Abstract
Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica sv. Typhimurium str. LT2 (hereafter S. Typhimurium) synthesizes adenosylcobalamin (AdoCbl, CoB12) de novo only under anoxic conditions, but it can assemble the lower ligand loop (a.k.a. the nucleotide loop) and can form the unique C-Co bond present in CoB12 in the presence or absence of molecular oxygen. During studies of nucleotide loop assembly in S. Typhimurium, we noticed that the growth of this bacterium could be arrested by the lower ligand nucleobase, namely 5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole (DMB). Here we report in vitro and in vivo evidence that shows that the structural similarity of DMB to the isoalloxazine moiety of flavin cofactors causes its deleterious effect on cell growth. We studied DMB inhibition of the housekeeping flavin dehydrogenase (Fre) and three flavoenzymes that initiate the catabolism of tricarballylate, succinate or D-alanine in S. Typhimurium. Notably, while growth with tricarballylate was inhibited by 5-methyl-benzimidazole (5-Me-Bza) and DMB, growth with succinate or glycerol was arrested by DMB but not by 5-Me-Bza. Neither unsubstituted benzimidazole nor adenine inhibited growth of S. Typhimurium at DMB inhibitory concentrations. Whole genome sequencing analysis of spontaneous mutant strains that grew in the presence of inhibitory concentrations of DMB identified mutations effecting the cycA (encodes D-Ala/D-Ser transporter) and dctA (encodes dicarboxylate transporter) genes and in the coding sequence of the tricarballylate transporter (TcuC), suggesting that increased uptake of substrates relieved DMB inhibition. We discuss two possible mechanisms of inhibition by DMB.

Abstract
Imidazole derivatives have found wide application in organic and medicinal chemistry. In particular, benzimidazoles have proven biological activity as antiviral, antimicrobial, and antitumor agents. In this work, we experimentally and theoretically investigated N-Butyl-1H-benzimidazole. It has been shown that the presence of a butyl substituent in the N position does not significantly affect the conjugation and structural organization of benzimidazole. The optimized molecular parameters were performed by the DFT/B3LYP method with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. This level of theory shows excellent concurrence with the experimental data. The non-covalent interactions that existed within our compound N-Butyl-1H-benzimidazole were also analyzed by the AIM, RDG, ELF, and LOL topological methods. The color shades of the ELF and LOL maps confirm the presence of bonding and non-bonding electrons in N-Butyl-1H-benzimidazole. From DFT calculations, various methods such as molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), Fukui functions, Mulliken atomic charges, and frontier molecular orbital (HOMO-LUMO) were characterized. Furthermore, UV-Vis absorption and natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis were calculated. It is shown that the experimental and theoretical spectra of N-Butyl-1H-benzimidazole have a peak at 248 nm; in addition, the experimental spectrum has a peak near 295 nm. The NBO method shows that the delocalization of the aσ-electron from σ (C1-C2) is distributed into antibonding σ* (C1-C6), σ* (C1-N26), and σ* (C6-H11), which leads to stabilization energies of 4.63, 0.86, and 2.42 KJ/mol, respectively. Spectroscopic investigations of N-Butyl-1H-benzimidazole were carried out experimentally and theoretically to find FTIR vibrational spectra.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite several plausible biological mechanisms linking proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and H2 receptor antagonists (H2RAs) with colorectal tumorigenesis, their association with risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) has not been adequately assessed in prospective epidemiological studies. METHODS We evaluated the association of acid-suppressive medication use with CRC risk among 175,871 (PPI) and 208,831 (H2RA) participants from three large prospective cohort studies. Medication use was assessed at baseline and updated biennially. The association was evaluated using multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression models. RESULTS There was no significant association between baseline PPI use (hazard ratio (HR) = 0.89, 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.71-1.12) or PPI use after a lag of 8-10 years (HR = 1.12, 95% CI, 0.78-1.59) with CRC risk. We observed no significant association between H2RA use after a lag of 8-10 years and CRC risk (HR = 1.02, 95% CI, 0.81-1.28), while risk was lower for participants with baseline H2RA use (HR = 0.76, 95% CI, 0.60-0.95). Duration of PPI use or H2RA use was not associated with CRC risk (P-trend = 0.21 and 0.95, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Among participants from three large prospective cohorts, use of PPI or H2RA was not associated with higher risk of colorectal cancer.

