The enhancement of TXA2 receptors-mediated contractile response in intrarenal artery dysfunction in type 2 diabetic mice

COMMD5 is involved in the mechanisms of hypotension after parathyroidectomy in patients receiving hemodialysis

BACKGROUND

Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is a common complication of end-stage renal disease. Parathyroidectomy (PTx) is often employed for treatment of severe SHPT. However, PTx may cause hypotension via unknown mechanisms. COMM domain-containing protein 5 (COMMD5) in the parathyroid glands has been linked to blood pressure regulation of spontaneously hypertensive rats.

OBJECTIVE

To explore the relationship between COMMD5 levels and reduced BP after PTx in patients receiving hemodialysis (HD).

METHODS AND RESULTS

(1) The study cohort included 31 patients receiving HD who underwent PTx. Serum COMMD5 levels were higher post-PTx vs. pre-PTx. (2) Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 22) were assigned to a 5/6 nephrectomy group or sham surgery group, vascular rings of the thoracic aorta from rats with CKD were incubated with COMMD5, and changes in vascular tension were compared. COMMD5 inhibited vasoconstriction of vascular rings with intact endothelium, but had no effect on vascular rings without the endothelium. (3) Human umbilical vein endothelial cells were stimulated with COMMD5 or small interfering RNA (siRNA). The expression levels of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) were up-regulated and down-regulated, respectively.

CONCLUSIONS

Serum COMMD5 levels were increased after PTx in SHPT patients. COMMD5 promoted high expression of ANP and eNOS in endothelial cells, leading to vasodilation and resulting in hypotension.

Contribution of calcium dysregulation to impaired coronary artery contraction in Zucker diabetic fatty rats

Diabetic coronary artery injury is closely associated with Ca²⁺ dysregulation, although the underlying mechanism remains unclear. This study explored the role and mechanism of Ca²⁺ handling in coronary artery dysfunction in type 2 diabetic rats. Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rats were used as the type 2 diabetes mellitus model. The contractility of coronary artery rings induced by KCl, CaCl₂ , 5-HT and U46619 was significantly lower in ZDF rats than in Zucker lean rats. Vasoconstriction induced by 5-HT and U46619 was greatly inhibited by nifedipine. However, in the presence of 1 μM nifedipine or in the Ca²⁺ -free KH solution containing 1 μM nifedipine, there was no difference in the vasoconstriction between Zucker lean and ZDF rats. Store-operated calcium channels (SOCs) were not involved in coronary vasoconstriction. The downregulation of contractile proteins and the upregulation of synthesized proteins were in coronary artery smooth muscle cells (CASMCs) from ZDF rats. Metformin reversed the reduction of vasoconstriction in ZDF rats. Taken together, L-type calcium channel is important for regulating the excitation-contraction coupling of VSMCs in coronary arteries, and dysregulation of this channel contributes to the decreased contractility of coronary arteries in T2DM.

Increased thromboxane/prostaglandin receptors contribute to high glucose-induced podocyte injury and mitochondrial fission through ROCK1-Drp1 signaling

Excessive mitochondrial fission in podocytes serves as a central hub for the pathogenesis of diabetic nephropathy (DN), and the thromboxane/prostaglandin receptor (TP receptor) plays a potential role in DN. However, regulation of the TP receptor during mitochondrial dynamics disorder in podocytes remains unknown. Here, we firstly reported novel mechanistic details of TP receptor effects on mitochondrial dynamics in podocytes under diabetic conditions. Expression of the TP receptor was significantly upregulated in podocytes under diabetic conditions both in vivo and in vitro. S18886 attenuated podocyte mitochondrial fission, glomerular injury and renal dysfunction in diabetic mice. Furthermore, inhibition of the TP receptor by both genetic and pharmacological methods dramatically reduced mitochondrial fission and attenuated podocyte injury induced by high glucose through regulating dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) phosphorylation and its subsequent translocation to mitochondria. In contrast, TP receptor overexpression and application of TP receptor agonist U46619 in these podocytes showed the opposite effect on mitochondrial fission and podocyte injury. Furthermore, treatment with Y27632, an inhibitor of Rho-associated kinase1 (ROCK1), significantly blunted more fragmented mitochondria and reduced podocyte injuries in podocytes with TP receptor overexpression or after U46619 treatment. Finally, pharmacological inhibition of Drp1 alleviated excessive mitochondrial fragmentation and podocyte damage in TP receptor overexpressing podocytes. Our data suggests that increased expression of the TP receptor can occur in a human cultured podocyte cell line and in podocytes derived from streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice, which contributes to mitochondrial excessive fission and podocyte injury via ROCK1-Drp1 signaling.

