Abstract
An electrochemical immunosensor based on the novel high efficiency catalytic cycle amplification strategy for the sensitive detection of cardiac troponin I (cTnI). With its variable valence metal elements and spiny yolk structure, the Cu2O/CuO@CeO2 nanohybrid exhibits high speed charge mobility and exceptional electrochemical performance. Notably, fluorite-like cubic crystal CeO2 shell would undergo redox reaction with Cu2O core, which successfully ensures the continuous recycling occurrence of "fresh" Cu (II)/Cu (I) and Ce (Ⅳ)/Ce (Ⅲ) pairs at the electrode interface. The "fresh" active sites continue to emerge constantly, resulting in a significant increase in the current signal. In light of the electrochemical characterization, the electron transfer pathway and catalytic cycle mechanism among CeO2, Cu2O and CuO were further discussed. The developed electrochemical immunosensor detected cTnI from 100 fg/mL to 100 ng/mL with a LOD of 15.85 fg/mL under optimal conditions. The analysis results indicate that the immunosensor would hold promise for broad application prospects in the biological detection for other biomarkers.

Abstract
Recently, high-entropy alloys have superior physicochemical properties as compared to conventional alloys for their glamorous "cocktail effect". Nevertheless, they are scarcely applied to electrochemical immunoassays until now. Herein, uniform PtRhMoCoFe high-entropy alloyed nanodendrites (HEANDs) were synthesized by a wet-chemical co-reduction method, where glucose and oleylamine behaved as the co-reducing agents. Then, a series of characterizations were conducted to illustrate the synergistic effect among multiple metals and fascinating structural characteristics of PtRhMoCoFe HEANDs. The obtained high-entropy alloy was adopted to build a electrochemical label-free biosensor for ultrasensitive bioassay of biomarker cTnI. In the optimized analytical system, the resultant sensor exhibited a dynamic linear range of 0.0001-200 ng mL-1 and a low detection limit of 0.0095 pg mL-1 (S/N = 3). Eventually, this sensing platform was further explored in serum samples with satisfied recovery (102.0 %). This research renders some constructive insights for synthesis of high-entropy alloys and their expanded applications in bioassays and bio-devices.

Abstract
The freshnessof the food is a major issue because spoiled food lacks critical nutrients for growth and could be harmful to human health if consumed directly. Nanomaterials are captivating due to their unique properties like large surface area, high selectivity, small dimension, great biocompatibility and conductivity, real-time onsite analysis, etc. which give them an advantage over conventional evaluation techniques. Despite these advantages of nanomaterials used in food safety and their preservation, food products can still get affected by various environmental factors (like pH, temperature, etc.), making the use of time-temperature indicators more condescending. This review is a comprehensive study on food safety, its causes, the responsible analytes, their remedies by various nanomaterials, the development of various nanosensors, and the various challenges faced in maintaining food safety standards to reduce the risk of contaminants.

Abstract
Electrochemical (EC) bio- and chemosensors are highly promising for on-chip and point-of-care testing (POST) devices. They can make a breakthrough in early cancer diagnosis. Most current EC sensors for cancer biomarkers' detection and determination use natural antibodies as recognition units. However, those quickly lose their biorecognition ability upon exposure to harsh environments, comprising extreme pH, humidity, temperature, etc. So-called "plastic antibodies," including aptamers and molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs), are hypothesized to be a smart alternative to antibodies. They have attracted the interest of the sensor research community, offering a low cost-to-performance ratio with high stability, an essential advantage toward their commercialization. Herein, we critically review recent technological advances in devising and fabricating EC bio- and chemosensors for cancer biomarkers, classifying them according to the type of recognition unit used into three categories, i.e., antibody-, aptamer-, and MIP-based EC sensors for cancer biomarkers. Each sensor fabrication strategy has been discussed, from the devising concept to cancer sensing applications, including using different innovative nanomaterials and signal transduction strategies. Moreover, employing each recognition unit in the EC sensing of cancer biomarkers has been critically compared in detail to enlighten each recognition unit's advantages, effectiveness, and limitations.

