Abstract
Glyphosate (GLY) is the main ingredient in the weed killer Roundup and the most widely used pesticide in the world. Studies of the harmful effects of GLY on human health began to become more wide-ranging after 2015. GLY is listed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as a carcinogenic hazard to humans. Moreover, GLY has the property to complex with transition metals and are stable for long periods, being considered a high-risk element for different matrices, such as environmental (soil and water) and food (usually genetically modified crops). Since that, it was noticed an increment in the development of new analytical methods for its determination in different matrices like food, environmental and biological fluids. Noteworthy, the application of electrochemical techniques for downstream detection sparked interest due to the ability to minimize or eliminate the use of polluting chemicals, using simple and affordable equipment. This work aims to review the contribution of the electroanalytical methods for the determination of GLY in different food and environmental matrices. Parameters such as the electrochemical transduction techniques based on the electrical measurement signals, receptor materials for electrodes preparation, and the detection mechanisms are described in this review. The literature review shows that the electrochemical sensors are powerful detection system that can be improved by their design and by their portability to fulfil the needs of the GLY determination in laboratory benches, or even in situ analysis.

Abstract
Tramadol (TRA) is a weak opioid analgesic, prescribed to relieve mild to moderately severe pain. However, side effects of TRA overdoses, including vomiting, depression, tachycardia, convulsions, morbidity and mortality are often reported. In this study, an electrochemical sensor based on molecularly imprinted conductive polymer was firstly developed for the quantitative and non-invasive detection of TRA. Secondly, a voltammetric electronic tongue (VE-Tongue) combined with chemometric methods was used for the qualitative analysis. The MIP sensor was constructed by self-assembling a poly-aniline layer coated with silver nanoparticles (PANI-AgNPs) on a screen-printed gold electrode (Au-SPE). Then, 2-amino-thiophenol was polymerised in the presence of TRA. The electronic device exhibits, under optimal conditions, responses proportional to TRA concentrations (0.01-100 µg/mL) with detection and quantification limits of 9.42 µg/mL and 28.55 µg/mL, respectively. Moreover, its selectivity was proven by insignificant interferences of substances (paracetamol and citric acid). Spiked saliva and urine samples were used for the sensor practical application with a significant recovery above 90% and standard deviations below 4.5%. Besides, urine samples' analyses using VE-Tongue and pattern recognition methods show good discrimination, classification, and prediction results with scores above 95%. Correspondingly, both electro-analytical devices could be viable for monitoring drugs in biological matrices.

Abstract
An electrochemical sensor for adefovir dipivoxil (ADV) detection was prepared by electropolymerization of o-phenylenediamine in the presence of ADV on a glassy carbon electrode modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes and carbon nitride. The electrode was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy and differential pulse voltammetry. The performance was optimized by response surface methodology. The changes in differential pulse voltammetric peak currents of the redox probe, ferricyanide, were linear to ADV concentrations in the range from 0.1 to 9.9 μmol L-1, with the detection limit of 0.05 μmol L-1 (S/N = 3). The sensor was applied to the determination of ADV in drug formulations, human serum and urine samples. It is selective due to the use of an imprinted material, well reproducible, long-term stable, and regenerable. Graphical abstract By merging the unique properties of carbon nitride with intrinsic properties of MWCNTs, and molecularly imprinted polymers, a novel electrochemical sensor with selective binding sites was prepared for determination of adefovir dipivoxil in pharmaceutical and biological samples.

Abstract
The accurate detection of biological materials has remained at the forefront of scientific research for decades. This includes the detection of molecules, proteins, and bacteria. Biomimetic sensors look to replicate the sensitive and selective mechanisms that are found in biological systems and incorporate these properties into functional sensing platforms. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are synthetic receptors that can form high affinity binding sites complementary to the specific analyte of interest. They utilise the shape, size, and functionality to produce sensitive and selective recognition of target analytes. One route of synthesizing MIPs is through electropolymerization, utilising predominantly constant potential methods or cyclic voltammetry. This methodology allows for the formation of a polymer directly onto the surface of a transducer. The thickness, morphology, and topography of the films can be manipulated specifically for each template. Recently, numerous reviews have been published in the production and sensing applications of MIPs; however, there are few reports on the use of electrosynthesized MIPs (eMIPs). The number of publications and citations utilising eMIPs is increasing each year, with a review produced on the topic in 2012. This review will primarily focus on advancements from 2012 in the use of eMIPs in sensing platforms for the detection of biologically relevant materials, including the development of increased polymer layer dimensions for whole bacteria detection and the use of mixed monomer compositions to increase selectivity toward analytes.

