Rare-Earth-Based Metal-Organic Frameworks as Multifunctional Platforms for Catalytic Conversion

Phase-Stabilized Nickel-Molybdenum Electrocatalyst by Samarium Doping for Hydrogen Evolution in Alkaline Water Electrolysis

Although the nickel-molybdenum electrocatalyst exhibits excellent activity in the alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), its stability is poor mainly due to molybdenum leaching. This work reports that doping samarium into nickel-molybdenum electrocatalyst effectively suppresses molybdenum leaching by forming a stable phase consisting of Sm, Mo, and O elements. The resulting electrode displays no noticeable activity degradation during the long-term testing (> 850 h) under a current density of 500 mA cm-2 in 1 м KOH. This enhanced stability is ascribed to the formation of a robust phase within the HER potential windows in alkaline electrolytes, as evidenced by the Pourbaix diagram. Furthermore, the samarium-modified electrocatalyst exhibits increased activity, with the overpotential decreasing by ≈59 mV from 159 to 100 mV at 500 mA cm-2 compared to the unmodified counterpart. These remarkable properties stem from samarium doping, which not only facilitates the formation of a stable phase to inhibit molybdenum leaching but also adjusts the electronic properties of molybdenum to enhance water dissociation.

Two 2D Metal-Organic Frameworks Based on Purine Carboxylic Acid Ligands for Photocatalytic Oxidation of Sulfides and CO2 Chemical Fixation

Two two-dimensional (2D) layered metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), namely, {[Yb(L)(H2O)2NO3]·2H2O}n (Yb-MOF) and [Er(L)(H2O)3Cl]n (Er-MOF) (H2L = 5-((6H-purin-6-yl)amino)isophthalic acid), were constructed by a solvothermal method and characterized. The catalytic performance study showed that the Yb-MOF could efficiently catalyze the oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides under 15 W light-emitting diode (LED) blue light irradiation. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy and free-radical trapping experiments demonstrated that the photocatalytic reaction process involved •O2-, and the corresponding mechanism was proposed. Moreover, Er-MOF exhibited good catalytic efficiency and excellent substrate tolerance in the cycloaddition reaction of CO2, and the reaction conditions were mild. After 5 cycles, the catalytic activities of two MOFs did not significantly decrease, and the framework structures remained unchanged. Therefore, the Yb-MOF and Er-MOF were considered efficient and stable heterogeneous catalysts.

Hollow CoP/carbon as an efficient catalyst for the peroxymonosulfate activation derived from phytic acid assisted metal-organic framework

The catalyst's composition and rationally designed structure is significantly interlinked with its performance for wastewater remediation. Here, a novel hollow cobalt phosphides/carbon (HCoP/C) as an efficient catalyst for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) was prepared. The ZIF-67 was synthesized first, followed by phytic acid (PA) etching and then heat treatment was used to get HCoP/C. The PA was used as an etching agent and a source of phosphorus to prepare HCoP/C. To analyze catalytic performance, another solid cobalt phosphides/carbon (SCoP/C) catalyst was prepared for comparison. In contrast to SCoP/C, the HCoP/C exhibited higher catalytic efficiency when used to activate PMS to degrade Bisphenol A (BPA). The results showed that about 98 % of targeted pollutant BPA was removed from the system in 6 min with a rate constant of 0.78 min-1, which was 4 times higher than the solid structure catalyst. The higher catalytic performance of HCoP/C is attributed to its hollow structure. In the study, other parameters such as BPA concentration, temperature, pH, and different catalyst amount were also tested. Moreover, the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and radical quenching analysis confirmed that sulfate radicals were dominant in the HCoP/C/PMS system.

