Abstract
BACKGROUND Registered nurses (RNs) in oncology must cope with the suffering of patients, the inevitability of death and their own transience. This poses a possible risk for the development of burnout, which can result in low job satisfaction and ultimately an increased intention to leave the job. Our aim was to assess psychological distress in registered nurses working in oncology. OBJECTIVE AND METHOD A cross-sectional survey with the Oldenburger Burnout Inventory was presented to nurses within the German Cancer Society. It collected data on psychological distress via two subscales, exhaustion and disengagement. Socio-demographic data were assessed. RESULTS Among 83 participating nurses, we found a prevalence of high disengagement in 17 oncology nurses (20.48%) and high exhaustion (MExh>2.5 = burnout) in 44 (53.00%). Looking at the highest values of both scales, 18.08% of respondents were at high risk for psychological distress. There was a low correlation between disengagement and age (r = 0.331, p < 0.01). The risk of high disengagement among nurses older than 50 (n = 9, 52.94%) was three times higher than for those who were 50 or younger (n = 8, 47.06%) (RR = 8.642, 95% CI: 1.475-5.749, p < 0,01). CONCLUSION This survey highlights a high rate of burnout among German oncology nurses. Interventions should be developed, implemented, and delivered in an age-appropriate manner. To ensure high-quality care and patient safety, oncology nurses should be offered preventive mental healthcare services later in their careers. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Professional Supervision (PS) is a common approach used to reduce the fallout from stress and burnout. It involves monthly face-to-face meetings between a supervisor and supervisee to address well-being and professional goals. This pilot study examines 12 radiation therapists (RTs) perceptions of participating in PS. METHODS Conducted in the Christchurch Radiation Oncology Centre, this mixed-methods pilot study introduced PS in March 2022. In August 2023, 12 RTs completed a QUALTRICS online questionnaire consisting of 33 questions, including the Supervisor Working Alliance Inventory (SWAI). The SWAI assessed the alliance of supervision from a supervisee's perspective and comprised of 19 questions on a 7-point Likert scale and nine yes/no statements with optional comments. Five demographic questions were also included. RESULTS All 12 RTs completed the questionnaire, with quantitative results indicating a positive alliance between supervisors and supervisees. RTs found PS to be a safe and comfortable space for reflective practice and support. Thematic analysis of qualitative data from additional comments revealed PS enabled RTs to reflect on career achievements, appreciate highlights of being an RT and consider future career paths within the profession. CONCLUSIONS Radiation therapists responded positively to PS, suggesting its potential in managing workplace stressors, promoting career advancement and providing dedicated time for reflection, support and guidance. RTs endorsed the efficacy of PS in enhancing their practice and advocated for its widespread adoption among RTs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oncology nurses constantly provide emotional support to patients and are confronted with their suffering, which represents chronic stress leading to the development of burnout syndrome. AIM This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of burnout and identify associated factors in a sample of oncology nurses. METHODS We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study with 70 oncology nurses at the Salah Azaiez Institute of Oncology in Tunisia. Burnout was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Service Survey. This study follows the STrengthening the Reporting of OBservational studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) Guidelines. RESULTS Burnout affected 60 nurses (85.7%), with a high level in 20% of cases. High scores of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and low personal accomplishment were recorded in 65.7%, 50% and 25.7% respectively. Emotional exhaustion was associated with higher age, marital status, having 2 or 3 or more dependent children, number of patients under care exceeding 15, professional experience and history of psychiatric problems. Depersonalisation was correlated with age, marital status, professional grade and history of psychiatric problems. Low levels of personal accomplishment increased with the number of patients under care, history of psychiatric problems and the regret of professional choice. CONCLUSION Burn-out is a reality in oncology hospital with an alarming rate. Interventions including rationalisation of workload, support groups, training in emotion and stress management would improve the mental health of these nurses and increase their performance. The screening for burnout should be included as a regular practice in health promotion programmes for oncology health professionals, particularly for a vulnerable subgroup that possesses the risk mentioned above factors.

Abstract
PURPOSE The complexity of metastatic breast cancer, its rapidly evolving treatment, and the changing trajectory toward long-term survivorship create unique challenges for the provision of supportive care. The experiences of health professionals enacting supportive care in contexts of those living long-term with incurable cancer have received limited research attention. This qualitative study aimed to gain further insight into health professionals' experiences of supportive care in this context. METHOD Semi-structured interviews were conducted via phone and online with 25 health and community-care professionals who support people living with metastatic breast cancer in Australia. A mix of sampling strategies was used. Thematic analysis was undertaken. Findings were interpreted through an ethics of care lens. RESULTS Three key themes were identified. First, participants experienced supportive care as highly relational. Second, they encountered numerous moral and ethical dilemmas in enacting supportive care. Finally, enacting supportive care was complicated by fragmented and sporadic provision in a system in which supportive care is differentially valued across professions and settings. CONCLUSION Findings draw attention to complexities in enacting supportive care in the context of metastatic breast cancer, with implications to patients and professionals. To improve the quality of care provided to patients and minimise the risk of professional burnout, greater attention is needed in supportive care guidelines to the ethical, moral, and emotional complexities experienced by professionals in this context. IMPLICATIONS FOR CANCER SURVIVORS People living with metastatic breast cancer are a growing proportion of cancer survivors. The knowledge gained through this study may help professionals to better meet the supportive care needs of people living with metastatic breast cancer, a treatable but not curable condition.

