Abstract
In light of the significant risks that mycotoxins posed to public health and environmental safety, this research developed an adsorbent MIPs/Apt/AuNPs@ZIF-67 (MA-AZ) utilizing a dual-recognition approach combining molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) and aptamer (Apt). This innovative method enabled the effective and highly selective recognition and enrichment of ochratoxin A (OTA). ZIF-67 was utilized as a carrier with a substantial specific surface area, and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were loaded on its surface to fix the thiol-modified Apt on the surface of the carrier. Then, an initiator was used to initiate a polymerization reaction, and the generated MIPs coated Apt/AuNPs@ZIF-67, thereby synthesizing the MA-AZ with a "synergistic recognition" effect. The Apt significantly increased the number of recognition sites within the imprinted cavities, and MIPs played roles in identifying targets, fixing and protecting Apt. The combination of the both produced the effect of "1+1>2". The study on the adsorption performance of MA-AZ found that the adsorption capacity of MA-AZ could reach 65.1 mg/g, and the imprinted factor was 5.48. In addition, MA-AZ exhibited excellent stability, specificity, reusability and recovery rate. Thus, this study offers valuable insights for the recognition and enrichment of hazardous substances, and helps to promote the rapid development of safety detection.

Abstract
The growing health consciousness of consumers has led to an increase in the consumption of artisanal chocolates, mainly due to their recognized health benefits. However, processing steps such as fermentation and drying of cocoa beans can favor the growth of ochratoxigenic fungi. This study aimed to assess the occurrence of ochratoxin A (OTA) in cocoa beans (purchased from e-commerce and post-harvest processing) and bean-to-bar chocolates sold in Brazil. An HPLC-FLD method was validated, with recovery values between 84 and 97% and limits of detection and quantification of 0.04 and 0.01 µg/kg, respectively. OTA was detected in 30% of the cocoa bean samples studied (n = 43), with values ranging from < 0.04 to 1.18 µg/kg. Regarding the bean-to-bar chocolates (n = 62), the OTA concentrations ranged from < 0.04 to 1.11 µg/kg, with a prevalence in semi-sweet and dark chocolates. Despite representing a growing market, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report OTA concentrations in bean-to-bar chocolates and Brazilian cocoa beans used to produce this type of chocolate.

Abstract
Since ochratoxin A (OTA) is immunotoxic, teratogenic and carcinogenic, it is very important to monitor this compound in food samples. In the present work, the development and fabrication of a label-free electrochemical aptasensor based on the gold nanoparticles/silver-based metal-organic framework (AuNPs/Ag-MOF) for the determination of ochratoxin A (OTA) is introduced. The aptasensor was fabricated by electrodeposition of AuNPs on a glassy carbon electrode modified with Ag-MOF. The characteristics of the synthesized Ag-MOF were determined by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV-Visible spectroscopy. The aptamer was immobilized on the modified electrode and then OTA was incubated on it. The process of different stages of the aptasensor construction has been confirmed by two methods of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) and using [Fe(CN)6]3-/4- as a redox probe. The EIS method has also been used for the OTA quantitative determination. The difference in charge transfer resistance (Rct) before and after the interaction of OTA with the immobilized aptamer was considered as the analytical response of the aptasensor. Using the developed aptasensor, it is possible to measure OTA in the concentration range of 1.0 × 10-3 to 200.0 ng mL-1 with a detection limit of 2.2 × 10-4 ng mL-1. Finally, the ability of the aptasensor to measure OTA in red and black pepper was investigated and completely satisfactory results were obtained.

Abstract
In the face of diversified analytes, it is a great challenge and infeasible task to design and synthesize corresponding macrocyclic hosts to realize the ideal supramolecular sensing. Herein, we proposed a novel supramolecular sensing strategy, guest adaptative assay (GAA), in which analyte was quantitatively transformed under mild conditions to perfectly adapt to macrocyclic host. As a health-threatening "landmine" in cereals, aflatoxins were converted by the aid of alkali hydrolysis to satisfactorily obtain aflatoxins transformants in ionic state, resulting in sensitive response by the guanidinocalix[5]arene•fluorescein reporter pair. Surprisingly, the established strategy not only exhibited effective practicality in screening out high-risk cereals contaminated with aflatoxins, but also relieved the laborious task of macrocycle design and screening in supramolecular sensing.