A Bifunctional Three-Dimensional Zn(II) Metal-Organic Framework with Strong Luminescence and Adsorption Cr(VI) Properties

The mixed ligand 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole (Hatz) and terephthalic acid (H2pta) reacted with Zn(NO3)2·6H2O to synthesize a three-dimensional binuclear Zn(II) metal-organic framework: {[Zn2·(atz)2·(pta)]·3H2O}n (3D-Zn-MOF). This 3D-Zn-MOF has two different types of pores (4.5 × 4.5 Å2, 5.7 × 5.7 Å2). The crystalline 3D-Zn-MOF could be prepared into nanomaterials (3D-N-Zn-MOF) with particles of approximately 100 nm by a cell fragmentation apparatus. Compared with the solid-state luminescence of Hatz and H2pta, it was found that 3D-N-Zn-MOF exhibited strong luminescence performance and significant red-shift phenomenon. Due to the decrease in electronegativity and rigidity of ligands, as well as the effect of ligand metal charge transfer (LMCT), the fluorescence lifetime and quantum yield of 3D-ZN-N-MOF were 2.7241 ns and 3.02%, respectively. The maximum experimental adsorption capacity of 3D-N-Zn-MOF could reach 125.52 mg/g, which was superior to the majority of MOF adsorbents under the optimal adsorption conditions (25 °C, pH = 7, and the adsorbent concentration is 0.2000 g/L). The thermodynamic analysis of adsorption showed that the adsorption of Cr(VI) by 3D-N-Zn-MOF was a spontaneous (△G < 0) and exothermic (△H < 0) process. It could be found that 3D-N-Zn-MOF was a bifunctional material with potential applications by comprehensive analysis of the fluorescence and adsorption Cr(VI) performance.

A Coordination-Derived Cerium-Based Amorphous-Crystalline Heterostructure with High Electrocatalytic Oxygen Evolution Activity

The rational design of heterogeneous catalysts is crucial for achieving optimal physicochemical properties and high electrochemical activity. However, the development of new amorphous-crystalline heterostructures is significantly more challenging than that of the existing crystalline-crystalline heterostructures. To overcome these issues, a coordination-assisted strategy that can help fabricate an amorphous NiO/crystalline NiCeOx (a-NiO/c-NiCeOx ) heterostructure is reported herein. The coordination geometry of the organic ligands plays a pivotal role in permitting the formation of coordination polymers with high Ni contents. This consequently provides an opportunity for enabling the supersaturation of Ni in the NiCeOx structure during annealing, leading to the endogenous spillover of Ni from the depths of NiCeOx to its surface. The resulting heterostructure, featuring strongly coupled amorphous NiO and crystalline NiCeOx , exhibits harmonious interactions in addition to low overpotentials and high catalytic stability in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Theoretical calculations prove that the amorphous-crystalline interfaces facilitate charge transfer, which plays a critical role in regulating the local electron density of the Ni sites, thereby promoting the adsorption of oxygen-based intermediates on the Ni sites and lowering the dissociation-related energy barriers. Overall, this study underscores the potential of coordinating different metal ions at the molecular level to advance amorphous-crystalline heterostructure design.

Interface engineering induced charge rearrangement boosting reversible oxygen electrocatalysis activity of heterogeneous FeCo-MnO@N-doped carbon nanobox

The advancement of bifunctional oxygen catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is imperative yet challenging for the optimization of Zn-air batteries. In this study, we reported the successful incorporation of a novel Mott-Schottky catalytic site within a MnO-FeCo heterojunction into an N-doping carbon nanobox, taking into consideration the effects of the intrinsic electric field and hollow/porous support carriers for electrocatalyst design. As expected, the resulting heterogeneous catalyst exhibited an encouraging half-wave potential of 0.88 V and an impressive limiting-current density of 5.62 mA/cm2 for the ORR, as well as a minimal overpotential of 271 mV at 10 mA/cm2 for the OER, both in alkaline conditions. Furthermore, the Zn-air battery constructed with the heterojunction nanobox product displayed a decent potential gap of 0.621 V, an outstanding power density of 253 mW/cm2, a considerable specific capacity of 761 mAh/gZn, and exceptional stability, with up to 336 h of cycling charging and discharging operation. Consequently, this method of modulating the catalyst's surface charge distribution through an internal electric field at the interface and facilitating mass transport offers a novel avenue for the development of robust bifunctional oxygen catalysts.