Abstract
AIMS To investigate the relationship between the psychological resilience and burnout of nurses caring for COVID-19 patients and to determine the factors that affect their psychological resilience and burnout. BACKGROUND In pandemic diseases such as COVID-19, nurses experience burnout due to long working hours, decreased quality of life and anxiety/fear about their own/families' health. Psychological resilience helps to control burnout in nurses and prevent the development of a global nurse shortage. DESIGN This was a descriptive, correlational study. METHODS The sample of this study included 201 nurses in a Training and Research Hospital. The study used the Brief Resilience Scale and the Burnout Measure Short Version. Data were collected between 4 May and 1 June 2020. Statistical analysis was made with Pearson/Spearman, independent sample t test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. RESULTS Nurses reported moderate burnout and psychological resilience, with a negative and highly significant correlation between psychological resilience and burnout levels. CONCLUSIONS In order to increase the quality of patient care/treatment, nurse managers need to reduce nurses' burnout and increase their psychological resilience. Nurses are recommended to adopt a healthy lifestyle, organize training programmes and implement psychological resilience interventions to prevent sleep disorders. Giving nurses the tools to understand what they need to manage within their locus of control will allow them to find a new sense of resilience, preventing potential burnout.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oncology nurses are considered the group with the highest risk for moral distress, compassion fatigue and burnout. Mindful self-care may help oncology nurses improve their well-being and solve psychological problems. However, the investigation and in-depth analysis of mindful self-care among oncology nurses in China is lacking. OBJECTIVES To identify heterogeneity groups of oncology nurses on mindful self-care ability and examine the sociodemographic correlation to these profiles. DESIGN Cross-sectional descriptive study. PARTICIPANTS The study was carried out among oncology nurses in two affiliated comprehensive hospitals and one affiliated oncology hospital. A total of 839 oncology nurses were enrolled in this survey. METHODS From January to May 2023, a cross-sectional study was carried out among oncology nurses using convenient sampling. The subjects were given the brief Mindful Self-Care Scale (B-MSCS) and the General Demographic Information Questionnaire. Latent profile analysis using the Mplus 7.4 program was used to separate oncology nurses' mindful self-care into a variety of subgroups. The SPSS 25.0 statistical program was used to analyze the data. One-way ANOVA and the chi-square test were performed to compare the score of B-MSCS in each class and the difference in sociodemographic characteristics among the subgroups. Multinomial logistic regression was used to examine the influence of the sociodemographic variables on each class. RESULTS The total score of the B-MSCS was 76.40 ± 13.19. The support structure dimension had the highest score, with an average mean value of 3.60, and physical care had the lowest score at 2.57. The findings of the latent profile analysis showed that respondents were divided into three classes, moderate mindful self-care(51.2%), low-low mindful relaxation(14.8%), and high-high mindfulness self-awareness(34.0%). Across scale scores and dimensions, three groups demonstrated statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Univariate analysis revealed significant differences between the three profiles in terms of professional title, position, concern about self-care, interest in mindfulness, and experience with meditation (p < 0.05). Profile membership was predicted by 3 factors, namely, self-care status, interest in mindfulness, and experience with meditation. CONCLUSION The mindful self-care among oncology nurses can be categorized into three latent profiles: moderate mindful self-care, low-low mindful relaxation, and high-high mindfulness self-awareness. Multinomial logistic regression results indicated that whether oncology nurses concern about self-care, interest in mindfulness and have experience with meditation influenced different latent profiles. Nursing manager should develop targeted intervention based on the typological characteristics of the oncology nurses to improve their mindful self-care ability and mental health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the level of indicators of technostress among nurses with and without a leadership position, the relationship between indicators of technostress and burnout and the moderating role of support offered by employers. The availability of support offers and further needs of nurses were also explored. DESIGN Cross-sectional online survey. SETTING Acute care hospitals in Germany. PARTICIPANTS 303 nurses (73.3% female) who have worked at the hospital for at least 1 year and a minimum of 10 hours per week. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES Indicators of technostress (complexity, overload, usefulness, lack of technical support and unreliability) served as predictors in multiple linear regression analyses to examine their association with the primary outcome burnout. Support of employers was included as a moderator variable. Validated subscales from the Digital Stressors Scale and Copenhagen Burnout Inventory as well as open-ended questions were applied. RESULTS There were no differences in the level of indicators of technostress found between nurses with and without a leadership position. Techno-overload (β=0.259, p=0.004) and techno-complexity (β=0.161, p=0.043) were significantly associated with burnout. Support by the employer moderated the relationship between lack of technical support and burnout significantly (R² change=0.026, F(1,292)=7.41, p=0.007). Support offers such as training, IT service and contact persons on the ward helped nurses to be more confident in the use of information and communication technologies. However, they expressed further needs with regard to these and new offers. CONCLUSIONS There was an association between two indicators of technostress and burnout. Therefore, particular attention should be paid to supporting nurses in terms of techno-overload and techno-complexity. Furthermore, there is still a need for customised support and further offers from employers in the use of digital technologies.

Abstract
Background In a public health crisis such as COVID-19, cancer teams face significant challenges including acute work disruptions, rapid shifts in clinical practice, and burnout. Within this context, it is crucial to explore team functioning from the perspectives of multiple stakeholders. Objective This quantitative pilot study aimed to 1) measure perceptions of multi-stakeholders on key indicators of team functioning (Team Effectiveness, TE, and Team Relational Coordination, TRC) during COVID-19 and its transition, and 2) document whether patient perceptions of TE/TRC are significantly associated with their cancer care experiences. Methods A descriptive design with repeated measures was used. Through convenience sampling, participants were recruited from two outpatient cancer clinics at a large university-affiliated hospital, in Montréal, Qc, Canada. Sixty-six participants (ie, 13 healthcare professionals, 40 patients, 6 informal caregivers, and 7 volunteers) completed e-measures at T1 (years 2021-2022) and n = 44 at T2 (year 2023). Results At T1, participants reported high perceptions of Team Effectiveness (scale 1 to 6) M = 4.47; SD = 0.7 (Mdn = 4.54; IQR: 4.06-5) and Relational Coordination (scale 1 to 5) M = 3.77; SD = 0.77 (Mdn = 3.81; IQR: 3.12-4.38) with no significant differences in perceptions across the four groups. At T2, no significant changes in TE/TRC perceptions were found. At both time points, patient perceptions of TE/TRC were significantly correlated with positive cancer care experiences (Spearman rank correlation rs ranging from 0.69 and 0.83; p < 0.01). Conclusion To our knowledge, this is the first study documenting perceptions of cancer team functioning amidst the pandemic as reported by multiple stakeholders. Significant relationships between patient perceptions of TE/TRC and their cancer care experiences underscore the importance of including patients' views in team functioning processes. Future work should rely on larger sample sizes to further explore key elements of optimal team functioning.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Palliative care and oncology generate a risk of burnout and psychological distress in professionals. The purpose of this study is to identify both psychopathological and positive factors related to mental health at work. It aims (i) to explore the extent to which these professionals are confronted with suffering, illness, and death; and to explore the prevalence of psychological distress and/or burnout, (ii) to identify potential determinants of burnout and psychological wellbeing at work, (iii) to develop an integrative model of mental health; and to identify frequency and impact of confrontations with death, and (iv) to identify profiles of professionals are at risk of developing a mental health disorder or, conversely, characterized by wellbeing. METHODS A cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted in palliative care and oncology evaluating confrontations with death, coping, burnout, psychological distress, personality, self-esteem, well-being and meaning at work. Regressions, clustering, and structural equation modeling analyses were performed. RESULTS 109 professionals participated (58% from oncology and 42% from palliative care), of which 79% were female, and 65% were between 30 and 49 years old. Aim i: 30% witnessed an intolerable suffering at least 9 times a month, 45% reported moderate to high levels of burnout, 39% suffered from anxiety and 11% from depression. Aim ii: the determinants of burnout were the personality traits conscientiousness and neuroticism, low meaning of work, and low wellbeing (R2 = 0.44). The determinants of wellbeing were work meaning, depersonalization, self-esteem, fulfillment and low emotional exhaustion (R2 = 0.71). Aim iii: the integrative model included both well-being (self-esteem, conscientiousness) and psychopathology (neuroticism, anxiety) parameters, and strongly satisfied the standard SEM goodness of fit indices (e.g., CFI, IFI, and TLI ≥ 0.95). Aim iv: three profiles were identified: (a) a "distressed profile" with a majority of professionals at the patient's bedside, (b) a "disengaged profile" with professionals working as second-line consultants, (c) a "wellbeing profile" contains profiles of caregivers insensitive to psychological distress and with a high level of positive Impact of confrontation on different areas of their lives. CONCLUSIONS An integrative approach is essential to understand the full range of mental health issues for professionals. Meaning of work is a key factor in professional interventions that should primarily affect front-line professionals with limited experience.

