Abstract
BACKGROUND Healthy lifestyle counseling improves nutritional intake and participation in exercise, yet the rate of patient counseling varies and clinicians' personal behaviors can influence counseling practices. PURPOSE This cross-sectional study evaluated lifestyle counseling by nurse practitioners (NPs) and the relationship between their personal behaviors and patient counseling. METHODOLOGY Practicing NPs ( N = 1,220) completed an online survey regarding personal behaviors and counseling for healthy body weight, moderate-vigorous physical activity, muscle strengthening, fruit and vegetable consumption, and dietary protein. RESULTS The majority reported counseling "usually" or "often" for healthy weight (54%), moderate-vigorous physical activity (53%), and fruits/vegetables (57%), whereas only 44% and 17% reported "usually" or "often" counseling for dietary protein and muscle strengthening. When NPs did not personally engage in the behavior, the odds for counseling were significantly reduced: NPs were 21% less likely to counsel for moderate-vigorous physical activity (odds ratio [OR] = 0.79 [0.65-0.97], p = .026), 27% less likely to counsel for muscle strengthening (OR = 0.73 [0.60-0.90], p = .004), 57% less likely to counsel for fruit/vegetable consumption (OR = 0.43 [0.35-0.54], p < .001), and 72% less likely to counsel for dietary protein (OR = 0.28 [0.18-0.45], p < .001). Personal body mass index did not predict counseling for a healthy weight. CONCLUSION Although NPs report regular patient counseling regarding healthy lifestyle behaviors, the odds for counseling are increased approximately 20-75% when they engage in the behaviors themselves. IMPLICATIONS Promotion of healthy behaviors during professional education may have long-term implications for preventive health counseling.

Abstract
Persons with underlying noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are more likely to acquire severe coronavirus disease 2019 disease and to die from coronavirus disease 2019. An urgent need for potential therapy to prevent and control NCDs is critical. We hypothesized that higher intakes of multiple individual nutrients, fruits, or vegetables would be linked with a low risk of NCDs in the Korean population. Thus, we aim to explore the association between NCDs, including cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), arthritis, depression, and dietary factors. A total of 56,462 adults aged 18 years (2009-2019) were included. Dietary factors, including intakes of multiple individual nutrients, fruits, and vegetables, were assessed. Multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models were used to explore the associations between dietary factors and NCDs. Interactions were found between intakes of multiple individual nutrients and sex for T2DM, hypertension, stroke, myocardial infarction, arthritis, and osteoarthritis. Only in women was a 2-fold increase in daily multiple individual nutrient intake (vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C; potassium, protein; phosphorus; calcium; iron; monounsaturated fatty acid and polyunsaturated fatty acid; n-3 fatty acid and n-6 fatty acid; and water) associated with a lower prevalence of T2DM, hypertension, stroke, myocardial infarction, arthritis, and osteoarthritis. In both women and men, high fruit or vegetable consumption was linked with a lower risk of T2DM, hypertension, dyslipidemia, osteoarthritis, and depression than low consumption. Our findings found higher intakes of fruits, vegetables, and multiple individual nutrients are linked with a lower risk of NCDs in the Korean adult population. Further work is needed to identify whether interactions between intake of multiple individual nutrients, vegetables, and fruits affect the presence of NCDs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluates the role of diet in determining knee osteoarthritis risk. METHODS Literature search was conducted in Ovid, PubMed, Science Direct, and Springer. To estimate knee osteoarthritis risk with high use of vegetarian, prudent, and omnivorous diets, dairy products, vitamin C/E, and carotenoids, the odds ratios (ORs) or relative risks (RRs) reported by included studies were pooled. RESULTS Fifteen studies (97,157 individuals) were included. High use of vegetarian diet {OR 0.71 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.45, 0.97]}, prudent diet [OR 0.87 (95% CI: 0.76, 0.98)/RR 0.89 (95% CI: 0.82, 0.97)], and dairy [OR 0.66 (95% CI: -0.08, 1.39)/RR 0.58 (95% CI: 0.41, 0.75)] were associated with lower risk of knee osteoarthritis but risk was relatively higher with high use of omnivorous diet [OR 1.13 (95% CI: 0.95, 1.30)/RR 1.06 (95% CI: 0.84, 1.29) and 1.05 (0.78, 1.33)]. High intake of vitamin C [OR 0.92 (0.29, 1.56)] or E [OR 0.93 (0.64, 1.21)] did not reduce knee osteoarthritis risk, but high use of carotenoids was associated with the lower risk [OR 0.66 (0.37, 0.96)]. CONCLUSIONS Knee osteoarthritis risk is low with high use of vegetarian diet, prudent diet, and dairy, but cannt be reduced by high intakes of vitamin C/E.

