Abstract
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), but whether the asthmatic patients are at increased risk for severe COVID-19 illness than non-asthmatic patients has remained unclear. This scoping review aimed to assess the available evidence to determine if asthmatic patients are at a higher risk for severe COVID-19 illness. Searching several electronic databases and adhering to the PRISMA guidelines, we conducted a scoping review of 70 articles and using defined inclusion-exclusion criteria, 21 articles were analyzed in-depth and included in this scoping review. The findings of this scoping review point to a lack of relationship between asthma and severe COVID-19 illness. While a limited number of studies (n = 4) identified asthma as a risk factor, most studies (n = 17) found no independent association between asthma and severe COVID-19 illness. We, thus, conclude that asthma may not be a potential risk factor for severe COVID-19 illness. Owing to limited evidence, we recommend large-scale prospective cohort studies with standardized methodologies to decipher potential role of asthma in COVID-19 severity. Further, understanding the impact of specific asthma medications, genetic factors, and other comorbidities on COVID-19 outcomes may help inform clinical practice guidelines for effective patient health management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study assesses the risk of severe clinical outcomes during hospitalizations of adults with asthma and/or COPD plus COVID-19 and compares those risks with those during hospitalizations of adults with asthma and/or COPD without COVID-19. METHODS We used data from 877 U.S. hospitals from the Premier Healthcare Database during March 2020-March 2021. Hospitalizations (n = 311,215) among patients aged ≥18 years with an ICD-10-CM diagnosis involving asthma or COPD were classified into three groups: adults with asthma (but not COPD), adults with COPD (but not asthma), and adults with both asthma and COPD. We used multivariable Poisson regression to assess associations of severe clinical outcomes [intensive care unit (ICU) admission, use of invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV), and death] and COVID-19 status. RESULTS The percentage of hospitalizations among patients with asthma and COVID-19 resulting in ICU admission, IMV, and death were 46.9%, 14.0%, and 8.0%, respectively. These risks were higher than those among patients with asthma without COVID-19 (adjusted risk ratio [aRR], 1.17 [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.14-1.21], 1.61 [95% CI, 1.50-1.73], and 5.56 [95% CI, 4.89-6.32]), respectively. Risks of ICU admission, IMV, and death were also high among patients with COPD and COVID-19 and exceeded the corresponding risks among patients with COPD without COVID-19. CONCLUSION Hospitalizations among patients with asthma and/or COPD with COVID-19 had a more severe clinical course than hospitalizations for asthma and/or COPD exacerbations without COVID-19. Abstract
ABSTRACT Bronchiectasis (BE) has been linked to past viral infections such as influenza, measles, or adenovirus. Two years ago, a new pandemic viral infection severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) broke out and it still persists today, and a significant proportion of surviving patients have radiological and clinical sequelae, including BE. Our aim was to thoroughly review the information available in the literature on the bidirectional relationship between SARS-CoV-2 infection and the development of BE, as well as the impact of this infection on patients already suffering from BE. Available information indicates that only a small percentage of patients in the acute phase of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia develop BE, although the latter is recognized as one of the radiological sequelae of COVID-19 pneumonia, especially when it is caused by traction. The severity of the initial pneumonia is the main risk factor for the development of future BE, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, exacerbations in BE patients were reduced by approximately 50%. Finally, the impact of BE on the prognosis of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia is not yet known.