Abstract
In recent years, the demand for rapid, sensitive, and simple methods for diagnosing deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has grown due to the increase in the variation of infectious diseases. This work aimed to develop a flash signal amplification method coupled with electrochemical detection for polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-free tuberculosis (TB) molecular diagnosis. We exploited the slightly miscible properties of butanol and water to instantly concentrate a capture probe DNA, a single-stranded mismatch DNA, and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) to a small volume to reduce the diffusion and reaction time in the solution. In addition, the electrochemical signal was enhanced once two strands of DNA were hybridized and bound to the surface of the gold nanoparticle at an ultra-high density. To eliminate non-specific adsorption and identify mismatched DNA, the self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) and Muts proteins were sequentially modified on the working electrode. This sensitive and specific approach can detect as low as attomolar levels of DNA targets (18 aM) and is successfully applied to detecting tuberculosis-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in synovial fluid. More importantly, as this biosensing strategy can amplify the signal in only a few seconds, it possesses a great potential for point-of-care and molecular diagnosis applications.

Abstract
Cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen 21-1 (CYFRA21-1) is a protein fragment dissolved in the blood after apoptosis of lung epithelial cells, which is a predictive biomarker for the diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Detection of serum CYFRA21-1 has a significant clinical value in diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis of NSCLC. Herein, a novel electrochemical immunosensor was constructed for the sensitive detection of CYFRA21-1. First, superconductive carbon black (KB) functionalized polyethyleneimine (PEI)-gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were covered on the surface of methylene blue (MB) and used as substrate materials to immobilize the CYFRA21-1 antibody. Then, target CYFRA21-1 was successfully detected using an electrochemical immunosensor through specific recognition of antigen and antibody. The zirconium-based metal organic framework of PCN-222(Fe) with a large pore size and three-dimensional (3D) structure can absorb abundant AuNPs through strong electrostatic interaction, which enhances the conductive properties of PCN-222(Fe) and prevents the self-aggregation of AuNPs. However, PCN-222(Fe) with peroxidase-like activity can catalyze the generation of hydroxyl free radicals (˙OH) from H2O2, which oxidized MB, leading to a decrease in the current signal. The signal response to the degradation of MB was recorded using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). This indirect method of immunosensor offered a new strategy to address the limitations imposed by the poor conductivity of PCN-222(Fe), further enabling the amplification of the signal through the oxidative degradation of MB. Compared with traditional electrochemical immunosensors, this method has the advantages of a stable current signal and good reproducibility, providing a promising reference for the broad application of PCN-222(Fe) in electrochemical biosensors.

Abstract
Mulberry-like AuPtAg porous hollow nanorods (PHNR) were facilely synthesized for the first time via a wet chemical method, where Au nanorods (Au NR) behaved as sacrificed template. The anisotropic oriented growth and etching process are involved in this synthesis. Their structural and electronic characteristics were scrutinously examined by TEM, EDS, XPS, and electrochemical techniques. The AuPtAg PHNR provided a large specific surface area and exposed a large number of active sites, showing highly enhanced catalytic activity. On this foundation, a label-free electrochemical immunosensor was developed for myoglobin (Myo) assay based on the AuPtAg PHNR. Further, the built sensor exhibited fast and ultrasensitive responses in a linear range of 0.0001 ~ 1000 ng mL-1 with a low limit of detection (LOD = 0.46 pg mL-1, S/N = 3), and enabled efficient application to human serum samples with acceptable results. Consequently, the developed AuPtAg PHNR-based platform has a broad prospect in practically monitoring Myo and other biomarkers in clinics.

Abstract
A new ultrasensitive sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor has been successfully constructed to quantitatively detect carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) using blackberry-like mesoporous bismuth-based nanospheres NaBiOF (NBOF NSs) inlaid with Pt nanodots (NDs) (BiPt NSs) as the antibody capture and signal-amplifying probe. The growth of Pt NDs inside the holes of NBOF NSs formed the nanozyme inlay outside NBOF NSs, greatly increasing the specific surface area and exposure of the catalytic active sites by minimizing the particle size of the Pt to nanodot scale. Such a blackberry-shaped heterojunction structure of BiPt NSs was well-suited to antibody capture and improved the catalytic performance of BiPt NSs in reducing H2O2, amplifying the signal, and yielding highly sensitive detection of CEA. The use of Au nanoparticle-modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Au@MWCNTs) as the electrode substrates significantly enhanced the electron transfer behavior over the electrode surface, further increasing the conductivity and sensitivity of the immunosensor. Remarkably, good compatibility with human body fluid was achieved using the newly developed BiPt-based immunosensor resulting from the favorable biocompatibility and stability of both BiPt NSs and Au@MWCNTs. Benefiting from the double signal amplification strategy and the high biocompatibility, the immunosensor responded linearly to CEA in a wide range from 50 fg/mL to 100 ng/ml with an extremely low detection limit of 3.52 fg/mL (S/N = 3). The excellent detection properties of this new immunosensor were evidenced by the satisfactory selectivity, reproducibility, and stability obtained, as well as the reliable and precise determination of CEA in actual human blood samples. This work provides a new strategy for the early clinical diagnosis of cancer. Novel blackberry-like mesoporous NaBiOF nanospheres with Pt nanodot inlay were successfully usedto construct a sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor for the ultra-sensitive detection ofcarcinoembryonic antigen in human blood plasma based on a remarkable signal amplification strategy.

