Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to evaluate the impact of surgical intervention on anxiety levels in patients with various types of pituitary adenoma (PA). METHOD A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines until October 2022, searching Embase, PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Scopus. RESULTS A total of 32 studies were included, encompassing 2,681 patients with the mean age of 53.33 ± 6.48 years (43.4% male). Among all subtypes, 664 diagnosed with Cushing's disease (25.8%), 612 with acromegaly (23.8%), 282 with prolactinoma (10.9%), and 969 with nonfunctional pituitary adenomas (37.6%). Pituitary insufficiency was the most common complication. Considering therapeutic modalities, 515 patients (29.8%) underwent endoscopic trans-sphenoidal surgery, while 222 (12.9%) underwent microscopic trans-sphenoidal surgery. The type of trans-sphenoidal surgery was not specified in 977 (56.6%) patients. A total of 17 studies including 1510 patients which mostly assessed anxiety using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) were included in the meta-analysis. Preoperative evaluation using Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire showed a pooled score of 8.27 (95%CI 4.54-12.01), while postoperative evaluation yielded a pooled score of 6.49 (95%CI 5.35-7.63), indicating no significant difference. Preoperative SAS assessment resulted in a pooled score of 50.43 (95%CI 37.40-63.45), with postoperative pooled score of 55.91 (95%CI 49.40-62.41), showing no significant difference. CONCLUSIONS Our analysis revealed no significant difference in anxiety scores pre- and postoperatively. While our findings suggest stability in anxiety levels following surgical intervention, it is imperative to recognize the limitations of the current evidence base. The observed lack of consensus may be influenced by factors such as the heterogeneous nature of the patient population, variations in the characteristics of pituitary adenomas, diverse therapeutic approaches, and potential confounding variables such as pre-existing mental health conditions and coping mechanisms. Further research is warranted to elucidate the nuanced relationship between surgical intervention for PA and anxiety outcomes, considering these complex interactions and employing rigorous methodologies to address potential sources of bias.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous studies have explored the relationship between social participation, depression, cognitive function, and life satisfaction in community-dwelling older adults. However, the results of these studies were not consistent. Therefore, the in-depth excavation of the complex relationship mechanism between these four variables is limited. This study aims to explore whether depression and cognitive function act as the multiple mediators between social participation and life satisfaction in community-dwelling older adults. METHODS This study used the meta-analytic structural equation modeling (MASEM) approach. Six databases were comprehensively searched to investigate the relationship between social participation, depression, cognitive function, and life satisfaction in community-dwelling older adults from inception to March 1, 2023. RESULTS The analysis included 50 articles that reported 66 effect sizes (N = 161,854). The MASEM found the relationship between social participation and life satisfaction was mediated by depression [β = 0.085, 95 % CI (0.053, 0.126)] and by cognitive function [β = 0.015, 95 % CI (0.002, 0.033)], respectively. Depression and cognitive function also played multiple mediating roles between social participation and life satisfaction in community-dwelling older adults [β = 0.005, 95 % CI (0.001, 0.012)]. CONCLUSIONS There was not only a direct association between social participation and life satisfaction, but also an association through multiple mediating roles of depression and cognitive function in community-dwelling older adults. In the process of using diverse interventions to promote social participation in community-dwelling older adults, more attention should be paid to their psychological status and cognitive function to eliminate intrinsic barriers so as to improve life satisfaction effectively.

Abstract
Introduction Automation of routine clinical data shows promise in relieving health systems of the burden associated with manual data collection. Identifying consistent points of documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) provides salient targets to improve data entry quality. Using our pituitary surgery service as an exemplar, we aimed to demonstrate how process mapping can be used to identify reliable areas of documentation in the patient pathway to target structured data entry interventions. Materials and methods This mixed methods study was conducted in the largest pituitary centre in the UK. Purposive snowball sampling identified frontline stakeholders for process mapping to produce a patient pathway. The final patient pathway was subsequently validated against a real-world dataset of 50 patients who underwent surgery for pituitary adenoma. Events were categorized by frequency and mapped to the patient pathway to determine critical data points. Results Eighteen stakeholders encompassing all members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) were consulted for process mapping. The commonest events recorded were neurosurgical ward round entries (N = 212, 14.7%), pituitary clinical nurse specialist (CNS) ward round entries (N = 88, 6.12%) and pituitary MDT treatment decisions (N = 88, 6.12%) representing critical data points. Operation notes and neurosurgical ward round entries were present for every patient. 43/44 (97.7%) had a pre-operative pituitary MDT entry, pre-operative clinic letter, a post-operative clinic letter, an admission clerking entry, a discharge summary, and a post-operative histopathology pituitary multidisciplinary (MDT) team entries. Conclusion This is the first study to produce a validated patient pathway of patients undergoing pituitary surgery, serving as a comparison to optimise this patient pathway. We have identified salient targets for structured data entry interventions, including mandatory datapoints seen in every admission and have also identified areas to improve documentation adherence, both of which support movement towards automation.

