Abstract
OBJECTIVES Neuroimaging studies have advanced our understanding of the intricate central nervous system control network governing lower urinary tract (LUT) function, shedding light on mechanisms for urine storage and voiding. However, a lack of consensus in methodological approaches hinders the comparability of results among research groups and limits the translation of this knowledge to clinical applications, emphasizing the need for standardized methodologies and clinical utilization guidelines. METHODS This paper reports the discussions of a workshop at the 2023 meeting of the International Consultation on Incontinence Research Society, which reviewed uncertainties and research priorities to progress the field of neuroimaging in LUT control and dysfunction. RESULTS Neuroimaging holds great potential for improving our understanding of LUT control and pathophysiological conditions. To date, functional neuroimaging techniques have not yet achieved sufficient strength to make a direct clinical impact. Potential approaches that can improve the clinical utilization of neuroimaging were discussed and research questions proposed. CONCLUSIONS Neuroimaging offers a valuable tool for investigating LUT control, but it's essential to acknowledge the potential for oversimplification when interpreting brain activity due to the complex neural processing and filtering of sensory information. Moreover, technical limitations pose challenges in assessing key brain stem and spinal cord centers, particularly in cases of neurological dysfunction, highlighting the need for more reliable imaging of these centers to advance our understanding of LUT function and dysfunction.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The literature shows that nocturnal enuresis is not an isolated phenomenon of urinary loss during sleep, but encompasses a set of systemic clinical manifestations that significantly influence children's quality of life and development. However, the understanding of the clinical and physiological relationship of these systemic manifestations remains a clinical challenge. The recognition of these manifestations and their subsequent categorisation, may provide better insights into integrated clinical manifestations, facilitating the understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms, and promote increased assertiveness in the assessment and the selection of appropriate therapies. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to develop a phenotyping model for children with nocturnal enuresis based on evidence. METHODS This study presents a clinical phenotyping model for children with nocturnal enuresis based on an analytical and methodological review of the literature, about nocturnal enuresis and its associated clinical manifestations. There was a bibliometric analysis carried out to better analyse outcomes. After reading and analysing the literature, the clinical manifestations were categorised into domains and submitted to the validation of an expert committee with extensive experience in their specific area of expertise. A visual representation of the categorised model was developed to make the phenotyping concept easily understandable to all professionals. RESULTS The clinical manifestations related to nocturnal enuresis have been categorised according to frequency and relation found in the literature and validation by an expert committee and the development of the phenotyping model for children with nocturnal enuresis was completed. CONCLUSION The present study developed an evidence-based phenotyping model for children with nocturnal enuresis.

Abstract
This article reports on the epidemiology, prevalence, and physiopathology of sleep-related urinary dysfunction, a new syndromic category proposed by the recently revised ICSD-3-TR classification. Sleep enuresis, whether primary or secondary, monosymptomatic or plurisymptomatic, will be reviewed in terms of risk factors, comorbidity, and diagnostic and therapeutic indications. A definition of nocturia and its impact on patients' health, quality of life, and mortality will follow. Finally, the impact of urge incontinence on various medical and neurologic disorders will be discussed. Special emphasis will be placed on the possible association of this parasomnia with several sleep disorders and poor, fragmented sleep.

Abstract
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is rather common, presenting with prevalent early problems in social communication and accompanied by repetitive behavior. As vasopressin was implicated not only in salt-water homeostasis and stress-axis regulation, but also in social behavior, its role in the development of ASD might be suggested. In this review, we summarized a wide range of problems associated with ASD to which vasopressin might contribute, from social skills to communication, motor function problems, autonomous nervous system alterations as well as sleep disturbances, and altered sensory information processing. Beside functional connections between vasopressin and ASD, we draw attention to the anatomical background, highlighting several brain areas, including the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus, medial preoptic area, lateral septum, bed nucleus of stria terminalis, amygdala, hippocampus, olfactory bulb and even the cerebellum, either producing vasopressin or containing vasopressinergic receptors (presumably V1a). Sex differences in the vasopressinergic system might underline the male prevalence of ASD. Moreover, vasopressin might contribute to the effectiveness of available off-label therapies as well as serve as a possible target for intervention. In this sense, vasopressin, but paradoxically also V1a receptor antagonist, were found to be effective in some clinical trials. We concluded that although vasopressin might be an effective candidate for ASD treatment, we might assume that only a subgroup (e.g., with stress-axis disturbances), a certain sex (most probably males) and a certain brain area (targeting by means of virus vectors) would benefit from this therapy.

