Abstract
For the first time, we introduce a novel disposable and ultrasensitive sensing electrode made up of nanosized ceria uniformly loaded carbon nanofibers (CeNPs@CNF) sol-gel nanoceramic film (CF) wrapped on eco-friendly and inexpensive pencil graphite rods (PGRs) to explore their electro-catalytic detection of the anticancer drug capmatinib (CMB). The as-prepared CeNPs@CNF hybrid nanocomposite was described by XRD, SEM, TEM, HRTEM, and EDX analysis. The CV study clearly demonstrated that, the disposable CeNPs@CNF-CF/PGRE sensor exhibited excellent redox activities in the ideal probe [Fe(CN)6]3-/4-. Due to the outstanding electrochemical properties, larger electrochemically active surface area, and tremendous electro-catalytic activity of CeNPs@CNF, the reduction current of CMB on the CeNPs@CNF-CF/PGRE sensor is considerably higher than that of bare PGRE. The detection conditions, such as supporting electrolyte, pH of the buffer solution, amount of modifier, adsorption potential, and time, were studied and optimized. The sensing platform demonstrated high sensitivity (1.2 μA nM-1 cm-2), an ultralow detection limit (0.6 nM), and a wide linear range of 2.0 nM-400 nM of CMB compared to the bare PGRE. Additionally, the CeNPs@CNF-CF/PGRE sensor showed high selectivity, stability, and simple operation, which provided a promising alternative tool for fast detection of CMB in human body fluids with good recoveries.

Abstract
Electrochemical sensors have been recognized as crucial tools for monitoring comprehensive chemical information, especially in the detection of a significant class of molecules known as phenolic compounds. These compounds can be present in water as hazardous analytes and trace contaminants, as well as in living organisms where they regulate their metabolism. The sensitive detection of phenolic compounds requires highly efficient and cost-effective electrocatalysts to enable the development of high-performance sensors. Therefore, this review focuses on the development of advanced materials with excellent catalytic activity as alternative electrocatalysts to conventional ones, with a specific emphasis on transition metal-based electrocatalysts for the detection of phenolic compounds. This research is particularly relevant in diverse sectors such as water quality, food safety, and healthcare.

Abstract
The widespread occurrence of endocrine disruptor compounds in wastewater has garnered significant attention owing to their toxicity, even at low concentrations, and their persistence in the water body. Among various analytical techniques, electrochemical sensors become popular for the environmental monitoring of water pollutants due to their low cost, rapid detection, high sensitivity, and selectivity. In this study, the mesoporous Ni (MNi) material was synthesized with an innovative method using Pluronic™ F-127 as a soft template and applied as a modifier for the simultaneous electrochemical sensing of hydroquinone (HQ), catechol (CC), bisphenol A (BPA), and bisphenol S (BPS). MNi with high porosity efficiently enhanced the redox-active surface area and conductivity of the glassy carbon electrode contributing to a significantly improved sensitivity in the detection of target chemicals. The pore size and surface area of MNi were estimated based on atomic force microscopy and Brunauer Emmett and Teller techniques to be ∼14.2 nm and 31.1 m2 g-1, respectively. The limit of detection for HQ, CC, BPA, and BPS was determined to be 5.3, 5.7, 5.6, and 61.5 nM, respectively. The electrochemical sensor presented in this study holds promise as a platform for developing portable and miniaturized tools offering the rapid and sensitive detection of these hazardous phenolic compounds in environmental water samples.

Abstract
Herein, a three-dimensional flower-like cobalt-nickel bimetallic metal-organic framework (CoNi-MOF) coupled with two-dimensional graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites was successfully synthesized for the selective and simultaneous electrochemical determination of catechol (CC) and hydroquinone (HQ). The three-dimensional flower-like structure of the CoNi-MOF/GO nanocomposite has a multilayer structure and a large surface area, which greatly improves its electrocatalytic activity towards CC and HQ. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) results showed that the peak-to-peak separation of CC (0.223 V) and HQ (0.120 V) was 103 mV at a CoNi-MOF/GO modified glassy carbon electrode (CoNi-MOF/GO/GCE), suggesting that the proposed modified electrode can selectively and simultaneously determine them. Under optimal conditions, the CoNi-MOF/GO/GCE showed an excellent analytical performance for the simultaneous determination of CC and HQ, including a wide linear range (0.1-100 μM), low detection limit (0.04 μM for HQ and 0.03 μM for CC) and high anti-interference ability. As expected, the developed modified electrode has been used to analyze CC and HQ in river water, with acceptable results.

