Abstract
STUDY OBJECTIVES Catathrenia has been classified as a sleep-related breathing disorder variant in the third edition of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders, but its validity remains unverified. We analyzed the clinical descriptive variables and polysomnographic findings of catathrenia and discussed the similarities to and differences from those of obstructive sleep apnea, non-rapid eye movement parasomnias, and sleep bruxism (SB). METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted on 47 patients diagnosed with nocturnal groaning through polysomnography. We examined sex, body mass index, age at symptom onset, weekly symptom frequency, and presence/absence of comorbidities, including obstructive sleep apnea, periodic limb movement disorder, non-rapid eye movement parasomnia, and SB. The groaning event index was calculated according to sleep position and sleep stage. RESULTS The distribution of patients with catathrenia did not show sex differences (male/female = 20:27), body mass index was 20.6 ± 3.0 kg/m2, and age of onset was 18.2 ± 7.4 years. The groaning event index was higher in stages N1 and R than in stage N3 and in the supine position than in the lateral position. There were no cases complicated with non-rapid eye movement parasomnia, but the complication of SB was observed in 30% of the participants, and SB events appeared immediately before or during the interictal period of the groaning event episodes in these cases. CONCLUSIONS Given the clinical background, posture- and sleep stage-dependent appearance of groaning events, and the relatively high complication rate of SB, catathrenia pathogenesis may be heterogeneous or comprise elements of different sleep disorders. Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep disturbances have been shown to result in considerable morbidity and mortality. It is important for dental clinicians to understand the neuroscience behind sleep disorders. TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED The authors conducted a search of the literature published from January 1990 through March 2024 of sleep medicine-related articles, with a focus on neuroscience. The authors prioritized articles about the science of sleep as related to dental medicine. RESULTS The authors found a proliferation of articles related to sleep neuroscience along with its implications in dental medicine. The authors also found that the intricate neuroscientific principles of sleep medicine are being investigated robustly. The salient features of, and the differences between, central and obstructive sleep apneas have been elucidated. Sleep genes, such as CRY, PER1, PER2, and CLOCK, and their relationship to cancer and neurodegeneration are also additions to this rapidly developing science. CONCLUSIONS AND PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS The dental clinician has the potential to be the first to screen patients for possible sleep disorders and make prompt referrals to the appropriate medical professionals. This can be lifesaving as well as minimize potential future morbidity for the patient.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION This study aimed to evaluate the use of botulinum toxin (BTX) for the treatment of bruxism in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Germany. MATERIAL AND METHODS A dynamic online questionnaire comprising 7 to 25 questions was formulated to gather general and specific information regarding using BTX to treat bruxism. The questionnaire underwent internal and external assessments for validation. Subsequently, it was distributed to 906 oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMFS) affiliated with the German Association for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (DGMKG). Weekly reminders were dispatched over four weeks to enhance response rates. Participation in the study was voluntary and anonymized. Descriptive methods were employed for data analysis. RESULTS 107 OMFS participated in the study, yielding a response rate of 11.81%. On average, 17 patients with bruxism were per month, with 4 of these patients receiving BTX therapy. BTX administration was frequently accompanied by splints and physiotherapy (35.51% of participants). Botox® (Allergan) was the preferred BTX preparation, utilized by 40.79% and reconstituted with saline by 92.11% of participants. The masseter muscles were primarily targeted for BTX treatment (67.57% of participants), averaging 29 BTX (Allergan-) units per side. Injection points for each masseter muscle typically amounted to six per side, preferred by 30.67% of participants. Follow-up assessments post-BTX treatment were conducted regularly, predominantly after four weeks, by 36% of participants. In 8% of cases, additional BTX injections were necessary due to inadequate outcomes. Side effects were reported in 4% of cases, commonly manifesting as a non-disturbing reduction in bite force. Most participating OMFS (61.84%) using BTX for bruxism therapy regarded bruxism treatment with BTX as evidence-based. Notably, 97.37% of respondents expressed their willingness to recommend BTX-based bruxism treatment to their colleagues. Overall, the efficacy of BTX therapy for bruxism was rated as good (53.95%) and very good (40.79%). CONCLUSION The use of BTX for the management of bruxism among OMFS in Germany has demonstrated efficacy. Substantial variances in certain facets of bruxism treatment employing BTX have been observed. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Additional research endeavors are warranted to comprehensively investigate distinct elements of BTX therapy for bruxism, including the optimal dosage of BTX units and the precise localization of injection sites across various muscles.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: The purpose of this systematic review was to assess the global prevalence of sleep bruxism and awake bruxism in pediatric and adult populations. Methods: This systematic review was conducted by analyzing studies published from 2003 to 2023. The following keyword combination was utilized: prevalence, epidemiology, population, and bruxism. The PubMed database was analyzed, supplemented by manual searches using the Google search. Additionally, the snowballing procedure method was applied. A double assessment of the quality of publications was carried out to preserve the highest possible quality of evidence (e.g., Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal checklist). Analyses were conducted using the R statistical language. Results: The global bruxism (sleep and awake) prevalence is 22.22%. The global sleep bruxism prevalence is 21% and awake prevalence is 23%. The occurrence of sleep bruxism, based on polysomnography, was estimated at 43%. The highest prevalence of sleep bruxism was observed in North America at 31%, followed by South America at 23%, Europe at 21%, and Asia at 19%. The prevalence of awake bruxism was highest in South America at 30%, followed by Asia at 25% and Europe at 18%. Conclusions: One in four individuals may experience awake bruxism. Bruxism is a significant factor among women. It was observed that age is a significant factor for the occurrence of sleep bruxism in women. Among the limitations of the study is the lack of analysis of the prevalence of bruxism in Africa and Australia due to not collecting an adequate sample for analysis. Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to evaluate the content and quality of videos about bruxism treatments on YouTube, a platform frequently used by patients today to obtain information. METHODS A YouTube search was performed using the keywords "bruxism treatment" and "teeth grinding treatment". "The sort by relevance" filter was used for both search terms and the first 150 videos were saved. A total of 139 videos that met the study criteria were included in the study. Videos were classified as poor, moderate or excellent based on a usefulness score that evaluated content quality. The modified DISCERN tool was also used to evaluate video quality. Additionally, videos were categorized according to the upload source, target audience and video type. The types of treatments mentioned in the videos and the demographic data of the videos were recorded. RESULTS According to the usefulness score, 59% of the videos were poor-quality, 36.7% were moderate-quality and 4.3% were excellent-quality. Moderate-quality videos had a higher interaction index than excellent-quality videos (p = 0.039). The video duration of excellent-quality videos was longer than that of moderate and poor-quality videos (p = 0.024, p = 0.002). Videos with poor-quality content were found to have significantly lower DISCERN scores than videos with moderate (p < 0.001) and excellent-quality content (p = 0.008). Additionally, there was a significantly positive and moderate (r = 0.446) relationship between DISCERN scores and content usefulness scores (p < 0.001). There was only a weak positive correlation between DISCERN scores and video length (r = 0.359; p < 0.001). The videos uploaded by physiotherapists had significantly higher views per day and viewing rate than videos uploaded by medical doctors (p = 0.037), university-hospital-institute (p = 0.024) and dentists (p = 0.006). The videos uploaded by physiotherapists had notably higher number of likes and number of comments than videos uploaded by medical doctors (p = 0.023; p = 0.009, respectively), university-hospital-institute (p = 0.003; p = 0.008, respectively) and dentists (p = 0.002; p = 0.002, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Although the majority of videos on YouTube about bruxism treatments are produced by professionals, most of the videos contain limited information, which may lead patients to debate treatment methods. Health professionals should warn patients against this potentially misleading content and direct them to reliable sources.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the clinical performance of a glass hybrid (GH) restorative and a nano-ceramic composite resin (CR) in the restoration of non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) of bruxist individuals in a 60-month randomized clinical trial. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-five bruxist candidates having NCCLs were recruited in this clinical study. The depth, height (cervico-incisal), width (mesio-distal), internal angles of the NCCLs, degree of tooth wear (TWI) and gingival index (GI) were measured. One hundred-and-forty-eight NCCLs were restored either with a GH restorative (Equia Forte Fil) or a CR (Ceram.X One Universal). Modified USPHS criteria was used to evaluate restorations after 1 week and 12, 24, 36 and 60 months. Pearson's Chi-Square, Fisher's Exact and Cochran Q tests were run for analysis. Survival rates of the restorations were compared with Kaplan-Meier analysis (p < 0.05). RESULTS After 60 months, 97 restorations in 15 patients were examined. The recall rate was 60.0%. Retention rates were 73.5% for CR and 66.7% for GH. A total of 29 restorations were lost (13CR (26.5%), 16GH (33.3%)). There was not a significant difference between tested restoratives in retention (p = 0.464), marginal adaptation (p = 0.856) and marginal discoloration (p = 0.273). There was no relationship between internal angle, depth, height or width and retention of the GH or CR restorations (p > 0.05). The increase in retention loss and marginal discoloration of both restorations over time were significant (p < 0.001). Sensitivity or secondary caries were not detected after 60 months. CONCLUSION GH and nano-ceramic CR showed similar clinical performances in NCCLs after 60 months in patients with bruxism. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE After 60 months, CR and GH materials showed clinically acceptable performances in restoration of NCCLs in patients with bruxism.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the efficacy of injectable botulinum toxin (BTA) in the management of pain associated with nocturnal bruxism. METHODS The study subjects consisted of 40 male and female volunteers who complained of chronic pain in the masseter muscles bilaterally due to bruxism. Twenty units of BTA were injected bilaterally into the masseter muscles. Clinical parameters of pain at rest and chewing were assessed at baseline, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, 18, and 24 weeks using the visual pain scale (VPS). RESULTS The study included 24 females and 16 males aged 21 to 52 years (mean 33.9 ± 31.0). The mean VPS score on the first day was 5.75 (SD 1.9), significantly decreasing after two weeks to 0.44 (SD 0.727). The mean difference of VPS from 8 weeks up to 24 weeks gradually increase from 0.69 at 8 weeks to 2.00 at 24 weeks. CONCLUSION This study provides evidence that BTA could reduce the pain of nocturnal bruxism in affected patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Different oral appliances (OAs) have been proposed to control sleep bruxism (SB) detrimental effects on the stomatognathic system. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of different OAs on SB activity and masticatory muscle activity (sMMA) measured by EMG. METHODS This longitudinal cohort study was conducted on 51 patients (21 M, 30 F, mean age 26,5 ± 3,5) suffering from SB diagnosed with a validated portable EMG-ECG holter and wearing different OAs: occlusal splints, functional appliance with metallic bites and clear aligners followed after 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 12 months from delivery. A control group of 16 non-treated SB patients (6 M, 10 F mean age 27,1 ± 1,4) was used as a reference. A multiple regression analysis was performed to estimate the differences between groups. The level of significance was set as P value <0,05. RESULTS Occlusal splint reduced sleep bruxism index after 1 week, 3, 6 and 12 months from delivery while functional appliance only after 12 months. Occlusal splints reduced general phasic contractions only in the first week and sleep bruxism-related phasic contractions at 1 week, 3 and 6 months after delivery with no significant reductions after 12 months. Patients wearing clear aligners showed a reduction in general tonic contractions after 6 and 12 months. CONCLUSION Resin and metal bites can reduce sleep bruxism index, while resin bites can reduce sleep bruxism-related phasic contractions. Clear aligners do not influence sleep bruxism index but can reduce tonic contractions.