Abstract
Patients with pituitary tumors may experience persistent fatigue and reduced physical activity, based on subjective measures after treatment. These symptoms may persist despite gross total resection of their tumors and biochemical normalization of pituitary function. While reduced quality of life has been commonly acknowledged in pituitary tumor patients, there is a lack of studies on what interventions may be best implemented to ameliorate these issues, particularly when hormonal levels have otherwise normalized. Aerobic exercise programs have been previously described to ameliorate symptoms of chronic fatigue and reduced physical capacity across a variety of pathologies in the literature. As such, a prescribed aerobic exercise program may be an underrecognized but potentially impactful intervention to address quality of life in pituitary tumor patients. This review seeks to summarize the existing literature on aerobic exercise interventions in patients with pituitary tumors. In addition, future areas of study are discussed, including tailoring exercise programs to the hormonal status of the patient and incorporating more objective measures in monitoring response to interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) are rare, they can cause significant morbidity and mortality. The clinical presentation of patients with non-functional pituitary adenomas (NFPA) ranges from being completely asymptomatic to causing pituitary, hypothalamic, or visual dysfunction due to their large size. Patients usually arrive with large tumors at the time of diagnosis. Objectives: Try to describe the characteristics of NFPA and explain the causes of delayed diagnosis. Methods: We carried out a retrospective study including 58 patients with NFPA and analyzed the tumor volume at the time of diagnosis and its relationship with sociodemographic and health sector variables. Results: Low socioeconomic status (SES) was associated with high tumor volume (SES 1-2 of 17.4 cm3 vs 3-6 of 11.7 cm3, p=0.018), and the time between first consultation and diagnosis was longer in the public sector than in the private sector (13.5 months vs 5.1 months). The time between the first symptom and the first consultation was shorter when they had visual impairment than when they did not (4.1 vs 18.4 months, p=0.006). CONCLUSIONS On the one hand, citizens should be made aware that a visual deficit should make them go to a medical check-up, and on the other hand, strengthen the health system so that they have the NFPA as a differential diagnosis in patients with some visual alteration. Socioeconomic inequality in our country undoubtedly puts the underprivileged at greater risk.

