Abstract
In this work, a sustainable 3D carbon aerogel (AO-WPC) is prepared from waste paper (WP), and used for efficient antibiotics removal from water. The AO-WPC aerogel shows good mechanical property and can recover after 100th of 30 % compression strain. The specific surface area of AO-WPC aerogel is up to 654.58 m2/g. More importantly, this aerogel reveals proper pore size distribution, including micro sized macropores between carbon fibers and intrinsic nano scale mesopores (11.86 nm), which is conducive to remove antibiotics from water. Taking tetracycline (Tc) as an example, the maximum adsorption capacity and adsorption rate of AO-WPC for Tc are as high as 384.6 mg/g and 0.510 g/(mg‧min), respectively, which exhibits significant advantages over most of the recent absorbents, and the adsorption toward Tc reveals good resistance to various environmental factors, including pH, various ions, and dissolved organic matter (DOM). Moreover, good thermal stability enables the AO-WPC aerogel to be regenerated through simple burning, and the adsorption capacity of Tc only decreases by 10.4 % after 10 cycles. Mechanism research shows that hydrogen bonding and π-π electron-donor-acceptor (EDA) interaction play the important role in the adsorption. The excellent mechanical property and adsorption performance imply good practical prospect of the AO-WPC aerogel.

Abstract
ZnO-Cu2O composites were made as photocatalysts in a range of different amounts using an easy, cheap, and environment-friendly coprecipitation method due to their superior visible light activity to remove pollutants from the surrounding atmosphere. X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) have demonstrated that ZnO-Cu2O catalysts are made of highly pure hexagonal ZnO and cubic Cu2O. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy has confirmed that there is a substantial interaction between the two phases of the resultant catalyst. The optical characterizations of the synthesized ZnO-Cu2O composite were done via UV-vis reflectance spectroscopy. Due to the doping on ZnO, the absorption range of the ZnO-Cu2O catalyst is shifted from the ultraviolet to the visible region due to diffuse reflection. The degradation efficiency is affected by the Ratio of ZnO: Cu2O and ZnO-Cu2O composite with a proportion of 90:10 exhibited the most prominent photocatalytic activity on Acid Red 114, with a pseudo-first-order rate constant of 0.05032 min-1 that was 6 and 11 times greater than those of ZnO and Cu2O, respectively. The maximum degradation efficiency is 97 %. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of the composite is caused by the synergistic interaction of ZnO and Cu2O, which improves visible light absorption by lowering band gap energy and decreasing the rate at which the electron-hole pairs recombine. The scavenging experiment confirmed that hydroxyl radical was the dominant species for the photodegradation of Acid Red 114. Notably, the recycling test demonstrated the ZnO-Cu2O photocatalyst was highly stable and recyclable. These results suggest that the ZnO-Cu2O mix might be able to clean up environmental pollutants when it meets visible light.

Abstract
The pollution of tetracycline (TC) had attracted more and more attention due to its unprecedented use and potential hazards. The S-scheme BiOI/BiOIO3 p-n heterojunction was successfully fabricated by in-situ solvothermal treatment of BiOIO3, and was used for the removal of TC from aqueous solutions. The results demonstrated that the construction of S-scheme p-n heterojunction could significantly improve the removal of TC by photocatalytic adsorption/degradation synergism. The removal rate of TC was significantly enhanced after solvothermal modification. The three main reasons for the enhanced removal efficiency were as follows: first, the light absorption range of the BiOIO3 was enhanced by solvothermal treatment; secondly, the construction of the heterojunction was beneficial to the valid separation and migration of the photo-generated carriers; finally, the adsorption of TC enhanced the speed of TC reaching the semiconductor interface and reacting with active species. Trapping tests were conducted to reveal that •O2- and 1O2 are the main reactive species for TC degradation. The nine degradation products were identified by the high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS), and the three reaction pathways were deduced. A possible S-scheme p-n heterojunction photocatalytic mechanism was presented on the basis of band structures and active species capturing experiment.