Abstract
PURPOSE This overview of reviews aimed to summarize the prevalence of burnout and the dimensions of burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment) in oncology professionals around the world. METHODS The CINAHL, Embase, PsycINFO, and PubMed databases were searched from inception to September 13, 2023. AMSTAR 2 was used to assess the quality of reviews. The overlap between reviews was calculated. RESULTS Twelve reviews were included. Overall, reviews showed that burnout was prevalent in oncologists and oncology nurses. On the other hand, no reviews meta-analyzed the prevalence of burnout in oncology radiation therapists. In addition, the dimensions of burnout, high emotional exhaustion, high depersonalization, and low personal accomplishment were highly prevalent across reviews in oncologists, oncology nurses, and oncology radiation therapists. In oncologists, the Americas (specifically Canada) showed the highest prevalence rates for high emotional exhaustion, whereas high depersonalization and low personal accomplishment were mainly prevalent in Europe and Asia, respectively. In oncology nurses, high emotional exhaustion and high depersonalization were mainly prevalent in Asia, whereas low personal accomplishment was more prevalent in the Americas (specifically Canada). The prevalence of overall levels of burnout was not meta-analyzed by continents. CONCLUSION Some methodological improvements may help to make more robust the findings of this overview (e.g., specific subgroup meta-analyses by oncology specialties), which may help readers reach more precise, direct, and consistent findings. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Examine the prevalence of burn-out in health professionals working in a hospital dedicated to patients with cancer. Explore the relationship between attachment style and burn-out in healthcare professionals working in Oncology and Palliative Care. METHODS Cross-sectional descriptive and correlational study with a sample of 337 health professionals working in a tertiary hospital dedicated to oncology care. The evaluation protocol included a sociodemographic questionnaire, two burn-out (Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI) and Maslach Burnout Inventory) and attachment (Adult Attachment Scale) scales. Statistical analysis was performed by IBM SPSS Statistics V.25. The tests were performed at a significance level of 5%. RESULTS In the sample, there is a predominance of professionals working in oncology services (76,8%). Comparing professionals who work in oncology services and palliative care, it appears that just over half have high levels of personal burn-out, however the groups do not differ significantly (53.5% vs 56.8%, p=0.619); the same is observed in work-related (p=0.626) and patient-related burn-out (p=0.672). The number of hours per week in which one has the perception that is exposed to suffering is positively correlated with personal, work-related burn-out and exhaustion (p<0.05). Correlating the two burn-out scales in the sample, it is observed that higher levels of personal, work-related and patient-related burn-out are associated with higher levels of emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation, as well as lower levels of personal accomplishment (p<0.001). Considering the correlation between the burn-out dimensions and attachment scale, it appears that high levels of exhaustion, depersonalisation, personal, work-related and patient-related burn-out were associated with higher levels of anxiety (p<0.001). Similar results were found in the palliative care professionals sample. CONCLUSIONS The constant exposure to the suffering of others places high emotional demands on oncology and palliative care professionals, making them vulnerable to burn-out. Burn-out is a multifactorial process, that involves individual characteristics with environmental effects. There are no significant differences between Oncology and Palliative Care professionals. Higher levels of personal, work-related and patient-related burn-out are associated with higher levels of anxiety. These results suggest that an anxious attachment style increases the risk of burn-out . In the sample, the most important predictor of burn-out was the number of hours per week exposed to suffering. In order to prevent burn-out, there is a growing evidence that suggests mindfulness, exercise, high-quality sleep and pursuit of happiness can improve burn-out in healthcare professionals. This work brings the advantage of using two burn-out assessment scales (particularly CBI scale), in addition to trying to correlate the level of burn-out and attachment in professionals exposed to suffering.

Abstract
PURPOSE The degree of caring behavior of oncology nurses is a crucial factor in the care provided to patients with cancer. In this study, we aimed to investigate factors related to oncology nurses' caring behavior, including their resilience and professional quality of life. METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 107 oncology nurses at an urban tertiary hospital from May 18 to 24, 2015. We used a self-report questionnaire to measure resilience, professional quality of life, and degree of caring behavior. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, correlations, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS/WIN 20.0. RESULTS Oncology nurses presented with low levels of resilience and caring behavior, and high levels of compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress. There was a statistically significant relationship between the degree of caring behavior, resilience (r = .43, p < .001), compassion satisfaction (r = .51, p < .001), and burnout (r = -.42, p < .001), as well as between secondary traumatic stress and burnout (r = .34, p < .001). Factors associated with oncology nurses' degree of caring behavior were compassion satisfaction (t = 6.00, p < .001) and educational level (t = 3.45, p = .001). CONCLUSION This study demonstrates that oncology nurses' degree of caring behavior is related to their professional quality of life and education. These findings suggest that enhancing oncology nurses' healthy coping strategies at both the individual and organizational levels can further develop holistic nursing care. Additionally, it is necessary to examine the factors affecting nurses' compassion satisfaction and to try to promote this aspect.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurses have a crucial role in identifying spiritual needs and providing spiritual care to patients living with cancer. AIM This study evaluated Iranian oncology nurses' spiritual care competence and its relationship with job satisfaction and moral distress. METHOD This cross-sectional study was conducted on 280 Iranian oncology nurses in 2020 using four questionnaires: demographic questionnaires, the Spiritual Care Competence Questionnaire (SCCQ), the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) and the nurses' Moral Distress Questionnaire (MDS-R). FINDINGS The mean scores indicated a medium to high Spiritual Care Competence (SCC), mild to moderate moral distress and high job satisfaction. There was a positive correlation between SCC and external job satisfaction (r=184, p<0.05) and a negative correlation between SCC and moral distress (r=-0.356, p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS SCC diminishes with decreasing external job satisfaction and increasing moral distress. To improve the SCC of nurses working with patients living with cancer, it is recommended that nursing managers and policymakers revise the organisational policies to tackle the obstacles and consider the related factors to provide an ethical climate, implement quality spiritual care and increase job satisfaction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout is a significant occupational problem among oncology nurses, affecting their physical and mental health and the quality of medical care. Besides, there is a gradually increasing trend that we should pay more attention to. OBJECTIVES To investigate the prevalence, influencing factors and interventions of oncology nurses' burnout among different continents. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis. DATA SOURCES English literature in PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE/EBSCOhost, CINAHL Complete and Web and of Science were searched before 1 March 2022. RESULTS Twenty studies included 5904 oncology nurses in this review. Meta-analysis was performed in 19 of the studies. First, the pooled mean scores estimate for emotional exhaustion (EE) was 22.13 (95% CI: 19.69-24.58), depersonalization (DP) was 6.89 (95% CI: 5.67-8.10) and personal accomplishment (PA) was 32.86 (95% CI: 29.34-36.37). A high level of burnout was defined as a high level of EE (score ≥ 27), a high level of DP (score ≥ 10), and a low level of PA (score ≤ 33). Of these, 36.40% of nurses reported high EE, 28.26% reported high DP and 28.68% reported low levels of PA. Furthermore, there are differences in the prevalence, influencing factors and intervention measures of burnout among oncology nurses in different regions. The highest pooled mean scores for EE and DP were found in Asia. And the highest pooled mean scores for PA were found in the Americas. The factors that influence burnout among Asian oncology nurses are mostly personal-related factors such as empathy and personality traits, while the factors that influence burnout among European oncology nurses are work-related factors. This review included three intervention studies from Europe and the Americas, with fewer intervention studies on burnout in oncology nurses in Asia. CONCLUSION Oncology nurses in Asia had the highest pooled mean scores for EE and DP, and the highest mean scores for the PA pool in the Americas. There are regional differences in the prevalence and factors influencing burnout among oncology nurses, but there are few interventions for it. Therefore, future interventions should be developed to address the differences that exist in different regions. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Burnout among oncology nurses in different regions is a concern, and this review may provide a reference for managers to target interventions to alleviate burnout among oncology nurses.

