Abstract
Understanding how the infectious disease burden was affected throughout the COVID-19 pandemic is pivotal to identifying potential hot spots and guiding future mitigation measures. Therefore, our study aimed to analyze the changes in the rate of new cases of Poland's most frequent infectious diseases during the entire COVID-19 pandemic and after the influx of war refugees from Ukraine. We performed a registry-based population-wide study in Poland to analyze the changes in the rate of 24 infectious disease cases from 2020 to 2023 and compared them to the prepandemic period (2016-2019). Data were collected from publicly archived datasets of the Epimeld database published by national epidemiological authority institutions. The rate of most of the studied diseases (66.6%) revealed significantly negative correlations with the rate of SARS-CoV-2 infections. For the majority of infectious diseases, it substantially decreased in 2020 (in case of 83%) and 2021 (63%), following which it mostly rebounded to the prepandemic levels and, in some cases, exceeded them in 2023 when the exceptionally high annual rates of new cases of scarlet fever, Streptococcus pneumoniae infections, HIV infections, syphilis, gonococcal infections, and tick-borne encephalitis were noted. The rate of Clostridioides difficile enterocolitis was two-fold higher than before the pandemic from 2021 onward. The rate of Legionnaires' disease in 2023 also exceeded the prepandemic threshold, although this was due to a local outbreak unrelated to lifted COVID-19 pandemic restrictions or migration of war refugees. The influx of war migrants from Ukraine could impact the epidemiology of sexually transmitted diseases. The present analysis indicates that continued efforts are needed to prevent COVID-19 from overwhelming healthcare systems again and decreasing the control over the burden of other infectious diseases. It also identifies the potential tipping points that require additional mitigation measures, which are also discussed in the paper, to avoid escalation in the future.

Abstract
cSCC (cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma) and its precursors are a major cause of morbidity, especially in immunosuppressed patients, and are frequently associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infections. The purpose of this study is to investigate the therapeutic potential of alpha-HPV vaccination for immunosuppressed patients with established cSCC and its precursors. In this retrospective study, all patients who received Gardasil-9®, a nonavalent HPV vaccine, as secondary prophylaxis were examined. Dermatologic interventions in both the pre- and post-vaccination periods were analyzed with zero-inflated Poisson regression and a proportional intensity model for repeated events with consideration of the clinically relevant cofactors. The hazard ratio for major dermatologic interventions was 0.27 (CI 0.14-0.51, p < 0.001) between pre- and post-Gardasil-9® intervention. Gardasil-9® vaccination showed good efficacy in reducing major dermatologic interventions even after correction of relevant cofactors and national COVID-19 caseloads during the observational period. Alpha-HPV vaccination may potentially cause a significant decrease in dermatologic interventions and overall mortality as well as healthcare costs in immunosuppressed patients with high skin tumor burden.

Abstract
It is hypothesized that the COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the epidemiology of malignant melanoma owing to diminished screening, diagnostic, and treatment capacities, resulting in a more advanced stage at initial presentation. The goal of this study is to undertake a systematic analysis of all epidemiological and clinical data on the trends and patient outcomes with malignant melanoma during the ongoing pandemic. Records were identified from PubMed, Cochrane, and Web of Science, selecting a total of 39 articles, narrative reviews, and editorial letters, following the PRISMA guidelines. The vast majority of the studies were published in Europe (28/39), and North America (7/39). A total of 99,860 patients were analyzed during 2020 and 2021 of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was observed that malignant melanoma TNM staging increased significantly compared to the pre-pandemic period. Before the pandemic, 25.88% of patients had TNM stage II or above, compared to 36.25% during 2020-2021. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the malignant melanoma Breslow depth index grew from 1.59 mm before 2020 to 1.86 mm in 2020 and 2021. Patients decreased by 19.58% in 2020 and 2021 compared to pre-pandemic numbers. The patient-loss ratio indicated lower screening activity and patient addressability to dermatology and plastic surgery departments with skin cancer concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. This systematic study shows that the identification and management of malignant melanoma during the COVID-19 pandemic faced major challenges which should alert medical systems to the high number of patients with advanced disease stages who may need emergency treatment and become incurable.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The new coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on global health and economic growth. A widely used vaccine is the weakened inactivated severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus (Sinopharm). Following major SARS-CoV-2 vaccination campaigns, cutaneous symptoms are on the rise. METHODS This study is a prospective observational study evaluating cutaneous reactions and time of recovery after Sinopharm vaccination. The cases involved were over the age of 18. The data were anonymized. On the registry's vaccine section, we tracked vaccination dates, skin reactions, and recovery times. All respondents who reported only a cutaneous reaction to the first vaccination dose received a follow-up contact asking about a second vaccination dose cutaneous reaction. RESULTS The study included 4560 cases. The mean age of all studied cases was 41.2 ± 6.1 years. There were dermatologic complications in 1190 patients (26.1%). There was induration at the injection site in 495 patients (10.9%), urticaria in 210 patients (4.6%), morbilliform eruption in 375 patients (8.2%), flare of skin site in 105 patients (2.3%), and angioedema in 105 patients (2.3%). The mean recovery days in all studied patients were 2.92 ± 0.94 days with a minimum recovery period of 2 days and a maximum of 7 days. CONCLUSIONS Because Sinopharm's cutaneous reactions are frequently mild and self-limiting, vaccination should not be discouraged based on these findings. If the first vaccine dose creates a cutaneous reaction, there is no need to skip the second dose.

