Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence suggests an association between atopic eczema (AE) or psoriasis and mental illness; however, the factors associated with mental illness are unclear. OBJECTIVES To synthesize and evaluate all available evidence on factors associated with depression, anxiety and severe mental illness (SMI) among adults with AE or psoriasis. METHODS We searched electronic databases, grey literature databases and clinical trial registries from inception to February 2022 for studies of adults with AE or psoriasis. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials (RCTs), cohort, cross-sectional or case-control studies where effect estimates of factors associated with depression, anxiety or SMI were reported. We did not apply language or geographical restrictions. We assessed risk of bias using the Quality in Prognosis Studies tool. We synthesized results narratively, and if at least two studies were sufficiently homogeneous, we pooled effect estimates in a random effects meta-analysis. RESULTS We included 21 studies (11 observational, 10 RCTs). No observational studies in AE fulfilled our eligibility criteria. Observational studies in people with psoriasis mostly investigated factors associated with depression or anxiety - one cross-sectional study investigated factors associated with schizophrenia. Pooled effect estimates suggest that female sex and psoriatic arthritis were associated with depression [female sex: odds ratio (OR) 1.62, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.09-2.40, 95% prediction intervals (PIs) 0.62-4.23, I2 = 24.90%, τ2 = 0.05; psoriatic arthritis: OR 2.26, 95% CI 1.56-3.25, 95% PI 0.21-24.23, I2 = 0.00%, τ2 = 0.00] and anxiety (female sex: OR 2.59, 95% CI 1.32-5.07, 95% PI 0.00-3956.27, I2 = 61.90%, τ2 = 0.22; psoriatic arthritis: OR 1.98, 95% CI 1.33-2.94, I2 = 0.00%, τ2 = 0.00). Moderate/severe psoriasis was associated with anxiety (OR 1.14, 95% CI 1.05-1.25, I2 0.00%, τ2 = 0.00), but not depression. Evidence from RCTs suggested that adults with AE or psoriasis given placebo had higher depression and anxiety scores compared with comparators given targeted treatment (e.g. biologic agents). CONCLUSIONS Our review highlights limited existing research on factors associated with depression, anxiety and SMI in adults with AE or psoriasis. Observational evidence on factors associated with depression or anxiety in people with psoriasis was conflicting or from single studies, but some identified factors were consistent with those in the general population. Evidence on factors associated with SMIs in people with AE or psoriasis was particularly limited. Evidence from RCTs suggested that AE and psoriasis treated with placebo was associated with higher depression and anxiety scores compared with skin disease treated with targeted therapy; however, follow-up was limited. Therefore, long-term effects on mental health are unclear.

Abstract
Impaired sympathetic response is frequently observed in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD). On the other hand, chronic insomnia disorder (CID) is also often accompanied by activation of sympathetic nerves. Considering that cutaneous microcirculation reflects sympathetic tone, we hypothesized that baseline cutaneous microcirculation in fingers, as detected by laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF), differs among patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), AD, and CID. As light therapy is one of the adjunctive treatments for AD and CID, we designed a randomized controlled cross-over trial of light therapy through eyes for 12 weeks with red light as treatment and green light as control limb, and examined if light therapy has an impact on cutaneous microcirculation. Before light therapy, patients with AD had significantly lower baseline cutaneous perfusion than those with CID in left and right first to fourth fingers. After red light therapy, however, cutaneous perfusion of fingers in CID patients significantly decreased (right fingers, before vs. after = 227.25 ± 62.00 vs. 162.00 ± 49.34, p = 0.007; left fingers, before vs. after = 228.99 ± 58.80 vs. 177.41 ± 59.41, p = 0.003) while cutaneous perfusion of fingers in CID patients did not significantly change after green light therapy. Light therapy with red light also significantly increased cutaneous finger perfusion in patients with AD (right fingers, before vs. after = 130.13 ± 49.82 vs. 172.38 ± 38.32, p = 0.043). Our results suggest that cutaneous perfusion is a useful tool to detect sympathetic dysfunction in patients with CID and AD, and that light therapy with red light is a potential therapeutic intervention to reverse impaired sympathetic function in patients with CID and patients with AD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acetaminophen (APAP) has been associated with the development of atopic diseases. However, little is known about the relationship between prenatal APAP exposure and atopic dermatitis (AD) in offspring. OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between prenatal APAP exposure and AD