Abstract
Copper (Cu) nanodrugs can be facilely prepared through atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) in an aqueous medium. However, it is difficult to control the morphology of Cu nanodrugs and thereby optimize their anticancer activity. In this work, aqueous ATRP was combined with polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) to prepare Cu nanodrugs with various morphologies. We mapped the relationship between polymerization condition and product morphology in which each morphology shows a wide preparation window. Decreasing the reaction temperature and feeding more Cu catalysts can improve the mobility of chains, facilitating the morphology evolution from sphere to other high-order morphologies. The resultant Cu nanodrugs with high monomer conversion and high Cu loading efficiency could be easily taken by cancer cells, showing excellent anticancer efficacy in vitro. This work proposed a potential strategy to prepare Cu nanodrugs with a specific morphology in batches, providing the method to optimize the anticancer efficacy through morphology control.

Abstract
In this study, some copper catalysts used for atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) were explored as efficient anti-tumor agents. The aqueous solution of copper-containing nanoparticles with uniform spheric morphology was in situ prepared through a copper-catalyzed activator generated by electron transfer (AGET) ATRP in water. Nanoparticles were then directly injected into tumor-bearing mice for antitumor chemotherapy. The copper nanodrugs had prolonged blood circulation time and enhanced accumulation at tumor sites, thus showing potent antitumor activity. This work provides a novel strategy for precise and large-scale preparation of copper nanodrugs with high antitumor activity.

Abstract
Biodegradable polymers are of current interest and chemical functionality in such materials is often demanded in advanced biomedical applications. Functional groups often are not tolerated in the polymerization process of ring-opening polymerization (ROP) and therefore protective groups need to be applied. Advantageously, several orthogonally reactive functions are available, which do not demand protection during ROP. We give an insight into available, orthogonally reactive cyclic monomers and the corresponding functional synthetic and biodegradable polymers, obtained from ROP. Functionalities in the monomer are reviewed, which are tolerated by ROP without further protection and allow further post-modification of the corresponding chemically functional polymers after polymerization. Synthetic concepts to these monomers are summarized in detail, preferably using precursor molecules. Post-modification strategies for the reported functionalities are presented and selected applications highlighted.

Abstract
Postpolymerization modification is a critical strategy for the development of functional polycarbonate scaffolds for medicinal applications. To expand the scope of available postpolymerization functionalization methods, polycarbonates containing pendant thioether groups were synthesized by organocatalyzed ring-opening polymerization. The thioether group allowed for the postpolymerization ring-opening of functional epoxides, affording a wide variety of sulfonium-functionalized A-B diblock and A-B-A triblock polycarbonate copolymers. The pendant thioether groups were found to be compatible with previously developed postsynthesis functionalization methods allowing for selective and orthogonal modifications of the polycarbonates.

Abstract
A redox-responsive amphiphilic polymeric prodrug was synthesized in a facile way by polycondensation of oligo(ethylene glycol) with dicarboxylic acids including malic acid and 3,3'-dithiodipropionic acid , followed by esterification with ibuprofen, which was used as a model drug. Because of its amphiphilic nature and relatively high molecular weight, this polymeric prodrug can form stable micelles in aqueous media with a low critical micellar concentration (CMC). Free ibuprofen molecules can be steadily incorporated into the core of these micelles with a surprisingly high loading content (38.9 wt%), owing to hydrophobic interaction and π-π stacking with the ibuprofen moieties in the copolymer. The in vitro release results indicate that there was a relatively slow and sustained release of the conjugated ibuprofen moieties, while encapsulated ibuprofen molecules showed a rapid release. Furthermore, for both the conjugated ibuprofen and the encapsulated ibuprofen there was an accelerated release in the presence of 10 mM dl-dithiothreitol due to cleavage of the disulfide bonds, which lead to disassociation of the micelles. Notably, this prodrug was revealed to have excellent cell compatibilities via a cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. Confocal laser scanning microscope observations indicated that the micelles based on the polymeric prodrug can be taken up quickly by cells and present a redox-responsive drug release in cytoplasm. This kind of polymeric nanocarrier with a high drug loading content, low CMC, excellent biocompatibility and rapid response to a reductive environment may have tremendous scope in the area of controlled drug delivery.

Abstract
Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane was hydrophilically modified by grafting with poly(oxyethylene methacrylate) (POEM) using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The successful grafting of PVC main chain by POEM was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The molecular weight and hydrophilicity of membranes increased with the amount of POEM grafting, as characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and contact angle measurement, respectively. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) analysis revealed the microphase-separated structure of PVC-g-POEM and the domain spacing increased from 59.3 to 86.1 nm with increasing grafting degree. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used for the direct visualization of the mouse embryonic fibroblast (MEF) cell and bacteria adhesion on the membrane surface. Protein adsorption and eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell adhesion tests showed that the bioinert properties of membranes were significantly increased with POEM content.