Abstract
Sleep bruxism, characterized by involuntary grinding or clenching of the teeth and/or by bracing or thrusting of the mandible during sleep, is common in children. Sleep bruxism occurs while the patient is asleep. As such, diagnosis can be difficult as the affected child is usually unaware of the tooth grinding sounds. This article aims to familiarize physicians with the diagnosis and management of sleep bruxism in children. A search was conducted in May 2023 in PubMed Clinical Queries using the key terms "Bruxism" OR "Teeth grinding" AND "sleep". The search strategy included all observational studies, clinical trials, and reviews published within the past 10 years. Only papers published in the English literature were included in this review. According to the International classification of sleep disorders, the minimum criteria for the diagnosis of sleep bruxism are (1) the presence of frequent or regular (at least three nights per week for at least three months) tooth grinding sounds during sleep and (2) at least one or more of the following (a) abnormal tooth wear; (b) transient morning jaw muscle fatigue or pain; (c) temporary headache; or (d) jaw locking on awaking. According to the International Consensus on the assessment of bruxism, "possible" sleep bruxism can be diagnosed based on self-report or report from family members of tooth-grinding sounds during sleep; "probable" sleep bruxism based on self-report or report from family members of tooth-grinding sounds during sleep plus clinical findings suggestive of bruxism (e.g., abnormal tooth wear, hypertrophy and/or tenderness of masseter muscles, or tongue/lip indentation); and "definite" sleep bruxism based on the history and clinical findings and confirmation by polysomnography, preferably combined with video and audio recording. Although polysomnography is the gold standard for the diagnosis of sleep bruxism, because of the high cost, lengthy time involvement, and the need for high levels of technical competence, polysomnography is not available for use in most clinical settings. On the other hand, since sleep bruxism occurs while the patient is asleep, diagnosis can be difficult as the affected child is usually unaware of the tooth grinding sounds. In clinical practice, the diagnosis of sleep bruxism is often based on the history (e.g., reports of grinding noises during sleep) and clinical findings (e.g., tooth wear, hypertrophy and/or tenderness of masseter muscles). In childhood, sleep-bruxism is typically self-limited and does not require specific treatment. Causative or triggering factors should be eliminated if possible. The importance of sleep hygiene cannot be over-emphasized. Bedtime should be relaxed and enjoyable. Mental stimulation and physical activity should be limited before going to bed. For adults with frequent and severe sleep bruxism who do not respond to the above measures, oral devices can be considered to protect teeth from further damage during bruxism episodes. As the orofacial structures are still developing in the pediatric age group, the benefits and risks of using oral devices should be taken into consideration. Pharmacotherapy is not a favorable option and is rarely used in children. Current evidence on the effective interventions for the management of sleep bruxism in children is inconclusive. There is insufficient evidence to make recommendations for specific treatment at this time.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Bruxism is defined as a repetitive masticatory muscle activity that can manifest it upon awakening (awake bruxism-AB) or during sleep (sleep bruxism-SB). Some forms of both, AB and SB can be associated to many other coexistent factors, considered of risk for the initiation and maintenance of the bruxism. Although controversial, the term 'secondary bruxism' has frequently been used to label these cases. The absence of an adequate definition of bruxism, the non-distinction between the circadian manifestations and the report of many different measurement techniques, however, are important factors to be considered when judging the literature findings. The use (and abuse) of drugs, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and psychoactive substances, the presence of respiratory disorders during sleep, gastroesophageal reflux disorders and movement, neurological and psychiatric disorders are among these factors. The scarcity of controlled studies and the complexity and interactions among all aforementioned factors, unfortunately, does not allow to establish any causality or temporal association with SB and AB. The supposition that variables are related depends on different parameters, not clearly demonstrated in the available studies. OBJECTIVES This narrative review aims at providing oral health care professionals with an update on the co-risk factors and disorders possibly associated with bruxism. In addition, the authors discuss the appropriateness of the term 'secondary bruxism' as a valid diagnostic category based on the available evidence. CONCLUSION The absence of an adequate definition of bruxism, the non-distinction between the circadian manifestations and the report of many different measurement techniques found in many studies preclude any solid and convincing conclusion on the existence of the 'secondary' bruxism.

