Abstract
There is growing evidence that long-term exposure to prometryn (a widely used herbicide) can induce toxicity in bony fish and shrimp. Our previous study demonstrated its 96 h acute toxicity on the crab Eriocheir sinensis. However, studies on whether longer exposure to prometryn with a lower dose induces toxicity in E. sinensis are scarce. Therefore, we conducted a 20 d exposure experiment to investigate its effects on the hepatopancreas and intestine of E. sinensi. Prometryn reduce the activities of antioxidant enzymes, increase the level of lipid peroxidation and cause oxidative stress. Moreover, long-term exposure resulted in immune and detoxification fatigue, while short-term exposure to prometryn could upregulate the expression of genes related to immunity, inflammation and detoxification. Prometryn altered the morphological structure of the hepatopancreas (swollen lumen) and intestine (shorter intestinal villi, thinner muscle layer and thicker peritrophic membrane). In addition, prometryn changed the species composition of the intestinal flora. In particular, Bacteroidota and Proteobacteria showed a dose-dependent decrease accompanied by a dose-dependent increase in Firmicutes at the phylum level. At the genus level, all exposure groups significantly increased the abundance of Zoogloea and a Firmicutes bacterium ZOR0006, but decreased Shewanella abundance. Interestingly, Pearson correlation analysis indicated a potential association between differential flora and hepatopancreatic disorder. Phenotypic abundance analysis indicated that changes in the gut flora decreased the intestinal organ's resistance to stress and increased the potential for opportunistic infection. In summary, our research provides new insights into the prevention and defense strategies in response to external adverse environments and contributes to the sustainable development of E. sinensis culture.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND POLLUTION RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL 2023; 30:58944-58955. Abstract
Mepanipyrim and cyprodinil are widely used to control and/or prevent fungal diseases in fruit culture. They are frequently detected in the aquatic environment and some food commodities. Different from TCDD, mepanipyrim and cyprodinil are more easily metabolised in the environments. However, the risk of their metabolites to the ecological environment is unclear and needs to be further confirmed. In this study, we investigated the temporal pattern of mepanipyrim- and cyprodinil-induced CYP1A and AhR2 expression and EROD enzyme activity at different time frames during zebrafish embryonic and larval development. Then, we assessed the ecological risk of mepanipyrim, cyprodinil, and their metabolites to aquatic organisms. Our results showed that mepanipyrim and cyprodinil exposure could increase the expression level of cyp1a and ahr2 genes and EROD activity by a dynamic pattern in different developmental stages of zebrafish. Besides, their several metabolites showed strong AhR agonistic activity. Importantly, these metabolites could cause potential ecological risks to aquatic organisms and should be paid more attention to. Our results would provide an important reference value for environmental pollution control and the use management of mepanipyrim and cyprodinil.

THE SCIENCE OF THE TOTAL ENVIRONMENT 2022; 812:152548. Abstract
Microplastics (MPs), as emerging contaminants, sorb organic pollutants from the environment or leach out additives, thereby altering the fate of co-existing pollutants to organisms. We chose equi-fugacity and above-fugacity concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) as background contamination and plastic additive concentrations, respectively, to investigate the effects of MPs on PCB bioaccumulation; we compared the effects of MPs with those of food-borne particles (FBPs). Co-exposure to MPs and FBPs at both the equi-fugacity and above-fugacity PCB concentrations had no obvious toxic effects (ROS generation and cyp1a expression) on zebrafish. When the zebrafish were exposed to the equi-fugacity PCB concentrations, the PCB concentrations reached 177.7-400.5 ng/g after a 7-d uptake; the presence of MPs did not significantly enhance PCB bioaccumulation. The remaining PCB concentrations in the fish after a 4-d depuration were 58.4-125.1 ng/g; the effects of MPs were the same as those during the uptake period. However, at the above-fugacity PCB concentrations, the MPs markedly increased the PCB bioaccumulation (by 1.8-fold) to 712.9 ng/g. This is because at above-fugacity concentrations, PCBs on MPs migrate to organisms as there were high fugacity gradients. The FBPs enhanced PCB bioaccumulation in zebrafish more effectively than the MPs, even after depuration. In the presence of FBPs, PCB bioaccumulation increased by 2.8- and 4.2- fold after uptake in the equi-fugacity and above-fugacity scenarios, respectively, both of which were significantly higher than that observed for the MPs. This is probably because FBPs are easily assimilated by fish, making the associated PCBs more bioavailable. Finally, during the co-existence of MPs and FBPs, MPs facilitate the depuration of PCBs accumulated via FBP vectors; conversely, FBPs did not affect PCB accumulation via MP vectors. Thus, this study elucidated the effects of MPs and FBPs on the bioaccumulation of pollutants at equi-fugacity or above-fugacity concentrations in aquatic environments.

