Abstract
This study presents the synthesis and characterization of a novel phosphotungstic acid-functionalized hercynite@SiO2 magnetic core-shell through a three-step procedure. The characterization involved various analyses including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, P-XRD, TGA-DSC, EDAX, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy, elemental mapping, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and value stream mapping. The catalytic performance of the hercynite@SiO2-PTA nanomagnetic composite was examined in the esterification of chloroacetic acid. Results indicate that the developed procedure enables the production of chloroacetic acid esters using a wide range of primary, secondary, and tertiary aliphatic and aromatic alcohols with good to excellent yields and high selectivity. The significance of this work lies in its straightforward synthesis method, minimal time requirement, reduced utilization of hazardous chemicals, and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the catalyst exhibited magnetic recyclability for up to five cycles with negligible loss in activity. Notably, the synthesized catalyst demonstrated nontoxicity and environmental friendliness.

Abstract
MTPPBr/THFTCA-DES was prepared as a new deep eutectic solvent (DES) from a mixture (molar ratio 7:3) of methyltriphenyl-phosphonium bromide (MTPPBr) and tetrahydrofuran-2,3,4,5-tetra-carboxylic acid (THFTCA), and characterized with various spectroscopic techniques, densitometer, and eutectic point. Then, it was used as a new and powerful catalyst for the synthesis of two sets of biologically important compounds, namely the Henna-based benzopyranophenazines and benzoxan-thenetriones. Solvent-free conditions, short reaction time, high efficiency, and easy recycling and separation of the DES catalyst are among the most important features of the presented method. Also, there is a nice consistency between the proposed structure of the DES compound, the integration values of the 1H NMR peaks, and the ratio of MTPPBr to THFTCA obtained from the eutectic point phase diagram. In addition, the reduction of peak splitting patterns in DES compared to the two primary materials can be good evidence of the formation of hydrogen bonds between the two components.

Abstract
In this work, the spinel FeAl2O4 was prepared and functionalized step-by-step with silica and alaninium nitrate ionic liquid ([DL-Ala][NO3]) to produce a bio-based multi-layered nanostructure (nano FeAl2O4-SiO2@[DL-Ala][NO3]). The obtained magnetized inorganic-bioorganic nanohybrid characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry (TGA/DSC), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and X-Ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. A facile synthesis of some tricyclic dihydro-spiro[chromeno[2,3-c]pyrazole-4,2'-indene]triones and dihydro-spiro[chromeno[2,3-c]pyrazole-4,3'-indoline]diones via domino four-component one-pot reaction of various hydrazine derivatives, ethyl acetoacetate, heterocyclic 1,2-ketones (ninhydrin, isatin, 5-bromoisatin) and cyclic 1,3-diketones (dimedone and 1,3-cyclohexanedine), examined in the presence of nano FeAl2O4-SiO2@[DL-Ala][NO3] nanohybrid in refluxing aqueous media, successfully. The multi-aspect characteristics of the nanohybrid which consist of magnetized inorganic and bioorganic parts, could be the reason of its special catalytic efficacy. The recovery and reusability of the FeAl2O4-SiO2@[DL-Ala][NO3] magnetized nanoparticles (MNPs) were performed in two runs without significant activity loss.

Abstract
The present work aims at preparing the EDTA-Zn(II) complex-supported on the amine-functionalized MIL-101(Cr) MOF-as a new and effective heterogenized catalyst. The optimization of the hydrothermal process shows that 120 °C is the best condition to grow the MIL-101(Cr)-NH2 MOF crystals. Moreover, regarding the use of the postsynthetic modification (PSM) method, hexadentate EDTA was grafted on this support via a simple aminolysis process before further coordinating it with Zn ions to create the corresponding Zn(II) catalytic complex. The catalytic activity of this compound was then investigated in the context of a one-pot synthesis of polyhydroquinolines. This approach has a number of advantages including the following: the use of a solvent that is not hazardous, applying a porous catalyst that is inexpensive, secure, and recyclable; rapid reaction times, high levels of efficiency, and the simplicity of MOF catalyst separation. Accordingly, the process in question can be given the label of "green chemistry".