Abstract
An electrochemical aptasensor was developed for the simultaneous determination of ochratoxin A (OTA) and aflatoxin B1 (AFB1). Two compounds hemin@HKUST-1 and ferrocene@HKUST-1 were synthesized by encapsulating hemin and ferrocene inside the MOF made by copper nodes and trimesic acid, known as HKUST-1 MOF, and then bind to complementary DNA sequences of OTA aptamer (cDNA1) and AFB1 aptamer (cDNA2), respectively. Then, the hemin@HKUST-1/cDNA1 and ferrocene@HKUST-1/cDNA2 bioconjugates were deposited on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with carbon nanodots decorated with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs-CNDs). In the absence of the two mycotoxins, the current response related to the electroactive labels of hemin and ferrocene in the discussed bioconjugates have been measured at two separate potentials simultaneously by the differential pulse voltammetry technique (DPV). Using the described aptasensor, it is possible to measure both OTA and AFB1 mycotoxins in the linear concentration range of 1.0 × 10-2 to 100.0 ng mL-1. Also, the detection limits of OTA and AFB1 were 4.3 × 10-3 ng mL-1 and 5.2 × 10-3 ng mL-1, respectively. Finally, the ability of the proposed duplex aptasensor for the simultaneous measurement of OTA and AFB1 in a corn flour sample was investigated and completely satisfactory results were achieved.

Abstract
Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a toxic metabolite commonly found in various foods and feedstuffs. Accurate and sensitive detection of OTA is needed for food safety and human health. Based on a common OTA-binding aptamer (OTABA), two structure-switching OTABAs, namely OTABA4 and OTABA3, were designed by configuring a split G-quadruplex and a split G-triplex, respectively, at the two ends of OTABA to construct aptasensors for the detection of OTA. The OTABA, G-quadruplex, and G-triplex all can capture the thioflavin T (ThT) probe, thereby enhancing the fluorescence intensity of ThT. Bonding with OTA could change the conformations of OTABA and G-quadruplex or G-triplex regions, resulting in the release of the captured ThT and diminution of its fluorescence intensity. Dual conformation changes in structure-switching OTABA synergistically amplified the fluorescence signal and improved the sensitivity of the aptasensor, especially for that with OTABA3. The detection limits of the OTABA4-ThT and OTABA3-ThT systems for OTA were 0.28 and 0.059 ng ml-1 , with a 1.4-fold and 6.7-fold higher sensitivity than that of the original OTABA-ThT system, respectively. They performed well in corn and peanut samples and met the requirements of the food safety inspections.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted fluorescent carbon dots (MI-FCDs) find numerous applications in analytical chemistry due to their outstanding photoluminescent properties and having specific pockets for the recognition of target molecules. Despite significant advances, practical applications of MI-FCDs-based fluorescent sensors are still in their initial stages. Therefore, the topical developments in the synthesis, working, and application of MI-FCDs for sensing various target species (e.g., pharmaceuticals, biomolecules, pesticides, food additives, and miscellaneous species) in food and biological media have been highlighted. Moreover, a careful evaluation has been made to select the best methods based on their performance in terms of analytical parameters. To expand the horizons of this field, important challenges and future directions for developing MI-FCDs for practical use are also presented. This review will highlight important aspects of MI-FCDs-based fluorescent sensors for their applicability in food science, material science, environmental science, nanoscience, and biotechnology.

Abstract
Rapid and efficient detection of mycotoxins is of great significance in the field of food safety. In this review, several traditional and commercial detection methods are introduced, such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), test strips, etc. Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensors have the advantages of high sensitivity and specificity. The use of ECL biosensors for mycotoxins detection has attracted great attention. According to the recognition mechanisms, ECL biosensors are mainly divided into antibody-based, aptamer-based, and molecular imprinting techniques. In this review, we focus on the recent effects towards the designation of diverse ECL biosensors in mycotoxins assay, mainly including their amplification strategies and working mechanism.

