Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes (LM) is a bacterial pathogen responsible for listeriosis, a foodborne illness associated with high rates of mortality (20-30%) and hospitalisation. It is particularly dangerous among vulnerable groups, such as newborns, pregnant women and the elderly. The persistence of this organism in food-associated environments for months to years has been linked to several devastating listeriosis outbreaks. It may also result in significant costs to food businesses and economies. Currently, the mechanisms that facilitate LM persistence are poorly understood. Unravelling the enigma of what drives listerial persistence will be critical for developing more targeted control and prevention strategies. One prevailing hypothesis is that persistent strains exhibit stronger biofilm production on abiotic surfaces in food-associated environments. This review aims to (i) provide a comprehensive overview of the research on the relationship between listerial persistence and biofilm formation from phenotypic and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) studies; (ii) to highlight the ongoing challenges in determining the role biofilm development plays in persistence, if any; and (iii) to propose future research directions for overcoming these challenges.

Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive bacterium frequently involved in food-borne disease outbreaks and is widely distributed in the food-processing environment. This work aims to depict the impact of nutrition deficiency on the survival strategy of L. monocytogenes both in planktonic and biofilm states. In the present study, cell characteristics (autoaggression, hydrophobicity and motility), membrane fatty acid composition of MRL300083 (Lm83) in the forms of planktonic and biofilm-associated cells cultured in TSB-YE and 10-fold dilutions of TSB-YE (DTSB-YE) were investigated. Additionally, the relative expression of related genes were also determined by RT-qPCR. It was observed that cell growth in different bacterial life modes under nutritional stress rendered the cells a distinct phenotype. The higher autoaggression (AAG) and motility of the planktonic cells in DTSB-YE is associated with better biofilm formation. An increased proportion of unsaturated fatty acid/saturated fatty acid (USFA/SFA) indicates more fluidic biophysical properties for cell membranes of L. monocytogenes in planktonic and biofilm cells in DTSB-YE. Biofilm cells produced a higher percentage of USFA and straight fatty acids than the corresponding planktonic cells. An appropriate degree of membrane fluidity is crucial for survival, and alteration of membrane lipids is an essential adaptive response. The adaptation of bacteria to stress is a multifactorial cellular process, the expression of flagella-related genes fliG, fliP, flgE and the two-component chemotactic system cheA/Y genes of planktonic cells in DTSB-YE significantly increased compared to that in TSB-YE (p < 0.05). This study provides new information on the role of the physiological adaptation and gene expression of L. monocytogenes for planktonic and biofilm growth under nutritional stress.

Functional Genomics Identified Novel Genes Involved in Growth at Low Temperatures in Listeria monocytogenes. Microbiol Spectr 2022; 10:e0071022. Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) is a foodborne pathogen that can cause severe human illness. Standard control measures for restricting bacterial growth, such as refrigeration, are often inadequate as Lm grows well at low temperatures. To identify genes involved in growth at low temperatures, a powerful functional genomics method Tn-seq was performed in this study. This genome-wide screening comprehensively identified the known and novel genetic determinants involved in low-temperature growth. A novel gene lmo1366, encoding rRNA methyltransferase, was identified to play an essential role in Lm growth at 16°C. In contrast, the inactivation of lmo2301, a gene encoding the terminase of phage A118, significantly enhanced the growth of Lm at 16°C. The deletion of lmo1366 or lmo2301 resulted in cell morphology alterations and impaired the growth rate in milk and other conditions at low temperatures. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that the Δlmo1366 and Δlmo2301 mutants exhibited altered transcriptional patterns compared to the wild-type strain at 16°C with significant differences in genes involved in ribosome structural stability and function, and membrane biogenesis, respectively. This work uncovered novel genetic determinants involved in Lm growth at 16°C, which could lead to a better understanding of how bacteria survive and multiply at low temperatures. Furthermore, these findings could potentially contribute to developing novel antibacterial strategies under low-temperature conditions. IMPORTANCEListeria monocytogenes is a Gram-positive pathogen that contributes to foodborne outbreaks due to its ability to survive at low temperatures. However, the genetic determinants of Lm involved in growth at low temperatures have not been fully defined. Here, the genetic determinants involved in the low-temperature growth of Lm were comprehensively identified on a genome-wide scale by Tn-seq. The gene lmo1366, encoding rRNA methyltransferase, was identified essential for growth under low-temperature conditions. On the other hand, the gene lmo2301, encoding terminase of phage A118, plays a negative role in bacterial growth at low temperatures. The transcriptomic analysis revealed the potential mechanisms. These findings lead to a better understanding of how bacteria survive and multiply at low temperatures and could provide unique targets for novel antibacterial strategies under low-temperature conditions.

