Abstract
Harnessing sunlight via photosensitizing molecules is key for novel optical applications and solar-to-chemical energy conversion. Exploiting abundant metals such as iron is attractive but becomes challenging due to typically fast nonradiative relaxation processes. In this work, we report on the luminescence and excited-state reactivity of the heteroleptic [FeIII(pzTp)(CN)3]- complex (pzTp = tetrakis(pyrazolyl)borate), which incorporates a σ-donating trispyrazolyl chelate ligand and three monodentate σ-donating and π-accepting cyanide ligands. Contrary to the nonemissive [Fe(CN)6]3-, a broad emission band centered at 600 nm at room temperature has been recorded for the heteroleptic analogue attributed to the radiative deactivation from a 2LMCT excited state with a luminescence quantum yield of 0.02% and a lifetime of 80 ps in chloroform at room temperature. Bimolecular reactivity of the 2LMCT excited state was successfully applied to different alcohol photo-oxidation, identifying a cyanide-H bonding as a key reaction intermediate. Finally, this research demonstrated the exciting potential of [Fe(pzTp)(CN)3]- as a photo-oxidant, paving the way for further exploration and development of emissive Fe-based photosensitizers competent for photochemical transformations.

Abstract
This study presents a novel class of pseudohomogeneous catalysts (PHC) based on carbon quantum dots functionalized with terpyridine ligands (CQDs-Tpy) to immobilize and stabilize palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs). Extensive characterization techniques clearly confirmed the successful stabilization of Pd NPs on CQDs-Tpy. The effectiveness of the catalyst was demonstrated in the selective aerobic oxidation of primary and secondary of benzylic alcohols to aldehydes in the absence of additives and phase transfer catalyst (PTC). Remarkably, the reactions predominantly yielded aldehydes without further oxidation to carboxylic acids. By employing low catalyst loadings (0.13 mol%), high conversions (up to 89%) and excellent selectivity (> 99%) of the aldehyde derivatives were achieved. Moreover, the CQDs-Tpy/Pd NPs catalyst displayed suitable catalytic activity and recyclability, offering potential economic advantages. This promising approach opens up new opportunities in the field of catalysis for designing subnanometric metal-based PHCs.

Abstract
The introduction of iron ionic sites by metal exchange of defective homometallic nickel pyrazolate frameworks generates non-precious, Earth-abundant, first-row heterometallic Fe/Ni-pyrazolate frameworks. The Fe incorporation at the Ni nodes of the framework allows to control the hydrogen peroxide activation, minimizing its decomposition and O2 liberation, occurring at the homometallic Ni nodes. The generation of Fe-OH reactive oxygen species at the heterometallic Fe/Ni nodes is demonstrated by the higher activity in the proof-of-concept oxidation of 1-phenylethanol to acetophenone in an aqueous medium.

Abstract
Horse Liver Alcohol Dehydrogenase (HLADH) has been immobilized on calcium-alginate beads and used for both oxidation and reduction reactions. To avoid swelling of the beads and their subsequent breakage, calcium ions were added to both reaction and storage solutions, allowing the beads to maintain the initial structural features. The techniques used for this purpose revealed that 2 mM Ca2+ is the optimal concentration, which does not significantly change the weight of the beads, the amount of water in them, and their external and internal structure. The optimized experimental procedure has been used to verify the properties of the enzyme in terms of reusability, storage, and thermal stability. The addition of calcium ions allows the enzyme to retain more than 80 % of its initial activity for fourteen cycles and approximately 50 % at the twentieth cycle. Moreover, when the biocatalyst has been stored in a buffer solution containing 2 mM Ca2+ , the retention of enzyme activity after 30 days was 100 %, compared to that measured before incubation. The encapsulated enzyme exhibits greater thermal stability than free HLADH up to at least 60 °C, preventing dimer dissociation into the two subunits.