Fatigue and Its Contributing Factors in Chinese Patients with Primary Pituitary Adenomas. JOURNAL OF ONCOLOGY 2023; 2023:9876422. Abstract
Background. Pituitary adenomas (PAs) refers to a group of benign tumors that develop in the pituitary gland and are often characterized by fatigue. However, fatigue has not been documented in any Chinese research involving people with primary PA. The study sought to examine the prevalence, predictors, and correlation of fatigue with the quality of life (QoL) among PA patients in China. Methods. In total, 203 primary PA patients were included in this cross-sectional study. A series of questionnaires were administered, including the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI), M. D. Anderson Symptom Inventory Brain Tumor (MDASI-BT), Short-Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Data analysis was accomplished by Pearson or Spearman correlations, linear regression, and simple path analysis. Results. Severe fatigue prior to the initial diagnosis and preparation for surgery affected 50% of PA patients. Depression, sleep disturbance, and MDASI-BT symptom total scores were independently able to predict patient fatigue. Sleep disturbance mediates the influence of depression on fatigue (IE sleep = 0.296, 95% CI: LB = 0.148 to UB = 0.471). Conclusions. Chinese patients with primary PA often report experiencing fatigue. Depression and poor sleep quality were shown to be significant contributors to PA patients’ fatigue. Depression affects PA patients’ fatigue directly or indirectly. Medical professionals should take a proactive approach to PA patients suffering from fatigue before initial diagnosis and preoperative preparation to determine necessary interventions early, thus reducing fatigue and ultimately enhancing their QoL.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Despite surgical treatment, pituitary adenomas often cause long-term illness symptoms, that profoundly impact patients' quality of life physically, psychologically and socially. Healthcare professionals often fail to recognize and discuss the ensuing problems. Personal documentation, such as symptom monitoring, reflective writing or even posts on social media, may help this patient group to manage their daily life and support communication of their care needs. Documentation strategies and the role of documentation for people with long-term symptoms after pituitary adenoma surgery are currently unknown. AIM To examine the effects and strategies of documenting symptoms, activities and physical and emotional well-being among people living with long-term pituitary adenoma. METHODS In this Constructivist Grounded Theory study, 12 individuals living with long-term illness symptoms after pituitary adenoma surgery described their documentation strategies in in-depth interviews using teleconferencing and photo-elicitation between August and October 2020. RESULTS Strategies for documentation included analogue and digital media. One core category (Exercising autonomy) and three categories describing processes (Gaining insight, Striving for control and Sharing) emerged from the analysis. These three interrelated processes become an expression of autonomy to manage life and make sense of chronic illness. Personal documentation is a flexible tool that is used more extensively in times of ill health and less in times of relative well-being. Sharing documentation with healthcare professionals facilitated care planning and sharing with friends and family fostered emotional well-being. CONCLUSION Personal documentation is a valuable resource for managing life after pituitary adenoma surgery. The current findings may be relevant to other chronic illnesses. Further research exploring potential tools for personal documentation is needed. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION We deliberately chose a Constructivist Grounded Theory approach for this interview study. Using Constructivist Grounded Theory, we gave people living with long-term symptoms a voice, allowing them to freely speak about managing their illness in connection with personal documentation. The theoretical sampling approach enabled us to invite participants that could provide a broad overview of the landscape of personal documentation.

Abstract
PURPOSE Pituitary adenomas affect patients' quality-of-life (QoL) across several domains, with long-term implications even following gross-total resection or disease remission. While clinical outcomes can assess treatment efficacy, they do not capture variations in QoL. We present the development and validation of a patient reported outcome measure (PROM) for patients with pituitary adenomas undergoing transsphenoidal surgery. METHODS The COSMIN checklist informed the development of the pituitary outcome score (POS). Consecutive patients undergoing surgical treatment for suspected pituitary adenoma at a single centre were included prospectively. An expert focus group and patient interviews informed item generation. Item reduction was conducted through exploratory factor analysis and expert consensus, followed by assessment of the tool's validity, reliability, responsiveness, and interpretability. RESULTS 96 patients with a median age of 50 years validated the POS. The final questionnaire included 25 questions with four subscales: EQ-5D-5L-QoL, Visual Symptoms, Endocrine Symptoms and Nasal Symptoms. CONCLUSION The POS is the first validated PROM for patients undergoing transsphenoidal surgery for a pituitary adenoma. This PROM could be integrated into contemporary practice to provide patient-centred outcomes assessment for this patient group, aligning more closely with patient objectives.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pituitary patients often experience psychosocial symptoms associated with their condition. AIMS To explore the condition management experiences of pituitary patients and their psychosocial symptoms and to explore the impact of these on quality of life. METHODS A sample of 748 individuals aged 18 to more than 65 years) completed a questionnaire relating to quality of life and the psychosocial impact of pituitary conditions. FINDINGS Analysis of the qualitative sections using content analysis identified four themes: social isolation, emotional and behavioural issues, appearance distress and physical and cognitive effects including fatigue and pain. An overarching theme of hidden disability emerged. CONCLUSION The study identified multiple biopsychosocial factors that impact quality of life, with symptoms not visible to others most likely to impact negatively. Nurses are well placed to provide support and information to patients about the possible psychosocial impact of pituitary conditions to enable positive adjustment.

