Abstract
BACKGROUND Quality assessment of the prevalence and distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes could support additional targeted HPV vaccinations. However, the characteristics of HPV infection in Wuhan city are limited in the past decade. We aimed to assess the epidemiology of HPV infection among women and provide a reference for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer in this region. METHODS A retrospective study employing 105,679 women attending Wuhan Medical and Health Center for Women and Children for cervical cancer screening from January 2015 to December 2022 was conducted. The HPV genotype was detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and diversion hybridization. The overall incidence and age-specific type distribution of HPV infection and the relationship between HPV infection and cervical cytology were analyzed. RESULTS The overall HPV infection rate was 16.87% in Wuhan city, and the prevalence rates of high-risk, low-risk and mixed high- and low-risk HPV infections were 13.64%, 1.77% and 1.46%, respectively. The five most prevalent genotypes were HPV52 (4.24%), HPV58 (2.42%), HPV16 (2.34%), HPV53 (1.87%), and HPV39 (1.66%). The prevalence of HPV in women exhibited a "two-peak" pattern, the peaks of which were observed in the < 21 years group (37.4%) and the 61-65 years group (41.72%). Logistic regression analysis revealed no significant difference in the rate of high-grade lesion positivity between single and multiple high-risk HPV infections. Among patients with a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion+ (HSIL+) ThinPrep cytologic test (TCT) diagnosis, HPV58 was the most common type, followed by HPV52, HPV16, HPV39 and HPV53. CONCLUSIONS HPV types 52, 58, 16, 53, and 39 were the most common types in the general female population in Wuhan, and the prevalence of HPV infection varied among different age groups. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the epidemiological characteristics of HPV infection in women, which could support the development of targeted prevention and control strategies for cervical cancer in the region.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) type 81 has recently become one of the most common low-risk HPV types; however, literature focusing on it is limited. This study aimed to analyze the reasons for the increased detection rate of HPV81 and investigate its evolving pathogenicity. We analyzed the detection rates and trends of HPV81 in 229 061 exfoliated cervical cell samples collected from 2014 to 2023; collected samples of HPV81 single infections from two different time periods; and analyzed the allele frequencies, positive selection, viral load, persistent infection capacity, and pathogenicity of E6 and E7 genotypes. We found that the detection rate of HPV81 ranked first among the low-risk types in exfoliated cervical cells and exhibited a significantly increasing trend (p < 0.001). The frequency of the E6 prototype allele of HPV81 (n = 317) was significantly increased (p = 0.018) and demonstrated the strongest adaptive capacity. The viral load and persistent infection capacity of the E6 prototype were significantly higher than those of the mutants, thus serving as key drivers for increasing the detection rate of HPV81 and enhancing its pathogenicity. The viral load was positively correlated with persistent infection capacity and pathogenicity. Persistent infection was a crucial factor in the pathogenicity of HPV81. Successful adaptive evolution of HPV81 is accompanied by enhanced pathogenicity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide with a serious threat to women's health. Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) has been identified as the main cause of cervical cancer. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and genotype distribution of HR-HPV among women in Jingzhou, Hubei province, China, which is critical for the government to formulate the precision strategies of cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccine innoculation. METHODS To obtain the baseline data on the population-based prevalence and genotype distribution of HR-HPV infection among age groups and different years, a total of 51,720 women from 2018 to 2022 who went to Jingzhou Hospital Affiliated to Yangtze University for physical examination or gynacological treatment and received HR-HPV DNA genotyping were included in this retrospective study. The possible cervicovaginal infection of 15 high-risk HPV genotypes were analyzed by multiplex fluorescent real-time PCR, including HPV 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68 and 82. RESULTS The overall high-risk HPV prevalence among 51,720 women was 18.75% (9,698/51,720), and the HPV-positive rate of physical examination group (PEG) was 13.22% (541/4,091), which was lower than the HPV-positive rate of gynacological checkup group (GCG) 19.23% (9,157/47,629), with statistical difference (χ2 = 89.069, P < 0.01). The five most common prevalent genotypes were HPV52 (6.55%), HPV58 (3.41%), HPV16 (2.58%), HPV68 (1.82%) and HPV51 (1.57%). Single HPV infection was the predominant (14.36%), which compared to double (3.34%) and multiple (1.05%) infections. The HPV-positive rate was the highest in the > 60 age group (31.73%), and the lowest in the 31-40 age group (15.46%). CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of high-risk HPV infection among women in Jingzhou area was 18.75%. HPV52, HPV58 and HPV16 genotypes were the most common. The higher prevalence was in the > 60 and ≤ 20 age group, which showed a "U" shape curve, suggesting the necessity of screening among older women to decrease the mortality of cervical cancer.

