Abstract
PURPOSES Some predictive markers of death have been reported for patients on the waiting list for lung transplantation (LTx). We assessed whether or not the preoperative psoas muscle index (PMI) correlates with waitlist mortality. METHODS In 81 patients with end-stage lung disease on the waiting list for LTx between 2011 and 2020 at Osaka University Hospital, we examined the association between baseline characteristics, including the diagnosis, respiratory function test results, blood collection items, steroid use, and psoas muscle mass on computed tomography, and survival during the waiting period using Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazard regression models. RESULTS Thirty-three patients (41%) died during follow-up. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that patients with a low PMI had a higher rate of death during follow-up than those with a high PMI (p < 0.0001 and 0.0002, respectively). In addition, a diagnosis of interstitial pneumonia (hazard ratio 3.30, 95% confidence interval 1.52-7.17, p = 0.0025) and low albumin level (hazard ratio 2.21, 95% confidence interval 1.02-4.80, p = 0.0449) were also significant predictors of survival. CONCLUSION A low PMI at registration is associated with a decreased survival time among LTx candidates and it may be a predictive factor of mortality in patients waiting for LTx.

Abstract
Objectives Cochlear implant (CI) infection is the most common complication after CI surgery. We investigated whether the preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) values could predict the CI infection and the NLR and PLR values obtained at the first admission to the hospital with an CI infection could help the clinician in the diagnosis. Methods This retrospective case-controlled study included 26 patients with postsurgical CI infection. To prevent age-related incompatibility in the blood analysis of the infected group, the patients were divided into three age groups: 0-4 years, 5-18 years, and over 18 years old. To compare the infected group, 29 patients who did not have implant infection after CI surgery and whose age ranges were compatible with the infected group were randomly selected from the hospital records as the control group. The infected group preimplantation (PREs) and postinfection (POSTi) NLR and PLR values were compared with each other and the control group values. The area under the curve, sensitivity, specificity, and cutoff values were calculated by ROC analysis. Results The POSTi NLR values of the infected group patients aged 0-4 years and over 18 years were significantly greater than the PREs NLR values (p = .038 and p = .008, respectively). Significant differences were found between the POSTi NLR values of the infected group patients aged 0-4 years and over 18 years and those of PREs in the control group (p = .011 and p = .015, respectively). Conclusions Preoperative NLR and PLR values cannot predict postoperative CI infection. However, NLR and PLR values increased significantly after CI infection, even if systemic symptoms did not occur. At the first admission to the hospital, NLR values can guide the clinician in diagnosing the CI infection in patients between 0 and 4 years and over 18 years.Trial Registration Clinical Trials.gov Identifier: NCT04120181.

Abstract
We aimed to investigate the long-term prognosis and prognostic factors of T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL) patients who received dose-adjusted Berlin–Frankfurt–Münster (BFM)-90 regimen as first-line therapy in our center. A total of 145 T-LBL patients who underwent first-line dose-adjusted BFM-90 was retrospectively reviewed. Conditional survival analysis was used to evaluate the long-term prognosis of patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was applied to determine the optimal cut-off value for neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). Estimated 3-year overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) rates for overall were 66.8% and 58.4%, respectively. Conditional survival analysis showed that for patients having survived 3 and 5 years or more after the completion of the treatment, the estimated subsequent 3-year OS thereafter increased to 85.7% and 94.3, respectively. Patients receiving consolidation APBSCT (Autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation) after BFM-90 regimen had superior 3-year OS than those with non-APBSCT (79.1% vs. 33.4%, p<0.001). We also discovered that baseline NLR ≥4.95 was negatively associated with OS (HR=2.75, 95% CI 1.55-4.89, p=0.015) and PFS (HR=2.07, 95% CI 1.25-4.96, p=0.021) via multivariable analysis. Conclusions: The survival probability of T-LBL patients treated with first-line dose-adjusted BFM-90 has improved significantly as patients have survived for every additional year. The addition of consolidation APBSCT following dose-adjusted BFM-90 therapy bring further survival benefits for those patients. Baseline NLR ≥4.95 was an independent risk factor for T-LBL patients in our study.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) level in children with cerebral palsy (CP) living at home or the rehabilitation center. The correlation of NLR with different severities of motor impairment was assessed. This was a single-center, cross-sectional, observational study. A total of 80 CP children who were either living at home (n=34) or at the rehabilitation center (n=46) were included. Demographic characteristics, anthropometric parameters and complete blood counts were recorded, and the NLR values were calculated. The severity of motor impairment was evaluated and categorized according to the Gross Motor Functional Classification System (GMFCS) level. The mean age of CP participants was 8.52±1.92 years. The percentage of children with CP who were malnourished (underweight, stunted and wasted) was higher amongst those at the rehabilitation center compared with those living at home. The mean NLR of children with CP in the rehabilitation center was significantly higher compared with the patients living at home (P=0.003). Participants from the rehabilitation center had severe motor impairment (GMFCS levels IV-V) and significantly higher NLR values than those with mild motor impairments (GMFCS levels II-III; P=0.006). However, there were no differences in NLR values in relation to severity of motor impairment in CP children living at home. CP children had some degree of neuroinflammation and systemic inflammation. NLR may be a potential simple inflammatory parameter that may be used to predict the severity of the motor impairment, particularly in CP children living at a rehabilitation center.