Abstract
PURPOSE Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) is a biological toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. BoNT is a potent toxin extensively used in therapeutic interventions. This review provides an updated overview of the mechanisms of action and clinical applications of BoNT in head and facial region. STUDY SELECTION MEDLINE/PubMed searches were conducted using the terms "botulinum neurotoxin" and "dentistry" along with a combination of other related terms. In addition, studies were manually selected from reference lists of the selected articles. RESULTS The Food and Drug Administration in the United States initially approved BoNT to treat strabismus, blepharospasm, and hemifacial spasms. The use of BoNT in dermatology and cosmetics has been widely established and has created a revolution in these fields. Over the years, its applications in various medical specialties have expanded widely. Owing to its safety, efficacy, and long duration of action, it is well-accepted by patients. BoNT/A and BoNT/B are widely used in clinical practice. Several off-label uses of BoNT in the dental fraternity have yielded promising results. We have elaborated on the speculated mechanism of action, dosage, effective sites of injection, and adverse effects of each therapeutic application. The various clinical indications for BoNT include bruxism, myofascial pain, temporomandibular joint dislocation, hemifacial pain, orofacial dystonia, facial paralysis, chronic migraine, and trigeminal neuralgia. CONCLUSIONS BoNT is a safe treatment that can be used effectively, provided that the clinician has adequate knowledge regarding the mechanism, injection techniques, and local and systemic side effects and that it is administered cautiously and purposefully.

Abstract
AIMS To synthesize the oral alterations observed in children with microcephaly associated with congenital Zika virus syndrome (CZS), and to compare the oral alterations of these children to a normotypic healthy controls. METHODS AND RESULTS A search was performed in six electronic databases. Observational studies published that reported oral alterations in children with CZS were selected. Two authors independently extracted data, assessed study quality, using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist tools, and the certainty of evidence, using Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach. Twenty-one studies were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The pooled crude occurrence showed 88% of increased salivation (95%CI: 82%-94%), 83% of biofilm (95%CI: 75%-91%), and 73% of bruxism (95%CI: 52%-95%). Compared to normotypic controls, children with CZS-associated microcephaly had a higher chance to have difficulty in lip sealing (OR: 18.28; 95%CI: 1.42-235.91), inadequate lingual posture at rest (OR: 13.57; 95%CI: 4.24-43.44), and delayed eruption (OR: 12.92; 95%CI: 3.42-48.78), with very low certainty. CONCLUSION There are several oral alterations found among children with CZS-associated microcephaly. They are more prone to present some of these alterations, such as difficulty in lip sealing, although with very low certainty of evidence.

