Abstract
Quantification of neomycin residues in food samples demands an efficient purification platform. Herein, hierarchical macroporous agarose monoliths with multiple boronate affinity sites were established for selective separation of neomycin. The silica core was synthesized by "one-step" Stöber procedures followed by modification with amino group and incorporation of polyethyleneimine. A versatile macroporous agarose monolith was prepared by emulsification strategies and functionalized with epoxy groups. After introducing polyethyleneimine-integrated silica nanoparticles onto the agarose monolith, fluorophenylboronic acids were immobilized. The physical and chemical characteristics of the composite monolith were analyzed systematically. After optimization, neomycin showed high binding ability of 23.69 mg/g, and the binding capacity can be manipulated by changing the pH and adding monosaccharides. The composite monolith was subsequently utilized to purify neomycin from the spiked model aquatic products followed by high-performance liquid chromatography analysis, which revealed a remarkable neomycin purification effect, indicating the great potential in the separation of neomycin from complicated aquatic products.

Abstract
With the increasingly serious problem of aminoglycoside antibiotic residues, it is imperative to develop rapid, sensitive and efficient detection methods. This article reviews the detection methods of aminoglycoside antibiotics in animal-derived foods, including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, fluorescent immunoassay, chemical immunoassay, affinity sensing assay, lateral flow immunochromatography and molecular imprinted immunoassay. After evaluating the performance of these methods, the advantages and disadvantages were analyzed and compared. Furthermore, development prospects and research trends were proposed and summarized. This review can serve as a basis for further research and provide helpful references and new insights for the analysis of aminoglycoside residues. Accordingly, the in-depth investigation and analysis will certainly make great contributions to food safety, public hygiene and human health.

Abstract
Glucosamine (GlcN) and its derivatives are in high demand and used in various applications such as food, a precursor for the biochemical synthesis of fuels and chemicals, drug delivery, cosmetics, and supplements. The vast number of applications attributed to GlcN has raised its demand, and there is a growing emphasis on developing production methods that are sustainable and economical. Several: physical, chemical, enzymatic, microbial fermentation, recombinant processing methods, and their combinations have been reported to produce GlcN from chitin and chitosan available from different sources, such as animals, plants, and fungi. In addition, genetic manipulation of certain organisms has significantly improved the quality and yield of GlcN compared to conventional processing methods. This review will summarize the chitin and chitosan-degrading enzymes found in various organisms and the expression systems that are widely used to produce GlcN. Furthermore, new developments and methods, including genetic and metabolic engineering of Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis to produce high titers of GlcN and GlcNAc will be reviewed. Moreover, other sources of glucosamine production viz. starch and inorganic ammonia will also be discussed. Finally, the conversion of GlcN to fuels and chemicals using catalytic and biochemical conversion will be discussed.

Abstract
Bio-based and low-cost hybrid polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and gelatin (Gel) hydrophilic macromolecular complex coated microspheres were prepared based on one-pot process, characterized, and applied as novel sorbent materials for the purification of trace aminoglycosides from complex matrices. PVA acts as a "rigid" component in the hybrid complex to enhance its mechanical properties, while Gel's "flexible" role is to improve the swelling properties of the hybrid complex in water. It is shown that hybrid PVA/Gel-functionalized sorbents are more efficient than the respective PVA or Gel sorbents since the presence of Gel increases the material selectivity for aminoglycosides, which is due to the specific interactions occurring between the targets and amino acid residues in the hybrid materials. Under the optimum conditions, material preparation and pretreatment processes were entirely carried out in single water system without toxic organic solvent. The detection limit (LOD) of spectinomycin, kanamycin, streptomycin and dihydrostreptomycin in honey were 0.811, 0.303, 0.168, 0.045 μg⋅kg-1 respectively. Linearity was obtained in the range of 20 to 2000 ug⋅kg-1, relative recovery yield up to 84.1-111.7% were obtained and matrix effect of all four aminoglycosides was within 100.8-107.6%. Intra-day and inter-day precision under four spiking levels (5, 200, 500 and 1000 ug⋅kg-1) were less than 10.9% (n=6) and 13.6% (n=3) respectively. In addition, the sorbents exhibited excellent reusability even after six recycles. This work demonstrates the potential of bio-based and low-cost hybrid polymer extraction platforms as promising bonded phase alternatives, in which eco-friendly and natural-based polymers can be used to improve the material selectivity and are conducive to the realization of "green chemistry".

Abstract
Antibiotics are widely used to prevent or treat some diseases in human and veterinary medicine and also as animal growth promoters. The presence of these compounds in foods derived from food-producing animals can be a risk for human health. Consequently, regulatory agencies have set maximum residue limits for antibiotics in food samples. Therefore, the development of novel methodologies for its determination in food samples is required. Specifically, the analysis and quantification of these substances in meat tissues is a challenge for the analytical chemistry research community. This is due to the complexity of the matrix and the low detection limits required by the regulatory agencies. In this sense, a comprehensive review on the development of new sample preparation treatments involving extraction, cleanup, and enrichment steps of antibiotics in meat samples in combination with sensitive and sophisticated determination techniques that have been carry out in the last years is necessary. Therefore, the aim of this work is to summarize the published methodologies for the determination of antibiotics from 2016 until the beginning of the second semester of 2020. The first part of this review includes an introduction about antibiotic families, followed by sample preparation and determination techniques applied to the different families. Finally, a detailed discussion of the current trends and the future possible perspectives in this field are also included.

