Nurse Educ Pract 2023; 73:103842. [PMID: 37984161 DOI: 10.1016/j.nepr.2023.103842] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 08/03/2023] [Revised: 11/05/2023] [Accepted: 11/09/2023] [Indexed: 11/22/2023]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Humanistic practice ability serves as an indispensable skills that newly graduated nurses strive to develop. Yet, there is a dearth of knowledge regarding the role of organizational socialization in mediating the association between transition shock and humanistic practice ability in Chinese newly graduated nurses. AIM To breakdown the association between humanistic practice ability and transition shock among Chinese newly graduated nurses, with a simultaneous concentration on the mediating effect of organizational socialization in the association. DESIGN Utilizing a descriptive cross-sectional study design, this research aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the variables being examined. METHODS A web-based survey was completed by 417 newly graduated nurses from three general public hospitals in Shandong Province, eastern China from February to March 2023. Three questionnaires were administered: the Nurse Humanistic Practice Ability Scale (NHPAS), the Organizational Socialization Questionnaire(OSQ) and the Transition shock of Newly Graduated Nurses Scale (TSNGNS). The IBM SPSS 22.0, AMOS 22.0 and GraphPad Prism 9.0.0 was applied for figure preparation and statistical analyses. RESULTS Findings indicated a significant statistical association among organizational socialization, transition shock and humanities practicing ability. A significant negative correlation was uncovered between OrS and TrS (r=-0.468, p<0.001), significant and negative correlation (r = -0.412, p < 0.001) was unmasked between the TrS and the HPA,whereas a significant positive correlation was observed between OrS and HPA (r=0.641, p<0.001). Moreover, in the mediation models, organizational socialization was identified as a partial mediating role in the association between transition shock and humanities practicing ability (indirect effect -0.324, p<0.001; direct effect -0.100, p =0.026; total effect -0.424, p =0.001). CONCLUSION/IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE TrS has a significantly negative influence on HPA among newly graduated nurses, and OrS partially mediating the negative effect of TrS on HPA. Nursing managers and nursing educators can reduce the adverse consequences resulted from TrS through enhancing the benefits of organizational socialization programs and eventually improve the level of HPA of newly graduated nurses.

Abstract
In addition to physical disorders, people with hemophilia face complex psychological problems. Hence, protective factors such as coping strategies, social support, and spirituality to improve psychological health should be determined. This study examined the role of courageous coping as a mediator in the interrelationships between spirituality as well as social support and resilience among adolescents with hemophilia. In this descriptive-analytical study, the participants were 372 adolescents with hemophilia aged 11-21 years. Connor-Davidson resilience scale, Jalowiec Coping scale, Perceived Social Support Scale, and spirituality scale were the instruments used in this study. The analysis results of Pearson correlation revealed a significant positive relationship between spirituality as well as social support and resilience. Also, it was determined that courageous coping is a thorough mediator between spirituality and resilience. The mediating role of courageous coping did not reach meaningful levels between social support and resilience, meaning that zero was included in bootstrap interval, CI 95% (β =.026, CI [-.002, .089]). Social support, adopting a spiritual strategy, and using coping strategies played a crucial role among the adolescents to promote their level of resilience to cope with hemophilia.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between spirituality and hopelessness in cancer patients. The study used a cross-sectional and correlational design and included 650 cancer patients. The data were collected using a patient information form, the Spiritual Orientation Scale, and the Beck Hopelessness Scale. The data were analyzed by MANOVA and linear regression analysis. Cancer patients had high levels of spirituality (89.74 ± 32.79) and low levels of hopelessness (6.50 ± 5.61). A statistically significant relationship was found between the mean Spiritual Orientation Scale scores of the patients and their sociodemographic characteristics (sex, age, marital status, educational status, employment status, income) (p < 0.05). A statistically significant relationship was found between the mean Beck Hopelessness Scale scores of the patients and their sociodemographic characteristics (age, marital status, income status) (p < 0.05). According to the linear regression analysis, a significant negative correlation was found between the spirituality and hopelessness levels of the patients (p < 0.01, R2 = 0.503, b = - 0.641). As the patients' spirituality increased, their levels of hopelessness decreased.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hemodialysis patients deal with some psychological and social problems. These problems may be the predictors of hope. This study aimed to determine the psychosocial, spiritual, and biomedical predictors of hope in hemodialysis patients. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted on 350 hemodialysis patients in hemodialysis centers affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Adult Hope Scale, Depression Anxiety Stress Scales, Personal Resources Questionnaire-85, Spiritual Well-Being Scale, and biomedical markers were used for data collection. The data were entered into the SPSS 22 software and were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient and linear regression analysis. RESULTS The mean score of hope was 28.54 (SD=5.27). The mean scores of depression, anxiety, and stress were 17.87 (SD=7.62), 13.12 (SD=3.47), and 12.99 (SD=3.88), respectively. The mean scores of social support and spiritual well-being were 126.35 (SD=17.53) and 74.02 (SD=5.84), respectively. The means of biomedical markers including interdialytic weight gain, urea nitrogen, creatinine, phosphate, sodium, and potassium were 2.10 (SD=1.04), 51.55 (SD=13.10), 6.98 (SD=2.48), 4.71 (SD=1.08), 139.32 (SD=4.91), and 4.87 (SD=0.93), respectively. The results revealed a significant association between hope and depression, anxiety, stress, social support, and spiritual well-being (p<0.05). In addition, stress (β=-0.14, p=0.01), anxiety (β=-0.20, p=0.002), and social support (β=0.49, p<0.001) were the predictors of hope. CONCLUSION The hemodialysis patients reported moderate levels of hope, social support, anxiety, and depression. In addition, most of them adhered to dietary and fluid restrictions. Considering the association between hope and social support, spiritual well-being, anxiety, depression, and stress, using some interventions regarding the mentioned variables might increase hope among hemodialysis patients.