Abstract
AIMS To study the effects of environmental stress and nutrient conditions on biofilm formation of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC). METHODS AND RESULTS The APEC strain DE17 was used to study biofilm formation under various conditions of environmental stress (including different temperatures, pH, metal ions, and antibiotics) and nutrient conditions (LB and M9 media, with the addition of different carbohydrates, if necessary). The DE17 biofilm formation ability was strongest at 25°C in LB medium. Compared to incubation at 37°C, three biofilm-related genes (csgD, dgcC, and pfs) were significantly upregulated and two genes (flhC and flhD) were downregulated at 25°C, which resulted in decreased motility. However, biofilm formation was strongest in M9 medium supplemented with glucose at 37°C, and the number of live bacteria was the highest as determined by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM). The bacteria in the biofilm were surrounded by a thick extracellular matrix, and honeycomb-like or rough surfaces were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Moreover, biofilm formation of the DE17 strain was remarkably inhibited under acidic conditions, whereas neutral and alkaline conditions were more suitable for biofilm formation. Biofilm formation was also inhibited at specific concentrations of cations (Na+ , K+ , Ca2+ , and Mg2+ ) and antibiotics (ampicillin, chloramphenicol, kanamycin, and spectinomycin). The qRT-PCR showed that the transcription levels of biofilm-related genes change under different environmental conditions. CONCLUSIONS Nutritional and environmental factors played an important role in DE17 biofilm development. The transcription levels of biofilm-related genes changed under different environmental and nutrient conditions. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY The findings suggest that nutritional and environmental factors play an important role in APEC biofilm development. Depending on the different conditions involved in this study, it can serve as a guide to treating biofilm-related infections and to eliminating biofilms from the environment.

Abstract
In the present study, a fixed-film bioscrubber (FFBS) of BTEX-degrading bacterium Microbacterium esteraromaticum SBS1-7 with 'AQUAPOROUSGEL® or APG' supporting material was continuously fed with toluene- or styrene-contaminated gas stream for 172 days. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used to optimize the biofilm formation on APG as well as the toluene biodegradation in mineral salt medium (MM). The results suggested that 1000 ppm of yeast extract (YE) was necessary for biofilm formation of SBS1-7. The optimized combination of YE and toluene concentration exhibiting the highest biofilm formation and toluene removal was further employed in an up-scale FFBS operation. The maximum Elimination Capacity (ECmax) of 203 g·m-3·h-1 was obtained at the toluene Inlet Loading Rate (ILR) of 295 g·m-3·h-1. FFBS of SBS1-7 was able to withstand a 5-day shutdown and required only 24 h to recover. Moreover, when the inlet Volatile Organic Compound was shifted to styrene, FFBS required only 24 h for adaptation and the system was able to efficiently remove ~95% of styrene after that. Finally, the performance of the bioscrubber when operated in 2 different modes of operation (FFBS vs Biotricking Filter or BTF) were compared. This study evidently demonstrated the robustness and stability of FFBS with M. esteraromaticum SBS1-7.

Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes are Gram-positive, facultatively anaerobic, non-spore-forming bacteria that easily adapt to changing environmental conditions. The ability to grow at a wide range of temperatures, pH, and salinity determines the presence of the pathogen in water, sewage, soil, decaying vegetation, and animal feed. L. monocytogenes is an etiological factor of listeriosis, especially dangerous for the elderly, pregnant women, and newborns. The major source of L. monocytogenes for humans is food, including fresh and smoked products. Its high prevalence in food is associated with bacterial adaptation to the food processing environment (FPE). Since the number of listeriosis cases has been progressively increasing an efficient eradication of the pathogen from the FPE is crucial. Understanding the mechanisms of bacterial adaptation to environmental stress will significantly contribute to developing novel, effective methods of controlling L. monocytogenes in the food industry.

Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes is the causative agent of human listeriosis which has high hospitalization and mortality rates for individuals with weakened immune systems. The survival and dissemination of L. monocytogenes in adverse environments can be reinforced by the formation of biofilms. Therefore, this study aimed to understand the mechanisms underlying listerial biofilm development. Given that both nutrient availability and quorum sensing (QS) have been known as the factors influencing biofilm development, we hypothesized that the signal from a sentinel metabolite S‐adenosylmethionine (SAM) and Agr‐based QS could be synchronous in L. monocytogenes to modulate nutrient availability, the synthesis of extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs), and biofilm formation. We performed biofilm assays and quantitative real‐time PCR to investigate how biofilm volumes and the expression of genes for the synthesis of EPS were affected by SAM supplementation, agr deletion, or both. We found that exogenously applied SAM induced biofilm formation and that the expression of genes encoding the EPS synthesis machineries was regulated by SAM and/or Agr QS. Moreover, the gene transcription of components acting in the methyl cycle for SAM synthesis and Agr QS was affected by the signals from the other system. In summary, we reveal an interconnection at the transcriptional level between metabolism and QS in L. monocytogenes and highlight the critical role of metabolite‐oriented QS in biofilm development.

Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes may be present in produce-associated environments (e.g., fields, packing houses); thus, understanding its growth and survival on intact, whole produce is of critical importance. The goal of this study was to identify and characterize published data on the growth and/or survival of L. monocytogenes on intact fruit and vegetable surfaces. Relevant studies were identified by searching seven electronic databases: AGRICOLA, CAB Abstracts, Center for Produce Safety funded research project final reports, FST Abstracts, Google Scholar, PubMed, and Web of Science. Searches were conducted using the following terms: Listeria monocytogenes, produce, growth, and survival. Search terms were also modified and "exploded" to find all related subheadings. Included studies had to be prospective, describe methodology (e.g., inoculation method), outline experimental parameters, and provide quantitative growth and/or survival data. Studies were not included if methods were unclear or inappropriate, or if produce was cut, processed, or otherwise treated. Of 3,459 identified citations, 88 were reviewed in full and 29 studies met the inclusion criteria. Included studies represented 21 commodities, with the majority of studies focusing on melons, leafy greens, berries, or sprouts. Synthesis of the reviewed studies suggests L. monocytogenes growth and survival on intact produce surfaces differ substantially by commodity. Parameters such as temperature and produce surface characteristics had a considerable effect on L. monocytogenes growth and survival dynamics. This review provides an inventory of the current data on L. monocytogenes growth and/or survival on intact produce surfaces. Identification of which intact produce commodities support L. monocytogenes growth and/or survival at various conditions observed along the supply chain will assist the industry in managing L. monocytogenes contamination risk.

Abstract
Biofilms help bacteria survive under adverse conditions, and the quorum sensing (QS) system plays an important role in regulating their activities. Quorum sensing inhibitors (QSIs) have great potential to inhibit pathogenic biofilm formation and are considered possible replacements for antibiotics; however, further investigation is required to understand the mechanisms of action of QSIs and to avoid inhibitory effects on beneficial bacteria. Lactobacillus paraplantarum L-ZS9, isolated from fermented sausage, is a bacteriocin-producing bacteria that shows potential to be a probiotic starter. Since exogenous autoinducer-2 (AI-2) promoted biofilm formation of the strain, expression of genes involved in AI-2 production was determined in L. paraplantarum L-ZS9, especially the key gene luxS. D-Ribose was used to inhibit biofilm formation because of its AI-2 inhibitory activity. Twenty-seven differentially expressed proteins were identified by comparative proteomic analysis following D-ribose treatment and were functionally classified into six groups. Real-time quantitative PCR showed that AI-2 had a counteractive effect on transcription of the genes tuf, fba, gap, pgm, nfo, rib, and rpoN. Over-expression of the tuf, fba, gap, pgm, and rpoN genes promoted biofilm formation of L. paraplantarum L-ZS9, while over-expression of the nfo and rib genes inhibited biofilm formation. In conclusion, D-ribose inhibited biofilm formation of L. paraplantarum L-ZS9 by regulating multiple genes involved in the glycolytic pathway, extracellular DNA degradation and transcription, and translation. This research provides a new mechanism of QSI regulation of biofilm formation of Lactobacillus and offers a valuable reference for QSI application in the future.

