Abstract
A novel electrocatalytic sensing strategy was built for uric acid (UA) determination with an exceptionally developed poly(tartrazine)-modified activated pencil graphite electrode (pTRT/aPGE) in human serum and artificial urine. The oxidation signal of UA at 275 mV in pH 7.5 phosphate buffer solution served as the analytical response. Cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize the sensing platform, which was able to detect 0.10 μM of UA in the ranges of 0.34-60 and 70-140 μM. The samples of human serum and artificial urine were analyzed by both the pTRT/aPGE and the uricase-modified screen-printed electrode. The results were statistically evaluated and compared with each other within the confidence level of 95%, and no significant difference between the results was found.

Abstract
This work describes the synthesis and characterization of a polymeric film of 3,5-diamino 1,2,4-triazole on a pencil graphite electrode for the selective sensing of pyridoxine (PY). The PGE was modified using the electropolymerization process by the potentiodynamic method. The polymerized electrode (PDAT/PGE) was characterized by IR, SEM, AFM, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. PY undergoes irreversible oxidation at 0.79 V on PDAT/PGE in phosphate buffer of pH 5. Using the differential pulse voltammetric technique (DPV), PY showed a linear range from 5 to 950 μM with a lower detection limit of 2.96 μM. The PDAT/PGE was applied for the analytical determination of PY in pharmaceutical tablets with good recovery. Abstract
Vitamins are essential compounds to yeasts, and notably in winemaking contexts. Vitamins are involved in numerous yeast metabolic pathways, including those of amino acids, fatty acids, and alcohols, which suggests their notable implication in fermentation courses, as well as in the development of aromatic compounds in wines. Although they are major components in the course of those microbial processes, their significance and impact have not been extensively studied in the context of winemaking and wine products, as most of the studies focusing on the subject in the past decades have relied on relatively insensitive and imprecise analytical methods. Therefore, this review provides an extensive overview of the current knowledge regarding the impacts of vitamins on grape must fermentations, wine-related yeast metabolisms, and requirements, as well as on the profile of wine sensory characteristics. We also highlight the methodologies and techniques developed over time to perform vitamin analysis in wines, and assess the importance of precisely defining the role played by vitamins in winemaking processes, to ensure finer control of the fermentation courses and product characteristics in a highly complex matrix.

Abstract
In this work, we synthesized carbon nanodots (CNDs) by a one-pot hydrothermal method to carbonize precursors of dry carnation petals and polyethylenimine. The obtained CNDs possess favorable photostability, good biocompatibility, and excellent water solubility, which can serve as a dual-responsive nanosensor for the determination of vitamin B2 (VB2) and pH. A unique ratiometric fluorescence resonance energy transfer probe was developed through a strong interaction between VB2 and surface moieties of CNDs. CNDs emitted at 470 nm; however, in the presence of VB2, an enhanced emission peak was clearly observed at 532 nm. The value of I532/I470 exhibits a stable response to the VB2 concentration from 0.35 to 35.9 μM with a detection limit of 37.2 nM, which has been used for VB2 detection in food and medicine samples and ratiometric imaging of VB2 in living cells with satisfying performance. In addition, the proposed CNDs also displayed pH-sensitive behavior and can be a turn-off fluorescent sensor to monitor pH. The fluorescent intensity at 470 nm is a good linear response against pH values from 3.6 to 8, affording the capability as a single-emissive nanoprobe for intracellular pH sensing.