Abstract
The exploration of highly efficient sunlight-assisted photocatalyst for photodegradation of organic contaminants or energy conversion is strongly encouraged. In this work, we designed a novel three-dimensional spindle-like Sv-ZIS@NMFe heterojunction made of amino functionalized NH2-MIL-88B(Fe) (NMFe) and ZnIn2S4 nanosheets with abundant sulfur vacancies (Sv-ZIS). The structural properties of NMFe materials, such as a clearly defined system of pores and cavities, were retained by the Sv-ZIS@NMFe composites. Additionally, the incorporation of sulfur vacancies, -NH2 functional groups, and well-matched energy level positions led to various synergistic effects that considerably enhanced internal electron transformation and migration, as well as improved adsorption performance. Consequently, under visible light irradiation, the optimized sample exhibited superior hydrogen production activity and tetracycline hydrochloride photodegradation performance. At last, density functional theory calculations was used to further elucidated the possible photoreactivity mechanism. This study demonstrates that the Sv-ZIS@NMFe heterojunction materials formed by ZnIn2S4 with suitable sulfur vacancies and amino functionalized Fe-MOFs have promising applications in photocatalysis.

The ortho-substituent effect regulating the separation of photogenerated carriers to efficiently photodegrade tetracycline on the surface of FeCo-based MOFs. CHEMOSPHERE 2024; 352:141296. Abstract
It is feasible to improve the photodegradation efficiency of organic pollutants by metal-organic frameworks (MOF)-based semiconductors via ligand engineering. In this work, three (Fe/Co)-XBDC-based MOFs were synthesized by introducing different ortho-functional groups X (X = -H, -NO2, -NH2) next to the carboxyl group of the organic ligand (i.e., terephthalic acid). The analysis focused on the influence mechanism of the adjacent functional group effect of the ligand on the physicochemical properties of the material and the actual photodegradation activity of TC. Multiple pieces of evidences suggested that the differences in electron-induced and photocharge-transfer mechanisms of the above ortho functional groups affect the crystal morphology and photocatalytic activity of FeCo-MOF during pyrolysis. Interestingly, (Fe/Co)-NH2BDC exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity under neutral conditions. The results of density functional theory show that the introduction of a strong donor-NH2 group can enhance light absorption and act as an "electron pump" to supply electrons to the iron center, accelerating the separation and efficient transport of photogenerated carriers on the ligand-metal bridge. In conclusion, this study is a proposal for a strategy of structural regulation for the enhancement of the catalytic activity of (Fe/Co)-MOFs in the photodegradation of TC.

Abstract
La(OH)3/g-C3N4 composites were successfully synthesized via one-step calcination using urea, melamine, and La(NO3)3·nH2O as raw materials, and applied to UV-induced photocatalytic tetracycline (TC) removal. Comprehensive characterization by an X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared reflection (FT-IR), high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), and other techniques analyzed effects of La3+ doping, especially N vacancies and cyano groups as active sites. Compared to pure g-C3N4 and La(OH)3, synthesized La(OH)3/g-C3N4 composites exhibited a three-dimensional porous nanosheet structure with specific surface area of 83.62 m2/g and equilibrium TC adsorption capacity up to 285.59 mg/g; La(OH)3 doping significantly improved composite structure. After dispersing 10 mg La-CN-0.5 photocatalyst in 60 mL 40 mg/L TC solution, TC removal reached 91.08% in 30 min under UV irradiation, exhibiting excellent performance. Additionally, La-CN-0.5 showed significant adsorption-photocatalytic synergism, with the quasi-primary kinetic constant increased by 1.83-fold. The efficiency of high tetracycline (TC) concentration treatment through adsorption photocatalytic degradation by La-CN-0.5 was confirmed by the utilization of free radical trapping and electron spin resonance (ESR) tests. The significant involvement of ∙O2-, ∙OH, and h+ in this process was observed. These findings propose that the prepared La-CN-0.5 material exhibits a unique capability for adsorption photocatalysis, providing a promising approach for the efficient removal of high TC concentrations.

