Abstract
In recent years, incredible endeavors have been devoted to the design and self-assembly of discrete metal-organic cages (MOCs) with expanding intricacy and functionality. The controlled synthesis of metal-organic supramolecular cages with large branched chains remains an interesting and challenging work in supramolecular chemistry. Herein, a tetrahedral metal-organic supramolecular cage (ZnII4L4) containing 12 dendritic carbazole arms is unprecedentedly constructed through coordination-driven subcomponent self-assembly and characterized in different ways. Interestingly, tetrahedral supramolecular Cage-1 exhibited the potential for aggregation-induced emission (AIE) performance and stimulus-responsive luminescence features, and it achieved color-tunable photoluminescence due to the introduction of dendritic carbazole arms. Crucially, owing to the great photophysical properties of Cage-1 in solution, Cage-1 was enabled to act as a fluorescent ink for the vapor-responsive recording and wiping of information.

Abstract
meso-Free BIII 5,10-bis(p-dimethylaminophenyl)subporphyrins were synthesized. They display red-shifted absorption and fluorescence spectra, bathochromic behaviors in polar solvents, a high fluorescence quantum yield (ΦF =0.57), and a small HOMO-LUMO gap mainly due to destabilized HOMO as compared with meso-free BIII 5,10-diphenylsubporphyrin. This subporphyrin serves as a nice precursor of various meso-substituted BIII subporphyrins such as BIII meso-nitrosubporphyrin, BIII meso-aminosubporphyrin, and meso-meso' linked BIII azosubporphyrin dimer. Reactions of meso-free BIII subporphyrins with NBS or bis(2,4,6-trimethylpyridine)bromonium hexafluorophosphate gave meso-meso' linked subporphyrin dimers, often as a major product along with meso-bromosubporphyrins.

Abstract
Porphyrins are tetrapyrrolic aromatic macrocycles and ubiquitous in nature. They are excellent dyes with strong absorption in the visible region (400–700 nm) and they exhibit decent fluorescence in the red region (620–900 nm). Carbazole is a nitrogen-containing electron rich aromatic heterocycle which can be linked to porphyrins and other chromophores. This review provides an overview of the different synthetic strategies that have been employed to prepare carbazole-substituted porphyrins and carbazole-fused porphyrinoids and similar systems. It also shows that how the substitution of carbazole occurs on the porphyrin core can alter its optical and electronic features. Introduction of carbazole moieties in the porphyrin ring resulted in fused porphyrinoids with changed aromaticity and significantly altered electronic features of the molecules.

Abstract
A π-extended "earring" subporphyrin 3 was synthesized from β,β'-diiodosubporphyrin and diboryltripyrrane via a Suzuki-Miyaura coupling and following oxidation. Its Pd complex 3Pd was also synthesized and both of the compounds were fully characterized by 1H NMR, MS and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The 1H NMR spectra and single crystal structures revealed that aromatic ring current did not extend to the "ear" in both of the two compounds. Their UV-vis/NIR spectra were recorded and the absorption of both compounds is extended to the NIR region and that the absorption of 3Pd is further red-shifted and more intense.

Abstract
Boron(III) meso-lithiosubporphyrin was prepared by bromine-lithium exchange of B-tolyl BIII meso-bromosubporphyrin with n-butyllithium at -98 °C. The resulting subporphyrinyllithium was treated with various electrophiles such as benzophenone, N,N-dimethylformamide, CO2 , chlorotrimethylsilane, N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide, and dimesitylboryl fluoride to give the corresponding meso-functionalized BIII subporphyrins. The nucleophile was also used to construct BIII subporphyrin dimers such as bis(BIII subporphyrinyl)ketone, bis(BIII subporphyrinyl)carbinol, and disilane-bridged BIII subporphyrin dimer. The structural, optical, and electrochemical properties of these meso-functionalized BIII subporphyrins were examined by UV/Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, electrochemical studies, and DFT calculations.