Abstract
In this work, a label-free electrochemical immunosensor based on popcorn-shaped PtCoCu nanoparticles supported on N- and B-codoped reduced graphene oxide (PtCoCu PNPs/NB-rGO) was constructed to sensitively detect concentration level of β-Amyloid1-42 oligomers (Aβ). The PtCoCu PNPs exhibits excellent catalytic ability due to its popcorn structure which improves the specific surface area and porosity, resulting in more active sites being exposed and fast transport paths for ion/electron. NB-rGO with large surface area and unique pleated structure could disperse PtCoCu PNPs through electrostatic adsorption and formation of d-p dative bonds between the metal ion and pyridinic N of NB-rGO. In addition, the doping of B atoms enhances the catalytic ability of GO enormously and achieves further signal amplification. Besides, both PtCoCu PNPs and NB-rGO are able to fix abundant antibodies through M(Pt, Co, Cu)-N bonds and amide bonds respectively without any other complex processing procedures such as carboxylation, ect. The designed platform achieved the dual amplification of electrocatalytic signal and effectively immobilization of antibodies. Under the optimum conditions, the designed electrochemical immunosensor presented wide linear rang (50.0 fg/mL ∼ 100 ng/mL) and low detection limits (3.5 fg/mL). The results demonstrated that the prepared immunosensor will be promising in sensitive detection of AD biomarkers.

Abstract
A method for detecting of Carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA) with improved accuracy is urgently needed. In this work, a dual-mode immunosensor for accurate detection of CEA was fabricated, which used a Cu-doped Mo2C co-catalyst as an enhancer. Especially, Cu-doped Mo2C presents a strong different pulse voltammetry (DPV) signal for the electron transfer between Cu2+ and Cu+, without the addition of K3[Fe(CN6)] and other electron transfer mediators, but also shows high electrocatalytic activity towards H2O2 redox reactions. So that detection sensitivity of the chronoamperometry (CA) was enhanced. Furthermore, characterized by excellent conductivity, highly ordered pore distribution and great surface area, Ti3C2 Mxenes can be effective in promoting electron transfer and loading a large number of AuNPs. In the meantime, AuNPs can also immobilize CEA-Ab1 through Au-N bonds. Based on a Cu-Mo2C-Au dual-signal indicator, Ti3C2 Mxene-Au as the matrix, the immunsosensor was developed to achieve dual-signal detection of CEA. Satisfactory detection ranges (1 fg.mL-1 to 40 ng.mL-1) were obtained with limits of detection of 0.33 fg.ml-1 (DPV) and 1.67 fg.ml-1 (CA), respectively. Therefore, the prepared electrochemical immunosensor has good application prospects for the detection of CEA.

Abstract
Electrochemical immunosensors have attracted immense attention due to the ease of mass electrode production and the high compatibility of the miniature electric reader, which is beneficial for developing point-of-care diagnostic devices. Electrochemical immunosensors can be divided into label-free and label-based sensing strategies equipped with potentiometric, amperometric, voltammetric, or impedimetric detectors. Emerging nanomaterials are frequently used on electrochemical immunosensors as a highly rough and conductive interface of the electrodes or on nanocarriers of immobilizing capture antibodies, electroactive mediators, or catalyzers. Adopting nanomaterials can increase immunosensor characteristics with lower detection limits and better sensitivity. Recent research has shown innovative immobilization procedures of nanomaterials which meet the requirements of different electrochemical immunosensors. This review discusses the past five years of advances in nanomaterials (metal nanoparticles, metal nanostructures, carbon nanotubes, and graphene) integrated into the electrochemical immunosensor. Furthermore, the new tendency and endeavors of nanomaterial-based electrochemical immunosensors are discussed.

