Abstract
This brief report presents the findings of an epidemiological investigation into a large-scale outbreak of norovirus gastroenteritis that occurred in a hotel in Algarve, Portugal, in August 2022. A total of 244 cases were reported, primarily affecting Portuguese families, with the parents aged 40-50 years and the children aged 0-19 years. Reported symptoms included vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhoea. Norovirus genotype GI.3 [P3] was detected in stool samples from eight probable cases, while food samples tested negative for norovirus and common pathogenic bacteria. The investigation data collected suggest that the source of the outbreak was likely in the hotel's common areas, with subsequent person-to-person transmission in other areas. The final report emphasizes the importance of improving outbreak prevention and control measures, including the development of a foodborne outbreak investigation protocol, the establishment of an outbreak response team, and the enhancement of regional laboratory capacity.

Abstract
Norovirus infections are a leading cause of acute gastroenteritis outbreaks worldwide, with genotypes GII.2 and GII.4 being the most prevalent. The aim of this study was to compare the characteristics of GII.2 and GII.4 norovirus outbreaks reported in Catalonia in closed or semi-closed institutions in 2017 and 2018. The epidemiological and clinical characteristics of GII.2 and GII.4 outbreaks were compared using the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test for categorical variables and the Mann-Whitney U test for continuous variables. Odds ratios and their 95% confidence intervals were estimated. 61 outbreaks were reported: GII.4 was the causative agent in 12 outbreaks (30%) and GII.2 in 9 outbreaks (22.5%). GII.2 outbreaks were detected more frequently in schools or summer camps (66.7%) and GII.4 outbreaks in nursing homes (91.7%) (p = 0.01). Ninety-three people were affected in GII.2 outbreaks and 94 in GII.4 outbreaks. The median age was 15 years (range: 1-95 years) in GII.2 outbreaks and 86 years (range: 0-100 years) in GII.4 outbreaks (p < 0.001). Nausea, abdominal pain, and headache were observed more frequently in persons affected by GII.2 outbreaks (p < 0.05). Symptomatic cases presented a higher viral load suggestive of greater transmission capacity, although asymptomatic patients presented relevant loads indicative of transmission capacity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Norovirus is a leading cause of viral gastroenteritis outbreaks worldwide. Histo-blood group antigens (HBGAs) are important host attachment factors in susceptibility to norovirus. In this study, the association of FUT2 gene, which participates in the biosynthesis of HBGAs, with norovirus infection has been investigated. METHODS All relevant studies on the associations of FUT2 gene with norovirus were retrieved from PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to analyze the extracted data. I2 statistic, sensitivity analysis and publication bias analysis were used to confirm the findings. Subgroup analyses were performed for races, genotypes, development degree of the countries, publication years, age and setting when heterogeneity was recorded. RESULTS Twenty studies including 4066 participants were included for the meta-analysis. This analysis showed that there is a significant association between FUT2 gene and norovirus infection (OR = 3.02, 95%CI = 2.00-4.55, P < 0.001). Additionally, the ORs of norovirus infection among Chinese (OR = 4.49, 95%CI = 2.37-8.50, P < 0.001) were higher than those among Caucasian (OR = 3.23, 95%CI = 2.20-4.74, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The meta-analysis suggested that FUT2 gene is associated with susceptibility to norovirus infection.

Abstract
Innate resistance to viral infections can be attributed to mutations in genes involved in the immune response, or to the receptor/ligand. A remarkable example of the latter is the recently described Mendelian trait resistance to clinically important and globally predominating genotypes of rotavirus, the most common agent of severe dehydrating gastroenteritis in children worldwide. This resistance appears to be rotavirus genotype-dependent and is mainly mediated by histo-blood group antigens (HBGAs), which function as a receptor or attachment factors on gut epithelial surfaces. HBGA synthesis is mediated by fucosyltransferases and glycosyltransferases under the genetic control of the FUT2 (secretor), FUT3 (Lewis), and ABO (H) genes on chromosome 19. Significant genotypic and phenotypic diversity of HBGA expression exists between different human populations. This genetic diversity has an effect on genotype-specific susceptibility, molecular epidemiology, and vaccine take. Here, we will discuss studies on genetic susceptibility to rotavirus infection and place them in the context of population susceptibility, rotavirus epidemiology, vaccine take, and public health impact.

Abstract
A number of molecular epidemiological studies reported the detection of enteric viruses in asymptomatic children. The role of these viruses in an asymptomatic infection remains unclear. This study investigated the enteric viruses in the stool samples collected from children without diarrhea. Stool samples were collected during June to October 2016, from 227 children who lived in Matlab, Bangladesh. Seventeen enteric viruses, including rotavirus A, B, and C (RVA, RVB, and RVC), norovirus GI (NoV GI), norovirus GII (NoV GII), sapovirus (SaV), adenovirus (AdV), human astrovirus (HAstV), Aichivirus (AiV), human parechovirus (HPeV), enterovirus (EV), human bocavirus (HBoV), Saffold virus (SAFV), human cosavirus (HCoSV), bufavirus (BufV), salivirus (SalV), and rosavirus (RoV), were investigated by RT-PCR method. One hundred and eighty-two (80.2%; 182/227) samples were positive for some of these viruses, and 19.8% (45/227) were negative. Among the positive samples, 46.7% (85/182) were a single infection, and 53.3% (97/182) were coinfection with multiple viruses. The HCoSV was the most prevalent virus (41.4%), followed by EV (32.2%), NoV GII (25.6%), HPeV (8.8%), RVA (6.2%), AdV (5.7%), AiV (5.3%), SAFV (4.4%), and SaV (2.6%). Each of NoV GI, HAstV, HBoV, and BufV was detected at 0.4%. However, RVB, RVC, SalV, and RoV were not detected in this study. Phylogenetic analysis showed that diverse HCoSV species and genotypes were circulating in Bangladesh, and four strains of species A are proposed to be new genotypes. The data indicated that non-diarrheal Bangladeshi children were asymptomatically infected with wide varieties of enteric viruses.