risk in offspring. METHODS In this study, 2029 study pairs (AD-affected children and their mothers) and 5,058 control pairs were identified between 1998 and 2008 from the Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database. Maternal APAP exposure during pregnancy was assessed. RESULTS After adjustment for potential confounders, there was a significant association between risk of offspring AD and exposure to acetaminophen in the first trimester (OR 1.16; 95% CI 1.05-1.28), the second trimester (OR 1.14; 95% CI 1.03-1.27), both first and second trimesters (OR 1.30; 95% CI 1.13-1.51), both first and third trimester (OR 1.20; 95% CI 1.04-1.39), any trimester (OR 1.12; 95% CI 1.00-1.26), and all three trimesters (OR 1.32; 95% CI 1.08-1.62) in a dose-response manner. CONCLUSIONS Prenatal exposure to acetaminophen was associated with an increased incidence of offspring AD.

Abstract
Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease with complex pathogenesis and multiple etiological factors. Besides the essential role of autoreactive T cells and constellation of cytokines, the discovery of IL-23/Th17 axis as a central signaling pathway has unraveled the mechanism of accelerated inflammation in psoriasis. This has provided insights into psoriasis pathogenesis and revolutionized the development of effective biological therapies. Moreover, genome-wide association studies have identified several candidate genes and susceptibility loci associated with this disease. Although involvement of cellular innate and adaptive immune responses and dysregulation of immune cells have been implicated in psoriasis initiation and maintenance, there is still a lack of unifying mechanism for understanding the pathogenesis of this disease. Emerging evidence suggests that psoriasis is a high-mortality disease with additional burden of comorbidities, which adversely affects the treatment response and overall quality of life of patients. Furthermore, changing trends of psoriasis-associated comorbidities and shared patterns of genetic susceptibility, risk factors and pathophysiological mechanisms manifest psoriasis as a multifactorial systemic disease. This review highlights the recent progress in understanding the crucial role of different immune cells, proinflammatory cytokines and microRNAs in psoriasis pathogenesis. In addition, we comprehensively discuss the involvement of various complex signaling pathways and their interplay with immune cell markers to comprehend the underlying pathophysiological mechanism, which may lead to exploration of new therapeutic targets and development of novel treatment strategies to reduce the disastrous nature of psoriasis and associated comorbidities.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Evidence indicates that people with the common inflammatory skin diseases atopic eczema or psoriasis are at increased risk of mental illness. However, the reasons for the relationship between skin disease and common mental disorders (ie, depression and anxiety) or severe mental illnesses (ie, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other psychoses) are unclear. Therefore, we aim to synthesise the available evidence regarding the risk factors for mental illness in adults with atopic eczema or psoriasis. METHODS AND ANALYSIS We will conduct a systematic review of randomised controlled trials, cohort, case-control and cross-sectional studies. We will search the following databases from inception to March 2020: Medline, Embase, Global Health, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Base, PsycInfo, the Global Resource of Eczema Trials, and the grey literature databases Open Grey, PsycExtra and the New York Academy of Medicine Grey Literature Report. We will also search the bibliographies of eligible studies and relevant systematic reviews to identify additional relevant studies. Citation searching of large summary papers will be used to further identify relevant publications. Two reviewers will initially review study titles and abstracts for eligibility, followed by full text screening. We will extract data using a standardised data extraction form. We will assess the risk of bias of included studies using the Quality in Prognosis Studies tool. We will synthesise data narratively, and if studies are sufficiently homogenous, we will consider a meta-analysis. We will assess the quality of the evidence using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation framework. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval is not required for a systematic review. Results of the review will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and disseminated through conferences. Abstract