Abstract
Technological advancements in the healthcare sector have pushed for improved sensors and devices for disease diagnosis and treatment. Recently, with the discovery of numerous biomarkers for various specific physiological conditions, early disease screening has become a possibility. Biomarkers are the body's early warning systems, which are indicators of a biological state that provides a standardized and precise way of evaluating the progression of disease or infection. Owing to the extremely low concentrations of various biomarkers in bodily fluids, signal amplification strategies have become crucial for the detection of biomarkers. Metal nanoparticles are commonly applied on 2D platforms to anchor antibodies and enhance the signals for electrochemical biomarker detection. In this context, this review will discuss the recent trends and advances in metal nanoparticle decorated 2D materials for electrochemical biomarker detection. The prospects, advantages, and limitations of this strategy also will be discussed in the concluding section of this review.

Abstract
Establishing an effective signal amplification strategy is the key to achieving sensitive detection of analytes by electrochemical immunoassay. In this work, a novel sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor with dual-signal amplification was successfully constructed using PtPd/Cu-TCPP(Fe) as the sensing platform and mesoporous silicon dioxide as the signal amplifier. Firstly, two-dimensional wrinkled Cu-TCPP(Fe) nanomaterials loaded with PtPd nanoparticles have strong affinity for the immobilization of capture antibodies and can generate excellent electrochemical signals. Meanwhile, the mesoporous silicon dioxide with large steric hindrance was used as signal label to further improve the sensitivity of the immunosensor by increasing the difference of the current response signal. Under optimal experimental conditions, the electrochemical immunosensor exhibited a wide linear detection range from 0.1 pg/mL to 1.0 μg/mL, with a detection limit as low as 0.166 fg/mL. The experimental results showed that the constructed immunosensor has a great application prospect in clinical biomarker detection.

Abstract
Gastric cancer (GC) is a common malignant tumour of the digestive tract with a high mortality rate worldwide. However, many patients delay treatment due to the avoidance of the costly and painful procedure of gastroscopy. Therefore, an early convenient screening method is essential to improve the survival rate of GC patients. To address this issue, we constructed an electrochemical immunosensor supported by rhombohedral Cu3Pt and MoS2 nanoflowers (MoS2 NFs) for rapid, painless and quantitative detection of the GC biomarker in vitro. Here, pepsinogen I was employed as a model protein biomarker to analyse the performance of the immunosensor. The rhombohedral dodecahedral Cu3Pt nanoparticles decorated with MoS2-NFs were further functionalized; this allowed the constructed sensor to possess more nano- or micro-structures, thereby improving the detection sensitivity. In specific applications, the corresponding bioactive molecules can be flexibly captured. Under optimal conditions, the immunoassay showed a wide linear range from 500 pg mL-1 to 400 ng mL-1 and a low detection limit of 167 pg mL-1 (S/N = 3). This covers the critical value of 70 ng mL-1, and the results obtained from the analysis of human serum samples were on par with those from the enzyme immunoassay, suggesting significant potential for this new method in daily diagnosis.

Abstract
The rapid spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) seriously threatened global public health. Establishing a rapid and sensitive diagnostic test for early detection of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein is urgently required to defend against the pandemic. Herein, an enhanced lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) was fabricated by trimetallic Au@Pd@Pt core-shell nanozymes for detection of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein. The Au@Pd@Pt nanozymes (Au@Pd@Pt NZs) synthesized via a one-pot method, with a dendrite morphology and uniform particle size, showed excellent peroxidase-like activity. Due to the perfect enzyme-like catalytic activity toward 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), the catalytic signal could be generated even by a tiny amount of Au@Pd@Pt NZs accumulated on the test strip. Therefore, rapid detection with higher sensitivity was achieved. The Au@Pd@Pt NZs-based LFIA provided a quantitative range of 0.05-100 ng mL-1 with a limit of detection of 0.037 ng mL-1, which was 17-fold lower than the LFIA without enhancement. The average recoveries from spiked samples were in the range of 92.5-107.9% with relative standard deviations all less than 4%, indicating the reliability and repeatability of the proposed LFIA. Additionally, the proposed LFIA could report results within 30 min using a microplate reader. In conclusion, the Au@Pd@Pt NZs-LFIA is a rapid, simple, and sensitive method for detecting the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein.