Abstract
Functional (Nonorganic) Enuresis and Daytime Urinary Incontinence in Children and Adolescents: Clinical Guideline for Assessment and Treatment Abstract: Objective: Enuresis and daytime urinary incontinence are common disorders in children and adolescents and are associated with incapacitation and a high rate of comorbid psychological disorders. This interdisciplinary guideline summarizes the current state of knowledge regarding somatic and psychiatric assessment and treatment. We formulate consensus-based, practical recommendations. Methods: The members of this guideline commission consisted of 18 professional associations. The guideline results from current literature searches, several online surveys, and consensus conferences based on standard procedures. Results: According to the International Children's Continence Society (ICCS), there are four different subtypes of nocturnal enuresis and nine subtypes of daytime urinary incontinence. Organic factors first have to be excluded. Clinical and noninvasive assessment is sufficient in most cases. Standard urotherapy is the mainstay of treatment. If indicated, one can add specific urotherapy and pharmacotherapy. Medication can be useful, especially in enuresis and urge incontinence. Psychological and somatic comorbid disorders must also be addressed. Conclusions: The recommendations of this guideline were passed with a high consensus. Interdisciplinary cooperation is especially important, as somatic factors and comorbid psychological disorders and symptoms need to be considered. More research is required especially regarding functional (nonorganic) daytime urinary incontinence.

Abstract
Neuroimaging has revolutionized our understanding of brain function and has become an essential tool for researchers studying neurological disorders. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) are two widely used neuroimaging techniques to review changes in brain activity. fMRI is a noninvasive technique that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed brain images. An EEG is a noninvasive technique that records the brain's electrical activity through electrodes placed on the scalp. This review overviews recent developments in noninvasive functional neuroimaging methods, including fMRI and EEG. Recent advances in fMRI technology, its application to studying brain function, and the impact of neuroimaging techniques on neuroscience research are discussed. Advances in EEG technology and its applications to analyzing brain function and neural oscillations are also highlighted. In addition, advanced courses in neuroimaging, such as diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and transcranial electrical stimulation (TES), are described, along with their role in studying brain connectivity, white matter tracts, and potential treatments for schizophrenia and chronic pain. Application. The review concludes by examining neuroimaging studies of neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), and Parkinson's disease (PD). We also described the role of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in ASD, ADHD, AD, and PD. Neuroimaging techniques have significantly advanced our understanding of brain function and provided essential insights into neurological disorders. However, further research into noninvasive treatments such as EEG, MRI, and TES is necessary to continue to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for neurological disorders.

Abstract
PURPOSE Sparse published reports exist nowadays on vibegron and pediatric overactive bladder, so its usefulness of this agent remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to clarify the effectiveness of vibegron for pediatric cases of daytime urinary incontinence (DUI), including refractory cases. METHODS Participants comprised 57 patients treated with vibegron for DUI from March 2019 to April 2022. To investigate treatment outcomes and risk factors for pediatric patients with refractory DUI, the following factors were evaluated: age at initiatial administration; frequency of DUI; duration of vibegron treatment; presence of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs); presence of constipation; and anticholinergic medications before and after initiation of treatment. RESULTS Patients included 38 boys and 19 girls with a median age at initial administration of 111 months (range: 64-202 months) and a median administration term of 6 months (range: 1-33 months). With treatment for 6 months, the response rate (complete response + partial response) was 68.3%. A total of 24 cases with NDD showed a 72.0% response rate at 6 months. As for the relationship between anticholinergic agents and vibegron, 15 cases were treated with vibegron as the first choice without anticholinergics (First-choice cases), and 33 cases were treated with vibegron alone after switching from anticholinergics (Switch cases). Vibegron was used in combination with anticholinergic agents in 9 cases (Add-on cases). Response rates at 6 months were 85.0% in First-choice cases, 66.3% in Switch cases, and 40.7% in Add-on cases. Univariate analyses failed to identify any significant risk factors for refractory cases. CONCLUSIONS Vibegron was effective in pediatric cases of DUI, with efficacy demonstrated within a short time in many cases. Vibegron is expected to play a significant role in the treatment of DUI in pediatric cases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to compare the demographic characteristics of school-aged children with nocturnal enuresis and factors influencing hospital visits between two regions in Japan. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture, and Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture. An anonymous online questionnaire was administered to all public elementary and junior high school students (aged 6-16 years) or their guardians. Questions included age, gender, perinatal history, frequency of nocturnal enuresis, frequency of bowel movements, comorbidities, and hospital visits for nocturnal enuresis. RESULTS The survey response rates were 15.4% in Hirakata City and 37.0% in Urayasu City. In total, 426 children with nocturnal enuresis in Hirakata City and 270 in Urayasu City were included in the final analysis. In both cities, the boy-girl ratio was approximately 2:1, and the prevalence of nocturnal enuresis gradually decreased with age. Multivariate analysis revealed that children aged ≥11 years had a significantly higher proportion of hospital visits (OR, 2.61; 95% CI: 1.49-4.56; p = 0.001; OR, 2.72; 95% CI: 1.12-6.64; p = 0.027, respectively). However, the frequency of nocturnal enuresis did not affect hospital visits. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study suggest that parents with school-aged children have low awareness that nocturnal enuresis is a health problem and therefore subject to medical consultation. Although the proportion of hospital visits increases for children aged ≥11 years, children and families suffering from nocturnal enuresis should be encouraged to see a doctor instead of adopting a "wait and see attitude," even at a young age.