Abstract
Modulation of chemical functional groups on conducting polymers (CPs) provides an effective way to tailor the physicochemical properties and electrochemical performance of CPs, as well as serves as a functional interface for stable integration of CPs with biomolecules for organic bioelectronics (OBEs). Herein, we introduced a facile approach to modulate the carboxylate functional groups on the PEDOT interface through a systematic evaluation on the effect of a series of carboxylate-containing molecules as counterion dopant integrated into the PEDOT backbone, including acetate as monocarboxylate (mono-COO-), malate as dicarboxylate (di-COO-), citrate as tricarboxylate (tri-COO-), and poly(acrylamide-co-acrylate) as polycarboxylate (poly-COO-) bearing different amounts of molecular carboxylate moieties to create tunable PEDOT:COO- interfaces with improved polymerization efficiency. We demonstrated the modulation of PEDOT:COO- interfaces with various granulated morphologies from 0.33 to 0.11 μm, tunable surface carboxylate densities from 0.56 to 3.6 μM cm-2, and with improved electrochemical kinetics and cycling stability. We further demonstrated the effective and stable coupling of an enzyme model lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) with the optimized PEDOT:poly-COO- interface via simple covalent chemistry to develop biofunctionalized PEDOT (Bio-PEDOT) as a lactate biosensor. The biosensing mechanism is driven by a sequential bioelectrochemical signal transduction between the bio-organic LDH and organic PEDOT toward the concept of all-polymer-based OBEs with a high sensitivity of 8.38 μA mM-1 cm-2 and good reproducibility. Moreover, we utilized the LDH-PEDOT biosensor for the detection of lactate in spiked serum samples with a high recovery value of 91-96% and relatively small RSD in the range of 2.1-3.1%. Our findings provide a new insight into the design and optimization of functional CPs, leading to the development of new OBEs for sensing, biosensing, bioengineering, and biofuel cell applications.

Abstract
Rapid quantification of microbial contamination in fruit juice is highly desired for food safety control. Yet, the complex sample matrix and the diversity of bacterial contaminants present a great challenge. Employing a laboratory-built nano-flow cytometer (nFCM), here we report the development of a label-free approach for the detection of bacteria population in fruit juice. The weak autofluorescence of bacterial cells was used as a hallmark for the identification of bacteria. The sample pretreatment protocol was optimized to reduce fluorescence background, lyse residual plant cells and debris, and attain a good recovery of bacteria from juice samples. It was demonstrated that the nFCM was able to enumerate individual bacteria of very weak autofluorescence, and a clear differentiation from residual juice particulates was achieved. For bacteria spiked in the orange juice, the recovery rate was around 95% and a linear correlation between nFCM analysis and plate counting was acquired in the range of 3 × 104 to 3 × 108 cfu/mL. The assay, including sample pretreatment and instrument analysis, can be accomplished within 1 h, which is far more efficient than plate counting. Using a 40 mL sample volume, the detection limit in apple juice was ∼102 cells/mL. The as-developed method was successfully applied to bacterial measurement of freshly made orange juice and apple juice purchased from grocery stores. We believe it could also have potential practical application in microbial control analysis of other juices and water.

Abstract
An electrogenerated Polyarginine modified carbon paste electrode (PAMCPE) was fabricated through a simple electropolymerization procedure. The devised electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). This electrode was utilized for electrocatalytic estimation of Riboflavin (RF) and its instantaneous resolution with ascorbic acid (AA) and folic acid (FA) in phosphate buffer solution (PBS) of pH 6.0 by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). It was observed to be a very responsive electrode for the electrochemical detection and quantification of RF. It was revealed that PAMCPE generates higher current response towards RF contrast to the bare carbon paste electrode (BCPE). Under optimized condition, the RF oxidation current values were linearly reliant on the RF concentration increment with a limit of detection (LOD) of 9.3·10-8 M using DPV. The stable PAMCPE was effectively applied for estimation of RF in B-complex pill and complex human blood serum samples.

Abstract
Vitamins are a class of essential nutrients in the body; thus, they play important roles in human health. The chemicals are involved in many physiological functions and both their lack and excess can put health at risk. Therefore, the establishment of methods for monitoring vitamin concentrations in different matrices is necessary. In this review, an updated overview of the main pretreatments and determination methods that have been used since 2010 is given. Ultrasonic assisted extraction, liquid–liquid extraction, solid phase extraction and dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction are the most common pretreatment methods, while the determination methods involve chromatography methods, electrophoretic methods, microbiological assays, immunoassays, biosensors and several other methods. Different pretreatments and determination methods are discussed.