Abstract
To accomplish ultra-sensitive detection of alpha-fetoprotein(AFP), a novel electrochemical immunosensor using polydopamine-coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles (PDA@Fe3O4 NPs) as a smart label and polyaniline (PANI) and Au NPs as substrate materials has been created. The sensor has the following advantages over typical immunoassay technology: (1) The pH reaction causes PDA@Fe3O4 NPs to release Prussian blue (PB) prosoma while also destroying the secondary antibody label and immunological platform and lowering electrode impedance; (2) PB has a highly efficient catalytic effect on H2O2, allowing for the obvious amplification of electrical impulses; (3) PANI was electrodeposited on the electrode surface to avoid PB loss and signal leakage, which effectively absorbed and fixed PB while considerably increasing electron transmission efficiency. The sensor's detection limit was 0.254 pg·mL-1 (S/N = 3), with a detection range of 1 pg·mL-1 to 100 ng·mL-1. The sensor has a high level of selectivity, repeatability, and stability, and it is predicted to be utilized to detect AFP in real-world samples.

Abstract
Convenient and sensitive detection of tumors marked in serum samples is of great significance for the early diagnosis of cancers. Facile fabrication of reagentless electrochemical immunosensor with efficient sensing interface and high sensitivity is still a challenge. Herein, an electrochemical immunosensor was easily fabricated based on the easy fabrication of immunoassay interface with electron transfer wires, confined redox probes, and conveniently immobilized antibodies, which can achieve sensitive and reagentless determination of the tumor marker, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). Carboxyl multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were firstly modified with an electrochemical redox probe, methylene blue (MB), which has redox potentials distinguished from those of redox molecules commonly existing in biological samples (for example, ascorbic acid and uric acid). After the as-prepared MB-modified MWCNT (MWCNT-MB) was coated on the supporting glassy carbon electrode (GCE), the MWCNT-MB/GCE exhibited improved active area and electron transfer property. Polydopamine (PDA) was then in situ synthesized through simple self-polymerization of dopamine, which acts as the bio-linker to covalently immobilize the anti-CEA antibody (Ab). The developed immunosensor could be applied for electrochemical detection of CEA based on the decrease in the redox signal of MB after specific binding of CEA and immobilized Ab. The fabricated immunosensor can achieve sensitive determination of CEA ranging from 10 pg/ml to 100 ng/ml with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.6 pg/ml. Determination of CEA in human serum samples was also realized with high accuracy.

Abstract
A signal-on sandwich-like electrochemical immunosensor was built for determination of cytokeratin 19 fragments 21-1 (CYFRA 21-1) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by confining electroactive dye (e.g., methylene blue, MB) as a probe for amplifying signals. Specifically, core-shell gold@rhodium dendritic nanocrystals (Au@Rh DNCs) behaved as a substrate for primary antibody and accelerate interfacial electron transfer. Besides, hollow carbon spheres (HCSs) were subsequently modified with polydopamine (PDA) and PtPd nanoparticles for sequential integration of the secondary antibody and confinement of MB as a label, termed as MB/PtPd/PDA/HCSs for clarity. The built sensors showed a broad linear range (100 fg mL-1 ~ 100 ng mL-1) for detection of CYFRA 21-1 with an ultra-low detection limit (31.72 fg mL-1, S/N = 3), coupled with satisfactory performance in human serum samples. This work can be explored for assays of other proteins and provides some constructive insights for early and accurate diagnosis of NSCLC.

Abstract
Despite having the potential to synthesize stable metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), rare earth metal-based MOFs have not been exploited extensively. Owing to the high coordination numbers, the MOFs can generate a suitable coordination environment for various applications. Herein, samarium (Sm)-based MOFs were synthesized with three different organic linkers, namely, trimesic acid (TMA), meso-tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphine (TCPP), and 1,3,6,8-tetra(4-carboxylphenyl) pyrene(TBPy) by the solvothermal approach. The morphologies of Sm-TMA MOF, Sm-TCPP MOF, Sm-TBPy MOF were rod-shaped, cubic consisting of stacked 2D layers, and spherical made of small cubic structures, respectively. After the electrochemical properties of the synthesized MOFs were investigated, the MOFs were used to fabricate immunosensors for detection of carcinoembryonic antigen using a label-free signaling strategy. The immunosensors exhibited a wide linear detection range and a lower detection limit. The exhibited reproducibility and selectivity of the immunosensors were within the tolerable limits. The established label-free immunosensor has been successfully applied for detection of carcinoembryonic antigen in human serum samples, demonstrating that the rare earth metal-based MOFs are promising for construction of biosensors for medical diagnosis.