Abstract
The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4,5-dimethyl-1H-imidazole 3-oxide have been investigated experimentally and theoretically. Gauge-including atomic orbital (1)H NMR chemical shifts calculations were carried out and compared with experimental data. The HOMO and LUMO analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The calculated geometrical parameters are in agreement with that of similar derivatives. Molecular electrostatic potential was performed by the DFT method. Mulliken's net charges have been calculated and compared with the atomic natural charges. First and second hyperpolarizability are calculated in order to find its role in non-linear optics. Molecular docking is also reported.

Abstract
The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of 2-(phenoxymethyl)benzimidazole have been investigated experimentally and theoretically using Gaussian09 software package. The energy and oscillator strength calculated by time dependent density functional theory results almost compliments with experimental findings. Gauge-including atomic orbital (1)H NMR chemical shifts calculations were carried out and compared with experimental data. The HOMO and LUMO analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. Molecular Electrostatic Potential was performed by the DFT method and the infrared intensities and Raman activities have also been reported. Mulliken's net charges have been calculated and compared with the atomic natural charges. First hyperpolarizability is calculated in order to find its role in non-linear optics.

Abstract
The title molecule, 2,6-bis(1-benzyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)pyridine (C(33)H(25)N(5)), was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopies, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In addition, the molecular geometry, vibrational frequencies and gauge-independent atomic orbital (GIAO) (1)H and (13)C NMR chemical shift values of the title compound in the ground state have been calculated using the density functional theory at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level, and compared with the experimental data. The complete assignments of all vibrational modes were performed by potential energy distributions using VEDA 4 program. The geometrical parameters of the optimized structure are in good agreement with the X-ray crystallographic data, and the theoretical vibrational frequencies and GIAO (1)H and (13)C NMR chemical shifts show good agreement with experimental values. Besides, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) distribution, frontier molecular orbitals (FMO) and non-linear optical properties of the title compound were investigated by theoretical calculations at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level. The linear polarizabilities and first hyper polarizabilities of the molecule indicate that the compound is a good candidate of nonlinear optical materials. The thermodynamic properties of the compound at different temperatures were calculated, revealing the correlations between standard heat capacity, standard entropy, standard enthalpy changes and temperatures.

Abstract
? novel manganese(II) coordination polymer, catena-(2- methylimidazolium
bis(?2-chloro)-aqua-chloromanganese(II)), {(C4H7N2)[MnCl3(H2O)]}n, was
synthesized, structurally characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and confirmed by
single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Thermogravimetric analysis and EPR
spectroscopy of the compound were also performed. The colourless crystals of
the complex were monoclinic, space group P21/c, with the cell parameters a =
11.298(2) ?, b = 7.2485(14) ?, c = 14.709(5) ?, ? = 128.861(18)?, V =
938.0(5) ?3, Z = 4 and R1 = 0.03. The title compound consisted of
onedimensional infinite anionic chains [MnCl3(H2O)]n and isolated 2-
methylimidazolium cations. The Mn(II) atom was octahedrally coordinated to
four bridging chloride anions [Mn-Cl = 2.5109(6) - 2.5688(7) ?], one terminal
chloride anion [Mn-Cl = 2.5068(11) ?] and a H2O molecule [Mn-O = 2.2351(17)
?]. A three-dimensional layer structure was constructed via hydrogen bonds
and by weak ?-? stacking interactions. A four-step thermal decomposition
occurred in the temperature range 25-900?C under nitrogen.

Abstract
The oral cavity has been proposed as a reservoir for H. pylori that could be responsible for the refractoriness of gastric infection to triple therapy (antibiotics, antimicrobials, and proton pump inhibitors). The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of combined periodontal and triple therapy vs. triple therapy alone, in gastric H. pylori eradication in persons with H. pylori in the subgingival biofilm. Individuals positive for H. pylori in their gastric and oral samples, as determined by nested PCR, were treated either with periodontal and triple therapy or with triple therapy alone. Our results indicate that 77.3% of those treated with the combined therapy exhibited successful eradication of gastric H. pylori, compared with 47.6% who underwent only triple therapy. Analysis of these data suggests that periodontal treatment in combination with systemic therapy could be a promising approach to increasing the therapy's efficacy and decreasing the risk of infection recurrence.