Abstract
An impedimetric aptasensor based on a polyaniline (PAni) support matrix is developed through the surface modification of a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPE) for aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) detection in foodstuffs and feedstuffs for food safety. The PAni is synthesized with the chemical oxidation method and characterized with potentiostat/galvanostat, FTIR, and UV-vis spectroscopy techniques. The stepwise fabrication procedure of the PAni-based aptasensor is characterized by means of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. The impedimetric aptasensor is optimized using the EIS technique, and its feasibility of detecting AFB1 in real sample matrices is evaluated via a recovery study in spiked foodstuffs and feedstuffs, such as pistachio nuts, cinnamons, cloves, corn, and soybeans, with a good recovery percentage, ranging from 87.9% to 94.7%. The charge transfer resistance (RCT) at the aptasensor interface increases linearly with the AFB1 concentration in the range of 3 × 10-2 nM to 8 × 10-2 nM, with a regression coefficient (R2) value of 0.9991 and detection limit of 0.01 nM. The proposed aptasensor is highly selective towards AFB1 and partially selective to AFB2 and ochratoxin A (OTA) due to their similar structures that differ only at the carbon-carbon double bond located at C8 and C9 and the large molecule size of OTA.

Abstract
Olive oil can be contaminated by fungal toxins; therefore, it is necessary to monitor the incidence of mycotoxins in this oil. In the present study, the pooled prevalence of detectable aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in olive oil was evaluated using systematic review and meta-analysis approach from 1 January 1991 to 31 December 2020 (30 years study). The search was conducted via electronic databases involving Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, Agris and Agricola. Synonyms were collected from combination of the MESH, Agrovoc and free text method. After screening and selection process of primary researches, full texts of eligible researches (46 studies) were evaluated and data of the nine studies as included researches were extracted. Random effect model was used to estimate the pooled prevalence of AFB1 in olive oil and weighing model of Dersimonian-Laired was applied. Summary measure of mycotoxin prevalence was estimated using Metaprop module of STATA and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using the Binomial Exact Method. Pooled prevalence of AFB1 in olive oils were 32% (95% CI 8-56%) which means that 68% of olive oil were free of detectable contaminants of AFB1. Due to controversy over the results of primary studies, future researches and consequent subgroup analysis based on the main variables affecting the aflatoxins contamination in olive oil are recommended to achieve the conclusive results.

Abstract
Enniatins (ENN) and beauvericin (BEA) are emerging mycotoxins that have been traditionally determined by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). However, to the best of our knowledge, no analytical methods based on capillary electrophoresis (CE)-MS/MS have been reported so far. Due to their non-polar nature, in this work, a non-aqueous CE (NACE) method coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight-MS is proposed for the first time to identify and quantify these mycotoxins. Determination was achieved in 4 min under optimum conditions: 40 mM ammonium acetate in 80:20 (v/v) acetonitrile-methanol (buffer), 30 kV (voltage), 80 cm (capillary length), 20 °C (capillary temperature) and 50 mbar × 30 s (injection). Higher selectivity can be achieved when compared with LC due to the formation of exclusive CE adducts such as [M + CH3CH2NH3]+. "All Ions" acquisition mode was selected as it allows the quantification of the usual ENNs, as well as the identity confirmation of less common ENNs. The method was validated for wheat samples, obtaining limits of quantification from 4.0 to 8.3 μg/kg depending on the emerging mycotoxin, recovery values higher than 87.4%, and intra- and inter-day precision values (RSDs) lower than 15.1% in all cases. Finally, 29 wheat samples were analyzed, finding 26 samples with concentrations of enniatin B higher than the limit of quantification (7.5-1480 μg/kg), 20 for enniatin B1 (5.2-550 μg/kg), 7 for enniatin A (10-55 μg/kg), 4 for enniatin A1 (12.6-77 μg/kg) and 5 for BEA (9.2-16.4 μg/kg). Moreover, two other ENNs were tentatively identified.