Neural Network Modeling of AChE Inhibition by New Carbazole-Bearing Oxazolones. Interdiscip Sci 2017; 11:95-107. Abstract
Acetylcholine esterase (AChE) is one of the targeted enzymes in the therapy of important neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Many studies on carbazole- and oxazolone-based compounds have been conducted in the last decade due to the importance of these compounds. New carbazole-bearing oxazolones were synthesized from several carbazole aldehydes and p-nitrobenzoyl glycine as AChE inhibitors by the Erlenmeyer reaction in the present study. The inhibitory effects of three carbazole-bearing oxazolone derivatives on AChE were studied in vitro and the experimental results were modeled using artificial neural network (ANN). The developed ANN provided sufficient correlation between several dependent systems, including enzyme inhibition. The inhibition data for AChE were modeled by a two-layered ANN architecture. High correlation coefficients were observed between the experimental and predicted ANN results. Synthesized carbazole-bearing oxazolone derivatives inhibited AChE under in vitro conditions, and further research involving in vivo studies is recommended. An ANN may be a useful alternative modeling approach for enzyme inhibition.

Abstract
Subporphyrinato boron (subporphyrin) was elusive until the syntheses of tribenzosubporphine in 2006 and meso-aryl-substituted subporphyrin in 2007. These novel contracted analogues possess a 14π-electron conjugated system embedded in a bowl-shaped structure. They exhibit absorption and fluorescence in the UV/vis region and nonlinear optical properties due to their octupolar structures. The unique coordination geometry around the central boron atom in the structure of subporphyrin enabled investigation of rare boron species, such as borenium cations, boron hydrides, and boron peroxides. Along with the burgeoning development of the chemistry of subporphyrins, analogous triphyrin systems have also emerged. Their rich coordination chemistry as a result of their free-base structures, which are different from the boron-coordinating structure of subporphyrins, has been intensively investigated. On the basis of the unique structures and reactivities of subporphyrins and their related triphyrin analogues, supramolecular architectures and covalently linked multicomponent systems have also been actively pursued. This Review provides an overview of the development of subporphyrin and triphyrin chemistry in the past decade and future prospects in this field, which may inspire molecular design toward applications based on their unique properties.

Abstract
Effect of positioning of the cyanoacrylic acid anchoring group on ring periphery of phenothiazine dye on the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) is reported. Two types of dyes, one having substitution on the C-3 aromatic ring (Type 1) and another through the N-terminal (Type 2), have been synthesized for this purpose. Absorption and fluorescence studies have been performed to visualize the effect of substitution pattern on the spectral coverage and electrochemical studies to monitor the tuning of redox levels. B3LYP/6-31G* studies are performed to visualize the frontier orbital location and their significance in charge injection when surface modified on semiconducting TiO₂. New DSSCs have been built on nanocrystalline TiO₂ according to traditional two-electrode Grätzel solar cell setup with a reference cell based on N719 dye for comparison. The lifetime of the adsorbed phenothiazine dye is found to be quenched significantly upon immobilizing on TiO₂ suggesting charge injection from excited dye to semiconducting TiO₂. The performances of the cells are found to be prominent for solar cells made out of Type 1 dyes compared to Type 2 dyes. This trend has been rationalized on the basis of spectral, electrochemical, computational, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results.

Abstract
Effective peripheral fabrication methods of meso-aryl-substituted subporphyrins were explored for the first time. Hexabrominated subporphyrins 2 were prepared quantitatively from the bromination of subporphyrins 1 with bromine. Hexaphenylated subporphyrins 3 and hexaethynylated subporphyrins 4 and 5 were synthesized by Suzuki-Miyaura coupling and Stille coupling, respectively, in good yields. X-ray crystal structures of 2 b, 3 b, 4 b, and 5 a revealed preservation of the bowl-shaped bent structures with bowl depths similar to that of 1. Hexaethynylated subporphyrins exhibit large two-photon-absorption cross-sections due to effective delocalization of the conjugated network to the ethynyl substituents.

Abstract
Physicochemical characterization of boron(III) subporphyrazines (SubPzs)--lower subphthalocyanine (SubPc) homologues--has been carried out for the first time. The SubPz macrocycle can act both as an oxidizing and a reducing entity, giving rise to stable radical anion or radical cation species, respectively. SubPzs are luminescent and exhibit fluorescence quantum yields that are in the range known for SubPcs. The peripheral substitution plays a dramatic role with respect to the luminescence properties. Moreover, as with SubPcs, deactivation of the singlet excited state of the SubPzs by intersystem crossing affords long-lived triplet excited states, which are amenable to being used as singlet-oxygen generators. Subporphyrazines are also promising electro- and photoactive materials for molecular photovoltaics.
