Abstract
AIM To synthesize and interpret existing qualitative research on the existential experiences of siblings of children with complex care needs. DESIGN Noblit and Hare's interpretive meta-ethnography. METHODS The study has been registered in the international prospective register for systematic reviews (PROSPERO). Noblit and Hare's 7-step procedure was followed and reciprocal translation was performed to analyse the data and develop a line of argument synthesis. DATA SOURCES A comprehensive systematic literature search of five databases, along with extensive manual searches, was completed in November 2022. The final sample comprised 18 studies published between 2010 and 2022. RESULTS A line of argument, expressed through an overarching metaphor, "balancing on life's ladder", illustrates the core findings of siblings' fluctuating experiences of existential well-being, and encapsulates four third-order themes: the emotional turmoil of siblings, interrupted family life, siblings strive to be themselves and siblings struggle to cope. CONCLUSION Growing up with a sibling with complex care needs made children feel invisible, lonely and struggling to find the courage to cope. By adopting a lifeworld approach, nurses can become aware of healthy siblings' unmet needs. Future research is needed on how nurses can contribute to siblings' existential well-being, in primary - and secondary health care settings. IMPLICATIONS The study provides insight into siblings' existential experiences and factors improving their well-being, enabling nurses to provide a more optimized lifeworld-led clinical practice. IMPACT Healthcare, nursing education and practice should be informed by the knowledge of existential issues. Nurses are well-positioned to work alongside families to provide family-centered care. Our findings have implications for health policies tailored to the needs of children with chronically ill siblings. REPORTING METHOD This review adheres to the Equator and improving reporting of meta-ethnography (eMERGe) guidelines. Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to build a model combining some variables that have been previously studied separately to improve our understanding on how they relate in parents of children with cancer. A total of 112 parents with an average age of 41 completed the self-assessment questionnaires containing the factors studied: social support received, social support provided, stress, adjustment of parents and life satisfaction. Two models were developed: one for social support received and one for social support provided. Structural equation models based on the variance estimated through partial least squares were used to analyze factors involved in quality of life based on an exploratory model of second order. The estimated model was robust in terms of quality of measurement (reliability and validity). According to results from the structural model, in the model of social support received, the impact of social support received on stress was considerable (β = -0.26; p = 0.02) and it explained 16% of the variance. The impact of social support received by parents on their adjustment (β = -0.56; p < 0.001) was also considerable, explaining 32% of the variance. Finally, adjustment of parents also showed an effect on life satisfaction (β = -0.33; p < 0.001) and it explained 26% of the variance. However, the relation between social support received (β = 0.15; p = 0.11) and life satisfaction, the relation between stress (β = -0.15; p = 0.08) and life satisfaction, and the relation between adjustment of parents (β = 0.20; p = 0.07) and stress were not significant. In the model of social support provided by parents, social support provided (β = 0.35; p < 0.001), and adjustment of parents (β = -0.31; p < 0.01) impacted life satisfaction, explaining 36% of the variance. Social support provided (β = -0.34; p < 0.01) impacted adjustment of parents and it explained 12% of the variance. Adjustment of parents (β = 0.28; p < 0.05) also impacted parents' perception of stress, explaining 14% of the variance. However, the relation between social support provided (β = -0.17; p = 0.06) and stress, and the relation between stress (β = -0.13; p = 0.08) and life satisfaction, were not significant. Social support received showed a strong connection with stress and parents' adjustment. Additionally, social support received showed a decrease in stress and parents' adjustment. Social support provided by parents and the adjustments they experience are linked to their life satisfaction. Additionally, social support provided showed a decrease in adjustment and an increase in parents' life satisfaction. The models can be used to improve parents' situations and it has strong practical implications.