Abstract
Ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE) is an emerging modality for the estimation of stiffness, but it has not been studied in relation to common disorders with altered stiffness, such as bruxism, which affects almost one-third of adults. Because this condition could lead to an increased stiffness of masticatory muscles, we investigated SWE in bruxism according to a proof-of-principle and feasibility study with 10 patients with known bruxism and an age- and gender-matched control group. SWE of the left and right masseter muscles was estimated under three conditions: relaxed jaw, 50% of the subjective maximal bite force, and maximal jaw opening. Rejecting the null hypothesis, SWE was significantly increased during relaxed jaw (bruxism 1.92 m/s ± 0.44; controls 1.66 m/s ± 0.24), whereas for maximal mouth opening, the result was vice versa increased with 2.89 m/s ± 0.93 for bruxism patients compared with 3.53 m/s ± 0.95 in the healthy control, which could be due to limited jaw movement in chronic bruxism patients (bruxism 4.46 m/s ± 1.17; controls 5.23 m/s ± 0.43). We show that SWE in bruxism is feasible and could be of potential use for diagnostics and monitoring, though we also highlight important limitations and necessary methodological considerations for future studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rett Syndrome (RTT) is a severe, neurodevelopmental disorder mainly caused by mutations in the MECP2 gene, affecting around 1 in 10,000 female births. Severe physical, language, and social impairments impose a wide range of limitations in the quality of life of the patients with RTT. Comorbidities of patients with RTT are varied and cause a lot of pain, but communicating this suffering is difficult for these patients due to their problems, such as apraxia that does not allow them to express pain in a timely manner, and their difficulties with expressive language that also do not permit them to communicate. Two studies, a pilot study and a single case study, investigate the manifestation of pain of patients with RTT and propose a suitable scale to measure it. AIMS OF THIS STUDY The first aim was to describe pain situations of RTT by collecting information by parents; the second aim was to test and compare existing questionnaires for non-communicating disorders on pain such as Pain assessment in advanced demenzia (PAINAD), the Critical care pain observation tool (CPOT) and the Non-communicating Children's Pain Checklist-Revised (NCCPC-R) to assess which of them is best related to the pain behavior of patients with RTT. The third aim was to identify the specific verbal and non-verbal behaviors that characterize pain in girls with Rett syndrome, discriminating them from non-pain behaviors. METHOD Nineteen participants, eighteen girls with RTT and one girl with RTT with 27 manifestations of pain were video-recorded both in pain and base-line conditions. Two independent observers codified the 90 video-recording (36 and 54) to describe their behavioral characteristics. RESULTS The two studies showed that the most significant pain behaviors expressed by girls with respect to the baseline condition, at the facial level were a wrinkled forehead, wide eyes, grinding, banging teeth, complaining, making sounds, crying and screaming, and the most common manifestations of the body were tremors, forward and backward movement of the torso, tension in the upper limbs, increased movement of the lower limbs and a sprawling movement affecting the whole body. CONCLUSION The results of the two studies helped to create an easy-to-apply scale that healthcare professionals can use to assess pain in patients with Rett's syndrome. This scale used PAINAD as its basic structure, with some changes in the items related to the behavior of patients with RTT.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the treatment efficacy of botulinum-A (BTX-A) in nocturnal bruxism. Five electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane, Embase and Clinical Trials) were searched to identify related randomised controlled trials up to September 1, 2020. Five evaluation indices were extracted, namely, the pain at rest and at chewing (PR and PC), the number of bruxism events (NBE) and the self-assessment by patients (SA), to assess the treatment efficacy of BTX-A in bruxism. All data analyses were conducted using Review Manager (Version 5.3; The Cochrane Collaboration, London, United Kingdom). Six studies were included in this review. The sample was composed of 148 participants. Compared with the placebo group, the BTX-A group showed the significantly improved the PR index scores (MD, 1.16 cm; 95%CI, 0.65 to 1.67 cm; p < 0.00001), slightly improved the PC index scores (SMD, 0.25; 95%CI -0.14 to 0.64; p = 0.21), and the NBEs were significantly decreased in the before-injection group compared with that in the after-injection group (MD, 1.72; 95%CI, 0.60 to 2.85; p = 0.003). The results of this study suggest that BTX-A possesses significant therapeutic efficiency for the relief of pain and events of bruxism. However, whether the events of bruxism would recur or rebound after botulinum toxin injection needs more follow-up clinical evidence.

Abstract
The purpose of this pilot study was to demonstrate the capabilities of the T-Scan Novus system in bruxism treatment by splints. Bruxism patients underwent treatment with a splint made by additive manufacturing. Intraoral scanning was performed using Trios Color (3Shape), and digital design was performed using 3Shape Dental system design - splint studio. The biocompatible material Dental LT Clear Resin was printed using a Formlabs Form 2 printer. The T-Scan Novus system with a software attached to it, version 9.1, was used for digital examination of the occlusion. A splint with an occlusal thickness of 2.5 mm was developed and software adapted with relief to antagonists. The digitally set occlusion with even contacts turned out to be clinically unbalanced. After adjusting with T-Scan Novus, a balanced occlusion was achieved in the right and left halves. The treatment of bruxism with splint therapy continues to be the main method. Its combination with digital technologies allows more precise constructions and more accurate balancing of occlusal relationships.

Abstract
(1) Background: Bruxism, a condition characterized by grinding and involuntary clenching of the teeth, is a risk factor for the development of masticatory dysfunction. It can occur together with sleep disturbances and may be associated with abnormal body movements, breathing difficulties, increased muscle activity, and heart rate disturbances. This disorder is becoming an important dental concern in children. (2) Methods: A literature review was carried out based on a search in PubMed and Google Scholar databases for articles on bruxism in children, published between 2014 and 2021. The etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of bruxism in children were of particular interest in the study. (3) Results: A total of 40 articles were included in the review. The analyzed studies indicated that the prevalence rates of bruxism in children vary widely from 13% to 49%. The etiology of bruxism is complex and incomprehensible, and the main diagnostic criteria for this condition in children are subjective observation, clinical history, and clinical examination. The recommended therapy for sleep bruxism in children is physiotherapy and psychotherapy. (4) Conclusions: Dentists and primary care physicians should correctly diagnose bruxism in children, educate parents, prevent potential consequences for oral health, and identify possible comorbidities. Appropriate clinical guidelines for the treatment and prophylaxis of bruxism in children should also be developed.

