Abstract
Background and Objectives: This study demonstrates the factor structure and reliability of the Croatian version of the TOPICOP (Topical Corticosteroid Phobia) questionnaire, thereby contributing to further validation and standardization of the measurement of topical corticophobia with dermatological patients or their parents, which directly affects patient or parent compliance, as well as the final therapeutic effect. Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional, observational study was conducted at the University Hospital Centre Split, Department of Dermatovenerology. The research involved inviting 120 participants (age 12-68) who attended the University Hospital Centre Split's Atopy School, patients examined in the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic of the University Hospital Centre Split and diagnosed with atopic dermatitis (AD) or allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), and parents or legal representatives of patients younger than 12 years old. The TOPICOP questionnaire consists of 12 items assessing the three different components of topical corticophobia (worries, beliefs, and behaviour). Respondents evaluated their perception of the correctness of each statement within 10 min of filling out the questionnaire on a four-point Likert scale. Results: The response rate was 94%, resulting in a sample of 113 respondents (109 adults and 4 children). Factor analysis yielded one common factor of relatively high reliability (Cronbach α = 0.85, 95% CI 0.81 to 0.89). No differences were found in questionnaire scores between male and female participants, nor between the parents/legal representatives of dermatological patients and other patients. Conclusions: This research contributes to further development of the appropriate measuring instrument, its practical application, and thus, the better recognition, resolution, and prevention of topical corticophobia as part of the better overall healthcare and treatment of chronic dermatological patients.

Abstract
Background: Contact dermatitis (CD) is one of the most prevalent skin diseases. It is commonly divided into irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Patch testing is a procedure used to support the diagnosis of ACD. This test should be interpreted along with the clinical history and morphology of the skin lesions to determine clinical relevance. Objective: To describe the sensitization patterns of patients undergoing patch testing with the Latin American baseline series. Methods: A single-center retrospective study was performed. For the study, patients older than 18 years with a clinical diagnosis of contact dermatitis, who underwent patch testing using the Latin American baseline series were considered. These tests took place at the Alma Mater Hospital of Antioquia between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2021. Results: A total of 648 patients were included. Patch tests were positive in 63% of cases, with a mean age of 51.5 years. Around 36.6% had atopy-related diseases. The main occupation was housework (30.7%). The hands were the most affected area in the body (31%). The main allergens were nickel sulfate (34%), sodium tetrachloropalladate (24.2%), and thimerosal (8.0%). Fifteen allergens had a percentage below 1%. Hydrocortisone and budesonide did not yield positive results. Conclusion: Nickel sulfate was the most frequent allergen, and women were the most affected. The information gathered could be useful for adjusting the allergens that should be included in the regional baseline series, taking into account the frequency found.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is an inflammatory disease with a complex pathophysiology in which epidermal-resident memory CD8+ T (TRM ) cells play a key role. The mechanisms involved in the activation of CD8+ TRM cells during allergic flare-up responses are not understood. METHODS The expression of CD100 and its ligand Plexin B2 on CD8+ TRM cells and keratinocytes before and after allergen exposure was determined by flow cytometry and RT-qPCR. The role of CD100 in the inflammatory response during the challenge phase of ACD was determined in a model of ACD in CD100 knockout and wild-type mice. RESULTS We show that CD8+ TRM cells express CD100 during homeostatic conditions and up-regulate it following re-exposure of allergen-experienced skin to the experimental contact allergen 1-fluoro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (DNFB). Furthermore, Plexin B2 is up-regulated on keratinocytes following exposure to some contact allergens. We show that loss of CD100 results in a reduced inflammatory response to DNFB with impaired production of IFNγ, IL-17A, CXCL1, CXCL2, CXCL5, and IL-1β and decreased recruitment of neutrophils to the epidermis. CONCLUSION Our study demonstrates that CD100 is expressed on CD8+ TRM cells and is required for full activation of CD8+ TRM cells and the flare-up response of ACD.

Abstract
In the presence of diseases transmitted through respiratory droplets and direct contact, healthcare workers (HCWs) necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). For optimal safety, PPE should securely conform to the skin during extended wear. However, conventional PPE often lacks adequate air permeability and hygroscopicity, trapping heat and moisture emitted by the body within the enclosure. Such a hot and humid internal environment can induce skin damage, such as erythema, rash, pruritus, and itching among others, leading to microbial growth on the skin surface, the production of inflammatory mediators at the wound site and an increased risk of infection. This review strives to comprehensively elucidate the fundamental mechanisms triggering adverse skin reactions and their resultant manifestations. Furthermore, we explore recent advancements aimed at inhibiting these mechanisms to effectively mitigate the occurrence of skin lesions.