Abstract
Neuron-specific enolase (NSE) is a specific marker for small cell carcinoma (SCLC). Sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensors are powerful for biomarker analysis, and the electrocatalytic activity of the signal amplification platform and the performance of the substrate are critical to their sensitivity. In this work, N atom-doped graphene functionalized with hollow porous Pt-skin Ag-Pt alloy (HP-Ag/Pt/NGR) was designed as a dual signal amplifier. The hollow porous Pt skin structure improves the atomic utilization and the larger internal cavity spacing significantly increases the number of electroactive centers, thus exhibiting more extraordinary electrocatalytic activity and durability for H2O2 reduction. Using NGR with good catalytic activity as the support material of HP-Ag/Pt, the double amplification of the current signal is realized. For the substrate, polypyrrole-poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PPy-PEDOT) nanotubes were synthesized by a novel chemical polymerization route, which effectively increased the interfacial electron transfer rate. By coupling Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) with PPy-PEDOT, the immune activity of biomolecules is maintained and the conductivity is further enhanced. Under optimal conditions, the linear range was 50 fg mL-1 - 100 ng mL-1, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 18.5 fg mL-1. The results confirm that the developed immunosensor has great promise for the early clinical diagnosis of SCLC.

Abstract
The use of nanoprobes in sensors is a popular way to amplify their analytical performance. Coupled with two-dimensional nanomaterials, nanoprobes have been widely used to construct fluorescence, electrochemical, electrochemiluminescence (ECL), colorimetric, surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensors for target molecules' detection due to their extraordinary signal amplification effect. The MoS2 nanosheet is an emerging layered nanomaterial with excellent chemical and physical properties, which has been considered as an ideal supporting substrate to design nanoprobes for the construction of sensors. Herein, the development and application of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)-based nanoprobes is reviewed. First, the preparation principle of MoS2-based nanoprobes was introduced. Second, the sensing application of MoS2-based nanoprobes was summarized. Finally, the prospect and challenge of MoS2-based nanoprobes in future were discussed.

Abstract
Heterometallic nanomaterials (HMNMs) display superior physicochemical properties and stability to monometallic counterparts, accompanied by wider applications in the fields of catalysis, sensing, imaging, and therapy due to synergistic effects between multi-metals in HMNMs. So far, most reviews have mainly concentrated on introduction of their preparation approaches, morphology control and applications in catalysis, assay of heavy metal ions, and antimicrobial activity. Therefore, it is very important to summarize the latest investigations of activity modulation of HMNMs and their recent applications in sensing, imaging and therapy. Taking the above into consideration, we briefly underline appealing chemical/physical properties of HMNMs chiefly tailored through the sizes, shapes, compositions, structures and surface modification. Then, we particularly emphasize their widespread applications in sensing of targets (e.g. metal ions, small molecules, proteins, nucleic acids, and cancer cells), imaging (frequently involving photoluminescence, fluorescence, Raman, electrochemiluminescence, magnetic resonance, X-ray computed tomography, photoacoustic imaging, etc.), and therapy (e.g. radiotherapy, chemotherapy, photothermal therapy, photodynamic therapy, and chemodynamic therapy). Finally, we present an outlook on their forthcoming directions. This timely review would be of great significance for attracting researchers from different disciplines in developing novel HMNMs. Heterometallic nanomaterials display wide applications in the fields of catalysis, sensing, imaging and therapy due to synergistic effects between the multi-metals.![]()

Abstract
At present, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is considered a broad-spectrum cancer biomarker, and its accurate analysis in clinical samples can assist early cancer diagnosis and treatment. Herein, a novel electrochemical aptasensor has been proposed for CEA detection based on exonuclease III and hybrid chain reaction. The target CEA specifically binds to the aptamer region in hairpin probe 1 (defined as H1) by strong attraction, which leads the rest of the H1 triggering catalytic hairpin assembly to form a high quantity of H1 and hairpin probe 2 (defined as H2) double chain complex (denoted as H1@H2). Subsequently, the exonuclease III digests the complex of H1@H2 and liberates H1 to induce the first signal amplification. Simultaneously, a large number of generated trigger chains initiate a hybrid chain reaction and produce a second signal amplification. This proposed sensor exhibited excellent analytical performance for the detection of CEA, with wide linear range from 10 pg.mL-1 to 100 ng.mL-1 and low limit of detection of 0.84 pg.mL-1. Additionally, the biosensing strategy was successfully verified for direct measurement of CEA in human serum. Therefore, this elaborated sensor provides a new simple method for detecting CEA and exhibits great promise in the early screening of cancer.