Abstract
Introduction: Bruxism is a multifactorial phenomenon that involves grinding or clenching of teeth. The parafunctional habit includes abnormal tooth wear, tooth fracture, pain, and tooth mobility, along with headaches and facial muscle hypertrophy. It is imperative for students to be conscious of teeth grinding along with its possible causes. The student will be alert to visit the dentist if required and contribute to the recognition of etiological factors, to eliminate them. Objective: This study aims to find the prevalence and understanding of bruxism among Gulf Medical University (GMU) students. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study was conducted among 451 GMU students. The parameters for data collection were age, gender, prevalence, associated signs and symptoms, causes, genetic predisposition, time of day, and effect on the appearance of teeth. Results: While 35.9% were unaware, 41.7% of our samples reported bruxism. The majority recognized temporomandibular joint and facial pain as causative, and 24.8% reported symptoms. Headache (26.4%) was prime and 7.5% were associated with fracture and abnormal tooth wear to bruxism (38.1%) experienced night bruxism. A significant number of students (32.4%) identified abnormal anterior teeth relationship as the cause and (64.3%) associated bruxism and esthetics. Conclusion: Nearly 41.7% of the students reported bruxism. Around 35.9% of the samples were uninformed. Nearly 20.8% believed that bruxism had genetic relevance. Nearly 51.9% of the participants were asymptomatic. Around 38.1% had night bruxism and 32.4% identified abnormal anterior teeth relationship as the cause. The majority of the sample (64.3%) connected bruxism to negative effects on teeth and esthetics.

Abstract
Dental microwear formation on the posterior dentition is largely attributed to an organism's diet. However, some have suggested that dietary and environmental abrasives contribute more to the formation process than food, calling into question the applicability of dental microwear to the reconstruction of diet in the fossil record. Creating microwear under controlled conditions would benefit this debate, but requires accurately replicating the oral environment. This study tests the applicability of Artificial Resynthesis Technology (ART 5) to create microwear textures while mitigating the challenges of past research. ART 5 is a simulator that replicates the chewing cycle, responds to changes in food texture, and simulates the actions of the oral cavity. Surgically extracted, occluding pairs of third molars (n = 2 pairs) were used in two chewing experiments: one with dried beef and another with sand added to the dried beef. High-resolution molds were taken at 0, 50, 100, 2500, and 5000 simulated chewing cycles, which equates to approximately 1 week of chewing. Preliminary results show that ART 5 produces microwear textures. Meat alone may produce enamel prism rod exposure at 5000 cycles, although attrition cannot be ruled out. Meat with sand accelerates the wear formation process, with enamel prism rods quickly obliterated and "pit-and-scratch" microwear forming at approximately 2500 cycles. Future work with ART 5 will incorporate a more thorough experimental protocol with improved controls, pH of the simulated oral environment, and grit measurements; however, these results indicate the potential of ART 5 in untangling the complex variables of dental microwear formation.

Abstract
This review elaborates on the aetiology, diagnosis, and treatment of temporomandibular (TMD) myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) regulated by psychosocial factors. MPS impairs functioning in society due to the accompanying pain. Directed and self-directed biopsychosocial profile modulation may be beneficial in the treatment of MPS. Moreover, nutrition is also a considerable part of musculoskeletal system health. A fruit and vegetable diet contributes to a reduction in chronic pain intensity because of its anti-inflammatory influence. Cannabidiol (CBD) oils may also be used in the treatment as they reduce stress and anxiety. A promising alternative treatment may be craniosacral therapy which uses gentle fascia palpation techniques to decrease sympathetic arousal by regulating body rhythms and release fascial restrictions between the cranium and sacrum. MPS is affected by the combined action of the limbic, autonomic, endocrine, somatic, nociceptive, and immune systems. Therefore, the treatment of MPS should be deliberated holistically as it is a complex disorder.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW While traditionally encountered in ambulatory settings, bruxism occurs in patients with a variety of acute neurologic illnesses including encephalitis, intracerebral hemorrhage, traumatic brain injury, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and acute ischemic stroke. Untreated bruxism in acute neurologic illness can lead to tooth loss, difficulty in mouth care resulting in recurrent aspiration pneumonia, endotracheal tube dislodgement, and even tongue laceration or amputation. Inpatient clinicians should be aware of the etiologies and management strategies for bruxism secondary to acute neurologic illness. RECENT FINDINGS Management strategies for bruxism are varied and include pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies in addition to onabotulinumtoxinA (BoNT-A). Bruxism impacts patients with a variety of acute neurologic illnesses, and emerging evidence suggests successful and safe treatment strategies.

Abstract
Awake bruxism is an understudied feature of behavioral variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). We present the case of aman who presented with psychiatric, behavioral, cognitive changes, and teeth clenching that resulted in significant changes in his teeth alignment including an underbite. He received multiple treatments with partial response. He then started using acannabidiol (CBD) capsule, and the grinding was almost completely relieved after this intervention. There is still no standardized pharmacology treatment for bruxism in patients with bvFTD. As aconsequence, acase-by-case approach is suggested. Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Various factors are responsible for sleep bruxism; however, whether the dopaminergic agonist group of drugs is effective in the treatment of sleep bruxism is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the effect of the dopaminergic agonist group of drugs in controlling sleep bruxism in comparison with no treatment or placebo-controlled treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS Two electronic databases, PubMed and Cochrane Central, were searched by using the keywords bruxism, sleep bruxism, dopamine, and dopamine agonist. After screening titles and abstracts, only those articles which met predefined inclusion criteria were selected for full-text assessment. Clinical trials using the dopaminergic agonist group of drugs as a treatment approach to sleep bruxism were included. RESULTS The literature search yielded a total of 64 articles from the 2 electronic databases (PubMed, 53; Cochrane Central, 11). After removal of the duplicates (n=8), the initial screening of titles and abstracts was performed by 2 independent reviewers, removing 46 articles. A total of 10 articles were selected for full-text reading, and 4 studies were included for qualitative analysis. CONCLUSIONS Levodopa (L-DOPA) and Bromocriptine showed decrease in root mean square value in electromyography per bruxism burst (P<.001) and 20% to 30% reduction of bruxism episodes during sleep in 2 different studies. However, treatment with bromocriptine led to conflicting result in another study in terms of frequency of bruxism episodes and amplitude of muscle contractions in electromyography (EMG). Bruxism bursts and episodes were also not significantly improved with another dopaminergic agonist group of drugs, Pramipexole (P>.001). Based on the limited evidence and conflicting results, significant conclusions cannot be generated, and further studies are required.