Abstract
Natural products are compounds produced by living organisms and can be divided into two main categories: primary (PMs) and secondary metabolites (SMs). Plant PMs are crucial for plant growth and reproduction since they are directly involved in living cell processes, whereas plant SMs are organic substances directly involved in plant defense and resistance. SMs are divided into three main groups: terpenoids, phenolics and nitrogen-containing compounds. The SMs contain a variety of biological capabilities that can be used as flavoring agents, food additives, plant-disease control, strengthen plant defenses against herbivores and, additionally, it can help plant cells to be better adapted to the physiological stress response. The current review is mainly focusing on certain key elements related to the significance, biosynthesis, classification, biochemical characterization and medical/pharmaceutical uses of the major categories of plant SMs. In addition, the usefulness of SMs in controlling plant diseases, boosting plant resistance and as potential natural, safe, eco-friendly substitutes for chemosynthetic pesticides were also reported in this review.

Abstract
Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to identify which types of skin reactions are associated with slime toys and which of their ingredients are most frequently involved in cases of poisoning. Data source: Between January and July 2021, articles were selected using PubMed, SciELO, and LILACS databases. The following descriptors were used: (dermatitis OR rash OR eczema OR inflammation) AND slime. Inclusion criteria were articles available in full, in either Portuguese, English, or Spanish, published between January 2000 and July 31, 2021, and articles reporting cases of contact dermatitis or eczema potentially or directly attributed to slime toys. Articles not meeting these criteria and duplicate texts in the databases were excluded. Data synthesis: In total, 65 publications were identified, of which 16 were included in this review. This resulted in a total of 22 children (2 males, 20 females), aged between 4 and 13 years, who were reportedly intoxicated by slime toys, most of these being linked to homemade preparations. Studies reported the occurrence of contact or allergic dermatitis on hands, fingers, nails, forearms, and cheeks. The most allergenic and/or irritant ingredients included liquid detergent and soap. Additionally, patch tests identified positive reactions to methylisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone, the preservatives used by chemical industries on preparation of glue, soap, detergents, etc. Conclusions: Although slime toys might be important for improving motor development and parental relationships, homemade slime toy recipes include several allergenic and irritant ingredients which might be exposed to vulnerable children and cause intoxications. Therefore, homemade slime toys preparations should be used cautiously and under the supervision of adults.

Abstract
Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is an allergen-specific T-cell-mediated inflammatory response, albeit with unclear pathogenesis. Exosomes are nanoscale extracellular vesicles secreted by several cell types and widely distributed in various biological fluids. Exosomes affect the occurrence and development of ACD through immunoregulation among other ways. Nevertheless, the role of exosomes in ACD warrants further clarification. This review examines the progress of research into exosomes and their involvement in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of ACD and provides ideas for exploring new diagnostic and treatment methods for this disease.

Abstract
Papulosquamous diseases represent a commonly encountered group of cutaneous disorders in dermatology. Lesions can present with papules and plaques in various configurations, including annular forms. Some of these disorders are expected to appear in annular configurations, such as pityriasis rosea and subcorneal pustular dermatosis. Others may either begin as or even progress to annular configurations, including psoriasis vulgaris, seborrheic dermatitis, and nummular dermatitis. We have reviewed common papulosquamous diseases that can present with annular lesions, which includes psoriasis vulgaris, pityriasis rosea, subcorneal pustular dermatosis, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and nummular dermatitis. For each disorder, we have discussed the details of presentation and differential diseases to be considered.

Abstract
Allergic disease represents one of the most prominent global public health crises of the 21st century. Although many different substances are known to produce hypersensitivity responses, metals constitute one of the major classes of allergens responsible for a disproportionately large segment of the total burden of disease associated with allergy. Some of the most prevalent forms of metal allergy - including allergic contact dermatitis - are well-recognized; however, to our knowledge, a comprehensive review of the many unique disease variants implicated in human cases of metal allergy is not available within the current scientific literature. Consequently, the main goal in composing this review was to (1) generate an up-to-date reference document containing this information to assist in the efforts of lab researchers, clinicians, regulatory toxicologists, industrial hygienists, and other scientists concerned with metal allergy and (2) identify knowledge gaps related to disease. Accordingly, an extensive review of the scientific literature was performed - from which, hundreds of publications describing cases of metal-specific allergic responses in human patients were identified, collected, and analyzed. The information obtained from these articles was then used to compile an exhaustive list of distinctive dermal/ocular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and systemic hypersensitivity responses associated with metal allergy. Abstract
ABSTRACT Pyrethroids are ectoparasiticides safe for mammals and widely used in farm animals. An outbreak of systemic intoxication with irritant contact dermatitis resulting from the use of cypermethrin pour on in dairy cows is reported in the state of Pernambuco. Eight adult animals were affected, three died on the property and five were referred to the Clínica de Bovinos, Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Campus Garanhuns. These received 100 mL of pour on Cypermethrin (Ectonil ®, Cipermetrina, Labgard, Brasil). Apathy, hyperexcitability, muscle tremors, sialorrhea, bradycardia and crusted lesions were observed on the dorsum of the neck, scapula, ears and ulcerations in the oral and vaginal mucosa. There was hyperfibrinogenemia and leukocytosis due to neutrophilia with a regenerative left shift. Histopathology showed areas of erosion and ulceration of the epidermis and perivascular lymphohistiocytic and neutrophilic infiltrate in the superficial dermis. Supportive treatment was done with improvement of systemic signs and skin lesions, however, in one animal (with 19 days hospitalized), there was no complete regression of neurological alterations of bradycardia and muscle tremors, even so, it was possible to return to productive activity. High doses of pour on cypermethrin may cause systemic intoxication in cattle and result in bradycardia, hyperexcitability, muscle tremors and sialorrhea with irritant contact dermatitis, and death in severe cases.