Abstract
The chronic distress faced by healthcare professionals (HCPs) in oncology was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, heightening the need to improve their resilience. The Entretiens Jacques Cartier symposium provided an opportunity for participants from France and Quebec to share perspectives on resilience at work and discuss interventions at individual and organizational levels to support HCP health and well-being. Fifty-eight stakeholders were invited to the symposium, including HCPs, government decision-makers, researchers, and patient representatives. The symposium began with presentations on the nature of professional resilience at work in oncology and promising interventions developed in France and Quebec. Participants were then engaged in deliberation on how evidence and experiential knowledge could contribute to workplace strategies to strengthen resilience. Small-group reflexive sessions using the photovoice method, and an intersectoral roundtable, elicited the expression and deliberation of multiple perspectives on the nature and building blocks of resilience. Four main themes emerged from the discussions: (1) that resilience remains a muddy concept and can be associated pejoratively with "happycracy"; (2) that resilience must contend with bounded autonomy and captors; (3) that it relies on a sense of coherence at work; and (4) that patients play a role in improving HCP resilience. Stakeholders from healthcare systems in different countries view resilience at work as a means of equipping teams to handle chronic and punctual stresses in cancer care. The symposium emphasized the importance of better defining what resilience at work means and pursuing explorations of multicomponent interventions to support oncology HCPs and the patients they care for. The themes raised by participants at the symposium suggest pathways for furthering this exploration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The term resilience is used to refer to multiple related phenomena, including: (i) characteristics that promote adaptation to stressful circumstances, (ii) withstanding stress, and (iii) bouncing back quickly. There is little evidence to understand how these components of resilience are related to one another. Skills-based adaptive characteristics that can respond to training (as opposed to personality traits) have been proposed to include living authentically, finding work that aligns with purpose and values, maintaining perspective in the face of adversity, managing stress, interacting cooperatively, staying healthy, and building supportive networks. While these characteristics can be measured at a single time-point, observing responses to stress (withstanding and bouncing back) require multiple, longitudinal observations. This study's aim is to determine the relationship between these three aspects of resilience in hospital workers during the prolonged, severe stress of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS We conducted a longitudinal survey of a cohort of 538 hospital workers at seven time-points between the fall of 2020 and the spring of 2022. The survey included a baseline measurement of skills-based adaptive characteristics and repeated measures of adverse outcomes (burnout, psychological distress, and posttraumatic symptoms). Mixed effects linear regression assessed the relationship between baseline adaptive characteristics and the subsequent course of adverse outcomes. RESULTS The results showed significant main effects of adaptive characteristics and of time on each adverse outcome (all p < .001). The size of the effect of adaptive characteristics on outcomes was clinically significant. There was no significant relationship between adaptive characteristics and the rate of change of adverse outcomes over time (i.e., no contribution of these characteristics to bouncing back). CONCLUSIONS We conclude that training aimed at improving adaptive skills may help individuals to withstand prolonged, extreme occupational stress. However, the speed of recovery from the effects of stress depends on other factors, which may be organizational or environmental.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Globally, the high prevalence of burnout in healthcare workers (HCWs) is of the utmost concern. Burnout is a state of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and a decreased sense of personal accomplishment. While the 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19) exacerbated the burnout prevalence among HCWs, limited studies have explored this phenomenon using qualitative methodologies in the Eastern Cape Province and South Africa generally. This study explored how frontline healthcare workers experienced burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic in Mthatha Regional Hospital. METHODS Ten face-to-face in-depth interviews were conducted with non-specialized medical doctors and nurses who directly cared for COVID-19-infected patients during the pandemic in Mthatha Regional Hospital (MRH). In-depth interviews were digitally recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data were managed through NVIVO 12 software before being thematically analyzed using Colaizzi's analysis method. RESULTS Four main themes emerged from the analysis. These themes were burnout manifestation (emotional strain, detachment and irritability, uncertainty-induced fear, and anxiety, physical exhaustion, yet, low job accomplishment, dread and professional responsibility), precursors of burnout (occupational exposure to high mortality, staff shortages, elongated high patient volume and workload, disease uncertainties and consistent feeling of grief), alleviating factors of burnout (time off work, psychologist intervention, periods of low infection rate and additional staff), and the last theme was every cloud has a silver lining (improved infection prevention and control (IPC) measures, learning to be more empathetic, the passion remains and confidence grows). CONCLUSION The COVID-19 pandemic brought about a rapid change in the work environment of healthcare workers who are the backbone of efficient healthcare services, thereby rendering them vulnerable to increased burnout risks. This study provides strategic information for policymakers and managers on developing and strengthening welfare policies to promote and protect frontline health workers' well-being and work functioning.

Abstract
PURPOSE Over the past year, the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has significantly increased the demand placed on health care professionals around the world. The already complex cancer care has been complicated further by the restructuring of services (e.g., working processes, treatment allocation). This study was designed to explore the level of burnout, coping and resilience of the cancer care workforce during SARS-CoV-2. METHODS Cross-sectional, multinational study undertaken between March-May 2021. In total 271 healthcare professionals were recruited in the study. These were specialized and/or working in the oncology sector from around the globe. Data were collected with an online survey with the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Brief-COPE (Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced) Scale and The Maslach 's Burnout Inventory. RESULTS The majority of the participants were cancer nurses followed by oncologists. The mean overall Burnout score was 64.86 (SD 17.15), the overall COPE score was 31.72 (SD 12.39) and the overall Resilience score was 69.48 (SD 12.4). Positive correlations were found between the COPE dimensions and the burnout overall score (0.316, 0.388, 0.398). The burnout overall score was negatively correlated with the resilience score (p -0.126). CONCLUSION The findings showed significand levels of burnout, diminished coping abilities and reduced resilience among cancer care professionals. This study emphasizes the need for a timely and appropriate preparation of the healthcare systems to better support cancer care professionals in the event of a new SARS-CoV-2 healthcare emergency.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Oncology care professionals are exposed to high levels of stress that can lead to burnout. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of burnout among nurses, oncologists and radiographers working in oncology patient care during the COVID -19 pandemic. METHODS Our electronic questionnaire was sent to e-mail contacts registered in the system of the Hungarian Society of Oncologists and to all oncology staff via an internal information system in each cancer center. Burnout was measured using the Maslach Burnout Inventory, which measures depersonalization (DP), emotional exhaustion (EE), and personal accomplishment (PA). Demographic and work-related characteristics were collected in our self-designed questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, two-sample t-tests, analyzes of variance, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were performed. RESULTS A total of 205 oncology care workers' responses were analyzed. Oncologists (n = 75) were found to be significantly more committed to DP and EE (p = 0.001; p = 0.001). Working more than 50 h per week and being on-call had a negative effect on the EE dimension (p = 0.001; p = 0.003). Coming up with the idea of working abroad had a negative effect on all three dimensions of burnout (p ≤ 0.05). Respondents who did not leave their job due to their current life situation had significantly higher DE, EE, and lower PA (p ≤ 0.05). Intention to leave current profession was specific in (n = 24/78; 30.8%) of nurses (p = 0.012). CONCLUSION Our results suggest that male gender, being an oncologist, working more than 50 h per week and taking on call duties have a negative impact on individual burnout. Future measures to prevent burnout should be integrated into the professionals' work environment, regardless of the impact of the current pandemic. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE Prevention and oncopsychological training should be developed gradually at the organisational or personal level to avoid early burnout of professionals.

Abstract
PURPOSE Adjuvant endocrine therapy (ET) for 5-10 years is the backbone of the therapeutic strategy in patients with hormone receptor positive (HR+) early breast cancer (BC). However, long-term adherence to adjuvant ET represents a major challenge for most patients. According to prior studies, side effects of adjuvant ET are an important reason for poor adherence. In contrast, better communication and relational bond between patients and healthcare providers (HCPs) may improve adherence. The FOR-AD (Focus on non-adherence) study aimed at better understanding the representation of adjuvant ET by patients and their HCPs, in order to improve the care process. METHODS Three focus groups of premenopausal women (receiving adjuvant ET for variable amount of time) and two focus groups of HCPs (including oncologists, pharmacists, and nurses) were conducted, each including around ten participants. Thematic analyses using a general inductive approach were constructed to report participants' representations. RESULTS Two main themes emerged across groups, and appeared of major importance. Representations on adjuvant ET were often homogenous within each group, but differed between patients and their HCPs. The relationship between both groups was considerably discussed, particularly its importance in facilitating adherence to adjuvant ET. Suggestions on improving the care process were also given, such as systematically including psychologists in follow-up care paths and having a nurse navigator follow patients under treatment with adjuvant ET. CONCLUSION The present qualitative exploration may help buildi future tailored interventions to improve adherence to adjuvant ET, in particular regarding the role of nurse navigators.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Existing studies that seek to understand nurses' experiences of burnout are dominated by cross-sectional, quantitative survey designs employing predetermined measures, often overlooking important job-related stressors that can be highly dependent on industry and professional contexts. Cancer nurses are a group of professionals who warrant special attention, as burnout in this profession is often attributed to high job demands and the challenge of caring for a vulnerable cohort of patients. A deeper understanding of the job demands associated with cancer nursing is required to provide insights about the work experiences of cancer nurses and identify aspects that mitigate burnout and stress. PURPOSE This study describes the antecedents of burnout among Australian cancer nurses by focusing on the demands and resources inherent in their work. We aim to build on the existing literature by identifying job resources that may serve to mitigate the antecedents of burnout. METHODOLOGY/APPROACH An in-depth interview study of cancer nurses across a spectrum of age and experience in Australian metropolitan public health care services was conducted over a 2-year period that coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic. The job demands and resources model framed this study of job-related factors associated with burnout and conversely job resources that may foster work engagement. RESULTS Patient aggression, workload, emotional demands, and abusive peers and managers were reported as distinct job demands, whereas job significance and supportive peers who demonstrated leadership, along with task variety, were identified as job resources. CONCLUSION Australian cancer nurses work in an environment where job demands are increasingly disproportionate to job resources, leading to significant risk of burnout. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Our study identifies modifiable strategies for improving work conditions for this group who play a critical role in the health care system.

