Abstract
The synthesis of enantioenriched α-substituted 1,3-dicarbonyls remains a contemporary challenge in synthesis due to their tendency to undergo racemization via keto-enol tautomerization. Herein, we report a method to access enantioenriched β-ketoamides by a chiral sulfinimine-mediated [3,3]-sigmatropic sulfonium rearrangement. The transformation displays good chirality transfer, as well as excellent chemoselectivity and functional group tolerance. Diastereoselective reduction of the ketone moiety, also achievable in one-pot fashion, affords enantioenriched β-hydroxyamides.

Abstract
Curcumin is a medicinal agent that exhibits anti-cancer and anti-Alzheimer's disease properties. It has a keto-enol moiety that gives rise to many of its chemical properties including metal complexation and acid-base equilibria. A previous study has shown that keto-enol tautomerization at this moiety is implicated in the anti-Alzheimer's disease effect of curcumin, highlighting the importance of this process. In this study, tautomerization of curcumin in methanol, acetone and acetonitrile was investigated using time-resolved 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Curcumin undergoes hydrogen-deuterium exchange with the solvents and the proton resonance peak corresponding to the hydrogen at the α-carbon position (Cα) decays as a function of time, signifying deuteration at this position. Because tautomerization is the rate limiting step in the deuteration of curcumin at the Cα position, the rate of tautomerization is inferred from the rate of deuteration. The rate constant of tautomerization of curcumin shows a temperature dependence and analysis using the Arrhenius equation revealed activation energies (Ea) of tautomerization of (80.1 ± 5.9), (64.1 ± 1.0) and (68.3 ± 5.5) kJ mol-1 in methanol, D2O/acetone and D2O/acetonitrile, respectively. Insight into the role of water in tautomerization of curcumin was further offered by density functional theory studies. The transition state of tautomerization was optimized in the presence of water molecules. The results show a hydrogen-bonded solvent bridge between the diketo moiety and Cα of curcumin. The Ea of tautomerization of curcumin shows a strong dependence on the number of water molecules in the solvent bridge, indicating the critical role played by the solvent bridge in catalyzing tautomerization of curcumin.

Abstract
The new 3-monosubstituted acetylacetone ligands, 3-(phenyl(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methyl)pentane-2,4-dione (HLacPz) and 3-((3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)(phenyl)methyl)pentane-2,4-dione (HLacPzMe), were synthesized and used as supporting ligands for new copper(II) and copper(I) phosphane complexes of the general formulae [Cu(HLacX)2(LacX)2] and [Cu(PPh3)2(HLacX)]PF6 (X = Pz (pyrazole) or PzMe (3,5-dimethylpyrazole)), respectively. In the syntheses of the Cu(I) complexes, the triphenylphosphine coligand (PPh3) was used to stabilize copper in the +1 oxidation state, avoiding oxidation to Cu(II). All compounds were characterized by CHN analysis, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). The ligands HLacPz (1) and HLacPzMe (2) and the copper complex [Cu(PPh3)2(HLacPz)]PF6 (3) were also characterized by X-ray crystallography. The reactivity of these new compounds was investigated and the new compounds 4-phenyl-4-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)butan-2-one (7) and 4-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-4-phenylbutan-2-one (8) were obtained in basic conditions via the retro-Claisen reaction of related 3-monosubstituted acetylacetone, providing efficient access to synthetically useful ketone compounds. Compound 8 was also characterized by X-ray crystallography.

Abstract
The synthesis of acylpyrazolone salts and their complexes of main group elements, transition metals, lanthanides, and actinides are described and characterized inter alia by means of single-crystal X-ray crystallography, NMR, and IR spectroscopies. The complexes consist of two, three, or four acylprazolone ligands bound to the metal atom, resulting in a structurally diverse set of coordination complexes with (distorted) octahedral, pentagonal-bipyramidal, or antiprismatic arrangements. Several complexes proved to be polymeric in the solid state including heterobimetallic sodium/lanthanide coordination polymers. A selection of the polymeric compounds was analyzed via TG/DTA measurements to establish their stability. The ligands, in turn, were readily synthesized in good yields from commercially available hydrazine hydrochloride salts. These findings demonstrate that acylpyrazolone ligands can form complexes with metals of varying ionic radii, highlighted by their utility in other areas such as analytical and metal organic framework chemistry.