Abstract
Life-threatening diseases, such as hepatitis B, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and COVID-19, are widespread due to pathogenic bacteria and viruses. Therefore, the development of highly sensitive, rapid, portable, cost-effective, and selective methods for the analysis of such microorganisms is a great challenge. Microchip electrophoresis (ME) has been widely used in recent years for the analysis of bacterial and viral pathogens in biological and environmental samples owing to its portability, simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and rapid analysis. However, microbial enrichment and purification are critical steps for accurate and sensitive analysis of pathogenic bacteria and viruses in complex matrices. Therefore, we first discussed the advances in the sample preparation technologies associated with the accurate analysis of such microorganisms, especially the on-chip microfluidic-based sample preparations such as dielectrophoresis and microfluidic membrane filtration. Thereafter, we focused on the recent advances in the lab-on-a-chip electrophoretic analysis of pathogenic bacteria and viruses in different complex matrices. As the microbial analysis is mainly based on the analysis of nucleic acid of the microorganism, the integration of nucleic acid-based amplification techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), quantitative PCR, and multiplex PCR with ME will result in an accurate and sensitive analysis of microbial pathogens. Such analyses are very important for the point-of-care diagnosis of various infectious diseases.

Abstract
Mycotoxin contamination has become a challenge in the field of food safety testing, given the increasing emphasis on food safety in recent years. Mycotoxins are widely distributed, in heavily polluted areas. Food contamination with these toxins is difficult to prevent and control. Mycotoxins, as are small-molecule toxic metabolites produced by several species belonging to the genera Aspergillus, Fusarium, and Penicillium growing in food. They are considered teratogenic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic to humans and animals. Food systems are often simultaneously contaminated with multiple mycotoxins. Due to the additive or synergistic toxicological effects caused by the co-existence of multiple mycotoxins, their individual detection requires reliable, accurate, and high-throughput techniques. Currently available, methods for the detection of multiple mycotoxins are mainly based on chromatography, spectroscopy (colorimetry, fluorescence, and surface-enhanced Raman scattering), and electrochemistry. This review provides a comprehensive overview of advances in the multiple detection methods of mycotoxins during the recent 5 years. The principles and features of these techniques are described. The practical applications and challenges associated with assays for multiple detection methods of mycotoxins are summarized. The potential for future development and application is discussed in an effort, to provide standards of references for further research.

Abstract
Contamination of agricultural products and foods by aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is becoming a serious global problem, and the presence of AFB1 in edible oil is frequent and has become inevitable, especially in underdeveloped countries and regions. As AFB1 results from a possible degradation of aflatoxins and the interaction of the resulting toxic compound with food components, it could cause chronic disease or severe cancers, increasing morbidity and mortality. Therefore, rapid and reliable detection methods are essential for checking AFB1 occurrence in foodstuffs to ensure food safety. Recently, new biosensor technologies have become a research hotspot due to their characteristics of speed and accuracy. This review describes various technologies such as chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, ELISA techniques, and biosensing techniques, along with their advantages and weaknesses, for AFB1 control in edible oil and provides new insight into AFB1 detection for future work. Although compared with other technologies, biosensor technology involves the cross integration of multiple technologies, such as spectral technology and new nano materials, and has great potential, some challenges regarding their stability, cost, etc., need further studies.

