Abstract
Gray bismuth chloride nanosheets with a highly enhanced electric field intensity were prepared by a simple and efficient method. Their energy gap is reduced to 2.35 eV. The prepared nanosheets show high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of rhodamine B under visible light. The resulting samples were characterized by X-ray diffractometry, high-resolution scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, specific surface area analysis, electrochemical analysis, electron paramagnetic resonance, and UV-vis spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of prepared BiOCl was evaluated by the degradation of RhB. The prepared BiOCl sample (0.5 g/L) could completely degrade RhB (10 mg/L) within 10 min, and its visible photocatalytic activity was 80 times that of the original white BiOCl. Superoxide radicals were the main active substance involved in organic degradation.

Abstract
Self-cleaning surface has attracted much attention in the field of photocatalytic degradation of NO due to its dirt pickup resistance and self-cleaning effect under the action of rainwater. In this review, the factors affecting NO degradation efficiency were analyzed in terms of photocatalyst characteristics and environmental conditions combined with the photocatalytic degradation mechanism. The feasibility of photocatalytic degradation of NO on superhydrophilic, superhydrophobic and superamphiphobic surfaces was discussed. Furthermore, the effect of special surface characteristics of self-cleaning on photocatalytic NO was highlighted and the improvement of the long-term effect using three self-cleaning surfaces on photocatalytic NO was evaluated and summarized. Finally, the conclusion and outlook were proposed related to the self-cleaning surface for photocatalytic degradation of NO. In future research, the comprehensive effects of the characteristics of photocatalytic materials, self-cleaning characteristics and environmental factors on the photocatalytic degradation of NO and the actual application effects of such self-cleaning photocatalytic surfaces should be further clarified in combination with the engineering. It is believed that this review can provide some theoretical basis and support for the development of self-cleaning surfaces in the field of photocatalytic degradation of NO.

Application of BiOX Photocatalyst to Activate Peroxydisulfate Ion-Investigation of a Combined Process for the Removal of Organic Pollutants from Water. Catalysts 2023. Abstract
The persulfate-based advanced oxidation processes employing heterogeneous photocatalysts to generate sulfate radicals (SO4•−) from peroxydisulfate ion (PDS, S2O82−) have been extensively investigated to remove organic pollutants. In this work, BiOX (X = Cl, Br, and I) photocatalysts were investigated to activate PDS and enhance the transformation rate of various organic substances under UV (398 nm) and Vis (400–700 nm) radiation. For BiOCl and BiOBr, in addition to excitability, the light-induced oxygen vacancies are decisive in the activity. Although without organic substances, the BiOI efficiency highly exceeds that of BiOBr and BiOCl for PDS activation (for BiOI, 15–20%, while for BiOBr and BiOCl, only 3–4% of the PDS transformed); each BiOX catalyst showed enhanced activity for 1,4-hydroquinone (HQ) transformation due to the semiquinone radical-initiated PDS activation. For sulfamethoxypyridazine (SMP), the transformation is driven by direct charge transfer, and the effect of PDS was less manifested. BiOI proved efficient for transforming various organic substances even under Vis radiation. The efficiency was enhanced by PDS addition (HQ is wholly transformed within 20 min, and SMP conversion increased from 40% to 90%) without damaging the catalyst; its activity did change over three consecutive cycles. Results related to the well-adsorbed trimethoprim (TRIM) and application of biologically treated domestic wastewater as a matrix highlighted the limiting factors of the method and visible light active photocatalyst, BiOI.

Abstract
The binding between water components (dissolved organic matters, anions and cations) and pharmaceuticals influences the migration and transformation of pollutants. Herein, the impact of water matrices on drug degradation, as well as the electrical energy demands during UV, UV/catalysts, UV/O3, UV/H2O2-based, UV/persulfate and UV/chlorine processes were systemically evaluated. The enhancement effects of water constituents are due to the powerful reactive species formation, the recombination reduction of electrons and holes of catalyst and the catalyst regeneration; the inhibition results from the light attenuation, quenching effects of the excited states of target pollutants and reactive species, the stable complexations generation and the catalyst deactivation. The transformation pathways of the same pollutant in various AOPs have high similarities. At the same time, each oxidant also can act as a special nucleophile or electrophile, depending on the functional groups of the target compound. The electrical energy per order (EEO) of drugs degradation may follow the order of EEOUV > EEOUV/catalyst > EEOUV/H2O2 > EEOUV/PS > EEOUV/chlorine or EEOUV/O3. Meanwhile, it is crucial to balance the cost-benefit assessment and toxic by-products formation, and the comparison of the contaminant degradation pathways and productions in the presence of different water matrices is still lacking.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of novel graphene oxide coupled to TiO2 (GO-TiO2) was carried out in order to better understand the performance of this photocatalyst, when compared to well-known TiO2 (P25) from Degussa. Thus, its physical-chemical characterization (FTIR, XRD, N2 isotherms and electrochemical measurements) describes high porosity, suitable charge and high electron mobility, which enhance pollutant degradation. In addition, the importance of the reactor set up was highlighted, testing the effect of both the irradiated area and distance between lamp and bulb solution. Under optimal conditions, the model drug methylthioninium chloride (MC) was degraded and several parameters were assessed, such as the water matrix and the catalyst reutilization, a possibility given the addition of H2O2. The results in terms of energy consumption compete with those attained for the treatment of this model pollutant, opening a path for further research.

Abstract
According to social demands, the agri-food industry must elaborate convenient safe and healthy foods rich in phytochemicals while minimising processing inputs like energy consumption. Young plants in their first stages of development represent great potential. Objective: This review summarises the latest scientific findings concerning the use of UV and visible spectrum LED lighting as green, sustainable, and low-cost technologies to improve the quality of sprouts, microgreens, and baby leaves to enhance their health-promoting compounds, focusing on their mode of action while reducing costs and energy. Results: These technologies applied during growing and/or after harvesting were able to improve physiological and morphological development of sprouted seeds while increasing their bioactive compound content without compromising safety and other quality attributes. The novelty is to summarise the main findings published in a comprehensive review, including the mode of action, and remarking on the possibility of its postharvest application where the literature is still scarce. Conclusions: Illumination with UV and/or different regions of the visible spectrum during growing and shelf life are good abiotic elicitors of the production of phytochemicals in young plants, mainly through the activation of specific photoreceptors and ROS production. However, we still need to understand the mechanistic responses and their dependence on the illumination conditions.

Abstract
The comparison of the efficiency of the commercially available photocatalysts, TiO2 and ZnO, irradiated with 365 nm and 398 nm light, is presented for the removal of two antibiotics, sulfamethazine (SMT) and sulfamethoxypyridazine (SMP). The •OH formation rate was compared using coumarin, and higher efficiency was proved for TiO2 than ZnO, while for 1,4-benzoquinone in O2-free suspensions, the higher contribution of the photogenerated electrons to the conversion was observed for ZnO than TiO2, especially at 398 nm irradiation. An extremely fast transformation and high quantum yield of SMP in the TiO2/LED398nm process were observed. The transformation was fast in both O2 containing and O2-free suspensions and takes place via desulfonation, while in other cases, mainly hydroxylated products form. The effect of reaction parameters (methanol, dissolved O2 content, HCO3- and Cl-) confirmed that a quite rarely observed energy transfer between the excited state P25 and SMP might be responsible for this unique behavior. In our opinion, these results highlight that "non-conventional" mechanisms could occur even in the case of the well-known TiO2 photocatalyst, and the effect of wavelength is also worth investigating.
