Abstract
BACKGROUND The research about sustainable and alternative plant protein sources has accelerated with the increasing need for protein. Safflower meal has a potential to be used in protein production due to its high protein content. This research aimed to produce an alternative plant-based protein powder using safflower meal. Both extraction and spray-drying parameters of safflower protein powder production were optimized using response surface methodology to achieve maximum yield. Moreover, the physicochemical and functional properties of safflower protein were determined and compared with those of commercial protein powders (soy, sunflower, pea, fava bean, and rice). RESULTS The optimum extraction conditions were found to be 33.06:1 mL-1 g solvent-to-meal ratio, pH 11.00, 23.34 °C extraction temperature, and 30.86 min extraction time, which were achieved with a protein yield response of 75.21%. The highest powder yield (51.28%) was recorded for drying conditions of inlet air temperature of 160.11 °C, aspiration rate of 54.17 m3 h-1, and feed flow rate of 16.01 mL min-1. According to the amino acid profile of safflower protein, the glutamic acid content (14 475 mg (100 g)-1) was highest, while the methionine content (96 mg (100 g)-1) was lowest. Moreover, safflower protein can be regarded as a high-quality protein due to its high essential amino acid ratio (41.55%). The experiments showed that safflower protein had high solubility and good foam and emulsifying properties. CONCLUSION Safflower protein could be a nutritional and functional protein source for the food industry. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are vital components of human and animal nutrition that contribute to the building blocks of proteins. In this study, 170 protease-producing strains were isolated and screened from soy-fermented foods. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens NY130 was obtained from Cheonggukjang with high production of BCAAs. Optimal production of protease from B. amyloliquefaciens NY130 (protease NY130) was achieved at 42 °C and pH 6.0 for 21 h. It was purified and determined as 27- and 40 kDa. Protease NY130 showed maximum activity at pH 9.0 and 45 °C with Km value of 10.95 mg for ISP and 1.69 mg for WPI. Protease-treated ISP and WPI showed increased sweetness and saltiness via electronic tongue analysis and enhanced the protective effect against oxidative stress in C2C12 myocytes by increasing p-mTOR/mTOR protein expression to 160%. This work possesses potential in producing BCAAs by using protease for utilization in food.

Abstract
In this work, we investigated the structural and biological properties of soybean protein isolate (SPI) after 0-8 h hydrolyzation with cell envelope proteinase (CEP) extracted from Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus. CEP hydrolysis increased the β-sheet and red-shifted the fluorescence peak, while decreasing the α-helix, indicating the unfolding of soybean proteins. Increased surface hydrophobicity and fluorescence of the soybean protein hydrolysates were correlated with the increased hydrophobic amino acid (from 209.67 to 217.6 mg/100 g). CEP tended to hydrolyze the N- and C-terminal regions of sequences dominated by Gly and Leu, which enhanced the antioxidant activity of the SPHs (lowest IC50s value of ABTS•+ and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity were 0.324 ± 0.006 mg/mL and 0.365 ± 0.001 mg/mL after 4 h hydrolysis). Comparison with the database of bioactive peptides suggested various potential biological activities, including antioxidant activity, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitory activity and dipeptidyl peptidase-IV inhibitory activity. The study findings have theoretical significance for the development of CEP hydrolysis and novel bioactive soybean peptides.

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of chemical composition of surimi (prepared by 0, 1, or 2 times of rinsing) and gelling temperature (90 °C and 100 °C) on the odor characteristics of surimi products and the relationship between the chemical composition of surimi and the aroma of surimi products. The once- and twice-rinsed surimi showed a decrease (p < 0.05) of 71.32%, 74.60%, 42.79% and 61.12% in the contents of total amino acids and total fatty acids, respectively. The surimi products prepared with un-rinsed surimi at 90 °C had the highest fish-fragrance score, while those prepared with once-rinsed surimi at 100 °C showed the strongest warmed-over flavor (WOF) and the lowest fish-fragrance score.Gly, Phe, and most of the saturated fatty acids were associated with WOF formation in surimi products, while Leu, Ile, Val, Asp, and unsaturated fatty acids were positively related to their fish-fragrance note.