Psoriasis is not only a chronic inflammatory skin disease but also a psychosomatic disorder. Depression is one of the most common associated diseases, which aggravates psoriatic skin lesions and affects the life quality of patients. Clinical experiments establish a correlation between psoriasis and depression; however, the mechanisms yet unclear because only a few related studies are available. Therefore, to investigate whether imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like mice showed depressive-like behavior, 5% imiquimod cream was smeared on the back of mice to induce psoriasis-like skin lesions for 8 days. Consequently, the psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) score, epidermal thickness, expression of Ki67 and CD3+ T lymphocyte, the content of IL-12p70, IL-17A, and IL-23 in skin lesions were increased. The psoriasis-like mice presented significant changes in body mass. The sugar water preference rate, the central area distance and area time, and the content of 3,4-dihydroxyphenylaceticacid (DOPAC) and noradrenaline (NE) in the prefrontal cortex, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), adrenaline (Ad), and DOPAC in the hippocampus, and Ad and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the hypothalamus of psoriasis-like mice were significantly decreased. The results showed that after the application of imiquimod, depressive-like behaviors appeared in psoriasis-like mice, and the secretion of related neurotransmitters was disordered. Thus, these mice could be used as animal models for studying psoriasis complicated with depression symptoms.

Abstract
Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) have been recently considered as chronic systemic inflammatory disorders. Over the past decades, enormous evidence indicates that patients with psoriasis and PsA have a higher risk of developing various comorbidities including cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease, cancers, infections, autoimmune disease, and psychiatric diseases. However, reported risks of some comorbidities in those with psoriasis and PsA are somewhat different according to the research design. Moreover, pathomechanisms underlying comorbidities of those with psoriasis and PsA remain poorly elucidated. The purpose of this review is to provide the most updated comprehensive view of the risk of systemic comorbidities in those with psoriasis and PsA. Molecular mechanisms associated with the development of various comorbidities in those with psoriasis and PsA are also reviewed based on recent laboratory and clinical investigations. Identifying the risk of systemic comorbidities and its associated pathomechanisms in those with psoriasis and PsA could provide a sufficient basis to use a multi-disciplinary approach for treating patients with psoriasis and PsA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Major depressive disorder (MDD) has been implicated as a risk factor for various immune-related disorders; however, the association between MDD and subsequent autoimmune skin diseases (ASDs) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association of MDD with risk of subsequent ASDs. METHODS Subjects were recruited from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. We included 222,522 patients with MDD and 890,088 matched controls to assess the risk of developing ASDs. RESULTS After controlling for confounders, we found an increased risk of ASDs among the patients with MDD (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 10.41; 95% CI, 9.62-11.42) compared to matched controls. Subgroup analyses showed that MDD patients had a significantly increased risk of developing psoriasis (aHR, 12.01; 95% CI, 10.37-13.91), lichen planus (aHR, 11.84; 95% CI, 8.90-15.75), alopecia areata (aHR, 11.61; 95% CI, 9.92-13.59), morphea (aHR, 6.03; 95% CI, 2.47-14.73), autoimmune bullous diseases (aHR, 7.67; 95% CI, 5.94-9.90), hidradenitis suppurativa (aHR, 8.45; 95% CI, 3.61-19.74), vitiligo (aHR, 7.24; 95% CI, 5.65-9.28), lupus erythematosus (aHR, 11.30; 95% CI, 9.21-13.86), systemic sclerosis (aHR, 8.07; 95% CI, 4.30-15.14), Sjogren's syndrome (aHR, 6.71; 95% CI, 5.29-8.50), and dermatomyositis (aHR, 14.44; 95% CI, 5.55-37.55). CONCLUSIONS Patients with MDD had an increased risk of developing ASDs as compared to the controls. Further studies are needed to better understand the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Schizophrenia is a debilitating neuropsychiatric condition that affects 0.5% of the North American population. Skin disease in schizophrenia has not been well described. Identifying skin diseases that are commonly comorbid with schizophrenia may help clinicians address the burden of skin disease in patients with schizophrenia. SUMMARY We conducted a nonsystematic review of the literature to identify skin diseases that may be associated with schizophrenia. We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, and PsycINFO for articles published in English from December 2000 through April 2020 using the key words "skin disease" or "dermatological" or "dermatology" and "schizophrenia." Based on our results, we further refined the search terms to include more specific skin diseases. Schizophrenia appears to be associated with a number of skin diseases, including inflammatory dermatoses, autoimmune diseases, and certain genodermatoses. Limitations include being a nonsystematic review and the relative paucity of more rigorous clinical research using longitudinal study designs.

