Abstract
In the current study, we used molecular screening and simulation approaches to target I7L protease from monkeypox virus (mpox) from the Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCM) database. Using molecular screening, only four hits TCM27763, TCM33057, TCM34450 and TCM31564 demonstrated better pharmacological potential than TTP6171 (control). Binding of these molecules targeted Trp168, Asn171, Arg196, Cys237, Ser240, Trp242, Glu325, Ser326, and Cys328 residues and may affect the function of I7L protease in in vitro assay. Moreover, molecular simulation revealed stable dynamics, tighter structural packing and less flexible behaviour for all the complexes. We further reported that the average hydrogen bonds in TCM27763, TCM33057, TCM34450 and TCM31564I7L complexes remained higher than the control drug. Finally, the BF energy results revealed -62.60 ± 0.65 for the controlI7L complex, for the TCM27763I7L complex -71.92 ± 0.70 kcal/mol, for the TCM33057I7L complex the BF energy was -70.94 ± 0.70 kcal/mol, for the TCM34450I7L the BF energy was -69.94 ± 0.85 kcal/mol while for the TCM31564I7L complex the BF energy was calculated to be -69.16 ± 0.80 kcal/mol. Although, we used stateoftheart computational methods, these are theoretical insights that need further experimental validation.

Abstract
Dihydromyricetin (DHM) is a phytochemical with multiple bioactivities. However, its poor liposolubility limits its application in the field. In this study, DHM was acylated with different fatty acid vinyl esters to improve its lipophilicity, and five DHM acylated derivatives with different carbon chain lengths (C2-DHM, C4-DHM, C6-DHM, C8-DHM, and C12-DHM) and different lipophilicity were synthesized. The relationship between the lipophilicity and antioxidant activities of DHM and its derivatives was evaluated with oil and emulsion models using chemical and cellular antioxidant activity (CAA) tests. The capacity of DHM derivatives to scavenge 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH•) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical (ABTS+•) was similar to that of DHM, except for C12-DHM. The antioxidant activity of DHM derivatives was lower than that of DHM in sunflower oil, while C4-DHM exhibited better antioxidant capacity in oil-in-water emulsion. In CAA tests, C8-DHM (median effective dose (EC50) 35.14 μmol/L) exhibited better antioxidant activity than that of DHM (EC50: 226.26 μmol/L). The results showed that in different antioxidant models, DHM derivatives with different lipophilicity had various antioxidant activities, which has guiding significance for the use of DHM and its derivatives.

Abstract
Tetrahydro-β-carbolines (THβCs) are a kind of natural alkaloids with multiple pharmaceutical activities. Herein, a focused compound library derived from THβCs was synthesized and their anticancer activities were studied in several cancer cell lines. Among them, three compounds showed considerable anticancer activities with low micromolar to submicromolar IC50 values. The abilities to induce apoptosis and alter mitochondrial membrane potential levels, which are comparable to those of the commercial anticancer drug adriamycin, were confirmed by one representative compound (21) on the B16/F10 cell line. Our preliminary structure-activity relationship studies indicated that alkylamines with suitable lengths are very important for potency improvement.

The highlight is placed on changing major physicochemical parameters, including log p, bond dissociation energy, ionization potential, and others which result in improved antioxidant activity.

Abstract
Polyphenols, as secondary metabolites from plants, possess a natural antioxidant capacity and biological activities attributed to their chemical and structural characteristics. Due to their mostly polar character, polyphenols present a low solubility in less polar environments or hydrophobic matrices. However, in order to make polyphenols able to incorporate in oils and fats, a transformation strategy is necessary. For the above, the functionalization of polyphenols through chemical or enzymatic lipophilization has allowed the synthesis of phenolipids. These are amphipilic molecules that preserve the natural phenolic core to which an aliphatic motif is attached by esterification or transesterification reactions. The length of the aliphatic chain in phenolipids allows them to interact with different systems (such as emulsions, oily molecules, micelles and cellular membranes), which would favor their use in processed foods, as vehicles for drugs, antimicrobial agents, antioxidants in the cosmetic industry and even in the treatment of degenerative diseases related to oxidative stress.