Abstract
Introduction: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has estimated that 80% of people with osteoarthritis (OA) have movement limitations while 25% of them cannot perform their major daily activities, thus resulting in a decline of their nutritional status and quality of life (QOL). Therefore, this study aimed to compare the nutritional status and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of OA patients between gender and age group. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 131 OA patients in Rehabilitation Health Organisation, Terengganu. Socio-demographic, clinical, lifestyle histories, 24-hour dietary intake and HRQOL were assessed using a structured questionnaire. Results: Knee and/or hip OA patients recruited consisted of 19.1% of men and 80.9 % of women collectively with a mean age of 61.81 (9.28) years ranging from 38 to 83 years. The percentages of underweight, normal, overweight, and obese patients were 1.5%, 12.2%, 36.7%, and 49.6%, respectively. Further assessment of HRQOL showed that the highest mean score was obtained by the social functioning (SF) domain of 41.25 (27.16), while the mental domain scored the least mean score of 21.15 (20.92). In terms of gender breakdown, the males had significantly greater weight and height but lower body fat (BF) compared to their female counterparts, as well as a significantly higher energy, carbohydrate and protein intake. According to the age group, patients aged < 60 years had significantly greater weight, height, and BF than those aged ≥ 60 years. Conclusion: This study is an important baseline reference for proper OA management and prevention by providing crucial nutritional status and HRQOL information.

Abstract
Food consumption has significant positive effects on an individual’s health status, including the reduction of symptoms associated with musculoskeletal pain. However, specific food groups indicated for the treatment of pain are not yet determined. Hence, this review aimed to analyze the effects of nutritional interventions with specific diets, oils and/or fatty acids, and foodstuffs in natura in the reduction of musculoskeletal pain. An integrative review was conducted in the following databases: Embase, PubMed, LILACS, and Google Scholar. Clinical trials written in English, Spanish, and Portuguese and published between 2000 and March 2020 were included in this review. Seventeen studies were included. Among these, a reduction of musculoskeletal pain with different types of nutritional interventions, such as vegan and Mediterranean diets and the consumption of blueberry, strawberry, passion fruit peel extract, argan oil, fish oil (omega-3), olive oil, and undenatured type II collagen and vitamin D gel capsules, was observed in 14 studies. Eight studies evaluated the profiles of several inflammatory markers, and of these, decreased interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, and tumor necrosis factor-α levels were observed in two studies. This review suggests that different nutritional interventions with specific diets, oils and/or fatty acids, and foodstuffs in natura reduce musculoskeletal pain, specifically in adults with osteoarthritis. Besides pain improvement, nutritional interventions, including the consumption of strawberry and vitamin D gel capsules, decrease the levels of several inflammatory markers.

Abstract
Emerging literature suggests that diet plays an important modulatory role in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) because diet is an environmental factor that affects inflammation, antigen presentation, antioxidant defense mechanisms and gut microbiota. Patients with RA frequently ask their doctors about which diets to follow, and even in the absence of advice from their physicians, many patients are undertaking various dietary interventions. Given this background, the aim of this review is to evaluate the evidence to date regarding the ideal dietary approach for management of RA in order to reduce the counteracting inflammation, and to construct a food pyramid for patients with RA. The pyramid shows that carbohydrates should be consumed every day (3 portions of whole grains, preferably gluten free), together with fruits and vegetables (5 portions; among which fruit, berries and citrus fruit are to be preferred, and among the vegetables, green leafy ones.), light yogurt (125 ml), skim milk (200 ml), 1 glass (125 ml) of wine and extra virgin olive oil; weekly, fish (3 portions), white meat (3 portions), legumes (2 portions) eggs (2 portions), seasoned cheeses (2 portions), and red or processed meats (once a week). At the top of the pyramid, there are two pennants: one green means that subjects with RA need some personalized supplementation (vitamin D and omega 3) and one red means that there are some foods that are banned (salt and sugar). The food pyramid allows patients to easily figure out what to eat.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic joint disease characterized by degeneration of the articular cartilage, changes in the physico-chemical properties of the synovial fluid and macroscopical modifications of the joint. Patients with Classes I and II of Knee OA can be treated with pharmacologic therapy. Vitamin C is key for both preventing inflammatory arthritis and maintaining healthy joints with OA. AIM The aim of our paper is to verify the effectiveness of the addition of vitamin c in nutriceutical drugs for the therapy of the knee arthritis in the young adult. RESULTS Group B has a lower VAS score at 6 and 12 months with p<0.05. Not statistical difference we found in KSS during all follow up. A better quality of life was founded in Group B at 12 months in group B(p<0.05) and less use of pain killers/monthly(p<0.05). CONCLUSION There is no denying that vitamin C benefits everybody, whether they have arthritis or not. Therefore, it is a good idea to maintain a healthy balance of vitamin C. Without a doubt, vitamin C benefits most people with early OA.

