Quantitative analysis of the minimum days of dietary survey to estimate dietary pesticide exposure: Implications for dietary pesticide sampling strategy. Abstract
Populations are exposed to pesticides through diet on a daily basis. However, there is no research guiding how to evaluate dietary pesticide exposure, and researchers used 1-day, 3-days, 7-days or even longer dietary survey to evaluate without any consensus. It is important for dietary pesticide evaluation to identify the minimum survey days. To increase knowledge of this, a data combination was applied between a two-wave consecutive repeated-measures study in Baoding City and the Fifth China Total Diet Study. Further policy consistency on pesticides were evaluated to explain its credibility. We computed the sensitivity and specificity to evaluate how well different days of dietary survey classify participants with high exposure, and calculated the minimum days required to estimate the participant-specific mean at different acceptable error range. With 1 day of dietary survey, the classification sensitivity was low (<0.6) for total HCH, endosulfan, chlordane, cyhalothrin, allethrin, and prallethrin; that for the other pesticides was high sensitivity (≥0.6). Sensitivity increased as the number of days increased, and the maximum marginal sensitivity increase (≥0.039) occurred from 1 to 2 days for all pesticides except phenothrin, whose maximum marginal sensitivity increase (0.042) occurred from 2 to 3 days. The specificity increased gradually from 0.8 to 0.9 from 1 to 7 days. Under the acceptable error range of 0.5%, 3-28 days were required for participant-specific mean estimation and 1-7 days were required when acceptable error range was shrunk in 1%. Only 1 day was enough if 5% error range was acceptable. In conclusion, 3 days in the study period was cost-effective to distinguish high exposure group, and it rose to 7 when estimating participant-specific mean from a conservative perspective. This study can serve as a reference to determine the minimum survey days for epidemiological studies employing dietary surveys.

Abstract
Triazine herbicides (TRZHs) are widely used in agricultural production, but their improper use can threaten the environment and organisms. Herein, rapid extraction of four chlorotriazine herbicides (Cl-TRZHs) in irrigation water was achieved using an ionic liquid modified porous m-aminophenol formaldehyde resin (IL-MAPFR) as a dispersive filter extraction (DFE) adsorbent. The IL-MAPFR shows excellent adsorption performance for four Cl-TRZHs (simazine, cyanazine, atrazine, and terbuthylazine), with a large specific surface area (158.1 m2 g-1) and fast mass transfer (2 min). The adsorption process conforms to the pseudo-second-order kinetics and Freundlich isotherm models. The four Cl-TRZHs were concentrated 12-16-fold after the IL-MAPFR-DFE method. Coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography, an accurate and sensitive determination method for four Cl-TRZHs in irrigation water was established, with low detection limit (0.11-0.20 ng mL-1), high recoveries (91.5-110%), and excellent precision (relative standard deviations (RSDs) ≤ 8.4%). This method provides technical support for agricultural irrigation water quality monitoring and has great application potential in water safety, especially pesticide residues.

Abstract
The Chinese Yam (Dioscorea opposita) is cultivated widely in China. However, there are potential safety risks associated with herbicide residues in Chinese Yam because of its characteristics and unregulated use of pesticides. We developed an efficient sample preparation technique for simultaneous analysis of atrazine and its degradation products in Chinese Yam using accelerated solvent extraction and pipette tip solid-phase extraction followed by UPLC-DAD analysis. Molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) were used as the adsorbent material. Method performance was evaluated and our results showed the limit of quantification was 1-3 μg/ kg, with recoveries in the range 79.2-103.8%. When compared with other methods, this method provided superior performance in terms of sensitivity, accuracy, and precision. This method is, therefore, expected to be useful in supervised residue analysis.

Abstract
Since the Directive 2013/39/EU included terbutryn to the list of priority substances of all water bodies, a previous method based on dispersive liquid-liquid micro-extraction (DLLME) for the determination of triazines in seawater has been modified. The main change consisted on the use of tandem mass spectrometry instead of diode array as detection technique. Due to the higher sensitivity of mass detector, sample volume was reduced and extraction solvent volume was optimized. The optimum extraction conditions were 5 mL of sample, 50 µL of 1-octanol and an agitation step instead of disperser solvent. The obtained analytical recoveries (73%-101% with relative standard deviations below 4%) meeting the requirements. The limits of quantification (between 0.016 and 0.021 µg L-1) were more than 10 times lower than the limit set by the European Directive 2013/39/EU for terbutryn (0.34 µg L-1). The proposed method was applied to the determination of the target compounds in seawater samples from A Coruña (Galicia, NW of Spain).