Abstract
Carcinoembryonic antigen levels in the human body reflect the conditions associated with a variety of tumors and can be used for the identification, development, monitoring, and prognosis of lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and breast cancer. In this study, an amperometric immunosensor with CuCo/carbon nanocubes (CuCo/CNC) as the signal label is constructed. The bimetal-doped carbon skeleton structure has a high specific surface area and exhibits good electrocatalytic activity. In addition, Au/g-C3N4 nanosheets (Au/g-C3N4 NSs) are used to modify the substrate platform, facilitating the loading of more capture antibodies. The reaction mechanism was explored through electrochemical methods, X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and other methods. Kinetic studies have shown that CuCo/CNC have good peroxidase-like activity. In addition, the electrocatalytic reduction ability of CuCo/CNC on hydrogen peroxide can be monitored using amperometric i-t curve (- 0.2 V, vs. SCE), and the response current value is positively correlated with the CEA antigen concentration. The prepared electrochemical immunosensor has good selectivity, precision, and stability. The dynamic range of the sensor was 0.0001-80 ng/mL, and the detection limit was 0.031 pg/mL. In addition, the recovery and relative standard deviation in real serum samples were 97.7-103 % and 3.25-4.13 %, respectively. The results show that the sensor has good analytical capabilities and can provide a new method for the clinical monitoring of CEA.

Abstract
Molybdenum is a trace dietary element necessary for the survival of humans. Some molybdenum-bearing enzymes are involved in key metabolic activities in the human body (such as xanthine oxidase, aldehyde oxidase and sulfite oxidase). Many molybdenum-based compounds have been widely used in biomedical research. Especially, MoS2-nanomaterials have attracted more attention in cancer diagnosis and treatment recently because of their unique physical and chemical properties. MoS2 can adsorb various biomolecules and drug molecules via covalent or non-covalent interactions because it is easy to modify and possess a high specific surface area, improving its tumor targeting and colloidal stability, as well as accuracy and sensitivity for detecting specific biomarkers. At the same time, in the near-infrared (NIR) window, MoS2 has excellent optical absorption and prominent photothermal conversion efficiency, which can achieve NIR-based phototherapy and NIR-responsive controlled drug-release. Significantly, the modified MoS2-nanocomposite can specifically respond to the tumor microenvironment, leading to drug accumulation in the tumor site increased, reducing its side effects on non-cancerous tissues, and improved therapeutic effect. In this review, we introduced the latest developments of MoS2-nanocomposites in cancer diagnosis and therapy, mainly focusing on biosensors, bioimaging, chemotherapy, phototherapy, microwave hyperthermia, and combination therapy. Furthermore, we also discuss the current challenges and prospects of MoS2-nanocomposites in cancer treatment.

Abstract
In this study, we used inexpensive and synthetically simple electrocatalysts as replacements for conventional precious metal materials to reduce hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). We for the first time developed N-doped graphene-coated CuFe@MoC using one-step calcination of binary Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) with Mo6+ cationic grafting precursors. The synergistic interaction of CuFe PBA and MoC increased the catalytically active sites for H2O2 reduction. The catalyst was optimized in terms of the ratio of CuFe PBA to Mo6+, PVP content, and calcination temperature to improve its catalytic activity. When it was used to construct an electrochemical immunosensor for carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) detection, polydopamine (CuFe-MoC@NG@PDA) was coated on its outer surface to increase the antibody loading and MoS2-Au NPs were used as substrates to improve Ab1 immobilization and accelerate electron transfer at the electrode interface, thereby improving the response signal of the immunosensor. Its concentration was linearly related to the response signal from 10 fg mL-1 to 80 ng mL-1, and the lowest limit of detection was 3 fg mL-1. In addition, the immunosensor has acceptable selectivity and high stability. All data indicate that nanocomposites have electrocatalytic applications.

Abstract
A new type of ultrasensitive electrochemical immunosensor with "signal on" strategy was designed for quantitative detection of CEA. The sensing strategy design is based on the following principles: We use HMSNs-Cu2+@HA as the signal probe, the structure of HA is destroyed under acidic conditions, and the released Cu2+ activates the substrate material MMoO4 (M = Co, Ni) Peroxidase activity initiates the reaction of catalytic H2O2 and realizes the "signal on" condition of electrical signals. This strategy has the following advantages: (1) HA coating of HMSNs-Cu2+ can prevent Cu2+ leakage, has good biocompatibility and can be connected with more antibodies. (2) The prepared sensor has the characteristics of high sensitivity and a low detection limit. When the electrode substrate was CoMoO4, the detection range of the immunosensor was 0.01 pg/mL-40 ng/mL, and the detection limit was 0.0035 pg/mL (S/N = 3). This work innovatively applies the catalytic activity of metal ion-activated nanozymes in the detection of CEA, providing a new perspective for the monitoring and analysis of cancer markers.