Bidirectional association between alopecia areata and thyroid diseases: a nationwide population-based cohort study. Arch Dermatol Res 2020; 313:339-346. Abstract
Alopecia areata (AA) has long been associated with thyroid diseases; however, the temporality of their association remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the bidirectional association between AA and thyroid diseases. In analysis 1, we included 5929 AA patients and 59,290 matched controls to assess the risk of thyroid diseases. In analysis 2, we included 35,071 patients with thyrotoxicosis, 19,227 patients with Graves' disease, 5460 patients with thyroiditis, 3352 patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and their matched controls (1:10) to assess the risk of AA. Incidence of thyroid diseases and AA were the outcomes in analysis 1 and analysis 2, respectively. After adjusting the potential confounders, AA patients had an increased risk of all thyroid diseases, including toxic nodular goiter, (aHR 10.17; 95% confidence interval [CI] 5.32-19.44), nontoxic nodular goiter (aHR 5.23; 95% CI 3.76-7.28), thyrotoxicosis (aHR 7.96; 95% CI 6.01-10.54), Graves' disease (aHR 8.36; 95% CI 5.66-12.35), thyroiditis (aHR 4.04; 95% CI 2.12-7.73), and Hashimoto thyroiditis (aHR 4.35; 95% CI 1.88-10.04). On the contrary, a significantly increased risk of developing AA was observed among patients with thyrotoxicosis (aHR 9.29; 95% CI, 7.11-12.14), Graves' disease (aHR 8.66; 95% CI 6.03-12.42), and thyroiditis (aHR 6.42; 95% CI 3.15-13.11) but not in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. In conclusion, our study found a bidirectional association between AA and thyroid diseases, suggesting shared biological mechanisms underlying these two diseases.

Abstract
<b><i>Background:</i></b> Obesity and metabolic diseases including diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension are reportedly associated with an increased risk of psoriasis. However, few prospective studies have investigated the association of obesity and metabolic diseases with the risk of psoriasis. <b><i>Objective:</i></b> To examine whether obesity or metabolic diseases increase the risk of psoriasis. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Participants were collected from 4 rounds (2001, 2005, 2009, and 2013) of the Taiwan National Health Interview Survey. Incident cases of psoriasis were identified from the National Health Insurance database. Participants were followed from the time of the National Health Interview Survey interview until December 31, 2017, or until a diagnosis of psoriasis was made or the participant died. The Cox regression model was used for the analyses. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Of 60,136 participants, 406 developed psoriasis during 649,506 person-years of follow-up. Compared to participants with a BMI of 18.5–22.9, the adjusted hazard ratios (aHR) of psoriasis were 1.34 (95% CI 1.05–1.71) for a BMI of 25.0–29.9 and 2.70 (95% CI 1.95–3.72) for a BMI ≥30. Neither individual nor multiple metabolic diseases were associated with incident psoriasis. Participants with a BMI ≥30 were at significantly higher risk of both psoriasis without arthritis (aHR 2.60; 95% CI 1.85–3.67) and psoriatic arthritis (aHR 3.96; 95% CI 1.45–10.82). <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> Obesity, but not metabolic diseases, significantly increased the risk of psoriasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between alopecia areata (AA) and sleep disorders remains uncertain. This study aims to investigate the bidirectional association between AA and sleep disorders. METHODS To assess the risk of developing sleep disorders, we recruited 5648 patients with AA and 22,592 matched controls from the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) in Taiwan. Similarly, risk of developing AA was assessed in 93,130 patients with sleep disorders (including 7310 patients with obstructive sleep apnea [OSA] and 85,820 patients with non-apnea insomnia) and 372,520 matched controls. Cox regression model was used for the analysis. RESULTS AA patients had a significantly increased risk of developing OSA (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 3.80; 95% confidence interval [CI] 2.53-5.71) and non-apnea