Abstract
Biofilm formation by the pathogen Listeria monocytogenes is a major concern in food industries. The aim of this work was to elucidate the effect of nutrient limitation on both biofilm architecture and on the viability of the bacteria in microfluidic growth conditions. Biofilm formation by two L. monocytogenes strains was performed in a rich medium (BHI) and in a 10-fold diluted BHI (BHI/10) at 30°C for 24 h by using both static conditions and the microfluidic system Bioflux. In dynamic conditions, biofilms grown in rich and poor medium showed significant differences as well in structure and in the resulting biovolume. In BHI/10, biofilm was organized in a knitted network where cells formed long chains, whereas in the rich medium, the observed structure was homogeneous cellular multilayers. Biofilm biovolume production in BHI/10 was significantly higher than in BHI in these dynamic conditions. Interestingly, biovolume of dead cells in biofilms formed under limited nutrient conditions (BHI/10) was significantly higher than in biofilms formed in the BHI medium. In the other hand, in static conditions, biofilm is organized in a multilayer cells and dispersed cells in a rich medium BHI and poor medium BHI/10 respectively. There was significantly more biomass in the rich medium compared to BHI/10 but no difference was noted in the dead/damaged subpopulation showing how L. monocytogenes biofilm could be affected by the growth conditions. This work demonstrated that nutrient concentration affects biofilm structure and the proportion of dead cells in biofilms under microfluidic condition. Our study also showed that limited nutrients play an important role in the structural stability of L. monocytogenes biofilm by enhancing cell death and liberating extracellular DNA.

Abstract
In the last decades, Listeria has become a key model organism for the study of host-pathogen interactions, noncoding RNA regulation, and bacterial adaptation to stress. To study these mechanisms, several genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics data sets have been produced. We have developed Listeriomics, an interactive web platform to browse and correlate these heterogeneous sources of information. Our website will allow listeriologists and microbiologists to decipher key regulation mechanism by using a systems biology approach. As for many model organisms, the amount of Listeria omics data produced has recently increased exponentially. There are now >80 published complete Listeria genomes, around 350 different transcriptomic data sets, and 25 proteomic data sets available. The analysis of these data sets through a systems biology approach and the generation of tools for biologists to browse these various data are a challenge for bioinformaticians. We have developed a web-based platform, named Listeriomics, that integrates different tools for omics data analyses, i.e., (i) an interactive genome viewer to display gene expression arrays, tiling arrays, and sequencing data sets along with proteomics and genomics data sets; (ii) an expression and protein atlas that connects every gene, small RNA, antisense RNA, or protein with the most relevant omics data; (iii) a specific tool for exploring protein conservation through the Listeria phylogenomic tree; and (iv) a coexpression network tool for the discovery of potential new regulations. Our platform integrates all the complete Listeria species genomes, transcriptomes, and proteomes published to date. This website allows navigation among all these data sets with enriched metadata in a user-friendly format and can be used as a central database for systems biology analysis. IMPORTANCE In the last decades, Listeria has become a key model organism for the study of host-pathogen interactions, noncoding RNA regulation, and bacterial adaptation to stress. Abstract
Biofilms are microbial communities characterized by their adhesion to solid surfaces and the production of a matrix of exopolymeric substances, consisting of polysaccharides, proteins, DNA and lipids, which surround the microorganisms lending structural integrity and a unique biochemical profile to the biofilm. Biofilm formation enhances the ability of the producer/s to persist in a given environment. Pathogenic and spoilage bacterial species capable of forming biofilms are a significant problem for the healthcare and food industries, as their biofilm-forming ability protects them from common cleaning processes and allows them to remain in the environment post-sanitation. In the food industry, persistent bacteria colonize the inside of mixing tanks, vats and tubing, compromising food safety and quality. Strategies to overcome bacterial persistence through inhibition of biofilm formation or removal of mature biofilms are therefore necessary. Current biofilm control strategies employed in the food industry (cleaning and disinfection, material selection and surface preconditioning, plasma treatment, ultrasonication, etc.), although effective to a certain point, fall short of biofilm control. Efforts have been explored, mainly with a view to their application in pharmaceutical and healthcare settings, which focus on targeting molecular determinants regulating biofilm formation. Their application to the food industry would greatly aid efforts to eradicate undesirable bacteria from food processing environments and, ultimately, from food products. These approaches, in contrast to bactericidal approaches, exert less selective pressure which in turn would reduce the likelihood of resistance development. A particularly interesting strategy targets quorum sensing systems, which regulate gene expression in response to fluctuations in cell-population density governing essential cellular processes including biofilm formation. This review article discusses the problems associated with bacterial biofilms in the food industry and summarizes the recent strategies explored to inhibit biofilm formation, with special focus on those targeting quorum sensing.

Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes is an important cause of human foodborne infections and its ability to form biofilms is a serious concern to the food industry. To reveal the effect of glucose conditions on biofilm formation of L. monocytogenes, 20 strains were investigated under three glucose conditions (0.1, 1.0, and 2.0% w v(-1)) by quantifying the number of cells in the biofilm and observing the biofilm structure after incubation for 24, 72, and 168 h. In addition, the biofilms were examined for their sensitivity to sodium hypochlorite. It was found that high concentrations of glucose reduced the number of viable cells in the biofilms and increased extracellular polymeric substance production. Moreover, biofilms formed at a glucose concentration of 1.0 or 2.0% were more resistant to sodium hypochlorite than those formed at a glucose concentration of 0.1%. This knowledge can be used to help design the most appropriate sanitation strategy.

Abstract
The foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes is able to survive and grow in ready-to-eat foods, in which it is likely to experience a number of environmental stresses due to refrigerated storage and the physicochemical properties of the food. Little is known about the specific molecular mechanisms underlying survival and growth of L. monocytogenes under different complex conditions on/in specific food matrices. Transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq) was used to understand the transcriptional landscape of L. monocytogenes strain H7858 grown on cold smoked salmon (CSS; water phase salt, 4.65%; pH 6.1) relative to that in modified brain heart infusion broth (MBHIB; water phase salt, 4.65%; pH 6.1) at 7°C. Significant differential transcription of 149 genes was observed (false-discovery rate [FDR], <0.05; fold change, ≥2.5), and 88 and 61 genes were up- and downregulated, respectively, in H7858 grown on CSS relative to the genes in H7858 grown in MBHIB. In spite of these differences in transcriptomes under these two conditions, growth parameters for L. monocytogenes were not significantly different between CSS and MBHIB, indicating that the transcriptomic differences reflect how L. monocytogenes is able to facilitate growth under these different conditions. Differential expression analysis and Gene Ontology enrichment analysis indicated that genes encoding proteins involved in cobalamin biosynthesis as well as ethanolamine and 1,2-propanediol utilization have significantly higher transcript levels in H7858 grown on CSS than in that grown in MBHIB. Our data identify specific transcriptional profiles of L. monocytogenes growing on vacuum-packaged CSS, which may provide targets for the development of novel and improved strategies to control L. monocytogenes growth on this ready-to-eat food.

Abstract
Bacterial lifestyle is influenced by environmental signals, and many differentiation processes in bacteria are governed by the threshold concentrations of molecules present in their niche. Biofilm is one such example where bacteria in their sessile state adapt to a lifestyle that causes several adaptive alterations in the population. Here, a brief overview is given on a variety of environmental signals that bias biofilm development in Gram-positive bacteria, including nutrient conditions, self- and heterologously produced substances, like quorum sensing and host produced molecules. The Gram-positive model organism, Bacillus subtilis is a superb example to illustrate how distinct signals activate sensor proteins that integrate the environmental signals towards global regulators related to biofilm formation. The role of reduced oxygen level, polyketides, antimicrobials, plant secreted carbohydrates, plant cell derived polymers, glycerol, and osmotic conditions are discussed during the transcriptional activation of biofilm related genes in B. subtilis.

