Abstract
In this work, the mucoadhesive substances from the fruits and seeds of Dillenia indica (DI), a plant present abundantly in India, have been extracted and utilised to prepare a hydrogel. A synthetically prepared amphiphilic polyphenol (L) has been incorporated within the hydrogel network to enhance the hydrogelation property. Moreover, the DI-L hydrogel's total phenolic content and radical scavenging prospects have been investigated. The DI-L hydrogel has shown good, sensitive, and efficient adsorptive removal of Fe(III) from the aqueous medium with an adsorption capacity of 6.157 mg/g for an initial concentration of 10 mg/L of Fe(III) solution. As a result, these findings elucidate the most innovative application of transforming fruit mucoadhesive into sustainable environmental solutions.

Abstract
An antibacterial carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRP) was manufactured based on a vitrimer containing imine groups. A liquid curing agent was prepared to include an imine group in the matrix, and was synthesized without a simple mixing reaction and any purification process. The vitrimer used as the matrix for CFRP was prepared by reacting a commercial epoxy with a synthesized curing agent. The structural and thermal properties of the vitrimer were determined by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). In addition, the temperature-dependent behavior of the vitrimer was characterized by stress relaxation, reshaping, and shape memory experiments. The mechanical properties of composites fabricated using vitrimer were fully analyzed by tensile, flexural, short-beam strength, and Izod impact tests and had mechanical properties similar to reference material. Moreover, both the vitrimer and the vitrimer composites showed excellent antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coil due to the imine group inside the vitrimer. Therefore, vitrimer composites have potential for applications requiring antimicrobial properties, such as medical devices.

Abstract
Bioactive glass nanoparticles containing copper (Cu-BGNs) were introduced into polycaprolactone (PCL) coating systems to improve the bioactivity, antibacterial properties, and corrosion resistance of vulnerable magnesium matrices under physiological conditions. The influence of different amounts of Cu-BGNs in PCL coatings was thoroughly investigated in determining the wettability, electrochemical properties, and antibacterial effects against Staphylococcus carnosus and Escherichia coli, as well as their cyto-compatibility. Cu-BGNs were observed randomly scattered in PCL coatings. Increasing the concentration of Cu-BGNs resulted in a slight decrease of the water contact angle, and a reduction in anticorrosion properties of the Cu-BGN composite coatings. Yet higher Cu-BGN content in coatings led to more calcium phosphate formation on the surface after 7 days of immersion in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium, which was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The growth of S. carnosus and E. coli was inhibited by Cu2+ ions released from the Cu-BGN coatings. In addition, both direct and indirect cyto-compatibility experiments showed that the viability and proliferation of MG-63 cells on Cu-BGN coatings were highly increased compared to pure magnesium; however, an additional increase of Cu-BGN concentration showed a slight decrease of cell proliferation and cell activity. In summary, Cu-BGN/PCL composite coatings impart magnesium-based biomaterials with antibacterial and anticorrosive properties for clinical applications.

Abstract
Twelve 4-benzoyl-1-dichlorobenzoylthiosemicarbazides have been tested as potential antibacterials. All the compounds had MICs between 0.49 and 15.63 µg/ml toward Micrococcus luteus, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus epidermidis indicating, in most cases, equipotent or even more effective action than cefuroxime. In order to clarify if the observed antibacterial effects are universal, further research were undertaken to test inhibitory potency of two most potent compounds 3 and 11 on clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus. Compound 11 inhibited the growth of methicillin-sensitive S. aureus (MSSA) at MICs of 1.95-7.81 µg/ml, methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) at MICs of 0.49-1.95 µg/ml and MDR-MRSA at MIC of 0.98 and 3.90 µg/ml, respectively. Finally, inhibitory efficacy of 3 and 11 on planktonic cells and biofilms formation in clinical isolates of S. aureus and Haemophilus parainfluenzae was tested. The majority of cells in biofilm populations of MSSA and MRSA were eradicated at low level of 3, with MBICs in the range of 7.82-15.63 µg/ml.

Abstract
Many tools of analysis such as elemental analyses, infrared, ultraviolet-visible, electron spin resonance (ESR) and thermal analysis, as well as conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements were used to elucidate the structures of the newly prepared Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes with Schiff bases derived from the condensation of 1,4-phenylenediamine with 6-formyl-7-hydroxy-5-methoxy-2-methylbenzo-pyran-4-one (H2L) or 5,7-dihydroxy-6-formyl-2-methylbenzopyran-4-one (H4L). The data showed that all formed complexes are 1:1 or 2:2 (M:L) and non-electrolyte chelates. The Co(II) and Cu(II) complexes of the two Schiff bases were screened for antibacterial activities by the disk diffusion method. The antibacterial activity was screened using Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus capitis but the antifungal activity was examined by using Aspergillus flavus and Candida albicans. The Results showed that the tested complexes have antibacterial, except CuH4L, but not antifungal activities.

Abstract
The review reports a short biography of the Italian naturalized chemist Hugo Schiff and an outline on the synthesis and use of his most popular discovery: the imines, very well known and popular as Schiff Bases. Recent developments on their “metallo-imines” variants have been described. The applications of Schiff bases in organic synthesis as partner in Staudinger and hetero Diels-Alder reactions, as “privileged” ligands in the organometallic complexes and as biological active Schiff intermediates/targets have been reported as well.

Abstract
Schiff bases (SB(1)-SB(3)) were synthesized from the condensation of 6-formyl-7-hydroxy-5-methoxy-2-methylbenzopyran-4-one with 2-aminopyridine (SB(1)), p-phenylenediamine (SB(2)) and o-phenylenediamine (SB(3)), while Schiff bases (SB(4)-SB(6)) were synthesized by condensation of 5,7-dihydroxy-6-formyl-2-methylbenzopyran-4-one with 2-aminopyridine (SB(4)), p-phenylenediamine (SB(5)) and o-phenylenediamine (SB(6)). Schiff bases were characterized using elemental analysis, IR, UV-Vis, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR and mass spectroscopy. These compounds were screened for antibacterial activities by micro-plate assay technique. Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus capitis were exposed to different concentrations of the Schiff bases. Results showed that the antibacterial effect of these Schiff bases on Gram-negative bacteria were higher than that on Gram-positive bacteria moreover, the Schiff bases containing substituent OCH(3) on position five have higher antibacterial activity than that containing hydroxy group on the same position.

Abstract
To discover analgesics for treating chronic pain 17 novel Schiff's bases, N,N'-(Z-allylidene-1,3-diyl)bisamino acid methyl esters were prepared from 1,1,3,3,-tetramethoxypropane and amino acid methyl esters. On tail-flick mouse model 20 micromol/kg of these Schiff's bases were orally administered, the analgesic action started 30 min after administration, reached the maximum 120 min after administration, and at 180 min this action was still observed. On a xylene-induced ear edema mouse model 20 micromol/kg of these Schiff's bases exhibited desirable anti-inflammation. Thus the present Schiff's bases are able to treat chronic pain from inflammation. The effect of the side chains of the amino acid residues of these Schiff's bases on the analgesic activity was explained with 3D QSAR.
