Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies related to the use of corrective feedback devices in cardiopulmonary resuscitation training, with different populations, training methodologies, and equipment, present distinct results regarding the influence of this technology. OBJECTIVE This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the impact of corrective feedback devices in cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills acquisition and retention for laypeople and health care professionals. Training duration was also studied. METHODS The search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus from January 2015 to December 2023. Eligible randomized controlled trials compared technology-based training incorporating corrective feedback with standard training. Outcomes of interest were the quality of chest compression-related components. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane tool. A meta-analysis was used to explore the heterogeneity of the selected studies. RESULTS In total, 20 studies were included. Overall, it was reported that corrective feedback devices used during training had a positive impact on both skills acquisition and retention. Medium to high heterogeneity was observed. CONCLUSIONS This systematic review and meta-analysis suggest that corrective feedback devices enhance skills acquisition and retention over time. Considering the medium to high heterogeneity observed, these findings should be interpreted with caution. More standardized, high-quality studies are needed. Abstract
BACKGROUND 17.9 million deaths worldwide were attributable to cardiovascular diseases. Basic life support is one of the crucial strategies that could increase chances of cardiac arrest victims' survival rate by nurses and other healthcare providers. AIM The aims of this study was to examine the retention of the BLS knowledge among nurses in Palestine. METHODS A descriptive cross-sectional design was used to collect data from 108 nurses between February 2022 and April 2022 from two AHA-ITCs in Palestine. The instrument consisted of two sections; demographics and knowledge test which was developed by the researcher and contain a written examination containing 25 multiple-choice questions. RESULTS Out of 160 distributed questionnaires, 108 were completed by nurses as a convenience sampling technique. Over half of the participants were male (54.6%), and the majority had a bachelor's degree in nursing (75%). Analysis identified that there was a significant difference (t (107) = 18.02, p < 0.001) and less knowledge score in the year 2022 (M = 65.48, SD = 15.42), compared to the year 2020 (M = 92.09, SD = 4.01). The mean knowledge reduction was 26.61 and P < 0.001. The results showed no statistically significant differences in terms of level of BLS knowledge in all sociodemographic, except the level of education. CONCLUSIONS The results of this study revealed weak retention of BLS knowledge among nurses in Palestine between the years 2020 and the year of 2022. Nurses must regularly participate in BLS training and attend frequent in-service CPR training at least every 6-months to decrease the likelihood of knowledge and skills loss over time. Blended learning BLS is one of the methods to retain more knowledge and skills of BLS.

Abstract
Background Healthcare providers must possess the necessary knowledge and skills to perform effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). In the event of cardiopulmonary arrest, basic life support (BLS) is the initial step in the life-saving process before the advanced CPR team arrives. BLS simulation training using manikins has become an essential teaching methodology in nursing education, enhancing newly employed nurses' knowledge and skills and empowering them to provide adequate resuscitation. Objective This study aimed to evaluate the potential effect of BLS simulation training on knowledge and practice scores among newly employed nurses in Jordanian government hospitals. Methods A total of 102 newly employed nurses were randomly assigned to two groups: the control group (n = 51) received standard training, and the experimental group (n = 51) received one full day of BLS simulation training. The training program used the American Heart Association (AHA)-BLS-2020 guidelines and integrated theoretical models such as Miller's Pyramid and Kolb's Cycle. Both groups were homogeneous in inclusion characteristics and pretest results. Knowledge and practice scores were assessed using 23 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Data were analyzed using one-way repeated measures ANOVA. Results The results indicated significant differences in knowledge scores, F(2, 182) = 58.514, p <0.001, and practice scores, F(2, 182) = 20.134, p <0.001, between the control and experimental groups at all measurement times: pretest, posttest 1, and posttest 2. Moreover, Cohen's d reflected the effectiveness of BLS simulation training as an educational module, showing a large effect (Cohen's d = 1.568) on participants' knowledge levels and a medium effect (Cohen's d = 0.749) on participants' practice levels. Conclusion The study concludes that BLS simulation training using the AHA-BLS-2020 guidelines and integrating theoretical models such as Miller's Pyramid and Kolb's Cycle significantly improves knowledge and practice scores among newly employed nurses, proving highly effective in enhancing their competencies in performing CPR. Implementing BLS simulation training in nursing education programs can significantly elevate the proficiency of newly employed nurses, ultimately improving patient outcomes during cardiopulmonary arrest situations. This training approach should be integrated into standard nursing curricula to ensure nurses are well-prepared for real-life emergencies. Trial Registry Number NCT06001879.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a smart training and assessment system called SmartCPR, for teaching and training cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), based on human posture estimation techniques. In this system, trainees can automatically recognize and evaluate whether chest compressions during CPR meet the standard of high-quality CPR by simply using a device such as a smart phone. Through the system, trainees are able to obtain real-time feedback on the quality of compressions so that they can adjust the cycle, depth, frequency, and posture of compressions to meet the standard of high-quality CPR. In addition, the SmartCPR system is convenient for CPR trainers. Trainers can instantly and accurately assess whether the trainee's compressions meet the standard of high-quality CPR, which reduces the risk of manual assessment errors and also reduces the trainer's teaching pressures. Therefore, the SmartCPR system developed in this study can be an important tool for CPR teaching and training for physicians, which can provide training and guidance for high-quality CPR maneuvers and enable trainees to become more proficient in CPR and self-training.