Abstract
This study analyzed and compared the nutritional profiles of wild (Pangasius pangasius) and farmed (Pangasius hypophthalmus) pangasius catfish collected from the various sources of river and culture ponds in Bangladesh. The results indicated that the wild pangasius catfish had a significantly (p < 0.05) higher levels of moisture, fat and ash content, compared to the farmed one. However, the farmed pangasius had significantly higher level of protein and carbohydrate, compared to wild pangasius. The total EAA ratio was found to be significantly higher (p < 0.05) in wild pangasius (1.51 ± 0.01 g/100 g), compared to farmed pangasius (1.55 ± 0.01 g/100 g), which exceeded the FAO/WHO minimum standard of 40% for both species. In regard to fatty acid contents, wild pangasius was found to be rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) with a mean value of 4.89% and 2.72%, respectively, while the values in the farmed pangasius were 1.07% and 0 (not detected), respectively. A higher ω-3/ω-6 ratio was found in wild pangasius 14.26%, in comparison with farmed pangasius (0.14%). Overall, the results indicated that pangasius catfish either farmed or wild are suitable for human consumption wherein wild pangasius has superior amino acid and fatty acid quality, compared to the pangasius reared in captivity.

Abstract
Non-ribosomal peptide synthases (NRPSs) generate versatile bioactive peptides by incorporating non-proteinogenic amino acids and catalyzing diverse modifications. Here, we developed an efficient downstream process for the capture, intermediate purification and polishing of a rhabdopeptide (RXP) produced by the NRPS VietABC. Many typical unit operations were unsuitable due to the similar physical and chemical properties of the RXP and related byproducts. However, we were able to capture the RXP from a fermentation broth using a hydrophobic resin (XAD-16N), resulting in a 14-fold increase in concentration while removing salts as well as polar and weak non-polar impurities. We then used ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) for intermediate purification, with optimized parameters determined using statistical experimental designs, resulting in the complete removal of hydrophobic impurities. Finally, the UHPLC eluents were removed by evaporation. Our three-step downstream process achieved an overall product recovery of 81.7 ± 8.4%.

Abstract
As a highly efficient insecticide, thiamethoxam was widely used in the world. However, it was bioaccumulative and toxic to aquatic organisms that must be removed from water. In this work, nanoscale zero-valent iron particles loaded on montmorillonite (nZVI/Mt) were successfully synthesized for effective removal of thiamethoxam. The properties of nZVI/Mt for the removal of thiamethoxam were investigated, and the reaction conditions were optimized through response surface methodology. Furthermore, the degradation products were analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS). The results demonstrated that the reaction activity of nZVI was enhanced because the agglomeration and oxidation of nZVI particles were effectively inhibited by using montmorillonite as a support. The significance of the effects of each factor on the removal of thiamethoxam was determined to be in the order of pH ˃ temperature ˃ reaction time ˃ nZVI/Mt dosage. The optimal conditions were as follows: a dosage of nZVI/Mt of 2 g/L, a reaction time of 2 h, a reaction temperature of 35 °C, and a solution pH of 3. The removal efficiency of thiamethoxam (C0 = 20 mg/L) was observed to be as high as 94.29% under the optimal conditions, which was close to the value of 94.47% that was predicted using the mathematical model, indicating that the model could accurately predict the removal efficiency of thiamethoxam. The degradation mechanism involved the -NO2 group on the thiamethoxam molecule was reduced and eliminated by nZVI/Mt.