Abstract
The increasing contamination of water systems by antibiotics and heavy metals has become a growing concern. The intimately coupled photocatalysis and biodegradation (ICPB) approach offers a promising strategy for the effective removal of mixed pollutants. Despite some prior research on ICPB applications, the mechanism by which ICPB eliminates mixed pollutants remains unclear. In our current study, the ICPB approach achieved approximately 1.53 times the degradation rate of ciprofloxacin (CIP) and roughly 1.82 times the reduction rate of Cr (VI) compared to photocatalysis. Remarkably, after 30 days, the ICPB achieved a 96.1% CIP removal rate, and a 97.8% reduction in Cr (VI). Our investigation utilized three-dimensional fluorescence analysis and photo-electrochemical characterization to unveil the synergistic effects of photocatalysis and biodegradation in removal of CIP and Cr (VI). Incorporation of B-Bi3O4Cl (B-BOC) photocatalyst facilitated electron-hole separation, leading to production of ·O2-, ·OH, and h+ species which interacted with CIP, while electrons reduced Cr (VI). Subsequently, the photocatalytic products were biodegraded by a protective biofilm. Furthermore, we observed that CIP, acting as an electron donor, promoted the reduction of Cr (VI). The microbial communities revealed that the number of bacteria favoring pollutant removal increased during ICPB operation, leading to a significant enhancement in performance.

Abstract
Diclofenac (DCF) is frequently detected in water bodies (ng/L to g/L) as it is not completely removed by conventional wastewater treatment plants. Adsorption and photocatalysis have been studied as promising methods for treating DCF; however, both processes have limitations. Thus, in this study, the removal efficiency of DCF is evaluated using a magnetite/reduced graphene oxide (Fe3O4/RGO) nanocomposite via a coupled adsorption-catalysis process. The Fe3O4/RGO nanocomposite was successfully synthesized using a microwave-assisted solvothermal method and exhibited a bandgap of 2.60 eV. The kinetic data best fitted the Elovich model (R2 = 0.994, χ2 = 0.29), indicating rapid adsorption. The maximum DCF adsorption capacity calculated using the Langmuir model was 80.33 mg/g. An ultraviolet C (UVC) light source and 0.1 g/L of Fe3O4/RGO nanocomposite were the optimum conditions for the removal of DCF (C0 = 30 mM) by a coupled adsorption-photocatalysis process (first-order rate constant (k) = 0.088/min), which was greater than the single adsorption (k = 0.029/min) and pre-adsorption and post-photocatalysis (k = 0.053/min) processes. This indicates that the adsorbed DCF did not hamper the photocatalytic reaction of the Fe3O4/RGO nanocomposite, but rather enhanced the coupled adsorption-photocatalytic reaction. DCF removal efficiency was higher at acidic conditions (pH 4.3-5.0), because high H+ promotes the generation of certain reactive oxygen species (ROS) and increases of electrostatic interaction. The presence of NaCl and CaCl2 (10 mM) did not notably affect the total DCF removal efficiency; however, Ca2+ affected the initial DCF adsorption affinity. Scavenger experiments demonstrated O2∙- and h+ play a key ROS than ·OH to degrade DCF. The acute toxicity of DCF towards Aliivibrio fischeri gradually decreased with increasing treatment time.

Abstract
With an increased need of wastewater treatment, application of photocatalysts has drawn growing research attention as an advanced water remediation strategy. Herein, a floating photocatalytic fabric in a woven construction was developed for removal of Rhodamine B (RhB) in water. For an efficient photocatalytic reaction, AgI nanoparticles were grown on the surface of UiO-66-NH2 crystals in a layered structure, forming a heterojunction system on a cotton yarn, and this was woven with polypropylene yarn. The floating photocatalyst demonstrated the maximized light utilization and adequate contact with contaminated water. Through the heterojunction system, the electrons and holes were effectively separated to generate reactive chemical species, and this eventually led to an enhanced photocatalytic performance of AgI/UiO@fabric reaching 98% removal efficiency after 2 hours of irradiation. Photodegradation of RhB occurred mainly by superoxide radicals and holes, which were responsible for de-ethylation and decomposition of an aromatic ring, respectively. The kinetics of the photocatalytic reaction suggested that circulation of solution by stirring affected the photocatalytic removal rate. The recycle test demonstrated the potential long-term applicability of the developed material with structural integrity and catalytic stability. This study highlights the proof-of-concept of a floating photocatalytic material for facile and effective water remediation with repeated usability.