Abstract
Introduction The present study aims at analysing how social support received and provided by parents of children, adolescents and young adults (AYA) diagnosed with cancer, as well as their sociodemographic and clinical variables, affect those parents’ stress levels and life and family satisfaction. Materials and Methods A total of 112 parents of children and AYAs who had been diagnosed with cancer and who received treatment in Malaga participated in the study. In the study, participated all parents who voluntarily agreed to fulfil the questionnaire. The main inclusion criterion was that their child had cancer. Instruments used were Questionnaire on the Frequency of and Satisfaction with Social Support (QFSSS), Paediatric Inventory for Parents (PIP), Life Satisfaction Scale and Family Satisfaction Scale. Results In the mean difference analyses, male parents showed 3.38 (SD = 0.56) in social support received and female parents showed M = 3.08 (SD = 0.72). Conversely, in social support provided, female parents showed 3.22 and male parents showed M = 3.55 (p = 0.020). Significant differences were also found in family satisfaction, where female parents (M = 3.64) feel more satisfied than male parents (M = 3.06; p = 0.027). Parents of children aged between 0 and 14 years (M = 3.06) feel more stress than those parents of children aged 15–21 (M = 2.61; p = 0.021). The correlation analysis shows that there is a negative and significant relation between stress levels experienced by parents when facing different situations related to the child’s disease and both types of support, received r = −0.411, p < 0.001 and provided r = −0.282, p < 0.01. There is also a positive and significant relation between life satisfaction and social support received r = 0.292, p < 0.01, and social support provided r = 0.409, p < 0.001. There is a positive and significant relation between family satisfaction and social support received r = 0.330, p < 0.01, in the same way as with social support provided r = 0.222, p < 0.05. The regression analysis related to stress levels of parents indicates that social support received predicts levels of stress significantly p < 0.001, with the variable of number of children being the one that showed to be significant p < 0.05. Social support provided showed the most significant results p = 0.001, meaning that social support provided increased life satisfaction. Social support received explains family satisfaction (p = 0.50), as it increases the family satisfaction of parents of children with cancer. Discussion Analysing social support received and provided, as well as sociodemographic and clinical variables, allowed us to broaden the knowledge on the effect social support has on stress levels, life satisfaction and family satisfaction in parents of children and AYAs diagnosed with cancer. This may have relevant practical implications for the design of interventions that would improve parents’ lives.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a chronic, life-threatening condition that results in life-long morbidity and premature mortality. CF has a significant impact on healthy siblings' adaptation and well-being. Siblings of patients with a chronic disease may experience psychological difficulties, such as anxiety, depression symptoms and troubles in adaptation. This study aimed to explore the participants' experiences of growing up with a CF patient diagnosed at a paediatric age and their adaptation strategies. METHODS We enrolled eight CF siblings (adolescents and young adults) in a 6-month focus group sessions programme. Each session had two phases (psychoeducational and experiential). Transcripts were analysed and grouped through grounded theory analysis to elaborate on data-driven theory. RESULTS We identified 14 subthemes by which the raw data could be organized. All the subthemes were gathered together according to the axial coding process into six themes (illness, changes, communication, avoidance, normalization, and protection and care). We then grouped the six themes into two main themes ('Growing up with a CF brother or sister' and 'Finding the right distance') and conceptualized the grounded theory 'Keeping the right distance'. The participants described the evolving process of maintaining a balance between the illness of their brother or sister, family organization and their own needs. CONCLUSIONS Knowing siblings' experiences and their common strategies to deal with the experience of having a brother or sister with a chronic health condition may be useful to ensure more tailored and specific interventions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Families affected by childhood cancer need to adapt either temporarily or permanently. This study identifies variables that influence this adaption in positive or negative ways by presenting a classic grounded theory. METHODS This inductive, qualitative study included 69 childhood cancer patients, 39 siblings, 42 parents, and 24 childhood cancer survivors from 104 families. RESULTS The families enter a social process after diagnosis characterized by either shuttling between the well-known and the new or being in a situation with both aspects. The extent depends on the stage of the treatment (initial phase, during treatment, or the end of the course of treatment) and on four variables: (1) the diagnosis and prognosis; (2) the course of the disease, including duration of treatment or hospitalizations, and separation from the remaining family; (3) the child's current state, including symptoms, hospitalizations, and current risk of death or relapse; and (4) whether previous and current needs have been met. CONCLUSIONS These variables offer a possible explanation of insufficient coping strategies, and they should be used to identify potentially vulnerable families. The dynamic of the variables imply that families should be reevaluated during each of the three phases, as the risk of changes to the family's everyday life may increase and therefore their needs may also change.