Abstract
Electrochemical sensors consisting of screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) are recurrent devices in the recent literature for applications in different fields of interest and contribute to the expanding electroanalytical chemistry field. This is due to inherent characteristics that can be better (or only) achieved with the use of SPEs, including miniaturization, cost reduction, lower sample consumption, compatibility with portable equipment, and disposability. SPEs are also quite versatile; they can be manufactured using different formulations of conductive inks and substrates, and are of varied designs. Naturally, the analytical performance of SPEs is directly affected by the quality of the material used for printing and modifying the electrodes. In this sense, the most varied carbon nanomaterials have been explored for the preparation and modification of SPEs, providing devices with an enhanced electrochemical response and greater sensitivity, in addition to functionalized surfaces that can immobilize biological agents for the manufacture of biosensors. Considering the relevance and timeliness of the topic, this review aimed to provide an overview of the current scenario of the use of carbonaceous nanomaterials in the context of making electrochemical SPE sensors, from which different approaches will be presented, exploring materials traditionally investigated in electrochemistry, such as graphene, carbon nanotubes, carbon black, and those more recently investigated for this (carbon quantum dots, graphitic carbon nitride, and biochar). Perspectives on the use and expansion of these devices are also considered.

Abstract
Recently, the active surface modification of glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) has received much attention for the development of electrochemical sensors. Nanomaterials are widely explored as surface-modifying materials. Herein, we have reported the hydrothermal synthesis of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and its electro-catalytic properties for the fabrication of a resorcinol sensor. Structural properties such as surface morphology of the prepared MoS2 was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and phase purity was examined by employing the powder X-ray diffraction technique. The presence of Mo and S elements in the obtained MoS2 was confirmed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Finally, the active surface of the glassy carbon electrode was modified with MoS2. This MoS2-modified glassy carbon electrode (MGC) was explored as a potential candidate for the determination of resorcinol. The fabricated MGC showed a good sensitivity of 0.79 µA/µMcm2 and a detection limit of 1.13 µM for the determination of resorcinol. This fabricated MGC also demonstrated good selectivity, and stability towards the detection of resorcinol.

Abstract
Different morphology of N-doped carbon materials, including three-dimensional interconnected N-doped hierarchically porous carbon networks (3D-NC), two-dimensional ultrathin porous carbon nanosheets (2D-NC), and bulk N-doped carbon with micron size (bulk-NC), was easily prepared by using NaCl crystal templates-assisted strategy. Compared with bare glassy carbon, bulk-NC, and 2D-NC, the as-synthesized 3D-NC exhibits excellent electrochemical activity toward the oxidation and sensing of three kinds of common environmental pollutants dihydroxybenzene isomers (hydroquinone (HQ), catechol (CC), and resorcinol (RS)). The impressive electrochemical activity of 3D-NC can be interpreted by its large specific surface area, continuous network-like morphology, superior electro-catalytic ability, and strong accumulation efficiency. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) test showed the 3D-NC-modified electrode exhibited three well-separated oxidation peaks at 0.05 V, 0.14 V, and 0.45 V vs. saturated calomel electrode (SCE) for HQ, CC, and RS, and their detection limits were evaluated to be as low as 0.0044, 0.012, and 0.016 mg L-1, respectively. Finally, a novel electrochemical analytical platform is successfully fabricated for the simultaneous monitoring of hydroquinone, catechol, and resorcinol with high sensitivity. When used for real wastewater samples analysis, recovery ratio ranging from 94 to 108% with lower than 5% of relative standard deviation (RSD) values was achieved. This work proves a facile strategy to prepare morphology-controlled N-doped carbon-based material and demonstrates its high application potential for environmental monitoring and electrochemical analysis.