Abstract
Mucin 1 (MUC1) is usually overexpressed in a variety of malignant tumors, and quantitative analysis of MUC1 plays an important role in the early diagnosis of cancer. In this work, a highly sensitive MUC1 assay was developed by integrating microchip electrophoresis (MCE) with target recycling amplification (TRA) and strand displacement amplification (SDA). Specifically, the presence of MUC1 can trigger the exposure of the designed hairpin probe (HP) to initiate SDA and an amplified amount of ssDNA is produced finally. The amount of these ssDNA can be detected by MCE, then the concentration of MUC1 can be obtained through the correlation between MUC1 concentration and ssDNA concentration. The experimental results show that the MCE signal had a good linear relationship with MUC1 concentration in the range of 1.0 pg/mL - 1.0 × 103 pg/mL with a low limit of detection of 0.23 pg/mL under the optimal conditions (S/N = 3). Additionally, the assay had been successfully applied to detect MUC1 in biological samples with satisfactory results, providing an alternative assay for the detection of other tumor markers owing to the high sensitivity, high selectivity, simple operation and low sample consumption.

Abstract
Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a widely distributed mycotoxin that often contaminates food, grains and animal feed. It poses a serious threat to human health because of its high toxicity and persistence. Therefore, the development of an inexpensive, highly sensitive, accurate and rapid method for OTA detection is imperative. In recent years, various nanomaterials used in the establishment of aptasensors have attracted great attention due to their large surface-to-volume ratio, good stability and facile preparation. This review summarizes the development of nanomaterial-based aptasensors for OTA determination and sample treatment over the past 5 years. The nanomaterials used in OTA aptasensors include metal, carbon, luminescent, magnetic and other nanomaterials. Finally, the limitations and future challenges in the development of nanomaterial-based OTA aptasensors are reviewed and discussed.

Abstract
Bio-inspired polymeric nanochannel (also referred as nanopore)-based biosensors have attracted considerable attention on account of their controllable channel size and shape, multi-functional surface chemistry, unique ionic transport properties, and good robustness for applications. There are already very informative reviews on the latest developments in solid-state artificial nanochannel-based biosensors, however, which concentrated on the resistive-pulse sensing-based sensors for practical applications. The steady-state sensing-based nanochannel biosensors, in principle, have significant advantages over their counterparts in term of high sensitivity, fast response, target analytes with no size limit, and extensive suitable range. Furthermore, among the diverse materials, nanochannels based on polymeric materials perform outstandingly, due to flexible fabrication and wide application. This compressive Review summarizes the recent advances in bio-inspired polymeric nanochannels as sensing platforms for detection of important analytes in living organisms, to meet the high demand for high-performance biosensors for analysis of target analytes, and the potential for development of smart sensing devices. In the future, research efforts can be focused on transport mechanisms in the field of steady-state or resistive-pulse nanochannel-based sensors and on developing precisely size-controlled, robust, miniature and reusable, multi-functional, and high-throughput biosensors for practical applications. Future efforts should aim at a deeper understanding of the principles at the molecular level and incorporating these diverse pore architectures into homogeneous and defect-free multi-channel membrane systems. With the rapid advancement of nanoscience and biotechnology, we believe that many more achievements in nanochannel-based biosensors could be achieved in the near future, serving people in a better way.

Abstract
The design and fabrication of a surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) aptasensor for simultaneous detection of zearalenone (ZEN) and ochratoxin A (OTA) in wheat and corn samples is described. The capture and reporter probes were SH-cDNA-modified gold nanorods and SH-Apt-modified Au@Ag core-shell nanoparticles, respectively. After recognizing OTA and ZEN aptamers and complementary strands (SH-cDNA), the reporter probe generated a strong SERS signal. The preferred binding of OTA and ZEN aptamers to OTA and ZEN, respectively, caused reporter probes to release the capture probes, resulting in a linear decrease in SERS intensity. The detection of OTA showed good linearity with an R2 value of 0.986, which could be maintained across a wide concentration range (0.01 to 100 ng/mL), with the limit of detection of 0.018 ng/mL. For detection of ZEN, good linearity with an R2 value of 0.987 could be maintained across a wide concentration range (0.05 to 500 ng/mL), with 0.054 ng/mL as the limit of detection. Good accuracy (relative standard deviation < 4.2%) during mycotoxin determination as well as excellent quantitative recoveries (96.0-110.7%) during the analysis of spiked real samples was achieved. The proposed SERS aptasensor exhibited excellent performance in the detection of OTA and ZEN in real food samples. Hence, by simply changing the aptamer, this new model can be applied to the detection of multiple mycotoxins in the food industry.