Abstract
Introduction Breast cancer is increasing in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), and most women are diagnosed at a late stage. This leads to increased suffering for the patients and challenging care situations for nurses. Limited resources in healthcare, lack of oncology training, and low health literacy in society result in even more demanding situations for nurses. Objective The objective was to explore nurses' experiences of caring women for with breast cancer in Tanzania. Methods The study employed a descriptive qualitative design. Fifteen nurses, working in oncology units in three major hospitals in Tanzania were interviewed using a semistructured interview guide. The participants had a minimum of 6 months experience of caring for breast cancer patients. Purposive sampling was used. Data were analyzed by qualitative content analysis. Results Two main themes emerged: Challenges in caring for breast cancer patients and Nurses' psychological distress. The late diagnosis was very challenging for the nurses. Low health literacy regarding breast cancer disease and treatment, patients' financial difficulties, minimal oncology nursing education, and technology in healthcare systems were also major challenges. The nurses experienced psychological distress, lost hope, and faced ethical dilemmas while providing cancer care. Conclusion The findings of this study conclude that nurses face emotional distress and ethical dilemmas while caring for patients with breast cancer. Late diagnosis, lack of infrastructure and resources, and low health literacy among patients, family, and healthcare providers have a great impact on the stress that the nurses experience.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout syndrome has been extensively studied in different health science professions. It has been less studied in physiotherapy than in professions such as medicine. Moreover, it is not known how the working condition influences this syndrome. OBJECTIVE The main objective of this study was to compare the burnout index between contract and freelance physiotherapists in the private sector in the Community of Madrid, Spain. METHODS A cross-sectional study was performed with 174 participants divided into 2 groups; one group was composed of contract physiotherapists (n = 87) and the other group was composed of freelance physiotherapists (n = 87). A Mann-Whitney U test was performed for comparison between the groups. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the correlations between the burnout syndrome index and the secondary variables. RESULTS There were statistically significant differences when comparing the groups, with a large effect size for the burnout index with a higher rate among contract physiotherapists (78 [71-84.75]) than in freelance physiotherapists (61.5 [55-72.75]).There were also significant differences in the type of patients treated, number of patients treated per day, time spent per patient, and the annual salary range between the contract and freelance physiotherapists. CONCLUSION Contract physiotherapists who participated in this study had a significantly higher burnout syndrome index than freelance physiotherapists. Other socio-occupational variables were also found to be related to the burnout syndrome index in freelance physiotherapists and contract physiotherapists. The results of this study could be of interest for new occupational health strategies to reduce the burnout index in contract physiotherapists.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep disturbances can lead to work-family conflicts and affect the mental health of nurses. This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of sleep disturbance on the association between work-family conflict (WFC) and burnout in nurses. METHODS Responses to a questionnaire from 156 nurses working in a hospital in South Korea were analyzed. Multiple linear regression analysis and PROCESS Macro Model 4 were used to analyze the mediating effect of sleep disturbance on the relationship between WFC and burnout. A bootstrapping approach was used to test the statistical significance of the indirect parameter effects. RESULTS The WFC of nurses had a positive correlation with sleep disturbance and burnout. Moreover, sleep disturbance completely mediated the association between WFC and burnout. CONCLUSIONS Nursing administrators should pay careful attention to WFCs that interfere with nurses' sleep and reduce their sleep quality, and design suitable working schedules that minimize the effects of WFC. In addition, hospital administrators should improve shift scheduling to ensure good sleep quality and reduce the health effects of WFC among nurses.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to investigate the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on nurses' burnout and related factors. BACKGROUND Nurses at the frontlines in every field of the health system and composed most of the health service industry closely experience all negative events during the pandemic. METHODS This study is a rapid systematic review. RESULTS A total of 751 studies were selected, of which 13 studies were compatible with the inclusion criteria. The sample size ranged from 107 to 12.596. The studies determined that nurses' burnout levels were generally moderate level and above during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sociodemographic, occupational, psychological, and COVID-19-related factors affected this burnout. CONCLUSION The results of this review may use to make implications that would ease the effect of the pandemic on nurses and develop strategies to protect nurses from burnout in similar possible situations. Abstract
BACKGROUND For decades and before the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, for health care workers (HCWs) burnout can be experienced as an upsetting confrontation with their self and the result of a complex a multifactorial process interacting with environmental and personal features.
AIM To literature review and meta-analysis was to obtain a comprehensive understanding of burnout and work-related stress in health care workers around the world during the first outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
METHODS We performed a database search of Embase, Google Scholar and PubMed from June to October 2020. We analysed burnout risk factors and protective factors in included studies published in peer-reviewed journals as of January 2020, studying a HCW population during the first COVID-19 wave without any geographic restrictions. Furthermore, we performed a meta-analysis to determine overall burnout levels. We studied the main risk factors and protective factors related to burnout and stress at the individual, institutional and regional levels.
RESULTS Forty-one studies were included in our final review sample. Most were cross-sectional, observational studies with data collection windows during the first wave of the COVID-19 surge. Of those forty-one, twelve studies were included in the meta-analysis. Of the 27907 health care professionals who participated in the reviewed studies, 70.4% were women, and two-thirds were either married or living together. The most represented age category was 31-45 years, at 41.5%. Approximately half of the sample comprised nurses (47.6%), and 44.4% were working in COVID-19 wards (intensive care unit, emergency room and dedicated internal medicine wards). Indeed, exposure to the virus was not a leading factor for burnout. Our meta-analytic estimate of burnout prevalence in the HCW population for a sample of 6784 individuals was 30.05%.
CONCLUSION There was a significant prevalence of burnout in HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic, and some of the associated risk factors could be targeted for intervention, both at the individual and organizational levels. Nevertheless, COVID-19 exposure was not a leading factor for burnout, as burnout levels were not notably higher than pre-COVID-19 levels.

Abstract
PURPOSE The COVID-19 pandemic upended nearly all aspects of daily life and of medical care, placing a double burden of professional and personal concerns on those who provide medical care. We set out to assess the burden of the pandemic on provider outlook and understand how cancer survivorship providers experienced rapid changes to practice. METHODS We distributed a survey through the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC) to its accredited organizations in mid-October 2020. We included questions on provider characteristics, changes in patient care practices resulting from the pandemic, worry about COVID-19, and concern about impact on cancer survivors. RESULTS Of the n = 607 participants, three-quarters were female and three-quarters were White. Only 2.1% of participants reported having had COVID-19, but 43% reported anxiety about getting COVID-19 and over a quarter experienced sadness or depression, anxiety about the future, changes to sleep, difficulty concentrating, or social isolation. Approximately half of providers also expressed significant concern about progression of cancer in patients who experienced care delays or were afraid of accessing in-person care. In terms of changes to survivorship care, respondents reported changes to visitor policies, delays or cancellations, and efforts to reduce in-person visits. CONCLUSIONS COVID-19 has taken a significant toll on front-line healthcare professionals, including oncologists and cancer care allied health professionals. Findings support proactive mental health support of healthcare professionals as well as emergency preparedness to manage delays to care for cancer patients in the event of future unexpected pandemics.

