Abstract
Cervical cancer is one of the most common female malignancies. Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are the main causative agents of virtually all cervical carcinomas. Nevertheless, emerging evidence has demonstrated that a small proportion of cervical cancer patients are HPV negative. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified to play a crucial role in cervical cancer development. Here, this review describes the incidence and development of HPV-negative cervical cancer. Moreover, HPV-negative cervical cancers are more likely diagnosed at non-squamous type, older ages, more advanced stage and metastases, and associated with poorer prognosis as compared to HPV-positive cervical cancer. Furthermore, the significant role and functions of lncRNAs underlying HPV-negative cervical cancer is clarified.

Abstract
Laryngeal squamous cell cancer (LSCC) accounts for almost 25-30% of all head and neck squamous cell cancers and is clustered according to the affected districts, as this determines distinct tendency to recur and metastasize. A major role for numerous genetic alterations in driving the onset and progression of this neoplasm is emerging. However, major efforts are still required for the identification of molecular markers useful for both early diagnosis and prognostic definition of LSCC that is still characterized by significant morbidity and mortality. Non-coding RNAs appear the most promising as they circulate in all the biological fluids allowing liquid biopsy determination, as well as due to their quick and characteristic modulation useful for non-invasive detection and monitoring of cancer. Other critical aspects are related to recent progress in circulating tumor cells and DNA detection, in metastatic status and chemo-refractoriness prediction, and in the functional interaction of LSCC with chronic inflammation and innate immunity. We review all these aspects taking into account the progress of the technologies in the field of next generation sequencing.

Abstract
Rare cancers are identified as those with an annual incidence of fewer than 6 per 100,000 persons and includes both epithelial and stromal tumors from different anatomical areas. The advancement of analytical methods has produced an accurate molecular characterization of most human cancers, suggesting a “molecular classification” that has allowed the establishment of increasingly personalized therapeutic strategies. However, the limited availability of rare cancer samples has resulted in very few therapeutic options for these tumors, often leading to poor prognosis. Long non coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a class of non-coding RNAs mostly involved in tumor progression and drug response. In particular, the lncRNA HOX transcript antisense RNA (HOTAIR) represents an emergent diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarker in many human cancers. The aim of this review is to highlight the role of HOTAIR in rare cancers, proposing it as a new biomarker usable in the management of these tumors.

Abstract
Background: Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) are RNA molecules that are more than 200 nucleotides long and have the ability to modify the activity of genes. They can be found in both healthy and cancer tissues, as well as in plasma, saliva and other bodily fluids. They can also be used as biomarkers of early detection, prognosis and chemotherapy resistance in several cancer types. Treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients with locally advanced disease is still difficult, and choice of treatment should be based on more precise and available biomarkers, such as those obtained from a liquid biopsy. For improvement of treatment efficacy, identification and clinical implementation of new biomarkers are of the utmost importance. Methods: Plasma samples drawn before (p1) and three cycles post (p2) (TPF: docetaxel, cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil/PF: cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil) chemotherapy from 53 HNSCC patients (17 with locally advanced and 36 with metastatic disease) and 14 healthy volunteers were studied. Expression levels of 90 lncRNA expression were analyzed using the qRT-PCR method, and the obtained results were compared between proper groups. Statistical analyses were carried out using Jupyter Notebooks (5.7.2), Python (ver. 3.6) and GraphPad Prism 8. Results: The study demonstrated the differences between the expressions of several lncRNA in cancer patients' and healthy volunteers' plasma, as well as between locally advanced and metastatic patients' groups. A correlation between the response to systemic therapy and lncRNA expression levels was observed. Patients with a (high/low) expression of Alpha 250 and Emx2os showed statistically significant differences in progression free survival (PFS), as well as for overall survival (OS) depending on the level of Alpha 250, snaR, SNHG1. The univariate and multivariate Cox regression model showed Alpha 250 as the best prognostic factor for HNSCC patients. Conclusions: Liquid biopsies based on lncRNAs are promising diagnostic tools that can be used to differentiate between those with cancer and healthy individuals. Additionally, they can also serve as biomarkers for chemotherapy resistance. An identified, circulating lncRNA Alpha 250 seems to prove the best prognostic biomarker, associated with extended PFS and OS, and should be validated in a larger cohort in the future.

