Theoretical study of sarin adsorption on (12,0) boron nitride nanotube doped with silicon atoms

Two-dimensional photonic crystal sensor enabled by hydrophobic hydrogen-bonded organic Frameworks@Metal-Organic frameworks for trace nerve agents detection

The development of fast and accurate sensors for nerve agents holds immense significance for homeland security and public health. However, the humidity interference from ambient environments and poor sensitivity for trace nerve agents are largely unsolved problems. To overcome the problems, a humidity-independent two-dimensional photonic crystal (2-D PC) sensor is developed by exploiting UiO-66-NH2 2-D PC with excellent sensitivity coupled to a hydrophobic hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOFs) for detection sarin simulant dimethyl methyl phosphonate (DMMP). Selective sensing results show that the HOFs@UiO-66-NH2 2-D PC sensor presents the outstanding DMMP specificity, and the limit of detection (LOD) for DMMP response of the sensor can reach 508 ± 68 ppb at room temperature. Water-resistant experiments demonstrate that the HOFs@UiO-66-NH2 2-D PC sensor shows excellent stability even under 80% relative humidity (RH). Moreover, the sensor also exhibits a rapid response/recovery time of 1 s/3 s and can maintain excellent sensing performance under heat-treatment of 200 °C and in the long-term storage (30 days). The adsorption kinetics and the hydrogen bond interaction are conducted to elucidate the mechanism of enhanced sensing DMMP properties. These results indicate the potential application of the sensor in the trace nerve agent's detection, especially in humidity environment.

Interaction of Anagrelide drug molecule on pristine and doped boron nitride nanocages: a DFT, RDG, PCM and QTAIM investigation

Nowadays, a nanostructure-based drug delivery system is one of the most noticeable topics to be studied, and in this regard, boron nitride nanoclusters are promising drug carriers for targeted drug delivery systems. In this article, the interaction mechanism of Anagrelide (AG) drug with B12N12 and Al- and Ga-doped B12N12 nanocages have been investigated using DFT with B3LYP/6-31 G (d, p) method in both gas and water media. All our studied complexes are thermodynamically stable, and doped nanocage complexes have higher negative adsorption energy (EAd.) and negative solvation energy than AG/B12N12 complexes which correspond to the stability of these systems in both media. The negative highest EAd value is 64.98 kcal/mol (63.17 kcal/mol) and 65.69 kcal/mol (65.11 kcal/mol) in gas (water) media for complex F (AG/AlB11N12) and complex I (AG/GaB11N12) respectively, which refers to the highest stability of these systems. The enhanced values of dipole moment (from 12.40 (12.65) Debye to 17.21 (17.69) Debye in complex F (complex I)) also confirm their stability. The QTAIM and RDG analysis endorse the strong adsorption nature of the AG drug onto the AlB11N12, and GaB11N12 nanocages, which is consistent with the adsorption energy as chemisorption occurs for these complexes. According to the electronic properties, doped nanocages show high sensitivity that infers their promising nature for drug delivery purposes. Thus, complex F and complex I are promising drug delivery systems, and doped nanocages (AlB11N12 and GaB11N12) are better carriers than pristine nanocages for the AG drug delivery system.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Single-walled silicon nanotube as an exceptional candidate to eliminate SARS-CoV-2: a theoretical study

In this work, computational chemistry methods were used to study a silicon nanotube (Si₁₉₂H₁₆) as possible virucidal activity against SARS-CoV-2. This virus is responsible for the COVID-19 disease. DFT calculations showed that the structural parameters of the Si₁₉₂H₁₆ nanotube are in agreement with the theoretical/experimental parameters reported in the literature. The low energy gap value (0.29 eV) shows that this nanotube is a semiconductor and exhibits high reactivity. For nanomaterials to be used as virucides, they need to have high reactivity and high inhibition constant values. Therefore, the adsorption of ³O₂ and H₂O on the surface of Si₁₉₂H₁₆ (Si₁₉₂H₁₆@O₂-H₂O) was performed. In this process, the formation and activation energies were -51.63 and 16.62 kcal/mol, respectively. Molecular docking calculations showed that the Si₁₉₂H₁₆ and Si₁₉₂H₁₆@O₂H-OH nanotubes bind favorably on the receptor-binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein with binding energy of -11.83 (Ki = 2.13 nM) and -11.13 (Ki = 6.99 nM) kcal/mol, respectively. Overall, the results obtained herein indicate that the Si₁₉₂H₁₆ nanotube is a potential candidate to be used against COVID-19 from reactivity process and/or steric impediment in the S-protein.Communicated by Ramaswamy H.