Abstract
CONTEXT Insight into the current landscape of patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures (PROM) and differences between PROs and conventional biochemical outcomes is pivotal for future implementation of PROs in research and clinical practice. Therefore, in studies among patients with acromegaly and growth hormone deficiency (GHD), we evaluated (1) used PROMs, (2) their validity, (3) quality of PRO reporting, (4) agreement between PROs and biochemical outcomes, and (5) determinants of discrepancies. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION We searched 8 electronic databases for prospective studies describing both PROs and biochemical outcomes in acromegaly and GHD patients. Quality of PRO reporting was assessed using the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL) criteria. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate determinants. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS Ninety studies were included (acromegaly: n = 53; GHD: n = 37). Besides nonvalidated symptom lists (used in 37% of studies), 36 formal PROMs were used [predominantly Acromegaly Quality of Life Questionnaire in acromegaly (43%) and Quality of Life-Assessment of Growth Hormone Deficiency in Adults in GHD (43%)]. Reporting of PROs was poor, with a median of 37% to 47% of ISOQOL items being reported per study. Eighteen (34%) acromegaly studies and 12 (32%) GHD studies reported discrepancies between PROs and biochemical outcomes, most often improvement in biochemical outcomes without change in PROs. CONCLUSIONS Prospective studies among patients with acromegaly and GHD use a multitude of PROMs, often poorly reported. Since a substantial proportion of studies report discrepancies between PROs and biochemical outcomes, PROMs are pivotal in the evaluation of disease activity. Therefore, harmonization of PROs in clinical practice and research by development of core outcome sets is an important unmet need.

Abstract
Nonfuctional pituitary neuroendocrine tumor (NF-PitNET) is highly heterogeneous and generally considered a common intracranial tumor. A series of molecules are involved in NF-PitNET pathogenesis that alter in multiple levels of genome, transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome, and those molecules mutually interact to form dynamically associated molecular-network systems. This article reviewed signaling pathway alterations in NF-PitNET based on the analyses of the genome, transcriptome, proteome, and metabolome, and emphasized signaling pathway network alterations based on the integrative omics, including calcium signaling pathway, cGMP-PKG signaling pathway, mTOR signaling pathway, PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) signaling pathway, oxidative stress response, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cell cycle dysregulation, and those signaling pathway networks are important for NF-PitNET formation and progression. Especially, this review article emphasized the altered signaling pathways and their key molecules related to NF-PitNET invasiveness and aggressiveness that are challenging clinical problems. Furthermore, the currently used medication and potential therapeutic agents that target these important signaling pathway networks are also summarized. These signaling pathway network changes offer important resources for insights into molecular mechanisms, discovery of effective biomarkers, and therapeutic targets for patient stratification, predictive diagnosis, prognostic assessment, and targeted therapy of NF-PitNET.

Abstract
Management of pituitary conditions can be problematic with many patients experiencing long-term psychological and social difficulties that impact on their quality of life. This study aimed to identify psychosocial symptoms associated with pituitary conditions that lead to poor quality of life and identify differences in symptomatology between patient groups. A survey using measures of psychological and social symptoms was sent to 2000 members of the Pituitary Foundation in January 2016. The survey was completed by 1062 patients (683 female), aged under 18 to over 65 years, using categorical age ranges. Physical and psychosocial symptoms including appearance issues, fatigue, anxiety and depression were reported. Using correlational and regression analyses, significant variation in symptoms were identified across gender, age range and condition type that were impairing patients' long-term functioning and impacting quality of life. There is a need for greater patient information and advice surrounding psychosocial symptoms of pituitary conditions.

Abstract
Objectives Brain tumors, including pituitary adenomas (PA), cause anxiety and distress, with a high unmet need for information correlating with increased anxiety. Condition-specific education may alleviate anxiety. We explored patients’ experience around the diagnosis of a PA and piloted a patient education intervention to address peridiagnostic anxiety in adults diagnosed with PA. Methods Anxiety, patient satisfaction, patient knowledge, and need for information were measured prior to, immediately after, and 1 month following the appointment in this multimethods study. A phone interview to explore patient diagnostic and intervention experiences was analyzed using qualitative methods. Results A total of 17 patients participated in the study; 15 completed the interview. The baseline need for information was high. Disease-specific anxiety decreased, and patient knowledge and satisfaction increased significantly after the initial visit. Interview analysis identified 3 main themes: (1) the importance of communication; (2) the need for information; and (3) the impact of the diagnosis on patient experience. Conclusions For patients with newly diagnosed PA, the diagnostic experience was associated with high levels of anxiety. Patients expressed a need for information. Information delivery reduced anxiety and had a positive impact on patient satisfaction. Practice Implications The study findings suggest a need for a streamlined diagnostic process with readily accessible information.