Abstract
Hercynite magnetic nanoparticles were produced through the co-precipitation of ferrous and aluminum cations. The surface of hercynite was respectively coated with silica, 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine, and 1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylic acid to provide a suitable substrate for Pd(II) loading, furnishing Pd@Her-TCT-PDA. Subsequently, the introduced Pd(II) was reduced to Pd(0) using NaBH4. FT-IR, EDS, XRD, TGA, TEM and SEM images were the characteristic methods to prove the success of catalyst synthesis. The SEM image illustrated the particles with a nanosize of 25-50 nm and TEM image confirmed the presence of Pd nanoparticles with sizes lower than 2 nm. EDS elemental analysis of the catalyst proved the existence of Pd, Fe, and Al atoms along with the C, O, N, and Si atoms belong to the heterocyclic moieties. VSM analysis clarified a considerable drop in the magnetic properties of the hercynite core of the final catalyst due to its modified surface. TGA curve demonstrated that Pd@Her-TCT-PDA contains 20% organic content, attributed to the anchored heterocyclic ligands. Finally, Pd@Her-TCT-PDA was employed along with NaBH4 as a catalytic system to reduce completely the nitro group of aromatic compounds to their corresponding amines. The recyclability tests showed low drop in the catalytic activity of Pd@Her-TCT-PDA after third run with negligible leaching of Pd NPs.

Abstract
We synthesized a stable and reusable Schiff base complex of copper immobilized on core-shell magnetic nanoparticles [Cu(II)-SB/GPTMS@SiO2@Fe3O4] with simple, efficient, and available materials. A variety of characterization analyses including Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX), and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) confirm that our synthesized nanocatalyst was obtained. The particle size distribution from the TEM image was obtained in the range of 42-55 nm. The existence of cupric species (Cu2+) in the catalyst was determined with XPS analysis and clearly indicated two peaks at 933.7 and 953.7 eV for Cu 2p3/2 and Cu 2p1/2, respectively. BET results showed that our catalyst synthesized with a mesoporous structure and with a specific area of 48.82 m2 g-1. After detailed characterization, the resulting nanocatalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance for the explored catalytic reactions in the one-pot synthesis of polyhydroquinoline derivatives by the Hantzsch reaction of dimedone, ethyl acetoacetate, ammonium acetate, and various aldehydes under sustainable and mild conditions. The corresponding products 5a-l are achieved in yields of 88-97%. Additionally, density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to investigate the electrostatic potential root (ESP), natural bond orbital (NBO), and molecular orbitals (MOs), drawing the reaction mechanism using the total energy of the reactant and product and the study of structural parameters.

Abstract
In this research, a novel nanomagnetic tetra-azamacrocyclic Schiff base complex of copper(ii) was produced via a post-synthetic surface modification of an Fe3O4 surface by a silane-coupling agent that contains acetylacetone functionalities at the end of its chain. Moreover, the target Cu complex that involves a tetradentate Schiff base ligand was obtained from a template reaction with o-phenylenediamine and Cu(NO3)2·3H2O. Furthermore, the prepared complex was nominated as [Fe3O4@TAM-Schiff-base-Cu(II)]. The Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis indicates the presence of a Schiff-base-Cu complex in the catalyst. X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and TGA analysis reveal that approximately 6-7% of the target catalyst comprises hydrocarbon moieties. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images demonstrate the presence of uniformly shaped particles, nearly spherical in nature, with sizes ranging from 9 to 18 nm. [Fe3O4@TAM-Schiff-base-Cu(II)] was applied as a catalyst for the click synthesis of a diverse range of 5-substituted-1H-tetrazoles in PEG-400 as a green medium. Regarding the electrical properties of the Cu(ii) complex, the presence of a tetra-aza (N4 donor) macrocyclic Schiff base as an N-rich ligand was reasonable - leading to its excellent capacity to catalyze these organic transformations. Finally, the high magnetization value (44.92 emu g-1) of [Fe3O4@TAM-Schiff-base-Cu(II)] enables its recycling at least four times without compromising the catalytic efficiency.