Among the few available non-surgical approaches, nutraceuticals have gained popularity, and dietary berries have mitigated arthritis symptoms in observational and animal studies. Clinical studies in OA are sparse, but recently we reported that strawberry supplementation can mitigate pain and reduce inflammatory markers in adults with knee OA. This study extends those observations. METHODS We conducted a randomized cross-over double-blind placebo-controlled trial on the effects of dietary freeze-dried strawberries on obesity-related hormones, biomarkers of inflammation and lipid peroxidation. Seventeen subjects (4 men, 13 women; age 57 ± 3 year) were randomized to strawberry supplements (50 g day-1 for 12 weeks) vs. placebo (50 g day-1, matched for calories and fiber), for two 12-week intervention periods, separated by 2-week washout phase. RESULTS Among 24 biomarkers of inflammation examined (Bioplex-Pro human inflammation panel), 12 were detectable in all samples. Among these, high-sensitivity TNF-α (hs-TNF-α) and the soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor (sTNF-R2) were significantly decreased after strawberry consumption (p < 0.05). There were no changes in other biomarkers of the TNF super family, such as APRIL and BAFF. Among serum biomarkers of oxidative stress, 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE) and conjugated dienes were also reduced (p < 0.05). No changes were observed in body weight, serum obesity-related hormones, or osteocalcin. CONCLUSION Strawberries lowered TNF-α, and lipid peroxidation products in obese adults with knee OA. Since, they also mitigate pain, these findings merit further investigation in larger trials.

Abstract
Osteoarthritis is the most prevalent chronic inflammatory joint disease affecting mobility in humans, as well as in companion and captive animals. Understanding the effect of dietary phytochemical intake from foods on osteoarthritis and its long-term outcomes may inform public health strategies for osteoarthritis prevention and management, reducing healthcare costs globally. The aim of this systematic review was to examine the effects of dietary phytochemical intake from foods on osteoarthritis in adult populations. A literature search was performed using Scopus, Web of Science, MEDLINE, PubMed and the Cochrane Library for human studies to identify randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies focused on osteoarthritis up to May 2018. From 5879 articles, five RCTs and four cross-sectional studies were identified. Dietary carotenoids were examined in the observational studies, while dietary intakes of polyphenols from foods were assessed in the RCTs. Dietary polyphenol intake from foods (e.g., freeze-dried strawberries and tart cherry juice) may slow the progression of osteoarthritis via decreased inflammation and reduced cartilage degradation. However, there were relatively few studies and a lack of uniformity in the biomarkers used and the measurements of pain, quality of life and physical activity relating to osteoarthritis. The heterogeneity among the studies suggests that there is insufficient evidence related to phytochemical intake from foods. High-quality epidemiological studies and controlled trials are therefore required. Nevertheless, exploring dietary phytochemical intake from foods may complement current dietary strategies for the management of osteoarthritis and help in the formulation of more economical and manageable strategies for osteoarthritis.

Abstract
Arthritis is a global health concern affecting a significant proportion of the population and associated with reduced quality of life. Among the different forms of arthritis, osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are the most common and lacking a definite cure in the affected individuals. Fruits, such as berries and pomegranates are rich sources of a variety of dietary bioactive compounds, especially the polyphenolic flavonoids that have been associated with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Emerging research demonstrates a protective role of fruits and their polyphenols in pre-clinical, clinical and epidemiological studies of OA and RA. In this context, commonly available fruits, such as blueberries, raspberries and strawberries, and pomegranates have shown promising results in reducing pain and inflammation in experimental models and in human clinical studies of arthritis. There is also some evidence on the role of specific fruit polyphenols, such as quercetin and citrus flavonoids in alleviating RA symptoms. These emerging data deserve further investigation in rigorous scientific studies to determine the mechanisms, dosing and selection of fruits and fruit extracts in arthritis management.