Abstract
Background Patients with pituitary tumors often live with lifelong consequences of their disease. Treatment options include surgery, radiotherapy, and medical therapy. Symptoms associated with the tumor or its treatment affect several areas of life. Patients need to adhere to long-term contact with both specialist and general health care providers due to the disease, complex treatments, and associated morbidity. The first year after pituitary surgery constitutes an important time period, with medical evaluations after surgery and decisions on hormonal substitution. The development and evaluation of extended patient support during this time are limited. Objective The aim of this study is to evaluate whether support within a person-centered care practice increases wellbeing for patients with pituitary tumors. Our main hypothesis is that the extended support will result in increased psychological wellbeing compared with the support given within standard of care. Secondary objectives are to evaluate whether the extended support, compared with standard care, will result in (1) better health status, (2) less fatigue, (3) higher satisfaction with care, (4) higher self-efficacy, (5) increased person-centered content in care documentation, and (6) sustained patient safety. Methods Within a quasiexperimental design, patients diagnosed with a pituitary tumor planned for neurosurgery are consecutively included in a pretest-posttest study performed at a specialist endocrine clinic. The control group receives standard of care after surgery, and the interventional group receives structured patient support for 1 year after surgery based on person-centeredness covering self-management support, accessibility, and continuity. A total of 90 patients are targeted for each group. Results Recruitment into the control group was performed between Q3 2015 and Q4 2017. Recruitment into the intervention group started in Q4 2017 and is ongoing until Q4 2020. The study is conducted according to the Declaration of Helsinki, and the protocol has received approval from a regional ethical review board. Conclusions This study entails an extensive intervention constructed in collaboration between clinicians, patients, and researchers that acknowledges accessibility, continuity, and self-management support within person-centeredness. The study has the potential to compare standard care to person-centered practice adapted specifically for patients with pituitary tumors and evaluated with a combination of patient-reported outcomes and patient-reported experience measures. Following the results, the person-centered practice may also become a useful model to further develop and explore person-centered care for patients with other rare, lifelong conditions. Abstract
Over the last 2 decades, advances in the diagnosis and management of pituitary diseases have made it possible to attain an endocrine "cure" in a large proportion of patients. In other words, tumors can be excised or controlled with drugs, mass effects of the lesion on surrounding structures can be solved, and pituitary deficiencies can be substituted with all relevant hormones. While this is considered a satisfactory outcome for health care providers, patients often suffer from an aftermath of prior endocrine dysfunction exposure, with irreversible effects, both physically and psychologically, which have a great impact on their everyday life. Diagnostic delay, often of several years, adds a negative impact on health perception. This affects their social, professional, and family domains and determines their future life. Understanding that this may occur is important, and health care providers should offer information to prepare the patient for this difficult journey, especially in the case of acromegaly, Cushing disease, or hypopituitarism. In order to maintain a good quality of life (QoL) in the long-term, patients need to adapt to this new situation, something that may be difficult, since they often cannot continue with all the activities and rhythm they used to do. Depression is often the consequence of maladaptation to the new situation, leading to impaired QoL.

Abstract
Protein ubiquitination is an important post-translational modification that is associated with multiple diseases, including pituitary adenomas (PAs). Protein ubiquitination profiling in human pituitary and PAs remains unknown. Here, we performed the first ubiquitination analysis with an anti-ubiquitin antibody (specific to K-ε-GG)-based label-free quantitative proteomics method and bioinformatics to investigate protein ubiquitination profiling between PA and control tissues. A total of 158 ubiquitinated sites and 142 ubiquitinated peptides in 108 proteins were identified, and five ubiquitination motifs were found. KEGG pathway network analysis of 108 ubiquitinated proteins identified four statistically significant signaling pathways, including PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, hippo signaling pathway, ribosome, and nucleotide excision repair. R software Gene Ontology (GO) analysis of 108 ubiquitinated proteins revealed that protein ubiquitination was involved in multiple biological processes, cellular components, and molecule functions. The randomly selected ubiquitinated 14-3-3 zeta/delta protein was further analyzed with Western blot, and it was found that upregulated 14-3-3 zeta/delta protein in nonfunctional PAs might be derived from the significantly decreased level of its ubiquitination compared to control pituitaries, which indicated a contribution of 14-3-3 zeta/delta protein to pituitary tumorigenesis. These findings provided the first ubiquitinated proteomic profiling and ubiquitination-involved signaling pathway networks in human PAs. This study offers new scientific evidence and basic data to elucidate the biological functions of ubiquitination in PAs, insights into its novel molecular mechanisms of pituitary tumorigenesis, and discovery of novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets for effective treatment of PAs.