Thromboxane-dependent coronary vasoconstriction in obese mice: Role of peroxynitrite

Obesity leads to chronic oxidative stress promoting the development of cardiovascular diseases including coronary artery disease and endothelial dysfunction. Increased reactive oxygen species production associated with obesity might lead to endothelial dysfunction through cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway. We evaluated arachidonic acid (AA)-dependent coronary vascular responses and explored COX metabolism in obese C57BL/6 mice. In response to arachidonic acid (AA), isolated hearts from obese mice showed increased vasoconstriction compared with control mice. Released thromboxane (TX) A2 during AA-induced vasoconstriction phase was increased in heart perfusates from obese mice. Indomethacin and 1-benzylimidazole, both reduced vasoconstriction response in control and obese mice. Vasoconstriction response to TXA2 mimetic analog U46619 was 2.7 higher in obese mice. Obesity increased COX-2, TXS and TX receptor protein expression as well as oxidative stress evaluated by nitrotyrosine and peroxynitrite levels, compared with control mice. Obese mice treated with FeTMPyP, a peroxynitrite scavenger, reversed all these parameters to control levels. These data suggest that alterations in COX pathway may be associated with increased generation of free radicals, including peroxynitrite, that result from the oxidative stress observed in obesity.

Thromboxane A2 is involved in the development of hypertension in chronic kidney disease rats

Hypertension is one of the most common complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Some research has indicated that changes in large artery function especially caused by thromboxane A2 (TXA2) may be a novel factor acting to induce hypertension in CKD. We studied the 5/6 nephrectomy rat model and measured serum levels of creatinine (Cr), calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), TXA2-stable metabolites (thromboxane B2, TXB2), and caudal artery pressure after nephrectomy. The tension variations in thoracic aortas were measured after stimulating by vasoconstrictor/vasodilator using the cumulative concentration administration method and then tested the expression of TXA2 receptors in the thoracic aortas through western blots. The CKD rats developed uremia, electrolyte imbalances，and hypertension. They also exhibited a significant increase in TXB2 concentration. The aortic rings of CKD rats showed an increased contraction response to U46619 (a TXA2 analogue) and the expression of TXA2 receptors also enhanced. In the meanwhile, the diastolic function decreased in the CKD group. Our results demonstrate that the impairment of artery contractile function caused by the increase of TXA2 receptors on the wall of aortic rings may be involved in hypertension in CKD rats.

Signalling pathway of U46619-induced vascular smooth muscle contraction in mouse coronary artery