Abstract
Micturition requires complex interplay involving bladder, peripheral neural network, spinal cord, and brain. Spinal dysraphism presents variety of neural lesions that may affect this interplay leading to neurogenic bladder. However, the diagnosis of neurogenic bladder in those with spinal dysraphism is often difficult and contrasted to other types of neurogenic bladder caused by complete neural lesions such as spinal cord injury or brain tumor. Typically, neurogenic bladder caused by spinal dysraphism shows lower motor neuron lesion and partial neural injury. However, upper motor signs can be seen with the occurrence of tethered cord syndrome and developmental immaturity of bladder control often complicated by fecal impaction. Thus, the diagnosis of tethered cord syndrome should be made cautiously. Several invasive and noninvasive diagnostic modalities could be applied for accurate diagnosis, preventing renal damage and controlling urinary incontinence. However, it should be borne in mind that no single study is definitive for accurate diagnosis, so it requires careful scrutiny in interpretation. The follow-up scheme of these patients should be determined to detect urological deterioration due to the development of tethered cord syndrome. Since the development of tethered cord syndrome shows diverse nature implicating urological and orthopedic issues, multidisciplinary collaboration is essential for comprehensive care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND According to a population-based study, approximately 6.8% of children and adolescents in Germany suffer from acute or chronic constipation. It can be of organic or functional origin and may be associated with comorbid disturbances, particularly fecal incontinence. METHODS We selectively searched the PubMed and Google Scholar databases for articles with the keywords "constipation," "children and adolescents," and "incontinence". Recommendations are based on the AWMF guideline on constipation and fecal incontinence and on international guidelines and reviews. RESULTS More than 90% of cases of chronic constipation are of functional origin. Organic causes vary with age and call for targeted differential diagnosis. Invasive tests are only rarely necessary. Functional constipation may be associated with fecal and urinary incontinence, and the relative risk of urinary tract infections is 2.2 to 6.5. There may be associated psychological symptoms and mental disorders in 30-50% of cases. The cornerstone of treatment is patient and parent education, along with laxative medication and toilet training. Instructional programs have been found effective in otherwise refractory cases. CONCLUSION The treatment of constipation in childhood should begin as soon as the differential diagnostic evaluation is completed. The education of parents, follow-up at close intervals, and drug treatment and behavioral therapy that are adapted to the symptoms can improve quality of life.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Enuresis prevalence is approximately 5-15% in children aged 6-7 years. The presence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in enuretic children is associated with 3 times greater risk of persistent enuresis. The Multimodal Treatment Study for ADHD (MTA) Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham version IV (SNAP-IV) is one of the most used instruments to evaluate ADHD symptoms, but it is a time-consuming questionnaire. OBJECTIVE This study aims to compare the accuracy of an easy questionnaire named Short Screening Instrument for Psychological Problems in Enuresis (SSIPPE) to MTA-SNAP-IV in identifying ADHD symptoms in children and adolescents with enuresis. METHODS ADHD symptoms screening was performed by applying SSIPPE and MTA-SNAP-IV in 160 children and adolescents with enuresis, aged 6-14 years, who regularly attended a specialized clinic for pediatric urology. RESULTS A total of 153 individuals with enuresis were included in the study (52% males), among them 55 (35.9%) were considered positive for inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity by the MTA-SNAP-IV. Sensitivity for SSIPPE concerning MTA-SNAP-IV was 85.5%, and specificity was 84.7%, with an overall accuracy of 85% in identifying ADHD symptoms. DISCUSSION In the present study, we found high accuracy of SSIPPE in relation to MTA-SNAP-IV in identifying ADHD symptoms in the enuretic population, with substantial agreement between instruments. Its sensitivity and specificity were considered high for a screening method. However, there are some limitations. The population studied is composed of a group of children with enuresis, which can lead to an overestimation of the test's accuracy, as the disorder under investigation is more prevalent in this population. This can be explained by the high specificity of the test (84.7%) associated with the fact that the SSIPPE is an instrument tailored for an enuretic population, unlike the MTA-SNAP IV. CONCLUSION The SSIPPE has proven to be a reliable tool in identifying ADHD symptoms in the enuretic population. In addition to being a quick and easily applicable instrument.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the feasibility of applying quantitative magnetic resonance imaging techniques for the diagnosis of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) comorbid autistic traits (ATs). METHODS A prospective study was performed by selecting 56 children aged 4-5 years with ADHD-ATs as the study group and 53 sex- and age-matched children with ADHD without ATs as the control group. All children underwent magnetic resonance scans with enhanced T2*- weighted magnetic resonance angiography (ESWAN), 3D-PCASL, and 3D-T1 sequences. Iron content and cerebral blood flow parameters were obtained via subsequent software processing, and the parameter values in particular brain regions in both groups were compared and analyzed to determine the characteristics of these parameters in children with ADHD-ATs. RESULTS Iron content and cerebral blood flow in the frontal lobe, temporal lobe, hippocampus, and caudate nucleus of children with ADHD-ATs were lower than those of children with ADHD without ATs (p < 0.05). Iron content and CBF values in the frontal lobe, temporal lobe and caudate nucleus could distinguish children with ADHD-ATs from those without ATs (AUC > 0.5, p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Quantitative magnetic resonance techniques could distinguish children with ADHD-ATs.