Abstract
Background Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is a common type of malignant tumors of larynx, and in this study, we aimed to evaluate the functional role of long non-coding RNA TRPM2-AS in LSCC. Methods The expression levels of TRPM2-AS in LSCC tissues and cell lines were detected by RT-qPCR analysis. In vitro functional assays, including MTT assay and transwell assay, were performed to explore the biological effects of TRPM2-AS on LSCC cells. The expression levels of EMT-relevant proteins were detected by Western blot analysis. The interaction between TRPM2-AS and miR-138 in LSCC, predicted by bioinformatic method, was verified by dual-luciferase reporter assay. Results We observed that TRPM2-AS was highly expressed in human LSCC tissues and cell lines. LSCC patients with advanced clinical stage exhibited higher intratumoral TRPM2-AS expression. The results of functional assays demonstrated that TRPM2-AS knockdown remarkably inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion of LSCC cells, whereas TRPM2-AS overexpression showed opposite effects. In mechanism, we further observed that TRPM2-AS directly bound to miR-138 and served as competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), thereby increasing SOX4 expression and promoting EMT in LSCC. The oncogenic effects of TRPM2-AS in LSCC cells were partly diminished by miR-138 restoration. Conclusion In short, our findings provided first evidence that TRPM2-AS is highly expressed and exerts its oncogenic role in LSCC partly by miR-138/SOX4 axis.

Abstract
Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is a common malignant tumor that occurs in the head and neck. People living in areas with serious air pollution and those who smoke and drink for a long time belong to high-risk groups. Although great progress has been made in chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and molecular targeted therapy in recent years, the prognosis of patients is still not good. The proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis of LSCC are controlled by many factors, which are the key factors influencing the prognosis of patients. Previous researches have demonstrated that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) can be used as oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes in the occurrence and development of cancer and regulate cancer through various ways including epigenetic regulation and post-transcriptional regulation. The characteristics and roles of lncRNAs in LSCC, however, are not clear. In this review, we will discuss the role and function of lncRNAs in the proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis of LSCC and analyze the relationship between lncRNAs and lncRNA-regulated signaling pathways in LSCC pathological process. The difficulties faced by the related research of LSCC are discussed. It provides reference ideas for the molecular mechanism research of LSCC targeting lncRNA and its signaling pathways, the development of clinical prevention and therapeutic drug and individualized treatment, thereby improving the quality of life of patients.

Abstract
Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is the most common type of laryngeal cancer with poor prognosis. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the biological role of long non-coding RNA OIP5-AS1 in LSCC. The results demonstrated that the expression levels of OIP5-AS1 were significantly increased in LSCC tissues and cell lines. High expression of OIP5-AS1 was closely correlated with lymph node metastasis and advanced clinical stage of LSCC patients. Moreover, in vitro assays showed that OIP5-AS1 overexpression promoted the proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of LSCC cells, whereas OIP5-AS1 knockdown exerted suppressive effects on LSCC cells. Furthermore, OIP5-AS1 was confirmed to serve as a competing endogenous RNA of miR-204-5p in LSCC cells, and restoration of miR-204-5p counteracted the OIP5-AS1-mediated oncogenic effects. In conclusion, our study provides promising evidence that lncRNA OIP5-AS1 functions as a tumor promoter in LSCC and may be used as a potential target for LSCC therapy.

Abstract
Head and neck carcinoma (HNC) is a heterogeneous disease encompassing a variety of tumors according to the origin. Laryngeal cancer (LC) represents one of the most frequent tumors in the head and neck region. Despite clinical studies and advance in treatment, satisfactory curative strategy has not yet been reached. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the identification of specific molecular signatures that better predict the clinical outcomes and markers that serve as suitable therapeutic targets. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) are reported as important regulators of gene expression and represent an innovative pharmacological application as molecular biomarkers in cancer. The purpose of this review is to discuss the most relevant epigenetic and histological prognostic biomarkers in HNC, with particular focus on LC. We summarize the emerging roles of long non-coding RNAs in HNC and LC development and their possible use in early diagnosis.