Abstract
Rationing of nursing care (RNC) is characterized by the omission of any aspect of the required patient care, resulting in incomplete or delayed nursing activities. Oncology nurses are exposed to a very high psychological burden, which can lead to the development of professional burnout syndrome (PBS). The level of PBS might be related to life and job satisfaction. This study aimed to identify determinants affecting RNC and reveal the relationship between RNC, life and job satisfaction, and the PBS levels among oncology nurses. The sample was a hundred oncology nurses from four hospitals in Poland with a mean age of 43.26 ± 10.69 years. The study was conducted from March 2019 to February 2020. The self-administered sociodemographic questionnaire and validated scales determining missed nursing care, job and life satisfaction, and life orientation were used: Basel Extent of Rationing of Nursing Care-Revised (BERNCA-R), Satisfaction with Job Scale (SWJS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R), and Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). The mean BERNCA score was 1.55 ± 0.15, which indicates the frequency of RNC was between “never” and “rarely”. The mean SWJS score was 11.71 ± 5.97, which showed that nurses were “dissatisfied” and “rather dissatisfied” with their job. A low SWLS score was reported by 59% of nurses, which means that more than half of the respondents described their life satisfaction as low. In LOT-R, 66% of nurses reported pessimistic and 31% neutral life orientation. The mean overall MBI score was 49.27 ± 19.76 points (EE = 63.56 ± 25.37, DEP = 37.2 ± 24.95, and lack of PA = 47.05 ± 22.04), which means that half of the nurses perceived burnout and half did not. Additionally, the higher the job satisfaction (SWJS), the more frequent the RNC (BERNCA) (p < 0.05). The greater the EE, the stronger the sense of lack of PA, and the higher the PBS (MBI) level, the less frequent the RNC (BERNCA). In conclusion, there is a phenomenon of omission of some aspects of care among oncology nurses, but it is not frequent and concerns areas not directly related to therapeutic tasks, but requiring effort and not resulting in quick noticeable effects. It depends only little on life satisfaction and more on job satisfaction and PBS level. The results may indicate the professionalism of Polish nurses, their responsibility towards their patients’ life and health, and the sense of mission that enables them to perform their duties regardless of the external and internal difficulties. The presence of the PBS phenomenon in oncology nurses highlights the need for continued research in this area.

Abstract
The paper begins by reviewing the literature on oncology healthcare professionals’ (HCP) mental health. We summarize and present the current data on HCP mental health in order to understand the baseline state of oncology HCPs’ mental health status prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. At each juncture, we will discuss the implications of these mental health variables on the personal lives of HCPs, the healthcare system, and patient care. We follow by reviewing the literature on these parameters during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to better understand the impact of COVID-19 on the overall mental health of HCPs working in oncology. By reviewing and summarizing the data before and after the start of the pandemic, we will get a fuller picture of the pre-existing stressors facing oncology HCPs and the added burden caused by pandemic-related stresses. The second part of this review paper will discuss the implications for the oncology workforce and offer recommendations based on the research literature in order to improve the lives of HCPs, and in the process, improve patient care.

Abstract
This study addresses the gap in the literature regarding the impact of nurses' personal religious and spiritual beliefs on their mental well-being and burnout. A model of the association between these factors was tested based on surveys of 207 nurses located in southeastern USA and analyzed to determine the association between religion/spirituality, mental well-being, and burnout. A path analysis supported a model in which, through its positive impact on mental well-being, religion/spirituality was negatively associated with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and positively associated with personal accomplishment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The mental health effects of healthcare work during the COVID-19 pandemic have been substantial, but it is not known how long they will persist. This study aimed to determine if hospital workers' burnout and psychological distress increased monotonically over 1 year, during which waves of case numbers and hospitalizations waxed and waned, or followed some other pattern. METHODS A prospective longitudinal survey was conducted at four time-points over 1 year in a cohort of 538 hospital workers and learners, which included validated measures of burnout (emotional exhaustion scale of Maslach Burnout Inventory) and psychological distress (K6). Repeated measures ANOVA tested changes over time and differences between subjects by occupational role, age and ethnic group. The direction and magnitude of changes over time were investigated by plotting rates of high scores (using cut-offs) at each time-point compared to case rates of COVID-19 in the city in which the study took place. RESULTS There were significant effects of occupational role (F = 11.2, p < .001) and age (F = 12.8, p < .001) on emotional exhaustion. The rate of high burnout was highest in nurses, followed by other healthcare professionals, other clinical staff, and lowest in non-clinical staff. Peak rates of high burnout occurred at the second or third measurement point for each occupational group, with lower rates at the fourth measurement point. Similarly to the results for emotional exhaustion, rates of high psychological distress peaked at the spring 2021 measurement point for most occupational groups and were higher in nurses than in other healthcare professionals. CONCLUSIONS Neither emotional exhaustion nor psychological distress was rising monotonically. Burnout and psychological distress were consistently related to occupational role and were highest in nurses. Although emotional exhaustion improved as the case rate of COVID-19 decreased, rates of high emotional exhaustion in nurses and other healthcare professionals remained higher than was typically measured in hospital-based healthcare workers prior to the pandemic. Ongoing monitoring of healthcare workers' mental health is warranted. Organizational and individual interventions to support healthcare workers continue to be important.

Abstract
From the analysis of the scientific literature relating to the health of oncological patients, the need to consider the global dimension of health of individuals emerges, which subsumes the bodily dimension and involves all the actors who offer their contribution to it in different ways. In this direction, the state of the art of the health construct offered by healthcare professionals highlights a lack of scientific contributions to the specific subject although these professionals are fundamental figures in oncological diagnosis setups. Considering, therefore, the healthcare roles as an integral part of the interactive framework where the oncological patient is placed, this paper offers the results of an Italian study relating to the health of healthcare professionals who take charge of patients with a neoplasia diagnosis. In particular, through an analysis of the discursive productions of 61 participants (healthcare workers, oncological patients and citizens) by the M.A.D.I.T. methodology (Methodology for the Analysis of Computerized Textual Data), this study aimed at observing the discursive reality of health offered by healthcare workers. The collected data highlight a low degree of health expressed by the healthcare professionals, who are strongly typified by rhetoric such as “the one who is destined to suffer psychologically”. These narrations limit the possibilities of development of different narrations in depicting these professionals: critical repercussions in the interaction with the oncological patients emerged, as well as in their global health degree. In conclusion, the results show the need for deep investigation into the impact that the health degree of health professionals can have on the patients they take charge of.

Abstract
Objective Inflammatory bowel disease clinical nurse specialists (IBD-CNSs) face increasing pressures due to rising clinical and patient demands, advanced complexity of work role, and minimal specialist management training and support. Stress and burn-out could undermine the stability of this workforce, disrupting clinical provision. We reviewed the literature on stress and burn-out to demonstrate the lack of evidence pertinent to IBD-CNSs and make the case for further research. Design Following Levac et al’s scoping review framework, relevant databases were searched for publications reporting work-related stress and burn-out among specialist nurses. Following screening and consensus on selection of the final articles for review, all authors contributed to data charting. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Scoping Review extension guided reporting of the review. Results Of 194 retrieved articles, eight were eligible for review. None focused on IBD-CNSs, were qualitative, or UK-based. Three core themes were identified: Rates of Burn-out, Mitigating and Alleviating Factors, and Preventing and Resolving Burn-out. Risk of burn-out is greatest in novice and mid-career CNSs. Age and duration in role appear protective. Personal achievement is also protective and can mitigate earlier episodes of burn-out; opportunities for career progression are limited. Promoting personal well-being is beneficial. Senior managers have poor understanding of the role and provide inadequate support. Commitment to patients remains high. Conclusion Burn-out arises in CNSs across clinical specialisms in the international literature and has a significant negative effect on the workforce. Further research is needed to address the dearth of evidence on burn-out in IBD-CNSs in the UK.