Abstract
This study aimed to explore the enzymatic acylation of dihydromyricetin (DHM) to synthesized DHM derivatives with a different substituted carbon chain to improve its liposolubility. In the presence of Lipozyme TL IM, DHM was butyrylated in a 96.28% conversion in methyl tert-butyl ether under the optimized conditions (molar ratio of DHM to vinyl butyrate, 1:20; lipase dosage, 0.4 U/mg DHM; temperature, 50 °C; stirrer speed, 200 rpm; reaction time, 72 h). Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy revealed that two acylation products were formed; these were 7-O-acyl-DHM and 3-O-acyl-DHM. In addition, the liposolubility of the DHM derivatives increased with the increase in the substituted carbon chain length; their antioxidant activities were higher than that of DHM in the lecithin peroxidation system, and C8-DHM had a better effect. Therefore, enzymatic acylation broadens the application of DHM in a lipid system in the food field.

Abstract
Increasing interest has been shown in phenolic compounds for enhancing food quality, but their hydrophilicity restricts application in lipophilic systems. Therefore, in this study, twelve hydroxycinnamates derivatives (alkyl and steryl esters of sinapic acid (SA), caffeic acid (CA), and ferulic acid [FA]) were synthesised and evaluated for antioxidant and cytotoxic characteristics. CA esters had the highest radical scavenging activity (RSA) analysed by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) assays. Values of inhibitory concentration (IC50) of synthesised compounds were related to their structure and lipophilicity. The effect of these hydroxycinnamic acid esters on the antioxidant potential of real samples (rapeseed oil, margarine and mayonnaise) was estimated. None of the investigated derivatives significantly affected the viability of the model intestinal cells Caco2, while the octyl esters demonstrated a toxic effect at low concentrations. The synthesised esters exerted cytotoxic and anti-proliferative effects against transformed cell lines (HeLa and A549). Octyl esters were potent anticancer compounds on two human cancer cell lines. The synthesised phenolipids, as valuable and safe antioxidant additives, can find broader applications in the production of fat-based products to prevent oxidation processes, extend their shelf life and improve quality.

Abstract
We previously reported that Lepechinia meyenii (Walp.) Epling has antioxidant and aldose reductase (AR) inhibitory activities. In this study, L. meyenii was extracted in a 50% MeOH and CH2Cl2/MeOH system. The active extracts of MeOH and 50% MeOH were subjected to fractionation, followed by separation using high-speed counter-current chromatography (HSCCC) and preparative HPLC. Separation and identification revealed the presence of caffeic acid, hesperidin, rosmarinic acid, diosmin, methyl rosmarinate, diosmetin, and butyl rosmarinate. Of these, rosmarinic acid, methyl rosmarinate, and butyl rosmarinate possessed remarkable antioxidant and AR inhibitory activities. The other compounds were less active. In particular, rosmarinic acid is the key contributor to the antioxidant and AR inhibitory activities of L. meyenii; it is rich in the MeOH extract (333.84 mg/g) and 50% MeOH extract (135.41 mg/g) of L. meyenii and is especially abundant in the EtOAc and n-BuOH fractions (373.71-804.07 mg/g) of the MeOH and 50% MeOH extracts. The results clarified the basis of antioxidant and AR inhibitory activity of L. meyenii, adding scientific evidence supporting its traditional use as an anti-diabetic herbal medicine. The HSCCC separation method established in this study can be used for the preparative separation of rosmarinic acid from natural products.