Rare-Earth-Modified Metal-Organic Frameworks and Derivatives for Photo/Electrocatalysis

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and their derivatives have attracted much attention in the field of photo/electrocatalysis owing to their ultrahigh porosity, tunable properties, and superior coordination ability. Regulating the valence electronic structure and coordination environment of MOFs is an effective way to enhance their intrinsic catalytic performance. Rare earth (RE) elements with 4f orbital occupancy provide an opportunity to evoke electron rearrangement, accelerate charged carrier transport, and synergize the surface adsorption of catalysts. Therefore, the integration of RE with MOFs makes it possible to optimize their electronic structure and coordination environment, resulting in enhanced catalytic performance. In this review, progress in current research on the use of RE-modified MOFs and their derivatives for photo/electrocatalysis is summarized and discussed. First, the theoretical advantages of RE in MOF modification are introduced, with a focus on the roles of 4f orbital occupancy and RE ion organic coordination ligands. Then, the application of RE-modified MOFs and their derivatives in photo/electrocatalysis is systematically discussed. Finally, research challenges, future opportunities, and prospects for RE-MOFs are also discussed.

Heteroatom-Driven Coordination Fields Altering Single Cerium Atom Sites for Efficient Oxygen Reduction Reaction

For current single-atom catalysts (SACs), modulating the coordination environments of rare-earth (RE) single atoms with complex electronic orbital and flexible chemical states is still limited. Herein, cerium (Ce) SAs supported on a P, S, and N co-doped hollow carbon substrate (Ce SAs/PSNC) for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are reported. The as-prepared Ce SAs/PSNC possesses a half-wave potential of 0.90 V, a turnover frequency value of 52.2 s-1 at 0.85 V, and excellent stability for the ORR, which exceeds the commercial Pt/C and most recent SACs. Ce SAs/PSNC-based liquid zinc-air batteries (ZABs) exhibit a high and stable open-circuit voltage of 1.49 V and a maximum power density of 212 mW cm-2 . As the catalyst of the air cathode, it also displays remarkable performance in flexible electronic devices. Theoretical calculations reveal that the introduction of S and P sites induces significant electronic modulations to the Ce SA active sites. The P and S dopings promote the electroactivity of Ce SAs and improve the overall site-to-site electron transfer within the Ce SAs/PSNC. This work offers a unique perspective for modulating RE-based SACs in a complex coordination environment toward superior electrocatalysis and broad applications in energy conversion and storage devices.

Laves phase Ir2Sm intermetallic nanoparticles as a highly active electrocatalyst for acidic oxygen evolution reaction

Rare earth (RE) intermetallic nanoparticles (NPs) are significant for fundamental explorations and promising for practical applications in electrocatalysis. However, they are difficult to synthesize because of the unusually low reduction potential and extremely high oxygen affinity of RE metal-oxygen bonds. Herein, intermetallic Ir₂Sm NPs were firstly synthesized on graphene as a superior acidic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst. It was verified that intermetallic Ir₂Sm is a new phase belonging to the C15 cubic MgCu₂ type in the Laves phase family. Meanwhile, intermetallic Ir₂Sm NPs achieved a mass activity of 1.24 A mg_Ir^-1 at 1.53 V and stability of 120 h at 10 mA cm^-2 in 0.5 M H₂SO₄ electrolyte, which corresponds to a 5.6-fold and 12-fold enhancement relative to Ir NPs. Experimental results together with density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that in the structurally ordered intermetallic Ir₂Sm NPs, the alloying of Sm with Ir atoms modulates the electronic nature of Ir, thereby reducing the binding energy of the oxygen-based intermediate, resulting in faster kinetics and enhanced OER activity. This study provides a new perspective for the rational design and practical application of high-performance RE alloy catalysts.

Spin-Selective Coupling in Mott-Schottky Er2 O3 -Co Boosts Electrocatalytic Oxygen Reduction