Abstract
Background Burnout (BO) is a recognized challenge among the oncology workforce. It affects both genders with a higher frequency among women. This study examined the factors contributing to the development of burnout among female oncologists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Methods An online cross-sectional survey was distributed to oncology professionals from different countries in the MENA region. The validated Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) of emotional exhaustion (EE), Depersonalization (DE), and Personal Achievement (PA) plus questions about demography/work-related factors and attitudes toward oncology were included. Data were analyzed to measure BO prevalence and related factors. Results Between 10 February and 15 March 2020, 545 responses were submitted by female oncologists. The responses pre-dated the COVID-19 pandemic emergence in the region. BO prevalence was 71% among female professionals. Women aged <44 years represented 85% of the cohort. Sixty-two percent were married, 52% with children and one-third practiced a hobby. Two-thirds worked in medical oncology, worked for <10 years and 35% worked in academia. The majority (73%) spent >25% on administrative work daily. Nearly half of the respondents (49%) expressed a recurring thought of quitting oncology and 70% had no burnout support or education. Inability to deliver optimal care was reported as distressing for career development in 82%. Factors significantly influencing the BO risk were identified. Marital status, having children, academia and years in practice did not impact the risk of BO among female oncologists from MENA. Conclusion Female oncologists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) were found to have a high prevalence of BO. In this cohort, the majority of women oncology workers were young and in their early to mid-career stages. Burnout was linked to being younger, practicing in North African nations, having a heavy administrative load, and having persistent thoughts of quitting. Practicing a hobby and engaging in oncology communication, on the other hand, reduced the chance of BO. Burnout support and education, specifically for oncology women, is required.

Abstract
Health professionals, including nurses, are vulnerable to burnout, which occurs when chronic stress is not managed. COVID-19 led to nurses working in stressful environments, and being required to work mandatory overtime. The result was an increase in burnout. Nurses exhibited physical, psychological, emotional, and behavioral signs of burnout. There are several ways that nurses can mitigate the situation and have more control over burnout. Nurses need to work together to support each other, including supporting the leader. There are several actions, such as mindfulness activities and maintaining a healthy lifestyle that can help prevent burnout.

Abstract
Objective This cross-sectional study examined the prevalence and factors associated with compassion satisfaction and fatigue among oncology healthcare professionals (doctors and nurses) in mainland China. Methods A total of 337 subjects were recruited via convenience sampling from the oncology departments of five general hospitals in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. They were invited to complete a survey that included demographic characteristics, the Profession Quality of life Scale, the Brief Cope Questionnaire, and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale. Results The findings showed medium levels of compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress among oncology healthcare professionals in China, reaching rates of 78.34%, 63.50% and 75.96%, respectively. Multiple regression analyses suggested that active coping, positive reframing, and strength were the significant factors of compassion satisfaction, explaining 48.6% of the total variance (P < 0.001). Substance use and self-blame were the significant factors of burnout, explaining 45.1% of the total variance (P < 0.001). Venting, denial, substance use, self-blame, and strength were the significant factors of secondary traumatic stress, explaining 37.6% of the total variance (P < 0.001). Conclusions The high prevalence of compassion fatigue warrants the attention of the hospitals' senior management. The effective coping styles identified may be considered when developing strategies to improve the professional quality of life among oncology healthcare professionals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several factors at the individual- and work environment-level were suggested to correlate with emotional exhaustion development in nurses. AIM To explore nurses' perceived emotional exhaustion and associated factors by employing hierarchical modelling techniques. METHODS 1539 nurses completed the cross-sectional survey. Generalized Linear Mixed Model was performed to identify predictors of emotional exhaustion. RESULTS At the individual level, female gender, high workload and emotional job demands increased the risk of emotional exhaustion; instead, higher education, satisfaction with the role of follower, perceiving nursing profession as meaningful, feeling independent at work, and group closeness were protective factors. At the work environment level, hospital ward type did not affect emotional exhaustion. CONCLUSIONS Emotional exhaustion is largely influenced by ward culture and organizational policies, and to a lower extent by socio-demographic variables. Moreover, it emerges as an intrinsic risk of the nursing profession rather than being associated with the clinical area profile.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout syndrome (BOS) is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. This study aims to create the Korean version burnout syndrome scale (KBOSS) that conforms to WHO's definition of BOS and present the cut-off points for screening. METHODS We developed the KBOSS based on WHO's definition of BOS. An online survey was conducted through a specialized online research company. We recruited 444 workers for this research. The validity of the KBOSS was assessed using factor analysis and Pearson's correlation. The KBOSS reliability was assessed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The cut-off points for each of the three dimensions were derived using the upper quartile score. RESULTS The validity and reliability of the KBOSS were good. Regarding reliability, the scale's overall Cronbach's alpha was 0.813. Cronbach's alpha of each three-dimension was as follows: exhaustion, 0.916; cynicism, 0.865; and professional inefficacy, 0.819. The cut-off points of BOS three dimensions are exhaustion ≧ 21; cynicism ≧ 18; and inefficacy ≧ 15. CONCLUSION The developed questionnaire (KBOSS) can be a useful tool for screening of BOS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Burn out is high in oncology. We aim to evaluate the feasibility and identify the barriers for mindfulness implementation in oncology professionals. METHODS We conducted a pilot study in which voluntary oncology caregivers entered mindfulness workshops, and complete online questionnaires. We also conducted a qualitative study to better identify the practical reasons which hamper the implementation of mindfulness in oncology caregivers having refused to participate. RESULTS 83.3% of volunteers for the workshops were women, 60.00% (16/30) of caregivers completed the program. Caregivers' resistances to mindfulness practice were: a lack of availability and information, complex organisation with limited free time, and accept spending time to take care of themselves. CONCLUSIONS This work highlights the interest of mindfulness for caregivers in oncology, we have identified specific issues hindering the implementation of such technique which can be further investigated.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To develop a self-report scale to measure academic motivation among nursing students and to test its psychometric properties. METHODS a cross-sectional validation study with a convenience sample of nursing students (n=1,635) was performed. The Motivation Nursing Students Scale was developed; content, face, construct validity, hypothesis testing and reliability were evaluated. RESULTS The validity structure revealed a four-factor solution and the model reached a satisfactory fit (χ2=622.835 df=160, p<0.01, CFI=0.90, TLT=0.83, RMSEA=0.060 (90% [CI] 0.055-0.064, p=0.001, SRMR=0.067). The hypothesis testing was confirmed with a positive correlation of the academic self-efficacy with Introjected, Intrinsic motivation and a negative correlation with Amotivation. CONCLUSIONS We verified a link between academic self-efficacy and motivation. Both motivation and self-efficacy may increase academic achievement and the possibility for HEIs to degrees a number of students in line with demands.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Workplace burnout can result in negative consequences for clinicians and patients. We assessed burnout prevalence and sources among pediatric hematology/oncology inpatient nurses, ambulatory nurses, physicians (MDs), and advanced practice providers (APPs) by evaluating effects of job demands and involvement in patient safety events (PSEs). METHODS A cross-sectional survey (Maslach Burnout Inventory) measured emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index measured mental demand, physical demand, temporal demand, effort, and frustration. Relative weights analyses estimated the unique contributions of tasks and PSEs on burnout. Post hoc analyses evaluated open-response comments for burnout factors. RESULTS Burnout prevalence was 33%, 20%, 34%, and 33% in inpatient nurses, ambulatory nurses, and MD, and APPs, respectively (N = 481, response rate 69%). Reduced personal accomplishment was significantly higher in inpatient nurses than MDs and APPs. Job frustration was the most significant predictor of burnout across all four cohorts. Other significant predictors of burnout included temporal demand (nursing groups and MDs), effort (inpatient nurses and MDs), and PSE involvement (ambulatory nurses). Open-response comments identified time constraints, lack of administrator support, insufficient institutional support for self-care, and inadequate staffing and/or turnover as sources of frustration. CONCLUSIONS All four clinician groups reported substantial levels of burnout, and job demands predicted burnout. The body of knowledge on job stress and workplace burnout supports targeting organizational-level sources versus individual-level factors as the most effective prevention and reduction strategy. This study elaborates on this evidence by identifying structural drivers of burnout within a multidisciplinary context of pediatric hematology/oncology clinicians.