Abstract
Persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the pivotal cause of cervical carcinogenesis. HPV types distribution varies greatly by region, and its long-term changes of prevalence remain to be fully characterized in China. Here, the largest population of 198,111 consecutive women who underwent routine cervical screening were investigated from 2015 to 2021 in Guangzhou, south China. The results showed that the overall HPV prevalence was 21.66% (42,911/198,111), and the annual prevalence increased significantly from 2015 to 2021 (p < 0.001). HPV52, 16, 58, CP8304, 51, 53, 39, and 68 were the most prevalent HPV types. The relative HPV-positive rate correlated positively with the progression of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (p < 0.001); HPV16 was the predominant carcinogenic type, followed by HPV52 and HPV18. HPV infections were significantly age-specific, and 26.51% (11,375/42,911) of cases were caused by multiple HPV types. In addition, HPV infections typically cleared over a median time of 16 (interquartile range 9-31) months, and the clearance of HPV16 was significantly faster than that of other types (p < 0.001). These findings may serve as a guide for local governments to evaluate HPV vaccination and cervical cancer prevention strategies in south China.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cervical cancer is associated with high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection in the world. We aimed to evaluate the status of HPV infection among women in Guangzhou, China. METHODS The study recruited 28,643 female patients from the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center for HPV genotype testing between 2019 and 2021. RESULTS 5668 patients were infected with HPV, resulting in an overall infection prevalence of 19.78%. The prevalence of HR-HPV was recorded at 13.94% (both single-infections and multi-infections), probably high-risk HPV/possibly carcinogenic (pHR-HPV) as 3.51%; and low-risk HPV (LR-HPV) as 3.56%. The most common HR-HPV genotype detected was HPV-52 with an infection rate of 4.99%, followed by HPV 58 (2.18%), 16 (2.12%), 51 (1.61%), 39 (1.19%), 56 (1.09%), 59 (0.85%), 18 (0.72%), 33 (0.61%), 31 (0.53%), 35 (0.20%), 45 (0.17%). Among LR-HPV genotypes, HPV-42 was the most common (1.08%), followed by 44 (0.77%), 81 (0.68%), 6 (0.48%), 43 (0.40%), 11 (0.23%) and 83 (0.07%). The prevalence of infection among different genotypes in pHR-HPV was: 68 (1.29%), 53 (1.21%), 66 (0.77%), 82 (0.25%), 73 (0.16%). Additionally, the prevalence of single genotype HPV infection exceeded that of multiple HPV infections except HPV-59. CONCLUSION Our findings imply that HPV genotype infections in Guangzhou demonstrate a regional and age-related distribution. Therefore, these data can provide a substantial foundation for further epidemiologic analysis to control and prevent HPV infections in Guangzhou.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To assess the prevalence and characteristics of human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes and its associated cervical lesions in Guangzhou, China, which may be useful for adjusting area-specific cervical cancer prevention and control strategies. METHODS A total of 58630 women were enrolled. Cervical specimens were collected for HPV DNA testing and/or cervical cytology. Patients with visible cervical lesions or abnormal screening results underwent further cervical biopsies. RESULT The overall HPV positive rate was 14.07%. The top five genotypes in Guangzhou were HPV 52 (3.06%), HPV 16 (2.28%), HPV 58 (1.80%), HPV 51 (1.32%), and HPV 39 (1.15%). The prevalence of overall HPV and vaccine-targeted HPV genotypes showed a significantly decreasing trend from 2016 to 2019 (P < 0.05). While, the infection rate of HPV 35 increased significantly during this time (P = 0.015). The age-specific prevalence of any HPV genotypes showed a bimodal curve, which peaked firstly among the < 20 y age group, and then peaked secondly among the > 59 y age group. Among HPV-positive women, the proportions of HSIL and cervical cancer increased significantly with age (P < 0.05). Among > 59 y age group, 9.35% HPV-positive cases were diagnosed as cervical cancer. HPV 16/18 was the most common cause of cervical cancer. While, the percentage of non-HPV 16/18 infection among cervical cancer patients increased over time, from 15.21% in 2015 to 26.32% in 2019 (P = 0.010). Besides that, the prevalence of non-HPV 16/18 genotypes among cervical cancer patients significantly increased with age, which peaked at the > 59 y age group (P = 0.014). CONCLUSION Although the prevalence of any HPV and vaccine-targeted HPV genotypes decreased significantly with time, it is still important to follow the HPV genotypes and their associated cancer risk after the large-scale popularization of HPV vaccine. And age should be taken into consideration in screening strategies and risk-based management of cervical cancer in Guangzhou.

