Abstract
Neonicotinoid insecticides (NEOs) dominate the global pesticide market because of their low cost and effectiveness. However, epidemiological studies regarding the potential adverse health effects of exposure to NEOs before birth and in early childhood are limited. Therefore, this study investigated the associations between NEO exposure before birth and during early childhood and neurodevelopment. A total of 273 mother-child pairs were enrolled in this study. Mothers provided urine samples in the third trimester and breast milk during the first and third months of lactation. Their children provided urine samples and were evaluated for neurodevelopment by using the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Third Edition at 2-3 years (N = 96) and the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) at 4-6 years (N = 63). The sum of the concentrations of seven NEOs (ΣNEOs) and the relative potency factor of NEOs, based on comparison with imidacloprid (IMIRPF), were used to assess total exposure to NEOs. Multivariate linear regression analyses were conducted to assess the associations between prenatal and childhood exposure to NEOs and neurodevelopment. The results of the analysis revealed that clothianidin (CLO) and thiamethoxam were the most common NEOs to which children in the Taipei metropolitan area were exposed and that exposure concentrations were high in the Taipei metropolitan area. Imidacloprid was the most frequently detected NEO during the postnatal period. Additionally, exposure to NEOs through breast milk was low. Exposure to CLO, ΣNEOs, and IMIRPF in boys aged 4-6 years was negatively correlated with WPPSI-IV Fluid Reasoning Index. The results of this study indicate that exposure during the third trimester to NEOs does not affect neurodevelopment but that childhood exposure to NEOs may, especially for boys. Further studies with larger sample sizes are required to confirm the sex-specific associations between NEO exposure and neurodevelopment.

Abstract
Tea is the second largest nonalcoholic beverage in the world due to its characteristic flavor and well-known functional properties in vitro and in vivo. Global tea production reaches 6.397 million tons in 2022 and continues to rise. Fresh tea leaves are mainly harvested in spring, whereas thousands of tons are discarded in summer and autumn. Herein, pruned tea biomass refers to abandon-plucked leaves being pruned in the non-plucking period, especially in summer and autumn. At present, no relevant concluding remarks have been made on this undervalued biomass. This review summarizes the seasonal differences of intrinsic metabolites and pays special attention to the most critical bioactive and flavor compounds, including polyphenols, theanine, and caffeine. Additionally, meaningful and profound methods to transform abandon-plucked fresh tea leaves into high-value products are reviewed. In summer and autumn, tea plants accumulate much more phenols than in spring, especially epigallocatechin gallate (galloyl catechin), anthocyanins (catechin derivatives), and proanthocyanidins (polymerized catechins). Vigorous carbon metabolism induced by high light intensity and temperature in summer and autumn also accumulates carbohydrates, such as soluble sugars and cellulose. The characteristics of abandon-plucked tea leaves make them not ideal raw materials for tea, but suitable for novel tea products like beverages and food ingredients using traditional or hybrid technologies such as enzymatic transformation, microbial fermentation, formula screening, and extraction, with the abundant polyphenols in summer and autumn tea serving as prominent flavor and bioactive contributors.

Abstract
Neonicotinoid pesticides are utilized against an extensive range of insects. A growing body of evidence supports that these neuro-active insecticides are classified as toxicants in invertebrates. However, there is limited published data regarding their toxicity in vertebrates and mammals. the current systematic review is focused on the up-to-date knowledge available for several neonicotinoid pesticides and their non-acute toxicity on rodents and human physiology. Oral lethal dose 50 (LD50) of seven neonicotinoids (i.e. imidacloprid, acetamiprid, clothianidin, dinotefuran, thiamethoxam, thiacloprid, and nitenpyram) was initially identified. Subsequently, a screening of the literature was conducted to collect information about non-acute exposure to these insecticides. 99 studies were included and assessed for their risk of bias and level of evidence according to the Office of Health and Translation (OHAT) framework. All the 99 included papers indicate evidence of reproductive toxicity, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, and oxidative stress induction with a high level of evidence in the health effect of rodents and a moderate level of evidence for human health. The most studied type of these insecticides among 99 papers was imidacloprid (55 papers), followed by acetamiprid (22 papers), clothianidin (21 papers), and thiacloprid (11 papers). While 10 of 99 papers assessed the relationship between clothianidin, thiamethoxam, dinotefuran, and nitenpyram, showing evidence of liver injury, dysfunctions of oxidative stress markers in the reproductive system, and intestinal toxicity. This systematic review provides a comprehensive overview of the potential risks caused by neonicotinoid insecticides to humans and rodents with salient health effects. However, further research is needed to better emphasize and understand the patho-physiological mechanisms of these insecticides, taking into account various factors that can influence their toxicity.