Abstract
Background During follow-up, patients severely affected by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) requiring invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV), show symptoms of Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) such as cognitive impairment, psychological disability, and neuromuscular deconditioning. In COVID-19 pandemic, it is a priority to develop multidisciplinary post-acute care services to address the long-term multisystemic impact of COVID-19. Research question Which are the most relevant multisystemic sequelae in severe post-COVID-19 patients? Study design and methods Observational chart review study that included adult patients discharged from a referral hospital for respiratory diseases in Mexico after recovering from severe COVID-19 disease from December 23, 2020, to April 24, 2021. Data were collected from 280 of 612 potentially eligible patients to evaluate persistent symptoms and compare sequelae in patients who required intubation, using a standardized questionnaire of symptoms, in addition to findings reported during the face-to-face health assessment. Univariable and multivariate analyses were performed for the association among the requirement of IMV and the long-term persistence of symptoms. Results 280 patients were included. The median age was 55 (range, 19 to 86) years, and 152 (54.3%) were men. The mean length of hospital stay was 19 (SD, 14.1) days. During hospitalization 168 (60%) participants received IMV. A large proportion of these patients reported fatigue (38.7%), paresthesia (35.1%), dyspnea (32.7%) and headache (28%); meanwhile only 3 (1.8%) of them were asymptomatic. Patients who required intubation were more likely to have neuropsychiatric (67.3% vs 55.4%; OR, 1.79 [95% CI, 1.08 to 2.97]) and musculoskeletal involvement (38.7% vs. 25.9%; OR, 1.92 [95% CI, 1.12 to 3.27]), adjusted for age,sex and hospitalization time. Interpretation The proportion of patients requiring intubation was 60%, reporting persistent symptoms in 98% of them. Neuropsychiatric and musculoskeletal symptoms were the most predominant symptoms in these patients, with a significant difference. Post-COVID-19 syndrome is a frequent problem in patients who required IVM. Physicians in ICU and in care of COVID-19 patients should be aware of this syndrome in order to avoid more complications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Examination of postmortem findings can help establish effective therapeutic strategies to reduce mortality. The aim of this study was therefore to review complete autopsy cases and their postmortem findings and comorbidities associated with death caused by COVID-19, in order to establish a profile of the deceased and the likelihood of time to death. METHODS A systematic review was carried out following the recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses and meets Cochrane criteria recommendations (PROSPERO registration number CRD 42020209649). An electronic search in the databases Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Wiley Online Library, and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) was performed. RESULTS The search strategy yielded a total of 25 articles where 140 cases of complete autopsies were reported. The most prevalent comorbidity was vascular diseases. Patients with vascular disease, heart disease, and diabetes died significantly in a shorter period of time. Autopsies mainly focused on the lungs. The proliferative phase of Diffuse Alveolar Damage (DAD) was the most reported in the microscopic postmortem findings, and these patients died in a shorter period of time. However, individuals aged over 80 years significantly presented fibrotic phase of DAD at the time of death. The kidney was the second most affected organ with thrombosis and tubular damage, followed by the liver with congestion and necrosis. CONCLUSION Given that accurate information of complete autopsies findings is still scarce, it is necessary to perform complete autopsies by examining organs other than the lungs in order to provide information to improve new treatment strategies in patients with a high risk of mortality.

Abstract
Introduction Organ tropism of SARS-CoV-2 to the respiratory tract could potentially aggravate asthma. The susceptibility of patients with asthma to develop an exacerbation when they are infected with SARS-CoV-2 is unknown. We aimed to investigate the symptoms presented in patients with asthma who became infected with SARS-CoV-2. Methods and results All patients over 14 years of age who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 (by RT-PCR) were included (n = 2995). In patients with asthma (n = 77, 2.6%; 44 females), symptoms, therapy and phenotype were recorded. Seventeen (22%) patients had mild asthma, 55 (71%) moderate and five severe (6%). Twenty-six patients with asthma (34%) were asymptomatic, 34 (44%) developed symptoms but did not require hospital admission, and 17 (22%) were hospitalised. One patient was admitted because of asthma exacerbation without pneumonia or other symptoms. Ten patients (13%) had wheezes (six with pneumonia). Comparison of wheezing between patients with non-T2 asthma and the rest of the patients was statistically significant, (p < 0.001). Conclusions SARS-CoV-2 infection is not a significant cause of asthma exacerbation, although some patients may present wheezing, especially in cases of pneumonia. The severity of asthma does not seem to be associated with symptoms of the disease.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The prevalence of asthma in patients hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 has been studied and varies widely in the different series. However, the prevalence in SARS-infected patients not requiring hospitalization is not known. The objective of this study was to analyze the presence of asthma in a consecutive series of patients who tested positive in the RT-PCR assay for SARS-CoV-2 and did not require hospital admission. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 218 patients (58% of those who tested positive) did not require hospitalization; they had a median age of 45 years (IQR 34-57) and 57% were female. Six patients (2.8%) had a previous diagnosis of asthma. Only one patient developed a mild aggravation of asthma symptoms associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. CONCLUSIONS Few patients with asthma were infected by SARS-CoV-2, and this infection was not a significant cause of asthma exacerbation.