Abstract
This paper explores the application of cross-linked cellulose beads as a sustainable and cost-effective support for the ZnO/SnO2/carbon xerogel hybrid photocatalyst. The application of the developed photocatalytic beads, named CB-Cat, was directed at a simultaneous adsorption/photocatalysis process, which was carried out under simulated sunlight. The characterization of the CB-Cat indicated a good dispersion of the photocatalyst of choice throughout the cellulose matrix, confirming its incorporation into the cellulose beads. Furthermore, it is possible to observe the presence of the photocatalyst on the surface of the CB-Cat, confirming its availability for the photonic activation process. The results showed that the simultaneous adsorption/photocatalysis process was optimal for enhancing the efficiency of methylene blue (MB) removal, especially when compared to the isolated adsorption process. Additionally, the regeneration of the CB-Cat between cycles was favorable toward the maintenance of the MB removal efficiency, as the process carried out without regeneration displayed significant efficiency drops between cycles. Finally, the mechanism evaluation evidenced that hydroxyl and superoxide radicals were the main responsible for the MB photocatalytic degradation during illumination with simulated sunlight.

Abstract
In this work, a hybrid was synthesized by hydrothermal treatment, metal-organic framework functionalized with hydrochar (MIL-53(Al)@HC) for the adsorption of two organic molecules Ibuprofen sodium salt and Metsulfuron-methyl, in binary system. The hybrid is composed of 71 wt% biomass and 29 wt% MOF. TGA, BET, FTIR, XRD and XPS characterization techniques were used to verify the hybridization of MIL-53(Al)@HC. The MIL-53(Al)@HC hybrid showed in situ MIL-53(Al) crystal growth capability. Batch adsorption experiments were carried out to study the effect of pH, adsorbent dosage, adsorbate concentration, contact time and temperature effect. The results obtained under extreme conditions demonstrate that MIL-53(Al)@HC is an adsorbent capable of removing >98% of IBU and MTM in mixture at a concentration of 0.3 mM (68 ppm IBU and 115 ppm MTM). The pseudo-second order model adequately described the adsorption kinetics and equilibrium using the Sips and Freundlich models. The physico-statistical microscopic model (2-layer) corroborated the hypothesis of a multilayer adsorption proposed by the macroscopic Freundlich model. In the competition study between IBU and MTM, both antagonistic and synergistic effects were observed. In the thermodynamic study, positive values of (ΔH°) indicate that adsorption is endothermic in nature and that the dominant mechanism is physisorption. A mechanism of adsorption by hydrogen bridging and non-covalent π*-π adsorbate-adsorbate and adsorbate-adsorbate-adsorbate interactions was proposed. The desorption study shows that in 5 washing cycles MIL-53(Al)@HC is a recoverable material.

Abstract
The production of aluminum (Al) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) by electrosynthesis using solid-state Al electrodes always faces significant challenges due to the formation of a passivating aluminum oxide layer in the process. Here, we developed a liquid-metal-based method to electrosynthesize an aluminum Al-MOF (MIL-53). This method uses a liquid-state gallium (Ga) anode as a reservoir and activator for a light metal, Al, in the form of Al-Ga alloys that releases Al3+ for the electrosynthesis of Al-MOFs. Introducing Ga into the system inhibits the formation of aluminum oxide passivation layer and promotes the electrochemical reaction for Al-MOF synthesis. The electrosynthesis using liquid Al-Ga alloy is conducted at ambient temperatures for long durations without requiring pretreatment for aluminum oxide removal. We show that the Al-MOF products synthesized from 0.40 wt % Al in liquid Ga lead to the highest crystallinity and possess a specific surface area greater than 800 m2 g-1 and a low capacity for CO2 adsorption that can be used as a potential matrix for CO2/N2 separation. This work provides evidence that employing liquid-metal electrodes offers a viable pathway to circumvent surface passivation effects that inevitably occur when using conventional solid metals. It also introduces an efficient electrosynthesis method based on liquid metals for producing atomically porous materials.