Abstract
In this study, the immobilization of sulfaguanidine-SA on the surface of FeAl2O4 (hercynite) MNPs (magnetic nanoparticles) as a novel acid nanocatalyst has been successfully reported for the synthesis of 2-(piperazin-1-yl) quinoxaline derivatives via a one-pot multiple-component reaction under green conditions. The products were characterized by SEM, TEM, TGA, EDS, BET technique, VSM, and FTIR. This series of novel 2-piperazinyl quinoxaline derivatives containing isatin-based thio/semicarbazones and/or Schiff bases of Metformin were evaluated for anticancer activity against both human ovarian and colon-derived tumor cell lines by MTT colorimetric assay. Although most of the investigated hybrid compounds exhibited excellent anti-proliferative activities and high selectivity index (SI) values, the promising compounds N'-[4-(quinoxaline-2-yl)-piperazine-1-yl]methyl-5-chloro-1-H-indole,2,3-dion-3-metformin 4c and N'-[4-(quinoxaline-2-yl)-piperazine-1-yl]methyl-5-bromo-1-H-indole,2,3-dion-3-metformin 4b proved to be the most potent anti-proliferative agents (IC50 values < 1 μM). Molecular docking and dynamics simulation suggest that these hybrid compounds can be wrapped in the catalytic cavity of c-Kit tyrosine kinase receptor and the binding pocket of P-glycoprotein with high scores. Thus, 2-piperazinyl quinoxaline linked isatin-based N-Mannich bases of metformin and/or thio/semicarbazones might be served as suitable candidates for further investigations to develop a new generation of multi-target cancer chemotherapy agents.

Abstract
Laccase was successfully hybridized with polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer-grafted silica-coated hercynite-copper phosphate magnetic hybrid nanoflowers (MHNFs) to increase the catalytic performance of the enzyme and apply in an effective bioremoval of gemifloxacin. For this purpose, the magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) of hercynite were covered with a silica layer, and the core-shell SiO2@hercynite was then modified with PAMAM dendrimer to increase the surface area of the carrier for the enzyme attachment. Subsequently, the whole complex was hybridized with laccase and copper phosphate to attain a large surface area (104.3 m2 g-1). The fabricated MHNFs acquired the entrapment yield and efficiency of 90 ± 3% and 66 ± 5%, respectively. The catalytic activity of the fabricated biocatalyst was remained up to 50% after 13 reusability cycles. Approximately 90% of gemifloxacin was removed by the constructed MHNFs after 3 h incubation by adsorption and degradation mechanisms. The biotransformation products were then identified, and degradation pathways were proposed as defluorination, decarboxylation, elimination of a cyclopropyl group, and cleavage of the pyrrolidine moiety. Furthermore, the toxicity of gemifloxacin was effectively diminished against some bacterial strains.

Abstract
Mesoporous materials have been the subject of intense research regarding their unique structural and textural properties and successful applications in various fields. This study reports a novel approach for synthesizing a novel porous polymer stabilizer through condensation polymerization in which Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4 MNPs) are used as hard templates. Using this method allowed the facile and fast removal of the template and mesopores formation following the Fe3O4 MNPs. Different techniques were performed to characterize the structure of the polymer. Based on the obtained results, the obtained mesoporous polymeric network was multi-layered and consisted of repeating units of sulfonamide, triazine, and guanidine as a novel heterogeneous multifunctional support. Afterward, the new nickel organometallic complex was supported on its inner surface using the porous poly sulfonamide triazine guanidine (PGTSA/Ni). In this process, the obtained PGTSA/Ni nanocomposite was used as a heterogeneous catalyst in the synthesis of imines from amines. Since this reaction has an acceptorless dehydrogenation pathway, the hydrogen gas is released as its by-product. The synthesized nanocatalyst was structurally confirmed using different characterization modalities, including FT-IR, SEM, XRD, EDX, TEM, elemental mapping, ICP-AES, BET, and TGA. In addition, all products were obtained in high turnover frequency (TOF) and turnover number (TON). The corresponding results revealed the high selectivity and activity of the prepared catalyst through these coupling reactions. Overall, the synthesized nanocatalyst is useable for eight cycles with no considerable catalytic efficiency loss.