BACKGROUND

Thromboxane A2 (TXA2 ) participates in many pathophysiological processes of coronary artery disease. However, its mechanism of TXA2 -induced contraction in the coronary artery remains to be clarified. A multi myograph system was used to measure the isometric tension of the mouse coronary arteries and identify the effect and pathway of TXA2 analogues U46619. Confocal laser scanning microscopy was used to measure the intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+ ]i ) in mouse coronary artery smooth muscle cells. Results from the experiment had shown that contraction in coronary artery was generated by U46619 in a concentration-dependent manner, which was completely abolished by a specific TXA2 receptor blocker, GR32191. PI-PLC inhibitors U73122 and D609 and Rho-Kinase inhibitor Y-27632 can block the U46619 elicited coronary artery contraction in a dose-dependent manner. Then, the vasoconstriction response to U46619 was obviously inhibited by two pan-PKC inhibitors chelerythrine or Gӧ6983, and a selective PKCδ inhibitor rottlerin, but was not blocked by a selective PKCζ inhibitor PKC-PS or a selective PKCβ inhibitor hispidin. Meanwhile, the PKC activator PDBu-induced vasoconstriction was significantly inhibited by 1 μmol/L nifedipine, then mostly inhibited by 100 μmol/L 2-APB and 10 μmol/L Y27632. We further found that the response to U46619 was inhibited, respectively, by three calcium channel blockers nifedipine, SKF96356 or 2-APB in a concentration-dependent manner. Although Store-operated Ca2+ (SOC) channels generated the increase of [Ca2+ ]i in mouse coronary artery smooth muscle cells, SOC channels did not contribute to the vasoconstriction in mouse coronary arteries. Caffeine-induced sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) Ca2+ release could obviously induce coronal vasoconstriction. In addition, NPPB, a cell membrane Ca2+ activated C1- channel blocker, could obviously inhibit the U46619-induced vasoconstriction. The U46619-induced mouse coronary artery contraction was involved in the increase in [Ca2+ ]i mediated by Cav1.2, TRPC channels and SR release through the activation of G-protein-coupled TP receptors and the kinases signalling pathway in TP downstream proteins, while SOC channels did not participate in the vasoconstriction.

Effect of BTP2 on agonist-induced vasoconstriction in the mouse aorta in vitro

BTP2 is a potent inhibitor of store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE), which plays a vital role in vasoconstriction. However, the direct effect of BTP2 on the contractile response remains unclear. Here, we investigated the effects and mechanisms of action of BTP2 in the mouse aorta. Isometric tension was measured using a Multi Myograph System with two stainless steel wires. Ca2+ transient was recorded by confocal laser scanning microscope. The results showed that BTP2 markedly suppressed vasoconstriction mediated by SOCE and Ca2+ influx mediated by SOCE. The cumulative concentration of BTP2 had no effect on the baseline of mouse aortic rings, whereas it increased vasoconstriction stimulated by 3 μmol/L Phenylephrine. BTP2 (1 μmol/L) significantly increased vasoconstriction induced by 3 μmol/L Phe or cumulative concentration. BTP2 also promoted noradrenaline-induced aortic contraction. However, Phe- and noradrenaline-induced contraction was not affected by 0.3 or 3 μmol/L BTP2, and BTP2 at 10 μmol/L significantly suppressed aortic contraction. BTP2 inhibited 5-HT-evoked contraction in a concentration-dependent manner. BTP2 at higher concentrations (>3 μmol/L) inhibited CaCl2 -induced and 60 mmol/L K+ -induced contraction with progressive reduction of maximal contraction in a concentration-dependent manner. These results suggest that 1 μmol/L BTP2 increases contraction evoked by α1 adrenoreceptor activation. BTP2 at higher concentrations may inhibit Cav1.2 channels.

Mechanism of thromboxane receptor-induced vasoconstriction in human saphenous vein

Saphenous vein (SV) is one of the most widely used graft material in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). Thromboxane A2 (TXA2) is implicated in graft failure by inducing vasoconstriction and platelet aggregation. The aim of this study is to investigate the mechanism involved in TXA2-induced vasoconstriction in human SV. The role of different inhibitors and blockers on U46619 (TXA2-mimetic)-induced vasoconstriction is investigated by using an isolated organ bath system. Relaxation responses to several mediators are evaluated in SV pre-contracted with U46619 and compared with those pre-contracted with phenylephrine. Our results demonstrate that U46619-induced contraction is completely blocked by myosin light chain kinase inhibitor ML-9 or TP receptor antagonist BAY u3405. Furthermore, U46619-induced contraction is partially inhibited by phospholipase C inhibitor U73122, protein kinase C inhibitor calphostin C, Rho-kinase inhibitor Y-27632, L-type calcium channel blocker nifedipine, store-operated channel inhibitor SKF96365 or removal of extracellular calcium. Relaxation responses to NO donor (sodium nitroprusside), guanylate cyclase (GC) stimulator (riociguat), phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors (sildenafil, IBMX), adenylate cyclase (AC) activator (forskolin) and acetylcholine (ACh) are markedly reduced when U46619 is used as a pre-contraction agent. Our results demonstrate that influx of extracellular Ca2+ (through L-type calcium channels and store-operated calcium channels) and intracellular Ca2+ release together with Ca2+ sensitization (through Rho-kinase activation) are necessary components for TXA2-induced vasoconstriction in SV. Moreover, more pronounced decrease in vasorelaxation induced by several mediators (SNP, riociguat, sildenafil, IBMX, forskolin, and ACh) in the presence of U46619 when compared with phenylephrine suggests that there is a crosstalk between the TP receptor signaling pathway and PDE, AC, GC enzymes. We believe that the investigation of mechanism of the TXA2-induced vasoconstriction in SV will provide additional information for the prevention of SV graft failure.