Abstract
Quinolone antibiotics are emerging environmental contaminants, which cause serious harm to the ecological environment and human health. How to effectively remove these emerging pollutants from water remains a major challenge worldwide. In this study, a novel Fe/Ti biochar composite (Fe/Ti-MBC) was prepared by facile one-step co-pyrolysis of wood chips with hematite and titanium dioxide (TiO2) for adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin (CIP) and norfloxacin (NOR) in water. The results showed that the degradation efficiencies of Fe/Ti-MBC to CIP and NOR were 88.4% and 88.0%, respectively. The π-π interactions and polar interactions are the main adsorption mechanisms for CIP and NOR. In the photocatalytic process, h+ and ·OH are the main active substances for the oxidative degradation of CIP and NOR. This study shows that Fe/Ti-MBC is an effective and recyclable composite, providing a novel alternative way for antibiotics degradation.

Abstract
Carbon-based Materials have been extensively researched for their prospect in the fields of environment and energy, especially for graphene oxide (GO). In this work, a novel sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-assisted synthesis of BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO ternary composite has been synthesized successfully by a handy hydrothermal method. Photoluminescence, Photocurrent, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, surface photovoltage and transient photovoltage measurements illustrate that construction of p-n BiOBr/Bi2WO6 heterojunction leads to the obviously enhancement of charge separation efficiency, and the photogenerated electrons trapped by GO can effectively inhibit the recombination process of photogenerated charge, resulting in the improvement of charge separation efficiency and the longer lifetime of photogenerated carriers for BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO. The characterization of structure and morphology indicate that role of GO can also improve the visible light absorption range, and the SDS-assisted synthesis can reduce the size of particle in the composite and enhances the specific surface area of the composite by regulating the particle size and agglomeration. Under optimal conditions, BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO (SDS) has the outstanding photocatalytic degradation performance and the degradation rate constants for oxytetracycline, tetracycline hydrochloride, methylene blue and rhodamine are 0.056, 0.057, 0.103 and 0.414 min-1, respectively. Notably, the degradation rate constants obtained by BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO (SDS) are more ten times higher than that of pure BiOBr and Bi2WO6. The possible mechanism of photocatalytic degradation was suggested for BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO based on the dynamic properties of photogenerated charge and reactive oxidation species results. Surprisingly, the recyclability of the BiOBr/Bi2WO6/GO (SDS) composite obtained from the cyclic experiments has laid a foundation for the study of efficient and stable photocatalysts.

Abstract
Metal-organic frames (MOFs) have been recognized as one of the best candidates in the remediation of aqueous contaminants, while the fragile powder shape restricts the practical implementation. In this work, a shapeable, rebuildable, and multifunctional MOF composite (MIL-53@CF) was prepared from MIL-53 (Fe) and cellulose fiber (CF) using a simple ultrasonic method for adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater. The results showed MIL-53(Fe) crystals were uniformly growth on CF surfaces and bonded with surface nanofibrils of CF through physical crosslinking and hydrogen bonding. Because of the high bonding strength, the MIL-53@CF composite exhibited an excellent compressive strength (3.53 MPa). More importantly, the MIL-53@CF composite was rebuildable through mechanical destruction followed by re-ultrasonication, suggesting the excellent reusability of MIL-53@CF for water remediation. The MIL-53@CF composite also had high adsorption capacities for methyl orange (884.6 mg·g-1), methylene blue (198.3 mg·g-1), and tetracycline (106.4 mg·g-1). MIL-53@CF composite could degrade TC through photocatalysis. The photocatalytic degradation mechanism was attributed to the Fe(II)/Fe(III) transform cycle reaction of MIL-53 crystal located on MIL-53@CF. Furthermore, the mechanical property and remoldability of MIL-53@CF composite increased its practicability. Comprehensively, MIL-53@CF composite provided a possible strategy to practically apply MOF in the remediation of aqueous contaminants.