Abstract
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) enforced the use of hand sanitation and of personal protective equipment, such as masks and visors, especially by health‐care professionals, but also by the general public. However, frequent hand sanitation and the prolonged and continuous use of personal protective equipment are responsible for constant frictional and pressure forces on skin causing lesions, the most reported being acne, facial itching, dryness, and rash. Thus, it is important to find measures to prevent skin lesions, in order to improve the quality of life of health‐care professionals and of the general public. This article gathers the current information regarding measures to prevent human to human transmission of COVID‐19, reviews the most common skin lesions caused by the use of hand sanitizers and different types of personal protective equipment, and the possible preventive measures that can be used on a daily basis to minimize the risk of developing skin‐related pathologies. Daily skin care routines and the incorporation of a dressing between the skin and the personal protective equipment to serve as a protective barrier are some of the applied measures. Moisturizers and dressings improve the skin's ability to respond to constant aggressions. Lastly, the need for additional studies to evaluate the lubrication properties of different types of dressings is discussed. The understanding of what kind of dressing is more suitable to prevent pressure injuries is crucial to promote healthy skin and wellbeing during pandemic times.

Abstract
Purpose: The clinical features of eczema and dermatitis in the elderly have not been fully studied. To investigate the proportion and clinical features of geriatric eczema patients in mainland China. Patients and methods: A multicenter cross-sectional study conducted in outpatients with eczema from 39 tertiary hospitals in 15 provinces. Results: 1128 elderly patients (12.88%) had eczema and dermatitis. The mean age of those was 68.2 ± 6.8 years (range, 60–90 years) with a median course of 5.5 ± 8.9 years, which is much longer than that of non-geriatric patients (2.6 ± 4.1 years, p < 0.001). Compared to non-geriatric patients, more patients involved in extremities (76.2% vs 61.5%, p < 0.001) and trunk (37.2% vs 26.4%, p < 0.001), but less in head and neck (18.3% vs 30.4%, p < 0.001; 25.3% vs 20.6%, p < 0.001). 13.4% of eczema and dermatitis in the elderly was widespread, which is much higher than that of 8% in non-geriatric group (13.4% vs 8%, p < 0.001). 22.9% of geriatric eczema patients reported severe itching, which is much higher than that of 14% in counterparts (22.9% vs 14%, p < 0.001). A positive correlation was observed between age and severe itching (Spearman’s rank correlation test, p < 0.001). More geriatric patients had xerosis (39.6% vs 30.4%, p < 0.001) and more lichenification was found (25.6% vs 13.3%, p < 0.001). Conclusion: More than 10% of eczema occurs in the elderly patients. Longer disease duration, more severe itching, more extremities and trunk involvement, and prone to widespread, xerosis, and lichenification make it a special entity which should be studied further.

Abstract
Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and atopic dermatitis (AD) are inflammatory eczematous skin diseases caused by various factors. Here, we report that topical application of the dipeptide, L-glutamic acid-L-tryptophan (L-Glu-L-Trp), improved symptoms in both ACD and AD in mice. Using a mouse model of ACD induced by repeated application of 2,4-dinitorofluorbenzene (DNFB), we demonstrated that L-Glu-L-Trp attenuated DNFB-induced skin thickening. In addition, quantification of cytokines in serum revealed that L-Glu-L-Trp suppressed the DNFB-induced increase in the interleukin (IL)-22 level. Moreover, L-Glu-L-Trp attenuated mite antigen extract-induced AD model symptoms such as the increase of skin thickening and elevation of serum IL-22. We also confirmed that the dipeptide structure rather than the individual amino acid components was important for the therapeutic effects of L-Glu-L-Trp. Furthermore, we showed that IL-22 decreased the expression level of filaggrin mRNA in human epidermal keratinocytes, and L-Glu-L-Trp attenuated that effect. These results suggested that the topical application of the dipeptide, L-Glu-L-Trp, to the skin may be useful for treating ACD and AD.

Abstract
IL-10+ regulatory B (Breg) cells play a vital role in regulating the immune responses in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, colitis, and contact hypersensitivity (CHS). Several sti-mulants such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS), CD40 ligand, and IL-21 spur the activation and maturation of IL-10+ Breg cells, while the epigenetic mechanism for the IL-10 expression remains largely unknown. It is well accepted that the histone acetylation/deacetylation is an important mechanism that regulates the expression of IL-10. We found that entinostat, an HDAC inhibitor, stimulated the induction of IL-10+ Breg cells by LPS in vitro and the formation of IL-10+ Breg cells to suppress CHS in vivo. We further demonstrated that entinostat inhibited HDAC1 from binding to the proximal region of the IL-10 expression promoter in splenic B cells, followed by an increase in the binding of NF-κB p65, eventually enhancing the expression of IL-10 in Breg cells.