Abstract
Objetivo: El presente estudio se plantea como objetivo principal analizar cómo la resiliencia de los padres de niños diagnosticados con enfermedad oncológica influye en la percepción de estrés y en la satisfacción vital. Metodología: Participaron 112 padres de niños con patología oncológica que recibían tratamiento en Málaga. Los datos fueron recogidos a través de medidas de autoinforme. Resultados: Existe una relación significativa y negativa entre la resiliencia y el estrés percibido, y una relación significativa y positiva entre la resiliencia y la satisfacción vital. En el estudio por dimensiones de la resiliencia y el estrés, la competencia personal de los padres disminuye el estrés R2 = 0,24; F = 12,12; p<0,0001 y la dimensión de la resiliencia aceptación de uno mismo aumenta la satisfacción vital R2 = 0,42; F = 31,24; p<0,0001. Conclusiones: El análisis de la resiliencia a través de sus dimensiones ha permitido conocer el papel que tiene sobre el estrés y la satisfacción vital de los padres con niños con cáncer. Estos resultados pueden tener importantes implicaciones prácticas en el diseño de las intervenciones que mejoren su calidad de vida.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Social support is essential in healthy adjustment to life stressors. This scoping review examines how social support has been conceptualized, operationalized, and studied among siblings of children with cancer. Gaps in the current literature are identified, and future research directions are proposed. METHODS A rigorous systematic scoping review framework guided our process. Medline, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Scopus were searched for literature regarding social support and siblings of children with cancer. After screening, 57 articles were identified (n = 26 quantitative, n = 21 qualitative, and n = 10 multi-method) and their content extracted for summarization. RESULTS The majority of studies (n = 43, 75.4%) were descriptive; 14 (24.6%) included interventions, and of those, four were experimental. Few studies used a clearly defined theoretical framework, or validated tools to measure social support. Studies explored perceived social support needs of siblings, the provision and availability of formal support through interventions and related outcomes, and informal family social supports. A variety of support types were found to be helpful to siblings in different ways. CONCLUSIONS Social support is a prevalent topic in the literature regarding siblings of children with cancer. It is unclear what types of support are most important due to how it has been conceptualized and measured. Despite some methodological limitations, greater levels of social support have been linked to better adaptation among siblings of children with cancer. Future work is warranted to identify the most beneficial types of support for siblings based on their age, developmental stage, and the cancer trajectory.

Abstract
Photovoice was employed as a clinical intervention to engage siblings of children with cancer, provide opportunity for sibling support, and elicit information about their lived experiences. Sibling support groups have been effective, however, none have utilized this intervention. Four teenagers who had a sibling diagnosed with cancer participated in a seven-week intervention group. Themes were identified to inform future clinical practice. Four main themes included: (i) support, (ii) changes, (iii) feelings, and (iv) Photovoice group experience. Photovoice, used as a clinical intervention, elicited valuable information and generated fruitful conversations, enabling siblings to relate to and learn from one another.

Abstract
Background All healthcare professionals working with children should have a child-centred perspective, and should be responsive to children and adolescents who want to talk about their thoughts and feelings. The child's or adolescent's story is the starting point for mutual understanding between them and the healthcare professional, and is the basis for shared decision-making between patients and healthcare professionals in child-centred care. Aim To advance understanding of how Swedish children and adolescents with cancer perceived the effects of the disease and its treatment on their everyday life. Method Ten girls and five boys, aged between five and 18 years, with cancer were interviewed individually using four communication tools. The interviews lasted between 20 and 65 minutes and took place without their parents present. The data were analysed using content analysis. Findings Transition to an unpredictable everyday life was identified as a main theme, with five subthemes: struggling with side effects of the cancer and its treatment; treatment as an 'emotional rollercoaster'; changed self and being vulnerable; changed social life; and concerns about academic achievement. Conclusion To provide effective support and care for children and adolescents with cancer, healthcare professionals should strive to listen to them and focus on their perspectives.