Abstract
Nocturnal events of wide variety and concern are frequently reported by patients and their caregivers. To evaluate suspected abnormal events, primary care physicians must first be familiar with normal behaviors, movements and breathing patterns. Abnormal nocturnal events can then be categorized as nocturnal seizure, parasomnia, sleep-related movement disorder or sleep-related breathing disorder. Diagnoses in the above categories can be made clinically; however, it is important to know when to refer for additional evaluation. Comprehensive literature review was undertaken of nocturnal and sleep-related disorders. This guide reviews nocturnal seizures, normal and abnormal nonepileptic movements and behaviors, discusses broad indications for referral for electroencephalography (EEG) or polysomnography (PSG), and guides counseling and management for patients and their families, ultimately aiding in interpretation of both findings and prognosis. Epilepsy syndromes can result in seizures during sleep or adjacent periods of wakefulness. Parasomnias and sleep-related movement disorders tend to also occur in childhood and may be distinguished clinically. Referral to additional specialists for specific studies including EEG or PSG can be necessary, while other times a knowledgeable and vigilant clinician can contribute to a prompt diagnosis based on clinical features. Nocturnal events often can be managed with parental reassurance and watchful waiting, but treatment or evaluation may be needed. Sleep-related breathing disorders are important to recognize as they present very differently in children than in adults and early intervention can be life-saving. This review should allow both primary and subspecialty non-neurologic pediatric and adolescent health care providers to better utilize EEG and PSG as part of a larger comprehensive clinical approach, distinguishing and managing both epileptic and nonepileptic nocturnal disorders of concern while fostering communication across providers to facilitate and coordinate better holistic long-term care of pediatric and adolescent patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To compare the manual time and preliminary clinical effects between the digital manufactured occlusal splints for sleep bruxism patients with those of traditional hard splints. METHODS Sixteen individuals (18 to 44 y/o) with clinically diagnosed sleep bruxism were selected based on the inclusion criteria. All patients were divided into two groups, and a random control method was applied. Digital splints (test group) were designed and milled using CAD/CAM. Hard splints (control group) were made of transparent acrylic resin in laboratory office. The manual time spent including impression obtaining, splint production and clinical occlusal adjustment was recorded. A visual analog scale was used to report the subjective evaluations. The maximum depth loss and volumetric loss of the occlusal surface of splints in posterior tooth were measured. SPSS software was used for statistical analysis (P = .05). RESULTS Comparing with control group, the manual time spent in test group was significantly less in all of three procedures (P < .001). The VAS scores for retention were not significantly different (P = .086), but the wearing comfort scores of test group were significantly higher (P < .001). Both maximum depth loss (P = .007) and volumetric loss in test group were significantly less than control group (P = .005). CONCLUSION In the current study, the digitally manufactured splints exhibit significantly improved comfort and time efficiency than traditional hard splints. Moreover, the new milling material (PEEK) has better wear resistance than acrylic resins.

However, the effectiveness of botulinum toxin injections as an alternative to traditional therapies in the management of primary bruxism is still unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this systematic review was to analyze the clinical outcomes of the use of botulinum toxin type A injections in the management of primary bruxism in adults. MATERIAL AND METHODS Databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, LILIACS, Cochrane Library, and Open Grey Literature were searched without language or date restrictions until October 6, 2019. Using Mendeley Desktop software to organize the references, 2 independent researchers selected the published clinical studies (Study type) on the improvement of symptoms (Outcome) in human adults with primary bruxism (Participants/Population) who received botulinum toxin type A injections (Intervention), placebo injections, saline injections, no injections, or other treatments (Comparator(s)/Control) for the management of bruxism. RESULTS A total of 601 references were initially obtained from the 6 databases. Six randomized clinical trials and 4 case series were selected and critically appraised according to the Fowkes and Fulton guidelines. Heterogeneity among the studies did not allow for a meta-analysis. All studies supported the efficacy and safety of botulinum toxin injections in reducing the symptoms of primary bruxism. CONCLUSIONS Botulinum toxin type A injections are effective in the treatment of the symptoms of primary bruxism in adults. Randomized clinical trials are still needed to establish a protocol for using botulinum toxin as an alternative to traditional therapies in the management of primary bruxism.