Abstract
Molecular imprinting technology (MIT) offers an effective technique for efficient separation and enrichment of specific analytes from complicated matrices and has been used for illicit veterinary drug detectionin recent years due to its high selectivity, good chemical stability, and simple preparation. The development of in silico-based approaches has enabled the simulation of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) to facilitate the selection of imprinting conditions such as template, functional monomer, and the best suitable solvent. In this work, using density functional theory (DFT), the molecularly imprinted polymers of clenbuterol and its metabolites were designed by computer-aided at B3LYP/6-31 + G (d, p) level. Screening molecular imprinting components such as functional monomers, cross-linkers, and solvents has been achieved in the computational simulation considerations. The simulation results showed that methacrylic acid (MAA) is the best functional monomer; the optimal imprinting ratio for both clenbuterol (CLB) and its dummy template molecule of phenylephrine (PE) to functional monomer is 1:3, while the optimal imprinting ratio for the two dummy template molecules of CLB's metabolites is 1:5. Choosin gethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (EDGMA) as a crosslinker and aprotic solvents could increase the selectivity of the molecularly imprinted system. Atoms in Molecules (AIM) topology analysis was applied to investigate the template-monomer complexes bonding situation and helped to explain the nature of the reaction in the imprinting process. These theoretical predictions were also verified by the experimental results and found to be in good agreement with the computational results. The computer-simulated imprinting process compensates for the lack of clarity in the mechanism of the molecular imprinting process, and provides an important reference and direction for developing better recognition pattern towards CLB and its metabolite analytes in swine urine samples at the same time.

Abstract
We report a unique nanosensing platform by combining modern nanotechnology with traditional acupuncture needle to prepare graphene-modified acupuncture needle (G-AN), and using it for sensitive detection of neurotransmitters via electrochemistry. An electrochemical deposition method was employed to deposit Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) on the tip surface of the traditional acupuncture needle, while the other part of the needle was coated with insulation paste. Subsequently, the G-AN was obtained by cyclic voltammetry reduction of a graphene oxide solution on the surface of the AuNPs. To investigate the sensing property of the G-AN, pH dependence was measured by recording the open circuit potential in the various pH buffer solutions ranging from 2.0 to 10.0. What’s more, the G-AN was further used for detection of dopamine (DA) with a limit of detection of 0.24 μM. This novel G-AN exhibited a good sensitivity and selectivity, and could realize direct detection of DA in human serum.

Abstract
A target-induced structure-switching electrochemical aptasensor for sensitive detection of ATP was successfully constructed which was based on exonuclease III-catalyzed target recycling for signal amplification. With the existence of ATP, methylene blue (MB) labeled hairpin DNA formed G-quadruplex with ATP, which led to conformational changes of the hairpin DNA and created catalytic cleavage sites for exonuclease III (Exo III). Then the structure-switching DNA hybridized with capture DNA which made MB close to electrode surface. Meanwhile, Exo III selectively digested aptamer from its 3'-end, thus G-quadruplex structure was destroyed and ATP was released for target recycling. The Exo III-assisted target recycling amplified electrochemical signal significantly. Fluorescence experiment was performed to confirm the structure-switching process of the hairpin DNA. In fluorescence experiment, AuNPs-aptamer conjugates were synthesized, AuNPs quenched fluorescence of MB, the target-induced structure-switching made Exo III digested aptamer, which restored fluorescence. Under optimized conditions, the proposed aptasensor showed a linear range of 0.1-20 nM with a detection limit of 34 pM. In addition, the proposed aptasensor had good stability and selectivity, offered promising choice for the detection of other small molecules.

Abstract
In this work, a dual-signaling electrochemical aptasensor based on exonuclease-catalyzed target recycling was developed for thrombin detection. The proposed aptasensor coupled "signal-on" and "signal-off" strategies. As to the construction of the aptasensor, ferrocene (Fc) labeled thrombin binding aptamer (TBA) could perfectly hybridize with the methylene blue (MB) modified thiolated capture DNA to form double-stranded structure, hence emerged two different electrochemical signals. In the presence of thrombin, TBA could form a G-quadruplex structure with thrombin, leading to the dissociation of TBA from the duplex DNA and capture DNA formed hairpin structure. Exonuclease could selectively digest single-stranded TBA in G-quadruplex structure and released thrombin to realize target recycling. As a consequence, the electrochemical signal of MB enhanced significantly, which realized "signal on" strategy, meanwhile, the deoxidization peak current of Fc decreased distinctly, which realized "signal off" strategy. The employment of exonuclease and superposition of two signals significantly improved the sensitivity of the aptasensor. In this way, an aptasensor with high sensitivity, good stability and selectivity for quantitative detection of thrombin was constructed, which exhibited a good linear range from 5 pM to 50 nM with a detection limit of 0.9 pM (defined as S/N=3). In addition, this design strategy could be applied to the detection of other proteins and small molecules.