Abstract
The photolysis of acetylacetone (AcAc) has been studied using velocity-map ion imaging with pulsed nanosecond lasers. The enolone tautomer of AcAc (CH3C(O)CH═C(OH)CH3) was excited in the strong UV absorption band by UV pulses at 280 nm, preparing the S2(ππ*) state, and products were probed after a short time delay by single-photon VUV ionization at 118.2 nm. Two-color UV + VUV time-of-flight mass spectra show enhancement of fragments at m/z = 15, 42, 43, 58, and 85 at the lowest UV pulse energies and depletion of the parent ion at m/z = 100. Ion images of the five major fragments are all isotropic, indicating dissociation lifetimes that are long on the timescale of molecular rotation but shorter than the laser pulse duration (<6 ns). The m/z = 15 and 85 fragments have identical momentum distributions with moderate translational energy release, suggesting that they are formed as a neutral product pair and likely via a Norrish type I dissociation of the enolone to form CH3 + C(O)CH═C(OH)CH3 over a barrier on a triplet surface. The m/z = 43 fragment may be tentatively assigned to the alternative Norrish type I pathway that produces CH3CO + CH2C(O)CH3 on S0 following phototautomerization to the diketone, although alternative mechanisms involving dissociative ionization of a larger primary photoproduct cannot be conclusively ruled out. The m/z = 42 and 58 fragments are not momentum-matched and consequently are not formed as a neutral pair via a unimolecular dissociation pathway on S0. They also likely originate from the dissociative ionization of primary photofragments. RRKM calculations suggest that unimolecular dissociation pathways that lead to molecular products on S0 are generally slow, implying an upper-limit lifetime of <46 ns after excitation at 280 nm. Time-dependent measurements suggest that the observed photofragments likely do not arise from dissociative ionization of energized AcAc S0*.

Abstract
The application of solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) in all-solid-state(ASS) batteries is hindered by lower Li+ -conductivity and narrower electrochemical window. Here, three families of ester-based F-modified SPEs of poly-carbonate (PCE), poly-oxalate (POE) and poly-malonate (PME) were investigated. The Li+ -conductivity of these SPEs prepared from pentanediol are all higher than the counterparts made of butanediol, owing to the enhanced asymmetry and flexibility. Because of stronger chelating coordination with Li+ , the Li+ -conductivity of PME and POE is around 10 and 5 times of PCE. The trifluoroacetyl-units are observed more effective than -O-CH2 -CF2 -CF2 -CH2 -O- during the in situ passivation of Li-metal. Using trifluoroacetyl terminated POE and PCE as SPE, the interfaces with Li-metal and high-voltage-cathode are stabilized simultaneously, endowing stable cycling of ASS Li/LiNi0.6 Co0.2 Mn0.2 O2 (NCM622) cells. Owing to an enol isomerization of malonate, the cycling stability of Li/PME/NCM622 is deteriorated, which is recovered with the introduce of dimethyl-group in malonate and the suppression of enol isomerization. The coordinating capability with Li+ , molecular asymmetry and existing modes of elemental F, are all critical for the molecular design of SPEs.