Alkaline oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is critical to electrochemical energy conversion technology, yet the rational breaking of thermodynamic inhibition for ORR through spin regulation remains a challenge. Herein, a Mott-Schottky catalyst consisting of Er₂ O₃ -Co particles uniformly implanted into carbon nanofibers (Er₂ O₃ -Co/CNF) is designed for enhancing ORR via spin-selective coupling. The optimized Er₂ O₃ -Co/CNF affords a high half-wave potential (0.835 V vs reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE) and onset potential (0.989 V_RHE ) for the ORR surpassing individual Co/CNF and Er₂ O₃ /CNF. Theoretical calculations reveal the introduction of Er₂ O₃ optimizes the electronic structure of Co through Er(4f)-O(2p)-Co(3d) gradient orbital coupling, resulting in significantly enhanced ORR performance. Through gradient orbital coupling, the induced spin-up hole in Co 3d states endows the Er-O-Co unit active site with a spin-selective coupling channel for electron transition. This favors the decrease of the energy gap in the potential-limiting step, thus achieving a high theoretical limiting potential of 0.77 V_RHE for the Er₂ O₃ -Co. Moreover, the potential practicability of Er₂ O₃ -Co/CNF as an air-cathode is also demonstrated in Zn-air batteries. This work is believed to provide, new perspectives for the design of efficient ORR electrocatalysts by engineering spin-selective coupling induced by rare-earth oxides.

Robust acid-base Ln-MOFs: searching for efficient catalysts in cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides and cascade deacetalization-Knoevenagel reactions

A family of microporous and robust Ln(iii)-based metal-organic frameworks (1-Ln, Ln = Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Yb) have been obtained using 4,4',4''-nitrilotribenzoic acid (H₃NTB) in NMP-HCl solvent. Both single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analyses demonstrate that 1-Ln are isostructural and possess 3D frameworks with permanent porosity for Ar and CO₂ adsorption. Strikingly, the incorporation of both Lewis acidic lanthanide ions and the basic triphenylamine group into 1-Ln makes them efficient acid-base catalysts for both cycloaddition of epoxides with CO₂ and one-pot cascade deacetalization-Knoevenagel reactions. The systematic catalytic studies show that 1-Tb and 1-Yb possess the best catalytic activities for both reactions, indicating the catalytic activities of these Ln-MOFs are strongly dependent on metal Lewis acid sites embedded in the frameworks.

Variable Dimensionality of Europium(III) and Terbium(III) Coordination Compounds with a Flexible Hexacarboxylate Ligand

A reaction between 4,4',4″-(benzene-1,3,5-triyltris(oxy))triphthalic acid (H₆L) and lanthanide(III) nitrates (Ln = Eu³⁺, Tb³⁺) in water under the same conditions gave a molecular coordination compound [Tb(H_4.5L)₂(H₂O)₅]∙6H₂O in the case of terbium(III) and a one-dimensional linear coordination polymer {[Eu₂(H₃L)₂(H₂O)₆]∙8H₂O}_n in the case of europium(III). The crystal structures of both compounds were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and they were further characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The compounds demonstrated characteristic lanthanide-centered photoluminescence. The lanthanide-dependent dimensionality of the synthesized compounds, which are the first examples of the coordination compounds of hexacarboxylic acid H₆L demonstrates its potential as a linker for new coordination polymers.

Engineering a Series of Isoreticular Pillared Layer Ultramicroporous MOFs for Gas and Vapor Uptake

The accurate design and systematic engineering of MOFs is a large challenge due to the randomness of the synthesis process. Isoreticular chemistry provides a powerful approach for the regulation of pore environment in a more predictable and precise way to systematically control gas/vapor adsorption performances. Herein, utilizing an effective strategy of altering the "pillared" motifs of pillared layer structures, three isoreticular ultramicroporous MOFs were successfully constructed. Combined with the reported parent MOFs and two other recorded isoreticular MOFs modified with -NH₂ and -CH₃, gas and vapor uptake performances of this family of isoreticular pillared layer MOFs were systematically explored.

Electrochemiluminescent (ECL) biosensor for Burkholderia pseudomallei based on cobalt-doped MOF decorated with gold nanoparticles and N-(4-aminobutyl)-N-(ethylisoluminol)