Abstract
Contamination of soil and natural water bodies driven by increased organic pollutants remains a universal concern. Naturally, organic pollutants contain carcinogenic and toxic properties threatening all known life forms. The conventional physical and chemical methods employed to remove these organic pollutants ironically produce toxic and non-ecofriendly end-products. Whereas microbial-based degradation of organic pollutants provides an edge, they are usually cost-effective and take an eco-friendly approach towards remediation. Bacterial species, including Pseudomonas, Comamonas, Burkholderia, and Xanthomonas, have the unique genetic makeup to metabolically degrade toxic pollutants, conferring their survival in toxic environments. Several catabolic genes, such as alkB, xylE, catA, and nahAc, that encode enzymes and allow bacteria to degrade organic pollutants have been identified, characterized, and even engineered for better efficacy. Aerobic and anaerobic processes are followed by bacteria to metabolize aliphatic saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons such as alkanes, cycloalkanes, aldehydes, and ethers. Bacteria use a variety of degrading pathways, including catechol, protocatechuate, gentisate, benzoate, and biphenyl, to remove aromatic organic contaminants such as polychlorinated biphenyls, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and pesticides from the environment. A better understanding of the principle, mechanisms, and genetics would be beneficial for improving the metabolic efficacy of bacteria to such ends. With a focus on comprehending the mechanisms involved in various catabolic pathways and the genetics of the biotransformation of these xenobiotic compounds, the present review offers insight into the various sources and types of known organic pollutants and their toxic effects on health and the environment.

Abstract
The present study reports on the photocatalytic oxidation of butanols to butanal/butanone using thin film form of facet-dependent nano-Pd supported on commercial TiO2 under one-sun condition and demonstrates the generic nature. Pd-nanocube (PdNC (100)), Pd-truncated octahedron (PdTO (100) and (111)), polycrystalline (PdPC ), and their counterparts with half-a-monolayer Pt-coated on Pd (0.5θPt -Pd)) have been used as co-catalyst. A potentially scalable thin film form of Pd/TiO2 photocatalyst, prepared by drop-casting method, has been employed to study oxidation of n-butanol, 2-butanol, and iso-butanol to corresponding aldehyde/ketone. 100% selectivity is demonstrated to respective aldehyde/ketone with any catalyst used in the present study with varying degree of butanols conversion by NMR. 0.5θPt -PdTO /TiO2 shows the highest conversion of 2-butanol to butanone (13.6% in 4 h). Continuous 10 h of reaction with the most active 0.5θPt -PdTO /P25 catalyst demonstrates 31% conversion of 2-butanol to butanone, and catalyst recyclability has been demonstrated. The present protocol can be scalable to large scales to maximize the conversion in direct sunlight. Due to its generic nature, the current method can also be applied to many other alcohols and substrate molecules.

Abstract
K2 CO3 /Glycerin as a deep eutectic solvent (DES) was anchored covalently onto functionalized magnetic nanoparticles and showed a significant activity towards the oxidation of various alcohols under mild conditions with a short reaction time and good to high yield. A combination of the magnetic nanoparticles and deep eutectic solvent offers a novel, green, reusable catalyst with easy separation. Also, the catalyst structure was well characterized using techniques such as FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD, SEM, TGA, BET, VSM, TEM, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS).

Abstract
The urea oxidation reaction (UOR) is considered to be a replacement of the sluggish anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in overall water-splitting. A three-dimensional (3D) nickel-containing metal-organic framework {[NiII 2(pdaa)(OH)2(H2O)] n (MOF 1) (where, H2pdaa = 1,4-phenylene diacetic acid) was investigated as a robust and highly efficient electrocatalyst for the UOR. MOF 1 comprised 1D nickel(ii) chains crosslinked through Ni4O4 cubane units to form a 3D extended network. Dangling Ni⋯OH- groups were exposed in the MOF 1 structure, and could act as active catalytic centers for the UOR. MOF 1 required a very small onset potential of 1.18 V for urea oxidation in KOH (1 M) and urea (0.33 M) and had a low Tafel slope of 38.8 mV dec-1 (in contrast to 1.84 V for the oxygen evolution reaction). The overpotential required to attain a catalytic current density of 10 mA cm-2 was 1.24 V, which is much lower than that for many materials. Controlled potential electrolysis, powder X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy affirmed the physicochemical integrity of the catalyst over a 17 h test reaction. This work not only addresses the problem of urea contamination, it also helps to utilize it in an energy-conversion process.