Abstract
Shoe dermatitis is a type of contact dermatitis precipitated by allergens or irritants found in shoes. Potassium dichromate, commonly used in leather processing, is one of the most prevalent agents responsible for shoe dermatitis; however, it is not the only one. Shoe dermatitis caused by an allergen or an irritant may affect a person of any age, sex, or ethnicity. Numerous treatments exist for shoe dermatitis, the most simple yet important being avoidance of causative agents. Pharmaceutical agents commonly used are emollients, humectants, and topical corticosteroids. In more severe cases, topical calcineurin inhibitors and phototherapy may be used.

Abstract
Community pharmacists represent an important resource for the promotion of a safer and more effective self-management of common skin diseases, as well as the provision of educational support on therapies prescribed by clinicians, ultimately improving patients’ adherence. In this study, a semi-structured survey was administered to 154 Italian community pharmacists, in order to acquire information on their counseling activity on dermatological disorders. Collected data provide an overview on the frequency and methodology of counseling offered in Italian community pharmacies, identifying knowledge gaps and misbeliefs. In particular, an overall negative opinion on topical corticosteroid therapy emerged among pharmacists, unveiling a phenomenon previously described as corticophobia. Starting from this observation, we discuss the risks for patients’ adherence, associated with corticophobia among pharmacists. Lastly, we briefly report on the main tools desired by pharmacists to improve their education on dermatology, envisioning their implementation with the aim of a more effective counseling.

Abstract
Chemical penetration enhancer (CPE) is a preferred approach to improve drug permeability through the skin, due to its unique advantages of simple use and high compatibility. However, CPEs efficiency and safety problems frequently arise, which greatly restrains the further application in transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS). To get access to the root of problems, the efficiency and safety of CPEs are reviewed especially from molecular perspectives, which include (1) the possible factors of CPEs low efficiency; (2) the possible contribution of CPEs in the evolution of safety problems such as skin irritation and allergic reaction; (3) the interactive relationship between CPEs efficiency and safety, as well as the bottlenecks of achieving their balance. More importantly, based on these, recent advances are summarized in improving efficiency or safety of CPEs, which offers a guidance of rationally selecting CPEs in future research.

Skin lesions caused by allergic contact dermatitis are an important occupational and environmental disease. Patch testing is the gold-standard procedure used to diagnose allergic contact dermatitis.The present chapter summarizes aspects of patch testing for the diagnosis of contact allergy: important working definitions, relevance of treating contact dermatitis, materials, technique, test result and interpretation, and special consideration regarding individual factors which influence the patch test outcome or necessitate special attention.Performing and interpreting patch tests requires know-how. Knowing how to perform them and the particularities of specific cases is essential to correctly interpret the results. A correct evaluation and diagnosis will significantly impact the natural history of the disease and significantly improve the quality of life of the patient.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We present a case series of 10, atopic, African women who developed irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) from synthetic hair extensions. METHODS Ten consecutive African female patients who presented with a pruritic cutaneous eruption on the neck over a period of 2 years are described. Patients underwent skin patch testing using both standard and hair commercial patch test panels and samples of their own hair extensions. Hair care products were not tested. RESULTS All 10 patients used synthetic hair extensions. A strong history of atopy was documented for all the patients and examination was significant for eczematous, lichenified plaques at the location of contact with the free end of the hair extension. Patch test results yielded no relevant reactivity and a diagnosis of ICD was made for all patients. The lesions resolved completely on removal of the hair extensions and the use of topical steroids and emollients, dependent on eczema severity. CONCLUSIONS Artificial hair extensions should be considered as a potential irritant, resulting in ICD. Patients with a history of atopy are at risk of developing ICD from synthetic hair extensions.

Abstract
Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a common allergic skin disease that affects individuals subjected to different antigen exposure conditions and significantly impacts the quality of life of those affected. Numerous studies have demonstrated that probiotics suppress inflammation through immunomodulatory effects. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of the probiotic Bifidobacterium longum 51A as a preventive treatment for ACD using an oxazolone-induced murine model. We demonstrated that B. longum 51A exerted a prophylactic effect on oxazolone-induced ACD-like skin inflammation via reductions in ear and dermal thickness and leucocyte infiltration. The administration of inactivated B. longum 51A did not affect oxazolone-induced ACD-like skin inflammation, suggesting that the bacteria must be alive to be effective. Given that B. longum 51A is an acetate producer, we treated mice with acetate intraperitoneally, which also prevented ear and dermal thickening. Moreover, the tissue levels of the inflammatory cytokines and chemokines interleukin (IL)-10, IL-33, tumour necrosis factor-α, chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2/monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 5/RANTES were significantly reduced after probiotic treatment, but only IL-33 and IL-10 were reduced when the mice were treated with acetate. These results show that B. longum 51A exerted a potential prophylactic effect on skin inflammation and that acetate represents one potential mechanism. However, other factors are likely involved since these two treatments do not yield the same results.