Abstract
AIMS Individual studies that investigated the effect of standalone audio-visual feedback (AVF) devices during laypersons' cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training have yielded conflicting results. This review aimed to evaluate the effect of standalone AVF devices on the quality of chest compressions during laypersons' CPR training. METHOD AND RESULT Randomized controlled trials of simulation studies recruiting participants without actual patient CPR experience were included. The intervention evaluated was the quality of chest compressions with standalone AVF devices vs. without AVF devices. Databases, such as PubMed, Cochrane Central, Embase, Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Web of Science, and PsycINFO, were searched from January 2010 to January 2022. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. A meta-analysis alongside a narrative synthesis was used for examining the effect of standalone AVF devices.Sixteen studies were selected for this systematic review. A meta-analysis revealed an increased compression depth of 2.22 mm [95% CI (Confidence Interval), 0.88-3.55, P = 0.001] when participants performed CPR using the feedback devices. Besides, AVF devices enabled laypersons to deliver compression rates closer to the recommended range of 100-120 per min. No improvement was noted in chest recoil and hand positioning when participants used standalone AVF devices. CONCLUSION The quality of the included studies was variable, and different standalone AVF devices were used. Standalone AVF devices were instrumental in guiding laypersons to deliver deeper compressions without compromising the quality of compression rates. However, the devices did not improve the quality of chest recoil and placement of the hands. REGISTRATION PROSPERO: CRD42020205754.

Abstract
(1) Background: The purposes of this study were to develop a physical fitness evaluation program for new firefighters, to investigate whether there is a quality difference in performing CPR for cardiac arrest patients according to physical strength, and to provide basic data to improve CPR quality. (2) Methods: The subjects of this study were fire trainees who were appointed as firefighters for the first time in G province from 3 March 2021 to 25 June 2021. The age of the subjects was 25-29 years old, and their experience of working as a firefighter was less than three months. According to the purposes of the study, the researcher composed the Physical Fitness Evaluation Program, including the physical fitness evaluation method and steps, and requested a content expert group to modify and supplement the 'physical fitness assessment program'. The subjects were divided into four groups according to their levels of physical strength, and CPR was performed for 50 min in groups of two. A high-end Resuscitation Anne Simulator (Laeadal, Norway) mannequin was used to evaluate the quality of CPR. (3) Results: When comparing the difference in CPR quality, there were statistically significant differences in the number of chest compressions and compression depth, but all groups met the CPR guidelines. In the case of this study, it is thought that high-quality CPR could be performed because the subjects' average age was low and they continued to exercise to improve their physical strength for their role. (4) Conclusions: It was concluded that the fitness level of new firefighters confirmed by this study was sufficient for general high-quality CPR. In addition, for high-quality CPR, continuous management is required by developing a continuous CPR education and physical training program for all firefighters.