Abstract
Alcohol oxidation plays an essential contribution to the chemical industry. Innovative green techniques, such as ultrasound irradiation, could be economically remarkable by enhancing reaction yield. In this research, the design and improvement of a new green ultrasound-assisted oxidation of alcohols procedure using CrO3 supported by Al2O3 with the addition of a small amount of t- butanol were reported. The oxidation of alcohols was also done without ultrasound irradiation to study the sonochemical effect. Based on FTIR and GC/MS analyses, the alcohols were effectively oxidized into their corresponding aldehydes in satisfactory yields (74–93%). The yield of the obtained aldehydes was increased by applying the ultrasonic irradiation technique, and no over-oxidation products were found. Overall, the innovative procedure offers several benefits, such as being easy to use, environmentally friendly, capable of improving yields, and having shorter oxidation times.

Abstract
Carbon dioxide is a renewable, inexhaustible, and cheap alternative to fossil resources for the production of fine chemicals and plastics. It can notably be converted into exovinylene cyclic carbonates, unique synthons gaining momentum for the preparation of an impressive range of important organic molecules and functional polymers, in reactions proceeding with 100 % atom economy under mild operating conditions in most cases. This Review summarizes the recent advances in their synthesis with particular attention on describing the catalysts needed for their preparation and discussing the unique reactivity of these CO2 -based heterocycles for the construction of diverse organic building blocks and (functional) polymers. We also discuss the challenges and the future perspectives in the field.

Abstract
IBX is an oxidation reagent that has surged into prominence in the last two decades. It is cost-effective, environmentally benign and readily prepared from o-iodobenzoic acid. However, its insolubility in common organic solvents and explosive attributes upon impact and heating are debilitating disadvantages. Development of modified IBXs,i.e., mIBXs, that exhibit improved solubility and enhanced reactivity, and obviate explosive attributes by a judicious manipulation of the structure of IBX has been an incessant endeavor. In this account, common organic solvent-soluble modified o-iodoxybenzoic acids (mIBXs) developed in our research group are collated with discussion of rationale underlying the design principles. Steric build-up around the iodoxolone moiety that is responsible for strong intermolecular interactions within the crystal lattice of IBX constitutes the key consideration in the design and development of modified λ5-iodanes that are reactive and sparingly soluble in common organic solvents. In situ generation of mIBXs from precursor iodo-acids in the presence of Oxone® permits employment of the latter as organocatalysts for facile oxidative transformations. Reactive mIBXs generated in situ from precursor modified iodoacids (mIAs, I(I)) in the presence of Oxone® may constitute unrivaled prospects for cost-effective oxidations. Applications of mIBXs, generated in situ or otherwise, for efficient oxidations are consolidated.

Abstract
A novel base-metal multifunctional nanomagnetic catalyst is prepared by the immobilization of tungstate anions onto γ-Fe2O3 supported with imidazolium moieties. The (γ-Fe2O3-Im-Py)2WO4 was fully characterized using FT-IR, XPS, TEM, FESEM, ICP, TGA, VSM and XRD and used as a multifunctional heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of 2-amino-3-cyano-4H-chromenes via a multicomponent tandem oxidation process starting from alcohols under solvent-free conditions. During this process, tungstate catalyzes the oxidation of a wide range of alcohols in the presence of TBHP as a clean source. The in-situ formed aldehydes are condensed with malononitrile and β-dicarbonyl compounds/naphthols/4-hydroxycumarin through promotion by pyridine and imidazolium moieties of the catalyst. By this method, a variety of 2-amino-3-cyano-4H-chromenes are generated in good to high yields from alcohols as inexpensive and easily available starting materials. The catalyst is recovered easily by the aid of an external magnetic field and reused in five successive runs with insignificant decreasing activity.

Abstract
Microwave-assisted organic synthesis has been widely studied and deliberated, opening up some controversial issues as well. Nowadays, microwave chemistry is a mature technology that has been well demonstrated in many cases with numerous advantages in terms of the reaction rate and yield. The strategies toward scaling up find an ally in continuous-flow reactor technology comparing dielectric and conductive heating.