Abstract
Simple Summary A flash glucose monitoring system (FGMS) has been validated for use in dogs with diabetes mellitus and diabetic ketoacidosis. It continuously measures the glucose in the interstitial fluid through a small filament (5 mm long) inserted under the skin. Interstitial glucose concentrations are reportedly comparable to whole blood glucose concentrations. However, several factors can influence the performance of interstitial sensors, including the proportion of interstitial fluid in a tissue. The influence of skin thickness on flash glucose monitoring system accuracy has not been investigated in previous studies; therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate whether FGMS accuracy is affected by skin thickness. On the basis of our results, skin thickness seems to affect FGMS measurements; the mean bias was significantly inversely correlated (p = 0.02; r = −0.6) with the mean skin thickness, and clinical accuracy according to ISO 15197:2013 criteria was observed only in dogs with skin thickness > 5 mm, with 99% of the results falling in zone A + B of the Parkes consensus error grid analysis. In dogs with thin skin (<5 mm), the clinical accuracy was low, and the results should be interpreted with caution. Abstract
BACKGROUND Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) are common skin conditions with an overlapping clinical and histological appearance, but distinct underlying mechanisms. Patch testing is the gold standard for ACD diagnosis, yet the interpretation of its results may be confounded by weak and varying macroscopic reactions. OBJECTIVE To examine whether gene transcript profiling of RNA sampled from patch tested patient skin by tape stripping (TS) could differentiate ACD from ICD and the baseline skin state (control) METHODS: Nine patients (seven females, two males; mean age 38.6 years, range 24-72 years) with confirmed ACD through patch testing were recruited. Total RNA was isolated from TS samples and relative transcript abundance was determined by quantitative real-time polymeraise chain reaction using 39 gene-specific primers. RESULTS TS captured gene transcripts derived from diverse skin cell types, including not only keratinocytes, but also epidermal and dermal antigen-presenting cells. Among the genes analysed in transcript profiling, genes encoding epidermal barrier components and inflammatory mediators exhibited changes in transcript abundance in ACD skin compared to ICD or control skin. CONCLUSIONS Our findings reveal the potential of skin TS for non-invasive biopsy during patch testing and molecular marker-based ACD diagnosis.

Abstract
Contact dermatitis tremendously impacts the quality of life of suffering patients. Currently, diagnostic regimes rely on allergy testing, exposure specification, and follow-up visits; however, distinguishing the clinical phenotype of irritant and allergic contact dermatitis remains challenging. Employing integrative transcriptomic analysis and machine-learning approaches, we aimed to decipher disease-related signature genes to find suitable sets of biomarkers. A total of 89 positive patch-test reaction biopsies against four contact allergens and two irritants were analyzed via microarray. Coexpression network analysis and Random Forest classification were used to discover potential biomarkers and selected biomarker models were validated in an independent patient group. Differential gene-expression analysis identified major gene-expression changes depending on the stimulus. Random Forest classification identified CD47, BATF, FASLG, RGS16, SYNPO, SELE, PTPN7, WARS, PRC1, EXO1, RRM2, PBK, RAD54L, KIFC1, SPC25, PKMYT, HISTH1A, TPX2, DLGAP5, TPX2, CH25H, and IL37 as potential biomarkers to distinguish allergic and irritant contact dermatitis in human skin. Validation experiments and prediction performances on external testing datasets demonstrated potential applicability of the identified biomarker models in the clinic. Capitalizing on this knowledge, novel diagnostic tools can be developed to guide clinical diagnosis of contact allergies.

Abstract
Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), a delayed hypersensitivity skin reaction to environmental allergens, has a prevalence that is similar in children and adults. However, diagnostic testing for ACD in pediatric populations accounts for less than one tenth of all patch tests. The relative infrequency of pediatric patch testing may be attributed to the difficulty in testing in this population, which includes a smaller surface area for patch test placement and maintaining cooperation during patch testing, especially in younger children. Diagnosis can be difficult in children because the appearance of ACD can mimic other common pediatric skin conditions, particularly atopic dermatitis and irritant contact dermatitis. Comprehensive history taking, guided by patient presentation, age group, and location of dermatitis, helps build clinical suspicion. Such clinical suspicion is one of the major reasons behind patch testing, with additional indications being recalcitrant dermatitis and dermatitis with atypical distribution. US pediatric data have shown the top allergens to be metals, fragrances, topical antibiotics, preservatives, and emollients. These trends are important to recognize to guide management and accurate diagnosis, because ACD tends to persist if the allergen is not identified and can affect patients' quality of life.