Abstract
Lipid oxidation is a major concern in the food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical sectors. The degradation of unsaturated lipids affects the nutritional, physicochemical, and organoleptic properties of products and can lead to off-flavors and to the formation of potentially harmful oxidation compounds. To prevent or slow down lipid oxidation, different antioxidant additives are used alone or in combination to achieve the best possible efficiency with the minimum possible quantities. In manufactured products, that is, heterogeneous systems containing lipids as emulsions or bulk phase, the efficiency of an antioxidant is determined not only by its chemical reactivity, but also by its physical properties and its interaction with other compounds present in the products. The antioxidants most widely used on the industrial scale are probably tocopherols, either as natural extracts or pure synthetic molecules. Considerable research has been conducted on their antioxidant activity, but results regarding their efficiency are contradictory. Here, we review the known mechanisms behind the antioxidant activity of tocopherols and discuss the chemical and physical features that determine their efficacy. We first describe their chemical reactivity linked with the main factors that modulate it between efficient antioxidant capacity and potential prooxidant effects. We then describe their chemical interactions with other molecules (phenolic compounds, metals, vitamin C, carotenes, proteins, and phospholipids) that have potential additive, synergistic, or antagonist effects. Finally, we discuss other physical parameters that influence their activity in complex systems including their specific interactions with surfactants in emulsions and their behavior in the presence of association colloids in bulk oils.

Abstract
Lipophenols are an emerging subclass of phenolic compounds characterized by the presence of a lipid moiety. Recently, hydroxytyrosyl oleate (HtyOle), a derivative of hydroxytyrosol, has been identified in olive oil and by-products. Furthermore, HtyOle possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and tissue regenerating properties. In this work, the potential occurrence of tyrosyl oleate (TyOle) in olive oil was investigated based on the hypothesis that its precursors tyrosol and oleic acid, both present in relatively high amount can be coupled together. Moreover, TyOle effects have been investigated in human keratinocytes to verify its proliferative and antioxidant properties. The quantitative determination of TyOle was carried out by the external standard method in liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC/MS), in negative mode using multiple reaction monitoring (MRM). The proliferative properties of TyOle on immortalized human keratinocytes (HaCat) were evaluated by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiasol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Morphological changes were observed by fluorescent staining with phalloidin (for F-actin) or 4,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI, for chromatin) dye. The antioxidant activity was assessed at the level of production of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced with UV exposure. TyOle was identified in all the oil samples investigated. Interestingly, TyOle concentration was higher in defective or low-quality oils than in extra virgin oils. The formation of TyOle likely occurs during the crushing and kneading processes and its concentration is related to the increase of rancidity and of the concentration of free precursors. Herein we show that TyOle induced an increase in the viability of HaCat cells and cytoskeletal remodeling.

Abstract
Novel hydroxyalkyl esters and bis-aryl esters were synthesized from sinapic and caffeic acids and aliphatic α,ω-diols of increasing chain lengths from 2 to 12 carbon atoms. Then, their antiradical reactivity (DPPH assay) and their antioxidant activity in a model oil-in-water emulsion (CAT assay) were evaluated. All the esters showed lower antiradical activities compared to their corresponding phenolic acid. This decrease was associated with the steric hindrance in hydroxyalkyl esters, and intramolecular interactions in bis-aryl esters. Regarding the two bis-aryl esters series in emulsion, the antioxidant capacity was improved with alkyl chain lengthening up to four carbons, after which it decreased for longer chains. This "cutoff" effect was not observed for both hydroxyalkyl esters series for which the alkyl chain lengthening results in a decrease of the antioxidant activity.

Abstract
Enzymatic acylation is commonly used to increase the lipophilicity of flavonoids. However, the absence of primary hydroxyl groups makes it challenging to acylate baicalin using traditional acylation methods. In this study, an enzymatic esterification strategy was developed to introduce fatty-acid chains into baicalin at its carboxyl group, hence successfully synthesizing a new series of baicalin ester derivatives in nonaqueous media. Under the optimal reaction conditions, up to 95% conversion of baicalin was achieved. Antimicrobial evaluation of the baicalin ester derivatives indicated a corresponding increase to that of C log P values, with a cutoff effect at C log P = 5.2. Baicalin ester derivatives with C log P values of 4.9-5.2 exhibited the most potent antimicrobial activity. Interestingly, the introduction of medium-length fatty alcohol chains not only increased lipophilicity but also endowed them with membrane-disrupting properties. This study, therefore, provides an understanding of the esterification of flavonoid glycosides and a prospective application of the ester derivatives.