Abstract
We have reported an aerobic oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to respective aldehydes and ketones using a bipyridyl-cinchona alkaloid based palladium catalytic system (PdAc-5) using oxygen at moderate pressure. The PdAc-5 catalyst was analysed using SEM, EDAX, and XPS analysis. The above catalytic system is used in experiments for different oxidation systems which include different solvents, additives, and bases which are cheap, robust, non-toxic, and commercially available on the industrial bench. The obtained products are quite appreciable in both yield and selectivity (70-85%). In addition, numerous important studies, such as comparisons with various commercial catalysts, solvent systems, mixture of solvents, and catalyst mole%, were conducted using PdAc-5. The synthetic strategy of oxidation of alcohol into carbonyl compounds was well established and all the products were analysed using 1H NMR, 13CNMR and GC-mass analyses.

The Effect of Alcohol on Palladium Nanoparticles in i-Pd(OAc)2(TPPTS)2 for Aerobic Oxidation of Benzyl Alcohol. METALS 2021. Abstract
In the heterogeneous catalyst i-Pd(OAc)2(TPPTS)2, Pd(II) was reduced to Pd(0) by using different alcohol solvents, and the catalyst’s activity was studied in the aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohol. We studied the effects of the impregnation time in ethanol as a solvent and the use of various alcoholic solvents on the size of palladium nanoparticles. We found that the reduction of palladium by the various alcohols yielded palladium nanoparticles that were active in the aerobic oxidation of benzyl alcohol. As determined by DLS, TEM, and zeta potential analyses, both the impregnation time in ethanol and the type of alcohol used were observed to affect nanoparticle formation, particle size distribution, and agglomeration, as well as the conversion rate. The palladium nanoparticles’ hydrodynamic diameter sizes obtained during the 24 h of impregnation time were in the range of 10–200 nm. However, following 24 h of impregnation in ethanol the nanoparticles tended to form aggregates. The conversion rates of all the primary alcohols were similar, while for secondary alcohol, in which the hydrogen of the hydroxyl is less acidic and there is steric hindrance, the conversion was the lowest. Performing the oxidation using the solvent 1-propanol yielded smaller nanoparticles with narrower distributions in comparison to the reaction that was observed when using the ethanol solvent. On the other hand, the relatively high particle size distribution in 1-hexanol yielded agglomerates.

Abstract
![]()
Rhodium
and iridium diolefin catalysts for the acceptorless and
base-free dehydrogenation of secondary alcohols have been prepared,
and their degradation has been investigated, during the study of the
reactivity of the dimers [M(μ-Cl)(η4-C8H12)]2 (M = Rh (1), Ir
(2)) and [M(μ-OH)(η4-C8H12)]2 (M = Rh (3), Ir (4)) with 1,3-bis(6′-methyl-2′-pyridylimino)isoindoline
(HBMePHI). Complex 1 reacts with HBMePHI, in dichloromethane,
to afford equilibrium mixtures of 1, the mononuclear
derivative RhCl(η4-C8H12){κ1-Npy-(HBMePHI)} (5), and the binuclear species [RhCl(η4-C8H12)]2{μ-Npy,Npy-(HBMePHI)} (6). Under
the same conditions, complex 2 affords the iridium counterparts
IrCl(η4-C8H12){κ1-Npy-(HBMePHI)} (7) and [IrCl(η4-C8H12)]2{μ-Npy,Npy-(HBMePHI)} (8). In contrast to chloride,
one of the hydroxide groups of 3 and 4 promotes
the deprotonation of HBMePHI to give [M(η4-C8H12)]2(μ-OH){μ-Npy,Niso-(BMePHI)} (M = Rh
(9), Ir (10)), which are efficient precatalysts
for the acceptorless and base-free dehydrogenation of secondary alcohols.
In the presence of KOtBu, the [BMePHI]− ligand undergoes three different degradations: alcoholysis
of an exocyclic isoindoline-N double bond, alcoholysis of a pyridyl-N
bond, and opening of the five-membered ring of the isoindoline core.