Abstract
Background: The families of children with congenital heart disease experience significant stress as to the care of the child and need
to cope with stress. Accordingly, understanding of how families cope and use coping strategies is more important to help
them better cope with stressful situations caused by caregiving. This study aimed to explore coping strategies used by families in the face of caregiving stress. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted on 40 eligible participants from the families of children with congenital heart disease. They were
recruited through a purposive sampling method from those referred to hospitals in Mashhad, Iran. In-depth and semi-structured interviews
were used for data collection from November 2017 to December 2018. The data were analyzed using conventional content analysis,
and MAXQDA software (Ver.2010) was used to manage the data encoding process. Results: According to the results, effort to maintain well-being emerged as the main theme which included five categories:
“spirituality in caregiving”, “acceptance and adjustment”, “optimism and hopefulness”, “self-control and patience”, and “ management of psychological needs”. Conclusion: Families used various coping strategies including spirituality, acceptance, optimism, patience, and management of psychological
needs based on their beliefs, attitudes, abilities, and available resources for coping with caregiving stress. The results can help
the nurses and health care professionals to develop appropriate educational, supportive, and psychological interventions based
on the family’s needs to cope effectively with caregiving stress.

Abstract
Introduction Providing social support for patients under hemodialysis treatment can reduce their psychological, social, and physical problems. The present study aimed at determining the effect of peer support on hopefulness in patients under hemodialysis. Methods This clinical trial with a pre/posttest design was conducted on 128 patients who had referred to the hemodialysis centers of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2019. The patients were randomly divided into an intervention and a control group. The patients in the intervention group were supported by their peers for eight weeks and were provided with the usual care, but the controls were only provided with the usual care. The data were collected using Snyder Hope Scale. Then, the data were entered into the SPSS software, version 18 and were analyzed using independent t-test and paired t-test. Results At baseline, the participants in both groups were similar with respect to the mean scores of hope and its subscales (p>0.05). However, there was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of hope and its subscales eight weeks after the intervention (p<0.001). Conclusion The results confirmed the effect of peer support on increasing hope among the patients under hemodialysis. Peer support in informational, emotional, instrumental, and spiritual forms could create a positive incentive and increase hope among the patients. Clinical Trial Number This clinical trial has been registered in the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT20190126042498N1).