Abstract
Great efforts have been made to search for highly active catalysts toward electrochemical water splitting, but double-signal immunosensors have not been reported based on bifunctional water splitting electrocatalysts. We report here a dual-signal electrochemical immunosensor for detecting carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) using multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)-cobalt phosphide (CoP) as an electrocatalytic label. The preparation of MWCNTs-CoP involves the growth of Co3O4 nanoparticles on MWCNTs and low-temperature phosphatization of Co3O4 nanoparticles. The MWCNTs-CoP catalyst shows excellent electrocatalytic activities in a neutral medium toward both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER), enabling MWCNTs-CoP as the electrocatalytic label for sensitive immunosensing. The linear range of the sandwich-type immunosensor for detecting CEA based on the HER signal is from 10-4-100 ng mL-1, whereas a linear range for detecting CEA based on the OER signal is achieved from 10-4 to 10 ng mL-1. The detection limits for detecting CEA using HER and OER signals are 10 and 12 fg mL-1, respectively. This work can provide a new double-signal immunosensing platform based on a bifunctional water splitting electrocatalyst.

Abstract
The content of cardiac troponin I (CTnI) in human blood is the key factor in judging acute myocardial infarction (AMI). In order to detect the content of CTnI, we constructed a sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor based on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as a signal source. Dendritic platinum-copper alloy nanoparticles (DPCN) loaded on molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets (DPCN/MoS2) as secondary antibodies (Ab2) label provided signal amplification. The hollow three-dimensional (3D) pyramid-shaped structure of DPCN exposed abundant active sites and exhibited excellent catalytic properties. MoS2 nanosheets with flower-like structure and a larger specific surface area can effectively load more DPCN. The combination of MoS2 and DPCN enhanced the catalytic performance of DPCN/MoS2 towards H2O2 reduction and realized signal amplification. For the substrate material, the two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic framework (Co-BDC, 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate is abbreviated as BDC) was hybridized with MoS2 nanosheets to load gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). The obtained Au/Co-BDC/MoS2 had low catalytic activity and excellent electrical conductivity, which was used to load primary antibodies (Ab1) to effectively enhance the sensitivity. Under the best conditions, we constructed the immunosensor with the detection range of 10 fg/mL to 100 ng/mL and the limit of detection (LOD) of 3.02 fg/mL. At the same time, the content of CTnI in human serum was tested with satisfactory results. Therefore, the constructed immunosensor has important significance in the sensitive and accurate detection of CTnI and early diagnosis of AMI.

Abstract
Broad-spectrum antibodies can effectively recognize substances with similar structures and have broad application prospects in field rapid detection. In this study, broad-spectrum antibodies (Abs) against organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) were used as sensitive recognition elements, which could effectively recognize most OPs. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have good biocompatibility. It combined with Abs to form a gold-labeled probe (AuNPs-Abs), which enhances the effective binding of antibodies to nanomaterials. Prussian blue (PB) was added to electrodeposition solution to enhance the conductivity, resulting in superior electrochemical performance. The AuNP-Abs-PB composite film was prepared by electrodeposition on the electrode surface to improve the anti-interference ability and stability of the immunosensor. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the immunosensor had a wide detection range (IC20-IC80: 1.82 × 10-3-3.29 × 104 ng/mL) and high sensitivity. Most importantly, it was simple to be prepared and could be used to detect multiple OPs.

Abstract
The research field of glucose biosensing has shown remarkable growth and development since the first reported enzyme electrode in 1962. Extensive research on various immobilization methods and the improvement of electron transfer efficiency between the enzyme and the electrode have led to the development of various sensing platforms that have been constantly evolving with the invention of advanced nanostructures and their nano-composites. Examples of such nanomaterials or composites include gold nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, carbon/graphene quantum dots and chitosan hydrogel composites, all of which have been exploited due to their contributions as components of a biosensor either for improving the immobilization process or for their electrocatalytic activity towards glucose. This review aims to summarize the evolution of the biosensing aspect of these glucose sensors in terms of the various generations and recent trends based on the use of applied nanostructures for glucose detection in the presence and absence of the enzyme. We describe the history of these biosensors based on commercialized systems, improvements in the understanding of the surface science for enhanced electron transfer, the various sensing platforms developed in the presence of the nanomaterials and their performances.
