Abstract
The diffusible signal factor family (DSF) of molecules play an important role in regulating intercellular communication, or quorum sensing, in several disease-causing bacteria. These messenger molecules, which are comprised of cis-unsaturated fatty acids, are involved in the regulation of biofilm formation, antibiotic tolerance, virulence and the control of bacterial resistance. We have previously demonstrated how olefinic N-acyl sulfonamide bioisosteric analogues of diffusible signal factor can reduce biofilm formation or enhance antibiotic sensitivity in a number of bacterial strains. This work describes the design and synthesis of a second generation of aromatic N-acyl sulfonamide bioisosteres. The impact of these compounds on biofilm production in Acinetobacter baumannii, Escherichia coli, Burkholderia multivorans, Burkholderia cepacia, Burkholderia cenocepacia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is evaluated, in addition to their effects on antibiotic tolerance. The ability of these molecules to increase survival rates on co-administration with colistin is also investigated using the Galleria infection model.

Abstract
AbstractMicrowave irradiated C–S cross-coupling reaction to synthesize 5-aryllthiobenzo-2,1,3-thiadiazole derivatives from a variety of benzene thiols with 5-bromo-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole, catalyzed by Cu(I) iodide and potassium carbonate as a cost-effective base in DMF, was conducted, affording excellent yields of the desired products. Microwave conditions assisted in the development of C–S cross-coupling reaction with higher yields.

Abstract
Glycodendrimers are an important class of synthetic macromolecules that can be used to mimic many structural and functional features of cell-surface glycoconjugates. Their carbohydrate moieties perform key important functions in bacterial and viral infections, often regulated by carbohydrate-protein interactions. Several studies have shown that the molecular structure, valency and spatial organisation of carbohydrate epitopes in glycoconjugates are key factors in the specificity and avidity of carbohydrate-protein interactions. Choosing the right glycodendrimers almost always helps to interfere with such interactions and blocks bacterial or viral adhesion and entry into host cells as an effective strategy to inhibit bacterial or viral infections. Herein, the state of the art in the design and synthesis of glycodendrimers employed for the development of anti-adhesion therapy against bacterial and viral infections is described.

Abstract
Synthesis of assumed natural (12R,13S)-enantiomers of pyriculariol (1) and dihydropyriculariol (2), phytotoxins isolated from rice blast disease fungus, Pyricularia oryzae, was achieved using Wittig reaction or microwave-assisted Stille coupling reaction as the key step. The synthesis revealed that the natural 1 and 2 are racemates. Foliar application test on a rice leaf indicated that both the salicylaldehyde core and side chain were necessary for phytotoxic activity. The fungus is found to produce optically active phytotoxins when incubated with rotary shaker, but racemic ones when cultured using an aerated jar fermenter.

Abstract
Combining palladium catalyzed reactions in one-pot reactions represents an efficient and
economical use of catalyst. The Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling has been proven to be a reaction
which can be combined with other palladium catalyzed reactions in the same pot. This mini-review
will highlight some of the latest examples where Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions have been
combined with other palladium catalyzed reactions in one-pot reaction. Predominantly, examples
with homogeneous reaction conditions will be discussed in addition to a few examples from the authors
where Pd/C have been used as a catalyst.

Abstract
Conventionally, the organic reactions are accomplished by conductive heating with an external
heat source like an oil bath. On the contrary, since its inception, the application of microwave
irradiation is growing as a suitable alternate heating method in organic synthesis. Microwave heating
considerably reduces the reaction time without promoting any side reactions. The fundamental synthetic
organic chemistry majorly deals with transition-metal-catalyzed C–C and C–heteroatom bond
formation reactions. It is one of the most important methods in contemporary chemistry resulting in a
tremendous increment in the applications of these reactions during the last few years. This field has
been acknowledged with a number of Nobel Prizes during the last decade (2001, 2005 and 2010). A
considerable effort has been done on the continuous development of new ligands and catalysts as
well as an increased understanding of the mechanisms for the improvement of the reaction condition.
This review focuses on some of the latest developments in the area of cross-coupling reactions aided
by microwave irradiation.

Abstract
We report a Rh-catalyzed method for the C-5 selective C-H iodination of naphthoquinones and show that complementary C-2 selective processes can be achieved under related conditions. C-C bond forming derivatizations of the C-5 iodinated products provide a gateway to previously inaccessible A-ring analogues. The present study encompasses the first catalytic directed ortho-functionalizations of simple (non-bias) naphthoquinones. The strategic considerations outlined here are likely to be applicable to C-H functionalizations of other weakly coordinating and/or redox sensitive substrates.

Abstract
New Rh(III)-catalyzed, one-pot N-annulation reactions of aryl and α,β-unsaturated ketones with alkynes in the presence of ammonium acetate have been developed. Under microwave irradiation conditions, the processes lead to rapid formation of the respective isoquinoline and pyridine derivatives with efficiencies that are strongly dependent on the steric nature of the aryl ring and enone substituents. By employing this protocol, a variety of isoquinoline and pyridine derivatives were prepared in high yields. In addition, a new one-pot approach to the synthesis of pyridines, involving four-component reactions of ketones, formaldehyde, NH(4)OAc, and alkynes, has been uncovered. This process takes place through a route involving initial aldol condensation of the ketone with formaldehyde to generate a branched α,β-unsaturated ketone that then undergoes Rh(III)-catalyzed N-annulation with NH(4)OAc and the alkyne

Abstract
A series of diaryl amines, ethers and thioethers were synthesized under microwave irradiation efficiently at presence of KF/Al2O3 in 83%-96% yields without any solvent. The salient characters of this method lie in short reaction time, high yields, general applicability to substrates and simple workup procedure. At the same time, their antifungal biological activities against six phytopathogen were evaluated. Most of the compounds (3b, 3c, 3g-o) are more potent than thiophannate-methyl against to Magnaporthe oryzae. This implies that diaryl amine or ether moiety may be helpful in finding a fungicide against Magnaporthe oryzae.

Abstract
Novel Process Windows make use of process conditions that are far from conventional practices. This involves the use of high temperatures, high pressures, high concentrations (solvent-free), new chemical transformations, explosive conditions, and process simplification and integration to boost synthetic chemistry on both the laboratory and production scale. Such harsh reaction conditions can be safely reached in microstructured reactors due to their excellent transport intensification properties. This Review discusses the different routes towards Novel Process Windows and provides several examples for each route grouped into different classes of chemical and process-design intensification.

Abstract
A number of novel benzimidazolium salts having aryl substituents such as N-phenyl, 4-chlorophenyl and various alkyl substituents were synthesized. Their microwave-assisted catalytic activities were evaluated in Heck-Mizoroki and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions using a catalytic system consisting of Pd(OAc)2/K2CO3 in DMF/H2O under mild reaction conditions with consistent high yields, except those of 2-bromopyridine.
