Abstract
Male cases diagnosed COVID-19 with more complications and higher mortality compared with females, and the overall consequences of male sex hormones and semen parameters deterioration were observed in COVID-19 patients, whereas the involvement and mechanism for spermatogenic cell remains unclear. The study was aimed to investigate the infection mode of S protein (D614G) pseudovirus (pseu-S-D614G) to spermatogenic cells, as well as the influence on cell growth. Both mouse spermatogonia (GC-1 cell, immortalized spermatogonia) and spermatocyte (GC-2 cell, immortalized spermatocytes) were used to detect the infection of pseu-S-D614G of SARS-CoV-2, and further explored the effect of SARS-CoV-2-spike protein (S-protein) and SARS-CoV-2-spike protein (omicron) (O-protein) on GC-1 cell apoptosis and proliferation. The data showed that the pseu-S-D614G invaded into GC-1 cells through either human ACE2 (hACE2) or human CD147 (hCD147), whereas GC-2 cells were insensitive to viral infection. In addition, the apoptosis and proliferation suppression inflicted by S-protein and O-protein on GC-1 cells was through Bax-Caspase3 signaling rather than arresting cell cycle progression. These findings suggest that CD147, apart from ACE2, may be a potential receptor for SARS-CoV-2 infection in testicular tissues, and that the apoptotic effect was induced in spermatogonia cells by S-protein or O-protein, eventually resulted in the damage to male fertility.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019, which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), remains an ongoing global public health challenge. This disease causes damage not only to the respiratory system, affecting the normal physiological function of the lungs, but also to other vital organs, such as the heart and testicles. Existing studies have shown that co-expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 and transmembrane serine protease 2 is the main mechanism by which SARS-CoV-2 invades host cells. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2-expressing cells are widespread in the corpus cavernosum, reproductive tract and testis of men, which has raised concerns. Furthermore, abnormal sex hormone levels and decreased semen parameters were observed in coronavirus disease 2019 patients. This study comprehensively assessed the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the testis, semen parameters, sex hormone levels and erectile function, and discussed possible transmission routes during sexual intercourse and the effect of vaccination on male fertility.

Abstract
The new coronavirus pandemic resulted in millions of deaths in Brazil and around the world, and presented substantial challenges to society. The shortand long-term clinical manifestations tied to COVID-19 are still poorly understood, and may involve several organs and systems, including the male genital tract, which may lead to impaired fertility. The present study aimed to analyze, through an integrative literature review of articles available in databases, the effects of COVID-19 on parameters related to human semen quality. The analyzed studies reported significant decreases in sperm motility and morphology related to COVID-19. Reductions in concentration and volume were also observed. Inflammatory response is one of the leading mechanisms that may potentially explain the observed changes, although others may also be involved. More studies are needed to better understand the effects, modes of action, as well as other aspects involved in this complex phenomenon.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has raised concerns regarding its potential impact on male reproductive health. However, the impact of COVID-19 on sperm quality remains uncertain. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the short-term and relatively long-term effects of COVID-19 infection on sperm quality. METHODS A total of 85 males with fertility requirements, who underwent semen evaluation at Guilin People's Hospital between June 2022 and July 2023, were included in the study. Changes in semen parameters were analyzed across three specific timeframes: within 6 months before COVID-19 infection, within 3 months after COVID-19 infection, and 3-6 months after COVID-19 recovery. RESULTS The results revealed that the sperm concentration and total sperm number were significantly lower after infection compared to before, while in the recovery period, the sperm concentration, total sperm count, progressive motility, and normal morphology significantly increased. Comparing the three periods, the most significant difference was observed in sperm concentration, which exhibited a significant decrease after infection but returned to normal levels after recovery from COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest that COVID-19 may exert some impact on sperm quality, particularly evidenced by decreased sperm concentration post-infection. Fortunately, these effects on semen parameters appear to be temporary, with gradual restoration of semen parameters within 3-6 months after recovery. However, further research is needed to explore the underlying mechanisms and long-term implications of these observed changes in semen parameters.

Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION Is severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) present in semen samples from asymptomatic donors who have positive virus results from nasopharyngeal swabs? DESIGN Nasopharyngeal PCR was performed on 1943 sperm donors between January 2021 and March 2022. The result was positive for 140 donations, and the presence of SARS-CoV-2 could be studied in cryopreserved semen from 84 of these donors. This included 67 participants in whom the quality of fresh semen could be compared with the previous donation, the day of the PCR-positive nasopharyngeal sampling and the first subsequent donation. Semen donations were cryopreserved following total semen (n = 26) or ready-to-use (n = 58) protocols. The presence of SARS-CoV-2 in cryopreserved samples was determined by reverse transcription PCR. Semen quality (volume, concentration and progressive motility) was evaluated in accordance with World Health Organization 2010 recommendations. RESULTS SARS-CoV-2 virus was not detected in any cryopreserved total semen or ready-to-use samples. No significant differences in semen volume, concentration or progressive motility were observed between the last previous donation, the day of the positive PCR nasopharyngeal sampling and the first subsequent donation. CONCLUSIONS The lack of detection of SARS-CoV-2 in semen samples from asymptomatic individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 supports the safety of assisted human reproduction treatments using this type of sample.