Abstract
Introduction: The recent COVID-19 pandemic has compromised socio-health care, with consequences for the diagnosis and follow-up of other pathologies. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on cancer diagnosis in Girona, Spain. Methodology: Observational study of samples received in two pathology laboratories during 2019–2020 (tertiary hospital in Girona and county hospital in Figueres). Date, sample type, and location and morphology were available. Samples were recoded to determine malignancy and grouped by location. Comparisons were made by calendar year and period of exposure to COVID-19. Results: 102,360 samples were included: 80,517 from Girona and 21,843 from Figueres. The reduction in activity in the pathology laboratories in 2020 compared to the previous year was 25.4% in Girona and 27.5% in Figueres. The reduction in cancer diagnoses in 2020 compared to 2019 was 6.8% in Girona and 21% in Figueres. In both laboratories, a decrease was observed in the diagnoses of neoplasms of the lip, oral cavity and pharynx, larynx, colon, rectum and anus, kidney and urinary system, melanoma, and central nervous system. A statistically significant higher probability of a sample received in the pathology laboratory displaying malignancy during COVID-19 was found (Girona: OR = 1.28, 95% CI: 1.23–1.34; Figueres: OR = 1.10, 95% CI: 1.01–1.20) with respect to the COVID-19-free period. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a reduction in cancer diagnoses by pathology departments that varies according to tumor location and type of hospital. Despite this, the optimization of care resources and the recovery effort have partially reduced the impact of the pandemic in certain neoplasms.

Abstract
Introduction The pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) has had an unprecedented impact on the overall health and the global economy. Vaccination is currently the most dependable strategy to end the pandemic, despite the slower‐than‐hoped‐for rollout, particularly for low‐to‐middle‐income countries, and the uncertain duration of protection afforded by vaccination. The spike protein of the virus (immunodominant antigen of the virus) is the main target of the approved and candidate SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccines. This protein binds to the ACE2 receptor of the host cell, initiating the entry of the virus into the cell and the chain of subsequent events ending to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. The safety profile of these vaccines needs is closely assessed. Methods This comprehensive review includes searching the PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases using the keywords “coronavirus”, “COVID‐19”, “vaccine”, “cutaneous reactions”, “allergic reactions”, and “SARS‐CoV‐2”. Manual searching of reference lists of included articles augmented the research. The research was updated in June 2021. Results In this narrative review, we tried to investigate and discuss the cutaneous and allergic reactions related to SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccines currently available in the literature. As a result, although COVID‐19 vaccines can be reported to develop allergic and anaphylactic reactions, especially after m‐RNA vaccines, they remain at a low rate, and it is observed that these reactions may develop more frequently, especially in patients with previous allergies and mast cell disorders. Fortunately, these reactions are generally transient, benign, self‐limited. Conclusion Although there is still no definitive evidence, as dermatologists, we must be aware of the possibility of cutaneous reactions, newly diagnosed dermatoses, or exacerbation of existing dermatoses that may develop after the COVID‐19 vaccinations.