Abstract
The rapid and decentralized detection of bacteria from biomedical, environmental, and food samples has the capacity to improve the conventional protocols and to change a predictable outcome. Identifying new markers and analysis methods represents an attractive strategy for the indirect but simpler and safer detection of pathogens that could replace existing methods. Enterobactin (Ent), a siderophore produced by Escherichia coli or other Gram-negative bacteria, was studied on different electrode materials to reveal its electrochemical fingerprint—very useful information towards the detection of the bacteria based on this analyte. The molecule was successfully identified in culture media samples and a future goal is the development of a rapid antibiogram. The presence of Ent was also assessed in wastewater and treated water samples collected from the municipal sewage treatment plant, groundwater, and tap water. Moreover, a custom configuration printed on a medical glove was employed to detect the target in the presence of another bacterial marker, namely pyocyanin (PyoC), that being a metabolite specific of another pathogen bacterium, namely Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Such new mobile and wearable platforms offer considerable promise for rapid low-cost on-site screening of bacterial contamination.

Abstract
Hydroquinone (HQ) and catechol (CC) are the two major dihydroxybenzene isomers, are considered one of the toxic pollutants in wastewater, which often coexisted and impede each other during sample identification. For practical analysis and simultaneous detection of HQ and CC in wastewater, we fabricate a hybrid electrochemical sensor with electrospun one-dimensional (1D) MnMoO4 nanofibers coupled with a few-layered exfoliated two-dimensional (2D) MXene. The facilitated abundant defective edges of 1D MnMoO4 and 2D MXene nanoarchitecture accelerated the effect of synergistic signal amplification and exhibited high electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of hydroquinone and catechol. MnMoO4-MXene-GCE showed oxidation potentials of 0.102 V and 0.203 V for hydroquinone and catechol, respectively. It revealed the distinguished and simultaneous detection range of 0.101 V with a strong anodic peak current. Noteworthily, the proposed 1D-2D hybridized MnMoO4-MXene-GCE sensor exhibited a wide linear response from 5 nM to 65 nM for hydroquinone and catechol. Moreover, it showed a low detection limit of 0.26 nM and 0.30 nM for HQ and CC with high stability, respectively. The feasible 1D-2D MnMoO4-MXene nanocomposite-based biosensor effectively detected hydroquinone and catechol in hazardous water pollutants using the differential pulse voltammetric technique with recovery values.

Abstract
The specific detection of resorcin from its isomers is a current research hotspot. Thus in our work, a ternary hierarchical porous nanoprobe has been constructed based on the combination of cuttlefish ink and bimetallic Au@Ag nanoclusters for the specific sensing of resorcin. Briefly, through electrostatic interaction, Au@Ag core-shell nanoclusters are immobilized on the surface of polydopamine extracted from cuttlefish, which is turned into nitrogen-doped porous carbon functionalized by bimetallic Au@Ag by topological transformation subsequently. Afterward, an electrochemical sensor is fabricated based on the nanoprobes for specifically determining resorcin in solution by differential pulse voltammetry, and the linear detection ranges of the sensor are 1-100 μM and 1.2-4 mM while the detection limit reaches 0.06 μM. Meanwhile, the sensing mechanism of resorcin by the pre-fabricated sensor is detailedly studied by density functional theory to obtain a clear electrochemical process. Besides, the selectivity, stability, plus reproducibility of the pre-fabricated sensor have been also tested, and the determinations for resorcin in real environmental water samples have also been performed with good recoveries, revealing the auspicious application potential in the environmental monitoring.