Abstract
Dopamine (DA) is a monoamine neurotransmitter responsible for regulating a variety of vital life functions. In vivo detection of DA poses a challenge due to the low concentration and high speed of physiological signaling. Fast scan cyclic voltammetry at carbon fiber microelectrodes (CFEs) is an effective method to monitor real-time in vivo DA signaling, however the sensitivity is somewhat limited. Electrodeposition of poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT)/graphene oxide (GO) onto the CFE surface is shown to increase the sensitivity and lower the limit of detection for DA compared to bare CFEs. Thicker PEDOT/GO coatings demonstrate higher sensitivities for DA, but display the negative drawback of slow adsorption and electron transfer kinetics. The moderate thickness resulting from 25 s electrodeposition of PEDOT/GO produces the optimal electrode, exhibiting an 880% increase in sensitivity, a 50% decrease in limit of detection and minimally altered electrode kinetics. PEDOT/GO coated electrodes rapidly and robustly detect DA, both in solution and in the rat dorsal striatum. This increase in DA sensitivity is likely due to increasing the electrode surface area with a PEDOT/GO coating and improved adsorption of DA's oxidation product (DA-o-quinone). Increasing DA sensitivity without compromising electrode kinetics is expected to significantly improve our understanding of the DA function in vivo.

Abstract
The developed by us electrochemical device for vitamin B2 (VB2; riboflavin) determination, without preconcentration step, in real products exhibits high sensitivity, selectivity, stability and low detection limit compared to those described in the literature. The determination procedure was based on the monitoring of the reduction current signal of VB2 bound with dsDNA anchored to the electrode surface through intermediary - carboxyphenyl layer. The application of such intermediary layer formed during electroreduction of appropriate diazonium salt at CV peak potential guarantees high efficiency of hybridization process and thus fully available places for VB2 interaction. Moreover, such intermediary layer provides good electrical contact, what is very important in the case of electrochemical sensors. The analytical range of work of the proposed VB2 sensor was between 0.08-1µM (30-377μgL-1) of riboflavin concentration. The obtained detection (LOD) and quantification limits (LOQ) were 24±2 and 55±5μgL-1, respectively. The proposed VB2 detection method was used for determination of riboflavin content in commercially available dietary supplements and yolk of hen egg samples. The accuracy of the obtained data was proved using comparison with an independent method (HPLC FLD).

Abstract
A carbon paste electrode bulk was modified with MnO2 and investigated for use as an electrochemical sensor for riboflavin (vitamin B2) using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Riboflavin displays a well expressed oxidation peak at -0.15 V (versus Ag/AgCl) in solutions with a pH value of 2. Effects of pH value, pulse amplitude and pulse time were optimized by employing DPV. The signals obtained are linearly related to the concentrations of riboflavin in the range from 0.02 to 9 μM. Other features include a 15 nM detection limit, and good reproducibility (±3 %) and repeatability (±2 %). Interferences by common compounds were tested, and the method was successfully applied to the determination of riboflavin in pharmaceutical formulations where is gave recoveries in the range from 95 to 97 %. Graphical abstractManganese(IV) oxide was used as a modifier for the carbon paste electrode (MnO2/CPE) for improving its performance toward riboflavin oxidation. Cyclic voltammetry and differential voltammetry were used for characterization and determination of riboflavin, respectively.

Abstract
Conducting polymers possessing biorecognition elements are essential for developing electrical biosensors sensitive and specific to clinically relevant biomolecules. We developed a new 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) derivative bearing a zwitterionic phosphorylcholine group via a facile synthesis through the Michael-type addition thiol-ene "click" reaction for the detection of an acute-phase biomarker human C-reactive protein (CRP). The phosphorylcholine group, a major headgroup in phospholipid, which is the main constituent of plasma membrane, was also expected to resist nonspecific adsorption of other proteins at the electrode/solution interface. The biomimetic EDOT derivative was randomly copolymerized with EDOT, via an electropolymerization technique with a dopant sodium perchlorate, onto a glassy carbon electrode to make the synthesized polymer film both conductive and target-responsive. The conducting copolymer films were characterized by cyclic voltammetry, scanning electron microscopy, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The specific interaction of CRP with phosphorylcholine in a calcium-containing buffer solution was determined by differential pulse voltammetry, which measures the altered redox reaction between the indicators ferricyanide/ferrocyanide as a result of the binding event. The conducting polymer-based protein sensor achieved a limit of detection of 37 nM with a dynamic range of 10-160 nM, covering the dynamically changing CRP levels in circulation during the acute phase. The results will enable the development of metal-free, antibody-free, and low-impedance electrochemical biosensors for the screening of nonspecific biomarkers of inflammation and infection.