Abstract
Intersystem crossings between singlet and triplet states represent a crucial relaxation pathway in photochemical processes. Herein, we probe the intersystem crossing in hexafluoro-acetylacetone with ultrafast X-ray transient absorption spectroscopy at the carbon K-edge. We observe the excited state dynamics following excitation with 266 nm UV light to the 1ππ* (S2) state with element and site-specificity using a broadband soft X-ray pulse produced by high harmonic generation. These results are compared to X-ray spectra computed from orbital optimized density functional theory methods. It is found that the electron-withdrawing fluorine atoms decongest the X-ray absorption spectrum by enhancing separation between features originating from different carbon atoms. This facilitates the elucidation of structural and electronic dynamics at the chromophore. The evolution of the core-to-valence resonances at the carbon K-edge reveals an ultrafast population transfer between the 1nπ* (S1) and 3ππ* (T1) states on a 1.6 ± 0.4 ps time scale, which is similar to the 1.5 ps time scale earlier observed for acetylacetone [ J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2017, 139, 16576-16583, DOI: 10.1021/jacs.7b07532]. It therefore appears that terminal fluorination has little influence on the intersystem crossing rate of the acetylacetone chromophore. In addition, the significant role of hydrogen-bond opened and twisted rotational isomers is elucidated in the excited state dynamics by comparison of the experimental transient X-ray spectra with theory.

Abstract
AbstractThe transition metal-catalyzed hydrofunctionalization of alkenes offers an efficient solution for the rapid construction of complex functional molecules, and significant progress has been made during last decades. However, the hydrofunctionalization of internal alkenes remains a significant challenge due to low reactivity and the difficulties of controlling the regioselectivity. Here, we report the hydroarylation and hydroalkenylation of internal alkenes lacking a directing group with aryl and alkenyl boronic acids in the presence of a nickel catalyst, featuring a broad substrate scope and wide functional group tolerance under redox-neutral conditions. The key to achieving this reaction is the identification of a bulky 1-adamantyl β-diketone ligand, which is capable of overcoming the low reactivity of internal 1,2-disubstituted alkenes. Preliminary mechanistic studies unveiled that this reaction undergoes an Ar-Ni(II)-H initiated hydroarylation process, which is generated by the oxidative addition of alcoholic solvent with Ni(0) species and sequential transmetalation. In addition, the oxidative addition of the alcoholic solvent proves to be the turnover-limiting step.

Abstract
The novel zinc(II) µ-oxo-bridged-dimeric complex [Zn2(µ-O)2(BMIP)2] (BMIP = 1,3-bis(5-methoxy-1-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)propane-1,3-dione), 1, was synthetized and fully characterized. The spectral data indicate a zincoxane molecular structure, with the BMIP ligand coordinating in its neutral form via its oxygen atoms. Structural changes in 1 in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) were evidenced by means of spectroscopic techniques including infrared absorption and nuclear magnetic resonance, showing DMSO entrance in the coordination sphere of the metal ion. The resulting complex [Zn2(µ-O)2(BMIP)2(DMSO)], 2, readily reacts in the presence of N-methyl-imidazole (NMI), a liquid-phase nucleoside mimic, to form [Zn2(µ-O)2(BMIP)2(NMI)], 3, through DMSO displacement. The three complexes show high thermal stability, demonstrating that 1 has high affinity for hard nucleophiles. Finally, with the aim of probing the suitability of this system as model scaffold for new potential anticancer metallodrugs, the interactions of 1 with calf thymus DNA were investigated in vitro in pseudo-physiological environment through UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence emission spectroscopy, as well as time-resolved fluorescence studies. The latter analyses revealed that [Zn2(µ-O)2(BMIP)2(DMSO)] binds to DNA with high affinity upon DMSO displacement, opening new perspectives for the development of optimized drug substances.

Abstract
Microspheres containing radioactive 166holmium-acetylacetonate are employed in emerging radionuclide therapies for the treatment of malignancies. At the molecular level, details on the coordination geometries of the Ho complexes are however elusive. Infrared ion spectroscopy (IRIS) was used to characterize several 165Ho-acetylacetonate complexes derived from non-radioactive microspheres. The coordination geometry of four distinct ionic complexes were fully assigned by comparison of their measured IR spectra with spectra calculated at the density functional theory (DFT) level. The coordination of each acetylacetonate ligand is dependent on the presence of other ligands, revealing an asymmetric chelation motif in some of the complexes. A fifth, previously unknown constituent of the microspheres was identified as a coordination complex containing an acetic acid ligand. These results pave the way for IRIS-based identification of microsphere constituents upon neutron activation of the metal center.