Abstract
Glycerol monolaurate (GML), a member of medium-chain α-monoglycerides (MG), is proved to be beneficial for productive performance, feed efficiency, and health of broilers based on recent research. The present study aims to evaluate the effect of MG mixture rich in GML and glycerol monodecanoate on performance, intestinal development, serum parameters, carcass yield, and muscle composition in broilers. A total of 528 chicks were weighed and randomly assigned into 4 groups (22 chicks/replicate, 6 replicates/group) for a 56-d experiment. The control group received a basal diet containing 0 mg/kg MG (CON), and the treated groups fed basal diets containing 300 (MG300), 450 and 600 mg/kg MG. The results revealed that the BW (P < 0.05), ADG, and ADFI were notably increased in MG-containing groups during the finisher phase compared with the CON group. Remarkable intestinal improvements were observed in the duodenum and jejunum of MG-treated groups, but no statistical differences were obtained. Dietary MG significantly (P < 0.05) increased the serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, total protein, and superoxide dismutase content in broilers. Inclusion of 300 mg/kg MG in diet increased the eviscerated yield (P = 0.066), leg muscle (P < 0.01) and breast muscle yield (P = 0.083), and improved the fresh meat quality with reduced drip loss (P < 0.01) and pH decline (P < 0.01) compared with the CON group. Moreover, the saturated fatty acid (P = 0.073), flavor amino acid (P < 0.05), and total amino acid (P < 0.05) content was notably higher in the muscle of the MG300 group than that in the CON group. In summary, these findings revealed that mixed MG can be used as an effective and novel feed supplement to improve productive performance and quality of broilers.

Abstract
Recent studies reveal that glycerol monolaurate (GML) is regarded as an effective feed supplement in the production of broilers; however, the underlying mechanism remains unknown. The current study aimed to investigate how GML affected production performance and meat quality in yellow-feathered broilers. A total of 528 chicks were randomly assigned into four groups for a 56-day feeding trial. The control group received a basal diet, and the treated groups fed basal diet containing 300 (GML300), 450 (GML450), and 600 (GML600) mg/kg GML. Results revealed that dietary GML notably increased the average daily feed intake (p < 0.05) and body weight in broilers during 28-56 days of age and improved the duodenum and jejunum morphology. Dietary GML increased the total cholesterol in broilers (p < 0.05), but the hepatic, abdominal, and muscular fat deposition, as well as muscle fatty acids, were not affected. The flavor amino acids and total amino acids in muscle of GML300 and GML 450 groups were notably (p < 0.05) increased. GML supplementation selectively increased the colonization of an unclassified genus of Lachnospiraceae family and Bifidobacteriaceae, which were significantly (p < 0.05) correlated with the increase of muscle amino acids. Meanwhile, dietary GML notably increased short chain fatty acids content and the microbial DNA abundance of carbohydrate, amino acids and lipid metabolism pathway in cecum. These findings demonstrated that dietary GML improved performance, intestinal morphology, and muscle amino acids in broilers mainly by manipulating community, function and metabolites of gut microbiota. Abstract
Central composite design (CCD) was applied to optimize the synthesis condition of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using the extract of Plantago major (P. major) seeds via a low cost and single-step process. The aqueous seed extract was applied as both reducing element and capping reagent for green production of AgNPs. Five empirical factors of synthesis including temperature (Temp), pH, volume of P. major extract (Vex), volume of AgNO3 solution (VAg) and synthesis time were used as independent variables of model and peak intensity of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) originated from NPs as the dependent variable. The predicted optimal conditions was determined to be: Temp = 55 °C, pH = 9.9,Vex = 1.5 mL, VAg = 30 mL, time = 60 min. The characterization of the prepared AgNPs at these optimum conditions was conducted by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to determine the surface bio-functionalities. Bio-activity of these AgNPs against bacteria and fungi were evaluated based on its assay against Micrococcus luteus, Escherichia coli and Penicillium digitatum. Furthermore, antioxidant capacity of these NPs was checked using the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay.

Abstract
Physical destruction and thermal treatment are pretreatment methods used to destroy cell membranes and facilitate the release of solute extraction. In this paper, sugar extraction from carrots under different pulsed electric field conditions (field strengths of 250, 750, and 1,250 V/cm, pulse numbers of 10, 45, and 80, and pulse frequency of 1 Hz) and simultaneous thermal treatments (at 20, 45, and 70°C) were studied based on full factorial design experiments with 27 runs. Carrot slices treated with PEF were suspended in water at the desired temperature and liquid-to-solid weight ratio of L/S = 2. Immediately after the PEF treatment, a significant increase in solute extraction was observed due to the permeability of cell membrane that could lead to the enhancement of solute convection on the surface of the tissue. Optimum extraction parameters were obtained as follows: PEF with the field intensity of 750 V/cm, 10 pulses, and temperature of 45°C.