Abstract
In this paper, the physicochemical properties, surface charge, and crystal defects of MIL-88A (Al) were controlled by adjusting the ratio of metal ligands and temperature in the synthetic system without the addition of surfactants. The adsorption properties of different crystals for Congo red (CR) were studied. Among them, MIL-88A (Al)-130 and MIL-88A (Al)-d have the best adsorption properties. The maximum adsorption capacities are 600.8 and 1167 mg · g-1, respectively. Compared with MIL-88A (Al)-130, the adsorption performance of MIL-88A (Al)-d was increased by 94.2%, and the adsorption rate was increased by about 4 times. It can be seen that increasing the proportion of metal ligands within a certain range will improve the adsorption capacity. The structure and morphology of the adsorbent were characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDS, TGA, BET, and zeta potential. The effects of time, temperature, pH, initial solution concentration, and dosage on CR adsorption properties were systematically discussed. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isothermal model can well describe the adsorption process, which indicates that the adsorption process is a single-layer chemisorption occurring on a uniform surface. According to thermodynamics, this adsorption is an endothermic process. The mechanism of CR removal is proposed as the electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bond, metal coordination effect, π-π conjugation, crystal defect, and pore-filling effect. In addition, MIL-88A (Al)-d has good repeatability, indicating that it is a good material for treating anionic dye wastewater.

Abstract
In this paper, molecularly imprinted Zr-doped TiO2 photocatalysts (MIP-ZrO2-TiO2) were prepared by the molecularly imprinted sol-gel method for the photocatalytic degradation study of hydroquinone (HQ) as the target pollutant. For the effectiveness of the MIP-ZrO2-TiO2 catalyst in degrading HQ, the effects of Zr doping ratio, imprinted molecule dosage, calcination conditions, and pollutant concentration on its photocatalytic activity were investigated. XRD, TEM, XPS, and other techniques were used to evaluate the materials, and the findings revealed that MIP-ZrO2-TiO2 films with imprinted HQ were successfully produced on the ZrO2-TiO2 surface. The optimal preparation conditions were n(Ti):n(Zr) = 100:8, m(HQ) = 1.5 g, 550 °C for the calcination temperature, and 2 h for the calcination duration. The optimum reaction conditions were 10 mg/L HQ concentration, 1 g/L catalyst dose, and a pH of 6.91. According to the findings of photocatalytic tests, during 30 min of UV lamp (365 nm) irradiation, the degradation rates of MIP-ZrO2-TiO2, ZrO2-TiO2, and TiO2 for HQ were 90.58%, 83.94%, and 58.30%, respectively. The findings revealed that the doping of Zr metal and the addition of imprinted molecules improved the photocatalytic activity of TiO2, which can be used for the efficient treatment of low concentrations of hard-to-degrade hydroquinone.

One-pot solvothermal synthesis of Bi/Bi 2S 3/Bi 2WO 6 S-scheme heterojunction with enhanced photoactivity towards antibiotic oxytetracycline degradation under visible light. Abstract
A novel noble-metal-free ternary Bi/Bi2S3/Bi2WO6 S-scheme heterojunction and Schottky junction was successfully synthesized by one-pot solvothermal method. UV-Vis spectroscopy showed improved light absorption in the ternary composite structure. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy confirmed the reduced interfacial resistivity and photogenerated charge recombination rate of the composites. Using oxytetracycline (OTC) as model pollutant, Bi/Bi2S3/Bi2WO6 presented high photocatalytic activity towards OTC degradation, where the removal rate of Bi/Bi2S3/Bi2WO6 was 1.3 and 4.1 times higher than that of Bi2WO6 and Bi2S3 under visible light irradiation in 15 min, respectively. The excellent visible photocatalysis activity was attributed to the SPR effect of metal Bi and the direct S-scheme heterojunction of Bi2S3 and Bi2WO6 with the matched energy band structure, which led to the increased electron transfer rate and high separation efficiency of the photogenerated election-hole pairs. After seven cycles, the degradation efficiency for 30 ppm OTC with Bi/Bi2S3/Bi2WO6 only decreased 20.4%. In the degradation solution, the composite photocatalyst leached only 16 ng/L Bi and 26 ng/L W of metal with high photocatalytic stability. Moreover, free radical quenching experiment and electron spin-resonance spectroscopy experiment revealed that ·O2-, 1O2, h+ and ·OH played crucial roles in the photocatalytic degradation of OTC. Based on the analysis of high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry for the intermediates in the degradation process, the degradation pathway was provided. Finally, combined with ecotoxicological effect analysis, the decreased toxicity of OTC after degradation towards rice seedlings was confirmed.