Abstract
Recently, we identified hydroxytyrosyl oleate (HtyOle) in the by-products of olive oil, pomace and olive mill waste water (OMWW). Herein, we report that HtyOle is more accurately quantified by extracting the phenolic fraction from both matrices by using aqueous methanol (80%). By applying this method, HtyOle was also detected in extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Since olive oil is used in the preparation of many cosmetic formulations, we explored the antioxidant capacity of HtyOle in human keratinocytes. Formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA), as well as activity of Glutathione-S-transferase (GST) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were decreased by HtyOle. In addition to that, microRNAs (miRs) involved in both redox status balance and skin regeneration potential were also tested. The following miRs, hsa-miR-21 and hsa-miR-29a, were increased while has-miR-34a was not affected by HtyOle.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Under conditions of oxidative stress, cholesterol aggregates into discrete membrane bilayer domains that precipitate the formation of extracellular crystals, a feature of advanced atheroma in cardiovascular disease. Therapeutic interventions using membrane-directed antioxidants, such as polyphenolic esters, may reduce cholesterol domains and crystal formation. In this study, the effects of rosmarinic acid (RC0) and rosmarinic esters, with alkyl chain lengths ranging from 4 to 16‑carbons (RC4-RC16), on membrane lipid oxidation and cholesterol domain formation were investigated. METHODS Model membranes were prepared with 1,2-dilinoleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine and cholesterol at different cholesterol-to-phospholipid mole ratios (0.3:1, 0.9:1, and 1.2:1), in the absence or presence of each molecule and exposed to 72 h of oxidation. Changes in lipid hydroperoxide (LOOH) and cholesterol domain formation were measured using iodometric and small angle x-ray diffraction approaches, respectively. RESULTS Rosmarinic acid and its esters had differential effects on LOOH formation based on alkyl chain length. RC8 exhibited the greatest antioxidant effect, reducing LOOH levels by 82%, and inhibited cholesterol domain formation. By contrast, RC0 and RC16 failed to inhibit either LOOH formation or cholesterol domain formation. CONCLUSION These data indicate that the membrane antioxidant and cholesterol domain inhibition activities of rosmarinic acid esters are dependent, nonlinearly, on alkyl chain length. The mechanism for this effect is attributed to the influence of alkyl chain length on the optimal depth of the polyphenols into the lipid bilayer for trapping free radicals. GENERAL SIGNIFICANCE These findings provide insight into novel atheroprotective benefits of polyphenol esters that are dependent on their membrane location.

Abstract
Hydroxytyrosyl esters with short, medium and long acyl chains were evaluated for their ability to reduce nitric oxide (NO) production by lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages. Among the compounds tested, C18 esters, namely hydroxytyrosyl stearate (HtySte) and hydroxytyrosyl oleate (HtyOle), were found to decrease NO production in a concentration-dependent manner, while the other compounds, including the parent hydroxytyrosol, were ineffective in the tested concentration range (0.5-5 μM). Further study of the potential immune-modulating properties of HtyOle revealed a significant and concentration-dependent suppression of prostaglandin E2 production. At a transcriptional level, HtyOle inhibited the expression of inducible NO synthase, cyclooxygenase-2 and interleukin-1β. Moreover, HtyOle was identified for the first time in olive oil by-products by means of high performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. By contrast, HtyOle was not found in intact olives. Our results suggest that HtyOle is formed during oil processing and represents a significant form in which hydroxytyrosol occurs.