Abstract
PURPOSE Non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPA) have a substantial impact on patients' health status, yet research on the extent of healthcare utilization and costs among these patients is scarce. The objective was to determine healthcare usage, associated costs, and their determinants among patients treated for an NFPA. METHODS In a cross-sectional study, 167 patients treated for an NFPA completed four validated questionnaires. Annual healthcare utilization and associated costs were assessed through the medical consumption questionnaire (MTA iMCQ). In addition, the Leiden Bother and Needs Questionnaire for pituitary patients (LBNQ-Pituitary), Short Form-36 (SF-36), and EuroQol (EQ-5D) were administered. Furthermore, age, sex, endocrine status, treatment, and duration of follow-up were extracted from the medical records. Associations were analyzed using logistic/linear regression. RESULTS Annual healthcare utilization included: consultation of an endocrinologist (95% of patients), neurosurgeon (14%), and/or ophthalmologist (58%). Fourteen percent of patients had ≥1 hospitalization(s) and 11% ≥1 emergency room visit(s). Mean overall annual healthcare costs were € 3040 (SD 6498), highest expenditures included medication (31%), inpatient care (28%), and specialist care (17%). Factors associated with higher healthcare utilization and costs were greater self-perceived disease bother and need for support, worse mental and physical health status, younger age, and living alone. CONCLUSION Healthcare usage and costs among patients treated for an NFPA are substantial and were associated with self-perceived health status, disease bother, and healthcare needs rather than endocrine status, treatment, or duration of follow-up. These findings suggest that targeted interventions addressing disease bother and unmet needs in the chronic phase are needed.

Abstract
Pituitary diseases are rare conditions with severe chronic multiorgan and multisystemic morbidity requiring complex multidisciplinary treatment and usually life-long drug treatment. Most cases are caused by functioning or non-functioning pituitary adenoma. From the patient's perspective, the burden of disease is caused by the tumour itself and associated compression symptoms, interventions, hormone excess and deficiencies, systemic manifestations of these endocrine abnormalities and general psychosocial issues that can manifest in patients with a chronic condition. In this review, patient burden is classified according to classic endocrine syndromes, with burden at diagnosis and after long-term remission, and also within the framework of value-based health care and the conceptual model of wellbeing. The recently developed patient-reported outcome measurement tool that helps to evaluate burden of patients is also discussed.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pituitary tumors may have a considerable impact on patients' functional status, including paid employment, yet research in this area is sparse. OBJECTIVE To describe work disability and its determinants in patients treated for a pituitary tumor. METHODS Cross-sectional study including patients treated for a pituitary tumor in the working age (18-65 years), who completed five validated questionnaires assessing work disability [Short Form-Health and Labour Questionnaire, Work Role Functioning Questionnaire 2.0 (WRFQ)], health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and utility (Short Form-36, EuroQoL) and disease burden (Leiden Bother and Needs Questionnaire-Pituitary). Additional data were extracted from the medical records (age, gender, tumor type, treatment, date of diagnosis) and self-reports (marital status, education, endocrine status). Associations of disease-specific and sociodemographic characteristics, HRQoL, and disease burden with (not) having a paid job were examined through multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS We included 241 patients (61% female, median age 53 years, median time since diagnosis 11 years), of whom 68 (28%) were without a paid job. Patients who had acromegaly, Cushing's disease, (pan)hypopituitarism, radiotherapy, were single, less educated, lower HRQoL, and increased disease burden were more often without a paid job (p < 0.05). Among those with paid jobs, 41% reported health-related absenteeism in the previous year. The three work incapacitating problems reported by the largest proportion of patients were within the mental and social domain (WRFQ). CONCLUSION Work disability among patients treated for a pituitary tumor is substantial. As impact on social functioning is high, it is strongly advised to incorporate work disability during clinical guidance of patients.
