Abstract
OBJECTIVES Older adults are a vulnerable group that is at risk of poor nutritional status, which can lead to disease and increase their healthcare costs. Our study aimed to investigate the impact of a self-efficacy intervention on the nutritional status of older adults. METHODS A controlled before and after study was conducted on 110 older adults in the Mashhad, Iran, from 2020 to 2022. Participants were randomly allocated to the intervention (n = 55) and control groups (n = 55). Participants in the intervention group received educational training that was based on the self-efficacy theory. The control group received the routine care. Data collection tools included demographic information questionnaire, Mini Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire, and standard self-efficacy questionnaire. The questionnaires were completed at baseline (before intervention), instantly after the intervention, and at 3-months follow-up by participants in both groups. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25 and the significance level was considered less than 0.05. RESULTS The Mean of nutritional status in the intervention group, at the baseline, immediately after intervention and 3 months of follow-up were 25.1 ± 2.3, 28.3 ± 5.2 and 27.6 ± 6., respectively. This increase was significant (p < 0.001). Our findings revealed that self-efficacy among participants in the intervention group significantly changed (P < 0.001) across time from baseline through follow-up. There was no significant difference in the mean of self-efficacy and nutritional status in the control group during the study period (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION This current study provided a basis to examine in the effectiveness of such intervention using a properly powered randomized controlled study. Therefore, it can be concluded that self-efficacy interventions are a promising approach to improving the nutritional behaviors of the older adults. TRIAL REGISTRATION IRCT20160619028529N9.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parish nursing is a specialized branch of professional nursing that promotes health and healing by integrating body, mind and spirit as a practice model. Parish nurses contribute to the Canadian nursing workforce by promoting individual and community health and acting as system navigators. Research related to parish nursing practice has not been systematically collated and evaluated. PURPOSE This review seeks to explore, critically appraise and synthesize the parish nurse (PN) research literature for its breadth and gaps, and to provide recommendations for PN practice and research. METHODS A scoping review was conducted using Levac and colleagues' procedures and Arksey and O'Malley's enhanced framework. The CINAHL, ProQuest and PubMed databases were comprehensively searched for original research published between 2008 and 2020. The final sample includes 43 articles. The Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool was used to critically assess literature quality. RESULTS There is a significant gap in PN research from Canada and non-U.S. countries. Methodological quality is varied with weak overall reporting. The literature is categorized under three thematic areas: (1) practice roles of the PN, (2) role implementation, and (3) program evaluation research. Research that evaluates health promotion program interventions is prominent. CONCLUSIONS More rigorous research methods and the use of reporting checklists are needed to support evidence-informed parish nursing practice. Building relationships among parish nurses, nursing researchers and universities could advance parish nursing research and improve evidence-based parish nursing practice. Research into the cost effectiveness, healthcare outcomes, and the economic value of PN practice is needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Unhealthy behaviors are significant contributors to non-communicable diseases. Nurses can support patient health behavior change by providing brief behavior change counseling. However, training programs in brief counseling are generally not personalized, or adapted, to the barriers and theoretical determinants of its provision in clinical practice. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the E_MOTIVA theory-based adaptive e-learning program on nurses' and nursing students' intentions to provide brief counseling for smoking, unhealthy eating habits and medication nonadherence. DESIGN AND METHODS A randomized controlled trial was conducted with nurses and nursing students in Canada. Experimental group participants were allocated to the E_MOTIVA theory-based adaptive e-learning program. Control group participants were allocated to the E_MOTIVB knowledge-based standardized e-learning program. E_MOTIVA was designed to influence the constructs of the Theory of Planned Behavior (e.g., attitude, subjective norms) in relation to brief counseling. Outcomes were improvement in intention to provide brief counseling, improvement in other Theory of Planned Behavior variables, as well as cognitive load and engagement related to e-learning. RESULTS A total of 102 participants were randomized to the experimental (n = 51) and control (n = 51) groups. End of study questionnaires were completed by 27 experimental group and 38 control group participants. Analyses indicated no significant differences between groups in the change of scores for intention to provide brief counseling. However, while not significant, the change of score was greater in the experimental group (10.22 ± 3.34 versus 9.04 ± 2.80; p = 0.787). Scores in both groups improved significantly for attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, behavioral beliefs, and control beliefs. However, there were no statistically significant differences between groups for these variables as well as for cognitive load and engagement. CONCLUSIONS Both e-learning programs had a similar positive effect on nurses' and nursing students' intentions to provide brief counseling and on Theory of Planned Behavior variables. Abstract
