Abstract
The objective of this investigation is to learn more about the structural, electrical, spectroscopic, and physiochemical characteristics of biologically active cyano-4'-hydroxybiphenyl (CHBP). The title molecule's optimized conformational analysis was computed using the DFT/B3LYP/6-311++G (d, p) level of theory. The observed wavenumbers were compared with theoretical FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra. 1H and 13C NMR experimental spectra in CDCl3 solution (solvent phase) were recorded and the chemical shift was calculated. NBO analysis was used to examine the transfer of charge as well as the intermolecular and intramolecular bonding of orbitals. The TD-DFT (time-dependent DFT) approach was used to estimate theoretical values for both the gas and solvent (ethanol) in the corresponding transitional research, which was conducted using UV-Vis's spectra. Energy gap (Eg = 0.26764 eV) implies that the strong potential for charge transfer, and the stability of the CHBP compound. CHBP compound's has bioactive nature, its drug-likeness and biological properties were evaluated. The predicted topological polar surface area of 44.02 \AA2 for the molecule falls within the permissible range of < 140 \AA2. Based on the docking results, the most stable docking score value is -6.84 kcal/mol. In that interaction, MET 165 affects both phenyl rings in a pi-sulphur fashion and a single bond hydrogen with protein moieties GLN 192. This suggests that the pi-alkyl in PRO 168 is a hydroxyl substitutional ring. Our findings demonstrate the CHBP compound is a good inhibitor against the SAR COVID-19 viral protein.

Abstract
The H2O@HKUST-1 and DMF@HKUST-1 systems were experimental and computationally assessed, employing XRD/TGA/FT-IR/DFT-calculations, evidencing that H2O or DMF coordinated to Cu, modulating HKUST-1 photocatalytic properties. DMF@HKUST-1 has narrower bandgap promoting higher-crystallinity and light-harvesting. H2O@HKUST-1 showed smaller particle sizing and sharp morphology. Theoretical models, (H2O)1@HKUST-1 and (DMF)1@HKUST-1, containing one coordinated molecule, elucidated bandgap modulation associated with infiltration. H2O@HKUST-1/DMF@HKUST-1 presented bandgaps [eV] of 3.6/3.4, by Tauc plots, and 3.55/3.26, by theoretical calculations, narrowing bandgap, compared with non-solvated HKUST-1(HKUST-1NS). Both composites raised the valence band (VB) and lowered the conduction band (CB), but DMF@HKUST-1 most raised VB. Topological analysis revealed that guests i) with higher electronic density, raised VB, and ii) induced π-backbonding, lowering CB. DMF@HKUST-1 presented a higher photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (μmol), 26.45, in the first 30 min of the reaction, nevertheless, H2O@HKUST-1 presented a competitive activity, of 17.32. In large periods, H2O@HKUST-1/DMF@HKUST-1 showed practically the same hydrogen evolution, 45.50/49.03.

Abstract
We reported a novel electron-donor-acceptor (EDA) photocatalyst formed in situ from isoquinoline, a diboron reagent, and a weak base. To further optimize the efficiency of this photocatalyst, Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were conducted to investigate the substituent effects on the properties of vertical excitation energy and redox potential. Subsequently, we experimentally validated these effects using a broader range of substituents and varying substitution positions. Notably, the 4-NH2 EDA complex derived from 4-NH2-isoquinoline exhibits the highest photocatalytic efficiency, enabling feasible metal free borylation of aromatic C-H bond and detosylaion of Ts-anilines under green and super mild conditions. These experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our strategy for photocatalyst optimization.

Abstract
The effect of annealing temperature and capping ligands on the electron mobility and electronic structure of indium oxide (In2O3) nanocrystals (NCs) was investigated using oleic acid (OA), benzoic acid (BA), and 4-aminobenzoic acid (4ABA). The NCs were deposited on SiO2/Si wafers for electron mobility measurements using a field effect transistor device, and the annealing temperature (TAnn) was varied from 150 to 350 °C. At TAnn = 200 °C, the electron mobility of the BA-capped In2O3 NC thin film was greater than that of 4ABA-capped In2O3 NCs, while the opposite trend was observed at TAnn = 250 °C. This difference can be attributed, at the lower annealing temperature, to the π-π interaction in the BA-capped In2O3 NC thin film, which is hindered in the ABA-capped In2O3 NC thin film owing to its -NH2 group. At higher annealing temperature, NN bond formation in the ABA-capped In2O3 NC thin film confirmed by Raman spectroscopy plays a key role even after significant thermal decomposition of the ligands in the In2O3 NC thin films. At TAnn = 250 °C, the reorganization energy of BA- or 4ABA-capped In2O3 NCs estimated in the framework of Marcus theory was very similar to each other, indicating that the ligands decompose almost completely, as confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The electronic structure was studied by energy-resolved electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (ER-EIS) after annealing the NCs on ITO electrodes at TAnn = 150 °C, 200 °C, or 250 °C. The valence band peak was observed near -6.8 eV for the BA- or 4ABA-capped In2O3 NC films at TAnn =150 °C or 200 °C, but not at TAnn =250 °C. However, for the OA-capped In2O3 NCs, the peak near -6.8 eV was observed for all annealing conditions. Considering the exclusive perseverance of the carboxylate group in the OA-capped In2O3 NCs even at TAnn = 250 °C, as confirmed by FT-IR and TGA, one attributes the peak at -6.8 eV to an electronic state formed by the electronic interaction between the In2O3 NC and the carboxylate groups.