insomnia (aHR 4.20; 95% CI 3.68-4.79). Conversely, presence of sleep disorders significantly increased the risk of AA development (aHR 4.70; 95% CI 3.99-5.54). Both OSA (aHR 3.89; 95% CI 2.46-6.16) and nonapnea insomnia (aHR 4.77; 95% CI 4.03-5.64) were associated an increased risk of developing AA. CONCLUSIONS Patients with AA have a higher risk of developing sleep disorders compared to controls, and vice versa. Further studies are needed to investigate the shared pathogenic mechanism underlying these two conditions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The link between psoriasis and suicidality remains elusive and understudied. OBJECTIVE The aim was to assess the risk of suicidal behavior in psoriasis patients. METHODS We used Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database to conduct a nationwide retrospective cohort study to examine the risk for suicidal behavior among psoriasis patients. We performed subgroup analyses based on the severity of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. RESULTS We included 169,909 psoriasis patients (including 13,959 with concomitant psoriatic arthritis and 155,950 with psoriasis alone) and 169,909 matched nonpsoriasis controls. Suicidal behavior occurred in 104 and 89 subjects in the psoriasis group and nonpsoriasis controls, respectively; we found no significantly increased risk for suicidal behavior among psoriasis patients when compared to nonpsoriasis controls [adjusted hazard ratio (HR) 1.17, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.88‒1.55]. The subgroup analysis showed no significantly increased risk for suicidal behavior in both the severe psoriasis group (adjusted HR 0.92, 95% CI 0.51-1.64) and the mild psoriasis group (adjusted HR 1.26, 95% CI 0.91‒1.75) when compared to nonpsoriasis controls. Also, we found no significant increased risk for suicidal behavior in the group of psoriasis patients who also had psoriatic arthritis (adjusted HR 2.00, 95% CI 0.68‒5.85) and in the group of patients with psoriasis alone (adjusted HR 1.12, 95% CI 0.83‒1.50) when compared to nonpsoriasis controls. CONCLUSION In a Taiwanese setting, no link between psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis and suicidal behavior was detected.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Alopecia areata (AA) has long been associated with major depressive disorder (MDD). However, most evidence to date has derived from cross-sectional or case-control studies. OBJECTIVE To investigate the bidirectional association between AA and MDD among probands and unaffected siblings. METHODS Study participants were recruited from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. We included 2123 probands with AA, 2298 unaffected siblings, and 9192 matched controls to assess the risk of MDD. We included 16,543 probands with MDD, 17,352 unaffected siblings, and 69,408 matched controls to assess the risk of AA. The Breslow-Cox model was used to calculate the adjusted relative risk. RESULTS Compared with controls, AA probands and unaffected siblings had adjusted relative risks of 8.22 (95% confidence interval [CI], 6.41-10.54) and 2.55 (95% CI, 1.91-3.40), respectively, for MDD. MDD probands and unaffected siblings had adjusted relative risks for AA of 1.66 (95% CI, 1.24-2.22) and 1.64 (95% CI, 1.27-2.12), respectively. LIMITATION The National Health Insurance Research Database lacked information on disease severity, body mass index, smoking habit, alcohol consumption, and stressful life events. CONCLUSION Our study demonstrated a bidirectional association between AA and MDD among probands and unaffected siblings, thus suggesting shared familial mechanisms underlying AA and MDD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND An ever-increasing number of cancer patients are being treated with checkpoint inhibitors such as anti-PD-1 antibodies, and a small percentage of these patients develop a psoriasis-like skin eruption or severe flares of prior psoriasis. OBJECTIVE We investigated the role of obesity in immune checkpoint inhibitors-exacerbated psoriasiform eruption. METHODS We fed female C57BL/6 mice a so-called Western diet (WD) or a control diet (CD). Imiquimod (IMQ) was applied topically on ears for 5 consecutive days to induce psoriasiform dermatitis (PsD). Psoriasis-related markers were examined by quantitative real-time PCR. Then we induced PsD in WD- and CD-fed mice in the presence or absence of systemic treatment of anti-PD-1 antibodies to examine if obese mice are more susceptible to anti-PD-1 related PsD than lean mice. RESULTS WD-fed mice showed higher baseline mRNA expression levels of psoriasis-associated cytokines such as IL-17, S100A8, and S100A9 compared to mice fed with CD. Furthermore, WD-fed mice had more γδ low (GDL) T cells in the whole skin and higher expression of PD-1 on GDL T cells than CD-fed mice. WD-fed mice receiving anti-PD-1 had more prominent ear swelling than lean mice receiving anti-PD-1 during the 5-day IMQ course (2-fold increase, P < 0.0001 on day 5). CONCLUSION WD-induced obesity enhances IMQ-induced psoriasiform inflammation. The finding that WD-fed mice have a more dramatic response to anti-PD-1 than lean mice in terms of IMQ-induced ear swelling suggests that obesity could be a risk factor in the development of psoriasiform eruption during anti-PD-1 therapy.

Abstract
Psoriasis is associated with certain psychiatric disorders such as anxiety and depression. Although a growing body of literature has indicated high prevalence of anxiety in patients with psoriasis, it is unclear if the incidence of anxiety is correlated with severity of psoriasis. In this article, we hypothesize that anxiety is not correlated with severity of psoriasis, and therefore the issue of anxiety should not be neglected in patients with mild psoriasis. To testify this hypothesis, we performed a pilot study to investigate the correlation between anxiety questionnaires and severity of psoriasis. Thirty-two patients with psoriasis were recruited. The patients were further classified into mild or moderate to severe psoriasis according to their body surface area or Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI). Zung's self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and SF-36 were adopted to evaluate anxiety and quality of life, respectively. Spearman's rank correlation coefficients were calculated between SAS and each scale of SF-36 among these 32 patients. SAS is negatively correlated with role limitation due to emotional problems, vitality, emotional well-being of SF-36. Although SAS is not significantly different between mild and moderate to severe psoriasis, the detected levels of anxiety were higher than normative standards. Physicians should not neglect potential anxiety in patients who have mild psoriasis. Inter-discipline collaboration between psychiatry and dermatology is required to provide comprehensive patient care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to determine if there was any association between geographic tongue (GT) and fissured tongue with ABO blood group among adult psoriasis patients in Saudi Arabia. STUDY DESIGN This hospital-based cross-sectional study included 100 consecutive new adult patients diagnosed with psoriasis and 100 case-matched participants in the control group (nonpsoriatic). Sociodemographic and dermatologic parameters, intraoral lesions (GT and fissured tongue), and ABO blood grouping and immunoglobulins were recorded and evaluated using χ2 or Fisher's exact test. RESULTS A total of 74% of patients had an early age of onset, and 48% of them reported this disease in their parents. A total of 76% of those with generalized psoriasis had plaque type, whereas 78% with the localized type had pustular lesions. A total of 70% of psoriatic patients had O Rh-positive blood; 63% of tongue lesions seen in these patients were GT, and it was most prominent in O Rh-positive (64.28%) and O Rh-negative (62.50%) blood types. GT was prevalent among women (75.6%). CONCLUSIONS This study found a positive association of both GT and fissured tongue in this population of adult patients with psoriasis compared with a case-matched control population without psoriasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A relationship between non-neurological autoimmune (NNAI) disorders and psychosis has been widely reported but not yet subjected to meta-analysis. We conducted the first meta-analysis examining the association between NNAI disorders and psychosis and investigated the effect of 1) temporality (as determined by