Abstract
Polyketone compounds play an important role in organic chemistry as a prominent source of reactivity and functionality. Their chemical properties vary widely depending on the ketone sequence in carbon chains. Although vicinal and β-polyketones have been used for more than 150 years, the recent development of new ketone sequences composed of alternating 1,3- and 1,4-diketones has demonstrated the further potential of polyketones as structurally flexible molecular ropes capable of derivatization to π-conjugated chromophores and molecular assemblies. In this Feature Article, we review the synthetic strategies and reactivities of polyketones with respect to their ketone sequence. Furthermore, recent research on polyketones with hybrid ketone sequences is also discussed, focussing on their structural diversity in chemical transformations including intramolecular cyclization and stereoselective oxidation.

Abstract
The first steps in photochemical processes, such as photosynthesis or animal vision, involve changes in electronic and geometric structure on extremely short time scales. Time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy is a natural way to measure such changes, but has been hindered hitherto by limitations of available pulsed light sources in the vacuum-ultraviolet and soft X-ray spectral region, which have insufficient resolution in time and energy simultaneously. The unique combination of intensity, energy resolution, and femtosecond pulse duration of the FERMI-seeded free-electron laser can now provide exceptionally detailed information on photoexcitation–deexcitation and fragmentation in pump-probe experiments on the 50-femtosecond time scale. For the prototypical system acetylacetone we report here electron spectra measured as a function of time delay with enough spectral and time resolution to follow several photoexcited species through well-characterized individual steps, interpreted using state-of-the-art static and dynamics calculations. These results open the way for investigations of photochemical processes in unprecedented detail. The first steps in photochemical processes involve changes in electronic and geometric structure on extremely short timescales. Here, the authors report femtosecond dynamics in prototypical acetylacetone, by pump-probe photoexcitation-photoemission experiments and static and dynamics calculations.

Abstract
Nano-structure of a new 0D Pb(II) coordination supramolecular compound, [Pb4(8-Quin)6](ClO4)2(1), L=8-HQuin=8-hydroxyquinolin ligand has been synthesized by use of a sonochemical process and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and elemental analyses. The structure of compound 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The single crystal X-ray data of compound 1 implies that the Pb+2 ions are five coordinated. Each lead atom is coordinated to nitrogen and oxygen atoms of 8-hydroxyquinolin ligand. Topological analysis shows that the compound 1 is 1,2,3,4,4M12-1net. Nanoparticles of lead(II) oxide have been prepared by calcination of lead(II) coordination polymer at 500°C that were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and IR spectroscopy.

Abstract
Nanoparticles of two new 0D, lead(II) coordination supramolecular compounds, [Pb(L)2(I)2] (1) and [Pb(L)(L/)(H2O)]·3H2O (2), (L=1,10-phenanthroline monohydrate, L/=2,6-pyridinedicarboxlic acid), have been synthesized by a sonochemical process and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), FT-IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. The single crystal X-ray data of compounds show that the Pb ion is six coordinated in both 1 and 2. The thermal stability of compound 1 and 2 has been studied by thermal gravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA). The role of temperature, reaction time and ultrasound irradiation power on the size and morphology of the nano-structured compound obtained from 1 and 2, have been investigated. Results indicate that an increase of temperature and sonication power and a decrease in time reaction led to a decrease of particle size. Topological analysis shows that the compound 1 and 2 are new topology for net: 1,4M5-1 and nch, respectively.

Abstract
Two new potassium coordination supramolecular compounds (2D and 1D), [K(H3L)(H2L)(H2O)]n·H2O (1) and [K(H2L')(HL')(H2O)2]·H2O (2), (L=1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid, L'=2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid), have been synthesized under different experimental conditions. Micrometric crystals (bulk) or nano-sized materials have been obtained depending on using the branch tube method or sonochemical irradiation. All materials have been characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FT-IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Single crystal X-ray analyses on compounds 1 and 2 show that K+ ions are 3- and 7-coordinated, respectively. Additionally, H-bonds incorporate the layers and chains in 1 and 2 into 3D and 2D (along (0,0,1) direction) frameworks. Topological analysis shows that the compound 1 and 2 are 3,6-coordinated kgd and 2,4-coordinated 2,4C4 net. The thermal stability of compounds 1 and 2 in bulk and nano-size has been studied by thermal gravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA) and compared each other. The role of different parameters like temperature, reaction time and ultrasound irradiation power on the growth and morphology of the nano-structures are studied. Results suggest that an increase of temperature, sonication power and reduction of reaction time led to a particle size decrease.