Abstract
This research aimed at implementing and validating a method for analysis of pesticide residues in crops. QuEChERS extraction method with PSA purification was used following analyzes by gas chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry in Selected Reaction Monitoring mode. A short run method was successfully developed for the determination of 41 pesticides, confirmed by two precursor-products for each analyte. The calibration curve for each analyte was linear at concentration range from 1 to 500 μg kg-1 with correlation coefficients higher than 0.99, low limits of detection (0.03 - 10.22 μg kg-1) and satisfactory precision. The developed method was used to investigate apples; mangos; strawberries; cucumbers and tomatoes from the Rio de Janeiro Food Distribution Center (CEASA).Most of the targeted pesticides (78%) were below detection limits. Apple and strawberry presented the highest pesticide contamination levels, many of which are not authorized by tthe Brazilian national regulatory agency (ANVISA).

Abstract
Ethiprole and its degradation products were identified and quantified using UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS. Indoor culture experiments and UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS are used to study the hydrolysis, photolysis, and soil degradation behavior of ethiprole in water and soil. The differences in ethiprole degradation products across a range of environmental conditions such as pH, light, and oxygen availability were compared in order to improve understanding of the ethiprole degradation pathway and the toxicity of the degradation products. Eleven degradation products were identified using UHPLC-Q-TOF/MS and MetaboLynx XS Training software, and two new degradation products (M401 and M312) were characterized by 1H NMR and HR MS. Three degradation products M401, M399, and M312 were detected in samples using a UHPLC-MS/MS protocol established in this study. Tests of acute toxicity of the three degradation products on Brachydanio rerio, Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, and Daphnia magna Straus found that the toxicity of M401 to Daphnia magna Straus was greater than that of the parent compound, indicating that ethiprole degradation should be carefully monitored in given the environmental risk posed by its degradation products.

Abstract
We developed a sensitive and selective isotope dilution ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method for the determination of sulbactam residue in raw bovine milk. Sulbactam and internal standard, sulbactam-d5, were extracted from raw bovine milk via liquid-liquid extraction and enriched with strong anion exchange solid-phase extraction cartridges and finally analyzed by using UPLC-MS/MS with multiple reaction monitoring mode. The method was validated according to European regulations. The calibration curve showed good linearity, with a correlation coefficient of 0.9998. Decision limit and detection capability of sulbactam were determined by matrix calibration curve and were 0.0445 and 0.0517 μg/L, respectively. The recoveries of sulbactam in fortified raw bovine milk ranged from 72.1 to 91.5%, with the intra- and interday relative standard deviations ranging from 3.0 to 18.9%. Furthermore, the developed method was applied to analyzing real raw bovine milk samples collected from dairy farms in Beijing, China. Sulbactam was not determined in all samples. The proposed method could ultimately serve as a methodological foundation for the determination of sulbactam in different types of raw milk and dairy products.

Abstract
The magnetic metal-organic framework MIL-101(Cr) material-based solid-phase extraction method coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry was applied to extract seven triazine herbicides in rices. Fe3 O4 /MIL-101(Cr) was synthesized using reduction-precipitation method, in which steps including pre-synthesis and modification of Fe3 O4 nanoparticles were by-passed. Various parameters including extraction solvent type and volume, ultrasonic extraction time, amount of Fe3 O4 /MIL-101(Cr) microspheres, adsorption time, desorption volume and time were investigated. Under optimal conditions, the proposed method had the limit of detection (S/N = 3) and the limit of quantification (S/N = 10) of 1.08-18.10 and 3.60-60.20 pg/g, respectively. Relative standard deviations calculated for all herbicides with concentrations of 2 and 20 ng/g were in the range of 0.5 to 13% (n = 3). In addition, at the two above-mentioned concentrations, the method achieved relative recoveries percentages of 79.3 to 116.7% when applied to determine the triazine herbicides in real samples spiked. This rapid, green, non-polluting, pre-concentrated extraction method was successfully developed and applied to analyze herbicides in rice samples.

Abstract
This paper reports the degradation of 10 mg L-1 Ametryn solution with different advanced oxidation processes and by ultraviolet (UV254) irradiation alone with the main objective of reducing acute toxicity and increase biodegradability. The investigated factors included Fe2+ and H2O2 concentrations. The effectiveness of the UV254 and UV254/H2O2 processes were investigated using a low-pressure mercury UV lamp (254 nm). Photo-Fenton process was explored using a blacklight blue lamp (BLB, λ = 365 nm). The UV254 irradiation process achieved complete degradation of Ametryn solution after 60 min. The degradation time of Ametryn was greatly improved by the addition of H2O2. It is worth pointing out that a high rate of Ametryn removal was attained even at low concentrations of H2O2. The kinetic constant of the reaction between Ametryn and HO● for UV254/H2O2 was 3.53 × 108 L mol-1 s-1. The complete Ametryn degradation by the Fenton and photo-Fenton processes was observed following 10 min of reaction for various combinations of Fe2+ and H2O2 under investigation. Working with the highest concentration (150 mg L-1 H2O2 and 10 mg L-1 Fe2+), around 30 and 70% of TOC removal were reached within 120 min of treatment by Fenton and photo-Fenton processes, respectively. Although it did not obtain complete mineralization, the intermediates formed in the degradation processes were hydroxylated and did not promote acute toxicity of Vibrio fischeri. Furthermore, a substantial improvement of biodegradability was obtained for all studied processes.