Abstract
We demonstrated the effects of substituents in fluorescein on the photoredox catalytic performance under visible light. For the systematic investigation, the phenyl ring of fluorescein was substituted with six different functional groups (i.e., amine, amide, isothiocyanate, aminomethyl, bromo, or nitro group) at the 5- or 6-position. The fluorescein derivatives were carefully characterized through photophysical and electrochemical analyses. The substituent effects were estimated by comparing the photopolymerization of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) and N-vinylpyrrolidone (VP) in the presence of triethanolamine (TEOA) under aerobic conditions to that of intact fluorescein. As a result, the amine and nitro groups exhibited the lowest performances, presumably due to intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer (PET) promoted by the strong electron push-pull effect. The others, representative moderate or weak deactivators and activators, exhibited inferior performances than intact fluorescein, presumably owing to the more negative ΔGPET values, resulting in a decreased rate of intermolecular PET. These results are crucial for understanding the structure-performance relationship and the development of visible-light photoredox catalysts with improved performance and functionality.

Abstract
A series of hitherto unknown 5,14-diphenylbenzo[j]naphtho[2,1,8-def][2,7]phenanthrolines, containing a 5-azatetracene and a 2-azapyrene subunit, were prepared by combination of Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions with a one-pot Povarov/cycloisomerization reaction. In the final key step four new bonds are formed in one step. The synthetic approach allows for a high degree of diversification of the heterocyclic core structure. The optical and electrochemical properties were studied experimentally and by DFT/TD-DFT and NICS calculations. Due to the presence of the 2-azapyrene subunit, the typical electronic nature and characteristics of the 5-azatetracene moiety are lost and the compounds are electronically and optically more related to 2-azapyrenes.

Abstract
Anthracene (C14 H10 ) and its derivatives, π-conjugated molecules in acenes, have been widely researched in terms of their reactions, physical properties, and self-assembly (or crystal engineering). These molecules can be functionalized to tune reactivities, optoelectronic properties, and self-assembling abilities. Structural changes in the molecular assemblies, solid states, and crystals have recently been discovered. Therefore, a systematic discussion of anthracene's molecular structure, packing, and optical properties based on its intermolecular structure and phase transitions is important for future chemical and structural design. In the present review, we discuss anthracene's molecular design, dimer packing, and crystal structure, focusing on the structural phase transitions of its crystals. We also provide examples of the phase transitions of anthracene crystals. Changes to edge-to-face of CH-π interaction and face-to-face packing of π-π interaction affect the thermodynamic stabilities of various crystal structures. These structures can inform the prediction of structural and physical properties.

Abstract
Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) fluorescent molecules with unique photoelectric properties have received extensive attention due to the wide range of applications. In this work, two novel phenothiazine-based luminophores DPE-PTZ-Cl and DPE-PTZ-CF3 were designed based on the frontier molecular orbital (FMO) theory and construction strategy of AIEgens. As expected, both of the luminophores displayed typical AIE behavior and realized the spatial separation of FMOs, which was confirmed by the positive solvatochromism behavior. Their AIE properties could be attributed to the twisted three-dimensional (3D) conformation. Such a conformation resulted from "butterfly-like" phenothiazine and a multirotor structure of diphenylethylene. The spatial separation of FMOs originated from the push-pull electronic synergistic effect of the donor-acceptor (D-A) architecture. Interestingly, DPE-PTZ-Cl also showed a rare blue-shifted mechanochromic (MC) luminescence property. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) experiments were carried out to reveal that the phase transformation between crystalline and amorphous states was responsible for the peculiar solid-state luminescence phenomenon.