Application of novel Fe3O4/Zn-metal organic framework magnetic nanostructures as an antimicrobial agent and magnetic nanocatalyst in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. [PMID: 36300031 PMCID: PMC9589061 DOI: 10.3389/fchem.2022.1014731] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 08/10/2022] [Accepted: 09/20/2022] [Indexed: 11/25/2022] Open
Abstract
Using the microwave-assisted method, novel Fe3O4/Zn-metal organic framework magnetic nanostructures were synthesized. The crystallinity, thermal stability, adsorption/desorption isotherms, morphology/size distribution, and magnetic hysteresis of synthesized Fe3O4/Zn-metal organic framework magnetic nanostructures were characterized by XRD patterns, TGA curve, BET adsorption/desorption technique, SEM image, and VSM curve, respectively. After confirming the Fe3O4/Zn-metal organic framework magnetic nanostructures, its antimicrobial properties against Gram-positive bacterial, Gram-negative bacterial, and fungal strains based on minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) values were studied. The MIC values in antimicrobial activity for Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains, between 16–128 μg/ml, and for fungal strain, 128 μg/ml were observed. The results showed that the high specific surface area of Fe3O4/Zn-metal organic framework magnetic nanostructures caused the antimicrobial power of nanoparticles to be high, and the observed antimicrobial effects were higher than some known commercial antimicrobial drugs. Another advantage of the specific surface area of Fe3O4/Zn-metal organic framework magnetic nanostructures was its high catalytic properties in the three-component reaction of isatin, malononitrile, and dimedone. New spiro [indoline-pyranopyrimidines] derivatives were synthesized with high efficiency. The catalytic activity results of Fe3O4/Zn-metal organic framework magnetic nanostructures showed that, in addition to recyclability, derivatives could be synthesized in less time than previously reported methods. The results of investigating the catalytic activity of Fe3O4/Zn-metal organic framework magnetic nanostructures showed that the spiro [indoline-pyranopyrimidines] derivatives were synthesized in the time range of 10–20 min with an efficiency of over 85%. As a final result, it can be concluded that the microwave synthesis method improves the unique properties of magnetic nanostructures, especially its specific surface area, and has increased its efficiency.

Abstract
The sludge-derived biochar is considered an effective emerging contaminants adsorbent for wastewater treatment. In this paper, red mud and steel slag (RMSS) was used for improving sludge dewaterability and enhancing the sludge-derived biochar adsorption capacity. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and a scanning electron microscope (SEM) were employed to comprehensively characterize the mineral composition, functional group, and morphology of the adsorbent. RMSS was able to improve the sludge dewatering performance by providing a skeleton structure to promote drainage and Fe(III) to decrease the Zeta potential. The dosage of 20 mg/g RMSS was able to reduce the specific resistance to filtration (SRF) and the Zeta potential of sludge from 1.57 × 1013 m/kg and −19.56 mV to 0.79 × 1013 m/kg and −9.10 mV, respectively. The co-pyrolysis of RMSS and sludge (2:8) induced the formation of biochar containing FeAl2O4 (PS80). The PS80 exhibited a large surface area (46.40 m2/g) and high tetracycline (TC) removal capacity (98.87 mg/g) when combined with H2O2 (PS80-H2O2). The adsorption process of TC onto PS80 and PS80-H2O2 was well described by the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic model, indicating physisorption and chemisorption behavior. The results indicated that co-pyrolysis of RMSS sludge PS80-H2O2 could enhance the biochar adsorption capacity of TC, attributable to the degradation by ·OH generated by the heterogeneous Fenton reaction of FeAl2O4 and H2O2, the release of adsorbed sites, and the improvement of the biochar pore structure. This study proposed a novel method for the use of RMSS to dewater sludge as well as to induce the formation of FeAl2O4 in biochar with effective TC removal by providing a Fe and Al source, achieving a waste-to-resource strategy for the integrated management of industrial solid waste and sewage sludge.