Abstract
Background The characteristics and genotypic distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection differ in different countries and regions. The purpose of this study was to analyze the distribution of 27 HPV subtypes among adult women receiving health examinations in Jinan, China. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed to analyze HPV subtype infection among adult women who underwent cervical cancer screening from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020. Results Among 4746 women receiving HPV testing, 682 cases were positive, representing 14.4% of patients. In total, 514 cases were infected by a single HPV subtype (75.4%), 115 cases had dual infections (16.9%), and 53 cases had multiple infections (7.7%). Among the 682 cases of HPV infection, 503 cases (73.8%) were high-risk HPV infections. The most common high-risk HPV strains were HPV 52 (23.3%), HPV 16 (13.5%), and HPV 58 (12.7%). Low-risk HPV strains infected 179 cases (26.2%). The most common genotypes were HPV 61 (25.7%), HPV 81 (21.2%), and HPV 55 (15.6%). Conclusion The HPV infection rate in healthy women was high, and the mixed infection rate was as high as 24.6%, highlighting the need for increased attention to this virus.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is closely associated with cervical cancer, especially the persistent infection of high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) genotypes. Therefore, investigating the HPV prevalence, age-specific, genotype distribution and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic among large populations was essential for HPV screening and optimising vaccination. DESIGN This was a cross-sectional study. METHODS A total of 38 056 cervical epithelial cell specimens were collected in Weifang city from January 2018 to December 2022. The study was divided into seven age groups based on the age of the participants. HPV genotype testing was performed by using a commercial kit which is designed for the detection of 23 HPV genotypes. RESULT A total of 8998 women were infected with HPV, with an overall positive rate of 23.64% (8998/38 056). Single infection of HPV was dominant among different age groups, which accounted for 71.33% of total infections. The most prevalent genotype was HR-HPV 16 (4.33%), followed by 52, 58, 53 and 68. Low-risk HPV (LR-HPV) 42 exhibited the highest prevalence (2.19%) among six LR-HPV genotypes, representing a novel finding. There was a significant difference in the prevalence across different age groups (p<0.01), with the highest prevalence in the group under 25 years old. During the 3 year COVID-19 breakout period, the number of HPV samples received in 2020, 2021 and 2022 was reduced by 24.03%, 14.79% and 24.76%, respectively. In 2018-2022, the annual prevalence varied between 21.09% and 25.30%, with a decreasing trend, while the prevalence of HR-HPV 39, 56, 31 and LR-HPV 42 increased. CONCLUSION This study indicates a high-HPV infection rate and age-specific distribution characteristics of HPV genotype infections, as well as analyses of the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the HPV prevalence, which provides an epidemiological basis for the control and prevention of HPV infection in this region.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is a key initiative to promote the WHO global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer, and this study aimed to investigate the current status of HPV infection and genotypic characteristics of the population under the impact of age-expansion of nine-valent HPV vaccination policy in China. METHODS The clinical data of 60,685 subjects who were admitted in the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University and underwent HPV genotyping from January 2017 to October 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS The total number of positive HPV genotyping in the included population was 10,303, with a positivity rate of 17.0 %. The HPV positivity rate in the male and female populations increased slowly year by year, with a higher rate of positivity in men (32.7 %) than in women (16.7 %) (P < 0.001). HPV was predominantly single infection in all populations, with higher prevalence of high-risk HPV than low-risk HPV in females, while low-risk HPV infection was predominant in the male population. The age distribution of female subjects infected with HPV, with HPV52 as the most common type, showed a bimodal pattern. As for HPV infected male subjects, HPV6 was the main type, and there was no bimodal age distribution. The expanded age vaccination of the nine-valent HPV vaccine will result in 42.4 % efficiency of vaccine protection for 49.9 % of age-eligible women. If the nine-valent HPV vaccine were open to males in China, it would reduce HPV infections in men by 56.4 %. CONCLUSIONS The HPV positivity rate in the population remains high and tends to increase, and the age-expansion of the nine-valent HPV vaccine would contribute to reducing the threat of disease caused by HPV infection for age-eligible women. Moreover, attention should be paid to enhancing HPV screening in males and opening up vaccination when appropriate.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Understanding the prevalence and genotype distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) is critical for managing HPV vaccination programmes. Using a retrospective cross-sectional study, we examined long-term trends of HPV prevalence in Wenzhou, a coastal city in China. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Cervical exfoliated cells were collected from 127 938 women who underwent cervical cancer screening at the gynaecology outpatient clinic of Wenzhou People's Hospital from January 2011 to December 2020. HPV infections and genotypes were determined. The HPV genotypes were 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 6, 11, 42, 43, 44 and 81. From 2011 to 2014, we used PCR and inflow hybridisation for typing assays. In 2015-2020, HPV genotyping was performed on the collected specimens using PCR and flow fluorescence hybridisation. RESULTS The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 17.8%. Across age groups, the prevalence fluctuated between 15.9% and 37.4%, with two peaks in the ≤20 and ≥51 year groups. The annual prevalence varied between 12.2% and 28.8%, with a significant decrease in 2011-2018 and a flat trend in 2018-2020. The five most common HPV genotypes were HPV52 (3.6%), 16 (3.0%), 58 (2.5%), 53 (1.9%) and 81 (1.3%). The prevalence of high-risk gene subtypes HPV56, 59 and the low-risk subtype HPV44 increased. Single HPV infection was the most common. CONCLUSION The prevalence of HPV in Wenzhou is low to mid-range; however, the high-risk genetic subtypes HPV56 and 59 have increased in recent years. We need to promote HPV vaccination and increase education regarding safer sex.

Abstract
Background The evaluation of human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence rate dynamics and genotype distribution could support the adoption of more targeted prevention and treatment of cervical cancer. We aimed to assess the infection status and genotype characteristics of HPV among gynecological outpatients in Shanghai, China. Methods Clinical specimens were collected from patients attending gynaecological department of the Putuo Hospital, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, between January 2015 and December 2019. The cervicovaginal infection of 17 high-risk genotypes and 10 low-risk genotypes were analyzed by Luminex-based multiple assays. Results The overall HPV infection rate was 18.81% (95% CI 18.31–19.30%) in Shanghai city, with high-risk, low-risk and mixed high- and low-risk HPV prevalence being 11.65% (95% CI 11.24–12.06%), 4.19% (95% CI 3.94–4.44%) and 2.96% (95% CI 2.74–3.17%), respectively. The five most prevalent high-risk genotypes were HPV-52 (2.95%), HPV-16 (2.34%), HPV-58 (2.07%), HPV-53 (1.67%) and HPV-39 (1.36%). The most common low-risk genotype was HPV-61 (1.52%), followed by HPV-6 (1.29%) and HPV-81 (1.19%). Moreover, the coverage of HPV genotype by nonavalent vaccine was 10.42%, and non-vaccine-covered high-risk genotype was 7.70%. The 15–24 years age group demonstrated the highest HPV prevalence (43.14%), and significant differences were observed among different age groups (P < 0.001). Conclusions This study revealed the HPV prevalence and genotype distribution among women in Shanghai city, which could serve as guidance for HPV vaccination and preventative strategies against cervical cancer in this area. Abstract
BACKGROUND Data regarding human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence and genotype distribution are limited in Shannan City, Tibet Tibetan Autonomous Region, China. The purpose of this study is to provide reliable data for guiding women in Shannan City in cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccine innoculation. METHODS HPV testing was performed on women aged 16-109 years (mean age 44.03 ± 9.25 years) from Shannan City in 2019 and 2020, which was implemented technically by gynecological examination, vaginal discharge smear microscopy, cytology, and HPV detection. The overall prevalence, age-specific prevalence, and genotype distribution were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 48,126 women received HPV testing, of which 3929 were detected human papillomavirus. The HPV-positive rate was 8.16% (3929/48,126), and the highest prevalence was in the ≤ 25-year-old age group (12.68%). After the age of 25, the prevalence rate decreased rapidly, and then slowly increased from 7.49% in the 46-55 age group to 9.82% in the ≥ 66 age group, showing a "U-shaped" pattern. The positive prevalence of HPV 16 or 18-only was 1.43%, that of other HPV genotypes except HPV 16 or 18 was 6.39%, and mixed HPV infections including HPV 16 or 18 was 0.34%. CONCLUSIONS The HPV infection rate in Shannan city is rather low, and the age-specific prevalence of HPV infection presents a "U" curve, suggesting the importance of screening among younger women and the necessity of detection among older women.

