Abstract
A linking procedure establishes a "bridge" between the scores from different patient-reported outcome (PRO) instruments that measure similar constructs. After developing a linking relationship however, it is critical to evaluate whether this relationship can be generalized to different groups. Our study aims to validate a published crosswalk for score conversion between the Brief Symptom Inventory Depression subscale and the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Depression 8a using an independent sample. Data were from a sample of young men who have sex with men (MSM), which differs in terms of participant age, race, and ethnicity from the sample used to develop the existing crosswalk. The validity of the newly derived crosswalk was evaluated in terms of the correlation, mean difference and standard deviation between the observed and the linked scores. The two crosswalks were further compared to evaluate if the difference was within an acceptable range. More than half of the item parameters obtained from the two samples were found to overlap in their confidence intervals. Differences between each pair of scores in the two crosswalks was within three T-score points, well within the range of each crosswalk score's standard error. This study concludes that an existing crosswalk is replicable on a sample that differs from that used for crosswalk development, but future research should continue to examine the generalizability of the linked parameters and evaluate the reproducibility of this crosswalk to other populations.

Abstract
Purpose: This study investigated conflict between sexual orientation and racial/ethnic identities as a mechanism linking minority stress to HIV-related outcomes among men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender women and gender nonbinary (TGN) people of color (POC). Methods: We tested longitudinal mediation models with sexual orientation microaggressions, internalized heterosexism (IH), and sexual orientation concealment at Time 1, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use and number of condomless anal sex (CAS) partners at Time 3, mediated by identity conflict at Time 2. Participants were 337 MSM and TGN POC. Data were collected in Chicago, Illinois, from September 2018 to February 2021. Results: Indirect associations of IH and sexual orientation concealment, respectively, at Time 1 with CAS partners at Time 3 through identity conflict at Time 2 were significant. Mediation models with sexual orientation microaggressions as the predictor and PrEP use as the outcome were not significant. Conclusion: Minority stress may contribute to identity conflict and increase CAS by isolating MSM and TGN POC from sexual and gender minority communities, thus restricting access to safer sex resources, and by increasing psychological distress and decreasing self-care (e.g., condom use).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Volatility in sexual contact rates has been recognized as an important factor influencing HIV transmission dynamics. One-time partnerships may be particularly important given the potential to quickly accumulate large number of contacts. Yet, empirical data documenting individual variation in contact rates remain rare. This study provides much needed data on temporal variation in one-time partners to better understand behavioral dynamics and improve the accuracy of transmission models. METHODS Data for this study were obtained from a longitudinal cohort study of young men who have sex with men and transgender women in Chicago. Participants provided sexual network data every 6 months for 2 years. A series of random effects models examined variation in one-time partnership rates and disaggregated within and between associations of exposure variables. Exposure variables included prior number of one-time partners, number of casual partners, and having a main partner. RESULTS Results indicated substantial between-person and within-person variation in one-time partners. Casual partnerships were positively associated and main partnerships negatively associated with one-time partnership rates. There remained a small positive association between prior one-time partnerships and the current number of one-time partnerships. CONCLUSIONS Despite the preponderance of a low number of one-time partners, substantial variation in one-time partnership rates exists among young men who have sex with men and transgender women. Accordingly, focusing on high contact rate individuals alone may be insufficient to identify periods of highest risk. Future studies should use these estimates to more accurately model how volatility impacts HIV transmission and better understand how this variation influences intervention effectiveness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study's purposes were to characterize detection rates of several sexually transmitted infection (STI) agents and describe the effect additional specimen source and analyte screening has on STI detection within a cohort of young men who have sex with men and transgender women. METHODS Within a 16-month interval, 1966 encounters involved dual urine and rectal swab submissions assessed by commercial transcription-mediated amplification-based assays for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae and by off-label transcription-mediated amplification-based Trichomonas vaginalis and Mycoplasma genitalium testing. Identification of STI carriers used algorithms involving Food and Drug Administration-cleared screening methods, laboratory-modified testing for extraurogenital C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae, and laboratory-developed tests for T. vaginalis and M. genitalium. RESULTS Food and Drug Administration-indicated urine C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae screening revealed 39 encounters (2.0%) yielding one or both agents. Via C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae screening that included rectal swab analysis, 264 encounters (13.4%) yielded evidence of either (140 C. trachomatis, 88 N. gonorrhoeae) or both (36 participants) infections. Detection rates for C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae were 1.4% and 0.6% for urine screening and 8.2% and 6.2% for rectal screening, respectively. Off-label screening identified 413 additional encounters with STI (5 T. vaginalis, 396 M. genitalium, 12 with both). Of these identifications, 82.1% were generated from analysis of rectal swabs (4 participants with T. vaginalis, 323 participants with M. genitalium, 12 with both). Overall detection rates of T. vaginalis (0.2% urine, 1.3% rectal) and M. genitalium (9.1% urine, 21.5% rectal) were variable. CONCLUSIONS Additive analyte testing, including extraurogenital collections, contributes to comprehensive STI screening within a high-risk demographic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Effective condom use is a critical intervention to limit the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, particularly among individuals in high-risk networks who practice anal sex. We characterized condom failures in cisgender men who have sex with men and transgender women in Nigeria. SETTING The TRUST/RV368 cohort provided condoms, compatible lubricants, and safer sex education to men who have sex with men and transgender women at community-engaged health centers in Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria. METHODS Participants completed structured interview questions about condom usage and failure every 3-6 months. Robust Poisson regression models with generalized estimating equations were used to estimate relative risks and 95% confidence intervals for prespecified factors potentially associated with condom failure in the previous month. RESULTS From September 2013 to September 2019, 2221 of 2737 participants (81.1%) reported condom use for anal sex with a male partner in the last month, and 305 (13.7%) reported condom failure during this time. Multivariate analyses demonstrated an increased risk of condom failure at postenrollment visits, as well as in participants who reported frequent Internet use, 2 or more casual sexual partners, and 2-4 main sexual partners. Those who cohabited with a woman had reduced risk. CONCLUSIONS Condom failure was common in this population despite freely available condoms, compatible lubrication, and education. Increased risk of condom failure over time could reflect message fatigue a ceiling for effective condom use, or new uptake of condoms by inexperienced users.