A uniformly anchored zirconocene complex on magnetic reduced graphene oxide (rGO@Fe 3O 4/ZrCp 2Cl x (x = 0, 1, 2)) as a novel and reusable nanocatalyst for synthesis of N-arylacetamides and reductive-acetylation of nitroarenes. RSC Adv 2022; 12:15020-15037. Abstract
In this study, a crafted zirconocene complex on rGO@Fe3O4 as a novel magnetic nanocatalyst was synthesized and then characterized using FT-IR, SEM, EDX, VSM, ICP-OES, TGA, BET and MS analyses. Next, catalytic activity of the prepared nanocomposite rGO@Fe3O4/ZrCp2Cl x (x = 0, 1, 2) towards successful reduction of aromatic nitro compounds to arylamines using N2H4·H2O (80%) was investigated. The examined nanocatalyst also showed perfect catalytic activity for reductive-acetylation of aromatic nitro compounds to the corresponding N-arylacetamides without isolation of the prepared in situ amines using the N2H4·H2O/Ac2O system. Furthermore, acetylation of the commercially available arylamines to the corresponding N-arylacetamides was carried out by acetic anhydride in the presence of the rGO@Fe3O4/ZrCp2Cl x (x = 0, 1, 2) nanocomposite. All reactions were carried out in refluxing EtOH as a green solvent to afford the products in high yields. The obtained results exhibited that the nanocomposite of rGO@Fe3O4/ZrCp2Cl x (x = 0, 1, 2) showed a great catalytic activity in comparison to rGO and rGO@Fe3O4 as the parent constituents. Recovery and reusability of rGO@Fe3O4/ZrCp2Cl x (x = 0, 1, 2) were also examined for 8 consecutive cycles without significant loss of the catalytic activity. This establishes the sustainable anchoring of the zirconocene complex on the surface and mesopores of the rGO@Fe3O4 nanohybrid system.

Abstract
Phenazine systems are an important class of aza-polycyclic compounds that are easily found in nature and isolated as secondary metabolites primarily from Pseudomonas, Streptomyces, and a few other genera from soil or marine habitats. Moreover, various synthetic phenazine analogs are known for their pharmaceutical activities. Among various phenazines, benzo[a]phenazines are structural subunits in a variety of important natural products and have been given special attention due to their unique biological properties in various fields. In this review article, we highlight the synthesis of benzo[a]phenazin-5-ol derivatives from lawsone and benzene-1,2-diamines and their applications for the construction of a variety of five and six membered fused heterocycles such as pyranophenazines, spiropyranophenazines, pyridophenazines, furophenazines, benzochromenophenazines and oxazinophenazines during the period of 1995 to 2021.

Abstract
A three-dimensional walnut-like Zn-based MOF microsphere system was designed and synthesized via hydrothermal reaction of zinc salt with 4,6-diamino-2-pyrimidinethiol as a tridentate ligand. Besides, Zn ions were coordinated to the functional groups of the ligand to give a novel Zn-MOF microsphere material. Afterward, the resultant material was thoroughly characterized using various analysis and physico-chemical methods; including, FT-IR, XRD, TGA, EDX, X-ray mapping, SEM, TEM, and BET analysis. The Zn-MOF microspheres were utilized in the Hantzsch reaction for a selective synthesis of asymmetric polyhydroquinolines, using various aromatic aldehydes. Our strategy aims at providing a controlled synthesis of hierarchically nanoporous Zn-MOF microspheres with a well-defined morphology, structure, and excellent catalytic properties. Besides, it would result in having a promising heterogeneous catalyst for a selective synthesis with good yields, short reaction time, a low limit of steric hindrance and electronic effects. Moreover, the heterogeneity of the catalyst is further tested with hot filtration and also the reusability results point.

Abstract
Herein, we delignated the synthesis of a novel inorganic sulfurous magnetic solid acid catalyst by the immobilization of an extremely high content of sulfuric acid functionalities on the amorphous silica-modified hercynite nanomagnetic core–shell via a simple method. Silica sulfuric acid (SSA) modified hercynite nanocomposite (hercynite@SSA) combines excellent recoverability and stability characteristics of hercynite (which can be regarded as a ferro spinel with Fd3m space group and cubic crystal structure) with the strong Brønsted acid properties of –SO3H groups. This nanomagnetic solid acid was found to be an efficient and facile strong solid acid catalyst for the synthesis of bis(pyrazolyl)methanes via two different one-pot multicomponent methodologies under green conditions. The hercynite@SSA catalyst shows excellent catalytic activity and reusability in the ethanolic medium among different solid acid materials. A plausible reaction mechanism is proposed for this synthesis. A novel inorganic sulfurous nanomagnetic solid acid composite was synthesized and its catalytic activity was evaluated in the synthesis of bis(pyrazolyl)methane derivatives. The catalyst displayed excellent activity and recoverability under green conditions.![]()