Abstract
The search for selective heterogeneous catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of alcohols to ketones and aldehydes has drawn much attention in the last decade. To that end, different palladium-based catalysts have been proposed that use various organic and inorganic supports. In addition, supports that originate from a biological and renewable source that is also nontoxic and biodegradable were found to be superior. We heterogenized palladium chloride or acetate complexes with triphenylphosphine trisulfonate on iota-carrageenan xerogel by simple mixing of the complex and the polysaccharide in water. The resulting polysaccharide-catalyst mixture then underwent deep freeze and lyophilization, after which the catalyst was characterized by TEM, XPS and SEM-EDS and tested in aerobic oxidation. The new heterogeneous catalysts were successfully used for the first time in the aerobic oxidation of benzylic alcohols. Moreover, they were easily removed from the reaction mixture and recycled, yielding an increase in activity with each subsequent reuse. As determined by TEM and XPS, the reduction in palladium and the formation of nanoparticles during the reaction in ethanol yielded more active species and, therefore, higher conversion rates. A SEM-EDS analysis indicated that the palladium was thoroughly dispersed in the xerogel catalysts. Moreover, the xerogel catalyst was observed to undergo a structural change during the reaction. To conclude, the new heterogeneous catalyst was prepared by a simple and straightforward method that used a non-toxic, renewable and biodegradable support to yield an active, selective and recyclable heterogeneous system.

Abstract
A new air-stable catalyst for the oxidative dehydrogenation of benzylic alcohols under ambient conditions has been developed. The synthesis and characterization of this compound and the related monomeric and dimeric V(IV)- and V(V)-pinF (pinF = perfluoropinacolate) complexes are reported herein. Monomeric V(IV) complex (Me4N)2[V(O)(pinF)2] (1) and dimeric (μ-O)2-bridged V(V) complex (Me4N)2[V2(O)2(μ-O)2(pinF)2] (3a) are prepared in water under ambient conditions. Monomeric V(V) complex (Me4N)[V(O)(pinF)2] (2) may be generated via chemical oxidation of 1 under an inert atmosphere, but dimerizes to 3a upon exposure to air. Complexes 1 and 2 display a perfectly reversible VIV/V couple at 20 mV (vs Ag/AgNO3), whereas a quasi-reversible VIV/V couple at -865 mV is found for 3a. Stoichiometric reactions of 3a with both fluorenol and TEMPOH result in the formation of (Me4N)2[V2(O)2(μ-OH)2(pinF)2] (4a), which contains two V(IV) centers that display antiferromagnetic coupling. In order to structurally characterize the dinuclear anion of 4a, {K(18C6)}+ countercations were employed, which formed stabilizing K···O interactions between the counterion and each terminal oxo moiety and H-bonding between the oxygen atoms of the crown ether and μ-OH bridges of the dimer, resulting in {K(18C6)}2[V2(O)2(μ-OH)2(pinF)2] (4b). The formal storage of H2 in 4a is reversible and proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) from crystals of 4a regenerates 3a upon exposure to air over the course of several days. Furthermore, the reaction of 3a (2%) under ambient conditions with excess fluorenol, cinnamyl alcohol, or benzyl alcohol resulted in the selective formation of fluorenone (82% conversion), cinnamaldehyde (40%), or benzaldehyde (7%), respectively, reproducing oxidative alcohol dehydrogenation (OAD) chemistry known for VOx surfaces and demonstrating, in air, the thermodynamically challenging selective oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes/ketones.

Abstract
For the first time, herein is reported the use of a magnetic core-shell support for a C-scorpionate metallic complex. The prepared hybrid material, that consists on the C-scorpionate iron(II) complex [FeCl2{κ3-HC(pz)3}] (pz, pyrazolyl) immobilized at magnetic core-shell particles (Fe3O4/TiO2), was tested as catalyst for the oxidation of secondary alcohols using the model substrate 1-phenylethanol. Moreover, the application of alternative energy sources (e.g., ultrasounds, microwaves, mechanical or thermal) for the peroxidative alcohol oxidation using the magnetic heterogenized iron(II) scorpionate led to different/unusual outcomes that are presented and discussed.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the catalytic activity of hybrid materials of iron supported on hierarchical zeolites in the oxidation reaction of 1-phenylethanol to acetophenone. A greener approach was considered for the preparation of the catalyst and performance of the oxidation reaction. Hierarchical BEA zeolite samples were obtained from an alkaline and a subsequent acid treatment. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nitrogen adsorption at −196 °C. An iron salt was incorporated onto the hierarchical zeolites by mechanochemical grinding and the catalytic performance of the prepared materials was evaluated towards the microwave assisted oxidation reaction of 1-phenylethanol. The catalyst obtained by Fe immobilization on sample modified by 0.2 M NaOH followed by acid treatment (Fe@BEA0.2AT) is the most promising material with 35% yield and 56% selectivity to acetophenone, allowing five reuse cycles without significant loss of activity and selectivity.