Abstract
In this work, the Br functional group on the ligand UiO-66-Br was modified with a Bi-O bond through the secondary solvothermal method, and the synthesis method of visible light catalyst UB (UiO-66-BiOBr) with high electron mobility was explored. The findings indicate that the effective charge transfer of the functional group-modified material UB is 2.98 times and 1.22 times that of BiOBr and traditional UiO-66/BiOBr heterojunctions, respectively. Under simulated sunlight irradiation, the removal rate of tetracycline can reach 88.71%, and the photocatalytic performance is 22.73 times higher than that of UiO-66-Br. Moreover, it maintains good adsorption and photocatalytic performance under different laboratory and actual engineering water environment conditions. In the complex water environment of municipal wastewater, the degradation effect reaches more than 80%. Finally, the decomposition pathways of TC and ecotoxicities of the intermediates were analyzed via combining theoretical calculation, LC-MS/MS, and T.E.S.T.

Abstract
The contamination of water due to present of dyes, poses serious health problems. Therefore, treatment of contaminated water is necessary to resolve this problem. A tailored co-precipitation technique has been successfully used to prepare Fe3O4-multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs)-Bentonite nanocomposite. The methylene blue present in aqueous solutions was removed using synthesized nanocomposite as adsorbent. The synthesized novel nanocomposite was analyzed by various characterization techniques. The scanning electron microscope analysis shows that Bentonite and Fe3O4 nanoparticles are well decorated with the MWCNTs matrix. The nanocomposite exhibited a high BET surface area of 204.01 m2/g with a pore volume of 0.367 cm3/g. The BJH adsorption average pore diameter was analyzed to be 7.2 nm. Moreover, the adsorption model was in agreement with the Redlich-Peterson model with adsorption capacity of 48.2 mg/g with a high nonlinear regression coefficient (R2 = 0.985) and a low chi-square value (χ2 = 6.18). Kinetics data were described well by pseudo-first-order and pseudo second order, models with a high non-linear regression coefficient (R2 = 0.993). Adsorption of MB dye was determined to be a non-spontaneous and endothermic process since the values of ΔG, and ΔH were positive, and the entropy value was negative. Thus, the synthesized nanocomposite established itself as a promising candidate for the water treatment process.

Abstract
Tetracycline (TC) antibiotics are widely used in animal husbandry and can cause environmental risk due to its high ecological toxicity and persistence. In this study, cobalt doped/ZnTiO3 (ZTO)/Ti3C2Tx MXene (ZCxTM, x indicates wt% of Co loading) was synthesized and explored to remove TC by adsorption and photocatalysis under visible light irradiation. The as-prepared ZC5TM was characterized using various analytical techniques, and key operating parameters such as solution pH, background ions, and temperature were systematically investigated. Interestingly, ZC5TM (14.9 mg/g) showed excellent adsorption capacity for TC, which was higher than activated carbon (7.7 mg/g), ZTO (4.9 mg/g), ZC3T (5.2 mg/g), ZC5T (5.3 mg/g), MXene (12.1 mg/g), ZTOM (12.5 mg/g), and ZC3TM (12.9 mg/g). The pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm models well explained the effect of contact time and initial concentrations on the adsorption of TC. The adsorption process was primarily through the electrostatic attraction, surface complexation, and hydrogen bonding. In addition, MXene and Co doped on ZTO served as co-catalyst and reduced recombination rate of photo-generated e--h+ pairs by the intimate interface of its heterojunction. Thus, ZC5TM was highly effective for the photocatalytic degradation of residual TC after adsorption by showing 18% TC degradation rate, compared to 8% and 9% degradation rate for ZTO and MXene, respectively. There results finally support the feasible use of ZC5TM as efficient adsorbent and photocatalyst in removal of TC in wastewater.