A multifunctional catalytic nanomaterial (Co-MOF@AuNP@ABEI) composed of cobalt-doped metal-organic frameworks (Co-MOF), gold nanoparticles (AuNP), and N-(4-aminobutyl)-N-(ethylisoluminol) (ABEI) is reported. Co-MOF@AuNP@ABEI exhibits high synergistic and zero-distance catalytic properties, which are beneficial to the improvement of the detection sensitivity of an electrochemiluminescent (ECL) biosensor. After coupling with the ECL system and 3D magnetic walking nanomachine amplification strategy, the Co-MOF@AuNP@ABEI can achieve an ultrasensitive ECL assay of Burkholderia pseudomallei with the limit of detection (LOD) of 60.3 aM, which is 2 and 4 orders of magnitude lower than individual ECL system without the nanomachine (4.97 fM) and individual walking nanomachine (340 fM), and superior to the pathogenic bacteria analyses in the previous report. Moreover, the LOD of the proposed ECL detection system for the determination of B. pseudomallei in serum sample was as low as 9.0 CFU mL^-1. The relative standard deviations (RSD) of ECL intensity for the detection of five B. pseudomallei-spiked serum samples were 4.02%, 0.84%, 0.84%, 1.55%, and 0.21%, respectively. The recoveries of the ECL biosensor for the detection of B. pseudomallei DNA-spiked serum samples were 93.63 ~ 107.83%. Therefore, this work demonstrated that the developed multifunctional catalytic nanomaterial with synergistic and zero-distance catalytic properties can be used as excellent ECL signal reporter to improve the detection sensitivity of ECL biosensor.

Nanoporous {Y2}-Organic Frameworks for Excellent Catalytic Performance on the Cycloaddition Reaction of Epoxides with CO2 and Deacetalization-Knoevenagel Condensation

Stable metal-organic frameworks containing periodically arranged nanosized pores and active Lewis acid-base active sites are considered as ideal candidates for efficient heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, the exquisite combination of [Y₂(CO₂)₇(H₂O)₂] cluster (abbreviated as {Y₂}) and multifunctional linker of 2,4,6-tri(2,4-dicarboxyphenyl)pyridine (H₆TDP) led to a nanoporous framework of {[Y₂(TDP)(H₂O)₂]·5H₂O·4DMF}_n (NUC-53, NUC = North University of China), which is a rarely reported binuclear three-dimensional (3D) framework with hierarchical tetragonal-microporous (0.78 nm) and octagonal-nanoporous (1.75 nm) channels. The inner walls of these channels are aligned by {Y₂} clusters and plentifully coexisted Lewis acid-base sites of Y^III ions and N_pyridine atoms. Furthermore, NUC-53 has a quite large void volume of ∼65.2%, which is significantly higher than most documented 3D rare-earth-based MOFs. The performed catalytic experiments exhibited that activated NUC-53 showed a high catalytic activity on the cycloaddition reactions of CO₂ with styrene oxide under mild conditions with excellent turnover number (TON: 1980) and turnover frequency (TOF: 495 h^-1). Moreover, the deacetalization-Knoevenagel condensation reactions of benzaldehyde dimethyl acetal and malononitrile could be efficiently prompted by the heterogeneous catalyst of NUC-53. These findings not only pave the way for the construction of nanoporous MOF based on rare-earth clusters with a variety of catalytic activities but also provide some new insights into the catalytic mechanism.

A Novel Cerium(IV)-Based Metal-Organic Framework for CO2 Chemical Fixation and Photocatalytic Overall Water Splitting

Cerium (IV)-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are highly desirable due to their unique potential in fields such as redox catalysis and photocatalysis. However, due to the high reduction potential of Ce^IV species in solution, it is still a great challenge to synthesize Ce^IV -MOFs with novel structures, which are extremely dominated by the hexanuclear Ce-O cluster inorganic building units (IBUs). Herein, a Ce-O IBU chain containing Ce^IV -MOF, CSUST-3 (CSUST: Changsha University of Science and Technology), was successfully prepared using the kinetic stabilization study of UiO-66(Ce)-NDC (H₂ NDC=2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid). Furthermore, owing to the superior redox activity, Lewis acidity and semiconductor-like behavior owing to Ce⁴⁺ , activated CSUST-3 was demonstrated to be an excellent catalyst for CO₂ chemical fixation. One-pot synthesis of styrene carbonate from styrene and CO₂ was achieved under mild conditions (1 atm CO₂ , 80 °C, and solvent free). Moreover, activated CSUST-3 was shown to be a remarkable co-catalyst-free photocatalyst for overall water splitting (OWS), rendering 59 μmol g^-1  h^-1 of H₂ and 22 μmol g^-1  h^-1 of O₂ under simulated sunlight irradiation (Na₂ S-Na₂ SO₃ as sacrificial agent).