Abstract
We describe an optimization approach to determine simultaneously occurring chelating agents (glycine, malonic acid, citric acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, DL-malic acid, and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) in an electroplating effluent using high-performance liquid chromatography. With chromatography signal area and overall resolution considered as responses, detection conditions were optimized via multiple functions combined with response surface methodology and Plackett-Burman design. Optimized detection conditions were as follows: 15 mmol/L ammonium phosphate buffer (pH 2.5), a 94:6 v/v ratio of ammonium phosphate buffer/acetonitrile, a column temperature of 23.3°C, and a mobile phase flow rate of 1 mL/min. The experimental values conformed to the predicted values and were repeatable (relative standard deviation < 6.4%) and linear (r2 > 0.991) over concentration ranges of 1-100 µmol/L. Moreover, the quantification limit (signal-to-noise ratio = 10) and the detection limit (signal-to-noise ratio = 3) ranged from 0.03 to 0.15 µmol/L and from 0.01 to 0.04 µmol/L, respectively. These results indicate that high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with statistical design may be a simple and rapid method for simultaneously determining multiple chelating agents in electroplating wastewater effectively.

Abstract
Modified micellar liquid chromatography (MLC) with a natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES), produced from choline chloride (ChCl) and ethylene glycol (EG), was employed for melamine (MEL) monitoring in milk matrix. This sustainable mobile phase was attained through chemometrical optimization of crucial variables including concentration of sodium dodecyl sulphate ([SDS]) along with volume percentages of both NADES and glacial acetic acid (GAC). The desirability function and central composite design were utilized as chemometrical tools. Retention time (tR-MEL), and chromatographic peak width of MEL at 50% of its height (W50%-MEL) were considered for finding the best possible arrangement of the influential factors in the configuration of the mobile phase. Under the optimal experimental conditions of 0.10 mol L-1 SDS, 4% (v/v) NADES, and 4% (v/v) GAC, the results showed that both tR-MEL and W50%-MEL drastically decreased when NADES was a part of the mobile phase composition. This indicated that ChCl-EG-based NADES had a significant impact on improving the chromatographic behaviour of an ionizable polar compound, MEL. At the optimal point, MEL was eluted in approximately 10 min without being interfered by coexisting proteins and endogenous species in milk. The practical performance of the mobile phase was established through direct injection of milk samples into the MLC system. The eligibility criteria of the United State-Food and Drug Administration (US-FDA) were considered for validation of the introduced methodology.

Abstract
The proposed analytical method reports the separation and quantification of 21 amino acids including l-citrulline from fresh vegetables and commercial juices using a C8 column. Optimal separation conditions for amino acids analysis were obtained with 20 mM sodium acetate (solvent A) and water with organic modifier acetonitrile and methanol (solvent B; 18/50/32 V/V). The ideal pH and column temperature were found to be 5.40 and 35 °C, respectively. The LOD and LOQ values were obtained in the range of 0.02–0.19 ng/mL and 0.04–0.39 ng/mL for all amino acids respectively. Relative standard deviations (RSD) of intraday and interday analysis were found to be <2.7% and 7.9%, respectively. The recovery of amino acids were found be satisfactory for all the tested crops. The developed method was successfully used for the quantification of amino acids in six fresh vegetable juices including watermelon, cucumber, celery, calabaza squash, zucchini squash, yellow squash and commercial juices. Multivariate analysis was used to determine the significant differences in the amino acids profiles. l-citrulline content was highest in fresh watermelon juice (716.57 ± 24.80 μg/mL) and commercial watermelon lime juice (826.48 ± 34.48 μg/mL). The optimized analytical method is rapid, sensitive, accurate and reproducible for analysis of free amino acids including l-citrulline from different vegetable juices and other food products. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report to separate OPA derivatives of amino acids using C8 column from watermelon, cucumber, zucchini squash, yellow squash, calabaza squash, and celery in a HPLC-FLD system.