Abstract
Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a dose-limiting complication which develops as a consequence of treatment with chemotherapeutic agents like oxaliplatin and is a mainstay of therapy for colorectal cancer. Ever since CIPN was identified, understanding its exact pathomechanisms remains a clinical challenge. The role of mitochondrial dysfunction and glial cell activation has surfaced in the etiology of CIPN. Rosmarinic acid (RA), a known mitoprotectant exerts neuroprotection against the oxidative stress and neuroinflammation in various disease conditions. Hence, in the present study, we investigated the effect using rosmarinic acid (25 and 50 mg/kg, po) in the experimental model of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (OIPN) in rats. Results showed that RA significantly (p < 0.001) prevented the functional deficits, reversed oxaliplatin-induced mechanical allodynia and cold hyperalgesia in rats. It reduced the oxidative stress, improved the mitochondrial function, and prevented the oxaliplatin-induced loss of ATP levels. RA significantly (p < 0.01) inhibited the spinal glial cell activation and suppressed the expression of inflammatory markers. RA treatment also resulted in the activation of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in the peripheral nerves and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) which also might have contributed to its neuroprotective actions. In vitro screening also revealed that RA did not compromise the anti-cancer activity of oxaliplatin in colon cancer cells (HT-29). Taken together, the above results demonstrate the therapeutic activity of RA against the oxaliplatin-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and neuroinflammation and thus, suggest its potential for the management of OIPN. Abstract
Persistent accumulation of reactive oxygen species causes cellular oxidative stress which contributes strongly towards the induction and progression of various diseases. Therapeutic focus has therefore shifted towards the use of antioxidants, with recent interest in those of plant origin. In the current study, rosmarinic acid (RA) and its key metabolites were evaluated in non-cellular and cellular antioxidant assays, using quercetin (Q) as a positive control. The non-cellular assay was performed as scavenging of DPPH radical, whilst the cellular assay was performed as protection from an oxidant stress. Radical-scavenging activity of RA and two of its primary metabolites, CA and DHPLA, were comparable to that of Q, whilst FA was of lower potency and m-CoA was inactive. In the cellular assay, RA and CA were markedly less potent than Q, with DHPLA, FA and m-CoA being inactive, this being true in short-term (5-h) or long-term (20-h) exposure conditions. However, antioxidant potency of Q and methyl rosmarinate, a non-ionisable ester of RA, was similar in the non-cellular and short-term cellular assays. It is proposed that marked ionisation of organic acids such as RA and its metabolites at physiological pH greatly limits their intracellular accumulation, and so attenuates intrinsic antioxidant ability demonstrated in the non-cellular assay. This study demonstrates some of the factors that prevent well-known phytochemicals from progressing further along the drug discovery chain.

Abstract
In lipid dispersions, the ability of reactants to move from one lipid particle to another is an important, yet often ignored, determinant of lipid oxidation and its inhibition by antioxidants. This review describes three putative interparticle transfer mechanisms for oxidants and antioxidants: (a) diffusion, (b) collision-exchange-separation, and (c) micelle-assisted transfer. Mechanism a involves the diffusion of molecules from one particle to another through the intervening aqueous phase. Mechanism b involves the transfer of molecules from one particle to another when the particles collide with each other. Mechanism c involves the solubilization of molecules in micelles within the aqueous phase and then their transfer between particles. During lipid oxidation, the accumulation of surface-active lipid hydroperoxides (LOOHs) beyond their critical micelle concentration may shift their mass transport from the collision-exchange-separation pathway (slow transfer) to the micelle-assisted mechanism (fast transfer), which may account for the transition from the initiation to the propagation phase. Similarly, the cut-off effect governing antioxidant activity in lipid dispersions may be due to the fact that above a certain hydrophobicity, the transfer mechanism for antioxidants changes from diffusion to collision-exchange-separation. This hypothesis provides a simple model to rationalize the design and formulation of antioxidants and dispersed lipids.

Abstract
A novel amphipathic phenolic compound, 3,5-dihydroxy-4-methoxybenzyl alcohol (DHMBA), that can be isolated from the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) has been found to protect human hepatocytes against oxidative stress. This study aims to establish a method for the measurement of DHMBA for industrial application. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry using deuterated DHMBA as an internal standard and a polar end-capped ODS (Hypersil GOLD aQ) as the solid phase was validated. The limit of detection was 0.04 pmol (S/N = 5), and the limit of quantitation was 0.1 pmol (S/N = 10). The calibration curve was linear throughout the range of 0.1 - 16 pmol (r(2) = 0.9995). This method successfully quantified DHMBA in oysters from 11 sea areas in Japan. The results showed that the yield of DHMBA was variable from 9.8 to 58.8 μg g(-1) whole oyster meat wet weight but not affected by the seawater temperature. The proposed LC-MS/MS method is useful in quantitative studies for DHMBA and potentially for other amphipathic substances.