Abstract
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) education for the public may improve bystander intention to perform CPR on cardiac arrest patients. Studies have shown that different CPR education intervention methods can improve learning performance, with key indicators including attitude toward to CPR, intention to perform CPR, and degree of CPR knowledge and skills. The present study compared the traditional face-to-face method to hybrid and virtual reality (VR) methods to observe difference in learning performance and length of performance retention. This study adopted randomized controlled trial to compare CPR learning performance between traditional face-to-face, hybrid, and VR methods. Participants from each intervention group completed a pretest and 2 posttests. The measurement tools included an attitude and intention questionnaire, knowledge examination, and skill examination with a RESUSCI ANNE QCPR ® manikin. The performance among all participants in pretest showed no significant difference between the intervention groups, indicating no difference in their background attitude, knowledge, and skill level. Significant differences were observed in the average degree of intention to perform CPR between the hybrid and traditional groups in 1st and 2nd posttest. Compared to the pretest results, the posttests revealed significantly higher attitude toward CPR, intention to perform CPR, knowledge examination results, accuracy of overall chest compression, accuracy of CPR procedure, accuracy of AED usage, accuracy of chest compression rate, and accuracy of chest compression depth. The average time to reattending CPR learning and practice session was 11-12 weeks reported by participants. The hybrid and VR methods to CPR education resulted in the same level of improvement in learning performance as traditional face-to-face teaching. The suggested frequency for renewing CPR knowledge and skills is 12 weeks which may be considered in new strategies aimed at promoting CPR education and exposure to the public.

Abstract
Background Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills may decay over time after conventional instructor-led BLS training. The Resuscitation Quality Improvement® (RQI®) program, unlike a conventional basic life support (BLS) course, is implemented through mastery learning and low-dose, high-frequency training strategies to improve CPR competence. We facilitated the RQI program to compare the performance of novices vs those with previous BLS training experience before RQI implementation and to obtain their confidence and attitude of the RQI program. Methods A single-center observational study was conducted from May 9, 2021 to June 25, 2021 in an emergency department of a tertiary hospital. The performance assessment data of both trainees with a previous training experience in conventional BLS course (BLS group) and the novice ones with no prior experience with any BLS training (Non-BLS group) was collected by RQI cart and other outcome variables were rated by online questionnaire. Outcome measurements included chest compression and ventilation in both adult-sized and infant-sized manikins. Results A total of 149 participants were enrolled. Among them, 103 participants were in BLS group and 46 participants in Non-BLS group. Post RQI training, all the trainees achieved a passing score of 75 or more, and obtained an improvement in CPR performance. The number of attempts to pass RQI for compression and ventilation practice was lower in the BLS group in both adult and infant training sessions (P < 0.05). Although the BLS group had a poor baseline, it had fewer trials and the same learning outcomes, and the BLS group had better self-confidence. Trainees were well adapted to the innovative training modality, and satisfaction among all of the participants was high. Only the respondents for non-instructor led training, the satisfaction was low in both groups (72.8% in BLS group vs 65.2% in No-BLS group, strongly agreed). Conclusion Among novices, RQI can provide excellent CPR core skills performance. But for those who had previous BLS training experience, it was able to enhance the efficiency of the skills training with less time consumption. Most trainees obtained good confidence and satisfaction with RQI program, which might be an option for the broad prevalence of BLS training in China.