Microwave-Assisted Hydrothermal Synthesis of Zinc-Aluminum Spinel ZnAl 2O 4. MATERIALS 2021; 15:ma15010245. [PMID: 35009391 PMCID: PMC8746271 DOI: 10.3390/ma15010245] [Citation(s) in RCA: 3] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Figures] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/03/2021] [Revised: 12/28/2021] [Accepted: 12/28/2021] [Indexed: 11/17/2022]
Abstract
The drawback of the hydrothermal technique is driven by the fact that it is a time-consuming operation, which greatly impedes its commercial application. To overcome this issue, conventional hydrothermal synthesis can be improved by the implementation of microwaves, which should result in enhanced process kinetics and, at the same time, pure-phase and homogeneous products. In this study, nanometric zinc aluminate (ZnAl2O4) with a spinel structure was obtained by a hydrothermal method using microwave reactor. The average ZnAl2O4 crystallite grain size was calculated from the broadening of XRD lines. In addition, BET analysis was performed to further characterize the as-synthesized particles. The synthesized materials were also subjected to microscopic SEM and TEM observations. Based on the obtained results, we concluded that the grain sizes were in the range of 6-8 nm. The surface areas measured for the samples from the microwave reactor were 215 and 278 m2 g-1.

Abstract
Coordinative polymers (CP) are a subclass of Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with porous microstructures which have been widely synthesized in recent years and applied in various fields especially in catalysis science. In this work Coordinative polymers (CP) of nickel and citric acid (CA) was prepared as a new catalyst (Ni-CP) and applied in organic multicomponent reactions. The obtained catalyst was characterized by SEM, WDX, EDS, AAS, FT-IR, XRD and BET analysis. N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms indicate good BET surface area for Ni-CP; therefore can be employed as an efficient catalyst in multicomponent reactions for the synthesis of polyhydroquinoline and 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one derivatives. Finally, this catalyst was recovered and reused several consecutive times.

Abstract
A highly efficient and stable heterogeneous coordination polymer (CP) was successfully prepared by hydrothermal combination of silver and 4,6-diamino-2-pyrimidinethiol. The prepared coordination polymer was characterized by FT-IR, XRD, TGA, SEM, EDX, X-ray mapping and Nitrogen adsorption–desorption analysis. The prepared Ag–CP exhibit excellent catalytic activity in multicomponent Hantzsch synthesis of polyhydroquinolines under mild reaction conditions in relatively short reaction times. The heterogeneity of the catalyst was confirmed by the hot filtration test; also, the catalyst was reused for at least four times under the optimized reaction conditions without any significant loss of its catalytic activity.

Abstract
Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) are a valuable tool in diversity-oriented synthesis. Its application to privileged structures is gaining relevance in the fields of organic and medicinal chemistry. Isatin, due to its unique reactivity, can undergo different MCRs, affording multiple interesting scaffolds, namely oxindole-derivatives (including spirooxindoles, bis-oxindoles and 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles) and even, under certain conditions, ring-opening reactions occur that leads to other heterocyclic compounds. Over the past few years, new methodologies have been described for the application of this important and easily available starting material in MCRs. In this review, we explore these novelties, displaying them according to the structure of the final products obtained.

Abstract
Mesoporous silica nanomaterials provide an extraordinary advantage for making
new and superior heterogeneous catalysts because of their surface silanol groups. The functionalized
mesoporous SBA-15, such as acidic, basic, BrÖnsted, lewis acid, and chiral catalysts,
are used for a wide range of organic syntheses. The importance of the chiral ligands,
which were immobilized on the SBA-15, was mentioned in this review to achieve chiral
products as valuable target molecules. Herein, their synthesis and application in different organic
transformations are reviewed from 2016 till date 2020.