Abstract
Mononuclear metal-peroxo species are invoked as the key intermediates in metalloenzymatic or synthetic catalysis. However, either transience or sluggishness reactivity of synthetic analogs of metal-peroxo species impedes our understanding of oxygen activation mechanism. Herein, we designed and characterized a dioxygen-derived mononuclear osmium-peroxo complex, in which the peroxo ligand is stabilized by internally aromatic metallacycle. We demonstrate that the osmium-peroxo species shows catalytic activity toward promoterless alcohol dehydrogenations. Furthermore, computational studies provide a new mechanism for the osmium-peroxo-mediated alcohol oxidation, starting with the concerted double-hydrogen transfer and followed by the generation of osmium-oxo species. Interestingly, the internally aromatic metallacycle also plays a vital role in catalysis, which mediates the hydrogen transfer from osmium center to the distal oxygen atom of Os–OOH moiety, thus facilitating the Os–OOH→Os=O conversion. We expect that these insights will advance the development of aromatic metallacycle toward aerobic oxidation catalysis. A dioxygen-derived mononuclear osmium-peroxo complex was characterized The peroxo ligand is stabilized by internally aromatic metallacycle O2 activation involves the reversible aromatization-dearomatization A concerted double-hydrogen transfer mechanism for alcohol dehydrogenation

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of a set of iron(III) complexes, viz. the mononuclear [Fe(L)3] (1) and [NHEt3][Fe(L)2(Cl)2] (2), the dinuclear methoxido-bridged [Fe(L)2(μ-OMe)]2.DMF.1.5MeOH (3), and the heteronuclear Fe(III)/Na(I) two-dimensional coordination polymer [Fe(N3)(μ-L)2(μ-O)1/2(Na)(μ-H2O)1/2]n (4), are reported. Reactions of 3-amino-2-pyrazinecarboxylic acid (HL) with iron(III) chloride under different reaction conditions were studied, and the obtained compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Compound 1 is a neutral mononuclear complex, whereas 2 is mono-anionic with its charge being neutralized by triethylammonium cation. Compounds 3 and 4 display a di-methoxido-bridged dinuclear complex and a two-dimensional heterometallic Fe(III)/Na(I) polynuclear coordination polymer, respectively. Compounds 3 and 4 are the first examples of methoxido- and oxido-bridged iron(III) complexes, respectively, with 3-amino-2-pyrazinecarboxylate ligands. The electrochemical study of these compounds reveals a facile single-electron reversible Fe(III)-to-Fe(II) reduction at a positive potential of 0.08V vs. saturated calomel electrode (SCE), which is in line with their ability to act as efficient oxidants and heterogeneous catalysts for the solvent-free microwave-assisted peroxidative oxidation (with tert-butyl hydroperoxide) of cyclohexanol to cyclohexanone (almost quantitative yields after 1 h). Moreover, the catalysts are easily recovered and reused for five consecutive cycles, maintaining a high activity and selectivity.

Abstract
The 1D Cu(II) coordination polymers [Cu3(L1)(NO3)4(H2O)2]n (1) and [Cu2(H2L2)(NO3)(H2O)2]n(NO3)n (2) have been synthesized using the aroylhyrazone Schiff bases N'1,N'2-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)oxalohydrazide (H2L1) and N'1,N'3-bis(2-hydroxybenzylidene)malonohydrazide (H4L2), respectively. They have been characterized by elemental analysis, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), single crystal X-ray diffraction and variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements (for 2). The ligand (L1)2− coordinates in the iminol form in 1, whereas the amide coordination is observed for (H2L2)2− in 2. Either the ligand bridge or the nitrate bridge in 2 mediates weak antiferromagnetic coupling. The catalytic performance of 1 and 2 has been investigated toward the solvent-free microwave-assisted oxidation of a secondary alcohol (1-phenylethanol used as model substrate). At 120°C and in the presence of the nitroxyl radical 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperydil-1-oxyl (TEMPO), the complete conversion of 1-phenylethanol into acetophenone occurs with TOFs up to 1,200 h−1.
