Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the association between interpregnancy interval (IPI) and parent-reported oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) in offspring at 7 and 10 years of age. We used data from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC), an ongoing population-based longitudinal study based in Bristol, United Kingdom (UK). Data included in the analysis consisted of more than 3200 mothers and their singleton children. The association between IPI and ODD was determined using a series of log-binomial regression analyses. We found that children of mothers with short IPI (<6 months) were 2.4 times as likely to have a diagnosis of ODD at 7 and 10 years compared to mothers with IPI of 18-23 months (RR = 2.45; 95%CI: 1.24-4.81 and RR = 2.40; 95% CI: 1.08-5.33), respectively. We found no evidence of associations between other IPI categories and risk of ODD in offspring in both age groups. Adjustment for a wide range of confounders, including maternal mental health, and comorbid ADHD did not alter the findings. This study suggests that the risk of ODD is higher among children born following short IPI (<6 months). Future large prospective studies are needed to elucidate the mechanisms explaining this association.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to systematically review the literature on the associations between birth spacing and developmental outcomes in early childhood (3-10 years of age). Studies examining the associations between interpregnancy intervals and child development outcomes during and beyond the perinatal period have not been systematically reviewed. Methods We searched Ovid/MEDLINE, Global Health, PsycINFO, EMBASE, CINAHL Plus, Educational Source, Research Starters, ERIC, Scopus, PubMed, Social Science Research Network database, and ProQuest's Social Sciences Databases for relevant articles published between 1 January 1989 and 25 June 2021. Studies published in English, conducted in populations residing in high-income countries with any measure of birth spacing, and child development outcomes among children aged <10 years were included. Two authors independently assessed the eligibility of studies and extracted data on the study design, setting and population, birth spacing, outcomes, and results. Results The search yielded 1,556 records, of which seven studies met the inclusion criteria. Five of these seven studies used birth intervals as the exposure measure. Definitions of exposure differed between the studies. Three studies reported an association between short birth spacing and poorer child development outcomes, and two studies reported an association between long birth spacing and poorer child development outcomes. Conclusion Currently, limited evidence suggests that the adverse effects of sub-optimal birth spacing are observable beyond infancy.

Abstract
PURPOSE Pruritus during pregnancy is associated with adverse maternal, pregnancy, and neonatal outcomes. We opted to assess the association between term pruritus and long-term neuropsychiatric hospitalizations of the offspring. METHODS In a population-based retrospective cohort study, the incidence of long-term neuropsychiatric hospitalizations was compared between offspring born to women with or without pruritus at term. Neuropsychiatric morbidity was assessed up to the age of 18 years according to ICD-9 codes associated with hospitalization of the offspring. A Kaplan-Meier survival curve was used to compare cumulative neuropsychiatric hospitalizations incidence and Cox proportional hazards models were used to control for confounders. The study included 226,918 deliveries of which 600 (0.26%) were in women with term pruritus. RESULTS Offspring born to women with pruritus exhibited a higher rate of long-term neuropsychiatric hospitalizations, specifically due to developmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Kaplan-Meier survival curve demonstrated a significantly higher cumulative incidence of long-term neuropsychiatric hospitalizations in offspring of women with pruritus. Using several Cox proportional hazards models, being born to a woman with pruritus was independently associated with an increased risk of long-term neuropsychiatric hospitalizations. CONCLUSIONS Maternal term pruritus was found to be independently associated with long-term neuropsychiatric hospitalizations of the offspring.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The possible impact of interpregnancy interval (IPI) on perinatal outcomes has long been studied, however, a definition of the optimal interval is still not clear. Both short and long IPIs have been associated with obstetrical syndromes and short and long-term complications. In this study, we sought to explore the impact of IPI on the hazard for neoplasm of the offspring, thus contribute to the present literature in determining the preferred birth spacing. OBJECTIVE We aim to investigate the association between short and long IPIs and the hazard for childhood neoplasm of the offspring. METHODS A population-based retrospective cohort analysis comparing offspring neoplasm hazard following three different IPIs. Exposure was defined as short (<6 months), or long (>60 months) IPIs, whereas intermediate IPI (6 months - 60 months) served as the comparison group. The study included singleton live births in a tertiary regional hospital between 1991 and 2014. Offspring were followed for 18 years, and all hospitalization records for neoplasm diagnoses were collected. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were used for the cumulative incidence of neoplasm morbidity, and Cox proportional hazards models were used to control for confounders. RESULTS During the study period, 144,397 deliveries met the inclusion criteria. Of those, 18,947 (13.1%) occurred in women with short IPI, 114,012 (79%) in women with intermediate IPI, and 11,438 (7.9%) in women with long IPI. 61 benign neoplasms and 80 malignant neoplasms were registered in offspring born after long IPI. The total percentage of neoplasm were the highest in the long IPI group versus the intermediate and short IPI groups (malignant - 0.7%, 0.6%, 0.5% respectively, benign - 0.5%, 0.4%, 0.3% respectively). Controlling for maternal age, diabetes mellitus, preterm delivery, birth weight, smoking, cesarean section, and fertility treatments, long IPI was found to be independently associated with high hazard for long-term pediatric neoplasm related hospitalizations (adjusted HR 1.39, 95% CI 1.09, 1.77). Short IPI may be associated to decreased hazard for childhood neoplasms (adjusted HR 0.74, 95% Cl 0.59, 0.92). CONCLUSIONS Long IPI is associated with a high hazard for childhood neoplasms, compared with intermediate and short IPIs. Short IPI may be associated with decreased hazard for childhood neoplasms.