Abstract
Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide in terms of both incidence and mortality. Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) has been identified as a cause of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and invasive cervical cancer. The distribution of human papillomavirus genotypes varies regionally. To acquire baseline data on the population-based prevalence and genotype distribution of HPV infection, we investigated the molecular epidemiology of HPV infection among women in Xi'an, China. The study was conducted from September 2018 to December 2020. A total of 14,655 women aged 30-65 years were screened. The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 13.5% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 13.0-14.1%), with 10.4% of participants being positive for a single HPV type and 3.1% being positive for multiple HPV types. The prevalence of high-risk HPV (HR-HPV), low-risk HPV (LR-HPV) and mixed HPV infection was 10.1% (95% CI: 9.6-10.5%), 2.2% (95% CI: 2.0-2.4%), and 1.3% (95% CI: 1.1-1.5%), respectively. The five most frequently detected HR-HPV types were types 52 (2.6%), 16 (1.9%), 53 (1.8%), 58 (1.4%), and 51 (0.9%). The most frequently detected LR-HPV type was HPV-42 (1.1%). The prevalence and HPV genotype distribution varied by region and age. Age-specific HPV prevalence peaked in the over 60 years age group (18.8%), and Beilin District had the highest HPV prevalence (18.1%). The results of this first population-based study provide a reference for HPV-based cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination programs in Xi'an.

Abstract
Most cervical cancers were closely associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infections. Therefore, understanding the ecological diversity of HPV prevalence and genotype distribution among various populations in different geographical regions was essential for optimizing HPV vaccination and maximizing the vaccination effects. A total of 12,053 patient data from the three-level hospitals in Hengyang city were retrospectively analyzed. In this study, the HPV prevalence was 10.16% overall, and the multiple-type infection rate was 1.83%. The HR-HPV infection rate was 8.52%. The top six HPV genotypes were as follows in descending order: HPV16, HPV58, HPV52, HPV39, HPV51, and HPV53. The HPV prevalence in the group above 60 years old was the most, and their HR-HPV infection rate corresponded to the most too. The infection rates of HPV and HR-HPV among outpatients were both lower than those among the hospitalized-patients, respectively. Among the hospitalized-patients, the infection rates of HPV and HR-HPV among the 50–60 years group were the most in both. The HR-HPV ratio-in-positive among HPV-positive patients with the histopathologic examination was higher than that among those patients without. Among 52 HPV-positive patients with cervical squamous carcinoma, the ratio-in-positive of HPV16 was 61.54%. This study demonstrated that the HPV prevalence varied with age among women from Hengyang district of Hunan province in China and showed that HPV16, HPV58, HPV52, HPV39, HPV51, and HPV53 genotypes were more popularly distributed in this region, which could provide the experimental basis for Chinese public health measures on cervical cancer prevention.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate and understand the prevalence of HPV genotypes and characteristics of female populations in specific areas and the relationship with cervical lesions, which can effectively guide cervical cancer screening and formulate HPV vaccine prevention strategies. Methods A total of 77,443 women who visited gynecological clinics and underwent health examinations in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine during 2016–2020 were enrolled in this survey. Cervical samples were collected for HPV DNA genotyping and cervical cytology testing. Cervical biopsies were performed for patients with visible cervical abnormality or abnormal cytological results. Results The results showed the 5-year overall positive rate was 22.3%, of which the gynecology clinic group had significantly more positive results compared with the health examination group (P < 0.001). The five most common genotypes in Zhejiang Province were HPV 52, 58, CP8304, 16, and 51 (23.9%, 12.7%, 11.7%, 11.7% and 9.3%). HPV infection was age-specific, with the highest infection rate in the age group ≤ 20 compared to other age groups (P < 0.001). HPV infection was also season-specific, with the highest infection rate in spring or winter. The main HPV infection mode was single infection (P = 0.004), but patients ≤ 20 years old were more likely to develop multiple infections (51.0%). HPV 16, 52 and 58 were the main genotypes that caused cytological abnormalities and HPV16, 18, 56, 58 and 66 were independent risk factors for cervical lesions (OR = 2.352, 1.567, 2.000, 1.694, 1.889; all P < 0.05). Further analysis found HPV 16 and 18 were the main genotypes that cause cervical cancer histological abnormalities and were independent risk factors for cervical cancer (OR = 5.647, P < 0.001; OR = 3.495, P = 0.036). Conclusion This article analyzed the prevalence of distribution characteristics of HPV infection and revealed the corelation between HPV infection and cytological and histological abnormalities. Comprehensive results of this survey will help Zhejiang Province to formulate public health policies and provide evidence for future selection of specific HPV vaccines.