Abstract
The IUPAC name of curcumin is (1E, 6E)-1,7-Bis(4-hydroxy-3methoxyphenyl) hepta-1,6-e-3,5-dione (7B3M5D) and is characterized by spectroscopic profiling with FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra obtained both experimentally and theoretically. PED analysis was done for the confirmation of minimum energy obtained in the title compound. Optimized geometrical parameters are compared with experimental values obtained for 7B3M5D by utilizing B3LYP functional employing 6–311++G (d,p) level of theory. The HOMO-LUMO, MEP, and Fukui function analysis has been used to elucidate the information regarding charge transfer within the molecule. The stabilization energy and charge delocalization of the 7B3M5D were performed by NBO analysis. This article assesses that the title compound act as a potential inhibitor of the PI3K/AKT inhibitor through in silico studies, like molecular docking, molecular dynamics (MD), ADMET prediction and also this molecule obeys Lipinski's rule of five. 7B3M5D was docked effectively in the active site of PI3K/AKT inhibitor.

Abstract
The development of the uranyl cation as a powerful photocatalyst is seriously delayed in comparison with the advances in its fundamental and structural chemistry. However, its characteristic high oxidative capability in the excited state ([UO2 ]2+ * (+2.6 V vs. SHE; SHE=standard hydrogen electrode) combined with blue-light absorption (hv=380-500 nm) and a long-lived fluorescence lifetime up to microseconds have reveals that the uranyl cation approaches an ideal photocatalyst for visible-light-driven organic transformations. Described herein is the successful use of uranyl nitrate as a photocatalyst to enable C(sp3 )-H activation and C-C bond formation through hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) under blue-light irradiation. In particular, this operationally simple strategy provides an appropriate approach to the synthesis of diverse and valuable diarylmethane motifs. Mechanistic studies and DFT calculations have provided insights into the detailed mechanism of the photoinduced HAT pathway. This research suggests a general platform that could popularize promising uranyl photocatalytic performance.

Abstract
A series of 5,7,9-substituted 2-azapyrenes were synthesized for the first time. The synthesis relies on Brønsted acid promoted benzannulation of alkyne precursors prepared by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. The synthetic strategy is efficient and the scope covers a variety of functional groups. The electrochemical behavior and photophysical properties of the products were investigated by UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and DFT calculations.

Controlling the reactivity of [Pd (II)(N^N^N)Cl] + complexes using 2,6-bis(pyrazol-2-yl)pyridine ligands for biological application: Substitution reactivity, CT-DNA interactions and in vitro cytotoxicity study. J Inorg Biochem 2020; 213:111261. Abstract
Four [(N^N^N)Pd(II)Cl]+ complexes [chloride-(2,2':6',2''-terpyridine)Pd(II)]Cl (PdL1), [chlorido(2,6-bis(N-pyrazol-2-yl)pyridine)Pd(II)]Cl (PdL2), [chlorido(2,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-N-pyrazol-2-yl)pyridine)Pd(II)]Cl (PdL3) and [chlorido(2,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-N-pyrazol-2-ylmethyl)pyridine)Pd(II)]BF4 (PdL4) were synthesized and characterized. The rates of substitution of these Pd(II) complexes with thiourea nucleophiles viz; thiourea (Tu), N,N'-dimethylthiourea (Dmtu) and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylthiourea (Tmtu) was investigated under pseudo first-order conditions as a function of nucleophile concentration [Nu] and temperature using the stopped-flow technique. The observed rate constants vary linearly with [Nu]; kobs = k2[Nu] and decreased in the order: PdL1 > PdL2 > PdL3 ≫ PdL4. The lower π-acceptability of the cis-coordinated N-pyrazol-2-yl groups (which coordinates via pyrazollic-N π-donor atoms) of the PdL2-4 significantly decelerates the reactivity relative to PdL1. Furthermore, the six-membered chelates having methylene bridge in PdL4 do not allow π-extension in the ligand and introduces steric hindrance further lowering the reactivity. Trends in DFT calculated data supported the observed reactivity trend. Spectrophotometric titration data of complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) and viscosity measurements of the resultant mixtures suggested that associative interactions occur between the complexes and CT-DNA, likely through groove binding with high binding constants (Kb = 104 M-1). In vitro MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] cytotoxic activity data showed that PdL1 was the most potent complex against MCF7 breast cancer cells; its IC50 value is lower than that of cisplatin. The results demonstrate how modification of a spectator ligand can be used to slow down the reactivity of Pd(II) complexes. This is of special importance in controlling drug toxicity in both pharmaceutical and biomedical applications.