Abstract
SUMMARY STATEMENT The optimal strategy for training cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for healthcare professionals remains to be determined. This scoping review aimed to describe the emerging evidence for CPR training for healthcare professionals.We screened 7605 abstracts and included 110 studies in this scoping review on CPR training for healthcare professionals. We assessed the included articles for evidence for the following topics: training duration, retraining intervals, e-learning, virtual reality/augmented reality/gamified learning, instructor-learner ratio, equipment and manikins, other aspects of contextual learning content, feedback devices, and feedback/debriefing. We found emerging evidence supporting the use of low-dose, high-frequency training with e-learning to achieve knowledge, feedback devices to perform high-quality chest compressions, and in situ team simulations with debriefings to improve the performance of provider teams.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To investigate current knowledge, attitudes, and practices for CPR quality control among emergency physicians in Chinese tertiary hospitals. METHODS Anonymous questionnaires were distributed to physicians in 75 tertiary hospitals in China between January and July 2018. RESULTS A total of 1405 respondents answered the survey without obvious logical errors. Only 54.4% respondents knew all criteria of high-quality CPR. A total of 91.0% of respondents considered CPR quality monitoring should be used, 72.4% knew the objective method for monitoring, and 63.2% always/often monitored CPR quality during actual resuscitation. The main problems during CPR were related to chest compression: low quality due to fatigue (67.3%), inappropriate depth (57.3%) and rate (54.1%). The use of recommended monitoring methods was reported as follows, ETCO2 was 42.7%, audio-visual feedback devices was 10.1%, coronary perfusion pressure was 17.9%, and invasive arterial pressure was 31.1%. A total of 96.3% of respondents considered it necessary to participate in regular CPR retraining, but 21.4% did not receive any retraining. The ideal retraining interval was considered to be 3 to 6 months, but the actual interval was 6 to 12 months. Only 49.7% of respondents reported that feedback devices were always/often used in CPR training. CONCLUSION Chinese emergency physicians were very concerned about CPR quality, but they did not fully understand the high-quality criteria and their impact on prognosis. CPR quality monitoring was not a routine procedure during actual resuscitation. The methods recommended in guidelines were rarely used in practice. Many physicians had not received retraining or received retraining at long intervals. Feedback devices were not commonly used in CPR training.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The study aimed to assess the impact of a modified paediatric basic life support (BLS) training on paediatric nurses' knowledge and skills in the main tertiary level public hospital in Rwanda. METHODS A prospective, before-and-after educational intervention study was performed. Nurses working in the paediatric department at Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Kigali (CHUK) were enrolled after consenting to the study. A modified BLS training was administered using didactic lectures, videos, case discussions, and simulations. Knowledge and skills were assessed before, immediately and six months after the training, using the American Heart Association (AHA) multiple-choice questions test and simulation scenarios. Ethical approval from the hospital's investigational review board was obtained before the start of the study. RESULTS Fifty-seven nurses working in paediatric department were included in the study, most with advanced nursing degrees. At baseline, only 3.5% scored above 80% on the knowledge test and none were able to perform high-quality one-rescuer CPR. Knowledge and high-quality one-rescuer CPR skills improved significantly immediately after the training, with 63.2% scoring above 80% and 63.2% capable of performing high-quality one-rescuer CPR (p < 0.01). Six months later, only 45.6% scored above 80% and 15.8% were capable of performing high-quality one-rescuer CPR (p < 0.01). Some skills, such as delivering breaths using bag-mask device, showed better retention. CONCLUSION In the paediatric department of the main public tertiary care hospital in Rwanda, nurses' baseline knowledge and skills in providing BLS was poor but can increase with focused BLS training. Due to the decline in knowledge and skills over six months, the use of debriefing and focused trainings following resuscitation events and improved implementation of yearly departmental refresher courses are recommended.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of the study was to compare the effect of synchronous online and face-to-face cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training on chest compressions quality in a manikin model. METHODS A total of 118 fourth-year medical students participated in this study. The participants were divided into two groups: the online synchronous teaching group and the face-to-face group. Then, the participants were further randomly distributed to 1 of 2 feedback groups: online synchronous teaching and training with feedback devices (TF, n = 30) or without feedback devices (TN, n = 29) and face-to-face teaching and training with feedback devices (FF, n = 30) or without feedback devices (FN, n = 29). In the FN group and FF group, instructors delivered a 45-min CPR training program and gave feedback and guidance during training on site. In the TN group and TF group, the participants were trained with an online lecture via Tencent Meeting live broadcasting. Finally, participants performed a 2-min continuous chest compression (CC) during a simulated cardiopulmonary arrest scene without the audiovisual feedback (AVF) device. The outcome measures included CC depth, CC rate, proportions of appropriate depth (50-60 mm) and CC rate (100-120/min), percentage of correct hand location position, and percentage of complete chest recoil. RESULTS There was little difference in the CC quality between the synchronous online training groups and the face-to-face training groups. There was no statistically significant difference in CC quality between the TN group and FN group. There were also no statistically significant differences between the TF and FF groups in terms of correct hand position, CC depth, appropriate CC depth, complete chest recoil or CC rate. However, the FF group had a higher appropriate CC rate than the TF group (p = 0.045). In the face-to-face training groups, the AVF device group had a significantly greater CC depth, appropriate CC depth, CC rate, and appropriate CC rate. However, there was a lack of statistically significant differences in terms of correct hand position (p = 0.191) and appropriate CC depth (p = 0.123). In the synchronous online training groups, the AVF device had little effect on the CC rate (p = 0.851) and increased the appropriate CC rate, but the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.178). CONCLUSIONS Synchronous online training with an AVF device would be a potential alternative approach to face-to-face chest compression training. Synchronous online training with AVF devices seems to be a suitable replacement for face-to-face training to offer adequate bystander CPR chest compression training.