Reduced store-operated Ca2+ entry impairs mesenteric artery function in response to high external glucose in type 2 diabetic ZDF rats

Diabetes is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, affecting both endothelial and smooth muscle cells. Store-operated Ca2+ channels (SOCCs) have been implicated in many diabetic complications. Vascular dysfunction is common in patients with diabetes, but the role of SOCCs in diabetic vasculopathy is still unclear. Our research aimed to investigate the effects of high glucose (HG) on store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE) in small arteries. Small mesenteric arteries from type 2 diabetic Zucker fatty rats (ZDF) versus their non-diabetic controls (Zucker lean, ZL) were examined in a pressurized myograph. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) were isolated and intracellular Ca2+ was measured (Fura 2-AM). A specific protocol to deplete intracellular Ca2+ stores and thereby open SOCCs, as well as pharmacological SOCE inhibitors (SKF-96365, BTP-2), were used to artificially activate and inhibit SOCE, respectively. High glucose (40 mmol/L) relaxed arteries in a SKF-sensitive manner. Diabetic arteries exhibited reduced HG-induced relaxation, as well as reduced contraction after Ca2+ replenishment. Further, the rise in intracellular Ca2+ on account of SOCE is diminished in diabetic versus non-diabetic VSMCs and was insensitive to HG in diabetic VSMCs. The expression of SOCC proteins was measured, detecting a downregulation of Orai1 in diabetes. In conclusion, diabetes leads to a reduction of SOCE and SOCE-induced contraction, which is unresponsive to HG-mediated inhibition. The reduced expression of Orai1 in diabetic arteries could account for the observed reduction in SOCE.

Abnormal Ca2+ handling contributes to the impairment of aortic smooth muscle contractility in Zucker diabetic fatty rats

Vascular dysfunction is a common pathological basis for complications in individuals affected by diabetes. Previous studies have established that endothelial dysfunction is the primary contributor to vascular complications in type 2 diabetes (T2DM). However, the role of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in vascular complications associated with T2DM is still not completely understood. The aim of this study is to explore the potential mechanisms associated with Ca²⁺ handling dysfunction and how this dysfunction contributes to diabetic vascular smooth muscle impairment. The results indicated that endothelium-dependent vasodilation was impaired in diabetic aortae, but endothelium-independent vasodilation was not altered. Various vasoconstrictors such as phenylephrine, U46619 and 5-HT could induce vasoconstriction in a concentration-dependent manner, such that the dose-response curve was parallel shifted to the right in diabetic aortae, compared to the control. Vasoconstrictions mediated by L-type calcium (Cav1.2) channels were attenuated in diabetic aortae, but effects mediated by store-operated calcium (SOC) channels were enhanced. Intracellular Ca²⁺ concentration ([Ca²⁺]_i) in VSMCs was detected by Fluo-4 calcium fluorescent probes, and demonstrated that SOC-mediated Ca²⁺ entry was increased in diabetic VSMCs. VSMC-specific knockout of STIM1 genes decreased SOC-mediated and phenylephrine-induced vasoconstrictive response in mice aortae. Additionally, Orai1 expression was up-regulated, Cav1.2 expression was downregulated, and the phenotypic transformation of diabetic VSMCs was determined in diabetic aortae. The overexpression of Orai1 markedly promoted the OPN expression of VSMCs, whereas SKF96365 (SOC channel blocker) reversed the phenotypic transformation of diabetic VSMCs. Our results demonstrated that the vasoconstriction response of aortic smooth muscle was weakened in type 2 diabetic rats, which was related to the downregulation of the Cav1.2 channel and the up-regulation of the SOC channel signaling pathway.