Virtual conferences and e-learning in dermatology during COVID-19 pandemic: Results of a web-based, global survey. Clin Dermatol 2021; 39:461-466. Abstract
During the pandemic, virtual conferences became the norm. We conducted a cross-sectional global study to assess dermatologists’ responses to virtual conference and e-learning program attendance, as well as to discuss the status of such events during the pandemic. This web-based, global survey included 733 dermatologists. Primary outcomes are percentages of responders answering questions. Assessment of the relationship between two categorical variables was performed with the chi-square test. A substantial percentage of responders were willing to attend a virtual meeting (70.6%) or webinar (80.2%), or to conduct a webinar (47.3%). Among participants who provided resident or fellow training before the pandemic, 38% responded that they did not have any teaching systems in place during the pandemic. Virtual conference attendance was significantly associated with video conference attendance before the pandemic, webinar attendance, teledermatology (TD) use during the pandemic, future TD use, having training systems in place for residents or fellows (P < .001 for each), and North American location of participant (P = .001). Webinar attendance was associated with North American location, conducting webinars (P < .001 for each), and future TD use (P = .024). This pandemic has had a profound effect on dermatology conferences and e-learning programs. Attending video conferences and webinars or other online training was associated with TD use and future use, which indicates that these technologies are all here to stay.

Abstract
Background: The availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) among dermatologists during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has not been studied. Methods: We have assessed PPE availability among dermatologists and relevant aspects of hospital service by surveying 733 dermatologists. Results: Considerable percentages of respondents had to purchase their own PPE (40.2%) and were not provided with it at the hospital (37.7%). Only 27% of respondents provided hospital service, and 18.4% were assigned to nondermatologic duty. A substantial percentage (64.4%) indicated the availability of hospital-issued management guidelines (HIMG) for COVID-19 patients. Nearly half of the survey participants (49.1%) responded that the health care system was not equipped for the pandemic. Purchasing one's own PPE was strongly associated with the private practice setting and continent, with the highest rates in Central and South America and in Europe (P < .001). PPE availability at a hospital was associated with 2 continents, with the highest rates in Europe and in North America (P < .001). In logistic regression, the most important factor reducing the odds ratio (OR) for purchasing their own PPE was HIMG for COVID-19 patients (OR, 0.55; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.32-0.97). Respondents’ assessment that the health care system was equipped for COVID-19 was the most powerful increaser of OR for PPE availability (OR, 9.43; 95% CI, 5.37-16.56) followed by >1,000 COVID-19 cases in a participant's country. Conclusions: Substantial percentages of respondents had to purchase their own PPE and were not provided with it at the hospital. Strategies to increase PPE availability should be implemented by hospitals, industry, and government authorities.

Abstract
The care for patients infected with COVID-19 requires a team approach, and dermatologists may collaborate with other specialties, especially infectious disease (ID) medicine and obstetrics and gynecology (ObGyn), at every stage of the infection process. A broad spectrum of cutaneous manifestations may occur early in COVID-19 infection, making appropriate dermatologic identification critical for an early diagnosis. There is prognostic value in appropriately identifying different types of COVID-19–associated skin manifestations, which have been linked to disease severity. Such observations emanated from dermatology research, especially large series and international registries of cutaneous manifestations relating to COVID-19, and impact COVID-19 care provided by most health care providers. Also, research based on international registries of skin reactions from the COVID-19 vaccines has an impact across disciplines. An increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19 is encountered during pregnancy, and dermatologists’ role is to urge ObGyn and other clinicians to monitor and educate pregnant patients about the potential for eruptions as a manifestation of COVID-19. ID and ObGyn experts indicate that teledermatology enhanced the interaction among health care providers and improved COVID-19 care. More than 40% of all dermatology consultations at a tertiary care hospital were done via teledermatology. Future collaborative research involving dermatology and specialties, such as ID and ObGyn, could help delineate guidelines for dermatology consultations in patients infected with COVID-19 and determine cases appropriate for teledermatology.
