Abstract
To investigate the effect of oil additives on improving the water resistance of corn starch straws, corn oil (CO), soybean oil (SO), rapeseed oil (RO), peanut oil (PO), lard (LD) and coconut oil (CCO) were chosen and compared the structure and properties of starch straws with different oil additives. Corn starch straws (CS), and starch straws supplemented with CO, SO, RO, PO, LD and CCO were prepared by thermoplastic extrusion. The results showed that the incorporation of oils effectively enhanced the water resistance of starch straws such as water absorption, water solubility and water swelling performance. Meanwhile, the flexural strength of starch straws significantly increased. There was no significant linear relationship among starch chain length, oil unsaturation and straw performance. Among seven starch straws, S-SO had the strongest hydrogen bond interaction (3289 cm-1) and relaxation time (0.96 ms). The S-CO had the highest relative crystallinity (16.82 %) and degree of double helix (1.535), hence resulting in the lowest water absorption and solubility values, the highest flexural strength (23.43 MPa), the highest ΔT value (9.93 °C) and ΔH value (4.79 J/g). S-RO had the highest thermal transition temperatures.

Abstract
Traditionally, waterborne polyurethanes (WPUs) are prepared using toxic organic solvents and catalysts. These WPUs are non-biodegradable and are buried or incinerated after the expiration date. This has adverse effects on the environment and human health, which limits the applications of WPUs. Herein, a special synthetic method was developed for biodegradable waterborne polyurethane (BWPU) by adding hydrophilic prepolymers into WPU prepolymers without using organic solvents and catalysts. Different proportions of polyethylene glycol (PEG) were introduced into polycaprolactone (PCL)-based BWPUs to improve the comprehensive properties. Results showed that as the PEG content was increased from 0 to 16 wt%, the solid content of BWPU increased from 34.8 wt% to 53.1 wt%, while the tensile strength and Young's modulus of BWPU films increased from 21.81 MPa to 56.83 MPa and 8.08 MPa to 19.4 MPa, respectively. However, the elongation at break did not decrease significantly, but still reached 827.17%. With an increase in PEG content, the crystallinity and phase separation decreased, while the hydrophilicity and surface energy increased for BWPU films. In addition, the prepared BWPUs had good biodegradability in PBS/lipase solution. The mass loss of BWPU without PEG reached 6.3 wt% after 4 weeks of degradation, whereas the mass losses of BWPUs with PEG reached 2.3-4.3 wt%. Obviously, the introduction of PEG did not increase biodegradability. Thus, the higher the PCL content, the faster the biodegradation rate. This work would provide an effective method for the preparation of ecofriendly biodegradable BWPU with excellent comprehensive properties.

Abstract
Because of its unique molecular structure and renewable properties, vegetable oil has gradually become the focus of researchers. In this work, castor oil was first transformed into a castor oil-based triacrylate structure (MACOG) using two steps of chemical modification, then it was prepared into castor oil-based waterborne polyurethane acrylate emulsion, and finally, a series of coating materials were prepared under UV curing. The results showed that with the increase in MACOG content, the glass transition temperature of the sample was increased from 20.3 °C to 46.6 °C, and the water contact angle of its surface was increased from 73.85 °C to 90.57 °C. In addition, the thermal decomposition temperature, mechanical strength, and water resistance of the samples were also greatly improved. This study not only provides a new idea for the preparation of waterborne polyurethane coatings with excellent comprehensive properties but also expands the application of biomass material castor oil in the field of coating.

Abstract
The increasing number of petroleum-based plastics has caused severe environmental pollution, which has attracted great research interest in the development of low-cost, renewable, and degradable starch-based bioplastics. However, developing starch-based bioplastics with robust mechanical strength, excellent water resistance, and thermal resistance remains a great challenge. In this study, we presented a simple and efficient method for preparing high-performance novel starch-based bioplastics with chemical and physical double crosslinking network structures filled with 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxy-oxidized cellulose nanofibers and zinc oxide nanoparticles. Compared with pure starch-based bioplastics, the tensile strength of the novel robust strength starch-based bioplastics increased by 431.2 %. The novel starch-based bioplastics exhibited excellent mechanical properties (tensile strength up to 24.54 MPa), water resistance, thermal resistance, and biodegradability. In addition, the novel starch-based bioplastics could be reused, crushed, dissolved, and re-poured after use. After recycling, the novel starch-based bioplastics could be discarded in the soil to achieve complete degradation within six weeks. Owing to these characteristics, the novel starch-based bioplastics are good alternatives used to replace traditional petroleum-based plastics and have great development prospects.

Abstract
A high-performance biodegradable plastic was made from a chitin KOH/urea solution. The solution was transferred into a hydrogel by cross-linking using epichlorohydrin and ethanol immersion, and a chitin bioplastic was finally prepared by drying in a mold at 40 °C. The solution concentration positively impacts viscosity, crystallinity, and smoothness. A 4% chitin bioplastic exhibits high barrier properties, flame retardancy, high-temperature resistance, mechanical properties (tensile strength up to 107.1 MPa), and soil degradation properties. The chitin bioplastic can be completely degraded by microorganisms in 7 weeks. In addition, biosafety tests suggest that chitin is safe for cells and crops (wheat and mung beans). The chitin bioplastic was further applied to containers, straws, cups, and photoprotection, and it was found that the water resistance and transparency were comparable to those of commercial polypropylene plastics. Due to the excellent performance, safety, and sustainability of the chitin bioplastic, it is expected to become a good substitute for conventional fossil fuel-based plastics.

Abstract
At present, the consumption of polyurethane is huge in various industries. As a result, it has become a research hotspot to use environmentally friendly and renewable bio-based raw materials (instead of petroleum-based raw materials) to prepare polyurethane. In this paper, epoxy soybean oil (ESO) was used as raw material, and polyethylene glycol (PEG-600) was used for ring opening. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) analysis proved that soybean oil-based polyester polyols was prepared. Soybean oil-based polyurethane (SPU) was synthesized by the reaction of the soybean oil-based polyol with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), so as to save energy and protect the environment. The properties of SPU films were adjusted by changing the R value (the molar ration of -NCO/-OH) and the film forming temperature. The chemical structure and properties of the SPU were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results show that the mechanical strength, water contact angle, microphase separation degree, barrier property, and thermal stability of SPU films gradually increase, while the transparency, oxygen permeability coefficient and moisture permeability coefficient of SPU films gradually decrease with the increase of R value and film forming temperature.

Abstract
Biodegradable and antimicrobial waterborne polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) and their casted solid films have recently emerged as important alternatives to their solvent-based and non-biodegradable counterparts for various applications due to their versatility, health, and environmental friendliness. The nanoscale morphology of the PUDs, dispersion stability, and the thermomechanical properties of the solid films obtained from the solvent cast process are strongly dependent on several important parameters, such as the preparation method, polyols, diisocyanates, solid content, chain extension, and temperature. The biodegradability, biocompatibility, antimicrobial properties and biomedical applications can be tailored based on the nature of the polyols, polarity, as well as structure and concentration of the internal surfactants (anionic or cationic). This review article provides an important quantitative experimental basis and structure evolution for the development and synthesis of biodegradable waterborne PUDs and their solid films, with prescribed macromolecular properties and new functions, with the aim of understanding the relationships between polymer structure, properties, and performance. The review article will also summarize the important variables that control the thermomechanical properties and biodegradation kinetics, as well as antimicrobial and biocompatibility behaviors of aqueous PUDs and their films, for certain industrial and biomedical applications.