Abstract
Humic substances, a major component of natural organic matter in surface waters, can induce biotransformation enzyme activities and influence antioxidant defense in fish. The study aimed to provide a molecular basis for the stress responses, the synthesis of biotransformation, and antioxidant enzymes in particular. Adult medaka fish (Hd-rR strain) were exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of humic acid for 96 h. The actual humic acid concentrations in water were determined photometrically and expressed as organic carbon concentrations. Liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry was used for protein profile analysis of medaka liver samples. The relative amount of isozymes was determined using the label-free quantification approach. Hepatic biotransformation enzyme activities were measured as well. Thus, ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase activity showed a pronounced induction at the highest tested concentration (9.4 mg C/L). Various biotransformation and antioxidant isozymes responded to humic acid differently, reflecting a balanced interplay of proteins that ensures the metabolism of humic acid in fish liver. Some isozymes were not affected by humic acid. The study provides new insight into the molecular mechanisms of the fish stress response to the humic acid-related challenge.

Abstract
Prometryn is an occasional triazine herbicide used in aquaculture to kill algae. However, deposition of prometryn at the bottom of the pond poses a potential threat to aquatic animals, especially benthos, such as the sea cucumber. This study investigated the toxic effects of prometryn oral exposure on antioxidants, and the intestinal histomorphology and microbiome of sea cucumbers. Results showed that the accumulation of prometryn in the intestine, respiratory tree, and body wall decreased sequentially under the same level. Severe pathological damages were observed in the intestines of sea cucumbers fed with 0.080 and 1.595 g/kg prometryn (measured concentration). Moreover, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations were significantly increased in prometryn treatment groups compared to the control group (P < 0.05), while the catalase (CAT) activity was significantly decreased (P < 0.05) in the coelomic fluid of treatment groups. At the phylum level, the abundance of Proteobacteria was significantly higher in the 0.080 g/kg treatment group than in the control group. In addition, prometryn exposure reduced the diversity of intestinal microflora in sea cucumbers. In conclusion, these results suggest that prometryn has potential toxicity to sea cucumber. Therefore, the harm of prometryn deposited in the sediment to aquatic animals must be a concern in aquaculture.

Abstract
The ecological health of aquaculture water is threatened by wasted fish feed and herbicides. In order to study the effect of prometryn and fish feed on Microcystis aeruginosa growth based on Monod and Logistic functions, four different concentrations of prometryn (0, 50, 100 and 200 μg L-1) and two different dosages of fish feed (0.075 g, 0.15 g; d < 0.85 mm) were added into the culture medium, and the fish feed was the source of nitrogen and phosphorus in the MII medium. Results showed that Microcystis aeruginosa growth can be fitted well by Logistic and modified Logistic functions with 0-200 μg L-1 prometryn (R2 = 0.981-0.998 and R2 = 0.989-0.999, respectively). With the same concentration of prometryn, the maximum algae density (Nmax) of Microcystis aeruginosa calculated by both Logistic and modified Logistic functions increased with increasing dosage of fish feed and with the same dosage of fish feed, Nmax declined with increasing concentrations of prometryn. Inhibition of prometryn on algae growth stimulated by fish feed is of double concentration-dependence, inhibition rates (I) are lower in 0.15 g fish feed medium than 0.75 g ones generally, implying that more nutrients can alleviate the stress caused by prometryn on algae. Derived formula for the specific growth rate, growth rate and inhibition rate using modified Logistic function agreed reasonably well with measured data. Jointly application of modified Monod and Logistic functions can better describe the relationship between specific growth rates and nutrients concentrations compared to combination of Monod and Logistic functions. In addition, equations for describing variations of nutrients concentrations (PO43--P and NH4+-N) with time were also derived based on both modified Monod and Logistic functions, which agree reasonably well with the measured data. In sum, the combination of modified Monod and Logistic functions provides a promising and robust method in studying algal growth stimulated by fish feed in incubator experiments.

Abstract
Trichlorfon is a moderately toxic organophosphate pesticide that is widely used in aquaculture. This study investigated the effects of trichlorfon on hematological parameters, biochemical factors, and stress reaction in Cyprinus carpio L. The fish were exposed to acute concentrations of trichlorfon (0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 mg L-1) at 25 °C and 15 °C for 1 and 2 weeks, after which several parameters were evaluated to assess the effects of the pesticide. Significant decreases were observed in red blood cell (RBC) Count, hemoglobin (Hb) level, hematocrit (Ht), and plasma protein levels after each exposure period. In contrast, notable increases in mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean cell hemoglobin (MCH), calcium, and glucose levels were observed in the trichlorfon-treated groups. Additionally, there were significant increases in the plasma levels of glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (GPT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) following the exposure to trichlorfon. Furthermore, the results showed a relationship between toxic stress and increment in HSP70 and cytochrome P450 1A (CYP1A) expression over time. Ht, MCV, MCH, and the value of other biochemical parameters were quite lower at 15 °C than their corresponding values were at 25 °C, which indicated the decreased physical activity at 15 °C. The results of the present work indicate that acute exposure to trichlorfon and thermal stimulus could damage erythropoietic tissue. Additionally, hepatocytes function and physiological mechanisms could be impaired. Ht, glucose, GOT, GPT, HSP70, and CYP1A levels might be useful biomarkers of trichlorfon toxicity in contaminated aquatic ecosystems.