Abstract
Thiamine is an essential cofactor in several enzymatic reactions for all living organisms. Animals cannot synthesize thiamine and depend on their diet. Enhancing the content of thiamine is one of the most important goals of plant breeding to solve the thiamine deficiency associated with the low-thiamin staple crops. In this study, a Glycine max pale green leaf 1 (Gmpgl1) mutant was isolated from the EMS mutagenized population of soybean cultivar, Williams 82. Map-based cloning of the GmPGL1 locus revealed a single nucleotide deletion at the 292th nucleotide residue of the first exon of Glyma.10g251500 gene in Gmpgl1 mutant plant, encoding a thiamine thiazole synthase. Total thiamine contents decreased in both seedlings and seeds of the Gmpgl1 mutant. Exogenous application of thiazole restored the pale green leaf phenotype of the mutant. The deficiency of thiamine in Gmpgl1 mutant led to reduced activities of the pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) and pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC), and decreased contents of six amino acids as compared to that in the wild type plants. These results revealed that GmPGL1 played an essential role in thiamine thiazole biosynthesis.

Abstract
Different methodologies for collagen quantification have been described in the past. Introduction of mass spectrometry combined with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a high-resolution tool, which has generated novel applications in biomedical research. In this study, HPLC coupled to electrospray ionization (ESI) tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MS/MS) was used to characterize tissue samples from AVFs done in rats. These findings helped create a protocol for identifying and quantifying components of immature and mature collagen crosslink moieties. Two different internal standards were used: epinephrine and pyridoxine. Quantification curves were drawn by means of these standards. The goal of the experiment was to achieve accurate quantification with the minimum amount of sample. Time and cost of experiment were considerably minimized. Up to date, this method has not been tested for crosslinking quantification.

Abstract
Single conventional columns in reversed-phase liquid chromatography are insufficient for analysing the isoindoles of primary amino acids due to their limited functionality. An interesting possibility for increasing the separation power is the combination of several columns of different nature, where the length is modified by coupling small segments. This approach may require a considerable investment to have multiple lengths for each stationary phase. However, the combination of only two columns of fixed length can be enough to resolve satisfactorily relatively complex mixtures, provided that an optimised gradient program is applied. In this work, a mixture of 19 primary amino acid isoindoles found in proteins was analysed. Four stationary phases were assayed: C18, pentafluorophenyl-C18, C4 and cyano. The mixture of isoindoles was successfully resolved in practical times using a pentafluorophenyl-C18 column coupled to a C4 column, in spite of the extremely poor performance obtained when each column is used isolatedly, independently of the length. The extreme diversity in the polarities of the isoindoles and the need of extrapolating the retention behaviour in certain regions of the solvent content domain makes the modelling of the retention behaviour of the isoindoles particularly difficult. Nevertheless, the predicted optimal separations were very satisfactory.

Abstract
Racemic sulforaphane, which was derivatized with (S)-leucine (l-leucine), was resolved by reversed phase HPLC with UV detection. The optimum mobile phase conditions were found to be 10 mM citric acid (pH 2.8) containing 22% methanol at 35 °C using detection at 254 nm. Sulforaphane enantiomers in florets and stems of five brands of broccoli and leaves and stems of three brands of broccoli sprouts were analyzed by the proposed HPLC method. Both sulforaphane enantiomers were detected in all of the samples. The S/R ratios of sulforaphane in broccoli samples were 1.5-2.6/97.4-98.5% for florets and 5.0-12.1/87.9-95.0% for stems. The S/R ratios in broccoli sprout samples were higher than those in broccoli samples and were found to be 8.3-19.7/80.3-91.7% for leaves and 37.0-41.8/58.2-63.0% for stems. (S)-Sulforaphane detected in the broccoli and its sprout samples was positively identified by separately using an HPLC with a chiral column (Chiralpak AD-RH) and mass spectrometry.