Abstract
Alterations in glycosylation regulate fundamental molecular and cellular processes of cancer, serving as important biomarkers and therapeutic targets. However, the potential association and regulatory mechanisms of E6 oncoprotein on glycosylation of cervical cancer cells are still unclear. Here, we evaluated the glycomic changes via using Lectin microarray and determined the corresponding enzymes associated with endogenous high-risk HPV16 E6 expression in cervical cancer cells. α-2,6 sialic acids and the corresponding glycosyltransferase ST6GAL1 were significantly increased in E6 stable-expressing HPV- cervical cancer C33A cells. Clinical validation further showed that the expression of ST6GAL1 was significantly increased in patients infected with high-risk HPV subtypes and showed a positive association with E6 in cervical scraping samples. Interfering ST6GAL1 expression markedly blocked the oncogenic effects of E6 on colony formulation, proliferation, and metastasis. Importantly, ST6GAL1 overexpression enhanced tumorigenic activities of both E6-positive and E6-negative cells. Mechanistical investigations revealed that E6 depended on activating YAP1 to stimulate ST6GAL1 expression, as verteporfin (inhibitor of YAP1) significantly suppressed the E6-induced ST6GAL1 upregulation. E6/ST6GAL1 triggered the activation of downstream cGMP/PKG signaling pathway and ODQ (inhibitor of GMP production) simultaneously suppressed the oncogenic activities of both E6 and ST6GAL1 in cervical cancer cells. Taken together, these findings indicate that ST6GAL1 is an important mediator for oncogenic E6 protein to activate the downstream cGMP/PKG signaling pathway, which represents a novel molecular mechanism and potential therapeutic targets for cervical cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, especially with high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) genotypes, is closely associated with cervical cancer. This study aimed to observe the epidemiological characteristics of HPV infection among healthy women in Beijing, China. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cervical specimens were collected from 29,436 healthy women, who underwent health check-ups in Peking Union Medical College Hospital between 2016 and 2019. A commercial kit was used for the detection of 15 HR-HPV and two low-risk HPV (LR-HPV) genotypes. RESULTS A total of 3586 (12.18%) participants tested positive for HPV, 3467 of which were infected with HR-HPVs. The most prevalent genotypes were HPV52, 58, 16, 51, and 56. Moreover, while infection with a single genotype (9.84%) was more prevalent, HPV16+52 was the most common combination in those infected with multiple HPVs. Furthermore, the highest infection rate among age groups was in women aged <25 years (20.92%). No significant difference in the prevalence was observed from 2016 to 2019. However, HPV incidence in Beijing was significantly different than that in all other areas in China, except for Zhengzhou (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Our findings could serve as potential reference for better understanding of the epidemiological characteristics of HPV infection in Beijing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is involved in cervical cancer development, and hence understanding its prevalence and genotype distribution is important. However, there are few reports on the prevalence and genotype distribution of HPV in the city of Huzhou in China. METHODS In this retrospective cross-sectional study, 11,506 women who visited Huzhou Maternity & Child Health Care Hospital between January 2018 and October 2019 were enrolled. The results of HPV genotyping and cytology tests were analyzed. RESULTS The overall prevalence of HPV infection was 15.5%. The rate of high-risk (HR) HPV infection (13.5%) was higher than that of single low-risk (LR) HPV infection (2.0%) (p<0.05). The five most common HPV genotypes were HPV52 (3.3%), 16 (1.9%), 58 (1.7%), 53 (1.5%), and 81 (1.2%). The infection rate of HPV peaked in women aged 16-24 and women aged ≥55. The infection rate of HPV58 or HPV81 appeared as a single peak in women aged ≥55. The rates of HR-HPV and LR-HPV infection were higher in subjects with abnormal cytology (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS HPV infection is high in Huzhou, and HPV53 and HPV81 are the prevalent genotypes. HPV infection rate is associated with age and cytology. Regional HPV surveillance is essential to optimize current HPV prevention and vaccine development.

Abstract
Simple Summary Among the over 200 human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes identified, approximately 15 of them can cause human cancers. In this review, we provided an updated overview of the distribution of cancer-causing HPV genotypes by countries in East, Southeast and South Asia. Besides the standard screening and treatment methods employed in these regions, we unravel HPV detection methods and therapeutics utilised in certain countries that differ from other part of the world. The discrepancies may be partly due to health infrastructure, socio-economy and cultural diversities. Additionally, we highlighted the area lack of study, particularly on the oncogenicity of HPV genotype variants of high prevalence in these regions. Abstract Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection remains one of the most prominent cancer-causing DNA viruses, contributing to approximately 5% of human cancers. While association between HPV and cervical cancers has been well-established, evidence on the attribution of head and neck cancers (HNC) to HPV have been increasing in recent years. Among the cancer-causing HPV genotypes, HPV16 and 18 remain the major contributors to cancers across the globe. Nonetheless, the distribution of HPV genotypes in ethnically, geographically, and socio-economically diverse East, Southeast, and South Asia may differ from other parts of the world. In this review, we garner and provide updated insight into various aspects of HPV reported in recent years (2015–2021) in these regions. We included: (i) the HPV genotypes detected in normal cancers of the uterine cervix and head and neck, as well as the distribution of the HPV genotypes by geography and age groups; (ii) the laboratory diagnostic methods and treatment regimens used within these regions; and (iii) the oncogenic properties of HPV prototypes and their variants contributing to carcinogenesis. More importantly, we also unveil the similarities and discrepancies between these aspects, the areas lacking study, and the challenges faced in HPV studies.