Abstract
Green analytical chemistry principles should be followed, as much as possible, and particularly during the development of analytical sample preparation methods. In the past few years, outstanding materials such as ionic liquids, metal-organic frameworks, carbonaceous materials, molecularly imprinted materials, and many others, have been introduced in a wide variety of miniaturized techniques in order to reduce the amount of solvents and sorbents required during the analytical sample preparation step while pursuing more efficient extraction methods. Among them, magnetic nanomaterials (MNMs) have gained special attention due to their versatile properties. Mainly, their ability to be separated from the sample matrix using an external magnetic field (thus enormously simplifying the entire process) and their easy combination with other materials, which implies the inclusion of a countless number of different functionalities, highly specific in some cases. Therefore, MNMs can be used as sorbents or as magnetic support for other materials which do not have magnetic properties, the latter permiting their combination with novel materials. The greenness of these magnetic sorbents in miniaturized extractions techniques is generally demonstrated in terms of their ease of separation and amount of sorbent required, while the nature of the material itself is left unnoticed. However, the synthesis of MNMs is not always as green as their applications, and the resulting MNMs are not always as safe as desired. Is the analytical sample preparation field ready for using green magnetic nanomaterials? This review offers an overview, from a green analytical chemistry perspective, of the current state of the use of MNMs as sorbents in microextraction strategies, their preparation, and the analytical performance offered, together with a critical discussion on where efforts should go.

Abstract
Polyethyleneimine-modified magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes were developed to extract 10 mycotoxins. Simple modification of polyethyleneimine was achieved on the magnetic substrate by using an epoxy-containing silane agent as a linker. The resultant magnetic adsorbent was integrated with reverse phase and anion exchange interaction sites. Under optimal extraction conditions, only 20.0 mg adsorbent was used to extract the mycotoxins from 50.0 mL loading solution. The maximum adsorption capacities of the adsorbent toward the mycotoxins ranged from 4.9 to 10.2 mg/g. Adsorption and desorption were completed within 3.0 and 2.0 min, respectively. The adsorbent could be used for six repeated runs without evident change in extraction performance. The adsorbent combined with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was applied further to analyze the mycotoxins in milk. The absolute recoveries of the 10 mycotoxins ranged from 88.3 to 103.5% with relative standard deviations that ranged from 2.4 to 6.5%, and their limits of detection were 0.003 to 0.442 μg/kg. The proposed adsorbent has great potential in the routine analysis of mycotoxins in ordinary analytical chemistry laboratory.

Abstract
An amphiphilic block copolymer consisting of poly(N-acryloyl-glucosamine) (PAGA) and poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) (PtBMA) was designed and grafted on magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (Fe3O4MWCNTs). The resultant Fe3O4MWCNTs@copolymer was proposed as QuEChERS adsorbent for determination of 15 mycotoxins and 25 pesticides in grains via liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The adsorbent was characterized by a transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope, elemental analysis, and other techniques. The common matrix interferences were efficiently removed by the proposed adsorbent, such as pigment, fatty acids, and the saccharide. PAGA segment played an important role in removing the hydrophilic interferences through hydrogen bonding due to the high density of hydroxyl groups. PtBMA segment removed the fatty residues through its strong hydrophobic carbon moiety. In comparison with the commercially available QuEChERS adsorbents, the proposed adsorbent had higher adsorption capacities towards the typical matrix interferences. To achieve satisfactory recoveries of analytes, various parameters in the QuEChERS procedure were comprehensively investigated. Under the optimal conditions, 95.0% of the analytes showed satisfactory recoveries in the range 70.0-120% as well as negligible matrix effects. The limits of detection (LOD) were in the range 0.00015-1.3 μg kg-1. Compared with previously reported QuEChERS methods, the proposed method had improved sensitivity and benefited from low matrix effects. The recoveries of analytes in various grains were in the range 60.8-108% with relative standard deviations (RSD) less than 13%. Moreover, the Fe3O4MWCNTs@copolymer exhibited good synthetic reproducibility and rapid magnetic separation (less than 10 s). The research provides a versatile platform to develop multi-functional QuEChERS adsorbents based on the amphiphilic block copolymer.

Abstract
In the last years, the European Commission has adopted restrictive directives on food quality and safety in order to protect animal and human health. Veterinary drugs represent an important risk and the need to have sensitive and fast analytical techniques to detect and quantify them has become mandatory. Over the years, the availability of different modes, interfaces, and formats has improved the versatility, sensitivity, and speed of capillary electrophoresis (CE) techniques. Thus, CE represents a powerful tool for the analysis of a large variety of food matrices and food-related molecules with important applications in food quality and safety. This review focuses the attention of CE applications over the last decade on the detection of different classes of drugs (used as additives in animal food or present as contaminants in food products) with a potential risk for animal and human health. In addition, considering that the different sample preparation procedures have strongly contributed to CE sensitivity and versatility, the most advanced sample pre-concentration techniques are discussed here.