Abstract
It is recognized that bacterial adhesion usually occurs on conditioning films made of organic macromolecules absorbed to abiotic surfaces. The objectives of this study were to determine the extent to which milk protein-coated polystyrene (PS) pegs interfere with biofilm formation and the synergistic effect of this conditioning and hypertonic growth media on the bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation of Listeria innocua, used as a nonpathogenic surrogate for Listeria monocytogenes. PS pegs were uncoated (bare PS) or individually coated with whey proteins isolate (WPI), β-lactoglobulin, bovine serum albumin, or tryptic soy broth (TSB) and were incubated in bacterial suspensions in modified Welshimer's broth. After 4 h, the number of adherent cells was dependent on the coating, as follows: TSB (10(7) CFU/ml) > bare PS > β-lactoglobulin > bovine serum albumin ∼ WPI (10(4) CFU/ml). The sessile cell counts increased up to 24 h, reaching > 10(7) CFU per peg for all surfaces (P > 0.1), except for WPI-coated PS; this indicates that the inhibitory effects of milk protein conditioning films are transient, slowing down the adhesion process. The 4-h bacterial adhesion on milk protein-coated PS in modified Welshimer's broth supplemented with salt (0 to 10% [wt/vol]) did not vary (P > 0.1), indicating that conditioning with milk proteins was the major determinant for inhibition of bacterial adhesion and that the synergetic effect of salt and milk proteins on adhesion was minimal. Moreover, the presence of 5 to 10% salt significantly inhibited 24-h biofilm formation on the TSB-coated and bare PS, with a decrease of >3 log at 10% (wt/vol) NaCl and almost completely depleted viable sessile bacteria on the milk protein-coated PS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Enterococcus faecalis is a bacterial pathogen that is often associated with endodontic infections. Biofilm formation is a key virulence attribute in the pathogenicity of E. faecalis. In the present study, we comprehensively examined the effect of various culture media and nutrients on the development of E. faecalis biofilms. DESIGN A reference strain and a clinical isolate of E. faecalis were used in all experiments for comparison. Commonly used liquid culture media with different nutrient compositions were used to support the development of E. faecalis biofilms in a time-dependent assay. E. faecalis biofilms were quantified by colony forming unit (CFU) and crystal violet (CV) assays. Biofilm architecture and cellular viability were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy. RESULTS Growth kinetics evaluated by CFU and CV assays and by microscopy showed that E. faecalis biofilms reached maturity at 72h. "Pg broth" (Tryptic Soy Broth with yeast extract, hemen and vitamin K) promoted E. faecalis biofilm formation more than Brain Heart Infusion broth or Tryptic Soy Broth. Addition of 2% glucose enhanced biofilm formation. Thus, it seems that nutrients such as hemen, vitamin K and glucose are important for E. faecalis for the formation of biofilms. CONCLUSION The present study demonstrated that nutrient-rich media containing glucose enhances the formation of E. faecalis biofilms, which exhibit maturation at 72h.

Abstract
The foodborne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes has the ability to develop biofilm in the food-processing environment, which becomes a major concern for food safety. PrfA, a key transcriptional activator that regulates most of the known listerial virulence gene expression, has been shown to promote L. monocytogenes biofilm formation. In this study, the whole-genome microarray was used to identify differentially expressed genes associated with the putative interaction between biofilm formation and PrfA in L. monocytogenes. Comparative transcriptome analyses indicated that over 21.9 % of the L. monocytogenes EGDe genes (627 out of 2,857 predicted) were altered in their expression of biofilm compared to the planktonic phase. These genes were classified into different functional categories which cover most of the biochemical functions encountered in bacterial cells, indicating that L. monocytogenes biofilm formation is probably controlled by a complex regulation network involved in variable genes required for the different biological pathways. Further comparison of gene expression profiles of biofilms between L. monocytogenes EGDe and its PrfA deletion mutant revealed 185 genes associated with PrfA and biofilm formation. Except for 10 genes, transcription levels of 175 genes were completely opposite between ΔprfA and wild-type during the biofilm formation, i.e., up-regulated genes in ΔprfA were down-regulated in the wild-type strain, and vice versa, indicating that loss of PrfA dramatically altered gene expression patterns in L. monocytogenes biofilm and resulted in reduced ability of the biofilm formation.