Abstract
Aflatoxin B1 is the potential chemical contaminant of most concern during the production and storage of fermented tea. In this work, a simple, fast, sensitive, accurate, and inexpensive method has been developed and validated for the simultaneous detection of four aflatoxins in fermented tea based on a modified sample pretreatment method and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Aflatoxins were extracted using acetonitrile and purified using mixed fillers (carboxyl multiwalled carbon nanotubes, hydrophilic-lipophilic balance, silica gel). Under optimum LC-MS conditions, the limits of quantification (LOQs) were 0.02-0.5 µg·kg-1. Recoveries from aflatoxins-fortified tea samples (1-12 µg·kg-1) were in the range of 78.94-105.23% with relative standard deviations (RSDs) less than 18.20%. The proposed method was applied successfully to determine aflatoxin levels in fermented tea samples.

Abstract
Ochratoxin A is a highly toxic mycotoxin and has posed great threat to human health. Due to its serious toxicity and wide contamination, great efforts have been made to develop reliable determination methods. In this review, analytical methods are comprehensively summarized in terms of sample preparation strategy and instrumental analysis. Detailed method is described according to the food commodities in the order of cereal, wine, coffee, beer, cocoa, dried fruit and spice. This review mainly focuses on the recent advances, especially reported in the last decade. At last, challenges and perspectives are also discussed to achieve better advancement and promote practical application in this field.

Abstract
The existence of contaminants in food poses a serious threat to human health. In recent years, aptamer sensors (aptasensors) have been developed rapidly for the detection of food contaminants because of their high specificity, design flexibility, and high efficiency. However, the development of high-throughput, highly sensitive, on-site, and cost-effective methods for simultaneous detection of food contaminants is still restricted due to multiple signal overlap or mutual interference and cross-reaction between different analytes with similar molecular structures. To overcome these problems, this Review summarizes some effective strategies from the articles published in recent years about multiplexed aptasensors for the simultaneous detection of food contaminants. This work focuses on the application of multiplexed aptasensors to simultaneously detect antibiotics, pathogens, and mycotoxins in food. These aptasensors mainly contain fluorescent aptasensors, electrochemical aptasensors, surface-enhanced Raman scattering-based aptasensors, microfluidic chip aptasensors, and paper-based multiplexed aptasensors. In addition, this Review also covers the application of nucleic acid cycle amplification and nanomaterial amplification strategies to improve the detection sensitivity. Finally, the limitations and challenges in the design of multiplexed aptasensor are also taken into account.

Abstract
In the present study, a simple and fast method for simultaneous detection of zearalenone, citrinin, and ochratoxin A utilising capillary zone electrophoresis with an ultraviolet detector was developed. The optimised approach was validated and applied using pepper samples. The proposed method yielded satisfactory linearity between the signal and the mycotoxin concentration in the range of 1.5-150 μg/kg for zearalenone, 4.5-150 μg/kg for citrinin, and 0.8-150 μg/kg for ochratoxin A. The limits of detection for these mycotoxins ranged from 0.3 to 1.5 μg/kg. The corresponding intra- and inter-day precisions were less than 3.5 % and 4.1 %, respectively. Moreover, the matrix effect was also assessed and the result was compared using the capillary zone electrophoresis and high-performance liquid chromatography methods. The developed approach could be used for simultaneous detection of zearalenone, citrinin, and ochratoxin A in pepper.

Abstract
Mycotoxins are considered one of the most dangerous agricultural and food contaminants. They are toxic and the development of rapid and sensitive analytical methods to detect and quantify them is a very important issue in the context of food safety and animal/human health. The need to detect mycotoxins at trace levels and to simultaneously analyze many different mycotoxin types became mandatory to protect public health. In fact, European Commission regulations specified both their limits in foodstuffs and official sample preparation protocols in addition to analytical methods to verify their presence. Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) includes different separation modes, allowing many versatile applications in food analysis and safety. In the context of mycotoxins, recent advances to improve CE sensitivity, particularly pre-concentration techniques or miniaturized systems, deserve remarkable attention, as they provide an interesting approach in the analysis of such contaminants in complex food matrices. This review summarizes the applications of CE combined with different pre-concentration approaches, which have been proposed in the literature (mainly) in the last ten years. A section is also dedicated to recent microchip–CE devices since they represent the most promising CE mode for this application.