Abstract
Cervical cancer (CC) is highly associated with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and genotype distribution of high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) infection varies greatly in different regions. Clinical specimens were collected from 46 365 patients at Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2017 to December 2020. HPV DNA genotype testing was performed using real-time PCR. The infection rates based on disease group were compared using the χ 2 test. The linear-by-linear association test and gamma value were used to assess the changes in HPV prevalence over calendar year and age group. A total of 10 514 women were infected with HR-HPV, with an overall positive rate of 22.7%. The most prevalent HR-HPV types were HPV52, 58, 16, 51, and 66, and HPV59 had a higher prevalence except for HPV16, 58, and 52 in the CC group. Single infection of HR-HPV was dominant among different disease groups. The infection rate of HR-HPV decreased first and then increased from below 20 years old to over 60 years old. There were significant differences in the HR-HPV infection rates among the age and disease groups. Our findings demonstrate that the genotype distribution of HR-HPV varied with age and diseases. The HR-HPV genotypes prevalence was found to be directly useful for local governments to promote HPV targeted vaccination in the study region.

Abstract
Objective To assess the prevalence and distribution of HPV genotypes among Chinese Han women, and to explore the risk of high-grade cervical lesions associated with individual hr-HPV genotypes. Methods Genotyping and histopathology data from the Chinese Multi-Center Screening Trial (CHIMUST) and its pilot screening trial, from 6 regions across mainland China, were re-analyzed. The data from physician- and self-collected samples from 10,867 Chinese Han women (ages 30–69) were used to determine the prevalence and distribution of hr-HPV and to explore the risk association between hr-HPV genotypes and precancerous lesions. Results 9.2% of the study population tested hr-HPV positive in physician-collected sample. The prevalence varied regionally from the lowest in Guangdong (6.3%) to the highest in Inner Mongolia (13.0%). The most prevalent genotypes found were HPV-52 (21.7%), HPV-16 (19.2%), HPV-58 (15.0%), HPV-39 (8.9%), and HPV-51 (8.2%). The overall odds ratios for CIN2+ and CIN3+ for the presence of HPV-16 was 58.6 (95% CI 39.2–87.5) and, 91.6 (95%CI 54.3–154.6), respectively and remained the highest odds ratio for CIN3+ in all 6 regions. Conclusion Geographical variation exists in the prevalence and distribution of hr-HPV in mainland China. HPV-16/52/58 were the most prevalent genotypes, and HPV-16 had the highest risk for high-grade cervical lesions. Trial registration CHIMUST, Registration number: ChiCTR-EOC-16008456. Abstract
ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the factors associated with adolescent compliance with the human papillomavirus vaccine. Method: this is a cross-sectional study, developed through a school survey, in Teresina, Piauí, Brazil, whose data collection occurred in 2018. A scale was used to assess decision-making, attitudes, feelings and knowledge about the human papillomavirus, in addition to a questionnaire to collect sociodemographic, economic and vaccination status data. The variables were submitted to the multivariate model of logistic regression to explain factors associated with vaccination adeforemen. Results: the study sample consisted of 624 adolescents, 15 years old, attending the first year of high school, of which 22.8% received the human papillomavirus vaccine. Being male decreases the chance of complying with the vaccine by 50% (aOR=0.05). Moreover, disagreeing or disagreeing with or disagreeing with parents to make the decision to vaccinate their children also reduced the chances of vaccination by 66% (aOR=0.34), respectively, as well as disagreeing with or disagreeing that men do not take human papillomavirus, minimized the chances of vaccination complying with vaccination by 66% (aOR=0.34), when compared to those who disagreed with this statement. Conclusion: low adolescent compliance with human papillomavirus vaccine was identified. Adolescents remain susceptible to diseases related to the human papillomavirus. Therefore, vaccination strategies need to be rethought, with the offer of vaccination in schools, mediated by educational campaigns.

Abstract
As persistent carcinogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a prominent driver of cervical cancer, it is essential to explore HPV persistence and its associated factors for cancer screening and prevention. A retrospective cohort study was performed in outpatient women between March 2010 and 2019 in Heilongjiang, northeast China. HPV genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction-membrane hybridization. An unconditional logistic regression model was used to analyze the association of factors with persistence. The overall prevalence of HPV at baseline was 27.1%, with a downward trend from 2010 to 2019 (P < .0001). The most commonly observed high- and low-risk HPVs were HPV16 (N = 1094, 5.9%) and HPV11 (N = 596, 3.2%), respectively. The probabilities of 6-month persistence were high for women infected with HPV16 (P = .0001), HPV58 (P = .018), and HPV53 (P = .014), as well as for women with multiple infections (P = .009), and those who were 51 to 60 years old (P = .004) or more than 60 years old (P = .007). The probabilities of 12-month persistence were high for women infected with HPV53 (P = .017) and 51- to 60-year-old women (P = .044). HPV16 is the dominant HPV type in Heilongjiang. An age in the range of 51 to 60 years and infection with HPV53 is associated with HPV infection persistence in the Heilongjiang population.