Abstract
l-Phe-imprinted cryogel cartridge was prepared for the chiral separation of l-Phe. N-Methacryloyl l-phenylalanine (MAPA) was used as a functional monomer for complexing with l-Phe. The selectivity of the membranes was investigated by using d-Phe, l-Trp, and d-Trp as competitor molecules. The PHEMAPA-l-Trp membranes were 6.4, 4.3, and 5.5 times more selective for l-Phe than d-Phe, l-Trp, and d-Trp, respectively. The PHEMAPA-l-Phe cryogel cartridge was incorporated into the fast protein liquid chromatography (FPLC) equipment and was able to separate D,l-Phe racemic mixture efficiently. The PHEMAPA-l-Phe membranes were shown to be reusable many times without significant loss of the adsorption capacity.

Abstract
Box-Behnken design was applied to optimize high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) conditions for the simultaneous determination of potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, carmoisine, allura red, ponceau 4R, and caffeine in commercial soft drinks. The experimental variables chosen were pH (6.0–7.0), flow rate (1.0–1.4 mL/min), and mobile phase ratio (85–95% acetate buffer). Resolution values of all peak pairs were used as a response. Stationary phase was Inertsil OctaDecylSilane- (ODS-) 3V reverse phase column (250 × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) dimensions. The detection was performed at 230 nm. Optimal values were found 6.0 pH, 1.0 mL/min flow rate, and 95% mobile phase ratio for the method which was validated by calculating the linearity (r2 > 0.9962), accuracy (recoveries ≥ 95.75%), precision (intraday variation ≤ 1.923%, interday variation ≤ 1.950%), limits of detection (LODs), and limits of quantification (LOQs) parameters. LODs and LOQs for analytes were in the range of 0.10–0.19 μg/mL and 0.33–0.63 μg/mL, respectively. The proposed method was applied successfully for the simultaneous determination of the mixtures of five food additives and caffeine in soft drinks.

Abstract
The aim of this work was to evaluate significant factors affecting the thiamethoxam adsorption efficiency using oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as adsorbents. Five factors (initial solution concentration of thiamethoxam in water, temperature, solution pH, MWCNTs weight and contact time) were investigated using 2V(5-1) fractional factorial design. The obtained linear model was statistically tested using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the analysis of residuals was used to investigate the model validity. It was observed that the factors and their second-order interactions affecting the thiamethoxam removal can be divided into three groups: very important, moderately important and insignificant ones. The initial solution concentration was found to be the most influencing parameter on thiamethoxam adsorption from water. Optimization of the factors levels was carried out by minimizing those parameters which are usually critical in real life: the temperature (energy), contact time (money) and weight of MWCNTs (potential health hazard), in order to maximize the adsorbed amount of the pollutant. The results of maximal adsorbed thiamethoxam amount in both real and optimized experiments indicate that among minimized parameters the adsorption time is one that makes the largest difference. The results of this study indicate that fractional factorial design is very useful tool for screening the higher number of parameters and reducing the number of adsorption experiments.

Abstract
UNLABELLED CONTEXT. Huperzia saururus (Lam.) Trevis. (Lycopodiaceae), an autochthonous plant species in Argentina, is used as a memory improver in traditional medicine. It was studied for this reason and the purified alkaloid extract did show significant activity on learning and memory. The species is mostly consumed in the form of infusions and decoctions. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the activity of the H. saururus infusion and decoction as inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and to determine the amino acid content in both extracts. MATERIAL AND METHODS Infusion and decoction were purified by ionic exchange chromatography and analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography HPLC-UV, and the AChE inhibition of these extracts was evaluated by using the Ellman method. RESULTS Both infusion and decoction exerted strong AChE inhibitory activities (IC50=7.2 ± 0.4 and 22.7 ± 5.6 μg/mL, respectively). Among nine amino acids, arginine (Arg) was identified in a concentration greater than 9 mg/100 g of dried aerial parts in both extracts. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION This high content of Arg could be considered a contributing factor to the activity on memory previously demonstrated for the H. saururus alkaloid extract, since Arg is implicated indirectly in mnemonic processes as a precursor in nitric oxide synthesis. Thus, the central effect of H. saururus could involve two different mechanisms, the cholinergic mechanism and the nitric oxide pathway.