Abstract
This multiple case study analysis describes the immediate effects on speech fluency of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) applied to participants with persistent stuttering and concomitant orofacial disorders. Study participants were 14 adolescents and adults who stuttered and had jaw clenching bruxism or mouth breathing. Participants experienced low-frequency TENS applied at mild motor level for 20 minutes with electrodes placed at the lower third of the face (Area A), submandibular region (Area B), posterior neck (Area C), or shoulder girdle (Area D), with speech fluency assessed immediately before and after each stimulation.For participants with stuttering and bruxism, AB stimulation reduced the median frequency of syllables stuttered by 27% and reduced the median duration of the three highest stuttering moments by 29%. In addition, for participants with stuttering and mouth breathing, CD stimulation reduced the median duration of the three highest stuttering moments by 28% and increased their median speech rate by 113%. As a single session of TENS may help participants with stuttering and concomitant orofacial disorders better use fluency shaping techniques, the therapeutic potential of TENS for treating stuttering should be further investigated.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to perform a critical reflection about intervention options for bruxism reduction in children and adolescents. Search was conducted based on the PICO-structured question: "What are the intervention options to reduce bruxism in children/adolescents?". No language, year, or study design restrictions were imposed. Studies reporting interventions to reduce bruxism in children (< 10) and adolescents (10 to 19 years old) were included. Reviews and letters to editors were not included. From 2723 records, 17 papers were included. Included studies were primarily randomized clinical trials performed in Brazil (35.3%) and using different criteria for the diagnosis of bruxism. Reduction in self-reported bruxism and headaches associated with bruxism were observed in studies that used medications (hydroxyzine/trazodone/flurazepam), occlusal splints, orthodontic interventions, and psychological and physical therapy interventions. Reduction in Rhythmic Masticatory Muscle Activity was observed with the use of the occlusal splint and in orthodontic interventions. Alternative treatments (medicinal extracts such as Melissa officinalis-L) have shown inconclusive results.Conclusions: Several intervention options are available to inhibit or reduce bruxism activity. Abstract
Most sleep bruxism (SB) episodes are accompanied by an increase in sympathetic tone and heart rate (HR). To characterise heart rate (HR) changes in relation to rhythmic masticatory muscle activities (RMMAs) in SB patients, polysomnographic recordings were performed on 10 SB patients and 11 normal controls. The duration of movement events, amplitude and duration of HR increases, and time to reach HR peak associated with RMMAs and limb movements (LMs) were determined, and the relationships of the parameters of HR increases with types of movements and RMMAs were analysed. All of the parameters of HR increases associated with three types of movements (RMMAs, RMMAs + LMs and LMs) and masseter activities (phasic, tonic and mixed) were significantly different (two-way ANOVA, P < .001 for all) in both SB patients and controls. The duration of RMMAs/LMs was positively correlated with the parameters (SB patients: R2 = .24-.85, P < .0001; controls: R2 = .23-.68, P < .0001). The amplitude of HR increases was also positively correlated with respiration changes in the SB patients (R2 = .3258, P < .0001) and controls (R2 = .09469, P < .05). The proportions of phasic RMMAs associated with awakenings, microarousals and no cortical arousals were significantly different and so were the proportions of tonic and mixed RMMAs (Friedman's tests, P < .05-.001). The HR increases associated with RMMAs may be intrinsic to the cortical arousal response and autonomic activation, and differences in HR increases associated with different types of movements and RMMAs might be related to the changes in respiration and differences in cortical arousal levels.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To establish a complete workflow of digital design and manufacturing occlusal splint for sleep bruxism, which can be preliminarily applied in clinical use, thus observe the clinical efficacy. METHODS Twenty-four patients with sleep bruxism were recruited in the study and randomly divided into two groups by using random number tables. Digital-occlusal-splint (experimental group) treatment plan and traditional-occlusal-splint (control-group) treatment plan were carried out for each group, respectively. For experimental group, digital models of patients' both dental arches and the occlusion relationship after elevation were captured using an intraoral scanner. The occlusal splint was carried out by computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), including splint designing and milling. For control group, the traditional soft occlusal splint was fabricated by vacuum laminator. The two kinds of occlusal splints were tried in the patients from each group, and the occlusal contacts were tested respectively by T-scan analysis system, which recorded the changes of occlusal indicators in the two groups. The retention, appearance and occlusal comfort degree were evaluated by the two groups of patients. Mann-Whitney test was performed with IBM SPSS 20.0 software, and bilateral test was performed. P<0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. RESULTS The complete workflow of digital design and manufacturing occlusal splint was successfully established. During the clinical use, there was no statistical difference in the retention evaluation of two kinds of occlusal splints between the two groups of patients (Z=-0.538, P=0.590). The appearance score (Z=2.038, P=0.042) and the occlusal comfort score (Z=-2.579, P=0.010) of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group, with statistically significant differences. The T-scan analysis results showed that only the second molar on both sides of the traditional occlusal splint had occlusal contact in intercupsal position, while the digital occlusal splint had stable and bilaterally balanced contact between the maxillary and mandibular teeth. Furthermore, the occlusal force was uniformly distributed in the experimental group. CONCLUSION The complete workflow of digital occlusal splint improves the occlusal design, greatly simplifies and optimizes the traditional process of making occlusal splint. This new method is resource-saving and environmental-friendly, and it is able to serve patients more conveniently and efficiently.

Abstract
Heterozygous mutations in syntaxin-binding protein 1 (STXBP1) gene are associated with early infantile epileptic encephalopathy 4 (EIEE4). This condition is characterized by epilepsy, developmental delay (DD), and various movement disorders. Herein, we will report 5 unrelated patients with different de novo mutations in STXBP1. In addition, we conducted an online survey through Facebook to identify the incidence of bruxism (BRX) in these patients. Four out of 5 patients (80%) presented with awake BRX (A-BRX). Bruxism was also reported in 81.4% (57/70) of the patients with STXBP1 encephalopathy through the online questionnaire. No consistent correlation was identified between the type of mutation and development of movement disorders or BRX. This is the first study to demonstrate A-BRX in patients with STXBP1 mutation. Given the role of STXBP1 in exocytosis of neurotransmitters and other manifestations of dopamine dysregulation in patients with STXBP1-EIEE4, we suggest that in patients with STXBP1 encephalopathy, A-BRX might be the result of the involvement of dopaminergic circuits.

Abstract
Stimulants-related bruxism has been previously reported; both diurnal and nocturnal. Here, authors report on a case of methylphenidate (MPH)-treated attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder that developed nocturnal bruxism and failed multiple pharmacologic trials. Add-on clonidine has successfully helped with bruxisms while augmenting MPH response. This was achieved with great tolerability. This remains a viable option to deploy in such unusual clinical scenarios.

Abstract
Introduction Bruxism is defined as a nonfunctional activity or a parafunctional habit characterized by the unconscious repetitive motion of clenching and/or grinding of the teeth. Soft occlusal splints have been considered as the first-line strategy for treating nocturnal bruxism. Cortisol is a major steroid hormone secreted by fascicular zone of the adrenal cortex, belonging to the glucocorticosteroidal group of hormones. Clinical studies have shown that when humans are placed under stress, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical axis is activated, leading to an increase in cortical secretion. However, the effect of splint is questionable by some researchers, and best way to perceive the effect of soft splints in patients with bruxism is by evaluating the stress levels. Materials and Methods A total of 20 individuals suffering from bruxism were selected from the Outpatient Department of Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge, JSS Dental College and Hospital, Mysore. Saliva samples were collected before and after using the occlusal soft splints and subjected to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for determining the salivary cortisol levels. Results The collected data were subjected to appropriate descriptive statistics, paired sample t-test, and one sample t-test. The paired sample t-test shows that intragroup comparison of the mean cortisol level in the study group shows near significant values, which means there is a decrease in the salivary cortisol levels in patients after using soft occlusal splint, but statistically nonsignificant. Conclusion In the present study, it has been found that 70% of individuals after using the soft occlusal splint showed decreased cortisol levels.