Abstract
A series of amphiphilic conjugates of dihydroxy selenolane (DHS) and monoamine selenolane (MAS), which we had previously reported to inhibit lipid peroxidation and assist the oxidative protein folding reaction respectively in cell free systems, were evaluated for cytotoxicity, associated mechanisms and antioxidant effects in cells. Our results indicated that a fatty acid/alkyl group of variable chain lengths (C6-14) as a lipophilic moiety of the DHS/MAS conjugates not only improved their ability to incorporate within the plasma membrane of cells but also modulated their cytotoxicity. In the concentration range of 1-50 μM, C6 conjugates were non-toxic whereas the long chain (≥C8) conjugates showed significant cytotoxicity. The induction of toxicity investigated by the changes in membrane leakage, fluidity, mitochondrial membrane potential and annexin-V-propidium iodide (PI) staining by using flow cytometry revealed plasma membrane disintegration and subsequent induction of necrosis as the major mechanism. Further, the conjugates of DHS and MAS also showed differential as well as nonlinear tendency in cytotoxicity with respect to chain lengths and this effect was attributed to their self-aggregation properties. Compared with the parent compounds, C6 conjugates not only exhibited better antioxidant activity in terms of the induction of selenoproteins such as glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPx1), GPx4 and thioredoxin reductase 1 (TrxR1) but also protected cells from the AAPH induced oxidative stress. In conclusion, the present study suggests the importance of hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) in fine tuning the toxicity and activity of bioinspired amphiphilic antioxidants.

Abstract
The polar paradox states that polar antioxidants are more active in bulk lipids than their nonpolar counterparts, whereas nonpolar antioxidants are more effective in oil-in-water emulsion than their polar homologs. However, recent results, showing that not all antioxidants behave in a manner proposed by this hypothesis in oil and emulsion, lead us to revisit the polar paradox and to put forward new concepts, hypotheses, and theories. In bulk oil, new evidences have been brought to demonstrate that the crucial site of oxidation is not the air-oil interface, as postulated by the polar paradox, but association colloids formed with traces of water and surface active molecules such as phospholipids. The role of these association colloids on lipid oxidation and its inhibition by antioxidant is also addressed as well as the complex influence of the hydrophobicity on the ability of antioxidants to protect lipids from oxidation. In oil-in water emulsion, we have covered the recently discovered non linear (or cut-off) influence of the hydrophobicity on antioxidant capacity. For the first time, different mechanisms of action are formulated in details to try to account for this nonlinear effect. As suggested by the great amount of biological studies showing a cut-off effect, this phenomenon could be widespread in dispersed lipid systems including emulsions and liposomes as well as in living systems such as cultured cells. Works on the cut-off effect paves the way for the determination of the critical chain length which corresponds to the threshold beyond which antioxidant capacity suddenly collapses. The systematic search for this new physico-chemical parameter will allow designing novel phenolipids and other amphiphilic antioxidants in a rational fashion. Finally, in both bulk oils and emulsions, we feel that it is now time for a paradigm shift from the polar paradox to the next theories.

Abstract
4-Vinyl guaiacol (2) was lipophilized through the electrophilic addition of peracids to its vinylic double bond. Those peracids were formed in situ, by the Candida antarctica lipase-B-assisted perhydrolysis of carboxylic acids ranging from C2 to C18, in hydrogen peroxide solution. The addition of peracids with 4-8 carbons in their alkyl chains led to the formation of two regioisomers, with the prevalence of hydroxyesters bearing a primary free hydroxyl (4c-4e). This prevalence became more pronounced when peracids with longer alkyl chains (C10-C18) were used. In this case, only isomers 4f-4h were formed. The antioxidant activity of the resulting hydroxyesters was assessed by means of the conjugated autoxidizable triene (CAT) assay, and it was found out that the 4-vinyl guaiacol antioxidant activity was significantly increased by grafting alkyl chains with 2-8 carbons.