Abstract
Slime and Play-Doh have been gaining popularity among adolescents and preteens. Both are gooey, viscoelastic substances that can be morphed and molded into virtually anything imaginable. Slime can be made from several household products including school glue and borax, which have both been linked to cases of irritant and allergic contact dermatitis, conditions that historically involve activation of many immune-regulatory cells such as Langerhans' cells and T cells. We review the rising incidence of contact dermatitis related to Slime and Play-Doh, pathogenesis, and hallmark findings, along with several treatment options to help clinicians expediently diagnose and treat the condition.

Abstract
The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) provides a common language for use worldwide as a diagnostic and classification tool for epidemiology, clinical purposes and health management. Since its first edition, the ICD has maintained a framework distributing conditions according to topography, with the result that some complex conditions, such as allergies and hypersensitivity disorders (A/H) including anaphylaxis, have been poorly represented. The change in hierarchy in ICD-11 permitted the construction of the pioneer section addressed to A/H, which may result in more accurate mortality and morbidity statistics, including more accurate accounting for mortality due to anaphylaxis, strengthen classification, terminology and definitions. The ICD-11 was presented and adopted by the 72nd World Health Assembly in May 2019, and the implementation is ongoing worldwide. We here present the outcomes from an online survey undertaken to reach out the allergy community worldwide in order to peer review the terminology, classification and definitions of A/H introduced into ICD-11 and to support their global implementation. Data are presented here for 406 respondents from 74 countries. All of the subsections of the new A/H section of the ICD-11 had been considered with good accuracy by the majority of respondents. We believe that, in addition to help during the implementation phase, all the comments provided will help to improve the A/H classification and to increase awareness by different disciplines of what actions are needed to ensure more accurate epidemiological data and better clinical management of A/H patients.

Abstract
Objectives: Sensitization of allergens varies among societies and also it is influenced by various factors, such as age and gender. It may even change over the years. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the patch test results in patients with contact dermatitis (CD) in our center. Methods: European standard series patch test results of patients with CD between 2017 and 2018 were evaluated retrospectively. Results: Of the 135 patients, 65 (48.1%) were males, 70 (51.9%) were females. The mean age of patients was 41.43±14.26 (11-78) years. In 78 (57.8%) patients, a positive reaction against at least one allergen was detected. The most common allergens were nickel sulfate (27.4%), potassium dichromate (14.8%), cobalt chloride (11.9%), textile dye mix (8.1%), fragrance mix i, ii (6.7%) and balsam of Peru (4.4%). The sensitization of nickel sulfate was higher in females and sensitization of cobalt chloride and potassium dichromate in males (p=0.03, 0.05, 0.03, respectively). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, age was independently related to a positive reaction against at least one allergen. Conclusion: Nickel sulfate, potassium dichromate, cobalt chloride and textile dye mix were the most common allergens. Legal regulations should be made to decrease exposure to allergens.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Atopic dermatitis (AD), chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU), and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) represent three important allergic dermatoses with many unmet therapeutic needs. The development of biologic agents has opened the door to both new treatment options and improved understanding of the underlying pathophysiology, both shared and unique for these entities. With several FDA-approved medications available and many more in development, the biologic revolution has begun for allergic dermatoses. RECENT FINDINGS This is a narrative review on the current state of pathomechanisms and appropriately targeted biologic agents for these three common allergic skin conditions. The importance of Th2 inflammation and the effect of inflammatory cytokines on the skin barrier may help explain the impressive efficacy of biologic agents, while maintaining relative safety. While some of the biologic agents show efficacy across multiple allergic dermatoses, more often it seems these more targeted pathways show accordingly precise efficacy. However, in each disease, multiple agents hold promise, and may be differentiated by safety and adverse effect profile rather than simply by efficacy. New understanding of the pathogenesis of the allergic dermatoses has ushered in a new era of biologic therapies. Competing mechanisms and molecules will continue to be developed and vetted in trials with hopes of continuously refined precision therapies with optimized safety and efficacy profiles.

Abstract
Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a common inflammatory skin disease with a prevalence of approximately 20% in the European population. ACD is caused by contact allergens that are reactive chemicals able to modify non-immunogenic self-proteins to become immunogenic proteins. The most frequent contact allergens are metals, fragrances, and preservatives. ACD clinically manifests as pruritic eczematous lesions, erythema, local papules, and oedema. ACD is a T cell-mediated disease, involving both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. In addition, γδ T cells appear to play an important role in the immune response to contact allergens. However, it is debated whether γδ T cells act in a pro- or anti-inflammatory manner. A special subset of γδ T cells, named dendritic epidermal T cells (DETC), is found in the epidermis of mice and it plays an important role in immunosurveillance of the skin. DETC are essential in sensing the contact allergen-induced stressed environment. Thus, allergen-induced activation of DETC is partly mediated by numerous allergen-induced stress proteins expressed on the keratinocytes (KC). Several stress proteins, like mouse UL-16-binding protein-like transcript 1 (Mult-1), histocompatibility 60 (H60) and retinoic acid early inducible-1 (Rae-1) α-ε family in mice and major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I-chain-related A (MICA) in humans, are upregulated on allergen-exposed KC. Allergen-induced stress proteins expressed on the KC are consequently recognized by NKG2D receptor on DETC. This review focuses on the role of γδ T cells in ACD, with DETC in the spotlight, and on the role of stress proteins in contact allergen-induced activation of DETC.

