Abstract
BACKGROUND Problematic cannabis use is associated with endorsement of psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) in non-clinical samples. However, little is known in regard to predictors of this relationship, which may be relevant to prevention and intervention. In the present research, we investigate impulsivity and cannabis use motives as potential distal and proximal risk factors for PLEs using conditional process analysis. METHODS Using an online cross-sectional survey of N = 300 students, we assessed endorsement of PLEs using the Community Assessment of Psychic Experiences (CAPE), problematic cannabis use with the Cannabis Use Disorder Identification Test (CUDIT-R), motivations for using cannabis with the Substance Use Motives Measure, and impulsivity using the Urgency and Premeditation, Perseverance, Sensation Seeking, Positive Urgency Impulsive Behaviour Scale (UPPS-P). RESULTS All three subscales on the CAPE were associated with significantly higher scores on the CUDIT-R. Before and after covarying for sex, we found that higher CUDIT-R scores mediated the relations between lack of perseverance and negative urgency impulsivity with higher PLE symptoms. Furthermore, the indirect effect of cannabis use on the relationship between lack of perseverance and high negative PLE symptoms was only significant at high and moderate levels of depression-coping, but not at low depression-coping motives. CONCLUSION Impulsivity and depression-coping motives may be distal and proximal psychological risk factors for negative PLEs in the context of problematic cannabis use. Our findings are in line with the broader substance use and mental health literature and may be informative for cannabis use treatment targets.

Abstract
Online research has advantages over in-person research; it's cost-efficient, scalable, and may increase diversity. Researchers collecting data online can assess protocol performance with classification models like a decision tree. However, challenges include attrition, lack of testing environment controls, technical limitations, and lack of face-to-face rapport and real time feedback. It is necessary to consider human factors of the teleresearch process from recruitment to data collection. Here we document the impact of protocol optimizations on social media engagement and retention between a pilot sample of Veterans (n = 26) and a post-optimization sample of both Veterans and civilians (n = 220) recruited from Facebook advertisements. Two-sided tests for equality of proportions were statistically significant: advertisement views leading to clicks increased by 23.8% [X2(1) = 130.3, p < 0.001] and completion of behavioral tasks increased by 31.2% [X2(1) = 20.74, p < 0.001]. However, a proportion of participants dropped out of the study before completion for both samples. To explore why, a C5.0 decision tree was used to find features that classify participant dropout. The features chosen by the algorithm were nicotine use (100%) and cannabis use (25.6%). However, for those completing the study, data quality of cognitive performance was similar for users and nonusers. Rather than determining eligibility, participants who endorse using nicotine, or both nicotine and cannabis, may have individual differences that require support in online protocols to reduce drop out, such as extra breaks. An introduction page that humanizes participants' lifestyle habits as a naturalistic benefit of remote research may also be helpful. Strategies are discussed to increase engagement and improve data quality. The findings have implications for the feasibility of conducting remote research, an increasingly popular approach that has distinct challenges compared to in-person studies.

Abstract
American Indians (AI) experience disproportionately high prevalence of suicide and substance use disorders (SUD). However, accounting for risk burden (e.g. historical trauma and discrimination), the likelihood of mental health disorders or SUD is similar or decreased compared with the broader population. Such findings have spurred psychological research examining the protective factors, but no studies have investigated its potential neural mechanisms. Inhibitory control is one of the potential neurobehavioral construct with demonstrated protective effects, but has not been examined in neuroimaging studies with AI populations specifically. We examined the incidence of suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STB) and SUD among AI (n = 76) and propensity matched (sex, age, income, IQ proxy and trauma exposure) non-Hispanic White (NHW) participants (n = 76). Among the AI sample, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data recorded during the stop-signal task (SST) was examined in relation to STB and SUDs. AIs relative to NHW subjects displayed lower incidence of STB. AIs with no reported STBs showed greater activity in executive control regions during the SST compared with AI who endorsed STB. AI without SUD demonstrated lower activity relative to those individual reporting SUD. Results are consistent with a growing body of literature demonstrating the high level of risk burden driving disparate prevalence of mental health concerns in AI. Furthermore, differential activation during inhibitory control processing in AI individuals without STB may represent a neural mechanism of protective effects against mental health problems in AI. Future research is needed to elucidate sociocultural factors contributing protection against mental health outcomes in AIs and further delineate neural mechanisms with respect to specific concerns (e.g. SUD vs STB).

Abstract
Lenrispodun is a potent and highly selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase (PDE) type 1, which is thought to prolong intracellular second messenger signaling within cortical and subcortical dopaminergic brain regions. This is the first study of a PDE1 inhibitor in healthy volunteers using behavioral and neuroimaging approaches to examine its effects on neural targets and to provide a safety and tolerability assessment. The primary objectives were to determine whether lenrispodun induces changes in BOLD fMRI signals in the inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) during the stop signal task, and the dorsal anterior insula (dAI) during the extinction phase of a fear conditioning/extinction task. Using a double-blind, placebo-controlled, within-subjects design, 26 healthy individuals (22 completed all fMRI sessions) received in random order a single oral dose of placebo, lenrispodun 1.0 milligram (mg) or lenrispodun 10.0 mg and completed several tasks in the scanner including the stop signal (n = 24) and fear conditioning/extinction tasks (n = 22). Prespecified region-of-interest analyses for the IFG and dAI were computed using linear mixed models. Lenrispodun induced increases in IFG activity during the stop signal task at 1.0 mg (Cohen's d = 0.63) but not 10.0 mg (Cohen's d = 0.07) vs. placebo. Lenrispodun did not induce changes in dAI activity during fear extinction at either dose. Exploratory outcomes revealed changes in cardiac interoception. Lenrispodun administration was well-tolerated. These results provide evidence that 1.0 mg lenrispodun selectively improved neural inhibitory control without altering fear extinction processing. Future investigations should determine whether lenrispodun improves inhibitory control in target populations such as individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Emotion-related impulsivity, defined by poor constraint in the face of emotion, is related to internalizing symptoms, cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Internalizing symptoms, though, are profoundly tied to stress reactivity, and little is known about how emotion-related impulsivity relates to stress reactivity. METHOD Taking advantage of a sample that had completed measures of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and two forms of emotion-related impulsivity before the pandemic, we asked participants to complete three weekly follow-up internalizing assessments early in the pandemic. RESULTS Among the 150 participants, pre-pandemic emotion-related impulsivity scores predicted higher depression, anxiety, general distress, and suicidal ideation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Controlling for pre-pandemic scores, one form of emotion-related impulsivity (Feelings Trigger Action) predicted increased anxiety and general distress. We also examined how pre-pandemic emotion-related impulsivity was moderated by weekly COVID-related stress. One form of emotion-related impulsivity (Pervasive Influence of Feelings) predicted internalizing symptoms at low stress levels, and a different form (Feelings Trigger Action) predicted internalizing symptoms at higher stress levels. LIMITATIONS Limitations include the small sample size, the absence of repeat measures of impulsivity, the attrition of individuals with more internalizing symptoms, and the reliance on self-rated measures. CONCLUSIONS Forms of emotion-related impulsivity predict increases in anxiety and distress over time, but the interactions with stress levels appear to vary. Emotion-related impulsivity can be addressed with accessible intervention tools, suggesting the promise of broader screening for those at risk for internalizing symptoms during periods of high stress.