Abstract
PURPOSE The coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic-caused by a new type of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-has posed severe impacts on public health worldwide and has resulted in a total of > 6 million deaths. Notably, male patients developed more complications and had mortality rates ~ 77% higher than those of female patients. The extensive expression of the SARS-CoV-2 receptor and related proteins in the male reproductive tract and the association of serum testosterone levels with viral entry and infection have brought attention to COVID-19's effects on male fertility. METHODS The peer-reviewed articles and reviews were obtained by searching for the keywords SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19, endocrine, spermatogenesis, epididymis, prostate, and vaccine in the databases of PubMed, Web of Science and Google Scholar from 2020-2022. RESULTS This review summarizes the effects of COVID-19 on the male reproductive system and investigates the impact of various types of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines on male reproductive health. We also present the underlying mechanisms by which SARS-CoV-2 affects male reproduction and discuss the potentially harmful effects of asymptomatic infections, as well as the long-term impact of COVID-19 on male reproductive health. CONCLUSION COVID-19 disrupted the HPG axis, which had negative impacts on spermatogenesis and the epididymis, albeit further investigations need to be performed. The development of vaccines against various SARS-CoV-2 variations is important to lower infection rates and long-term COVID risks.

Abstract
The respiratory system was primarily considered the only organ affected by Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). As the pandemic continues, there is an increasing concern from the scientific community about the future effects of the virus on male and female reproductive organs, infertility, and, most significantly, its impact on the future generation. The general presumption is that if the primary clinical symptoms of COVID-19 are not controlled, we will face several challenges, including compromised infertility, infection-exposed cryopreserved germ cells or embryos, and health complications in future generations, likely connected to the COVID-19 infections of parents and ancestors. In this review article, we dedicatedly studied severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virology, its receptors, and the effect of the virus to induce the activation of inflammasome as the main arm of the innate immune response. Among inflammasomes, nucleotide oligomerization domain-like receptor protein, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome pathway activation is partly responsible for the inflicted damages in both COVID-19 infection and some reproductive disorders, so the main focus of the discussion is on NLRP3 inflammasome in the pathogenesis of COVID-19 infection alongside in the reproductive biology. In addition, the potential effects of the virus on male and female gonad functions were discussed, and we further explored the potential natural and pharmacological therapeutic approaches for comorbidity via NLRP3 inflammasome neutralization to develop a hypothesis for averting the long-term repercussions of COVID-19. Since activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway contributes to the damage caused by COVID-19 infection and some reproductive disorders, NLRP3 inflammasome inhibitors have a great potential to be considered candidates for alleviating the pathological effects of the COVID-19 infection on the germ cells and reproductive tissues. This would impede the subsequent massive wave of infertility that may threaten the patients.

Abstract
Post-Acute COVID-19 syndrome (PACS) is considered to be one of the least understood post-infectious syndromes. We report a case of a 21-year-old female who had a history of SARS-CoV-2 infection and presented with a right atrioventricular thrombus associated with pulmonary embolism and thrombocytopenia. At the time of admission, she was not vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, and her serological tests for IgG and IgM antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 were positive. The size of the thrombus measured approximately 6 × 8 × 4 cm, which also led to tricuspid valve insufficiency due to mechanical dilatation of the valve’s ring. The right atrioventricular thrombus also extended up to the inferior vena cava, leading to mild congestive hepatomegaly. Moreover, during thrombectomy, the mass of the thrombus was attached to the interseptal right atrial wall. The histopathological assessment of the core mass revealed that it was a right atrial myxoma hidden inside that large thrombus. We suspect that the formation and propagation of the thrombus to that size occurs as a part of Post-Acute COVID-19 syndrome (PACS). This study reviews and discusses coronavirus disease 2019-relate to thrombus formation inside cardiac chambers in case of a cardiac tumor, like myxoma in the setting of post-acute phase COVID-19 syndrome.

Abstract
Over 300 million patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported worldwide since the outbreak of the pandemic in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. COVID-19 is induced by the acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The effect of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the male reproductive system is unclear. The aim of this review is to assess the effect of SARS-CoV-2 infection on male fertility and the impact of possible mediators, such as metabolic, oxidative and psychological stress. SARS-CoV-2 infection aggravates metabolic stress and directly or indirectly affects male fertility by reducing seminal health. In addition, SARS-CoV-2 infection leads to excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and increased psychological distress. These data suggest that SARS-CoV-2 infection reduces male fertility, possibly by means of metabolic, oxidative and psychological stress. Therefore, among other consequences, the possibility of COVID-19-induced male infertility should not be neglected.

Abstract
PURPOSE Apart from the global disease burden of acute COVID-19 disease, the health complications arising after recovery have been recognized as a long-COVID or post-COVID-19 syndrome. Evidences of long-COVID symptoms involving various organ systems are rapidly growing in literature. The objective was to perform a rapid review and evidence mapping of systemic complications and symptoms of long-COVID and underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. METHODS Publications reporting clinical trials, observational cohort studies, case-control studies, case-series, meta-analysis, and systematic reviews, focusing on the squeal of the disease, consequences of COVID-19 treatment/hospitalization, long-COVID, chronic COVID syndrome, and post acute COVID-19 were reviewed in detail for the narrative synthesis of frequency, duration, risk factors, and pathophysiology. RESULTS The review highlights that pulmonary, neuro-psychological, and cardiovascular complications are major findings in most epidemiological studies. However, dysfunctional gastrointestinal, endocrine, and metabolic health are recent findings for which underlying pathophysiological mechanisms are poorly understood. Analysis of the clinical trial landscape suggests that more than 50% of the industry-sponsored trials are focused on pulmonary symptoms. In contrast to the epidemiological trends and academic trials, cardiovascular complications are not a focus of industry-sponsored trials, suggestive of the gaps in the research efforts. CONCLUSION The gap in epidemiological trends and academic trials, particularly concerning cardiovascular complications not being a focus of industry-sponsored trials is suggestive of the gaps in research efforts and longer follow-up durations would help identify other long-COVID-related health issues such as reproductive health and fertility.