Heart disease, diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2, and obesity are three of the most prevalent diseases in the USA. Some obesity-related comorbidities are disproportionately higher within African-American and Hispanic communities. While governmental and local health programs offer educational opportunities encouraging long-term health behavior changes, the most accessible programs have been through faith-based communities. This narrative review investigates the outcomes of faith-based wellness programs on Latino and African-American populations with respect to general health and wellness, obesity management, DM type 2, and hypertension. Perceived authority of faith community nurses, faith leaders, and accountability and encouragement provided by faith communities are critical. Long-term behavior change is positively affected by elements faith-based organizations can provide: cultural appropriateness, community support, and self-efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a lack of instruments to measure the ability of health professionals to promote dietary advice according to dietary guidelines. AIM To develop and validate a web-based and self-applied scale for measuring primary health care (PHC) professionals' self-efficacy and collective efficacy to apply the Brazilian Dietary Guidelines for dietary advice. METHODS Methodological procedures comprised six steps: development of the items; content validation with panel of experts; face validation through focus group conducted with PHC professionals; online reevaluation by the participants of content and face validation panels; online application with PHC professionals working all over Brazil's macro-regions; confirmatory factorial analysis to test construct validity. RESULTS The scale was initially developed with 22 items. After content and face validation panels, changes in content and semantics were performed. The second version consisted of 24 items equally divided into part A (self-efficacy) and B (collective efficacy). All items, when reevaluated, were considered clear and representative of the Brazilian Dietary Guidelines' chapters. The multidimensional model was shown to have excellent fit indices in the confirmatory factorial analysis. The scale's peak of information was centered around the mean, indicating that both domains are more precise for perception of self-efficacy and collective efficacy on average values. CONCLUSION The scale demonstrated validity for measuring PHC professionals' perceived self-efficacy and collective efficacy to apply the Brazilian Dietary Guidelines. To our knowledge, this is the first valid scale for measuring the capability of PHC professionals to apply national dietary guidelines for healthy diet promotion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES (1) To systematically review the literature on behavior change counseling (BCC) training programs targeting nurses and nursing students; (2) to characterize these training programs according to their content (i.e., targeted health behavior[s], BCC approaches taught, BCC techniques taught), structure, and modes of delivery. DESIGN A systematic, descriptive literature review. DATA SOURCES PubMed, CINAHL and Embase were searched with no time limitation in August 2018. REVIEW METHODS A systematic, descriptive literature review structured according to Paré et al.'s methodology and the PRISMA guidelines. Primary studies were included if they evaluated a BCC training program with nurses or nursing students. Review authors screened studies, extracted data, and assessed study quality using the MERSQI. Data was synthesized through narrative synthesis, descriptive statistics, and content analysis. RESULTS From a pool of 267 articles, we included 25 articles published between 2003 and 2018. Two studies scored as low quality (8%), 18 as moderate quality (72%), and 5 as high quality (20%). Physical activity (n = 14; 56%) and smoking (n = 11; 44%) were the most frequently targeted health behaviors. Eleven BCC approaches were cited (e.g., motivational interviewing), and 48 BCC techniques were identified (e.g., eliciting and scaling change talk). The median number of training sessions was 3 (interquartile range [IQR] 5), the median training program duration was 3 h (IQR 6.25 h), and median training period was 24.5 days (IQR 110 days). Programs were most often delivered as seminars and workshops. CONCLUSIONS High-quality studies reporting the assessment of BCC training programs with nurses and nursing students are scarce. There was significant heterogeneity in terms of the BCC approaches and techniques taught. Current evidence suggests nurses and nursing students learn BCC mainly through active, realistic practice. However, computer-based training programs are rapidly gaining ground. Further research emphasizing theory-based BCC training programs is warranted.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe food and beverage provisions by Faith Communities from one denomination in association with events for children. DESIGN, SAMPLE AND MEASURES Foods and beverages provided at 32 child-focused activities were documented using direct observation methodology and analyzed for contribution to food groups and per serving energy, fat, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium contents. RESULTS Main dishes were mostly (71%) convenience/casserole-type foods, and averaged 962 mg sodium and 436 kcal, with 36% of energy from fat and 14% as saturated fat. Cheese was the main source of dairy products. Grain-based side dishes, provided at 29% of meals, included white rice, pasta, and bread. Non-starchy vegetables were provided at three (29%) meals. Fruits were served at six events. Desserts, served at 75% of events, contained 41% of energy from fat, with 17% as saturated fat, and 22 g of added sugar. Snack chips, provided at 31% of events, contributed 165 kcal mostly from fat and 243 mg of sodium. Sugar-sweetened beverages, served at 71% of events, contributed 28 g of added sugar. CONCLUSIONS This pilot investigation identified areas for improvements in the nutritional quality of foods/beverages served at faith community child-focused events and aligns with expanding public health efforts to improve child nutrition beyond traditional settings.