Abstract
Microfluidic capillary electrophoresis (MCE) is the novel technique resulted from the CE mininaturization as planar separation and analysis device. This review presents and discusses various application fields of this advanced technology published in the period 2017 till mid-2019 in eight different sections including clinical, biological, single cell analysis, environmental, pharmaceuticals, food analysis, forensic and ion analysis. The need for miniaturization of CE and the consequence advantages achieved are also discussed including high-throughput, miniaturized detection, effective separation, portability and the need for micro- or even nano-volume of samples. Comprehensive tables for the MCE applications in the different studied fields are provided. Also, figure comparing the number of the published papers applying MCE in the eight discussed fields within the studied period is included. The future investigation should put into consideration the possibility of replacing conventional CE with the MCE after proper validation. Suitable validation parameters with their suitable accepted ranges should be tailored for analysis methods utilizing such unique technique (MCE).

Abstract
Over the last two decades, the group of techniques called affinity probe CE has been widely used for the detection and the determination of several types of biomolecules with high sensitivity. These techniques combine the low sample consumption and high separation power of CE with the selectivity of the probe to the target molecule. The assays can be defined according to the type of probe used: CE immunoassays, with an antibody as the probe, or aptamer-based CE, with an aptamer as the probe. Immunoassays are generally divided into homogeneous and heterogeneous groups, and homogeneous variant can be further performed in competitive or noncompetitive formats. Interacting partners are free in solution at homogeneous assay, as opposed to heterogeneous analyses, where one of them is immobilized onto a solid support. Highly sensitive fluorescence, chemiluminescence or electrochemical detections were typically used in this type of study. The use of the aptamers as probes has several advantages over antibodies such as shorter generation time, higher thermal stability, lower price, and lower variability. The aptamer-based CE technique was in practice utilized for the determination of proteins in biological fluids and environmentally or clinically important small molecules. Both techniques were also transferred to microchip. This review is focused on theoretical principles of these techniques and a summary of their applications in research.

Abstract
Aflatoxins are wide-spread harmful carcinogenic secondary metabolites produced by Aspergillus species, which cause serious feed and food contaminations and affect farm animals deleteriously with acute or chronic manifestations of mycotoxicoses. On farm, both pre-harvest and post-harvest strategies are applied to minimize the risk of aflatoxin contaminations in feeds. The great economic losses attributable to mycotoxin contaminations have initiated a plethora of research projects to develop new, effective technologies to prevent the highly toxic effects of these secondary metabolites on domestic animals and also to block the carry-over of these mycotoxins to humans through the food chain. Among other areas, this review summarizes the latest findings on the effects of silage production technologies and silage microbiota on aflatoxins, and it also discusses the current applications of probiotic organisms and microbial products in feeding technologies. After ingesting contaminated foodstuffs, aflatoxins are metabolized and biotransformed differently in various animals depending on their inherent and acquired physiological properties. These mycotoxins may cause primary aflatoxicoses with versatile, species-specific adverse effects, which are also dependent on the susceptibility of individual animals within a species, and will be a function of the dose and duration of aflatoxin exposures. The transfer of these undesired compounds from contaminated feed into food of animal origin and the aflatoxin residues present in foods become an additional risk to human health, leading to secondary aflatoxicoses. Considering the biological transformation of aflatoxins in livestock, this review summarizes (i) the metabolism of aflatoxins in different animal species, (ii) the deleterious effects of the mycotoxins and their derivatives on the animals, and (iii) the major risks to animal health in terms of the symptoms and consequences of acute or chronic aflatoxicoses, animal welfare and productivity. Furthermore, we traced the transformation and channeling of Aspergillus-derived mycotoxins into food raw materials, particularly in the case of aflatoxin contaminated milk, which represents the major route of human exposure among animal-derived foods. The early and reliable detection of aflatoxins in feed, forage and primary commodities is an increasingly important issue and, therefore, the newly developed, easy-to-use qualitative and quantitative aflatoxin analytical methods are also summarized in the review.