Abstract
Nursing is considered to be an at-risk profession of burnout due to daily exposure to difficult situations such as death and pain care. In addition, some units such as the intensive care unit (ICU), can be stressful due to high levels of morbidity and mortality and ethical dilemmas. Burnout causes a deterioration in quality of care, increasing the risk of mortality in patients due to poor performance and errors in the healthcare environment. The aim of this study was to analyse the levels, prevalence and related factors of burnout in ICU nurses. A systematic review and meta-analysis were carried out in the Medline, Scopus and CINAHL databases. Fifteen articles were found for the systematic review and four for the meta-analysis. With a sample of n = 1986 nurses, the meta-analytic estimate prevalence for high emotional exhaustion was 31% (95% CI, 8-59%), for high depersonalization was 18% (95% CI, 8-30%), and for low personal accomplishment was 46% (95% CI, 20-74%). Within the dimensions of burnout, emotional exhaustion had a significant relationship with depression and personality factors. Both sociodemographic factors (being younger, single marital status, and having less professional experience in ICU) and working conditions (workload and working longer hours) influence the risk of burnout syndrome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oncology nurses are at increased risk for developing burnout. Although various interventions have been researched, mindfulness has been proven to be beneficial in mitigating burnout while improving well-being. OBJECTIVES The aim was to evaluate whether the use of a mindfulness mobile application (app), Headspace®, increases perceptions of well-being and decreases perceptions of burnout among inpatient bone marrow transplantation (BMT) staff nurses and nurse practitioners (NPs). METHODS This evidence-based practice quality improvement initiative introduced the Headspace app to BMT nurses and evaluated its impact on burnout and well-being at baseline and every 30 days for 90 days. FINDINGS There were significant improvements in burnout and well-being in staff nurses and NPs from baseline to each time point. Sleep hygiene meditations were the most widely used programs within the Headspace app for both nursing groups.

Abstract
Background There is a high prevalence of moderate-to-high levels of chronic stress among nurses, as well as an occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders. Purpose To evaluate the effectiveness of chair massage to reduce chronic stress and musculoskeletal pain in the Oncology Nursing team. Setting Two teaching cancer hospitals, one public and the other private, in São Paulo city, Brazil. Participants A total of 60 women from the Oncology Nursing team. Research Design A randomized controlled trial divided into two groups: chair massage and control without intervention. Intervention The massage group received two chair massage sessions lasting 15 minutes, twice a week, for three weeks. Main Outcome Measure Reduction of stress and pain measured by the List of Signs and Symptoms (LSS) and the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), respectively. Results The average age was 32 (± 5.3) years. There was a reduction of stress measured by the LSS with a statistical difference in the group-time interaction (p < .001), with a Cohen’s d value of 1.21 between groups. The BPI analysis showed a statistically significant difference in the group-time interaction for general activity (p < .008), mood (p < .03), work (p < .000), and sleep (p = .03), with reduced pain interference in these components. Conclusion Chair massage reduced stress and pain interference in the team’s daily life activities, bringing a positive impact in the context of work stress and pain in Oncology nursing professionals.

Abstract
Background Burnout remains a huge public health problem among nurses. Methods A cross-sectional descriptive study assessed 259 nurses from two Neuropsychiatric hospitals in Nigeria. Data was collected using a sociodemographic/ job related questionnaire, the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and the Short-Form health survey (SF-12). The associations between sociodemographic characteristic and burnout was anaysed using Chi square test, between burnout and quality of life using Spearman correlation statistics. Predictors of burnout were determined using binary regression analysis Results Prevalence of emotional exhaustion (EE) was 44.4%, depersonalization (DEP) 31.7% and reduced personal accomplishment was 98.8%. Predictors of EE were: poor funding from management, OR = 0.38 (95% CI 0.15–0.95) and role conflict, OR = 2.44 (95% CI 1.03–5.78), while the predictors of DEP, were age group, 31–40 years, OR = 0.37 (95% CI 0.18–0.77), male gender, OR = 2.55 (95% CI 1.40–4.65), role conflict, OR = 6.53 (95% CI 0.88–7.81) and working at more urban city, OR = 3.07 (95% CI 1.54–6.16). The mean total Quality of life (QOL) scores were significantly higher among respondents who had no EE and DEP p < 0.001. Conclusion Burnout is high among mental health nurses and is associated with poor quality of life.

Abstract
With the COVID-19 pandemic quieting, at least in the United States, we are perhaps entering a time where future orientation and goal direction can begin to reenter our work and personal lives. However, there are impressions that we carry forward from 2020, individually and collectively, including perspectives of political unrest; the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and others by law enforcement agents; and the deaths of millions of individuals across the world from a novel coronavirus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout is a syndrome that mostly affects professionals working in contact with patients and their caregivers. In oncology care, nursing professionals are constantly required to provide emotional support for patients and their caregivers, throughout the process of becoming ill, suffering and dying. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prevalence and factors associated with burnout in a sample of nursing professionals at a cancer hospital. DESIGN AND SETTING Cross-sectional study conducted at Hospital de Câncer de Barretos. METHODS The study population comprised 655 nursing professionals. Burnout syndrome was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory Human Service Survey. Univariate analysis and binary logistic regression models were used to identify independent predictors associated with burnout. RESULTS Among 304 nursing professionals included in the study, 27 (8.9%) were classified as presenting burnout according to the two-dimensional criteria, and four (1.3%) were classified based on the three-dimensional criteria. Workplace characteristics were not associated with burnout, while single marital status (odds ratio, OR = 2.695; P = 0.037), perceived workplace stressors, such as impatience with colleagues (OR = 3.996; P = 0.007) and melancholy (OR = 2.840; P = 0.021) were considered to be predictors of burnout. Nursing professionals who would choose the profession again (OR = 0.214; P = 0.001) were least likely to present burnout. CONCLUSION Perceived workplace stressors are strongly associated with burnout. Strategies focusing on restructuring of daily work processes and on activities that stimulate positive relationships are important for professionals' health because motivation to continue working in oncology nursing has a protective effect against burnout.

Abstract
Optimizing the well-being of the oncology clinician has never been more important. Well-being is a critical priority for the cancer organization because burnout adversely impacts the quality of care, patient satisfaction, the workforce, and overall practice success. To date, 45% of U.S. ASCO member medical oncologists report experiencing burnout symptoms of emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. As the COVID-19 pandemic remains widespread with periods of outbreaks, recovery, and response with substantial personal and professional consequences for the clinician, it is imperative that the oncologist, team, and organization gain direct access to resources addressing burnout. In response, the Clinician Well-Being Task Force was created to improve the quality, safety, and value of cancer care by enhancing oncology clinician well-being and practice sustainability. Well-being is an integrative concept that characterizes quality of life and encompasses an individual's work- and personal health-related environmental, organizational, and psychosocial factors. These resources can be useful for the cancer organization to develop a well-being blueprint: a detailed start plan with recognized strategies and interventions targeting all oncology stakeholders to support a culture of community in oncology.