Abstract
To develop a rapid and simple method for sensitive determination of artemisinin (ART) in complicated matrices, a novel electrochemical sensor was constructed by in-situ polymerization of ART-imprinted membranes (ART-MIMs) on the surface of graphene (G) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) using acrylamide (AM) as functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as cross-linking agent after the experimental parameters for the preparation of ART-MIMs such as functional monomer, molar ratio of template, monomer and cross-linking agent together with extraction condition were optimized. Under the optimal conditions, the sensor named as ART-MIM/G/GCE exhibited a good selectivity, high sensitivity and considerably better resistance against some analogs of artemisinin such as dihydroartemisinin (DHA), artemether (ARM) and artesunate (ARTS). The calibration graph for the determination of artemisinin by the sensor was linear in the range of 1.0 × 10(-8)mol L(-1) to 4.0 × 10(-5)mol L(-1) with the detection limit of 2.0 × 10(-9)mol L(-1). Meanwhile, this sensor possessed of good regeneration, stability and practicability. It could retain more than 94% of its original response after used at least 80 times or stored in water at room temperature for 60 days. The obtained sensor was successfully applied to determine the contents of artemisinin in the extract of Artemisia annua L. with the relative standard deviation (RSD) of less than 3.5% (n=5).

Abstract
A novel label-free electrochemical aptasensor based on graphene-polyaniline (GR-PANI) nanocomposites film for dopamine (DA) determination was reported. The resulting GR-PANI layer exhibited good current response for DA determination. The good electron transfer activity might be attributed to the effect of GR and PANI. The highly conductive and biocompatible nanostructure of GR-PANI nanocomposites was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). To quantify the amount of DA, the peaks of square-wave voltammetry (SWV) were monitored using the redox couple of an [Fe(CN)(6)](4-/3-) probe. The electrochemical aptasensor showed a linear response to DA in the range 0.007-90 nmol/L and a limit of detection of 0.00198 nmol/L (S/N=3). The electrochemical aptasensor was successfully tested on human serum samples.

Abstract
This critical review describes a class of polymers prepared by electrochemical polymerization that employs the concept of molecular imprinting for chemical sensing. The principal focus is on both conducting and nonconducting polymers prepared by electropolymerization of electroactive functional monomers, such as pristine and derivatized pyrrole, aminophenylboronic acid, thiophene, porphyrin, aniline, phenylenediamine, phenol, and thiophenol. A critical evaluation of the literature on electrosynthesized molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) applied as recognition elements of chemical sensors is presented. The aim of this review is to highlight recent achievements in analytical applications of these MIPs, including present strategies of determination of different analytes as well as identification and solutions for problems encountered.

Abstract
An imprinted electrochemical sensor based on polypyrrole-sulfonated graphene (PPy-SG)/hyaluronic acid-multiwalled carbon nanotubes (HA-MWCNTs) for sensitive detection of tryptamine was presented. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were synthesized by electropolymerization using tryptamine as the template, and para-aminobenzoic acid (pABA) as the monomer. The surface feature of the modified electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV). The proposed sensor was tested by chronoamperometry. Several important parameters controlling the performance of the molecularly imprinted sensor were investigated and optimized. The results showed that the PPy-SG composites films showed improved conductivity and electrochemical performances. HA-MWCNTs bionanocomposites could enhance the current response evidently. The good selectivity of the sensor allowed three discriminations of tryptamine from interferents, which include tyramine, dopamine and tryptophan. Under the optimal conditions, a linear ranging from 9.0×10(-8) mol L(-1) to 7.0×10(-5) mol L(-1) for the detection of tryptamine was observed with the detection limit of 7.4×10(-8) mol L(-1) (S/N=3). This imprinted electrochemical sensor was successfully employed to detect tryptamine in real samples.

Abstract
A new method was optimized for rapid screening of 17β-estradiol (E2) in water under 10 min. Molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) particles (325 ± 25 nm) were added in a water sample at pH 5.5 and 20°C to form a suspension. Fluorescence emission from E2 nonspecifically bound onto the MIP particles was first quenched by large gold nanoparticles (43 ± 5 nm). The Stern-Volmer plot was linear, with dynamic quenching constants (Ksv) of 2.9 ×104 M−1. Fluorescence emission from E2 specifically bound inside the MIP particles was next quenched by small nitrite anions that easily penetrated the imprinted cavities. The Stern-Volmer plot became nonlinear, with Ksv = 2.1 × 102 M−1 and static quenching constant (V) below 1.0 M−1. The difference between these two emission intensities varied as the initial E2 concentration in water, generating a Scatchard calibration curve with R2 > 0.97 from 0.1 to 10 ppb.

Abstract
Herein, a novel imprinted sol-gel electrochemical sensor based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) doped with chitosan film on a carbon electrode has been developed. Prior to doped, the MWNTs have been decorated with Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles which have been coated uniformly with SiO(2) layer. The characterization of imprinted sensor has been carried out by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The performance of the proposed imprinted sensor has been investigated using cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry. The imprinted sensor offers a fast response and sensitive benzylpenicillin quantification. The fabricated benzylpenicillin imprinted sensor exhibits a linear response from 5.0×10(-8) to 1.0×10(-3) mol L(-1) with a detection limit of 1.5×10(-9) mol L(-1). For samples analysis, perfect recoveries of the imprinted sensor for benzylpenicillin indicated that the imprinted sensor was able to detect benzylpenicillin in real samples successfully.