Abstract
Triazines and their degradation products are transported to the aquatic environment, and once there, the probability to reach the marine environment is very high. In this paper, solid phase extraction (SPE) and extraction by matrix solid phase dispersion (MSPD) to analyse nine triazines (ametryn, atrazine, cyanazine, prometryn, propazine, simazine, simetryn, terbuthylazine and terbutryn) and eight degradation products (desethylatrazine, desethyldesisopropylatrazine, desethyl-2-hydroxyatrazine, desethylterbuthylazine, desisopropylatrazine, desisopropyl-2-hydroxyatrazine, 2-hydroxyatrazine and 2-hidroxyterbuthylazine) in seawater and marine sediments samples were used. The analysis was carried out using liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS). The methods were optimized and validated to achieve a selective and sensitive determination of the analytes from different sample, regardless of its complexity. Under the optimum conditions, the proposed methods provided adequate limits of quantification (0.05-0.45 μg L-1 and 0.23-4.26 μg kg-1 in seawater and marine sediments, respectively). Intra- and inter-day relative standard deviation were below 1.41% for all compounds. Recoveries were evaluated, and acceptable values that ranged from 87.5-99.4 and 60.9-99.7% for the seawater and sediment samples, respectively, were obtained. The proposed methods were applied to the analysis of the target compounds in seawater samples and marine sediments from a coastal area of Galicia (NW of Spain).

Molecularly imprinted solid phase extraction in a syringe filter for determination of triazine herbicides in Radix Paeoniae Alba by ultra-fast liquid chromatography. Talanta 2015; 148:539-47. Abstract
A novel, cost-effective and simple solid phase extraction (SPE) method, by using a syringe connected with a nylon membrane filter as the adsorbent container, was developed for the extraction of triazine herbicides from Radix Paeoniae Alba (RPA) samples. The selective molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) synthesized with the template of atrazine were employed as the adsorbents for the enrichment and purification of analytes. The extraction parameters, including the volume and type of loading solvent, the type of washing solvent and eluting solvent, were investigated. Under the optimized conditions, the final extracts were analyzed by ultra-fast liquid chromatography (UFLC). Recoveries of the developed method range from 92.4% to 107.3% with intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations (RSDs) lower than 8.2%. The calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 0.005-2.4 µg g(-1) for desmetryn, atrazine and terbumeton, and 0.005-1.5 µg g(-1) for dimethametryn and dipropetryn, with the correlation coefficient (R(2)) higher than 0.9995. The limits of detection (LODs) of five triazine herbicides are in the range of 0.09-0.39 ng g(-1), which are lower than the maximum residue levels (MRLs) established by various official organizations. Analytical results of three real Radix Paeoniae Alba samples indicate that the proposed method is cost-effective and easy-to-use than other routine pretreatment methods.

Abstract
Novel, fast, selective, eco-friendly and reproducible solid-phase membrane tip extraction and gas chromatography with mass spectrometry methods were developed and validated for the analysis of triazine herbicides (atrazine and secbumeton) in stream and lake waters. The retention times of atrazine and secbumeton were 7.48 and 8.51 min. The solid-phase membrane tip extraction was carried out in semiautomated dynamic mode on multiwall carbon nanotubes enclosed in a cone-shaped polypropylene membrane cartridge. Acetone and methanol were found as the best preconditioning and desorption solvents, respectively. The extraction and desorption times for these herbicides were 15.0 and 10.0 min, respectively. The percentage recoveries of atrazine and secbumeton were 88.0 and 99.0%. The linearity range was 0.50-80.0 μg/L (r(2) > 0.994), with detection limits (<0.47 μg/L, S/N = 3) and good reproducibility (<8.0%). The ease of operation, eco-friendly nature, and low cost of solid-phase membrane tip extraction made these methods novel. The Solid-phase membrane tip extraction method was optimized by considering the effect of extraction time, desorbing solvents and time.

Abstract
Novel poly(ionic liquids) were synthesized and immobilized on prepared magnetic nanoparticles, which were used to extract pesticides from fruit and vegetable samples by dispersive solid-phase extraction prior to high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. Compared with monomeric ionic liquids, poly(ionic liquids) have a larger effective contact area and higher viscosity, so they can achieve higher extraction efficiency and be used repeatedly without a decrease in analyte recovery. The immobilized poly(ionic liquids) were rapidly separated from the sample matrix, providing a simple approach for sample pretreatment. The nature and volume of the desorption solvent and amount of poly(ionic liquid)-modified magnetic material were optimized for the extraction process. Under optimum conditions, calibration curves were linear (R(2) > 0.9988) for pesticide concentrations in the range of 0.100-10.000 μg/L. The relative standard deviations for repeated determinations of the four analytes were 2.29-3.31%. The limits of detection and quantification were 0.29-0.88 and 0.97-2.93 μg/L, respectively. Our results demonstrate that the developed poly(ionic liquid)-modified material is an effective absorbent to extract pesticides from fruit and vegetable samples.