Abstract
Allergy refers to an abnormal adaptive immune response to non-infectious environmental substances (allergen) that can induce various diseases such as asthma, atopic dermatitis, and allergic rhinitis. In this allergic inflammation, various immune cells, such as B cells, T cells, and mast cells, are involved and undergo complex interactions that cause a variety of pathophysiological conditions. In immune cells, calcium ions play a crucial role in controlling intracellular Ca2+ signaling pathways. Cations, such as Na+, indirectly modulate the calcium signal generation by regulating cell membrane potential. This intracellular Ca2+ signaling is mediated by various cation channels; among them, the Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) family is present in almost all immune cell types, and each channel has a unique function in regulating Ca2+ signals. In this review, we focus on the role of TRP ion channels in allergic inflammatory responses in T cells and mast cells. In addition, the TRP ion channels, which are attracting attention in clinical practice in relation to allergic diseases, and the current status of the development of therapeutic agents that target TRP channels are discussed.

Abstract
Background Accelerators in medical gloves are a common cause of allergic contact dermatitis among healthcare workers. Objective A systematic review of medical and nursing literature, patch testing reports, and chemical analyses of gloves was conducted to assess accelerator contents reported in the literature and to identify accelerator-free gloves. Methods A systematic literature search was performed in OVID Medline and OVID EMBASE. Hand-searching of reference lists of articles in the field and author input generated the remainder of articles assessed. Results We present an inventory of accelerator contents of gloves and accelerator-free glove options as reported in the literature as a clinical reference tool to assist allergen-free glove selection for individuals suffering from allergic contact dermatitis due to rubber accelerators. Limitations Pertinent limitations of our review include lack of predefined study exclusion criteria and screening of the studies identified in the search by 1 review author only. Conclusion The glove inventory we provide summarizes the available literature regarding medical and surgical glove accelerator content, describing gloves both by brand and manufacturer as well as by accelerators.

Abstract
Local anesthetics are essential medications for the conduction of dermatological procedures. They stop the depolarization of nerve fibers and are divided into two main categories, the amide and ester types. Systemic toxicity with reflex on the central nervous and cardiovascular systems is their most feared adverse reactions, and the anaphylactic reaction is the most concerning one. Although potentially fatal, these events are extremely rare, so local anesthetics are considered safe for use in in-office procedures.

Abstract
Inflammatory disorders result from abnormal immune response and their incidence has increased recently. Thus, there is an urgent need to discover new treatments for inflammatory disorders. In recent years, the natural products contained in Chinese herbs have attracted much attention worldwide owing to their anti-inflammatory effects. Paeoniflorin (PF) is a bioactive compound purified from the Chinese herb Paeonia lactiflora and reports have recently emerged suggesting the great potential of P. lactiflora as an agent to counter inflammatory disorders. The anti-inflammatory effects of PF have been revealed by in vitro studies and in vivo animal experiments of different inflammatory disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, and asthma. This review systematically describes the recent progress of studies on the mechanism of PF and its therapeutic potential in inflammatory disorders.

Abstract
Background: Along with increased usage of continuous glucose monitors, flash glucose monitors, and patch pumps by patients with diabetes, the frequency of skin reactions has also increased. Skin irritation and itching can be annoying to users. However, more serious contact allergies to one or more components of the adhesives or plastic material of the housing of the devices can become lifelong. Redness and itchiness are so strong that patients can no longer use a particular system. In August 2017, a major culprit allergen, isobornyl acrylate (IBOA), was identified for these more serious reactions. Objectives: Our objective was to evaluate IBOA content in different medical products. Methods: The plastic material used for the housing of the Freestyle Libre (n = 3), Dexcom G6 (n = 3), and Enlite (n = 4) was analyzed for IBOA content by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Adhesives of the different systems were also analyzed. Results: IBOA was found in the housings of Freestyle Libre and Enlite sensor, but not in the Dexcom G6. Conclusions: Patients with an IBOA allergy should consider switching to a medical product without IBOA. Furthermore, removal of IBOA from devices that contact the skin is encouraged.