A series of microporous and robust Ln-MOFs showing luminescence properties and catalytic performances towards Knoevenagel reactions

A series of microporous Ln(III)-based metal-organic frameworks (1-Ln) have been hydrothermally synthesized using 4,4',4''-nitrilotribenzoic acid (H₃NTB). Single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses show that 1-Ln are isostructural and have 3D porous frameworks with remarkable stability and permanent porosity for Ar and CO₂ adsorption. In addition, 1-Ln exhibit diverse photoluminescence emissions depending on the nature of lanthanide ions. More importantly, 1-Ln are further studied in the Knoevenagel reactions of benzaldehyde derivatives and malononitrile under solvent-free conditions, and it is found that 1-Tb shows the best catalytic activities (yields up to 99%), providing a unique example to differentiate the roles of Ln ions within the frameworks in catalyzing Knoevenagel reactions.

Co-Quenching Effect between Lanthanum Metal-Organic Frameworks Luminophore and Crystal Violet for Enhanced Electrochemiluminescence Gene Detection

Exploring new electrochemiluminescence (ECL) luminophores to construct high-efficiency sensing systems is always a hot direction for developing ECL sensors. Compared with other luminophores, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibit high mass transfer ability for accelerating the reactivity in its pore channels, which is conducive to improving the performance of ECL sensors. In this work, La³⁺ -BTC MOFs (LaMOFs) are prepared as the highly active reactor and novel ECL luminophore. On this basis, a novel co-quenching effect mechanism is proposed based on double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) triggered cooperation between LaMOFs and crystal violet (CV) molecules. Under the confined pore channels of LaMOFs, CV can play an important role as the photon-acceptor due to the matched absorption spectrum with the ECL spectrum of LaMOFs, and the electron-acceptor on account of its lowest unoccupied molecular orbital level. Based on the proposed co-quenching effect mechanism, a constructed ECL gene sensor shows good assay performance toward p53 gene in the detection range of 1 pm to 100 nm with a detection limit of 0.33 pm. The co-quenching effect integrating LaMOFs with CV is expected to be a versatile approach in the construction of ECL gene sensor, which has good prospect in expanding the application range of ECL technology.

Boosting H2 Production over C60 -Mediated NH2 -MIL-125(Ti)/Zn0.5 Cd0.5 S S-Scheme Heterojunction via Enhanced Interfacial Carrier Separation

Improving greatly the separation efficiency of interfacial charge carrier is a major challenge in photocatalysis. Herein, a new class of C₆₀ -mediated NH₂ -MIL-125(Ti)/Zn_0.5 Cd_0.5 S S-scheme heterojunction with enhanced interfacial charge carrier separation is designed and synthesized. The constructed S-scheme heterojunction thermodynamically favors photocatalytic H₂ evolution because of the large driving force resulting from its strong redox abilities. As a consequence, the optimum proportion of C₆₀ -mediated NH₂ -MIL-125(Ti)/Zn_0.5 Cd_0.5 S S-scheme heterojunction displays comparable H₂ evolution activity with a rate of 7825.20 µmol h^-1 g^-1 under visible light irradiation, which is about 93.05 times, 6.38 times and 2.65 times higher than that of 2% C₆₀ /NH₂ -MIL-125(Ti), Zn_0.5 Cd_0.5 S and 45% NH₂ -MIL-125(Ti)/Zn_0.5 Cd_0.5 S, and outperforms the majority of the previously reported MOFs-based photocatalysts. Spectroscopic characterizations and theory calculations indicate that the S-scheme heterojunction can powerfully promote the separation of photogenerated carriers. This work offers a new insight for future design and development of highly active MOFs-based photocatalysts.

Selective Photocatalytic Oxidation of Sulfides in Lanthanide Metal -Organic Frameworks Incorporating Ru(2,2'-bpy)3 photosensitizer

Three isostructural lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) were synthesized with uncoordinated N^N site, and the Ru(N^N)₃ photosensitizer was introduced via coordination link. These functionalized frameworks showed excellent performance in the photocatalytic oxidation of sulfides with good conversion and high sulfoxide selectivity.