Abstract
Here, we report a novel amino-modified mesoporous-structured aluminum-based metal-organic framework adsorbent, MIL-68(Al)/MCM-41-NH2, for dye sewage treatment. The introduction of molecular sieves overcomes the inherent defects of microporous MOFs in contaminant transfer and provides more active sites to enhance adsorption efficiency. Compared with using organic amino ligands directly, this strategy is ten times cheaper. The composite was well characterized and analyzed in terms of morphology, structure and chemical composition. Batch experiments were carried out to study the influences of essential factors on the process, such as pH and temperature. In addition, their interactions and the optimum conditions were examined using response surface methodology (RSM). The adsorption kinetics, isotherms and thermodynamics were systematically elucidated. In detail, the adsorption process conforms to pseudo-second-order kinetics and follows the Sips and Freundlich isothermal models. Moreover, the maximum adsorption capacity Qs of methyl orange (MO) was 477 mg g-1. It could be concluded that the process was spontaneous, exothermic, and entropy-reducing. Several binary dye systems have been designed for selective adsorption research. Our material has an affinity for anionic pigments. The adsorption mechanisms were discussed in depth. The electrostatic interaction might be the dominant effect. Meanwhile, hydrogen bonding, π-π stacking, and pore filling might be important driving forces. The excellent thermal stability and recyclability of the adsorbent are readily noticed. After five reuse cycles, the composite still possesses a removal efficiency of 90% for MO. Overall, the efficient and low-cost composite can be regarded as a promising adsorbent for the selective adsorption of anionic dyes from wastewater.

Abstract
A new catalyst of S-BiOBr flower-like morphology was synthesized by simple pyrolysis and further used for photocatalytic degradation of TC. Phase structure analysis, elemental analysis and micromorphological analysis confirmed that S doping has a reinforcing effect on the polarization between the [Bi2O2S]2+ and [Br2]2- layers and is conducive to interlayer polarization and rapid charge transfer. In addition, its unique petal morphology is more favorable to the adsorption of contaminants on its surface and accelerates the reaction of catalyst surfactant with contaminants. It was also found that S-BiOBr degrades TC significantly better than single BiOBr@HCs, with up to 99.1% in 60 min illumination. In addition, the S-BiOBr catalyst has good reusability in antibiotic degradation. The results of photocatalytic mechanism analysis show that free radical O2− plays a major role in the photodegradation of organic model pollutants. Intermediates in TC degradation were identified, and their potential degradation pathways were prospected, and the toxicity development of TC in the degradation process was analyzed by toxicity assessment software. The S-BiOBr photocatalytic system developed in this paper provides a new idea for effective modification of bismuth-based semiconductors and has important guiding significance for future water purification.

Abstract
The MB and MR removal process by two mechanisms of adsorption using rice straw (absence of UV light) and photodegradation on TiO2 surfaces was investigated. MB and MR removal efficiency were further intensified upon the sequential operation of adsorption followed by photocatalytic degradation over TiO2 under visible light irradiation. The TiO2 was used to remove methylene blue (MB) and Maxilon Red (MR) dye from aqueous media by continuous mode at 25 ± 2 °C, at pH 6.8 ± 0.2. Photo-illumination study revealed 75.81 and 65.51% MB and MR removal with the dose of 1 g/L TiO2 with an initial concentration of 5 mg/L within 120 min. This study can be deemed of potential applications for the removal of MB and MR dyes on an industrial level using the synergistic adsorption-photocatalytic oxidation approach. A probable photodegradation mechanism was proposed.