Abstract
An electrochemical sensor based on electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ErGO), carboxylated carbon nanotubes (cMWCNT), and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) (GCE/ErGO-cMWCNT/AuNPs) was developed for the simultaneous detection of dihidroxybenzen isomers (DHB) hydroquinone (HQ), catechol (CC), and resorcinol (RS) using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The fabrication and optimization of the system were evaluated with Raman Spectroscopy, SEM, cyclic voltammetry, and DPV. Under optimized conditions, the GCE/ErGO-cMWCNT/AuNPs sensor exhibited a linear concentration range of 1.2–170 μM for HQ and CC, and 2.4–400 μM for RS with a detection limit of 0.39 μM, 0.54 μM, and 0.61 μM, respectively. When evaluated in tap water and skin-lightening cream, DHB multianalyte detection showed an average recovery rate of 107.11% and 102.56%, respectively. The performance was attributed to the synergistic effects of the 3D network formed by the strong π–π stacking interaction between ErGO and cMWCNT, combined with the active catalytic sites of AuNPs. Additionally, the cMWCNT provided improved electrocatalytic properties associated with the carboxyl groups that facilitate the adsorption of the DHB and the greater amount of active edge planes. The proposed GCE/ErGO-cMWCNT/AuNPs sensor showed a great potential for the simultaneous, precise, and easy-to-handle detection of DHB in complex samples with high sensitivity.

Abstract
The ternary NiCoAl hydrotalcite (NiCoAl-LDH) was combined with carboxylic multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) to fabricate a novel electrochemical sensor for simultaneously determining the co-existing trace phenolic substances. The morphology, structure, and electrochemical behavior of the as-prepared materials were characterized by various techniques. Benefitting from the great conductivity of MWCNT and high electrocatalytic activity of NiCoAl-LDH for phenolic substances, the advanced MWCNT/NiCoAl-LDH sensor presented a fast response, high sensitivity, excellent stability, and satisfactory replicability. The sensor offered good linear responses in the ranges1.50~600 μM to hydroquinone (HQ), 5.00~1.03 × 103 μM to catechol (CC), and 6.00 × 10-2~250 μM to bisphenol A (BPA). The detection limits of HQ, CC, and BPA were 0.4, 0.8, and 6. × 10-3 μM (S/N = 3), respectively. In environmental water, the sensor achieved satisfactory recoveries for the simultaneous detection of HQ (98.6~101%), CC (98.0~101%), and BPA (97.5~101%), with relative standard deviations less than 4.4%.

Abstract
In this proposed work, direct green 6 (DG6) decorated carbon paste electrode (CPE) was fabricated for the efficient simultaneous and individual sensing of catechol (CA) and hydroquinone (HY). Electrochemical deeds of the CA and HY were carried out by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) at poly-DG6-modfied carbon paste electrode (Po-DG6-MCPE). Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studied the surface property of unmodified CPE (UCPE) and Po-DG6-MCPE. The decorated sensor displayed admirable electrocatalytic performance with fine stability, reproducibility, selectivity, low limit of detection (LLOD) for HY (0.11 μM) and CC (0.09 μM) and sensor process was originated to be adsorption-controlled phenomena. The Po-DG6-MCPE sensor exhibits well separated two peaks for HY and CA in CV and DPV analysis with potential difference of 0.098 V. Subsequently, the sensor was practically applied for the analysis in tap water and it consistent in-between for CA 93.25–100.16% and for HY 97.25–99.87% respectively.

Abstract
Electrochemical devices convert chemical reactions into electrical energy or, vice versa, electricity into a chemical reaction. While batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors, solar cells, and sensors belong to the galvanic cells based on the first reaction, electrolytic cells are based on the reversed process and used to decompose chemical compounds by electrolysis. Especially fuel cells, using an electrochemical reaction of hydrogen with an oxidizing agent to produce electricity, and electrolytic cells, e.g., used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, are of high interest in the ongoing search for production and storage of renewable energies. This review sheds light on recent developments in the area of electrospun electrochemical devices, new materials, techniques, and applications. Starting with a brief introduction into electrospinning, recent research dealing with electrolytic cells, batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors, electrochemical solar cells, and electrochemical sensors is presented. The paper concentrates on the advantages of electrospun nanofiber mats for these applications which are mostly based on their high specific surface area and the possibility to tailor morphology and material properties during the spinning and post-treatment processes. It is shown that several research areas dealing with electrospun parts of electrochemical devices have already reached a broad state-of-the-art, while other research areas have large space for future investigations.