Mechanisms of U46619-induced contraction in mouse intrarenal artery

Thromboxane A₂ (TXA₂ ) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of vascular complications, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The contraction of renal arterial rings in mice was measured by a Multi Myograph System. The intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca²⁺ ]_i ) in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) was obtained by using a fluo-4/AM dye and a confocal laser scanning microscopy. The results show that the U46619-induced vasoconstriction of renal artery was completely blocked by a TXA₂ receptor antagonist GR32191, significantly inhibited by a selective phospholipase C (PI-PLC) inhibitor U73122 at 10 μmol/L and partially inhibited by a Phosphatidylcholine - specific phospholipase C (PC-PLC) inhibitor D609 at 50 μmol/L. Moreover, the U46619-induced vasoconstriction was inhibited by a general protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor chelerythrine at 10 μmol/L, and a selective PKCδ inhibitor rottlerin at 10 μmol/L. In addition, the PKC-induced vasoconstriction was partially inhibited by a Rho-kinase inhibitor Y-27632 at 10 μmol/L and was further completely inhibited together with a putative IP₃ receptor antagonist and store-operated Ca²⁺ (SOC) entry inhibitor 2-APB at 100 μmol/L. On the other hand, U46619-induced vasoconstriction was partially inhibited by L-type calcium channel (Cav1.2) inhibitor nifedipine at 1 μmol/L and 2-APB at 50 and 100 μmol/L. Last, U46619-induced vasoconstriction was partially inhibited by a cell membrane Ca²⁺ activated C1^- channel blocker 5-Nitro-2-(3-phenylpropylamino) benzoic acid (NPPB) at 50 and 100 μmol/L. Our results suggest that the U46619-induced contraction of mouse intrarenal arteries is mediated by Cav1.2 and SOC channel, through the activation of thromboxane-prostanoid receptors and its downstream signaling pathway.

Augmented contractility of murine femoral arteries in a streptozotocin diabetes model is related to increased phosphorylation of MYPT1

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder with high prevalence, and a major risk factor for macro- and microvascular abnormalities. This study was undertaken to explore the mechanisms of hypercontractility of murine femoral arteries (FA) obtained from mice with streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes and its relation to the phosphorylation profile of the myosin phosphatase target subunit 1, MYPT1. The immunoreactivity of MYPT1 toward phospho-MYPT1-T696, MYPT1-T853, or MYPT1-S695, used as a read out for MYPT1 phosphorylation, has been studied by Western Blotting. Contractile activity of FA from control and STZ mice has been studied by wire myography. At basal conditions (no treatment), the immunoreactivity of MYPT1-T696/T853 was ~2-fold higher in the STZ arteries compared with controls. No changes in MYPT1-T696/853 phosphorylation were observed after stimulation with the Thromboxan-A2 analog, U46619. Neither basal nor U46619-stimulated phosphorylation of MYPT1 at S695 was affected by STZ treatment. Mechanical distensibility and basal tone of FA obtained from STZ animals were similar to controls. Maximal force after treatment of FA with the contractile agonists phenylephrine (10 μmol/L) or U46619 (1 μmol/L) was augmented in the arteries of STZ mice by ~2- and ~1.5-fold, respectively. In summary, our study suggests that development of a hypercontractile phenotype in murine FA in STZ diabetes is at least partially related to an increase in phosphorylation of MLCP at MYPT1-T696/853. Interestingly, the phosphorylation at S695 site was not altered in STZ-induced diabetes, supporting the view that S695 may serve as a sensor for mechanical activity which is not directly involved in tone regulation.