Abstract
(1) Background: Preterm deliveries (PTD, <37 gestational weeks) which occur in 5–18% of deliveries across the world, are associated with immediate and long-term offspring morbidity, as well as high costs to health systems. Our aim was to identify risk factors during the first pregnancy ending at term for PTD in the subsequent pregnancy. (2) Methods: A retrospective population- based nested case−control study was conducted, including all women with two first singleton consecutive deliveries. Women with PTD in the first pregnancy were excluded. Characteristics and complications of the first pregnancy were compared among cases, defined as women with PTD in their second pregnancy, and the controls, defined as women delivering at term in their second pregnancy. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to study the association between pregnancy complications (in the first pregnancy) and PTD (in the subsequent pregnancy), while adjusting for maternal age and the interpregnancy interval. (3) Results: A total of 39,780 women were included in the study, 5.2% (n = 2088) had PTD in their second pregnancy. Women with PTD, as compared to controls (i.e., delivered at term in second pregnancy), were more likely to have the following complications in their first pregnancy: perinatal mortality (0.4% vs. 1.0%), small for gestational age (12.4% vs. 8.1%), and preeclampsia (7.6% vs. 5.7%). In the multivariable model, after adjusting for maternal age, interpregnancy interval and co-morbidities, having any one of these first pregnancy complications was independently associated with an increased risk for PTD (adjusted OR = 1.44; 95%CI 1.28–1.62), and the risk was greater if two or more complications were diagnosed (adjusted OR = 2.09; 95%CI 1.47–3.00). These complications were also risk factors for early PTD (<34 gestational weeks), PTD with a systematic infectious disease in the background, and possibly with spontaneous PTD. (4) Conclusions: First pregnancy complications are associated with an increased risk for PTD in the subsequent pregnancy. First pregnancy, although ending at term, may serve as a window of opportunity to identify women at risk for future PTD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the associations between interpregnancy intervals (IPIs) and developmental vulnerability in children's first year of full-time school (age 5). DESIGN Retrospective cohort study using logistic regression. ORs were estimated for associations with IPIs with adjustment for child, parent and community sociodemographic variables. SETTING Western Australia (WA), 2002-2015. PARTICIPANTS 34 574 WA born singletons with a 2009, 2012 or 2015 Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) record. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE The AEDC measures child development across five domains; Physical Health and Wellbeing, Social Competence, Emotional Maturity, Language and Cognitive Skills (school-based) and Communication Skills and General Knowledge. Children with scores <10th percentile were classified as developmentally vulnerable on, one or more domains (DV1), or two or more domains (DV2). RESULTS 22.8% and 11.5% of children were classified as DV1 and DV2, respectively. In the adjusted models (relative to the reference category, IPIs of 18-23 months), IPIs of <6 months were associated with an increased risk of children being classified as DV1 (adjusted OR (aOR) 1.17, 95% CI 1.08 to 1.34), DV2 (aOR 1.31, 95% CI 1.10 to 1.54) and an increased risk of developmental vulnerability for the domains of Physical Health and Wellbeing (aOR 1.25, 95% CI 1.06 to 1.48) and Emotional Maturity (aOR 1.36, 95% CI 1.12 to 1.66). All IPIs longer than the reference category were associated with and increased risk of children being classified as DV1 and DV2 (aOR >1.15). IPIs of 60-119 months and ≥120 months, were associated with an increased risk of developmental vulnerability on each of the five AEDC domains, with greater odds for each domain for the longer IPI category. CONCLUSIONS IPIs showed independent J-shaped relationships with developmental vulnerability, with short (<6 months) and longer (≥24 months) associated with increased risks of developmental vulnerability.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of parity and interpregnancy interval (IPI) on perinatal outcomes in advanced maternal age (AMA) parturients. METHODS A population-based retrospective cohort study of all women older than 40 years, who had a singleton live birth after 24 weeks in the United States in 2017 Women were categorized to three groups by parity and interval from last delivery: primiparas, multiparas with IPI ≤ 5 years, and multiparas with IPI > 5 years. Primary outcome was composite adverse neonatal outcome (preterm delivery <34 weeks, birthweight <2000 g, neonatal seizure, neonatal intensive care unit admission, Apgar score <7 at 5 min, or assisted ventilation >6 h). Secondary outcome was composite adverse maternal outcome and other adverse perinatal outcomes. Univariate and multivariate analysis were used to compare between groups. RESULTS During 2017, 3,864,754 deliveries were recorded into the database. Following exclusion, 109,564 AMA gravidas entered analysis. Of them, 24,769 (22.6%) were nulliparas, 39,933 (36.4%) were multiparas with IPI ≤ 5 years, and 44,862 (40.9%) were multiparas with IPI > 5 years. Composite neonatal outcome was higher in nulliparas and in multiparas with IPI > 5 years, in comparison to multiparas with IPI ≤ 5 years (16% vs. 13% vs. 10%, respectively, p < 0.05). Maternal composite outcome was similar between groups. In the multivariable analysis, relative to nulliparas, only multiparity with IPI ≤ 5 years had a protective effect against the composite neonatal outcome (aOR 0.97, 95% CI 0.95-0.99, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Among AMA gravidas, multiparity with IPI ≤ 5 years has a significant protective effect against adverse neonatal outcomes when compared to nulliparas. Multiparity with IPI > 5 years is no longer protective.