Abstract
Studies report a decline in the psychomotor memory of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) providers within months of training, but they are prone to subject bias. We hypothesized that this degradation is faster and more prevalent in real world practice. The aims of our study were to 1. assess the quality of chest compressions (CC) delivered routinely by CPR-certified clinicians who are not primed by study conditions, and 2. investigate if psychomotor memory degrades if feedback devices are removed. Forty anaesthetists and intensivists participated in a voluntary, half-day, randomized crossover study using case-based simulation. Participants were paired and randomly assigned into 2 groups; each receiving automated feedback either in the first or second cycle of CPR. Two cycles of CC and defibrillation (ACLS protocol) were administered on a manikin. CC parameters including overall quality were measured by a feedback device. The median proportion of good quality CC was poor at baseline but improved with feedback; 38.2% (IQR 27.7, 58.7) to 57.7% (IQR 38.0, 68.7), P < .05. The median proportion of good quality CC fell after feedback withdrawal; 50.5% (IQR 24.5, 67.7) to 25.6% (9, 37.6), P < .05. No carryover effect was observed. Treatment effect and period effect were detected. Baseline quality of CC amongst frequent CPR providers is poor, and can be improved partly by feedback devices. As psychomotor memory of good quality CCs degrades rapidly after removal of feedback, a multimodal approach is required for CPR skill retention. Future research on the optimal frequency of CPR training, including the use of feedback devices in clinical practice should be explored.

Efficacy and cost-feasibility of the Timely Chest Compression Training (T-CCT): a contextualized cardiopulmonary resuscitation training for personal support workers participating during in-hospital cardiac arrests. Abstract
OBJECTIVES The Timely Chest Compression Training (T-CCT) was created to promote more frequent training in chest compressions for personal support workers. This study aims to assess the efficacy of the T-CCT on the chest compression performance and to examine costs related to this intervention. METHODS A prospective single group, before-after study was conducted at a university-affiliated hospital. The T-CCT is adapted for support workers and lasts 20 min during working hours. Guided by peer trainers, live feedback devices and mannikins, the T-CCT targets chest compression training. Using an algorithm, chest compression performance scores were gathered before and after the intervention. RESULTS Of 875 employed support workers, 573 were trained in 5 days. Prior to the intervention, the median performance score was 72%. Participants significantly improved after the intervention (p < 0.001) and the median of the differences was 32% (95% CI 28.5-36.0). Support workers in critical care units and those with an active basic life support (BLS) certification performed better at baseline and were less inclined to have large changes in performance scores after the intervention. When compared to basic life support training, the T-CCT is over three times less expensive. CONCLUSIONS The T-CCT was an effective and low-cost initiative that allowed to train a large group of support workers in a short amount of time. Since they are actively involved in resuscitation efforts in Quebec (Canada), it may promote the delivery of high-quality compressions during in-hospital cardiac arrests. Our inquiry can incite and guide other organizations in the implementation of similar interventions.

Furthermore, 4 scoping reviews and 7 evidence updates assessed any new evidence to determine if a change in any existing treatment recommendation was required. The topics covered included training for the treatment of opioid overdose; basic life support, including automated external defibrillator training; measuring implementation and performance in communities, and cardiac arrest centers; advanced life support training, including team and leadership training and rapid response teams; measuring cardiopulmonary resuscitation performance, feedback devices, and debriefing; and the use of social media to improve cardiopulmonary resuscitation application.