Relationship between Dietary n-6 Fatty Acid Intake and Hypertension: Effect of Glycated Hemoglobin Levels

The relationship between dietary n-6 fatty acids and hypertension is not clear. The metabolic products of n-6 fatty acids include those that control blood pressure, such as prostaglandin and thromboxane, and that differ depending on the extent of glucose tolerance. This cross-sectional study investigated the association of dietary n-6 fatty acid intake on hypertension, and the effects of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) value in 633 Japanese subjects aged 40 years and older. Dietary intake was measured using a validated brief self-administered diet history questionnaire. We defined hypertension as the use of antihypertensive medication or a blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg. The prevalence of hypertension was 55.3%. A high n-6 fatty acids intake inversely correlated with hypertension in subjects with HbA1c values less than 6.5% (odds ratio, 0.857; 95% confidence interval, 0.744 to 0.987). On the contrary, in subjects with an HbA1c value of 6.5% or higher, the n-6 fatty acids intake was significantly associated with hypertension (odds ratio, 3.618; 95% confidence interval, 1.019 to 12.84). Regular dietary n-6 fatty acid intake may contribute to the prevention and treatment of hypertension in a healthy general population. By contrast, in subjects with diabetes, regular n-6 fatty acids intake may increase the risk of hypertension.

Purinergic receptor stimulation induces calcium oscillations and smooth muscle contraction in small pulmonary veins

KEY POINTS

We investigated the excitation-contraction coupling mechanisms in small pulmonary veins (SPVs) in rat precision-cut lung slices. We found that SPVs contract strongly and reversibly in response to extracellular ATP and other vasoconstrictors, including angiotensin-II and endothelin-1. ATP-induced vasoconstriction in SPVs was associated with the stimulation of purinergic P2Y2 receptors in vascular smooth muscle cell, activation of phospholipase C-β and the generation of intracellular Ca²⁺ oscillations mediated by cyclic Ca²⁺ release events via the inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor. Active constriction of SPVs may play an important role in the development of pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary oedema.

ABSTRACT

The small pulmonary veins (SPVs) may play a role in the development of pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary oedema via active changes in SPV diameter, mediated by vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) contraction. However, the excitation-contraction coupling mechanisms during vasoconstrictor stimulation remain poorly understood in these veins. We used rat precision-cut lung slices and phase-contrast and confocal microscopy to investigate dynamic changes in SPV cross-sectional luminal area and intracellular Ca²⁺ signalling in their VSMCs. We found that the SPV (∼150 μm in diameter) contract strongly in response to extracellular ATP and other vasoconstrictors, including angiotensin-II and endothelin-1. ATP-induced SPV contraction was fast, concentration-dependent, completely reversible upon ATP washout, and inhibited by purinergic receptor antagonists suramin and AR-C118925 but not by MRS2179. Immunofluorescence showed purinergic P2Y2 receptors expressed in SPV VSMCs. ATP-induced SPV contraction was inhibited by phospholipase Cβ inhibitor U73122 and accompanied by intracellular Ca²⁺ oscillations in the VSMCs. These Ca²⁺ oscillations and SPV contraction were inhibited by the inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor inhibitor 2-APB but not by ryanodine. The results of the present study suggest that ATP-induced vasoconstriction in SPVs is associated with the activation of purinergic P2Y2 receptors in VSMCs and the generation of Ca²⁺ oscillations.

Role of thromboxane A2 signaling in endothelium-dependent contractions of arteries

Thromboxane A₂ (TxA₂) plays a very important role in various cardiovascular diseases through its action on platelet aggregation, vasoconstriction, and proliferation. The present article focuses on the role of TxA₂ signaling in endothelium-dependent contractions of arteries. Arachidonic acid (AA) is metabolized by cyclooxygenase (COX) to form the unstable prostaglandin H₂ which is further converted into TxA₂. After being produced by thromboxane synthase (TxAS), TxA₂ ultimately stimulates TxA₂/prostanoid (TP) receptor to induce vasoconstriction. The calcium ionophore A23187, the prostanoid precursor AA, or the muscarinic receptor agonist acetylcholine (ACh) can evoke endothelium-dependent contractions associated with TxA₂. The endothelium-dependent contractions shown in hypertension, diabetes, atherogenesis, and other cardiovascular diseases have been significantly reduced by antagonism of COX, TxAS, or TP receptor. So inhibition of the bioavailability and/or effect of TxA₂ may be promising therapeutic targets to prevent these diseases. Especially some bioactive compounds isolated from medicinal plants will provide new pharmacological approaches to promote vascular health.