Abstract
Patients with sleep-related motor and behavioral disorders present to a variety of subspecialty clinics (neurology, sleep medicine, respiratory medicine, psychiatry). Diagnosing these disorders can be difficult, and sometimes they have a significant impact on quality of life. Alongside a number of common and well-recognized conditions, several new disease entities have been described in recent years that present with abnormal nocturnal motor phenomena (such as ADCY5-associated disease and anti-IgLON5 disease). Our understanding of the neural basis and prognostic significance of other sleep-related disorders has also grown, particularly rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder. This review (along with a collection of previously unpublished videos) is intended to aid in the recognition and treatment of these patients. The recent change in terminology from nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy to sleep-related hypermotor epilepsy is also discussed. © 2018 International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.

Abstract
We evaluated, by means of a non-invasive procedure based on MRI, the masticatory muscular microstructure in a 55-year-old-female patient affected by bruxism. The patient underwent MR examination before and after 1 month of splint therapy, when she mentioned the complete disappearance of all symptoms. By means of diffusion tensor imaging we observed changes at microstructural level of masticatory muscular complex. We conclude that diffusion tensor imaging may be a useful instrument both to perform panoramic reconstruction of the masticatory muscle complex and to investigate microstructural modifications related to the pain relief in bruxism.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Previous research has suggested that antidepressants can be used in oral health care. The aim of this systematic review was to search for scientific evidence of the efficacy of the use of antidepressants in dentistry. MATERIALS AND METHODS The clinical question was as follows (PICO question): dentistry patients (Patients); antidepressants (Intervention); no use or placebo or other drug (Comparison); and efficacy in oral health problems (Outcome). An electronic search was conducted in seven databases, as well as a manual search without restriction regarding language and date of publication. Two independent reviewers selected studies based on eligibility criteria, extracted data and assessed methodological quality based on the PEDro scale. The PROSPERO record is number CRD42016037442. RESULTS A total of 15 randomized controlled trials were associated with the use of antidepressants to control chronic or acute pain in dentistry, among other conditions such as bruxism and burning mouth syndrome. The most commonly used drug in clinical trials was amitriptyline (more than 50% of studies). CONCLUSIONS Antidepressants may be effective in dentistry for acute and chronic pain, but there is a large amount of methodological heterogeneity among the evaluated studies. In summary, there is rationality for the indication of this class of medicine in dentistry in specific clinical situations.

Abstract
The therapeutic applications of botulinum toxin (BoNT) have grown manifold since its initial approval in 1989 by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of strabismus, blepharospasm, and other facial spasms. Although it is the most potent biologic toxin known to man, long-term studies have established its safety in the treatment of a variety of neurologic and non-neurologic disorders. This review focuses on some novel and uncommon uses of BoNT in the treatment of movement disorders, such as oromandibular dystonia, including bruxism, anterocollis, camptocormia, tremor, tics, tardive and levodopa-induced dyskinesia, and restless legs syndrome. Despite a paucity of randomized controlled trials and lack of FDA approval for these movement disorders, there is growing body of evidence that BoNT provides benefit to patients with these hyperkinetic movement disorders and that BoNT is a safe treatment when used by clinicians skilled in the administration of the drug for these conditions.

Abstract
Background To evaluate the role of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) in the treatment of pain associated with nocturnal bruxism. Material and Methods Fifty subjects reporting nocturnal bruxism were recruited for a randomized clinical trial. Twenty five bruxers were injected with botulinum toxin in both masseters, and twenty five were treated with traditional methods of treating bruxism. Patients were evaluated at 3rd week, 2nd and 6th month and one year after injection and then used to calculate bruxism events. Bruxism symptoms were investigated using questionnaires. Results Mean pain score due to Bruxism events in the masseter muscle decreased significantly in the botulinum toxin injection group A (P =0.000, highly significant). However, in the conventional treatment group, mean pain score does not show improvement with time (p>0.05). Conclusions Our results suggest that botulinum toxin injection reduced the mean pain score and number of bruxism events, most likely by decreasing the muscle activity of masseter rather than affecting the central nervous system. Abstract
Clostridium botulinum (group-III) is an anaerobic bacterium producing C2 and C3 toxins in addition to botulinum neurotoxins in avian and mammalian cells. C2 and C3 toxins are members of bacterial ADP-ribosyltransferase superfamily, which modify the eukaryotic cell surface proteins by ADP-ribosylation reaction. Herein, the mutant proteins with lack of catalytic and pore forming function derived from C2 (C2I and C2II) and C3 toxins were computationally evaluated to understand their structure-function integrity. We have chosen many structural constraints including local structural environment, folding process, backbone conformation, conformational dynamic sub-space, NAD-binding specificity and antigenic determinants for screening of suitable avirulent toxins. A total of 20 avirulent mutants were identified out of 23 mutants, which were experimentally produced by site-directed mutagenesis. No changes in secondary structural elements in particular to α-helices and β-sheets and also in fold rate of all-β classes. Structural stability was maintained by reordered hydrophobic and hydrogen bonding patterns. Molecular dynamic studies suggested that coupled mutations may restrain the binding affinity to NAD(+) or protein substrate upon structural destabilization. Avirulent toxins of this study have stable energetic backbone conformation with a common blue print of folding process. Molecular docking studies revealed that avirulent mutants formed more favorable hydrogen bonding with the side-chain of amino acids near to conserved NAD-binding core, despite of restraining NAD-binding specificity. Thus, structural constraints in the avirulent toxins would determine their immunogenic nature for the prioritization of protein-based subunit vaccine/immunogens to avian and veterinary animals infected with C. botulinum.