Abstract
The importance of fluorinated products in pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry has necessitated the development of synthetic fluorination methods, of which direct C-H fluorination is among the most powerful. Despite the challenges and limitations associated with the direct fluorination of unactivated C-H bonds, appreciable advancements in manipulating the selectivity and reactivity have been made, especially via transition metal catalysis and photochemistry. Where transition metal catalysis provides one strategy for C-H bond activation, transition-metal-free photochemical C-H fluorination can provide a complementary selectivity via a radical mechanism that proceeds under milder conditions than thermal radical activation methods. One exciting development in C-F bond formation is the use of small-molecule photosensitizers, allowing the reactions i) to proceed under mild conditions, ii) to be user-friendly, iii) to be cost-effective and iv) to be more amenable to scalability than typical photoredox-catalyzed methods. In this review, we highlight photosensitized C-H fluorination as a recent strategy for the direct and remote activation of C-H (especially C(sp3)-H) bonds. To guide the readers, we present the developing mechanistic understandings of these reactions and exemplify concepts to assist the future planning of reactions.

Abstract
It is shown, quantum chemically, how structural distortion of an aromatic dye molecule can be leveraged to rationally tune its optoelectronic properties. By using a quantitative Kohn-Sham molecular orbital (KS-MO) approach, in combination with time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT), the influence of various structural and electronic tuning parameters on the HOMO-LUMO gap of a benzenoid model dye have been investigated. These parameters include 1) out-of-plane bending of the aromatic core, 2) bending of the bridge with respect to the core, 3) the nature of the bridge itself, and 4) π-π stacking. The study reveals the coupling of multiple structural distortions as a function of bridge length and number of bridges in benzene to be chiefly responsible for a decreased HOMO-LUMO gap, and consequently, red-shifting of the absorption wavelength associated with the lowest singlet excitation (λ≈560 nm) in the model cyclophane systems. These physical insights together with a rational approach for tuning the oscillator strength were leveraged for the proof-of-concept design of an intense near-infrared (NIR) absorbing cyclophane dye at λ=785 nm. This design may contribute to a new class of distortion-controlled NIR absorbing organic dye molecules.

Abstract
Three deep-blue emitters PPi-Pid, PPi-Xid, and PPi-Mid based on a novel conjugated system phenantroimidazole-π-indolizine have been designed and synthesized. Here, indolizine with appropriate π-conjugation length was used as the acceptor profited from its high-photoluminescence quantum yield and good electron-withdrawing ability. Fluorescent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on PPi-Pid, PPi-Xid, and PPi-Mid achieved deep-blue emissions with the Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage coordinates of (0.151, 0.076), (0.155, 0.052), and (0.153, 0.052); high brightness of 14350, 4377, and 4002 cd/m2; and high external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) of 6.01, 3.90, and 4.28%, respectively. Moreover, it is noticeable that all of the devices exhibited efficiencies increasing with brightness. In particular, the PPi-Pid-based device exhibited high EQE over 6% at a high brightness of 14350 cd/m2. Such high brightness along with high EQE is very rare whether in deep-blue fluorescent or thermally activated delayed fluorescent OLEDs.

Abstract
New benzothiadiazole derivatives, 4,7-bis(5-phenylthiophen-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (PT-BTD) and 4,7-bis[4-(thiophen-2-yl)phenyl]benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (TP-BTD), were synthesized and characterized as small-molecule organic semiconductors for organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) and complementary inverters. The thermal, optical, and electrochemical properties of the new compounds were fully characterized. Vacuum-deposition and solution-shearing methods were used to fabricate thin films based on these compounds. Thin films based on PT-BTD exhibited p-channel characteristics with hole mobilities as high as 0.10 cm2 V-1 s-1 and current on/off ratios >107 for top-contact/bottom-gate OTFT devices. With an optimized blending ratio of PT-BTD and the representative n-channel semiconductor N,N'-1H,1H-perfluorobutyl dicyanoperylenediimide, bulk heterojunction ambipolar transistors were fabricated with balanced hole and electron mobilities of 0.10 and 0.07 cm2 V-1 s-1 , respectively. Furthermore, a complementary-like inverter was fabricated using ambipolar thin-film transistors, which showed a high voltage gain of 84.

