Abstract
PURPOSE Although the health benefits of early diagnosis and therapeutic approaches for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), racial disparities persist. This systematic review explored the experiences of racism and racial disparities in health care among children and youth with ASD and their caregivers. METHODS We conducted a systematic review, drawing on six international databases. Two reviewers screened titles, abstracts, and full texts. Thirty-seven studies met our inclusion criteria and we applied a narrative synthesis to develop themes. RESULTS Four themes were identified: (1) experiences and aspects of racism and racial disparities (i.e., language and cultural barriers, poor quality health care interactions, stereotypes and discrimination, family and community stigma, and indirect barriers); (2) racial disparities in health care (i.e., screening and referral, diagnosis, health care services, and care coordination and medication); (3) facilitators to accessing health care services; and (4) recommendations from caregivers. CONCLUSIONS This review highlights the extensive racial disparities experienced by children with autism. More research is needed to explore youth's perspectives on racism in addition to exploring potential interventions to address racial disparities and improve health equity for youth with ASD.

Abstract
Primary caregivers are the main mediators of care for children with an autism diagnosis in Canada, and the navigation process to gain access to autism-related services is known to be a major burden. These challenges to service access are compounded for newcomers to Canada, which include immigrants and refugees. The purpose of this scoping review is to describe the available research on Canadian newcomer caregiver experiences navigating and accessing autism-related services. After a systematic search and screening process, 28 studies were included. Data were extracted regarding the populations, study aims, and themes reported. Included studies characterized barriers and facilitators to service access and navigation specific to immigrants, while limited information was available for refugees. Based on the existing literature, the authors provide recommendations for possible research approaches, populations to include, and themes to examine in future research to promote health equity in Canadian autism service access.

Abstract
PURPOSE Asian children and youth with disabilities often experience multiple barriers, stigmas and discrimination within and outside their families; yet less is understood about their lived experiences. This systematic review explored the experiences of ableism among Asian children and youth with disabilities and their families. METHODS We conducted a systematic review of qualitative studies and a qualitative meta-synthesis. We searched six databases including Ovid Medline, Embase, PsychInfo, Healthstar, Web of Science, and Scopus. RESULTS Forty-two articles met our inclusion criteria involving 17 countries and regions over a 22-year period. The findings were synthesized into four themes: (1) individual- and family-level ableism (i.e., stigma, fears, concerns, stress and anxieties, physical abuse, bullying, reduced engagement in community activities); (2) institutional-level ableism (i.e., barriers to accessing and navigating supports, ableist attitudes among service providers, unavailable services); (3) societal-level ableism (i.e., cultural and religious stigma, social rejection, discrimination, environmental and policy barriers); and (4) coping strategies (i.e., self-care activities, supports from family, friends and people with similar conditions, religious beliefs). CONCLUSIONS Our results highlight the ableist experiences that Asian children and youth with disabilities and their caregivers often encounter and the strong need for further supports to address ableism using culturally responsive strategies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Identify the age at diagnosis and intervention of immigrant and/or non-English-speaking children with hearing loss (HL) and risk factors associated with delays. Identify barriers for non-English-speaking caregivers of deaf/hard-of-hearing children. STUDY DESIGN Sequential mixed methods. SETTING Tertiary care center in an urban city. METHODS The analysis includes descriptive statistics, and 1-way and 2-way analysis of variance of the retrospective chart review. The quantitative study demonstrated foreign-born experienced disparities, so we conducted semistructured interviews on a subset of non-English-speaking families in the cohort that was then thematically analyzed using a human-centered design strategy. RESULTS We divided 532 children into 3 groups: US-born with English as the preferred language (N = 294), US-born and non-English language preferred (N = 173), and foreign-born (N = 67). The laterality of HL and pure-tone averages were similar among the groups (p = .972 and .071, respectively). Age at diagnosis and time to the intervention were significantly different (39.7, 31.5, 75.8 months, p < .001 and 24.6, 29.2, 48.9 months, p = .001, respectively). Ages at diagnosis and intervention were associated with birthplace (p = .005, p = .0005, respectively) but not preferred language (p = .667, p = .343, respectively). Included in the qualitative interviews were Mandarin- (n = 5), Arabic- (n = 4), and Spanish-speaking families (n = 3). Insights revealed participants' quest for anticipatory guidance and social support, the consequences of cultural stigma, and the complexity of caring for a child with HL in an immigrant family. CONCLUSION Foreign-born children with HL have significant delays in diagnosis and intervention compared to US-born children. For non-English-speaking parents, the diagnosis of HL presents challenges beyond that of the immigrant experience.

Abstract
Implementation of the universal newborn hearing screening has changed the landscape for children born deaf or hard of hearing, and with this, pediatricians must be knowledgeable about the screening and referral process, state protocols, and how to support patients and their families in their unique journeys. Early access to language-spoken, signed, both-forms the foundation for successful outcomes for the development of fluent language. For children using spoken language, early access to sound is critical and can often be achieved with the assistance of hearing devices, even in the newborn period. For all language modalities, state-funded Deaf mentor programs allow families to have meaningful exposure to the Deaf community. The authors come from different professions in the health care and education fields, including General Pediatrics, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and the state Department of Education, and use different languages, including spoken and American Sign Language.

The Psychological Well-Being of Older Chinese Immigrants in Canada amidst COVID-19: The Role of Loneliness, Social Support, and Acculturation. Abstract
This study examined the effects of loneliness, social support, and acculturation on psychological well-being, as indexed by general emotional well-being and life satisfaction, of older Chinese adults living in Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 168 older Chinese adults, recruited via WeChat and the internet, completed an online study through a facilitated Zoom or phone meeting, or through a website link, individually or in a group. The testing package included demographic information, The UCLA Loneliness Scale, The Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale, Vancouver Index of Acculturation, The Satisfaction with Life Scale, and The World Health Organization’s Five Well-Being Index. The results showed that the psychological well-being (both general emotional well-being and cognitively perceived life satisfaction) was positively predicted by perceived social support but negatively predicted by loneliness. Acculturation was not predictive of both outcomes, and it did not moderate the predictive relationships of social support or loneliness. The results shed light on the importance of community services that target enhancing social support and reducing loneliness in promoting psychological well-being of older Chinese immigrants in Canada amidst and post the pandemic.