Abstract
The ingestion of contaminated tea involves the risk of human exposure to residues of neonicotinoids (NEOs). Nevertheless, there is little empirical research about this topic; to bridge the current knowledge gap, we collected 220 samples of various tea products from four geographical areas in China, including unfermented green tea, semi-fermented white tea and oolong tea, completely fermented black tea, and post-fermented dark tea. A total of six NEOs were detected from the tea leaves and infusions, namely, dinotefuran (DIN), thiamethoxam (THM), clothianidin (CLO), imidacloprid (IMI), acetamiprid (ACE), and thiacloprid (THI). The detection frequencies (DFs) and concentrations of all target NEOs were relatively high across the investigated tea samples, and the DIN, IMI and ACE residues measured in some samples exceeded the maximum residue level (MRL) standards for the European Union. Samples representing the Jiangnan area exhibited greater levels of total target NEOs (∑6NEOs) than samples representing the Jiangbei area (p < 0.001). Moreover, dark tea samples were found to have far higher levels of NEO residues than green (p < 0.001), white (p < 0.05), or oolong (p < 0.001) samples. The health risks associated with exposure to NEO residues via tea were small for both children and adults in terms of acute, chronic, and cumulative dietary exposure risk assessments. The transfer rates (TRs) of NEOs observed in white, black, and dark tea infusions gradually decreased after the third brewing time. As such, it is recommended to only consume tea that has been brewed at least three times. The presented results not only describe the extent of NEO contamination in Chinese tea leaves and infusions, but also provide tea drinking guidelines for consumers.

Abstract
Due to its rich health benefits and unique cultural charm, tea drinking is increasingly popular with the public in modern society. The safety of tea is the top priority that affects the development of tea industry and the health of consumers. During the process of tea growth, pesticides are used to prevent the invasion of pests and diseases with maintaining high quality and stable yield. Because hot water brewing is the traditional way of tea consumption, water is the main carrier for pesticide residues in tea into human body accompanied by potential risks. In this review, pesticides used in tea gardens are divided into two categories according to their solubility, among which water-soluble pesticides pose a greater risk. We summarized the methods of the sample pretreatment and detection of pesticide residues and expounded the migration patterns and influencing factors of tea throughout the process of growth, processing, storage, and consumption. Moreover, the toxicity and safety of pesticide residues and diseases caused by human intake were analyzed. The risk assessment and traceability of pesticide residues in tea were carried out, and potential eco-friendly improvement strategies were proposed. The review is expected to provide a valuable reference for reducing risks of pesticide residues in tea and ensuring the safety of tea consumption.

Abstract
Neonicotinoids (NEOs) are a class of broad-spectrum insecticides dominant in the global market. They were distributed extensively in the environment and occurred frequently in humans. Potential health effects of NEOs, such as neurological toxicity and diabetes to non-targeted mammals, have raised concerns. This review summarizes analytical methods of NEOs in human samples, their internal exposure levels and composition profiles in urine, blood, hair, breast milk, saliva and tooth samples with global comparisons, and daily NEOs exposure dose and relative health risks.Urinary NEOs levels in Asian populations were substantially higher than those in the U.S. and Europe, which may be due to different dietary patterns and insecticide applications across regions. N-desmethyl acetamiprid, 5-hydroxy-imidacloprid and olefin-imidacloprid were dominant among detected NEOs. NEO metabolites exhibited higher detection frequencies and levels than their parent compounds in humans, while investigations on NEO metabolites remain much limited. Current exposure assessments mainly focused on short-term urine analysis, while biomaterials for long-term monitoring, such as hair, nail and other alternatives, should also be considered. Large-scale epidemiological studies are critically needed to elucidate potential health outcomes associated with NEOs exposure.