Abstract
Stable platinum nanoparticles were successfully prepared by the self-assembly of para-substituted styrene derivatives onto the platinum surfaces as a result of platinum-catalyzed dehydrogenation and transformation of the vinyl groups to the acetylene ones, forming platinum-vinylidene/-acetylide interfacial bonds. Transmission electron microscopic measurements showed that the nanoparticles were well dispersed without apparent aggregation, suggesting sufficient protection of the nanoparticles by the organic capping ligands, and the average core diameter was estimated to be 2.0 ± 0.3 nm, 1.3 ± 0.2 nm, and 1.1 ± 0.2 nm for the nanoparticles capped with 4-tert-butylstyrene, 4-methoxystyrene, and 4-(trifluoromethyl)styrene, respectively, as a result of the decreasing rate of dehydrogenation with the increasing Taft (polar) constant of the para-substituents. Importantly, the resulting nanoparticles exhibited unique photoluminescence, where an increase of the Hammett constant of the para-substituents corresponded to a blue-shift of the photoluminescence emission, suggesting an enlargement of the HOMO-LUMO band gap of the nanoparticle-bound acetylene moieties. Furthermore, the resulting nanoparticles exhibited apparent electrocatalytic activity towards oxygen reduction in acidic media, with the best performance among the series of samples observed with the 4-tert-butylstyrene-capped nanoparticles due to an optimal combination of the nanoparticle core size and ligand effects on the bonding interactions between platinum and oxygen species.

Abstract
The photothermal properties of several near-infrared-absorbing nanoparticles derived from group of uniform materials based on organic salts (GUMBOS) and composed of cationic dyes coupled with biocompatible anions are evaluated. These nanoparticles were synthesized using a reprecipitation method performed at various pH values: 2.0, 5.0, 7.0, 9.0, and 11.0. The cations for the nanoparticles derived from GUMBOS (nanoGUMBOS), [1048] and [1061], have absorbance maxima at wavelengths overlapping with human soft tissue absorbance minima. Near-infrared-absorbing nanoGUMBOS excited with a 1064 nm continuous laser led to heat generation, with an average temperature increase of 20.4 ± 2.7 °C. Although the [1061][Deoxycholate] nanoGUMBOS generated the highest temperature increase (23.7 ± 2.4 °C), it was the least photothermally efficient compound (13.0%) due to its relatively large energy band gap of 0.892 eV. The more photothermally efficient compound [1048][Ascorbate] (64.4%) had a smaller energy band gap of 0.861 eV and provided an average photothermal temperature increase of 21.0 ± 2.1 °C.

Abstract
A structure–effect study is presented pertaining to the HOMO–LUMO tuning of compounds built upon the 9-fluorenylidene scaffold frequently incorporated as a moiety within organic-based semiconducting materials. The results represent the first reported analysis employing an ensemble of spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and crystal structure data to elucidate and compare the electronic properties of 9-fluorenones, 9-fluorenylidenes, and 9-fluorenimine derivatives. The results also provide the first spectroscopically and crystallographically measured description of exciton coupling within 9,9′-bifluorenylidenes. The 9-ylidene bond is seen to play a key role impacting the electronic properties, and an examination of the effects of substituents, conjugation, heteroatoms, and steric strain on the 9-ylidene bond in a diverse set of structures with representative structural variations relevant to the HOMO–LUMO tuning is presented. Increasing conjugation decreased the HOMO–LUMO gap (HLG), increased the HOMO energy (EHOMO), but decreased the LUMO energy (ELUMO). Substituent effects were observed to produce only slight changes that tended to decrease the HLG and increase both EHOMO and ELUMO, while heteroatom inclusion at the 9-ylidine bond tended to decrease the HLG, EHOMO, ELUMO, and the extinction coefficient. In the sterically hindered 9,9′-bifluorenylidenes, increased steric strain that promoted either an increase in the torsion angle or bond length of the 9-ylidene bond was seen to decrease the HLG via exciton coupling. These results elucidate the HOMO–LUMO tuning of systems containing a 9-fluorenylidene moiety and may assist in developing materials with specifically tuned HLGs and HOMO–LUMO levels for a variety of applications.

Abstract
We have systematically synthesized 1-, 3-, 6-, and 8-alkyl-substituted pyrene derivatives using the latest synthesis methods and investigated the effects of alkyl substitution on the photophysical properties of the pyrene chromophore. Like the trimethylsilyl group, which is known to enhance the fluorescence properties of some chromophores through σ*-π* conjugation, alkyl groups (primary, secondary, and tertiary) enhanced the fluorescence quantum yield of the pyrene chromophore through σ-π conjugation in most cases. While these enhancements in the fluorescence quantum yield were beyond expectations, the results were supported by absolute measurements. These results also indicate that ubiquitous alkyl groups can be used to tune the photophysical properties of the pyrene chromophore, as well as to improve the solubility or prevent aggregation. In other words, they can be used to develop new photofunctional materials.