Abstract
Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a class of mycotoxin mainly produced by the genera Aspergillus and Penicillium. OTA can cause various forms of kidney, liver and brain diseases in both humans and animals although trace amount of OTA is normally present in food. Therefore, development of fast and sensitive detection technique is essential for accurate diagnosis of OTA. Currently, the most commonly used detection methods are enzyme-linked immune sorbent assays (ELISA) and chromatographic techniques. These techniques are sensitive but time consuming, and require expensive equipment, highly trained operators, as well as extensive preparation steps. These drawbacks limit their wide application in OTA detection. On the contrary, biosensors hold a great potential for OTA detection at for both research and industry because they are less expensive, rapid, sensitive, specific, simple and portable. This paper aims to provide an extensive overview on biosensors for OTA detection by highlighting the main biosensing recognition elements for OTA, the most commonly used nanomaterials for fabricating the sensing interface, and their applications in different read-out types of biosensors. Current challenges and future perspectives are discussed as well.

Abstract
We described an aptamer based and Mg2+ mediated free zone capillary electrophoresis-laser induced fluorescence (CE-LIF) assay for aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) detection. This CE-LIF assay applied an anti-AFB1 aptamer with a single fluorescein (FAM) label at 5' end and a short complementary DNA (cDNA). In the absence of AFB1, the cDNA hybridized with the aptamer probe and formed a duplex DNA. The use of running buffer containing MgCl2 allowed good isolation of the duplex DNA from the single stranded DNA in CE. We found introducing a biotin label on the cDNA further improved the isolation. When AFB1 existed in sample solution, the aptamer probe bound with AFB1, dissociating from the duplex DNA. Thus, the duplex DNA peak decreased, while the aptamer probe peak increased during CE-LIF analysis. We achieved detection of AFB1 by measuring the aptamer probe peak. The length of cDNA, the ratio of aptamer to cDNA, and the concentration of MgCl2 in sample buffer and separation buffer had great effect on the aptamer based CE-LIF assay. Under optimized conditions, the detection limit of AFB1 was 0.2 nM, and the dynamic range was from 0.2 nM to 500 nM. Limit of quantitation was 0.5 nM. This CE-LIF assay enabled detection of AFB1 spiked in diluted human serum, diluted human urine, and corn flour samples. This assay exhibits potential for wide application as it integrates the rapidity, high sensitivity, low sample consumption of CE-LIF analysis and the strengths of aptamer.

Abstract
The strongly fluorescent and highly catalytic N-doped carbon dots (CDN) were rapidly prepared by a microwave irradiation procedure and were characterized by electron microscopy (EM), laser scattering, infrared spectroscopy (IR), and by their fluorescence spectrum. It was found that the CDN had a strong catalytic effect on the fluorescence reaction of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine hydroxide ((TMB)⁻H₂O₂) which produced the oxidation product of TMB (TMBOX) with strong fluorescence at 406 nm. The aptamer (Apt) was adsorbed on the CDN surfaces which weakened the fluorescence intensity due to the inhibition of catalytic activity. When the target molecule isocarbophos (IPS) was added, it reacted with the Apt to form a stable conjugate and free CDN which restored the catalytic activity to enhance the fluorescence. Using TMBOX as a fluorescent probe, a highly sensitive nanocatalytic method for determination of 0.025⁻1.5 μg/L IPS was established with a detection limit of 0.015 μg/L. Coupling the CDN fluorescent probe with the Apt⁻IPS reaction, a new CD fluorescence method was established for the simple and rapid determination of 0.25⁻1.5 μg/L IPS with a detection limit of 0.11 μg/L.