Introduction: Irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) and allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) are inflammatory skin diseases accompanied by itch and pain. Irritant contact dermatitis is caused by chemical irritants eliciting an innate immune response, whereas ACD is induced by haptens additionally activating an adaptive immune response: After initial exposure (sensitization) to the hapten, a subsequent challenge can lead to a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction. But, the sensory and inflammatory effects of sensitization (ICD) vs challenge of ACD are insufficiently studied. Therefore, we compared itch- and pain-like behaviors and inflammatory reactions evoked in mice during the sensitization (ICD) vs challenge phase (ACD) of application of the hapten, squaric acid dibutylester (SADBE). Objectives: Our aim was to compare itch- and pain-like behaviors and inflammatory reactions evoked in mice during the sensitization (ICD) vs challenge phase (ACD) of application of the hapten, squaric acid dibutylester (SADBE). Methods: Mice were sensitized on the abdomen with 1% SADBE (ACD) or vehicle treated (ICD, control). Spontaneous and stimulus-evoked itch- and pain-like behaviors were recorded in mice before and after 3 daily challenges of the cheek with 1% SADBE (ACD, ICD). Cutaneous inflammation was evaluated with clinical scoring, ultrasound imaging, skin thickness, histology, and analyses of selected biomarkers for contact dermatitis, IL-1β, TNF-α, CXCL10, and CXCR3. Results: Allergic contact dermatitis vs ICD mice exhibited more spontaneous site-directed scratching (itch) and wiping (pain). Allergic contact dermatitis—but not ICD—mice exhibited allodynia and hyperalgesia to mechanical and heat stimuli. Inflammatory mediators IL-1β and TNF-α were upregulated in both groups as well as the chemokine receptor, CXCR3. CXCL10, a CXCR3 ligand, was upregulated only for ACD. Inflammatory responses were more pronounced in ACD than ICD. Conclusion: These findings provide new information for differentiating the behavioral and inflammatory reactions to hapten-induced ICD and ACD.

Abstract
Introduction Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a form of dermatitis due to type 4 hypersensitivity reaction that occurs when the skin comes into contacts with the topical product. Topical nitrofurazone is a widely used antimicrobial drug in our country which is well known to cause ACD. Aim In this study, ACD cases with different clinical features attributed to the use of nitrofurazone were evaluated. Material and methods Patients hospitalized in our clinic between 2013 and 2017 with ACD diagnosis due to nitrofurazone were evaluated. The patient age, gender, atopy histories, clinical features, dissemination of the lesions, treatment given were reviewed. Results In a 5-year period, 58 cases were identified and their data were analysed. Twelve patients were female (21%), 46 patients were male (79%). Clinical presentations were dyshidrosiform (45%), excoriated papules and plaques (33%), combined (21%), and erythroderma in one patient. The dissemination was generalized in 34 patients, localized in 14 patients, and local spread in 10 patients. The mean hospitalization time was 7 ±3 days, and ranged from 3 to 18 days. Conclusions There may be widespread and severe ACD due to the use of nitrofurazone. Topical nitrofurazone should not be applied on damaged skin as sensitization may develop. Patients and physicians should be aware of the ACD risk associated with topical nitrofurazone, which is also commonly used as self-medication, physicians should take a detailed history of the drug use and products containing nitrofurazone should not be used in conditions where skin integrity is not intact, whenever possible.

Abstract
We recently found that the dietary long chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (LC-ω-3 PUFA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), showed enhanced antineoplastic activity against colon cancer cells if encapsulated in resveratrol-based solid lipid nanoparticles (RV-SLNs). In the present study, we investigated whether the DHA enclosed in RV-SLNs (DHA-RV-SLNs) could have the potential of attenuating irritation and inflammation caused by environmental factors at the skin level. To this aim, we used two keratinocyte lines (HaCaT and NCTC 2544 cells) and exposed them to the cytotoxic action of the surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), as an in vitro model of irritation, or to the pro-inflammatory activity of the cytokine TNF-α. We found that DHA enclosed in RV-SLNs significantly enhanced its ability to contrast the cytotoxic effect of SDS and to inhibit the SDS- and TNF-α-induced production of the inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, and 1 MCP-1, in the two keratinocyte cell lines, as well as the NLRP3 inflammasome activation. Moreover, it more efficiently reduced the upsurge of reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels obtained in the presence of a pro-oxidant (H2O2). Overall, our findings suggest the possibility that a sustained dietary supplementation with DHA-RV-SLNs could efficiently protect skin from the pro-irritant and pro-inflammatory activity of environmental attacks.

Abstract
Dermatologic diagnosis and monitoring have been dependent largely on visual grading. A skin biopsy is performed in case of diagnostic uncertainty, but can be traumatic, and results are delayed due to time for specimen transport and processing. Biopsies also destroy specimens, prohibiting lesion evolution monitoring. In vivo reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) offers a diagnostic alternative to skin biopsy. RCM captures real-time, high-resolution images, and has been piloted for the evaluation of various dermatologic conditions. Identification of unique RCM features may distinguish dermatoses with similar clinical morphologies. Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) and irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) are diagnosed by patch testing that currently uses a subjective scoring system. RCM has increasingly been studied for early detection and severity grading of CD. Common RCM features shared by ACD and ICD are stratum corneum disruption, vesicle formation, exocytosis, spongiosis, and parakeratosis. Features unique to ACD are vasodilation, increased epidermal thickness, intercellular edema, and acanthosis. Features unique to ICD are detached corneocytes and targetoid keratinocytes. This review summarizes the use of RCM in evaluating contact eccematous conditions and aims to spark future research and interest in this promising tool.