Abstract
Background HPV persistent infection is a strong carcinogenic factor that can induce cervical cancer. Investigation of HPV epidemiology and genotype distribution is of great meaning for the development of cervical cancer prevention and control strategies. Methods By using PCR-based hybridization gene chip assay, HPV genotype was detected from 14,185 women that came from HEC (Health Examination Center) or OGOC (Obstetrics and Gynecology Outpatient Clinics) between 2015 and 2017 in Sichuan area. The epidemiology and genotype distribution as well as the relationship between HPV infection and histology/cytology abnormalities were analyzed. Results The positivity rate of HPV was 23.84%. The HPV-positive rate of OGOC group (37.62%) was significantly higher than that of HEC group (15.29%), p < 0.05. The prevalence of HPV reached peak at age 41–50 (5.86%) in HEC group, but at age 21–30 (14.74%) in OGOC group. Of all the HPV positive women, single genotype infection was the most common form in both HEC and OGOC group (62.06% in total screening population, 74.36% in HEC group and 54.01% in OGOC group). Three most prevalent HPV types were HPV-52 (5.02%), 58 (3.61%), and 16 (3.24%) in total screening population. Of all the HPV positive women, the top three types were HPV-52 (20.93%), CP8304 (15.32%), and 58 (14.42%) in HEC group, while were HPV-52 (21.14%), 16 (16.34%), and 58 (15.61%) in OGOC group. HPV 52/16/58 accounted for 41.84% of cytology and 56.52% of histological abnormalities. Conclusions Women in Sichuan area were facing the great threat of HPV infection, especially the women aged between 21 ~ 30 or 41–50 years old. The priority HPV types were HPV 52, 58, and 16 in OGOC group, while were HPV 52, CP8304, and 58 in HEC group. HPV 52/16/58 accounted for the majority of cytology and histological abnormalities. Our analysis was found to be valuable for providing a scientific basis for the prevention and control strategies of cervical cancer in Sichuan area.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ovarian cancer (OC) is the seventh most common malignancy worldwide and the most lethal gynaecological malignancy. We aimed to explore global geographical patterns and temporal trends from 1973 to 2015 for 41 countries in OC incidence and especially to analyse the birth cohort effect to gain further insight into the underlying causal factors of OC and identify countries with increasing risk of OC. METHODS OC data were drawn from the Cancer Incidence in Five Continents databases and online databases published by governments. The joinpoint regression model was applied to detect changes in OC trends. The age-period-cohort model was applied to explore age and birth cohort effects. RESULTS The age-standardized rate of OC incidence ranged from 3.0 to 11.4 per 100,000 women worldwide in 2012. The highest age-standardized rate was observed in Central and Eastern Europe, with 11.4 per 100,000 women in 2012. For the most recent 10-year period, the increasing trends were mainly observed in Central and South America, Asia and Central and Eastern Europe. The largest significant increase was observed in Brazil, with an average annual percentage change of 4.4%. For recent birth cohorts, cohort-specific increases in risk were pronounced in Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, India, Japan, the Philippines and Thailand. CONCLUSIONS Disparities in the incidence and risk of OC persist worldwide. The increased risk of birth cohort in OC incidence was observed for most countries in Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Central and South America. The reason for the increasing OC risk for recent birth cohorts in these countries should be investigated with further epidemiology studies.

Abstract
Our study aimed to analyze genotype-specific, age-specific prevalence, and year-on-year trend of cervical human papillomavirus (HPV) detection among women in Guangdong, China 2008 to 2017. A total of 199 963 women attending the gynecological department and 11 999 women attending the medical examination center at Guangdong Women and Children Hospital were included. Prevalent HPV detection significantly differed between these two groups of women (20.16% vs 17.25%; P < .001). HPV genotypes of these two populations have a large overlap, with HPV52, 16, 58, CP8304, and 53 being the dominant subtypes among gynecological outpatients and HPV52, CP8304, 58, 53, and 16 among women receiving physical examinations. The distribution of prevalent HPV detection showed a bimodal pattern across age groups among these two populations. However, prevalent HPV detection among these two populations exhibited different trends from 2008 to 2017. Our study demonstrated that prevalent HPV detection among women in Guangdong is associated with age and different from that among women from other regions of China. Our study may provide valuable data to inform cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination programs for women in this province.

Abstract
Accumulating evidence indicates that persistent infection with high-risk oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes is the most important risk factor for cervical cancer, and that the distribution of HPV genotypes varies regionally. This study explored the prevalence and genotype distribution of HPV infection among Han, Yi, and Bai women in various regions of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. This cross-sectional study included 2779 women (20-76 years old) who were referred for 21-HPV genotype array diagnostic from five regions of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture between February 2013 and May 2016. Statistical methods used included a the χ2 test, Fisher's exact test, t test, and logistic regression. Overall HPV prevalence in the study population was 7.6%. HPV-52, HPV-58, HPV-18, HPV-81, and HPV-16 were the most prevalent genotypes in the study area, and notably, the prevalence of HPV-58 was significantly higher among women in Heqing County than that in other regions. Univariate analysis showed that husband's age, region, fertility status, and parity were potential factors associated with HPV infection. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that Heqing County was an independent risk factor for HPV infection among women in the Dali area, moreover, Yi women showed the highest risk for HPV infections. Overall, our finding emphasizing the urgent need for an HPV screening and prevention program in Heqing County and Yi women. We also suggest that HPV-related health education should be provided not only to women, but also to men, to reduce the risk of infection in women.

