Hot-Casting Large-Grain Perovskite Film for Efficient Solar Cells: Film Formation and Device Performance

2D Ruddlesden-Popper Perovskites with Polymer Additive as Stable and Transparent Optoelectronic Materials for Building-Integrated Applications

We report on the use of 2D Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskites as optoelectronic materials in building-integrated applications, addressing the challenge of balancing transparency, photoluminescence, and stability. With the addition of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), the 2D RP films exhibit superior transparency compared to their 3D counterparts with an average visible transmittance (AVT) greater than 50% and photoluminescence stability under continuous illumination and 85 °C heat for up to 100 h as bare, unencapsulated films. Structural investigations show a stress relaxation in the 3D perovskite films after degradation from thermal aging that is not observed in the 2D RP films, which retain their phase after thermal and light aging. We also demonstrate ultrasmooth, wide-bandgap 2D Dion-Jacobson (DJ) films with PVP incorporation up to 2.95 eV, an AVT above 70%, and roughnesses of ~2 nm. These findings contribute to the development of next-generation solar materials, paving the way for their integration into built structures.

In Situ Dual-Interface Passivation Strategy Enables The Efficiency of Formamidinium Perovskite Solar Cells Over 25

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are promising candidates for next-generation photovoltaics owing to their unparalleled power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). Currently, approaches to further improve device efficiencies tend to focus on the passivation of interfacial defects. Although various strategies have been developed to mitigate these defects, many involve complex and time-consuming post-treatment processes, thereby hindering their widespread adoption in commercial applications. In this work, a concise but efficient in situ dual-interface passivation strategy is developed wherein 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium methanesulfonate (MS) is employed as a precursor additive. During perovskite crystallization, MS can either be enriched downward through precipitation with SnO2 , or can be aggregated upward through lattice extrusion. These self-assembled MS species play a significant role in passivating the defect interfaces, thereby reducing nonradiative recombination losses, and promoting more efficient charge extraction. As a result, a PCE >25% (certified PCE of 24.84%) is achieved with substantially improved long-term storage and photothermal stabilities. This strategy provides valuable insights into interfacial passivation and holds promise for the industrialization of PSCs.

2D/3D Perovskite Photodetectors with High Response Frequency and Improved Stability Based on Thiophene-2-ethylamine and Dual Additives

Organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite materials have received great attention in recent years. However, the poor stability of these materials severely limits the commercial application of perovskite devices. Here, we used thiophene-2-ethylammonium iodide (TEAI) material as the organic spacer NH₄SCN and NH₄Cl as the dual additives to realize high-stability two-dimensional (2D)/three-dimensional (3D) perovskite thin films for perovskite photodetectors. Then, we investigated different effects of the dual additives on the orientation and crystallinity of the perovskite films. At room temperature, the optimized 2D/3D perovskite photodetectors exhibit good performance with high external quantum efficiency (EQE) (72%), large responsivity (0.36 A/W), high detectivity (2.46 × 10¹² Jones at the bias of 0 V), high response frequency (1.7 MHz), and improved stability (retains 90% photocurrent after 2000 h storage in RT and 10% RH conditions). Based on these devices, a dual-channel optical transport system and a light-intensity adder are achieved. The results of this study indicate that, with a simple process, the TEAI and dual-additives based 2D/3D perovskite photodetectors have promising applications in light-intensity adder and optical communication systems.

Inorganic Halide Perovskite Quantum Dots: A Versatile Nanomaterial Platform for Electronic Applications

Metal halide perovskites have generated significant attention in recent years because of their extraordinary physical properties and photovoltaic performance. Among these, inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) stand out for their prominent merits, such as quantum confinement effects, high photoluminescence quantum yield, and defect-tolerant structures. Additionally, ligand engineering and an all-inorganic composition lead to a robust platform for ambient-stable QD devices. This review presents the state-of-the-art research progress on inorganic perovskite QDs, emphasizing their electronic applications. In detail, the physical properties of inorganic perovskite QDs will be introduced first, followed by a discussion of synthesis methods and growth control. Afterwards, the emerging applications of inorganic perovskite QDs in electronics, including transistors and memories, will be presented. Finally, this review will provide an outlook on potential strategies for advancing inorganic perovskite QD technologies.

Fully Roll-to-Roll Processed Efficient Perovskite Solar Cells via Precise Control on the Morphology of PbI2:CsI Layer

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted tremendous attention as a promising alternative candidate for clean energy generation. Many attempts have been made with various deposition techniques to scale-up manufacturing. Slot-die coating is a robust and facile deposition technique that can be applied in large-area roll-to-roll (R2R) fabrication of thin film solar cells with the advantages of high material utilization, low cost and high throughput. Herein, we demonstrate the encouraging result of PSCs prepared by slot-die coating under ambient environment using a two-step sequential process whereby PbI₂:CsI is slot-die coated first followed by a subsequent slot-die coating of organic cations containing solution. A porous PbI₂:CsI film can promote the rapid and complete transformation into perovskite film. The crystallinity and morphology of perovskite films are significantly improved by optimizing nitrogen blowing and controlling substrate temperature. A power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 18.13% is achieved, which is promising for PSCs fabricated by two-step fully slot-die-coated devices. Furthermore, PSCs with a 1 cm² area yield a champion PCE of 15.10%. Moreover, a PCE of 13.00% is obtained on a flexible substrate by the roll-to-roll (R2R) coating, which is one of the highest reported cells with all layers except for metal electrode fabricated by R2R process under ambient condition.

Advances and Challenges in Two-Dimensional Organic-Inorganic Hybrid Perovskites Toward High-Performance Light-Emitting Diodes

Two-dimensional (2D) perovskites are known as one of the most promising luminescent materials due to their structural diversity and outstanding optoelectronic properties. Compared with 3D perovskites, 2D perovskites have natural quantum well structures, large exciton binding energy (Eb) and outstanding thermal stability, which shows great potential in the next-generation displays and solid-state lighting. In this review, the fundamental structure, photophysical and electrical properties of 2D perovskite films were illustrated systematically. Based on the advantages of 2D perovskites, such as special energy funnel process, ultra-fast energy transfer, dense film and low efficiency roll-off, the remarkable achievements of 2D perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) are summarized, and exciting challenges of 2D perovskite are also discussed. An outlook on further improving the efficiency of pure-blue PeLEDs, enhancing the operational stability of PeLEDs and reducing the toxicity to push this field forward was also provided. This review provides an overview of the recent developments of 2D perovskite materials and LED applications, and outlining challenges for achieving the high-performance devices.