Two new lead(II) mixed-ligand coordination polymers, [Pb(PNO)(SCN)]n (1) and [Pb(PNO)(N3)]n (2), (HPNO=picolinic acid N-oxide) were synthesized by a sonochemical method and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Compounds 1 and 2 were structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The thermal behavior of 1 and 2 were studied by thermal gravimetric analysis. Structural transformations of compounds 1 and 2 were evaluated through anion-replacement processes by mechanochemical method. Moreover, the effect of sonication conditions including time, concentrations of initial reagents and power of irradiation were evaluated on size and morphology of compounds 1 and 2.

Abstract
Heteroleptic complexes of zinc(II), copper(II), manganese(II), and cobalt(II) of the types [MLL'(H2O)2]·nH2O and [MLL']·nH2O have been synthesized using sodium N-methyl-N-phenyldithiocarbamate (L) and benzoylacetone (L'). The metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, electrical conductance, magnetic susceptibility, infrared (IR), and UV-visible spectroscopic studies. The electrical conductance measurements revealed the nonelectrolytic nature of the synthesized complexes. The results of the elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility measurements, and electronic spectra inferred that the Zn(II) complex adopted a four-coordinate geometry while the Co(II), Cu(II), and Mn(II) complexes assumed octahedral geometries. The IR spectra showed that the metal ions coordinated with the ligands via the S- and O-donor atoms. The geometry, electronic, and thermodynamic parameters of the complexes were obtained from density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The spin density distributions, relative strength of H-bonds, and thermodynamic parameters revealed that the order of stability of the metal complexes is Mn < Co < Cu > Zn. The agar diffusion methods were used to study the antimicrobial activity of the complexes against two Gram positive bacteria (S. aureus and S. pneumoniae), one Gram negative bacterium (E. coli), and two fungi organisms (A. niger and A. candida) and the complexes showed a broad spectrum of activities against the microbes.

Abstract
Nanostructures of the three-dimensional coordination polymers with the ligand 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-3,4-diaza-2,4-hexadiene (4-bpdh), [Pb(4-bpdh)(NO3)(μ-NCS)]n (1) and [Pb(4-bpdh)(μ-NCS)2]n (2), have been synthesized by a sonochemical process at different concentrations and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. The solid state structural transformations of nano-compounds 1, 2 by anion-replacement processes under mechanochemical reaction, have been verified by IR and PXRD measurements. The SEM images showed that morphology change occurs on nanostructures during solid state anion-replacements.

Abstract
Micro and nano-structures of a lead(II) coordination polymer, [Pb2(2-Me-8-Hq)2(MeOH)2]n (1), [2-Me-8-HqH=2-methyl-8-hydroxyquinoline], were synthesized by two sonochemical methods. These new micro and nano-structures were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Compound 1 was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and consists of primary dimeric unit of [Pb2(2-Me-8-Hq)2(MeOH)2]. Self assembly between the dimmeric units of [Pb2(2-Me-8-Hq)2(MeOH)2] from Pb-O bonds results in formation of a one-dimensional lead(II) coordination polymer. The Pb(II)-ion in compound 1 has PbO6N1 coordination sphere with a stereo-chemically 'active' electron lone pair on the metals. By a reversible solid-state structural transformation, we successfully prepared [Pb2(2-Me-8-Hq)2]n (2) by thermal desolvation of 1. Thermal stability of compound 1 was studied by thermo gravimetric and differential thermal analyses. In addition nano-structure of PbO was prepared from calcination process of compound 1 at 873 K.