Abstract
The human papillomavirus (HPV) 58 is considered to be the second most predominant genotype in cervical cancer incidents in China. HPV type-restriction, non-targeted delivery, and the highcost of existing vaccines necessitate continuing research on the HPV vaccine. We aimed to explore the papillomaviral proteome in order to identify potential candidates for a chimeric vaccine against cervix papilloma using computational immunology and structural vaccinology approaches. Two overlapped epitope segments (23⁻36) and (29⁻42) from the N-terminal region of the HPV58 minor capsid protein L2 are selected as capable of inducing both cellular and humoral immunity. In total, 318 amino acid lengths of the vaccine construct SGD58 contain adjuvants (Flagellin and RS09), two Th epitopes, and linkers. SGD58 is a stable protein that is soluble, antigenic, and non-allergenic. Homology modeling and the structural refinement of the best models of SGD58 and TLR5 found 96.8% and 93.9% favored regions in Rampage, respectively. The docking results demonstrated a HADDOCK score of -62.5 ± 7.6, the binding energy (-30 kcal/mol) and 44 interacting amino acid residues between SGD58-TLR5 complex. The docked complex are stable in 100 ns of simulation. The coding sequences of SGD58 also show elevated gene expression in Escherichia coli with 1.0 codon adaptation index and 59.92% glycine-cysteine content. We conclude that SGD58 may prompt the creation a vaccine against cervix papilloma.

Abstract
Our study aimed to assess the prevalent, incident, and persistent infection, and clearance of HPV among 19 753 individual women attending the gynecological department at a major comprehensive hospital. HPV 16, 52, and 58 ranked top three types with the highest prevalence and incidence. The prevalence of high-risk (HR) HPV peaked among women aged 15 to 19 years, then sharply decreased with age, stabilized among women aged 25 to 44 years, and then surged again among women aged 45 years and older. HR HPV infection were more likely to be prevalent (15.9% vs 1.3%, P < 0.001), incident (17.3 vs 2.0 per 1000 person-months, P < 0.001), and persistent (33.0% vs 24.2%, P = 0.033), and less likely to clear (88 vs 115 per 1000 person-months, P = 0.040) compared to low-risk HPV types. The majority of women detected with HR HPV types did not retest within 12 months. Clinical guidelines on HPV DNA testing are needed and education and counseling about HPV infection and its implications for women detected with HPV at clinical settings are warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection can lead to the development of cervical cancer. This study assessed the genotype distribution of HPV of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and invasive cervical cancer (ICC) in Ganzhou population. METHODS A total of 935 females who got HPV testing from January 2016 to July 2018 in the maternal and child health hospital of Ganzhou were enrolled in the study, including 806 HSIL and 129 ICC. HPV detection and genotyping were tested by HPV Geno-Array test kit. RESULTS The overall HPV-positive rate was 74.0% in Ganzhou. Among the HSIL and ICC patients, the positive rates of HPV detection were 75.6% and 64.3%. Among the HSIL individuals, the most prevalent hr-HPV genotype was HPV 16. And the 4 common subtypes in decreasing order were HPV 52, 58, 33, and 18. Of the ICC patients, the most frequently hr-HPV subtype was HPV 16 followed by 18, 52, 58, and 59. Among the squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) patients, for hr-HPV genotypes, HPV 16, 18, 52, 58, and 59 were five most common subtypes. In patients with adenocarcinoma (ADC), the most common hr-HPV genotype was HPV 18, followed by HPV 16, 52, 56, 68, 73. And, we found U-shaped and S-shaped curves in the HPV distribution of different age groups. CONCLUSION The prevalence and distribution of HPV genotypes in Ganzhou differed from other regions of China and Western countries. These results can serve as valuable reference for HPV vaccination programs for Ganzhou women.

Abstract
Human papilloma virus (HPV) is one of the most prevalent viral sexually transmitted diseases. The ability of HPV to induce malignancy in the anogenital tract and stomato-pharyngeal cavity is well documented. Moreover, HPV infection may also affect reproductive health and fertility. Although, the impact of HPV on female fertility has not been thoroughly studied it has been found also to have an impact on semen parameters. Relative information can be obtained from studies investigating the relationship between HPV and pregnancy success. Furthermore, there is an ongoing debate whether HPV alters the efficacy of assisted reproductive technologies. An association between HPV and assisted reproductive technologies (ART) programs has been reported. Nevertheless, due to conflicting data and the small number of existing studies further research is required. It remains to be clarified whether HPV detection and genotyping could be included in the diagnostic procedures in couples undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF)/intrauterine insemination (IUI) treatments. Vaccination of both genders against HPV can reduce the prevalence of HPV infection and eliminate its implications on human fertility. The aim of the present mini-review is to reiterate the association between HPV and human fertility through a systematic literature review.

Abstract
Background Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are strongly associated with the development of cervical carcinoma, and the distribution of HPV genotypes varies regionally. Methods To investigate the distribution characteristics of different genotypes of HPV infection in women in Wuhan, China, a total of 13 775 patients were enrolled over 2 years. Results Of these, 2436 patients were infected with HPVs, and the total infection rate was 17.68%. The infection rate of high‐risk HPV (HR‐HPV) was significantly higher (13.96%) than that of single low‐risk HPV (LR‐HPV; 3.72%). Among the HR‐HPV infections, the most common genotype was HPV 52 with an infection rate of 4.23%, followed by HPVs 16, 58, 39, and 51. The most common LR‐HPV genotype was HPV 81, followed by HPVs 6, 11, and 44. Patients under the age of 25 years were found to have the highest HPV infection rate (P < .05). After the age range of 51‐55 years, a downward trend in total HPVs and HR‐HPVs was observed. The HPV infection rate for a single genotype was higher than that for multiple HPVs (P < .01), and the detection rates in summer and winter were significantly higher than those in spring and autumn. Conclusions The results demonstrate that the distribution characteristics of various HPV genotype infections are associated with region and age and may be related to season. These data could be the basis for further epidemiological analysis into the control and prevention of HPV infection in this region.