study design), 2) psychiatric diagnosis, and 3) specific autoimmune disorders. METHODS Major databases were searched for articles published until April 2018; 31 studies, comprising data for >25 million individuals, were eligible. Using random-effects models, we examined the overall association between all NNAI disorders and psychosis; rheumatoid arthritis was examined separately given the well-established negative association with psychosis. Stratified analyses investigated the effect of temporality, psychiatric diagnosis, and specific NNAI disorders. RESULTS We observed a positive overall association between NNAI disorders and psychosis (odds ratio [OR] = 1.26; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.12-1.41) that was consistent across study designs and psychiatric diagnoses; however, considerable heterogeneity was detected (I2 = 88.08). Patterns varied across individual NNAI disorders; associations were positive for pernicious anemia (OR = 1.91; 95% CI, 1.29-2.84), pemphigoid (OR = 1.90; 95% CI, 1.62-2.24), psoriasis (OR = 1.70; 95% CI, 1.51-1.91), celiac disease (OR = 1.53; 95% CI, 1.12-2.10), and Graves' disease (OR = 1.33; 95% CI, 1.03-1.72) and negative for ankylosing spondylitis (OR = 0.72; 95% CI, 0.54-0.98) and rheumatoid arthritis (OR = 0.65; 95% CI, 0.50-0.84). CONCLUSIONS While we observed a positive overall association between NNAI disorders and psychosis, this was not consistent across all NNAI disorders. Specific factors, including distinct inflammatory pathways, genetic influences, autoantibodies targeting brain proteins, and exposure to corticosteroid treatment, may therefore underlie this association.

Abstract
Recent studies have suggested an increased risk of psoriasis among patients with schizophrenia although the results are still inconclusive. This systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort and case-control studies that compared the risk psoriasis among patients with schizophrenia versus subjects without schizophrenia was conducted to better characterize the risk. Pooled relative risks and 95% confidence intervals from the included studies were calculated using a random-effect, generic inverse variance method of DerSimonian and Laird. After a comprehensive literature review, 2 retrospective cohort studies and 4 case-control studies with approximately 6.1 million participants were identified. The meta-analysis found that the risk of psoriasis among patients with schizophrenia was significantly higher than non-schizophrenia subjects. Subgroup analysis by study design revealed a significantly higher risk in both cohort study and case-control study subgroup.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psoriasis has been associated with psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety, but its relationship with suicidality (including suicide, suicide attempt, and suicidal ideation) is unclear. OBJECTIVE Our objective was to assess the risk of suicide, suicide attempt, suicidal ideation, and suicidality in people with psoriasis. METHODS We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies examining the risk of suicide, suicide attempt, suicidal ideation, and suicidality in people with psoriasis. We searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and EMBASE from inception to 24 March 2017. Two authors independently selected studies, assessed the quality of included studies, and extracted data. Any disagreement was resolved by discussion with a third author. RESULTS Five population-based cohort studies were included and considered to be of high quality. We found no increase in the risk of suicide (risk ratio [RR] 1.13; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.87-1.46), suicide attempt (RR 1.25; 95% CI 0.89-1.75), or suicidality (RR 1.26; 95% CI 0.97-1.64) among people with psoriasis. In the stratified analysis, we also found no increase in suicide, suicide attempt, and suicidality among people with either severe or mild psoriasis. CONCLUSIONS The available limited, very low-quality evidence does not support an association between psoriasis and suicidal thought and behavior. Further studies that provide data for different age and sex groups are needed to clarify whether a subgroup of patients with psoriasis has an elevated risk of suicidality.