Abstract
Three-dimensional hierarchically porous carbon (denoted as SA-900) with a microporous, mesoporous and macroporous structure was facilely fabricated via direct carbonization of sodium alginate. SA-900 was fully characterized by N2 adsorption-desorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy to confirm its structure. SA-900 was coated onto a glassy carbon electrode surface to construct an ultrasensitive electrochemical sensing platform (SA-900/GCE). Electrochemical behaviors of hydroquinone (HQ), catechol (CC) and resorcinol (RC) on the SA-900/GCE surface were investigated, and it was found that SA-900 possesses excellent electrocatalytic activity towards them. Experimental conditions including carbonization temperature, pH value, SA-900 concentration, accumulation potential and accumulation time were optimized for quantitative assay. Under optimized conditions, linear ranges for simultaneous determination of HQ, CC and RC are 0.05-1.50 μM, 0.05-1.50 μM and 0.50-15.00 μM, respectively. Detection limits for HQ, CC and RC are calculated to be 0.0183 μM, 0.0303 μM and 0.3193 μM (S/N = 3). The SA-900/GCE based electrochemical sensing platform is applied for determining HQ, CC and RC in lake water samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract
A mildly one-pot method is developed for the synthesis of quasi-networked Au1.5Pt1Co1 ternary alloy nanoparticles (TANPs) at room temperature through the co-reduction of AuCl4-, PtCl6- and Co2+ with hydrazine hydrate. Characterizations of XRD, XPS, HRTEM, EDS and SAED successfully reveal the crystal structure, composition, valence and morphology of Au1.5Pt1Co1 TANPs, respectively. The glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified by Au1.5Pt1Co1 TANPs with good dispersion and multi-density surface defects occupies the optimal electrochemical active surface area (ECSA). After the coated poly-L-cysteine (P-L-Cys) film on the Au1.5Pt1Co1/GCE surface, the morphology, element mapping and surface roughness of the P-L-Cys/Au1.5Pt1Co1/GCE are investigated via FESEM and AFM to verify continuous electrode modification processes. The electrochemical behaviors of the composite electrode for hydroquinone (HQ) are evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) with interfacial properties of adsorption and diffusion. Differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) for HQ electrochemical sensing at 0.10 V (vs. SCE) exhibits two linear response ranges from 0.1 to 30 and 30-200 μM, respectively. A low detection limit (S/N = 3) of 0.045 μM is obtained with a sensitivity of 4.247 μA μM-1·cm-2. The resulting P-L-Cys/Au1.5Pt1Co1/GCE also presents ascendant selectivity, repeatability, reproducibility and stability. In addition, the established method is applied to the assessment of the HQ level in real water samples (mineral water, tap water and lake water) with the satisfactory results of spiked recoveries. The sensor may become a promising tool for the trace analysis of the electroactive substance in food or environmental samples.

Abstract
Natural phenolic compounds are abundant in the vegetable kingdom, occurring mainly as secondary metabolites in a wide variety of chemical structures. Around 10,000 different plant phenolic derivatives have been isolated and identified. This review provides an exhaustive overview concerning the electron transfer reactions in natural polyphenols, from the point of view of their in vitro antioxidant and/or pro-oxidant mode of action, as well as their identification in highly complex matrixes, for example, fruits, vegetables, wine, food supplements, relevant for food quality control, nutrition, and health research. The accurate assessment of polyphenols' redox behavior is essential, and the application of the electrochemical methods in routine quality control of natural products and foods, where the polyphenols antioxidant activity needs to be quantified in vitro, is of the utmost importance. The phenol moiety oxidation pathways and the effect of substituents and experimental conditions on their electrochemical behavior will be reviewed. The fundamental principles concerning the redox behavior of natural polyphenols, specifically flavonoids and other benzopyran derivatives, phenolic acids and ester derivatives, quinones, lignins, tannins, lignans, essential oils, stilbenes, curcuminoids, and chalcones, will be described. The final sections will focus on the electroanalysis of phenolic antioxidants in natural products and the electroanalytical evaluation of in vitro total antioxidant capacity.
